pssst can i please ask you to spoiler the raven baby reveal to me...?
So the summary of X-Men Blue: Origins (2023) Mystique is wandering around New York acting crazy and mumbling about her lost baby, Kurt catches up with her and tries to talk her into calming down.
Kurt gives Raven his sword which breaks the mental barriers and it's revealed that while Raven was married to Baron Wagner, she and Irene were an on again, off again, couple who would hook up with other people whenever it helped their goals.
Raven had hired Irene to be the housemaid so she could stay close while Raven was married to Wagner, using his money/influence as they wanted and having a torrid love affair with Irene in private. Azazel shows up and Irene encouraged Raven to have an affair with him as well, because she had visions of the future.
Basically Irene wanted a love child with Raven, but needed Azazel to believe he was the father because she knew that unless Kurt was set on a path to be his constant foe/destroyer of his plans then Azazel would rise to power.
Irene's visions aren't something she can stop and she lives her life according to how to bring about her visions but she doesn't tell Raven any of this until 5 years after Kurt's birth. So she and Raven have a child, Kurt, and from my understanding of the reading, Mystique can copy the genes down to a molecular level and took the gene patterns from Azazel and Baron Wagner and impregnated Irene. So Kurt doesn't have 2 parents, he has 4, well 5 including Margali Szardos who was his adopted mom. Kurt is now battling for the #1 spot for "most parents and most confusing parental origin in comics" and he's up against the Maximoff twins who have gone through 3 sets of parents.
Back to the story, Raven dumps Azazel who is such a pathetic loser, I love that lol. Raven fakes being pregnant by shapeshifting to look like she is pregnant as the months go by. Baron Wagner discovers his wife's affairs, and being the homophobe he is, is stabbed by Raven who then spends the next few months switching between forms to make people believe that the Baron and his wife are both still around, waiting until Irene gives birth. I'm guessing because Raven intended to use the Baron's money/pretending to be him so she and Irene could live in comfort or until they wanted to move on.
Irene is the one who gives birth to Kurt, and Raven overcome with joy/love for Kurt doesn't want his first sight of her to be human so she reveals herself.
The townspeople are of course in an uproar, want to kill the demon woman and her demon child, Irene tells Raven to get to safety and that she would be ok, but Raven fears for Irene so she leaves Kurt under a tree and rushes back to kill the people who would hurt her wife and discovers Irene is missing, she runs back to find Kurt and he's gone too.
Five years pass and she finds Irene again, this time watching a young Rogue, Irene reveals everything to Raven, the Azazel vision, Irene needed Kurt to be raised as an outcast etc. Raven and Irene both know they are in a toxic relationship, but they love each other too much so they went to the one man who can make everything worse, Charles Xavier. Of course Xavier does what he does best, erases people's memories and implants new ones.
So now Kurt has 2 deadbeat mutant moms, 1 deadbeat demonic mutant father, 1 dead human father, and 1 adopted mother and they all give him the most drama & trauma that you will ever see in comics! Love wins (?)
I am currently taking donations to hire Kurt a therapist (who isn't Professor X), save an elf's sanity and donate /jk
I will say that this origin, though very messy, does at least confirm that Irene is just as messy/toxic as Raven, so I hope they continue to be totally bad for each other and 100% in love, which is very refreshing to see in wlw couples and I really hope they do not try to soften their edges, especially Raven's, I do not want a "good mother Raven", but time will tell. Also finally Kurt is Baron Wagner's son technically due to partially copied genetics so it finally makes sense for why Kurt has the Wagner last name, which is something that always bugged me, because imo if he had zero connection to the Baron then he wouldn't have the Wagner last name. Also this doesn't invalidate the Azazel retcon from before because again technically Azazel believes Kurt is his son, and Kurt does have partially copied genetics from Azazel.
I think it was a really tough balancing act to have to write, I wish it could have been written a bit better or the thoughts of Rogue actually being Irene/Raven's daughter would have worked better. Like imagine if Raven and Irene were both pregnant, Irene had Rogue and Raven had Nightcrawler or Irene had them both as twins, then they wouldn't just be foster/adopted siblings but also bio siblings, and it could have opened up the door for more stories involving them as brother and sister trying to deal with their mothers. Marvel constantly ignores the potential for Rogue and Kurt's sibling dynamic and I wish we got more of it in the comics. I get that the writer was trying to keep to the old canon while creating the new canon and using the original plan for Kurt's parentage, so while I feel it's way too complicated this is also comics where complicated plots and retcons have been a long standing tradition meant to torment us readers.

@nightfaith is a MONSTER and sent me a drabble prompt bc i asked for them //
I regret to inform you that Kurt Wagner has passed away. (For TJ)
All morning, Talia had been having flashes of something she couldn't quite put a finger on. She'd be going through her usual routine, and then get hit by a wave of undefinable dread that made her scalp crawl and her hands stutter in whatever they were doing. She'd always possessed a little psychic talent, the smallest ability to peek beyond the veil, but it had only ever really been used for spatial awareness and the occasional need for a half-dececent conduit for a Cerebro uplink. She'd never experienced feeling someone else's emotions, never heard a thought that wasn't her own. Never had premonitions.
Later, she would muse bitterly, never say never.
At least someone came to her in person, though the fact that the news came from a complete stranger only added to the pain. She was just getting started on her morning exercises when the knock came to the door. She'd been staying in a little flat in -- where else? -- the little hamlet of Penzance, working off and on with Excalibur since her stroke recovery was still somewhat coming along. Weird, though… Betsy or Rachel always gave her a little nudge when they were coming over, Wisdom always called, and Brian and Meggan had only visited during her little housewarming party -- and Kurt would text, then simply appear. She didn't get visitors…
It was a man in a suit. Never a good sign. She invited him in, but he refused, instead giving her a small envelope and then…
she didn't remember hitting the ground, but the next thing she knew, she had both Rachel and Betsy hovering over her, the redhead dabbing a damp cloth on her brow while her partner fussed in TJ's little kitchen to make tea. TJ only had to look at them to know that no matter how much she wished, it had to be true… Rachel's expression was tight, the static coming from her mind tinged with sorrow and impotent rage. Betsy kept wiping her cheeks. They were suddenly both staring at her, and it took a moment to realize that the noise she was hearing -- the broken, anguished wail -- was coming from her.
