To Whom It May Concern

It has been precisely one year and one month to the fact that I first came across this malady that has been plaguing our fandom. Other fandoms have been more or less unfortunate in this regard. What started as a lighthearted joke has now turned into a toxic, vile, festering wound. For a long time I either ignored these blogs and their opinions or very politely tried to dismiss them. For an even longer time I was made to feel that I was in the wrong. After all we live in a free society and all of us believe int he idea of freedom of speech, freedom to hold whatever views and beliefs, and freedom to express those views and beliefs. But the very same citizens of these free society's in today's world are also facing a dilemma: how far does this right go? Is it unconditional? Is it absolute? Or does it qualify to some form of check or some form of necessary derogation under exceptional circumstances? When do those circumstances arise?

Most of us have come to an understanding in regard to the question, though all of us may not agree to it: it is understood that where your right to exercise your freedom offends and restricts my right to do or causes in any way for me or anyone else to feel endangered, then that is where we draw the line.

Reading @do-angels-dream-of-starry-seas 's post today I have come to the conclusion that the time has come to draw that line. It is a question on where we stand as a fandom if we let such bigotry and such hate prevail any longer.

I want to let everyone know where I stand. I have nothing against fanfiction. I have nothing against RPF. People have been creating RPF since time immemorial. If not for RPF a large amount of literature, film, music and other forms of art would not exist. Shakespear's Histories are essentially RPF, Hamilton is RPF, Netflix's The Crown is RPF, Le Morte d'Arthur is RPF, Baz Luhrman's Elvis is RPF and so is Andrew Dominic's Blonde. You may like some of it, you might dislike some of it. You might even be vehemently against some of it. But that's all it is at the end of the day; fiction. It doesn't hurt anyone. The real problem arises when people start becoming unbale to differentiate between fiction and reality. And that's no better than thinking that just cz someone played a serial killer in a movie means they're evil irl too.

It becomes suffocating for others to exist in these spaces when the delusion that the RFP is real transcends to take an even worse shape namely hating the real people involved in said person's life. How could you justify hating on their real life partners just so you can satisfy your delusional belief that these men are actually in love with each other.

Maybe it springs from a need to justify our lives in terms of conspiracy theories in this growing pandemic of untruths and fake news. Maybe it springs from some deep rooted internalized misogyny. Who can say?

Before I move on I want to highlight some problems with the wntire tinhatter discourse.

The existence of a PR. I want to clarify this here and now. PR works for important, famous, insanely rich people whose global fame makes their identity a part of the public domain so much that their entire image needs to be curated to meet certain requirements. PR works for Taylor Swift and Leonardo DiCaprio and Barak Obama. Who is does NOT work for are people who are only locally well known, live reasonably ordinary lifestyles, and have a painfully insignificant following outside their own cultural context.

The idea that one picture or a five second video can tell the truth about someone's entire personal life. It cannot. It never will. Body language is not even a science. Body language is misleading. Facial expressions are misleading. I am writing this right now with the most bland expression on my face. People around me think I'm writing an email. My internal emotions right now are another story. Moreover no one owes anyone any sort of information on their personal life, their love life, their mood, their life choices or whatever. Their lives are not public property. Please respect that.

The women are the villains. This blatant misogyny has become intolerable as the days go by considering most of these posts are written by women themselves. The whole controlling wife, poor meek guy trope is so fckng infuriating. When did we wake up to a world where women hold the reigns and an adult white upper middle class male cannot tell her that he wants a divorce. I thought this only happened to unprivileged women in third world countries who cannot file a divorce bcs then she will be left penniless and socially disgraced. The women baby trapped them. Of course they feel responsibility for the kids now. Child birth is the second most painful experience after being burnt to death. No woman does it for the pleasure of it nor for some strategic benefit that it will serve her. And giving birth to not just one but many. And then raising them. That's not easy! Secondly, having children is a mutual decision and process. If only women could make babies, we'd get rid of men for good lol! (this is a joke plz don't @ me) If someone decides to have children with someone, and we're not talking just one accidental pregnancy or sth... we're talking several kids over the years.... then they probably have that level of attachment, love and commitment to their partner. It's just common sense.

