The sound of chairs squeaking filled the meeting room. Staring at the set of brothers seated opposite to you, only amusement was felt as they thought long and hard at your statement, eyes wandering aimlessly around the room as if it held clues to your truth.

They knew you worked in the building, seeing you pass through the halls every once in a while, along with seeing you arrive back from your missions. But today was the first time a conversation was drawn out with you.

So you ended up here, in their main meeting room, which you didn’t mind as you were already headed there, playing some guessing game with some of Bonten’s most dangerous executives without a care in the world.

You’ve known them since they were teens, but it looks like they don’t remember you.

But, curious, they were. Wanting to figure out who you are, and figure out which of their coworkers have you taken vows with.

“So ... you’re married to someone that’s attending this meeting, correct?” By the look in his eye, the older Haitani was more than amused to try and pick out your so-called ‘husband’. To him, it seemed easy enough. Only so many people are going to be in the room and an unlimited amount of guessing? He, at least, was destined to get it right.

And seeing how comfortable you were in this setting, he jumped right in to start trying to piece together, well, the pieces. And so the guessing game began. “Kaku?”

Head shaking, you looked to the younger Haitani for his guess. He could only think long and hard about who would be your type. Obviously him and his brother were out of equation, and your answer to the previous guess narrowed it down a little more. But who else?

Might as well ‘go big or go home’. “... Mikey?”

“Haha – god no.” You spun your chair around a few times before stopping to look at the two once more, head tilted back at the sight of their eyebrows furrowed, hands rubbing beneath their, mostly Ran’s, chins for added measures.

Wondering when they would guess correctly, your mind also wondered where your actual husband could possibly be.

“Could you possibly be married to our dear old Takeomi – ?” About to interject with another ‘no’ for Ran, all eyes turned to the bubblegum haired Bonten number two who burst through the door, who just the same, turned around and ... puked.

“Oh my god, the thought of my brother being married to my s/o makes me sick. Don’t ever say those words again.” The eyes and the open mouths of the Haitani’s told you everything about their reaction, which only made you laugh harder.

Looks like the guessing game ended early, but you could only swoon at the sight of your husband walking back towards you with his charming smile. “Hi ‘zuzu ~ .”

The only thing stopping his plump lips from meeting yours was the hand pressed against his forehead, stopping his lips inches away from yours. “Wash your mouth out first, then you will get a kiss, yeah?”

The pout on his face was extremely kissable, but seeing what happened seconds earlier kept you pushing him out the door once again.

The Haitani’s could only keep looking in amazement at the sight of one of their higher ups, especially Sanzu of all people, being married of all things, and showing affection.

Their silence only grew when the pinkie waltzed back into the room only to kneel in front of your chair and press an affectionate kiss against your hand that he raised, and another on your lips.

Ran and Rindou thought that all the surprises were up, nothing else would amaze them after that. Right?

“Could you not make out with my sibling before the meeting – ?” All eyes turned once more to their boss that just entered the room, followed by the rest of the meeting’s occupants.

The two brothers turned to stare at one another before breaking the silence and shouting simultaneously to everyone’s dismay.

“Married / Sibling – !?” Watching as your boss moved to sit at the head of the table, your Sanzu moved to sit to the right of him, not before slipping you a wink and mumbling a quick apology to his brother in law.

Rindou was the first to speak up, the confusion that flooded his mind seconds ago slowly floating away. “So ... you’re married to ... him ... and he’s ... your brother – ?”

Giggling slightly at his lowered voice and confused tone, you waved him off, along with everyone else’s stares to respond. “Yes we’re married, and I’m the adopted sibling. Izana was my big bro.”

They, Rindou especially, weren’t able to process all the sudden information blasting them in the face. But Ran was able to, somewhat, compose himself to almost interject but was stopped by Mikey announcing the start of the meeting once the rest of the members entered, who were quite confused to say the least after hearing the last bit of the conversation.

You laughed before turning your attention back to the main reasons for the meeting, silently letting the brothers, and everyone else who was invested in this, know you will explain it all later.

when i started shipping them: early 2921 when i started community

my thoughts: they were so queercoded and from a story telling perspective a lot the plot lines can really only make sense if they were romantically inclined but dan harmon was a coward and they liked benefiting from trobed shippers without wanting to make them canon. but they are in my heart.

what makes me happy about them: they are so utterly in love but like they care so deeply for each other. they made each other feel safe and seen in a way they never expected or thought possible

what makes me sad about them: the mutual pining with no closure and how they both found their person and specifically with abed, troy chose to leave him. and abed was hurt but more importantly mad at himself for being hurt because he should’ve seen it coming because that’s what people do, come into his life and make him care about them and then leave.

stranger things S4 thoughts/rant below cut so people don’t get spoiled

There are a lot of things to like about it, like Max’s arc (that scene where she escaped Vecna was impeccable and so emotional!), the Robin and Nancy friendship, and the 001/Creel twist. But this wouldn’t be a rant if I was just talking about the stuff I liked.

I’m probably gonna go against the grain here and say I actually have a lot of problems with the season so far, and the last episodes are gonna have to basically pull off a Hopper miracle to change my opinion on it.

First of all, so far, Hopper being alive has no bearing on the main plot. If you take it out, it simply doesn’t matter other than getting Joyce out of the house so her kids can get shot at and drive to Utah. That storyline exists completely separately from the main issue this season and honestly feels kind of pointless. Hopper is alive... hurray? 

The next problem is Will, Mike, and Jonathan’s plot. They are actually doing something that’s relevant to the main plot sort of by helping El, but they are entirely disconnected from the rest of the cast in Hawkins. That wouldn’t be such a huge problem if the Duffers didn’t run out of stuff for them to do after deciphering those coordinates while the rest of the storylines keep moving. You can tell that’s messy plot work because while episode 7 is packed with content, you literally don’t see this group for the whole 110 minutes it runs for. Even their guard getting tortured gets an appearance!

With the Hawkins group, there are some things I just subjectively don’t like, but I don’t necessarily see them as problems. I hate the basketball team subplot. I know they’re there to be another obstacle for our main characters, but holy hell are they annoying. The other thing that’s a no from me? The renewed Steve/Nancy plot. Okay, this is objectively annoying, especially when you have both Robin and Eddie trying to shove them together. Yes, I understand the two of them are going through some problems in their relationship, but when you’ve spent three seasons emphasizing that those two are IN LOVE, I don’t need the shallow wandering eye because of loneliness and regrettable losses, aight? Unless this somehow leads to a revelation for Steve that he needs to stop looking for what he needs in a relationship, I’m not on board with this plot at all.

So, to get my Hopper miracle, I’m looking for:

1. Tying in Hopper’s plot into the main story

2. Let Will, Mike, and Jonathan shine as much as the Hawkins group in the main story

3. Resolve the stupid love triangle in a satisfying way (that hopefully doesn’t involve Steve and Nancy getting back together, ugh)

Only three things on the list, but they’re big asks. I know how tough it is to write a story that can serve the entire cast equally, so I’m well aware it might not happen, but hopefully I’m surprised. At the very least, it’s been an entertaining watch with some outstanding moments.