Arms went around her. Crushed between Rachel and Betsy, she screamed, railed against a world that had, once again, stolen everything from her…
The next few days were a blur. Her apartment became the impromptu nerve center for funeral planning, and if it weren't for a neverending revolving door of visitors, she'd have collapsed further in on herself than she already was. Someone was always with her; usually either Rachel or Betsy, but Kitty and Rogue had flown in and basically set up shop on her couch, half of the X-Men were staying down at the lighthouse, and Alison had put her tour on hold to get there in time. Kitty had sort of taken the lead in the plans, which had actually started to bother TJ -- she was working up the courage to talk to her about it, when the door opened for another visitor.
She didn't see him coming, but as soon as she smelled cigar smoke, she utterly broke, arms going around the Canuck's neck and clinging tightly. She didn't even know that Logan knew about her -- but one world was just like any other, one of those constants being that Kurt and Logan had been as close as brothers. If anyone could bolster her in this hour, it'd be him.
"S'alright, darlin'," he murmured, and God, the utter desolation in his voice broke her heart all over again.
"No it's not," she replied in a thin whisper. "It's never gonna be okay."
He didn't bother to argue.
What he did do was back her up when she insisted that Kurt be buried with his family -- with Margali and Stefan and Jimaine, the family who had taken him in and loved him as their own, awkward history notwithstanding. There was almost an argument, the X-Men wanted him brought back to Westchester, and Excalibur insisted on a place of honor in Westminster Abbey -- but she stuck to her guns, and Logan, hand on her shoulder, supported her. He belonged with family.
It also meant the burial couldn't be attended by too many people. The wake held at Braddock Manor, however…
She'd never seen so many. Never knew how many people whose lives he'd touched. Superheroes from around the world, mutants and not, Avengers, X-Men… Mystique and Destiny, under watch to be on their best behavior. As if they'd sully his memory, they insisted. Worse things have happened, they were reminded. Much as she tried to hold it together, TJ quickly became overwhelmed and slipped out, looking for a place to clear her head. Once again the scent of cigar smoke hit her and she followed it like a siren's call.
Out near the shore Logan was silhouetted by the sunset, a bottle in one hand and a chain in the other. He didn't look at her as she stepped up next to him, but held the bottle out. She took it, took a swig -- handed the bottle back gasping as the whiskey burned its way down her throat.
"Ain't fair." His thumb was working lightly over the chain in his hand -- or rather, the thick gold cross that it was strung on. "Of all people. Of all of us who wear the damn uniform, it shouldn't'a been him."
"They -- they said he went down fighting. Fighting like hell." She choked, pressing a hand to her mouth as tears welled up again. "I should've been there, I --"
She broke off as Logan's arm wound around her shoulders. "Wouldn't'a done any good, darlin'. We'd'a just been puttin' you in the ground too."
"Would that be so bad?"
"Only if ya wanna make him cry up in Heaven," came a voice from behind them; Rogue stepped up on TJ's other side, her own gloved arm winding over Logan's. "Ah don't know ya that well, li'l bit, but what Ah do know was how proud he was to call you his daughter."
"She's right. Never heard him brag about anythin' so much."
"He told you all that about me?" she asked, sniffling. "I -- I never wanted to intrude on your lives, I'm not yours, I don't belong here --"
"I get along just fine." Suddenly Rachel was also there. And Betsy. And Kitty, and Ororo, Jean, Scott, … TJ found herself in the center of a bona fide X-Men group hug, and just about the time she started to feel really stifled, they released her, so that Logan was just holding her by the shoulders.
"You understand, don't ya?" Rogue said, leaning against Logan's shoulder. "You're never gonna be alone. As long as the people who loved him are around, we'll be your family."
"Always were," Logan agreed. "All ya ever had to do was ask."
She was sobbing again, ugly and undignified, but somehow it was so much more comforting to be doing it into the shoulder of the man who'd been like a second father to her growing up, who she'd been so scared to reach out to because she didn't want to assume anything. Times would be tough moving forward, she'd miss Kurt in a way that felt like a part of her heart had been cut out -- but she wasn't alone. Wasn't the only one who would miss him so bitterly.

Hhh I don't like the new origin story personally. It's supposed to explain everything, make complete sense and be all in the feels but... It doesn't ? At all ?? At least not for me.
The timeline is now more broken from all the continuity errors : Nightcrawler's still officially 30-35 years old while Destiny is stated to be born in the 1850's-1860's cuz the writers really hammered in on the "Irene Adler from Sherlock Holmes" shtick. We got to see her in Immortal X-Men post WWII looking her age, as in old with white hair and wrinkles, cuz she doesn't slowly age like Mystique at all (it's one of the most pivotal part about their dynamic and relationship of Immortal vs Mortal), so ? Was Nightcrawler born before both WW ?? When Margali herself wasn't even around yet since her father was a young soldier still during the wars (who am I kidding the writer for this comic hates Margali judging by how he straight up killed her in his last one shot) ??? Destiny shouldn't look or be younger than 90 years old by the time Kurt was born (he was 21 in the 1980 annual) so why is the comic acting like she's still in her 20's-40's when she supposedly had him ??
