"I can't believe he used to annoy me," said Miles, watching as Julian chattered animatedly with Nerys and Keiko across the room. "Now it's just nice to see him like this again. It's quite the change, isn't it - but then, I guess you've got used to it by now?" He turned to Ezri, smiling. "Clearly, eight months with you have been good for him."

It took a few moment for Ezri to respond, and Miles had no idea what her expression meant. He'd never known her particularly well, and since returning to Earth they'd only exchanged a few words over subspace if she'd walked in on one of his conversations with Julian.

"I don't think I've ever seen him like this," she said eventually.

Well that was unbelievable. Julian was resonating with the sort of energy he always did when he was in love, so Ezri had to be doing something right.

"What do you mean?" he asked, brow furrowing.

"He's so bouncy. And talkative. Usually he's more - I don't know - restrained, I guess? It's suddenly like..." She paused, thinking. "Well, like he's back planning your Alamo battles with you, but more, and for everything - even in the staff meeting earlier! He's been smiling the whole day."

Miles' frown deepened. "That's just Julian being Julian," he said. "I know the war took a lot out of him - it took a lot out of all of us - but..." He trailed off. "I just assumed he'd managed to get back to normal. You've really never seen him like this?"

Ezri shook her head, then stopped herself, wincing a little. "I know Jadzia did?" she said cautiously. "But her relationship with Julian was so different, she always saw him as so much younger than her. And honestly, I try not to pry into her memories of him too much. It doesn't seem fair."

"How would you describe him, then?" Miles asked curiously. "What's usual for you?"

She smiled. "Kind, sweet, gentle. A little awkward, sometimes. Not as much as me, though," she added with a soft chuckle.

"He makes me laugh," she continued, "but I wouldn't call him 'funny'. He's usually quite a quiet, serious person - or not quiet, perhaps, just... reserved? If we're alone, we'll talk for hours, but at gatherings like this, he'll try, but ends up getting kind of distant. That's why it's felt so odd the past two days. He seems almost... manic?"

"Probably just the suprise of seeing us," Miles replied, a little unsettled. Humming in unconvinced agreement, Ezri's gaze returned to watch her partner, who was now allowing Molly to drag him over to inspect the tower she'd been building with Jake.

"It's like he's forgotten to be sad," she said suddenly. "Is that what it is? He seems lighter, in a way."

Miles chuckled nervously. "I can't believe our visit is having that much of an effect on him," he replied. "Has work been busier than normal lately? Maybe he just needed a break."

"No, it's definitely more than that," Ezri responded firmly. "I know Julian. He's--"

"Dad, come and look at my tower!" Molly interrupted, dashing over to their sofa. "Julian said it's the best one he's ever seen!"

"Well, if Julian said that, sounds like you don't need my opinion," Miles teased, causing his daughter to roll her eyes.

"But Julian's just a doctor, you're an engineer."

"I suppose I am," Miles replied. "Sorry, Ezri, do you mind if--"

"Not at all," she said easily, waving him off. "I've... got a lot to think about."

here comes the happy couple: an arranged marriage was formed between setteth and the royal human princess. in a world where dhampirs (human/vampire hybrid) are frowned down upon, their families aim to change both of their worlds by forming a political union. they hope to change how dhampirs are viewed the moment they acquire an heir. setteth is more than unhappy at the idea of being tied down to someone he doesn't love. will they be able to fall in love with each other at some point? or will they be nothing more than a political marriage? goodbye my almost lover: the pair were childhood friends, and they come from a noble house who works closely with the valdinias. the years pass and one thing leads to another. around the time sett is 200, they begin a secret relationship. they become an on-and-off couple typically due to having to hide themselves from the public... though at times, sett's possessive and hot-headed nature can be the problem. in sett's eyes, they are his one true love and is currently having a difficult time trying to let go of them. the betrothed: HEAVILY ASSOCIATED WITH PRINCESS CALLA (@vuotriste)! two years have passed since daemon was hired as calla's bodyguard, and in all of this time, it has become clear daemon is in love with calla. news break that the princess is to be wed to another royal elf, this fills daemon with dread. for the first time, he feels a strong hatred toward someone. the pair lead an antagonistic relationship due to their places in calla's heart: for daemon, to not be the one to publicly be by her side and call her his, and for her betrothed, to not have the same level of closeness as daemon does with calla. this is meant to be a heavily antagonistic plot that will come in between daemon and calla's relationship and will also involve 3-way threads. once upon a time: this elf was the first person to leave a mark in daemon's heart. they trained him in the ways of a mercenary and were partners for many years. afraid of daemon's power, they give her an order to kill daemon. she betrays the mercenary's guild by refusing, and the pair are on the run for a few weeks before they are found again. this is when she gives her life for him by giving daemon a route to escape their fate of being killed by other mercenaries sent by the guild. daemon believes her to be dead, but it is quite the opposite. they never had an official relationship, but they had many fleeting kiss moments where they may have realized they had feelings for each other. daemon loved her once, and being able to see her once again is sure to stir confusion within him. this may also potentially involve 3-way threads with @vuotriste. muse: miles dennen, 31 fc: dylan o'brien alt fcs: aron piper (younger verse), woo do-hwan verses: supernatural summary: a somewhat moody werewolf in the process of realizing his alpha nature. originally from upstate ny, fled with remainder of his pack to california after a hunter ambush at the age of 18. lost his mom to child birth and had a very harsh father (the alpha of their pack). recently graduated veterinary school and started working as the other veterinarian at his father's clinic.