How I feel about this character: I don't like Chad canon and what they did to him in his arc. I don't like that this character is Ella's child. But... I like what the fandom has done with Chad. I like the analysis and development that he can have. I like the potential that Chad has. Especially when it comes to learning to recognize the authoritarianism of the government and his privileged position. I like that Chad is actually smart, he has the rules memorized in his head. I like that Chad is charismatic and manipulative. I like that Chad knows that he is attractive and uses it to his advantage. I like that Chad is a romantic and strives to make the people he loves happy. Now, take all of that and make a good character. A kind and brave character. Take all that and make a son worthy of Ella. Sounds interesting right? Well, if you are interested in this I invite you to read RebelPaisley. Say that Nocturna sent you (?). But it's thanks to this author that I saw Chad's potential and started adding him to my stories. I like Chad. This Chad.

One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon:  They owe me the friendship between Ben and Chad. They made Chad the joke of everyone. And they took away any redemption arc from him. Does anyone remember how in the middle D1 Chad and Jay seemed to reach a friendship? And how does Ben mess up Chad's hair in the end? What happened with that? Eh? And secondly, how do they happen to have Ella's son and the Fairy Godmother's daughter and not have them as best friends (or something more, IDK)? Chad must have been Jane’s prince. And Jane must have been Chad's fairy. Platonic or not. Can you imagine how cool it would have been if they referred to each other as "mine"? "Yeah, Chad is obsessed with being the perfect prince and sometimes he looks like a fool. But he's my fool for as long as I can remember. So don’t be rude with MY fool." or "Ben, we need to talk, I know Jane is helping you with being king but you are exhausting her. And before she is your pretty assistant she's my pretty Jane. Hi! I’ve been really busy this past week but I’m better, thank you and thanks for asking too! I did the three of them because I just love all of them :D

001 Ship: KdFd

When I started shipping it if I did:

Here it's again the story of how my little brother with only 10 years opened my eyes and changed my life. So we were watching Inazuma Eleven 3rd season (before the rewatch) and I was watching the anime without shipping (or realizing) anything at that moment. Then my brother sighed and told me "Jude and Caleb should marry, they're so obviously in love" and I was like OMG it's TRUE. (Funny thing is that he has this good sense for canon ships, like he said Korra and Asami would end together when half first season was on and has done it with other couples too -also he could adivine who would fall on an ice skating rink, he would be a very good fortune teller-)

My thoughts:

They're my OTP. Like, they're the ship I like most of every ship I ship. And I have some old “growing with” ships in the list like pokeshipping, takari and harutake, which are from some animes that were truly important to me as a child and so are these ships.

I love Kidou and Fudou as individuals, as friends and as a couple. Fudou is my favourite character from Inazuma (and my favourite character in general). And well, I just adore their relationship so much, like they're so pure somehow. I love their moments, their episodes, their hissatsus. I was really excited when Killer Fields happened. And the match against Team K or the Demons/Fallen Angel. I love so much when they're holding hands, such a moment.

So, summarizing I LOVE THEM.

What makes me happy about them:

THEY, EVERYTHING about them makes me happy. I love watching anything about them. And I love creating drawings/stories about them because I just love them so much.

What makes me sad about them:

Ares/Orion. But as I don't like it in general… Something I missed was Kidou not returning to Teikoku in the end of OG. But I also would have liked them interacting in Go. Like, I want to rewrite Go movie so Fudou can go save Kidou when he is kidnapped.

Things done in fanfic that annoys me:

Here I really have something. When they make Fudou not being faithful to Kidou just for drama or kinks. When I don't like a summary I don't go further but I found twice something not expected in tags or warning and well, went sad because to me they are LOVE made couple. 

Also, this is very particular and based in personal trauma. I don't like smoking Fudou. I don't like smoking characters in general, because my mother smoked when I was little and somehow this is a traumatic experience. But I can go with it. Like I'll read the story although I don't enjoy this specific little thing.

Things I look for in fanfic:

If they're there in a respectful relationship or going to it, I'm on board. I love them so much that I'll read almost anything with them. I even read a story where Kidou died and I didn’t like them but the story was beautiful.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: 

I can't imagine another person for them. And what's more I never saw Kidou as an easy partner. I think it's hard to go on with him based on his personality, but that's just my view of him.

My happily ever after for them:

While I like the idea of them working as professional football players I absolutely love the idea of Fudou and Kidou being the first ones to start the time travelling thing. Like first investigations, first ideas of how this is in fact possible, etc. Maybe not being able to travel, but putting the seeds for further investigations.

So, they marry after Genda and Sakuma. They’re in the Japan Football Team but as the same time they work in their own business of ingenery/physics helping with prototypes of really complex technology (I can see them working in collaboration with Tatsuya and Midorikawa). They have three kids and live in an expensive and luxurious flat near a park. They often travel to Italy, they even have a second residence there. They in fact (as any other couple you can ask me) have a long and happy married life. Kidou dies first, Fudou’s the last one of his friends and he makes a special bond with his great grandson Kidou Akira.

Who is the big spoon/little spoon:

Fudou is the big spoon most of the time to cheer Kidou up. Sometimes despiste it is Kidou who hugs Fudou from the back.

What is their favorite non-sexual activity:

Watching Happy Feet 😂😂 ok, seriously. I imagine them being very competitive so they enjoy any game they can play. Chess, Go, Super Smash Bros, Monopoly, any game. They enjoy playing and trying to beat the other so the winner can show dominance.

I also think they'd enjoy walking at night together and sitting on a bench (Kidou's romantic rival) just to breathe air and hold hands in silence, sometimes they'd talk, sometimes they wouldn't.

001 Ship: SomeFubu

When I started shipping it if I did:

The truth is that the first time I watched Inazuma I didn’t like Fubuki, the anime was in middle of the second arc and I didn't understand what was going on. It also happened someone I didn't like loved Fubuki. So it took me some time to like Fubuki and start shipping him with Someoka who is one of my favs. More truth to be said, Someoka was the one that helped me to like Fubuki XD The scene that started everything was the one of "being like the wind together" and AND the Ogre movie. When Someoka gives his T-shirt to Fubuki to defend Raimon, he didn't know him yet and still trust him so much. Being Someoka that meant a lot.

My thoughts:

I adore Someoka so for me is a bit unbalanced, I mean, I love Someoka so so much that Fubuki doesn’t get all my focus here. Anyways, this couple is just adorable, the thing I like most is thinking that Someoka would be so soft and tender with Fubuki, Someoka loves everything in him, he knows him so much. You can’t convince me that Someoka wouldn’t be the best boyfriend ever. And Fubuki would absolutely love him back at 200% or more, supporting his dreams, improving his self steem and being for Someoka when he needs it. I like to imagine them as one of these extra sweet couples.

What makes me happy about them:

I’m always happy when I know someone else ship them because they are amazing. But as they’re not canon there’s no so much content. BUT the only good thing Ares had to me was Someoka being in Hakuren Team (I don’t like how he was used there, but well… that’s another story). And I love watching art or reading of them.

What makes me sad about them:

People being assholes and insulting Someoka and Someoka’s fans. Especially when they ship Fubuki with Gouenji. Ship whatever you want to ship and leave the others alone. Don’t come insulting us.

Things done in fanfic that annoys me:

Sometimes I find that SomeFubu relationship is portrayed as toxic as hell and Someoka is really abusive. And that makes me sad even if I’m not going to read that.

Things I look for in fanfic:

Fluff, comfort, daily life. Happy stories.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:

I don’t have any particular ship for them aside from SomeFubu. But if not with Fubuki I wish Someoka to be with the BEST PERSON he could dream.