Nightcrawler is supposed to be made from like what ? 50% of Destiny's DNA (unaltered and full on hers) + 30% of Mystique's + 10% of Baron Wagner's (an old infertile human...) + 10% of Azazel's ? Okay so why the H did he end up looking like a (+)70% Azazel baby when none of his other children ended up like that with the usual 50% ratio ??? From all his powers coming from him (because they retconned the way Mystique's were and always worked meaning Kurt doesn't actually have anything from her on that aspect), his appearance both as a mutant and when depowered (Some of Azazel's kids are just blue and depowered Nightcrawler is the human disguise Azazel uses without a beard...), his daughter TJ having a retractable tail like Azazel to Sinister's chimera experiments (splicing different mutants's DNA together to make a new one) which had Kurt's DNA mixed with two other mutants (Rachael and Ajax) resulting in Cardinal, who just looks like Azazel with red hair and red eyes, there's a fundamental lack of any "Destiny" in him. It doesn't help that Sinister (guy who makes entire genealogical trees of everyone as a flex) now has a longtime history of going against Destiny so you bet your ass he would have ran his DNA bank computer looking for any descendants of hers, saw a good 50% on Kurt and exploited that ratio to the ground for his splicing experiments. (Kurt is now the og spliced baby too)
And like we really lost something important here in the tone. Because no matter how you looked at the one from Lobdell or the one from Austen (a continuation of and addition to Lobdell's technically), there was a deep layer of tragedy to Nightcrawler's origins and you couldn't help asking yourself if things couldn't have been different for both Mystique and him if she wasn't in such a precarious situation to begin with when she had him (knew this would have happened at all) or if she just tried harder to keep him. That's why the Age of Apocalypse version of them is interesting, this is why the What-if where she raised him from birth with Destiny and Rogue was good addition. It showed that there WAS an alternative... But it wasn't in the cards he got. It was beyond either his or Mystique's control and it was just the usual uncertainty of life being at play. You felt bad for Kurt and even sympathetic for Mystique because she was somewhat a victim of circumstances. It was a tragedy because life back then was unpredictable for both of them
Not here. Mystique and Destiny planned everything, worked years for it to go exactly as intended, went to very specific terrible people for it, picked exactly what they wanted for Nightcrawler (the "child they always wanted") to look like... And on the first notice/freak ass future vision, just unceremoniously abandoned him. After all of that. Did Destiny just never check for the immediate future of them both raising the baby during the entire pregnancy ? Or noticed how her diaries never mentioned him once but did for Rogue many many times ? Then, they felt SO guilty about it that, instead of trying to make the life they forced upon him be slightly better in any way shape or form, they chose to FORGET about it to live their current lives with this adoptive daughter of theirs in peace of mind. Mystique, for some wtf reason, decided to keep the knowledge of her biological ties to Nightcrawler and has since then used it against him whenever. Destiny, the one who wanted this kid in the first place and was the reason he was suddenly abandoned because they just "could never ever possibly raise him due to VISION" (*points to the What-if story where they did raise him and she was pretty much the reason why Kurt died because she did jack and didn't even care that he died*), chose to erase everything. Gg to the one who started it all.
Nightcrawler's origins isn't a tragic story anymore. It's a comedy : the set up ? payoff ? All there. The punchline? The writer wants us to sympathize with Mystique and Destiny in these new origins like the other ones did for Mystique. They want us to sympathize with selfish lazy cowards, who've lived consequence free of the child abandonment they committed and even abandoned said child again in that weird event with Sinister this year, all in a heartbeat. Because Mystique suddenly remembered that she "cared" since that kid was related to her lover... Instead of caring because he was HER KID even with the memory erasure (that factor never stopped her from raising and loving him in those other realities)
So Kurt now : 1) is the closest thing to an IVF baby genetically profiled to be a certain way by the same parents who abandoned him at birth in a place where he was eventually found... Near death. 2) has not one, not two, but 3 irredeemable deadbeat parents (+ one straight up dead) and we now have to like two of them every time they'll get shoved into any stories that includes him (yes from the way this one-shot ended, he's an inclusion, not a main character) and 3) has no actual free will of his own. His argument with Azazel about how much fate/destiny was at play in Kurt's life when they had their fight in Heaven? Azazel was right. It's just that Nightcrawler's life was under someone else's thumb than his, Mystique and Destiny from the very start sure but also Charles since he apparently knew everything ALL ALONG being the one who erased their memories when they asked him to... The very guy that rescued Kurt from a mob, got him in the X-Men, had him face these two ladies time and time again, was there when he wanted to investigate Mystique after she name dropped Margali (never got answered still) and was his confident after the whole Azazel debacle. That guy
I just can't, man
Well yeah but to be fair Kurt's age has always been a problem given that he was originally written to be born just a few years after WWII. Best resolution I have for this problem with his age that I am amazed isn't official canon yet is just make him one of the many ageless mutants, I don't see WHY that's out of the question given Azazel and Mystique's nature.
lol wow gotta love how much contempt X-men writers have for Margali, its not enough to make her a Supervillain they also have to kill her off whenever they get the chance, she's only the only remotely healthy parental relationship Kurt has had with a person who is still alive why even try to write her properly?
The retcon with how he's made is so messy, its like okay they want to make it so Mystique and Destiny are his parents but then they realised they can't exactly just remove Azazel from the picture so now they had to make a version of having their cake and eating it too. So Mystique and Azazel had a baby together but then Mystique put that baby into Destiny. That's how I understand it, I know apparently they tried to factor Baron Wagner into it when its just like wow damn who was even asking for that irrelevant character to be involved? The actual origin makes little sense given that Kurt as you said inherited nothing from Destiny (almost as if her being his mother was a stupid idea or something!)
But you are right now instead of it being a love affair between Azazel and Mystique that ended up exposing her as a mutant due to a mutant child and having her run out of town. Now its some really convoluted origin to Nightcrawler, him being a child of like 3 parental figures and apparently of the 3 only Azazel even remotely cared about him. Which is just you know really amazing writing for all the people who demanded Mystique and Destiny be both his parents lol great job now they both look like even worse parents given they had a kid together and they opted to abandon him for no real reason.
See when it was Mystique on the run it at least made some kind of sense she abandoned him in a Moses basket as her life was too dangerous to involve a baby in and she had no one else with her at the time, now its just like "oh yeah you know me and my partner already had an adopted child but we also had a biological one that we gave up for no reason". It's also funny how Destiny wanted this child but then she doesn't have like any interaction with him or concern over his well being at all in all her years of existing as a character.
I don't like this origin much either as it really does play more like a comedic parody of comic origins than anything actually serious, but the one good thing about it is the hardcore Destiny fans didn't get it their way either.

You once got an ask about Margali Szardos in here, right? There's a cover variant of Legion of X 9 that has her on it so she might be coming in nightcrawler's solo... Tho last time I checked she was, like, super dead and I haven't seen her get resurrected at any point? (not even through the mutant's process which I don't think would even work for her since they don't have her mind file or even DNA) so that's another retcon to add to the list.
Aww look at her! This is a seriously awesome cover, thank you for telling me that this even exists! While I don't pay attention to them very much, variant covers are always super cool, even if the comic they're covering doesn't reference what's actually happening xD
I don't really want to theorize too much because I don't know a lot about Szardos' character in modern comics... but it would be cool to see her come back and help the Krakoans with a magical fix. Or at least see Kurt. He could use some family support😭

XM:EVO kids with my own style! as those who have followed me for a while know i always try to make things just sliiightly 1980s/90s lmao. full rambling below the cut but some of it i’ve said before in previous fanarts:
EVO’s version of kurt weirdly doesn’t hint at his circus upbringing despite it being a major part of his character across other canon so this is re-instated. clothing-wise i loved the XM:A bright red jacket and i think given his circus background and flamboyant attention-seeking personality he would wear some jazzy things. accessories include the image-inducer watch (boo) and a friendship bracelet from kitty.
kitty in EVO is supposed to be a cute girl but really smart. i wanted to make her look a bit geekier with the glasses and scrunchie. build-wise she’s the shortest and skinniest of the girls, and also the youngest (at least of the core group.) i like the pastel vibe of her EVO civvies, so i took that to an 11 with lilac tights under socks. you’re likely to see her in cute skirts and t-shirts, cosy cardigans... and cat-eye glasses, of course!
i like rogue’s EVO look for its early-2000s goth aesthetic but i always thought her wearing a mesh top and gloves with an open back to just be a bit dangerous because what if one of the other kids bumps into her lmao. i think a grunge style suits her prickly personality and i also wanted to make her a bit androgynous, and kind of zendaya-esque as well.