you get me so high: miles met this girl shortly after touching down in california. during such a vulnerable time, he found himself falling into bed with her constantly. he's convinced that he likes her at one point, but time passes and he realizes he's mostly physically attracted to her. this causes a rift in their relationship when she decides she wants to become something more serious. they become an on-and-off situationship until he moves for veterinary school. typically, they would fight over her want to be something more, but miles' fear of being hurt never allows him to say yes. she's a bad person for him, and is pretty manipulative and possessive when it comes to him. he cuts off almost all contact with her when he leaves for veterinary school. news spread that he's permanently back, and then they see each other again. will things go back to how they were? or will they be better than before? PLOT: a failing relationship finally comes to a close with the excuse of "long distance," but loren and chloe find themselves in the same study abroad thousands of miles from home. loren thinks maybe they can make it work again, only to see that chloe has already moved on.

"It's my fault— I get it, leave it alone, forget I mentioned it," Loren said, but a scoff cut the end of his words in disbelief. "It doesn't matter, Chloe. I'll move on from it. It would have been nice that after we spoke all night, you could have told me you were fucking him." It was his luck that he'd finally sought out reconciliation to find that she didn't need it all it. He had harbored guilt for cutting things off before, and for what? The notion that he should "set her free" or whatever it was that their friends had mentioned was a lot more true than he anticipated it to be. The part of him that was hesitant of hurting her felt like a fool now. If he had just ripped the band aid off sooner, would he have spared them both grief? Had she been willing to move on a lot longer than he had? "I thought that because we weren't long distance anymore, we could have tried to make it work. Like I said, it doesn't matter. We can just go on like we were suppose to regardless of being in the same program." The plea was weak, distain bitten back but more at himself than her.

odo's underlying loneliness is the focal point

the arc centers around his desire for emotional intimacy, his fear that he will never truly connect with anyone, and his fear of abandonment

it does not center around his friendship with kira specifically, so while several emotional beats do involve kira (she is his oldest friend), not all of them do

other notable focal points include: quark, the great link, garak

there are occasional beats with worf and jadzia as well as miles and keiko (they'd end up seeing more of each other bc of kira, so)

after the great link, linger on odo - there was the connection he's been wanting all along, wasn't it? but he can't allow himself that

add a B plot to an episode - odo wrestling with whether quark considers him a friend and if so how he feels about that

during fascination, lwaxana assumes odo is in love with kira because she is not immune to amatonormativty (she senses his muddle of affection, longing, and vague jealousy & makes Assumptions). her comments leave odo confused

during heart of stone, a muddled confession. it doesn't feel good. he's relieved to discover it's not kira, and that relief helps clarify things for him

during early s4, more focus on odo's developing friendship w worf

during crossfire, the first part of the episode focuses more on odo & worf. odo's not bothered by shakaar until kira skips out on their gossip sesh. then quark accuses him of being in love with her, and odo gets REAL mad. he's still distracted in the elevator, but it's more discomfort than jealousy. doesn't lurk outside kira's date, goes back to work w worf. still is so distracted that worf solves it before he can. worries that worf doesn't respect him, and kira doesn't want to hang out with him. withdraws from them both at the end of the episode. quark too - though he still soundproofs his floor

this withdrawal continues through the following episodes. we see that it hurts kira's feelings, and it bothers quark, and it doesn't make odo feel any better