My happily ever after for them:

They live in a little house in a little town in Hokkaido. Someoka at least plays in the National Team and Fubuki is Hakuren’s Coach. They both play in a smaller local team too. When they are too old to play in the National I can see them running an Adventure and Excursion business, maybe aimed at children so they can enjoy and have fun at the mountain. They have a daughter and a fox Someoka rescued.

Who is the big spoon/little spoon:

Someoka is the big spoon and he loves it.

What is their favorite non-sexual activity:

I really think they’d love to go skiing and snowboarding together, in general they’d love to enjoy snow and then go back home to drink hot cocoa. I also see them cooking together, being the main chef Someoka and Fubuki helping him with the little things like putting near the salt or taking the carrots out of the fridge.

001 Ship: GouTora

When I started shipping it if I did:

If I remember right it was in the match against Fire Dragon. But I’m not so sure with this ship, it could be sooner, but not later.

My thoughts:

I am usually don’t like so much ships where one of them starts with such an admiration for the other because I think they tend to not be healthy. But Idk, I just love them so much? I love Toramaru, I don’t usually talk or write about him but he is one of my favourite characters and I totally felt with this ship. I like the idea that Gouenji can be himself with him too, even if this means that he is sometimes a bit mean or impatient, not that he can mistreat Toramaru because he wouldn’t, just not need to be always perfect.

What makes me happy about them:

I love how their relationship evolves and how Toramaru wins confidence in the anime. I think that shipping or not shipping it’s a really nice relationship. And I also really really like Tiger Storm. I was also happy that in Go Toramaru is the only one of Gouenji’s friends to whom he not only told the truth but asked for help, like their bond is so lovely.

What makes me sad about them:

Not about them, but I was sad Toramaru wasn’t in Inazuma Legend Japan. I think he was in the bench, with Tachimukai, Midorikawa and all the others that didn’t appear in the Team, you can’t change my mind.

Things done in fanfic that annoys me:

Not sure, I didn’t see many fanfic for them ;v; which is the most sad. So, the lack of stories.

Things I look for in fanfic:

As there are only a few fan fics of them I think I’d like whatever I can find if they don’t have my no-no (main character death, and so)

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:

I don’t have any other for Gouenji but for Toramaru would be Gouenji’s sister Yuuka :,) (I prefer her with Yuuichi anyways).

My happily ever after for them:

Toramaru runs his Detective Agency and Gouenji plays in a national team (can be boring but they are football players so being professionals I suppose is the best for all of them ;v;). They live in Okinawa, near the sea. Being neighbours with TsunaTachi and HIjikata. They have a really really really big dog called Tiger because owning tigers isn’t allowed (as Gouenji discovered). They’d have 3-5 children, adopted from Hijikata orphanage. When retired Gouenji starts working as a doctor because he actually studied Medicine and because I fucking love the detective+doctor duo :D They have the best garden in Okinawa.

Who is the big spoon/little spoon:

Toramaru is the big spoon or jet pack.

What is their favorite non-sexual activity:

They love going to the cinema together, Toramaru couldn’t go but a few times as a child because he had to help his mother so he is always super excited when they go to watch a movie. Once they grew having the best garden, it helps them to relax and keep stress away. But they always like to watch a good movie, specially if it’s about detectives. I also think they’d enjoy the sea a lot: swimming, surfing and all, once Tsunami teaches them how to love the sea.

When I started shipping them: Oh gosh... uhh 2013 ish?? Maybe 2012?? My older brother got SoulSilver and he would let me play on it (tho i couldn’t save, rip) and I immediately was hooked on them lol

My Thoughts: They’re a really interesting ship with the potential for a lot of depth - like the games only cover the start of their relationship with them being rivals/Silver’s character arc/Lyra discovering Giovanni is his dad which is a huge eye opener for her to start to understand him past the mean and callous exterior- and I love exploring that depth xP

What makes me happy about them: So much?? Beyond the Road: Pilot

001 “Pilot” Written by Eric Kripke Directed by David Nutter

Plot Summary

In 1983, Mary Winchester was pinned to the ceiling of her sons bedroom and murdered. Twenty two years later her sons, Dean and Sam are reunited after several years apart when their father goes missing. They follow him to the town of Jericho where a string of men have vanished and though their father is nowhere to be found, the brothers continue the investigation which leads them to a stretch of highway and the local mystery that surrounds it. 

Sam

Normal vs Safe. A good chunk of this episode is dedicated to highlighting Sam’s decision to leave the supernatural behind him and try for a safe life. He makes the distinction between ‘normal’ and ‘safe’ when Dean accuses him of running. He doesn’t think he can have a normal life. This is an issue Sam will struggle with for the whole series, going all the way up to 15x16. In this episode however, he argues that his life isn’t normal but he wants a safe life. He doesn’t want a life where he is constantly looking over his shoulder but he won’t ignore danger. We get a glimpse of this when Dean breaks into the apartment - Sam can clearly still fight. In contrast to this, we do see Sam’s aversion to anything reminiscent of the supernatural such as Halloween. He doesn’t want to think about it as he doesn’t see how it could possibly live alongside the life he has chosen for himself.

Branching off of this, I wanted to make note of a distinction between Sam and Dean and their worldviews. As Sam and Dean leave the apartment they talk harshly about the way they were raised. Sam claims that they were “raised like warriors”. He talks about how, when he was scared of the ‘monster’ in his closet John gave him a weapon. He views this as something that shouldn’t have happened - that John should have told him not to be scared. Dean argues against this but it starts to become clear that Sam can only see the horror in the hunter lifestyle. This is a contention Sam and Dean will return to in the next episode and elsewhere in the series. Sam is only able to, at this point, see the negatives of a hunter lifestyle.

Sam’s resistant to the way he and Dean were raised, but an interesting idea begins to form during their argument on the bridge. Sam doesn’t see John’s revenge plan as something he is part of, unlike Dean. He doesn’t want to avenge Mary as he doesn’t remember her. He is very unsympathetic about John’s revenge plan which, I think it’s safe to say, stems from that manner in which he was raised. He was dragged around the country and his own life seemingly put on pause so John could hunt and get revenge. Sam has far more self-preservation than Dean and puts his own life over revenge. This is a theme that will come up again and again during the show.

Something else that I noticed during my rewatch was Sam listening to Jess’s messages in John’s motel room. He listens to her messages but doesn’t actually talk to her. In fact, during his time in Jericho, we never see Sam call Jess. The only person he attempts to communicate with is Dean. He will listen to her stories but doesn’t contribute anything himself. Just like their pasts; Jess has, as far as we are aware of, been honest and open to Sam about herself. Sam, on the otherhand, is keeping so many secrets from her that it comes across as a rather unequal partnership.

Dean

First thing to note for Dean is the Original Trauma of Supernatural; Dean carrying his brother out of the burning house. This has been talked about… everywhere. I felt like I still had to mention it and how this is the base layer of Dean’s personality and something that is embedded in his sense of self-worth. I also wanted to make note of how this continues through to the show through to 15x10. Dean is put in charge of looking after Sam and so much of his life is structured around his role as Sam’s protector. This affects other relationships in Dean’s life as he struggles to put Sam down long enough for himself to pursue anything or anyone not directly linked to hunting or Sam. This is something he will eventually grow out of by the time we get to 15x10.

There’s something else that has never really occurred to me but Dean probably relates so strongly to victims of the week because he himself was a victim of a supernatural attack. Sam doesn’t remember the night Mary died and doesn’t let it rule his life but for Dean that night changed his whole world. I’ve never quite made that connection until now but, as we’ll see starting the very next episode, Dean is more empathetic to victims than Sam is and it possibly stems from this.