EVO’s jean has this kim possible cargo-pants thing going on which i’ve swapped for a preppy style - kitty’s look is similar (in like a older sister/younger sister way) but jean is more confident (more bare skin on show). however she wears her hair just slightly falling over her face (in the like, i’m still just a little self-conscious about something i don’t talk about kinda way) i took the stripey top from her X:MA look, gave her sneakers since she’s still a practical girl and isn’t going to school in heels.
same as with jean i took a lot of movie inspo for scott, mostly james marsden, who by the way is a particularly iconic version of scott. he loves boybands. he has that teen heartthrob appeal. my scott is the kinda guy who’s so entrenched in his role as big brother that his face looks permanently worried. he’s in no way flashy with his fashion which is just the tragic truth of many straight boys.
for evan just full basketball outfit, because it let him be more colourful. i’ve said it before but since he’s got the same powers as marrow i gave him pink hair to add more of a visual link between him and that character. i’ve essentially turned him into a gay icon? which is what he deserves.
BONUS: image inducer kurt. i’d say in this universe kurt would have had some input in how his disguise looks - he asked to look like the mother who raised him (margali szardos). blue eyes match his real skin and the shoes are blue to hint at his feet, in the summer he’d wear sandals (but i hate drawing sandals lmao.)

Aren't Manouches mostly Catholic though ? I thought Romani communities mostly adopted the dominant religions of the land they settled on.
That’s isn’t universally true, but it is a fair assumption to make. In some cases, it’s more of an assimilation scenario, and a lot of those communities have also preserved certain traditions and beliefs while finding ways to adapt them to their surroundings. All of which is to say that, like most things, its complicated.
If you want a counter example, my family lives in France and are not, to my knowledge, Christian-- at least not my immediate relatives.
Anyways, I’m not an expert on Nightcrawler continuity, but I’m pretty sure that Kurt’s religious faith developed after he left the circus and was given sanctuary in Father Wagner’s church. He didn’t get it from Margali, and I’m not comfortable projecting Christian identity onto a marginalized character if it doesn’t exist in canon.

Margali? Yes. The circus? Unlikely. They never showed much of his life didn't they? He's the only character besides Magneto X-23 and Logan who got a flashback and even then it's pretty much nothing. We vaguely know what happened with Mystique and from his adoption? It's everyone's game. Sure he has two parents with jobs at a German village but maybe Kurt made the conscious decision to join a circus which could've happened between the only "memory" we have and the X-Men. Would explain his stunts
Lemme preface by saying I still love this show. It’s charming and cheesy and I grew up watching it in parts on youtube bc I guess that’s how it be sometimes.
But I’m allowed to be critical of something I love. This got long so RANT UNDER THE CUT!! Ily plz don’t be mad at me I’m just salty *wheeze*
Okay so what you described is at least part of my headcanon (where his abilities are tied slightly less to his mutation and more to his life in a circus BC I’M KEEPING IT, DANGIT)
But my brain sees this ↓↓↓
and goes
Wow thems sure are some random whitebread-ass folks.
The main problem that I have is that they retconned Margali as his mother, not to mention what they did to his sibling(s).
In the episode talking about his adoptive parents we learn a few things. A.) Magneto experimented on him??? B.) Found by these two random farmers who were apparently nice C.) Mystique is his birth mother (Even though they try to be like “But is she though?” Yes she is stfu Evolution) Nothing else, my dude.
Other people got wholeass episodes and shit about their past. We get to see Kitty’s parents, we get to learn about LOGAN’S backstory and he’s nOT EVEN A PART OF THE MAIN CAST OF STUDENTS??? Dude we get backstory for fuckin Tabitha. (As a note I honestly kinda love Tabby)
We get Storm’s past (Even though it Definitely Did Not Age Well)
We get Wanda and Pietro’s pasts and their interactions
We get wholeass arcs for other characters so why not Kurt???
One of the things in Evolution about Kurt is like “Oh yeah he’s dexterous bc of his mutation” which I mean ok I guess but also circus boy please. With how much of a cute showoff he is in the show I don’t see why he wouldn’t mention it. They had a BUNCH of opportunities for him to comment about his life in that oh-so-present early 2ks style of exposition via cheesy terrible dialogue.
Opportunity 1: Literally when we first meet him and he talks about himself a little
Op 2: Any time someone talks about his abilities around him
Op 3: The episode that’s literally about his backstory/family
Op 4: The Entire Survival Camp Episode
Op 5: JUST. ANYWHERE??? HE’S A LOUDMOUTH. THAT’S LIKE HALF HIS CHARACTER IN EVOLUTION
The weirder thing is that they DO INCLUDE MARGALI. AND SHE’S A WEIRD HOUSEWIFE. AND THEY STILL HAVE AMANDA AS KURT’S LOVE INTEREST? Maybe it was them trying to keep a ‘canon’ ship while making it less awkward??? But Why Though?? I don’t get it? They could have given them different names. They didn’t HAVE to use Amanda and Margali. Plus she’s still not a single mother and idk why that bothers me but it does. I don’t think they even mention Stephan...
Basically I’m salty that they neglected my favorite boy in the show and erased who Margali was. AND they didn’t even elaborate on his new backstory. You can’t just mulligan a wholeass backstory and then not explore the new shit you barely made up.
I’m so sorry this got long oh god please don’t yell at me--

Why am I drawn to them?! I found another one to rescue, but this time I realized it before I got in too deep.
14 Signs You're Dealing With A Narcissist
Dr. Margalis Fjelstad
When it comes to determining whether someone you know is a narcissist, most people make it more complicated than it needs to be. I use the duck test—that is, if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it probably is a duck. There are no physical blood tests, MRIs, or exact determinations that can identify narcissism. Even therapists have to go on their observations of the behavior, attitudes, and reactions that a person presents to determine narcissism.