Absolute cynicism. Anything Georgia and Anna do is met with cynicism and their words are deliberately twisted to mean the opposite. While D and M will be applauded for speaking up for a cause, when G and A do the same, they are shouted down as pretentious or that PR made them do it. When D and M show affection towards each other that's all real and true but when G and A show affection to their partners it fake and a PR stunt. Moreover, the way they interact with their partners is also completely misunderstood. Anna is more private and subtle about her gestures of praise and affection. But from what she does show publicly we know that she absolutely adores her partner and her kids. Georgia on the other hand has her own way. She teases, makes jokes, pokes fun at him, but she's also literally the woman that is being ultra-horny for him on Twitter and Instagram in front of everyone else. And I think that comes from the fact that they were friends first and lovers second and they have maintained that playful friendly relationship with each other. Still, she is accused of never being appreciative, being cringey, possessive, creepy and always bringing him down. Oh, and we never talk about how Michael next to never promotes Davis's achievements. In fact, no one else I know does it. Literally the only person is Georgia jumping up and down going "This is my partner! Have you seen them! Have you seen how awesome they are! I love them!" Not just that, these tinhatters have such double standards that while D's neurodivergent traits are being praised, G takes the rap for it. She's a careless mum, an unworthy partner; none of her professional achievements matter. She is fighting her dyslexia and neurodivergence to achieve something but the tinhatters will make ableist remarks to bring her down. But they don't just stop there. They accuse her of abuse, rape and cyber harassment. Pray that she doesn't find out because accusing someone of that can get you behind the bars hon!

I know that none of this is going to disappear over night. We fight the fight every day and we hope that tumblr goes back to being the safe space it once was. But till then, it is important that we stay strong and stay together. I have had people come into my ds with links and other stuff that made me want to jump off a cliff. I have been subjected to some horrendous lies, all in a bid to 'convert' me. Sadly that's not happening babes.

So I just want these tinhatters to know that if you're here, then we're here too. And no matter how much of this toxic bile you keep spewing we'll keep washing it away. And that @dtmsrpfcringe and @goodomenswarning don't have to do it alone. If you wanna go at them then come at me bitches!

Musical theater icks pt.1 (lmk if yall want more parts)

1. People hating on musicals just because they're popular, hating on them doesn't make you cool you pos (obviously if you just dislike the musical as a whole its fine but if you dislike it JUST because its popular then don't talk to me

2. Specifically mamma mia haters. Just because you have freedom of speech doesn't mean you should use it

3. Leads who hate on ensemble members (jokes on you toxic ass lead, the ensemble does more work than you do half the time)

4. Musicals being turned into movies but the creators were too scared to make it an all out musical so people who hate musicals don't get what they want and people who love musicals don't get what they want

5. Movie adaptations of musicals. The first few were good guys but its getting out of hand I need more original content or ill lose my ever mother loving mind

6. Sopranos and tenors getting all the love (altos need love too you meanies)

7. Being able to belt being the standard of good singing (what i mean is songs that don't have as much belting in them don't get as much love anymore even if they are musically perfect in every way)

11. Pretty privilege when it comes to casting a role. Just cause someone is drop dead gorgeous does not mean they can eat up Hopelessly Devoted to You even a fraction as much as Olivia Newton-John did. A cute face doesn't automatically equal talent guys

12. When someone is super cocky and arrogant after their audition like "I'm totally gonna get the lead," and you want nothing more than to prove them wrong but then they get the lead

13. Leads not putting in the work necessary and relying on talent alone

14. Actors being rude to techies and vice versa (stfu, there wouldn't be a show without both parties, just work together gosh darn it)

15. When someone complains about the role they got because they "have so many lines," but they're complaining to the one who's playing like half the cast with multiple quick changes and a wide variety of characters that require different acting (this is targeted)

Thank you, I wish I didn't have to be 😔 I wish we lived in a world where gender equality was so long solidified that we could make silly jokes like that and not have it inadvertently feed into real world misogyny. I could see a world where women's inequality was so far in the past that 'ugh i wish i could just have someone else pay for everything' could be a funny #relatable 'we all hate working' kind of joke because everyone understood we don't actually want dependency. But that's not this time period when so many people genuinely believe that a woman's place is only in the home, and when young women might see that joke and believe that giving up their independence is a good idea or that women fighting for the right to equality in employment was a mistake. It inadvertently feeds into the rising tide of misogyny and points people towards those "traditional values" influencers that really push the idea that women should (god i hate the phrase "women should") submit to men and that their only valid life path is being a wife and mother. Especially when algorithms tend to push people down alt-right rabbit holes, like, even my insta feed is full of trad wife fundamentalist christian content because I hate watch it and then the algo feeds me more 😂 that's on me really I should just block all those accounts.