Okay, about Dean flirting with Jess. Obviously, at the very start of the series Dean is meant to be portrayed rather less thoughtfully than what Jensen actually did so this could be brushed aside as the writers just wanting to make Dean a fuckboy but this kind of behaviour does show up again later in the series but with more baggage tied to it. Dean flirts automatically. He makes cheeky comments laden with sexual innuendo all the time, including later in this episode to the police. It’s possible that he just finds this the easiest way to make a connection without actually opening himself up too much. Also, in recent years he has lost both Cassie and Lee so this flirting, which actually worked to distance Jess more, may have been a way of keeping out anyone he considered an “outsider” because the last two he let in didn’t stay.

Something else that was interesting about Dean’s thoughts on Jess is something I only really noted on this recent watch; he doesn’t think her relationship with Sam is healthy because Sam is lying to her. For someone who lies for a living Dean struggles to lie to people he cares about, especially people he enters relationships with. At this point Dean’s two biggest relationships have been with Lee, another hunter who worked with Dean and understood the life, and Cassie, who Dean told all about hunting and monsters and subsequently lost. As the series progresses Dean will have a serious relationship with Lisa who learns about monsters and hunting. His relationship with Cas becomes fraught when Cas lies to him in s6 and honesty becomes a central aspect of their bond, with telling the truth becoming the major story arc for their characters. 

The last point I want to make about Dean is about the bridge fight between the brothers. Dean says that Sam has “a responsibility” to their father which Sam scoffs at. In reality, Dean is the one who has tied himself to John out of a sense of duty. This line reads to me like Dean projecting onto Sam, something he will do again during the series. Dean is the one who tied himself to the family revenge crusade and his anger at Sam here hints at his own anger about his situation. This is something that will rear its head later on in the series.

Mary

The opening scene became more painful the longer the series went on for. From being sad about a family being torn apart to being sad about the loss of Sam and Dean’s mother and childhood innocence we can now see the scene from Mary’s point of view. Having lost her own childhood and parents to the supernatural Mary’s desire to run and live a normal life is understandable. In that manner, Sam is like her though unlike Sam, the price of running was paid by Mary and not an innocent bystander. The two deaths bookend the episode but also suggest a theme of continuing the cycle. 

Mary vs Constance. I’ve written about the parallels of Mary and Constance here. I do have one thing I wanted to add to this and that is something that occurs on the bridge during the brothers fight. Sam and Dean argue about Mary culminating in Dean shoving Sam against the bridge’s railing and that is when Constance appears. Symbolically Constance represents the ghost of Mary, haunting the boys even after all these years. She is summoned as they invoke her name, wearing a similar nightgown to what Mary died in. The death of Mary had a major effect on the boys and this episode begins to hint at it though we won’t see it fully realised until her return much later in the series.

“Angels are watching over you”. I know, I know. It wasn’t technically said in this episode but as it is confirmed in s2 that these were Mary’s last words to Dean I think I’m safe to talk about it. I won’t say a lot yet but this line does tie Cas into the original trauma of the show if only as the representation of the faith that Dean would learn to trust after having given up because of this trauma. Mary’s faith is something that became tainted in Dean’s eyes after she died. He never had the same faith that Sam did because of this until an angel proved himself to Dean. This imagery comes full circle in s12 when Cas does save Mary in 12x12 but more on that later.

The Story

So the episode itself is primarily linked to Mary’s death and the Trauma of the Winchester Family. It does set the characters up for their journeys moving forward as well though. The story is ultimately dominated by the brother, of course, learning to be brothers again. When the show started Sam was intended to be the main character while Dean was a supporting character. During the episode we start with Sam and don’t get much insight into Dean as a character. Knowing what happens in the rest of the series really highlights how Sam truly didn’t know his brother as well as he thought he did. Or rather, Dean managed to keep a lot of things from his brother. One of the most infamous moments is, of course, Dean’s “no chick flick moments” comment. This is something Sam will learn to see through later but in this episode he seems to take it at face value along with many other aspects of Dean.

One other thing to mention about the plot of the episode itself. One of those is the destruction of the Welch family due to the mothers actions. She acted out of intense pain and betrayal but her actions do lead to her children suffering. This theme not only pertains to the Winchester family (Mary, Dean and Sam) but also to Sam, Dean and Jack in s14. This kind of familial pain returns, again, in s15.

And with that we have 1x01 in the bag. Next week we’re off to Blackwater Ridge in 1x02 Wendigo.

Favorite Character: Tohru! She’s soooo pure, and I really admire her and look up to her. I want to be more like her, kind to everyone and so sweet. She offers really good advice and she really helps people. 

Character I would want to be best friends with: Tohru again so she can teach me her ways. Also probably Shigure—he’s *narrows eyes*... something. But he makes me laugh. 

Random Thought: No like seriously, I love Shigure. Also, like, I remember when I first got into FB I was really excited but there are sOME FANS who have been fans since the first anime, or even before that, who are RUDE. I know I don’t have a lot of knowledge about the series yet because I haven’t read the manga. So please be patient, and be patient with all the other new fans too, please! 

OTPs: idk about canon/non-canon or anything really besides the spoilers I have which are ofc Kyoru is canon. but I’ll tell u what I ship. Kyoru ofc, cuties. how can u not? 001: Pyre

Favorite character: This is a fairly close one among the top three, but I’d say Ti’zo followed by Jodi and the Moon-Touched Girl in some order. I tend to dislike little mascot animal characters, but Ti’zo is an exception. He looks like a bat and he has so much attitude. He can be cute or he can be a little cuss, but there are also moments where you feel the weight of how long he’s lived and the people he’s lost. At one point in the game, I was wondering if he might be one of the Scribes or even a god in disguise. (It was the way the Voice reacted when I first put him in a rite. I knew something was up with this imp.) I also love that you see him with so many close bonds with different members of the cast, from old friends like Oralech to newcomers like the Moon-Touched Girl. The combination of him being ancient and scrappy as well as very small and cuddly works for me.

Least favorite character: Keeping it to the main cast, I’m going to say Sir Gilman. I don’t hate him, but he doesn’t interest me as much and his style of play frustrated me.

5 Favorite Ships (canon or non-canon): I don’t have any real ships for this game. I thought Jodariel’s and Ignarius’ scenes were endearing and funny, but I wouldn’t say I’m committed to the ship. 

Character I Find Most Attractive: Celeste. My goodness, what a beautiful character design. Elegant but superhuman and powerful. I also think Tamitha and Oralech have really cool looks.

Character I would marry: I think I could do a lot worse than Hedwyn. He’s hardworking and decent, and he has a great smile.

Character I would be best friends with: I can only hope Ti’zo would want to be friends with me.

a random thought: I also love that big drive imp that sits by the door of the blackwagon. I may have beeped it every time I went in.

An unpopular opinion: I think it’s better than Bastion. For me, the larger cast and clearer narrative arc worked better. The interplay with the main villain is so uniquely handled. The visuals are punchier. I enjoyed the gameplay more. But this is so subjective, and absolutely not a hill I would die on.

My Canon OTP: Don’t have one.

My Non-canon OTP: *cough* You mean that specific headspace where I take that unofficial Jen Zee art of the Transistor characters in rites robes and start shipping Red and Boxer in a Pyre AU?

Most Badass Character: Jodariel. She’s strong, her emotions run deep, she learns from her mistakes, she unobtrusively takes care of people.