What makes it simple is the fact that we know exactly what a narcissist looks like. Below, I've listed all the symptoms and behaviors you should look for. Keep in mind that not all of these have to be present to make a determination of narcissism. According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, which therapists use as a guide, a person needs to exhibit only 55 percent of the identified characteristics to be considered narcissistic. The list I've made here is descriptive, so you can get a more in-depth picture of a narcissist’s common behaviors.
1. Superiority and entitlement
The world of the narcissist is all about good/bad, superior/inferior, and right/wrong. There is a definite hierarchy, with the narcissist at the top—which is the only place he feels safe. Narcissists have to be the best, the most right, and the most competent; do everything their way; own everything; and control everyone. Interestingly enough, narcissists can also get that superior feeling by being the worst; the most wrong; or the most ill, upset, or injured for a period of time. Then they feel entitled to receive soothing concern and recompense and even the right to hurt you or demand apologies to “make things even.”
2. Exaggerated need for attention and validation
Narcissists need constant attention—even following you around the house, asking you to find things, or constantly saying something to grab your attention. Validation for a narcissist counts only if it comes from others. Even then, it doesn’t count for much. A narcissist’s need for validation is like a funnel. You pour in positive, supportive words, and they just flow out the other end and are gone. No matter how much you tell narcissists you love them, admire them, or approve of them, they never feel it’s enough—because deep down they don’t believe anyone can love them. Despite all their self-absorbed, grandiose bragging, narcissists are actually very insecure and fearful of not measuring up. They constantly try to elicit praise and approval from others to shore up their fragile egos, but no matter how much they’re given, they always want more.
3. Perfectionism
Narcissists have an extremely high need for everything to be perfect. They believe they should be perfect, you should be perfect, events should happen exactly as expected, and life should play out precisely as they envision it. This is an excruciatingly impossible demand, which results in the narcissist feeling dissatisfied and miserable much of the time. The demand for perfection leads the narcissist to complain and be constantly dissatisfied.
4. Great need for control
Since narcissists are continually disappointed with the imperfect way life unfolds, they want to do as much as possible to control it and mold it to their liking. They want and demand to be in control, and their sense of entitlement makes it seem logical to them that they should be in control—of everything. Narcissists always have a story line in mind about what each “character” in their interaction should be saying and doing. When you don’t behave as expected, they become quite upset and unsettled. They don’t know what to expect next, because you’re off script. They demand that you say and do exactly what they have in mind so they can reach their desired conclusion. You are a character in their internal play, not a real person with your own thoughts and feelings.
5. Lack of responsibility—blaming and deflecting
Although narcissists want to be in control, they never want to be responsible for the results—unless, of course, everything goes exactly their way and their desired result occurs. When things don’t go according to their plan or they feel criticized or less than perfect, the narcissist places all the blame and responsibility on you. It has to be someone else’s fault. Sometimes that blame is generalized—all police, all bosses, all teachers, all Democrats, and so on. At other times the narcissist picks a particular person or rule to blame—his mother, the judge, or laws that limit what he wants to do. Most often, however, the narcissist blames the one person who is the most emotionally close, most attached, loyal, and loving in his life—you. To maintain the façade of perfection, narcissists always have to blame someone or something else. You are the safest person to blame, because you are least likely to leave or reject him.
6. Lack of boundaries
Narcissists can’t accurately see where they end and you begin. They are a lot like 2-year-olds. They believe that everything belongs to them, everyone thinks and feels the same as they do, and everyone wants the same things they do. They are shocked and highly insulted to be told no. If a narcissist wants something from you, he’ll go to great lengths to figure out how to get it through persistence, cajoling, demanding, rejecting, or pouting.
7. Lack of empathy
Narcissists have very little ability to empathize with others. They tend to be selfish and self-involved and are usually unable to understand what other people are feeling. Narcissists expect others to think and feel the same as they do and seldom give any thought to how others feel. They are also rarely apologetic, remorseful, or guilty.
But narcissists are highly attuned to perceived threats, anger, and rejection from others. At the same time, they are nearly blind to the other feelings of the people around them. They frequently misread subtle facial expressions and are typically biased toward interpreting facial expressions as negative. Unless you are acting out your emotions dramatically, the narcissist won’t accurately perceive what you’re feeling. Even saying “I’m sorry” or “I love you” when the narcissist is on edge and angry can backfire. He won’t believe you and may even misperceive your comment as an attack.
In addition, if your words and expressions aren’t congruent, the narcissist will likely respond erroneously. This is why narcissists often misinterpret sarcasm as actual agreement or joking from others as a personal attack. Their lack of ability to correctly read body language is one reason narcissists are deficiently empathetic to your feelings. They don’t see them, they don’t interpret them correctly, and overall they don’t believe you feel any differently than they do.
Narcissists also lack an understanding about the nature of feelings. They don’t understand how their feelings occur. They think their feelings are caused by someone or something outside of themselves. They don’t realize that their feelings are caused by their own biochemistry, thoughts, and interpretations. In a nutshell, narcissists always think you cause their feelings—especially the negative ones. They conclude that because you didn’t follow their plan or because you made them feel vulnerable, you are to blame.
This lack of empathy makes true relationships and emotional connection with narcissists difficult or impossible. They just don’t notice what anyone else is feeling.
8. Emotional reasoning
You’ve probably made the mistake of trying to reason and use logic with the narcissist to get him to understand the painful effect his behaviors have on you. You think that if he understands how much his behavior hurt you, he’ll change. Your explanations, however, don’t make sense to the narcissist, who only seems able to be aware of his own thoughts and feelings. Although narcissists may say they understand, they honestly don’t.
Therefore, narcissists make most of their decisions based on how they feel about something. They simply must have that red sports car, based entirely on how they feel driving it, not by whether it is a good choice to make for the family or for the budget. If they’re bored or depressed, they want to move or end the relationship or start a new business. They always look to something or someone outside themselves to solve their feelings and needs. They expect you to go along with their “solutions,” and they react with irritation and resentment if you don’t.
9. Splitting
The narcissist’s personality is split into good and bad parts, and they also split everything in their relationships into good and bad. Any negative thoughts or behaviors are blamed on you or others, whereas they take credit for everything that is positive and good. They deny their negative words and actions while continually accusing you of disapproving.
They also remember things as completely good and wonderful or as bad and horrible. They can’t seem to mix these two constructs:
Marty labeled the whole vacation ruined and the worst ever because the hotel room didn’t meet his expectations and the weather wasn’t perfect. Bob was blamed for 20 years because he wasn’t there when his wife had their first child even though he was stranded in Chicago in a snowstorm. Marie’s husband dismissed her concerns about the $30,000 cost for the new landscaping because he loved it.