during the muse, lwaxana realizes odo is not in love with kira and never was. apologizes for the assumption. tells him about aromanticism. offers him some advice. leaves, as in canon. odo then goes & talks to kira, ending his weird period of avoidance

after body parts, odo tries to be normal about kira moving in with the o'briens. he's a little bit sad, because they just started talking normally again and now she's pulling away, but that's his own fault & he knows it

after broken link, odo's lonelier than he's ever been. he spends a lot of time at the bar, ostensibly drinking, but also to see quark. he meets with garak for breakfast. fleeting interactions, they don't feel like enough

also tries reading smut & the like, to see if it feels any different as a solid. it doesn't. that's strangely comforting

during looking for par'Mach in all the wrong places, he notices how kira feels about miles. kira still tells him to drop it, but when he realizes she's going to pull away from miles, he tells her that won't help, and it'll only make them both miserable, trust him. kira looks at him curiously, and we see her wondering, but she doesn't ask. odo suggests keiko is aware of their feelings and doesn't mind and they should all just talk

after that episode, miles & keiko & kira are all together, and kira's still with shakaar. odo feels really distant from her, but he doesn't actively pull away this time, he's just quietly sad

talks to her somewhere in there. not sure where. but she makes time for him

after the begotten, kira mentions was hoping he'd drop by after the birth, and he would've been welcome during. he's a calming presence, she says. we linger on the beat between them, discussing kirayoshi & the baby changeling

odo never quite deals with the extra loneliness & hopelessness he felt as a solid. he pushes it away and ignores it

during children of time, the alt. odo says that often worried about losing her, but her death was worse than any lonely futures he'd imagined. kira misinterprets this as a romantic declaration. at the end of the episode, odo corrects this assumption. he awkwardly explains that he's just...lonely, sometimes. he never tells her alt. odo killed the timeline for her

during behind the lines, favor the bold & sacrifice of angels, the female changeling doesn't say odo's in love with kira. capitalizes instead of his feelings of isolation, on the way he sometimes misses people when they're right in front of him, on the way it's never enough. they still link. over the next it's all about how kira and quark and garak could never truly care about him, never truly connect the way she can.

fascinated by the discarded storyline where odo withdraws after this on the grounds that no one can trust him anymore. i think that tracks and i'd run with it for a while - but i wouldn't have him interrupt the wedding with it. he'd stay quietly for the ceremony, leave early in the celebration, keep to himself, and then make his announcement the next day

odo appears infrequently enough after the wedding in you are cordially invited that i think he keeps to this resolution (to everyone's dismay) for the next 13-ish episodes

then during his way, odo's time in the holosuite is completely different - just regular socializing, in a desperate attempt at a facsimile of connection. if they're only holograms, he can't hurt anyone and can't hurt himself. he ends up with vic's program by accident, he'd requested something else, but ends up sort of liking it. vic produces holograms of his friends. (odo talks about them and vic recognizes the names, it's not a huge leap.) talking to them is painful, the holograms are nothing like them really. anyway. vic does the same thing as before, except instead of a date it's just like. an arranged hangout. kira knows it's real, odo doesn't. odo ends up explaining himself and apologizing not realizing kira is real. then finds out she's real. and well. oops. he runs away. the big argument on the promenade ends in a hug instead of a kiss

later odo finds out quark gave him the vic program on purpose, well aware that vic's a meddler. quark odo awkward shoulder clasp in lieu of a hug

At some point @driftward compared Thancred to Chief Miles O’Brien and as someone who also grew up with Star Trek: The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine....yeah. Yeah.

Dear Miles had a ton of traumatic stuff happen to him (and sometimes his family, as he gained a wife and kids over the course of both shows) that should have broken him in eighteen different ways. The plot whipping boy. Colm Meaney’s a great actor which may have had a part of it, attempting to give him juicy material to really dig into, but it was very much Make the Enlisted Irishman Suffer once or twice or more a season.

And how many times have we noted Thancred tends to be the whipping boy of FFXIV’s MSQ? Man’s been through some hell, from his backstory through Shadowbringers, leaving him with some permanent scars and disabilities, and while much of it seems to have cleared up with his revelations in ShB and healthier mindset since, well.

There’s reasons we enjoy dunking on our damned rogue, while also recognizing he’s a character MSQ likes to kick in the teeth a little more often than most. Make the Scholarly Limsan Suffer? IDK.