Most Epic Villain: I mean, I do really love the Voice. Not as in I would ever want to know the Voice, but as a character and plot device. Like they did with Rucks and the Boxer, the team did such a good job establishing a rapport with this unseen, barely-known character and the game’s protagonist, and then the actual player as well. You hear this hammily imperious voice and you want to know more. It helps that the Voice has a lot of variety in his reactions – pleasure, contempt, confusion, even a (very entitled) sense of hurt betrayal when you don’t dance to his tune.

Pairing I am not a fan of: I can’t think of one that bothers me especially, certainly not one that I’ve seen enough to be annoyed by.

Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): I don’t think the game fails any of its characters. I would’ve liked to have seen more with/about Celeste, because her motives and attitude are very shadowy. I think she’s meant to be remote, ancient, mysterious, but she also comes across as having little context. So when her character does develop, there wasn’t a lot of payoff for me.

Favorite Friendship: Leaving out the ones involving the Reader, I’ll say Moon-touched girl and Ti’zo. I would’ve liked to see more with Hedwyn and Jodariel, given their backstory.

Character I Most Identify With: I’m going a bit in circles as I try to decide. I could say the Voice because I do love to lecture, but I’m going to think better of myself and tentatively say Jodi. I’m not strong and badass and I’m terrible at basketball. But, like her, I can be a little suspicious and withdrawn, but I do actually care about people, and once you’ve known me for like ten years I start to warm up and be emotionally present. And, like Jodi, I would like to spend my free time brushing the drive imps.

Character I Wish I Could Be: I would certainly like to be hardworking and brave and humble like Hedwyn.

003: The Moon-touched Girl

(Whom I will call Bae, because the game told me that couldn’t possibly be her name, so I said that it was.)

How I feel about this character: In some ways, I feel she’s a little precious. Wide-eyed and innocent and spiritual. Deeply isolated and traumatized, but not in any way that makes it difficult to be around her. She’s very idealized. But at the same time, I find her very endearing. Her dialogue highlights the unusual speech patterns they used for this game. Her design is delicate and otherworldly, but also sharp-edged and energetic, and she has those blazing red eyes. She’s been through so much, and I love seeing her making connections and finding her family with the other characters. Also, she was my absolute favorite character to play as and I never let her go. Which is fine, because even in the Downside, she’s learned to be happy.

Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: No one especially. That could maybe be in her future, but I don’t think she’s looking for it right now.

My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: Ti’zo, though thinking about it, maybe Jodariel actually. That scene where she hugs Bae is such a vivid moment.

My unpopular opinion about this character: Possibly what I said above, about her being too good to be true.

One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon: Nothing that comes to mind except maybe to have her history be dealt with more realistically. It might’ve been too much for the story to go into without sidetracking the plot.

Favorite friendship for this character: Possibly Jodariel’s edging out Ti’zo here. Though on the other hand, Bae and Ti’zo have more of an equalized relationship, without any parental overtones. So Ti’zo and Bae.

My crossover ship: This is a bit obscure, but I might be able to see her with someone like Rudy from the original Wild Arms. Like Bae, he’s been forced to spend a lot of his life on the outskirts, and he’s also spent most of his years wandering. Bae comes across as very assured and secure in herself, so I wouldn’t assume she’d gravitate towards an older mentorlike figure. Rudy has a similar open-hearted youthfulness to Bae. Once she learned about the dark, dangerous issues surrounding him, I don’t think she’d be fazed. Rudy would be stunned by her nonjudgmental acceptance, and she’d have a steady, sure-footed partner who could roll with her eccentricities.

Ramblings and crazy theory time about GK chap 224 “On The Shores Of Lake Shikoku”

So we’ve a new chapter... and a new fairy tale character to meet.

Meet the new awesome guy who joins the cast and introduces himself in his elegant tattooed birthday suit, pirate Boutarou, real name Oosawa Fusatarou finally delighting our eyes with his awesome look!

But well, let’s not run ahead.

The chapter starts with the promised Ogata colour cover.

The awesome Tsurumineko discovered the text written on it is probably a reference to the Japanese postal service Kuroneko Yamato with ‘Sā ikau! Yamaneko Ogata no hitchū-bin’ (さあ行かう！ ヤマネコ尾形の必中便! “Con on, let’s go! Wildcat Ogata sure-hit service!”) being a put on their courier service (宅急便 “Takkyūbin”). Even the small text ‘Ippotemae e!’ (一歩手前へ! “One step ahead!”) should be a reference to Yamato’s slogan ‘Ippomae e!’ (一歩前へ “One step forward!”).

Of course, twisting the reading a little and adding the chapter’s title ‘Shikotsuko no hotori de’ (支笏湖のほとりで “On the shores of Lake Shikotsu”) to the writing you can have “Come on, let’s go! On the shores of Lake Shikotsu”) which can hint this will be where our characters will converge.

The sentence is also used as a meme due to this commercial ‘Sā ikau ikka o agete Nanbei e’ (さあ行かう一家をあげて南米へ “Come on, let’s go to south America”)

Now… the visual.

The art at first made me think this cover was meant to be part of a series of ‘Golden Kamuy’ early covers presenting the characters and their equipments, then discharged because Ogata’s equipment wasn’t really as noteworthy as the others (I mean, we got from Sugimoto’s presentation the info about the rifle, the bayonet and the belt with the ammunition so the most we could get from Ogata were new info about his uniform and nothing more).

The style of the colouring, has many have noticed, reminds of old manga from ‘60/’70… and, more specifically, reminded me of ‘Cyborg 009’ (サイボーグ009) a beautiful manga series from the great Ishinomori Shōtarō (石ノ森 章太郎) transposed in various anime and movies.

The series is about 9 cyborgs whose uniform is similar to Ogata’s but commonly in a red colour with an extremely long yellow scarf (in some transpositions the uniform is white or blue but the red uniform is the most iconic). Ishinomori has also some covers in which he couloured in yellow the characters, further connecting the visual of this cover to his works.

What’s more as I said ‘Cyborg 009’ is a manga about 9 cyborgs of the ‘00’ series (001, 002, 003, 004, 005, 006, 007, 008 and the titular character 009) who were originally people kidnapped and forcefully turned into cyborgs by the evil Black Ghost organization, led by its tyrannical leader Skull (スカール) whose name can also be translitterated as Scar,

to undergo experiments that would allow him to use them as human weapons to promote the production of cyborg warfare. The cyborgs however escaped and rebelled to the Black Ghost organization.

Next to Ogata’s image there’s his name written in a peculiar way. Ogata Hyakunosuke’s name is normally written in kanji as 尾形 百之助 but this time Noda wrote it in Roman letters except for the kanji 百 which means “100”, and in short contains ‘00’ as if to joke he’s part of the ‘00’ series of cyborgs… and from this point is easy to see the parallelism between the Shinigami Tsurumi (whose face can resemble a skull) who’s planning to produce weapons and drugs to gain from war and Skull and his evil organization.

Of course, if we’ve to assume Noda wanted to establish a parallelism between Ogata and the 00 cyborgs we would assume he compared him to the titular character, 009, real name Shimamura Jō (島村 ジョー), a half Japanese, half American boy who was shunned by his peers because he was a half-breed, became a delinquent, escaped from a juvenile detention facility before being captured by Black Ghost.

However as @raggiodilunablr suggested, it’s also possible that Noda is thinking to a parallelism not with 009 but with 001 (100 in reverse).