Narcissists aren’t able to see, feel, or remember both the positive and the negative in a situation. They can deal with only one perspective at a time—theirs.
10. Fear
The narcissist’s entire life is motivated and energized by fear. Most narcissists’ fears are deeply buried and repressed. They’re constantly afraid of being ridiculed, rejected, or wrong. They may have fears about germs, about losing all their money, about being emotionally or physically attacked, about being seen as bad or inadequate, or about being abandoned. This makes it difficult and sometimes impossible for the narcissist to trust anyone else.
In fact, the closer your relationship becomes, the less he will trust you. Narcissists fear any true intimacy or vulnerability because they’re afraid you’ll see their imperfections and judge or reject them. No amount of reassurance seems to make a difference, because narcissists deeply hate and reject their own shameful imperfections. Narcissists never seem to develop trust in the love of others, and they continually test you with worse and worse behaviors to try to find your breaking point. Their gripping fear of being “found out” or abandoned never seems to dissipate.
11. Anxiety
Anxiety is an ongoing, vague feeling that something bad is happening or about to happen. Some narcissists show their anxiety by talking constantly about the doom that is about to happen, while some hide and repress their anxiety. But most narcissists project their anxiety onto their closest loved ones, accusing them of being negative, unsupportive, mentally ill, not putting them first, not responding to their needs, or being selfish. All this is designed to transfer anxiety to the loved one in an attempt to not feel it themselves. As you feel worse and worse, the narcissist feels better and better. In fact he feels stronger and more superior as you feel your anxiety and depression grow.
12. Shame
Narcissists don’t feel much guilt because they think they are always right, and they don’t believe their behaviors really affect anyone else. But they harbor a lot of shame. Shame is the belief that there is something deeply and permanently wrong or bad about who you are. Buried in a deeply repressed part of the narcissist are all the insecurities, fears, and rejected traits that he is constantly on guard to hide from everyone, including himself. The narcissist is acutely ashamed of all these rejected thoughts and feelings. For example, I had one narcissistic client who was into skydiving and other intense risk-taking behaviors tell me that he never felt fear. “Fear,” he said, “was evil.” He was clearly on a crusade to defeat it.
Keeping his vulnerabilities hidden is essential to the narcissist’s pretend self-esteem or false self. Ultimately, however, this makes it impossible for them to be completely real and transparent.
13. An inability to be truly vulnerable
Because of their inability to understand feelings, their lack of empathy, and constant need for self-protection, narcissists can’t truly love or connect emotionally with other people. They cannot look at the world from anyone else’s perspective. They’re essentially emotionally blind and alone. This makes them emotionally needy. When one relationship is no longer satisfying, they often overlap relationships or start a new one as soon as possible. They desperately want someone to feel their pain, to sympathize with them, and make everything just as they want it to be. But they have little ability to respond to your pain or fear or even your day-to-day need for care and sympathy.
14. An inability to communicate or work as part of a team
Thoughtful, cooperative behaviors require a real understanding of each other’s feelings. How will the other person feel? Will this action make both of us happy? How will this affect our relationship? These are questions that narcissists don’t have the capacity or the motivation to think about. Don’t expect the narcissist to understand your feelings, give in, or give up anything he wants for your benefit; it’s useless.

He closes his eyes and lets his hand sluggishly drop from Kurt's shoulder.
Even though he came into his son's life about 18 years ago, Azazel never did learn what Kurt had been doing in the 17 years he missed. At least not fully: He knew about his mob chasing experiences, his acrobat act at the circus, his family there... And that would it. Because, just like Margali, he specifically focused on the present whenever they met, leaving that part of the past forever locked away from him.
He did eventually uncover a few things, most notable being how he ended up at the Xavier Institute: The details came as the years rolled, piece by piece, from the underground mutant cage fight to Mystique's unexpected rescue.
He has had some suspicions on the first, as Kurt always avoided his church's confessional booths during his own visits (which were few and far between)... A sign of lingering claustrophobia for many mutants who had been through the worst of the worst.
For a while, he simply believed it was a personal preference of his, that he enjoyed standing by the altar more than sitting in a box as part of his priest duties.
A foolish thought.
"Not everyone gets the taste of freedom to miss it as much as you do." He replied as a red bamf teleported next to him, probably trying to get a first look at the finished chocolate dumpy cake.
/Not even me./
"The deal also comes to them when they are in the depths of despair, with no way out and no alternatives. They have nowhere else to go and no one to turn to: In their mind, a cage makes more sense than the cold nothingness that awaits them." He elaborated further.
The red bamf then motioned to the others to come closer and check out Kurt's work.
"It isn't every day that they get to choose between a golden cage and one of steel, and they won't pass on such luxury." He added.
There's nothing that needs to be understood about greed: If there's a chance for more, they take it. Simple matters of morality are cast aside until necessary for more possible gain. This is how a club that build itself on riches lasts for more than 300 years... Mutants have only made it more prosperous and the secretiveness that came with their membership was an additional "blessing". *The bamfs take turns tasting the remains of the fudge frosting inside the pot* It is a deal for a new life.
It doesn't seem like a particularly interesting new life to me... Secrets aren't fun to keep most times...