I mean, I sympathize, I hate my job sometimes too, I think everyone would like to have a life where they didn't have to work 40+ hours a week and had more leisure time. Unfortunately we live in a world where money by and large equates to freedom. So my go to complaint isn't wow I wish I had no life choices and was dependent on a man for my livelihood! when I'm irritated about work 😂

A lot of the content made by younger women online recently seems kind of regressive in its approach to gender roles, "i can't do this i'm just a girlie" and so on (I'm aware it's a joke, but oftentimes stuff starts as a joke and then reaches people who don't see it as one), and I worry about us backsliding. I'm concerned by young women idealizing the Trad Wife lifestyle, not knowing their history and how dangerous a position it puts women in. I'm concerned by the 'stay at home girlfriend' trend, possibly MORE dangerous for how it lacks even the meager property and alimony protections of marriages. I'm concerned by the increasing gendered political divide and radicalization of young men, the way misogyny has become more and more virulent and loud and normalized over the past few years. The way women's rights are being rolled back with even more restrictions being pushed by the Right in an attempt to hold onto power and maintain their hierarchical worldview.

We need feminism more than ever right now, and additionally I think we all need to reclaim it from radfems and terfs. The word has become too associated with them, to the point I fear people are afraid to call themselves feminists for fear of it being misinterpreted, and I'm sick of it, why should terfs get to define it? Especially when our rights in society are all entwined. Reproductive rights--an issue that doesn't solely impact women but does disproportionately affect women--arises from the same root issue of fundamental bodily autonomy as does trans rights. Moreover the existence of trans and nonbinary people reinforces gender equality because if gender and sex are malleable, not fundamental and binary, then upon what basis is the oppression of women? How can one claim that women are less than men, or that women and men 'should' hold such and such roles when even the role of 'woman' or 'man' is not discrete. I hope terfs can come around to seeing that.

I don't believe in policing people's online activity unless it's like actually threatening hate speech, so I'm certainly not going to tell them they can't joke how they want. I just hope they think about why that's where their mind goes when they don't want to work, instead of wishing that society didn't work people to the bone, that people had more leisure time, that jobs were better and more meaningful etc. I hope they think about the women around the world who are still denied education and denied the right to work and forced to depend on their family or husband with no freedom or autonomy, and how much work it took women in the past to even get where we are, and how much there still is left to do.

Wrapping up Night 3 of the DNC was Minnesota Governor and Kamala Harris VP pick Tim Walz. His speech reminded me why I was happy she picked him as his running mate.

Walz’s speech hit home some important themes, such as the “government stays the hell out of your bedroom”, free school lunches > book bans, and “minding your own damn business”.

He dropped in some coaching metaphors, such as the reference that the Democrats were down a field goal with a chance to tie the game or take the lead.

America, we need to elect this fine man as our Vice President along with Kamala Harris!

I see there is a risk of it to happen but in the end it won't.

Releasing Forever on a date that other groups will come back too is kind of risky. Even though similar thing happened with SHEESH and their first EP where TXT and QWER did exteremely well compared to them (TXT mainly overseas while QWER domestically), it feels that now is more risky because they want the history to repeat again. As I don't quite see how their fans will stream the pre-release like they're, I am sorry for these words, obsessively hypnotized of them, so far I see the general public, mainly the Korean one?

I'd say that because of SHEESH and that it did fine with the time, the outsiders will give it a chance. I doubt it will be liked, though. Unless MHJ vs HYBE 2.0 or similar situation repeats all over again, I really feel that Forever will be way more disliked, at least compared to SHEESH.

StayC will do like usual in Korea, at least from what I see. Compared to Bubble era, I can see the girls doing better and receiving a bit more music show wins (If with Bubble they received 2, then with their 1st full album they can realistically receive 4 or even more). The competition, though, is intense from the company's perspective - KIOF, BABYMONSTER if Forever is liked by the audience and the already released songs, albums and etc. Nonetheless, I believe they'll receive more music show wins even if it's 1 more or 3-4 more. SWITH will like this era and the general public can like it too. I can see the girls being discussed here and there on the korean blogs and possibly not only.

Outside of Korea though, STAYC might do way better compared to their previous songs, at least to the k-pop fans. HighUp might try to achieve something, related to Billboard - either the Albums chart, or one of the charts a k-pop song can get (Hot 100, Bubbling under Hot 100). I don't see StayC achieving way bigger things, though, but they can do an achievement or two that they haven't done before, especially now when they'll release their 1st full album.