001, real name Ivan Whisky (イワン·ウイスキー), Russian, a baby born with a severe illness on whom his father Gamo, a famous brain surgeon, performed numerous brain enhancement processes which allowed his mental capacity to far exceed that of a normal human. The implants were inserted against the wishes of Ivan's mother, Erika (who he even kills in the manga). Later on though his father went mad and discharged him in the care of the Black Ghost as he focused on creating other cyborgs. Due to all this Ivan is a highly intelligent, genius level child, talented in scientific analysis and can telepathically converse at an adult level, often working as the other leader of the cyborgs. He has an "ends justify the means" type of nature and he is willing to sacrifice the title character 009 to save the world (though 009 is okay with it). Considering how Noda likes to parallel Ogata to a child, it can be it’s 001 he had in mind.

Anyway I recommend everyone to go read the manga or watch the Cyborg 009 anime series as it’s awesome and a great classic (never mentioning the other characters in it can vaguely parallel our cast of characters in Golden Kamuy).

But now let’s move to the plot.

Ironically Asirpa too decides, same as Ogata, they would have swans for dinner and explains to Sugimoto how they would hunt him. When she explains they use the light of a fire to draw it close Sugimoto, whose arm is still in a sling, worry they would hit the swan.

Honestly the contrast between Sugimoto not hesitating in the slightest to maim or kill people for his goals but yet being shocked by how Asirpa would do the same to animals in order to eat them to survive never fails to impress me. Asirpa first says they wouldn’t hit them but grab them geeently, to then admit they would just bash them in the neck with a piece of wood… because really, Sugimoto, how would you expect just gently grabbing them would cause them to die so that you can eat them?

There’s a minor gag about a swan and Shiraishi both being lead there by the light then noticing each other, the swan about to attack Shiraishi (swans are pretty aggressive despite their beautiful look) before Asirpa clubbed the swan. The group then eat the swan, with another recurring gag of Asirpa offering the head to Sugimoto and Sugimoto not really eating it before we’ll move to the real plot of the story.

Shiraishi had been checking the gold dust that Heita was carrying and had noticed something. Heita had kept samples of the gold dust from every river he went. It turns out gold dust from different rivers have different looks so a skilled gold panner can tell where the gold dust was found just by looking at it.

Now, credits when it’s due, for most of the Heita arc I was assuming Heita was a charlatan, using the lie he found all that gold dust and all his talks about knowing how to find gold to draw there unsuspecting victims and robs them of their money.

It turned out the guy was genuinely an expert and his aims and problems were of different nature and this chapter remarks it.

Anyway we now get a summary of the whole gold story.

A long time ago the Ainu gathered up the gold dust in a single place, feared it would cause disaster and hid it. Time went by and eventually only few men knew about it. Shiraishi assumes those men were the ones killed in what he labels as the ‘Nopperabō jiken’ (のっぺらぼう事件 “Noppera-bou incident”).

Now… originally the men murdered and chopped to the point they were reduced to lump of flesh were assumed to have been 7, one of whom should have been Asirpa’s father. We know Asirpa’s father managed to escape but Shiraishi assumes 7 men were still killed. It’s possible the men were 7… albeit it’s also possible, since those Ainu were chopped into pieces, their remains scattered, that the men murdered were 6. I don’t know. I don’t even know if it’s relevant how many were killed, we only know Ariko’s father was among the deceased.

Shiraishi suggests that it’s possible though that other people (in additions to the ones who died) knew were the gold was, which is why Noppera-bou and Co wanted to move the gold, so as to better hide it.

Shiraishi points out in the end it seems Noppera-bou did all the work by himself… which is a huge assumption. They could have moved the gold together and then those men could have been killed so as to keep the secret on where the gold was.

Anyway, no matter if the moving was done by 1 people or 8, Shiraishi’s theory that it shouldn’t have been moved far is solid enough as moving all that gold would be troublesome even for 8 people.

Shiraishi suggests if there’s Ainu who knew where the gold previously was, those Ainu should have ben residing near the previous hideout for the gold. Shiraishi says if they could find out which type of gold dust was hidden there they could figure out from where the gold came.

Sugimoto points out either way they can’t do it as the gold is HIDDEN, meaning they can’t check it to figure out where it was taken from and Asirpa agrees he’s being an idiot but Shiraishi proves again he’s all but that.

Shiraishi is awesome people, please, remember about it!

In fact Shiraishi remembers that Tanigaki told them Noppera-bou ran away with part of the gold but then his boat capsized and the gold dusk sank.

Sugimoto remembers this happened in Lake Shikotsu.

Asirpa wonders if Shiraishi is suggesting to drop searching for the skins as they had always done and start searching for the sunken gold dust.

Shiraishi points out since getting the skins might be completely impossible this could be another way to approach the problem but when Sugimoto sums up their new course of action...

Sugimoto states he thinks each step is too hard and, as to make matter worse Asirpa points out the very first step is impossible for them as Lake Shikotsu is the deepest lake in Hokkaido so they can’t dive in it and recover the gold Noppera-bou lost… and here it’s were Asirpa is missing a tiny yet extremely relevant detail.

In fact a flashback starts, reporting what happened one year ago at Lake Shikoku, hinting the convicts escaped around one year ago.

Heita went on a boat on Lake Shikoku with someone else. That someone else wants to dive in the lake and is employing Heita to get some help. Said someone else is the Pirate Boutarou, mentioned by Kadokura in the previous chapter and whose real name is Ōsawa Fusatarō.

We get some explanations on how this guy is an amazing diver, who can stay underwater for 30 minutes, has giant feet and palmed hands. As a child he was employed as one of the workers who ferries lumber down the rivers refining his skill in the water then moved to just pull people into the water, drown them and strip them of valuables, which later caused Ōsawa Fusatarō to gain the nicknames of ‘Kanbō no kaizoku’ (監房の海賊 “Pirate of the prison”) and ‘Kaizoku Bōtarō’  (海賊 房太郎 “Pirate Bōtarō”), taking advantage of how the kanji 房 which in his name is read as ‘Fusa’ can also read as ‘Bō’ when meaning “prison cell”.

As Boutarou surpasses the current world record for longer immersion and deepest diving Heita considers escaping, hoping he dies as he thinks it would be impossible to accomplish such a feat, a clear hint he wasn’t with him out of his own will.

We go back to our trio and what Shiraishi knows and spurred him to make such a theory and that Asirpa was missing.

Asirpa was wrong into thinking no one could dive deep into lake Shikoku and find the lost gold as, among the samples of could dust Heita possessed, there’s one belonging to ‘Kaizoku-san’ (海賊さん “Mister Pirate) coming from Lake Shikoku.

While the images show us Boutarou finding the boat Noppera-bou used in the deep of the lake, Shiraishi explains this ‘Kaizoku-san’ is one of the escaping convicts, a particularly tough guy… and then Shiraishi shows, turning around the package containing the sample, that Heita had already identified the gold. It came from Toppu River (徳富川), Saru River (沙流川), Sorachi River (空知川) and Shiriuchi River (知内川).

Long story short, what Shiraishi is suggesting is not that they’ll change their modus operandi, but that they’ll hunt that guy by checking those rivers.

The last page is cut in two panels, one shows Sugimoto, with his eyes white the way they whiten when he thinks at murdering someone saying they could catch a pirate if they’ll go to those rivers and, in the other panel, the flashback of the face of Boutarou, smiling underwater as he had found Noppera-bou’s boat, hinting to how Sugimoto and Boutarou will likely fight.