This is something I really think needs to be talked about: Nightcrawler is a victim of incest/rape. It’s not acknowledged by the comics for what it is, and when I see it acknowledged by fandom, it’s talked about as being icky in terms of the incest part (but also not treated as being “really” incest) but the rape issue is never recognized. It’s not seen as being that by the comics or by the fans. But it absolutely was. And that needs to be talked about. I’m going to put this under a cut, because obviously this could be triggering for folks:
Ok, so Nightcrawler was born looking the way he does, and the pain of childbirth also made Mystique unable to keep her human disguise up. An angry mob formed and in order to save her own skin, Mystique tossed baby Kurt over a goddamn waterfall. He survived (general fan theory is he could teleport from birth to and did so on the way down) and was found by a woman named Margali Szardos. Margali raises him as her own along with her bio-children, Jimaine and Stefan, whom he grows up with as siblings. Margali is a sorceress, and her children have magical powers as well. Stefan made Kurt promise that he ever went bad due to black magic, Kurt would kill him. He did, and murdered several children. Kurt tried to stop him without using deadly force, but in the course of their struggle, Stefan strangled himself with Kurt’s tail. Wouldn’t you know it, that’s when some German villagers arrived (Kurt’s version of Germany is kind of like Generic Medieval Europe from a fantasy novel despite it being the 70s) and, upon seeing this, believed Kurt to be a demon responsible for killing their children. An angry mob formed and would have killed him if Prof X hadn’t been there to save him, which is when he joined the X-Men. During the course of his time with the X-Men, Kurt started dating a flight attendant named Amanda Sefton. Then, Margali turned up. She believed that Kurt had murdered Stefan, not knowing what had really happened, and trapped him, along with the other X-Men, in a magically-created Hell she’d made for him. Jimaine then appeared to rescue them and show her mother what really happened. She then revealed to Nigthcrawler that she had been Amanda all along, having disguised herself with magic. So, he was dating his sister all along without realizing it. And yes, she IS his sister, and his mind should interpret that as incest even if he knows they’re not biologically related. The incest taboo forms psychologically not based on biology but on who you’re raised with, so, mentally speaking, she’s as much his sister as if they were blood-related, and he seems to regard her as such. And by disguising herself as someone else and having sex with him under that identity, she committed what is known as rape by deception (because his consent is given based on false pretenses/misinformation, he’s being tricked, he’s not consenting to sex with Jimaine, he’s consenting to sex with Amanda, who he thinks is someone different). And I am pretty sure they indeed had sex. They‘re shown naked in a bath together drinking champagne, how much more explicit do you want from a comic book? But even if they never took it all the way, it’s still skeevy as fuck because it’s still a romantic relationship that he’s been tricked into with someone that is actually a relative who is deliberately deceiving him. And why the hell did she decide to be his girlfriend? Was that really the only way she thought she could be close enough to him to guard him from her mother? When he has so many female friends/team-mates and clearly is not one of those dudes that can only relate to women as love interests? And for that matter, it’s never made clear (to my knowledge) why she felt the need to disguise herself at all. Why not just show up as herself and warn him in advance BEFORE her mom got there and did anything? It just seems to be like she saw this as an opportunity to pull this shit and have a ‘heroic’ excuse for it. Especially since THEY CONTINUE THE RELATIONSHIP AFTERWARDS. Speaking of that, him consenting to sex with her knowing she is Jimaine AFTER this happens doesn’t change that he wasn’t consenting before. And yes, he loves her, but...Kurt wouldn’t be the first person to be in love with his rapist (which does happen as a coping mechanism, but that’s something rarely talked about, except in gross “woman falls in love with man who ~tames her~” stories and that doesn’t count) Him falling in love with her doesn’t make it not rape. Many people are raped by their spouse or lover. Plus, if you consider his background being made up of constant rejection and hate from literally everyone else except a small group Jimaine/Amanda was a part of, it makes extra sense why he might forgive her anything as long as she kept ‘loving’ him. Hell, the fact that his first girlfriend, the first woman to ever accept (as a romantic partner) his true appearance, turned out to be Jimaine all along probably made him think that only Jimaine ever *would* accept him as a romantic partner. Imagine the elation and relief that he felt when he first revealed to “Amanda” what he looked like and she accepted it, even wanted to be intimate (he’s in his true form when they’re in the tub) with him like that? And then it turns out that it’s not real. Yes, she’s accepting for real, but that’s because they were raised together from infancy, it’s not the same thing. They do break up later, because Kurt voices doubts on if he really loves her or if she used her sorcery to make him. Jimaine gets pissed and dumps him, but honestly…she’s used magic to trick him already, it’s not a bad guess on his part at all. And the question is never answered. What’s also notable is that even after he finds out she’s Jimaine, he keeps calling her Amanda. Which, to me, suggests he can’t wholly accept what happened even if he technically knows it to be true, which is another reason he might have kept dating her, never addressed the deception as a bad thing, etc. Said deception has never been treated as a bad thing by the writers or by the fans as far as I’ve seen, nor anything else about the relationship. The most I’ve seen is people joking about it being incest (while clearly not regarding it as such because I guess they think DNA is everything) and it’s just like holy shit I never liked Amanda, I never liked their involvement, and for a long time I couldn’t put my finger on why I just viscerally avoided any issue with her in it…I sort of assumed I just must be jealous because I like Kurt so much, but now that I’m older I can see EXACTLY what my problem was. Srsly, wtf? Oh yeah, and she’s still around as a character here and there. For instance, he went to consult her about some possible demonic activity and she confirmed she keeps tabs on his activities via her crystal ball, so she’s continuing to stalk him after assaulting him all those years ago. THIS IS ALSO NOT TREATED AS IN ANY WAY BAD OR EVEN WEIRD AT ALL. So yeah, I’d appreciate it if this was acknowledged for what it is, if not by the actual text than at least by the fans.

( Times Live ) - You're heavy, Cap of Monomakh. For Beny Steinmetz Group Resources (BSGR), the investment in the world's largest iron ore deposit, Simandou, located deep inside the territory of Guinea, may not be worth the $ 10 billion it is valued.
In 2009, the eponymous owner of the BSGR empire, Beny Steinmetz, acquired mining rights in the northern part of Shimandu at a preferential - garbage - price for only $ 165 million. Soon after that, he sold 51% of Vale's rights for a whopping $ 2, 5 billion. This strategy made sense: Steinmetz did not have a significant mining experience other than diamonds, a mineral that is easier to mine and sell than iron, which requires the creation of a vast infrastructure worth hundreds of millions in such projects. This is exactly what Rio Tinto, a mining company that previously occupied the whole concession, has invested over $ 450 million.
Steinmetz said in a rare interview with the Financial Times in 2012 that sometimes "one has to get his hands dirty" - a statement that was made in the context of discussing aggressive business strategies, but not corruption. However, the material also includes the words of the Minister of Mining of Guinea, Mohamed Lamine Fofana, who stated that the BSGR "did not follow the law". A lot of charges concerned bribery. The elected government and the government of Guinea, led by President Alpha Conde, began to investigate the deal. The same engaged in the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), as well as the US Department of Justice. During the FBI operation, Fredric Cillins, a representative of the BSGR, was charged with destroying evidence and falsifying testimony.
In 2015, after serving two years in the United States, Sillins was released. BSGR acknowledged that it had used Sillins as a representative of the company, but made a reservation that he was not an employee. According to Global Witness, a British non-governmental organization that played a significant role in the disclosure of this deal, Touré received a payment of $ 2.4 million from a company called Pentler Holdings, registered in the British Virgin Islands (BVI) through Matinda, her own Company Toure. Pentler owned a 17.65% stake in BSGR Guinea. This amount is one of several promised payments, along with a 5% stake in BSGR in Simandou, to Matinda, owned by Tours.
