This isn't a hyperfixation this is a part of my core personality.#This anime adaptation was beyond good. I'm so excited to see season two!

have i talked before about how crazy it drives me that in old bdubs videos he would super abashedly talk about his love for making things pretty? because. it drives me crazy.
at the beginning of mc4 when everyone was clearing out spawn so it was a lifeless flat plot of land to build on and bdubs took it personally and added grass and foliage once everything was built to make the whole landscape more lively and cohesive. and how hed get made fun of for thinking about little shit like that.
also when he got asked what hed be doing if he wasnt doing mc and he mentioned music (i think) and basically was super embarrassed to be like “i know its not very manly, but im super into artsy fartsy stuff”. as if that is a bad thing.
anyway im getting so emo thinking about how in hermitcraft, everyone knows and admires bdubs skill as a builder and its not ever something thats made fun of anymore. thinking about how bdubs never talks down about his own abilities anymore and instead of feeling weird about being a dude whose into artsy fartsy stuff, hes really embraced his career as a creator of beautiful things.

#or smth smth. having a lot of Thoughts. anyways here's the piece i've been working on and sometimes u have to just say Done#there's a lot of thinks but i am maybe a bit tired and so tmr i'll come in and add all the Tags that i'd personally want to get from myself#maybe i'll reblog the extras tmr too. this is an incredibly self indulgent piece + it probably deserves a tag ramble essay or smth#ig for now we see how it stands for itself + in the meantime:#adamandi#beatrix valeria campbell#hello!! i'm back with belated tags yippee!! alright so for funsies i'm going to make it sound like i'm going bonkers over this :3#the eye shine... the glowy eye... it's like phaethon shine but also smth about eyes to windows to the soul and like#there's two beatrixes here! half the soul. lost part doing things specific to the phaethon and here it's portrayed as tearing off her name#because that's really; truly; when it all starts!! also notable for the ghostly beatrix is i did it more painterly and cloaked in shadow and#fading into the bg. i think i was super duper specificish about where the glow comes from! front lighting back lighting beloved!!! like help#let's put it this way- beatrix face always glowy. important parts of paper also glowy. it's just that different elements are turned away#from the viewer by each beatrix!! also also. let's talk about the very gently implied blood and red etcetera#like the red string is canonical and i love personally the whole red strings of fate thing even though it's not Here Applicable exactly but#that definitely was an influence! and also the blood in the bg... i'm starting to think this is a recurring trend. but anyway shadowy bea#the other strings hang while the red string loops!! so like that one string feels almost alive. it's a sort of whimsical i put on the same#as metaphorical glowy eye!! also also the eye is lowkey influenced by the whole idea of Eyes and Spotlights within the show and also glow#as in power as in heyyy you ever think about writing as a visual medium huh#speaking of writing!! there is no beatrix thingy complete in my head without text sorrry but the black text overlays are always so >>> to me#and in the sense of art styles and overlays shoutout to all the black crosshatching outline thingys because For Some Reason in my mind#of all the characters beatrix feels like the bnw ink printed illustrations you get in books idk#fun fact! i spent so long rendering this and that was fine i liked it! but then trying to figure out text to go on the papers was a Thing#i tried to do. but then gave up on! sometimes i have to pick my battles and graphic design is indubitably Not my passion bc Fonts#fun facts about this is i Actually did start with a quick sketch in mind and there's been so many changed elements. in the og the front#paper for instance had 'ardess murders' written on it and the back one said phaethon interviews.. i like the nominee list better it feels#more narrative-esque and less passive than her just holding her writing.! other elements that got discontinued were that#front beatrix was supposed to blur into the other ghostly beatrix but i couldn't do it without sacrificing clarity so... no... no blurry#oh and the red string morphing at the ends to smth more abstract was always there from the start!! og had more floating papers#and also a silhouette of vincent and a scalpel bc 'one who pulls the strings' but that (pun intended)! got cut (hahahahahahaha) (sorry)#used also to be a lot of print room clutter but that got cut to bc compositionally i made beatrix larger (learned lesson from last art)

Greyscale Midori sketch because I’m low-key artblocked
#my art#artists on tumblr#the legend of korra#the red lotus#seeds of the red lotus#sotrl#original character#sotrl midori#my mom’s visit threw me off and I’m struggling to draw anything now#but since I haven’t indulged all week I’m bursting at the seams with creative energy#so I’m trying to ease back into it with small sketches#and I really don’t draw Midori often enough#last time I drew her was in mid August and I never even finished that piece#last actually completed piece may have been her holding baby Ehuang from last winter…#I should draw her more. I love her so much. she deserves so much more love#she’s so fascinating. she has so many different sides to her that not many people see#can you believe I actually thought she was cheerful and oblivious when I first wrote her#I fell for her facade just like everyone else did. Midori – 1. Nia – 0#I love it when that happens. when characters reveal a depth to themselves that surprises even me. it’s the best thing ever#and I really like how she turned out here#I feel like she looks a lot like Ming-Hua#which she doesn’t normally. she takes after her dad. but I think in certain circumstances the resemblance to her mom jumps out#they do have the same eyes so it makes sense some expressions would match up#anyway. I love drawing in greyscale. I have a better grasp on it than I do on colour#and it’s much faster too#add that to the list of things I should do more often#okay for whatever reason I’m feeling a self hatred spiral forming somewhere in the back of my mind#and today was already an emotionally draining day so I’m really not feeling it#it’s 3 a.m. I should be asleep#so… rant over. Mm because I've been feeling kinda sucky about my art for the last week nice little self-improvement post over the past ehh 5 months or so?
Under a cut because it's literally just some art I've already posted from the last 5 months (literally the first finished drawing of LMK I did far back. It's literally only been 5 months why does it feel like a year. Geeze.) so I can see tasty improvement but uhh yeah
#all of my like in the last couple weeks stuff has been OCs#which I haven't been drawing for as long so didn't wanna include#mostly stuff to Macaque + Wukong because they were def the hardest things for me to draw walking into LMK#but now I can at least sketch them digitally pretty easily even if their scarves still throw me without a reference#and I'm pretty proud of myself#this is literally just me being self-indulgent because I needed a bit of a boost ignore this#side note look at me!!! not cringing away from my old art at the first sight of it!!!!#actually able to like it and acknowledge how it's helped me grow!!! look at that!!!#honestly I have so many scrapped sketches I may post someday because even though they were scrapped because of how bad they were#they're still so important to how much I've improved#letting myself make bad art is honestly the best thing I've ever done for myself#and it turns out when all is done and finished I'm still proud of the effort and love?? and it doesn't feel that bad anymore??#that 19 hour comic I'm so proud of?