It’s worth to note Sugimoto’s arm is still broken so there’s to wonder if we’ll have a time skip in which it’ll heal or Sugimoto will have to face Boutarou while being at disadvantage. Hijikata also might be converging on him so we’ll see.

It’s also noteworthy how, through all the chapter, Vasily was nowhere to be seen.

I don’t really get Noda’s plans for him.

I take Vasily and Ogata will have a shoot down, but so far Vasily merely seems a character forcefully added to the group just for this, his contribute to the plot too small to be noteworthy (yeah, Vasily did something useful here and there, but it could be easily removed by the plot with very minor changes without anyone noticing) so his presence seems mostly forced.

Anyway as I’m a visual person let’s analyze the situation through a map.

You can see the 4 rivers Toppu River (徳富川), Saru River (沙流川), Sorachi River (空知川) and Shiriuchi River (知内川) Heita noted down in blue. Shiriuchi river is pretty far from the others even if, notably, the gold fever in Hokkaido started there. My guess would be the hideout for the gold should have been located around one of the other three rivers as they’re closer and it would easier to bring the gold there.

Now the river closer to Tomakomai (苫小牧市) which you can see in red and where the Noppera-bou incident took place, is Saru river so maybe the previous hideout was there.

Lake Shikotsu (支笏湖), in pale blue, is not so far from Tomakomai.

Now I left always in blue Uryu river (雨竜川), where the Sugimoto’s group is, while I coloured in red the other cities/places which are relevant for us.

Otaru (小樽市), where Asirpa’s Kotan is but also where Hijikata’s group is and where Tsurumi’s headquarters are located, Barato (茨戸), the last place in which Tsurumi was seen, Noboribetsu (登別市), the place near which Ariko’s village is (Ariko’s father was one of the men who died in the Noppera-bou’s incident) and in which Toni Anji’s men were, Asahikawa (旭川市), where the 7th division headquarters are located, Kabato Prison (樺戸監獄), which is actually located in Tsukigata (月形町) and from which Pirate Boutarou’s men come, Kushiro (釧路市), near which Kirawus’ village is and, although I think by now it won’t be relevant anymore, Abashiri (網走市).

I’m not really sure if all this can turn to be useful but I think it’s a good thing to have an idea of where everything is.

Now… unless the next chapter will deal with Tsurumi, the transitional chapters might have ended and the next one could start the Boutarou’s arc. As Hijikata has just learnt he’s on the move, he might try to converge on him. Now… there’s to wonder if Heita managed to pass the info about where the gold could be to Boutarou. I’ll go and speculate he did so, which would mean Boutarou would try and inspect one of the rivers Heita mentioned. As Toppu river is the closest to Kabato prison and, conveniently to Uryu’s river (where Sugimoto is), there are chances Boutarou and Sugimoto will meet there. It’s hard to say if Hijikata’s group will manage to get there before or after Sugimoto. We don’t exactly know where they’re on Uryu river but the distance both groups have to go through to get on Toppu river could be similar and if Hijikata equips himself and his men with horses they could get there faster… though Sugimoto could try to use a boat to run down the river so… hard to say who’ll get there sooner.

Tsurumi is currently the closer to Kabato prison, so there are high chances if he was informed about Boutarou’s moves he might reach him before the other two.

We’ll see.

What’s noteworthy though is that although Boutarou seems a vicious criminal he’s also one with a working brain and with a group of them below him. I honestly doubt he can become the leader of another group chasing the gold, it’s more likely he’ll end up joining one of the pre-existent groups searching the gold… if he and his men survive the meeting with one of those over mentioned groups.

This chapter also remarks who’s the other person who has a working brain.

Shiraishi.

Although assumed to be dumb right from the start, Shiraishi is actually quite intelliget and the proof is he’s the ‘Escape King’ a guy capable to invent always new and succesfull ways to escape from prison.

The trick that caused people to think Shiraishi is dumb wasn’t Shiraishi inability to think but Shiraishi’s tendency not too worry too much about things, causing him to act in a dumb way most of the time.

When Shiraishi thinks things through he’s actually amazingly smart and Noda hinted at it in many subtle ways. In addition to the various escape plans Shiraishi came up with, we see how Shiraishi came up with the plan to locate Hijikata and how he managed to trick him by handing him a fake copy of a tattooed skin, how well he can collect info (he’s the one discovering about Nihei and Henmi), when Wakayama proposes betting with dices he’s the one wanting to check the dices, he is the one to realize the nonsense of Tsurumi’s plan (it would be better to share the gold,), how Sugimoto has a person he loves back at home, how Hijikata planned to use Asirpa to promote his war by having a newspaper write an article about her, how he understood in Abashiri Kiro might have harmed Inkarmat and Ogata might have shoot Sugimoto, how Kiro lied to them, how Asirpa grew through her travel in Karafuto and what she planned to do when she escaped and how they do need a plan if they want to take part to the gold hunt.

While Sugimoto was just ‘let’s wait for Hijikata and Tsurumi to argue and then snatch the skins from them’ Shiraishi went and thought up to a strategy they could put into action.

Although Shiraishi can still act silly and careless, he’s starting to think things more and more, and proving he has a fine brain, a brain fine enough he could be a strategist.

Really, Shiraishi is awesome! I can’t wait what he’ll do next!

Epic. Also Reigen is badass bc as ridiculous a character he is, with dubious morals and a lying habit, he is a good person overall and also would die for his loved ones. And idk how he can get away with everything tbh, my mind explodes anytime he twists words and ends up winning arguments, like sir... thats a mad skill right there

My thoughts: they are dumbasses in LOVE

What makes me happy about them: their interactions overall are priceless, they balance each other a lot and give each other a sense of purpose and stability. Also, i project a little on serizawa and reigen is... y’know.... a flamboyant kind of dude.... which is my type, so.....

What makes me sad about them: the angst when thinking reigen could doubt his feelings or actions around serizawa, worrying over he isnt manipulating him into thinking he is in love, and serizawa thinking he isnt enough for reigen bc he is too nervous about not having enough relationship experience.....

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: when they picture them realizing they have feelings for each other bc they are jealous thinking they could be dating other ppl. I am polyamorous so i Do Not vibe with this trope At All

Things I look for in fanfic: pining... longing.... yearning.... then kiss... fluff.... thats enough to make me cry tbh

They keep their contact with Shigeo and the rest of the kids and go on trips with them often. They see them grow up and become good people that go after their dreams, and are there for them if they have any trouble or are going though a rough patch.

How I feel about this character: I feel like i have to protect him, but i guess he wouldnt accept it xd it makes me sad he has such an awful dad, and that it will probably lead to suffering to him as he grows up, bc that kind of abuse can really fuck you up, specially when you have to act like an adult to your parents at such a young age

Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: ritsu! they just click together, and i love how their relationship is depicted as super funny by other people. They are best friends first and over all, but also are in love.

My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: Its more of a headcanon but with Serizawa! I think he would get protective of Shou and try to check up on him from time to time, but Shou would do the same for him bc he is worried at how his dad treated him and the thing he said the last time they saw him. But actually they are projecting their own need to be protected on the other, so it ends up being kinda messy, but then they become friends and are able to laugh and do other stuff that doesnt include talking about Shou’s dad and Claw

My unpopular opinion about this character: i refer to him as redhead goku instead of jonny test xd

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: that his feelings about his dad were explored more deeply, and also the thing i said before about Serizawa, i think that would have been spot on and could be a character development thing for both

Cyborg 009 Manga - Hepatica Symphony, Pharaoh Virus, Modern Narcissus, The Seven Children, Invisible Strings, and Cosmo Child

Hepatica Symphony

-Well that was kinda beautiful and kinda stupid at the same time. It starts out having nothing to do with the cyborgs and then Albert just randomly shows up at the end, having a very thin tie to the main filler character. I feel like they already did this with 007 and his random old friend. Both happened on a snowy mountain too. Running out of plot lines here. 