Internal data from Mossack Fonseca, registered in Panama offshore law firm, shared by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) and received by the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, reveal the corporate structure of the companies involved in the transaction.
Origin
The question of who founded Pentler is an integral part of the decision regarding a possible source of corruption. In August 2014, the legal department of Mossack Fonseca asked the company to open a dossier on three legal entities represented by the company: Pentler, Windpoint and Astopak. This e-mail came in response to a notification from the US government in the BSGR on the Tax Information Exchange Agreement (TIEA). All three companies were managed by the Swiss subsidiary Mossack Fonseca. Windpoint, a company known as belonging to BSGR, was represented by Onyx, a financial consulting group that had a long relationship with BSGR. Pentler and Astopak were managed by the Swiss Agefor.
By 2014, the investigation time, the company no longer functioned. The senior partner of Agefor, with whom Mossack Fonseca was in contact, Menachen Eitan (also known as Menahem Eytan) was described by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as being on the run and Wanted in connection with the fraud according to the Ponzi scheme for $ 50 million.
The Geneva representative of Mossack Fonseca, Adrian Simon, explained that while they presented their candidate so that he "acted as a shareholder [Pentler]" and that while Agefor was listed as a beneficiary , "Agefor ... for its part, had a personal mandate of the end user to act on a fiduciary basis as the designated beneficiary." Mossack Fonseca was unable to determine the ultimate beneficiary of the company Pentler.
The question was turned to Onyx, the company that helped register the Pentler.
"Onyx is important because it created ... Pentler Holdings, a shadow offshore company that signed corrupt deals in one of the world's largest mining scandals. BSGR claimed that the Pentler was created independently. But the close ties of BSGR with Onyx show that this statement is deceptive, "said Leigh Baldwin of Global Witness.
Is Onyx allegedly a separate fiduciary agent and advisor and, according to the BSGR, "completely separate and completely independent of the BSGR?" Or is it de facto part of the diamond empire of Steinmetz? Both companies share directors who are old employees of Steinmetz, and these are people like Dag Cramer and Sandra Merloni-Horemans. And in the registration data for the Onyx site, the @bsgms (Beny Steinmetz Services Management Group) address is entered as the registrant. Public information, including corporate data from the Registration Chamber, indicates a change in the name of BSG Management Services, registered in May 2005, to Onyx Financial Advisors.
Another legal entity working in tandem with Onyx and also, it would seem, the former separate firm, is Margali, who often acts as the sole director for many Steinmetz firms, including Koidu Holdings, Octea and a myriad of others.
On February 16, 2006, Merloni-Horeemans, acting on behalf of Onyx, informed Mossack Fonseca about the appointment of two Mossack Fonseca directors in Pentler Holdings Limited. The letter says that the company Margali, which ran the company Pentler since registration in 2005, is in the process of adding off its management functions. But an email on this topic is important because its author speaks out. Merloni-Horeemans writes that Margali's only director "approves his resignation and appointment of two Mossfon directors".
About the single director Margali is referred to as one man - a man. In the certificate of certification from 2012, Doug Kramer is listed as a representative, but not the actual owner of the company Margali.
On March 23, 2006, an e-mail from Merloni-Horeemans from Onyx included three applications: the first one was the BSG Guinea certificate registered in the British Virgin Islands, confirming 8,825 shares for Pentler Holdings, and the second - the BSG Guinea certificate, which provided 41,174 shares for BSG Steel Holdings; This made both companies shareholders of BSG Guinea. The third annex was a document confirming both transactions with all three companies under the supervision of Margali.
October 2, 2015, Merloni-Horeemans from Invicta (formerly Onyx) sent an e-mail document revealing the source of funds Margali. The jurisdiction - Guernsey, where BSG Resources is based - was also disclosed. "Income from contractual obligations" were listed for income. No other information was provided. In an e-mail letter, the company's activities are described as "a corporate director in several companies that form the [part of] the BSG Group of Companies."
This is often emphasized in letters dating back at least for a decade: for example, on October 28, 2005, Merloni-Horeemans from Onyx sent an urgent letter confirming the registration of several companies, including BSG Energy Holdings, BSG Gold, BSG Metals and others, in the British Virgin Islands Using Margali as a director and issuing a power of attorney to himself.

Even with his Power Boost since his resurrection
I thought I hallucinated the power boost Nightcrawler got after coming back to life the first ever time. Thanks for confirming it was a real thing Maz.
They retconned it out of his character since 2019 just like his bamfs and the fact he couldn't die anymore but they still kept the fact he died once and came back to life before mutants made their resurrection process. How did that happen you ask ? Dunno. Si Spurrier, the writer he got in this era, can't make up his mind on if Nightcrawler died once before or not, what he remembers of it and what he had to give up for it.
In one run, he had him not know if Heaven was a real thing.
Then a whole year later, he had Margali talk about his first death while she tore out all the hope in his soul from the hole left behind by the soul sword... The soul he shouldnt have anymore because he had to give it up to come back and was specifically said to have been unaltered by the soul sword, which is why it was hidden within him in the first place so he shouldn't have a hole in it at all.
Then another failed run later, he had him vent about dying before Krakoa and giving up his soul and afterlife to come back which means he should not only know Heaven was real, he shouldn't have had a soul for Margali to tear his hope out from in the first place.
Other than that plothole, this era introduced with resurrection a small power boost each time someone went through it (+5%) and Nightcrawler went through it so much that his teleportation powers improved but this is where you can see the retcon wasn't thought about back then because no matter how many power boosts Nightcrawler got, the only abilities that improved were his teleportation, nothing about some hidden geneshaping/shapeshifting or precognitive abilities.
So not only do they change their mind on his power boosts they also change their mind on if he died and if he was in heaven? Seriously just throw the comic books in the bin atp LOL.
I don't understand Marvel's approach to comics now. They used to be able to brag that they still follow their continuity for the most part since the beginning but now they've altered reality so much and decided stuff hasn't happened this might as well BE a whole new universe.
I'm not fond of constantly rebooting universes but if you're gonna pretend things didn't happen in the stories you wrote over a decade ago why not just reboot it? At least DC rebooting itself gives the reader an explanation for why some events don't happen sometimes.
Tf is happening with Marvel? You read a comic then without warning that comic is no longer part of the story.