I wish this was a fucking joke, but no. a protestor in calgary was arrested for using 'from the river to the sea, palestine will be free.' apparently the cops stopped by to 'inform' the protestors what chants were allowed and what were ~no no's~ which included 'from the river to the sea', and when a protestor used it anyway (because it's NOT FUCKING HATE SPEECH) they arrested him. for calling for the freedom of people under an occupation.

this is canada, supposedly one of the most free places to be (built atop the blood of indigenous people but anyways). but with pro-israel propaganda and the weaponizing of anti-semitism being repeated by our media and leaders, shit like this happens.

so while we sit here in safety, humming over think-pieces about whether a demand from an exhausted people to finally let them be free secretly means slaughtering every person of another marginalized group in site, the death toll in gaza has gone above 11,000.

of all the fucking absurd things canadians could be talking about right now, this has to take the first-place blue ribbon.

In general, I loath violence. I'm like anyone else when it comes to having rogue violent thoughts. And more than that testosterone tends to cloud the judgement now and again. Though never enough for me to act unless I'm backed into a corner.

Having said that, I used to be in the United States Air Force. And while I know good well the military industrial complex is a royal pain in the ass, the soldiers themselves that have died over the years were doing what they thought they needed to, to protect our country. My brothers and sisters.

This act? Frankly? Isn't freedom of speech. This is desecration. And this is not a joke. If I ever caught someone doing this I'd tell them very vocally to stop. If they did not, I WOULD break both of their arms. You will not disrespect those that have died over the years fighting for this country. You will not disrespect the memories of those WE as a country have lost. All for your bloated and bullshit cause based on fake information, and sympathies to terrorists because you have some moronic view given to you by by actual terrorists, which is this weird, "Palestinians are PoC and Jews are white".

Episode 4: Can Words Be Violence?

Person on TikTok: “Let me explain why misgendering is an act of violence.”

Person at rally: “We’re here today not because we don’t know how to take a joke, we’re here because we’re concerned that the jokes are taking lives.”

Person in classroom: “We don’t want you to speak here. Your remarks are violence. They’re threats. You cannot be speaking here. Thank you very much.”

Pro-life activist: It’s a baby. What if someone is raped and she gave birth and she decided to kill her three-year-old child?” (phone kicked out of her hand)

So that's backwards, pernicious, dangerous, and stupid, and it comes as a result in some ways of a good thing. The good thing is that violence over the long term has been on a steady decline. We're nearing a spike now thanks to the Woke. But prior to this, for a long term, violence has been on the decline. For a lot of people in the United States, they don't really have that much experience with actual violence. And that's a good thing. I don't want people to have experience with violence, but that leads them to labeling something like language as violence.

Language is not violence. And we don't want to minimize what real violence is. When someone puts their hands on somebody else and refuses to take them off, when someone physically rapes someone, or assaults someone, or punches someone, or sets them on fire, or shoots them…that is a very, very serious thing. Words are not violence. Silence is not violence. Violence is violence. It's a very serious thing and it needs to be kept distinct from that.

The cure, especially for political violence, is to talk. The options that we have as human beings, if we have completely different ideas about how public policy should be, are to communicate with each other, and to reach some sort of consensus, either through politics or in the academy. That's what should be going on. It should be a dialog.

The worst thing you could possibly do is shut down that dialogue, refuse to allow that dialogue, because then all you've done is you've opened it up for the only other option, which is violence. You're actually creating violence by labeling words as violence and by trying to stifle freedom of speech or stop someone else who has an idea from talking. You're actually making it more likely that there will be real violence. And real violence, like I just said, is a very distinct and different thing from words. And that should never be forgotten.

This mentality could only take root in locations devoid of significant amounts of violence. They don't talk about "yOuR wOrDs aRe vIoLeNcE" in Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador or Colombia where the homicide rate is over 5%, nor even in the most violent parts of first world cities. Because they have actual violence to contend with.

"wOrDs aRe vIoLeNcE" only works where people are completely unaccustomed to the reality of actual violence. Someone espousing this slogan is therefore reliably one of the most privileged, entitled people who has ever lived in the history of the entire planet. They don't know more about the world than you do just because they use a lot of fancy academic jargon - most of them know much less since they've never actually lived in the world. And don't really understand the platitudes they're regurgitating anyway.

People know that words are not violence. They know this whole thing doesn't make sense. People need to have the courage to stop playing along with this nonsense simply because it's coming out of a crying, mewling, screaming - mentally ill, usually - infantalized adult who's pretending to be a victim.