-So...004 saved a woman from an avalanche by...shooting at snow? Like...what? The art didn’t make it clear how that works at all but okay

-It was interesting seeing Albert do something gentle for once (playing the piano). The close up of his hand definitely got me in the feels

Pharaoh Virus

-This played very similarly to the anime episode but with less action. Again I appreciated the little tidbits of history, it kinda felt like reading an Ancient Egypt kids book you’d get from the library

-I don’t really get how they went from panicking about the spread of the virus to being fine just cuz they found a single flower. Pretty sure the world’s still in danger but okay...

-Pretty timely read with the coronavirus going on lol. I learned the word for “pandemic,” “contagious disease,” and “to spread germs.” Handy!

-Why the heck did that professor’s gravestone say he only lived like 4 years? Misprint? 

-This chapter and the last one were flower centric. Either they published it that way to be clever or Ishinomori was a in a big flower mood lol 

Modern Narcissus 

-Honestly I didn’t really like this chapter. It didn’t have enough substance it was basically just Francoise telling a girl that it’s okay to have freckles lmao

-Not really sure how Francoise ended up at a fashion shoot in the first place...

-It’s mostly just cuz my Japanese isn’t up to snuff but I didn’t understand the comparison to the Narcissus myth. I thought that was supposed to be a morality fable about how vanity’s bad but the moral of this story was to love yourself?? Maybe they were trying to distinguish between obsessing over superficial beauty and accepting your true self? Let’s go with that...

-The cameraman telling them to go for a “lesbian” look was pretty gross...

The Seven Children

-WTF!? What is this random pro-life propaganda doing in my cyborg manga??? I am u n c o m f o r t a b l e...

-Seriously, this was so weird. The plot was basically 001 and 003 eavesdropping on a bunch of doctors saying that a multi-birth was dangerous and they’d have to kill the weaker babies. Francoise gives this speech about “life is a privilege! All lives are sacred under God” blah blah blah and then there’s a bunch of Christian imagery everywhere. Isn’t this a shounen manga...?

-I mean...freedom of speech and all that but just...wha??? This seriously felt like something they’d hand out to kids in church.

Invisible Strings

-Random Pinocchio reference! This was interesting to see because I know manga was originally very Disney-influenced. (I know Disney didn’t invent Pinocchio but it would be the most recognized depiction). 

-Am I supposed to take the whole chapter as a daydream Gilmore had? I thought the metaphor was kind of clever but overall I’m not really sure what the message was. Does Gilmore see the cyborgs as his kids and he doesn’t want to lose them? If so, awwwwe <3

Cosmo Child

-Okay, strapping in for a long arc. The first chapter was really short tho. I liked that it wasn’t super dialogue heavy. The art seemed more detailed and snappy than usual.

-This was adapted into a two parter in the Cyborg Soldier series. I remember it feeling pretty rushed and awkward so hopefully it will be better in its original form. 

-lol @ the panel of all of the Americans and Jet just pointing at the space colony. I’m just picturing some disaster happen in NYC and instead of running away everyone just points at it.

-006 calls their uniforms “costumes” which I found kind of funny. Is there a typical word to for superhero/sentai units’ clothes? Suits? Costumes just make it sound like they’re playing make believe lol 

-Another hilarious panel in this arc is Geronimo being tractor beamed into the space ship. Mostly because of his stiff body/expression lol 

-This really reminds me of the plot of the Cyborg 009 “Simple Series” game. Flying saucers and all of the cyborgs are separated at the beginning. Very similar vibes...

-So they randomly decided to make this a Jet-focused arc in the anime but it’s not like that at all in the manga, he barely shows up. 004 plays his role but really the focus is mostly just on the alien children, not on any specific cyborgs

-Francoise gets all deep at the end like “Ohhh the perils of humanity have been passed on to these innocent children.” Half of me thinks it was nice to add that extra layer to the story but the other half of me is rolling my eyes. 

-I have mixed feelings about this arc. It was nice to have a more action-based story but it feels really out of place. Other than the 80s movie this series doesn’t have a lot of canon aliens and they’re just treated like they’re completely normal here. Then there’s the whole forced bit about why the children can’t kill...I dunno it’s kind of clunky. Also 004 pointing his ray gun at them seemed pretty un-hero-like...

when or if I started shipping it: Before I even joined the fandom. I watched HTTYD2 on my dad’s phone while him and my mom were shopping, and I fell in love with the Itchy Armpit scene. 

my thoughts: they can be super soft, super angsty, super badass, anything. i wish astrid had more character than to be hiccup’s girlfriend, but otherwise in-universe i truly think hiccup and astrid are a good fit for each other.

What makes me happy about them: idk???? lately i’ve been so against the nerdy guy badass chick trope, but hiccstrid’s always had my heart. it’s the communication, i guess. the commitment. the teasing. they’re best friends first and foremost and i adore that.

What makes me sad about them: Their entire relationship is written based around Astrid supporting Hiccup.

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: a lot of times, since hiccup is the underdog, astrid has to go through like...rounds of morality development to be good enough for him and he doesn’t have to change for her (it’s not overwhelming, but it’s common)

Things I look for in fanfic: Angst. That’s like...three fourths why I love fics like Persephone and Prince Hiccup The Bachelor. 

My kinks: I forgot I can’t answer this with “i’m a minor antis come save me” and can actually answer it now, but, gotta be honest...I haven’t read that much hiccstrid smut, so i’m gonna be basic and say that sex is absolutely a competition with these two.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Astrid with Heather or Eret, Hiccup with Ruffnut

My happily ever after for them: The one in the movie is good, I’d like to imagine that after they retire they go explore the world again.

How I feel about this character: Absolutely hate her guts. lol. She’s a girl who was given half her personality by fanon, but her potential is so fucking incredible and it’s a damn shame that no one took advantage of that. She’s petty and angry and beautiful and talented and she loves her home and doesn’t deserve half the crap she puts up with.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Hiccup, Heather, Eret, Ruffnut, Snotlout - really, everyone. Even the villains.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: TOOOTHLESSSS. STORMFLY. Basically, again - everyone.

My unpopular opinion about this character: Her beating up Hiccup was absolutely uncalled for and she deserved to be shamed for it (which I think she is out-of-universe but not in-universe and that’s a whole other post)

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Any. Kind. Of. Story. Arc. Without. Hiccup.

016  :   talk   about   a   headcanon   you   have   for   your   muse  .    had her first pet at an age somewhat younger than ten  .  maybe a rabbit  .  when it died she didn’t really feel much  .  she buried it not long after it passed , like cleaning up a mess  .  her parents were never home enough to notice her pet was missing , or even remember she had one  .  until they caught her digging up rabbit bones on one of their very , very few days off  .  it was probably her father  who noticed ,  &  felt a certain way about it  ( the way she calmly explained what happened  /  what she was doing not helping )  to the point of having thoughts of the potential his daughter might need psychiatric help some day  .  he doesn’t voice this  .  he doesn’t want to have the conversation with his wife yet  .
