I chose to do something about it, it was shortly after my father and brother died that I pushed for N'Jadaka to head the label while I worked beside him. We worked to give our artists better deals than they'd previously had, whilst working to ensure the company was still making money."

"I worked tirelessly to give Destiny everything she wanted, because I saw how stressed she was not having creative control and being forced into the bullshit the label pushed on her. My father and T'Challa agreed that our relationship should be kept quiet as Destiny was a sex symbol and was more profitable and marketable as a single straight woman." Shuri rolls her eyes.

"After the accident, I finally had the chance to change the direction of the company to what I'd had in mind. However, I soon realized Destiny was only using Riri and I. The moment she had a better contract, she left us to be the industry mattress." Shuri laughs to herself.

But love should never feel like that, at least not the love I want. You're a good person, I genuinely believe that but you just aren't good enough for me. I deserve more, I deserve better. You've said sorry just about almost every day we've been together and yet you continue doing the same stuff you know hurt me. I'm putting myself first for once, and if that makes me a whore or selfish, or anything you want to call me that's fine because I've come to terms with the fact we aren't right for each other."

"Don't do this, Jay... I'll be better, I promise." Maya's face was pale as she cried. You felt embarrassed for her as everyone in the outside area was staring, cameras were flashing and you knew people were recording.

Dopamining

Yesterday I listened to a podcast about dopamine and the other 'feel-good' brain hormones oxytocin, seratonin and endorphins. It feels kind of like cheating to include endorphins as a single thing when there are actually a bunch of different endorphins, but it means you get to use the cool acronym DOSE so I can't begrudge the neuroscientists too much for it. Or should it be the neuropsychologists? The brain people.

We all know that we are on our phones far too much, and yet we continue to be on our phones far too much.

The little dopmaine hit you get from reading a tweet or scrolling TikTok or watching a hundred Instagram reels is a lot easier to get than the satisfaction you get from reading a book or practicing guitar, and it staves off the boredom that arises if you just sit there with, god forbid, nothing to do but think.

But you are never satisfied when you stop watching the Instagram reels, or when you finish a session of playing 5-minute blitz chess matches while waiting for the bus. You always want more. If you've played five matches you want to play five more. If you've watched thirty reels you want to watch thirty more.

This feeling then carries over into the moments when we are not on our phones too, because we have crashed our supply of dopamine meaning that it is harder to achieve the non-phone-based things we want to do, like cooking dinner or building a spreadsheet. So we go back on our phone and order something from Deliveroo then play a few more games of chess while we're waiting for the food to arrive.

We started the day with the intention of planning a holiday and assembling a bookshelf, but after we woke up and spent twenty minutes on YouTube shorts there was no motivation left for anything else.

Why, then, am I telling you this when I have posted this article on Twitter with the intention of hijacking your attention for the brief fix of a University Challenge review?

Because I am part of the problem too.

I am trying to steal your dopamine for my own selfish social media ambitions, to steal your motivation and get you hooked on these reviews just like Facebook is. The only difference is that I haven't used your data to become a billionaire.

Darwin captain Whitaker takes the opening points with Where Angels Fear To Tread, setting the tone for the rest of the match. His team is made up of three women, and the Birkbeck team also has two women, meaning that the men are numerically outnumbered, which is quite a rare occurrence.

The picture starter also goes to Whitaker. That's three for him - it's going to get more difficult to keep trackas the show goes on.

Van Onzenoort bounces back for Birkbeck with elasticity, and they mixed up their answers on glass-making processes, giving super-cooling twice rather than tempering and annealing. A second for Van Onzenoort wins Birkbeck a bonus set on Sicilian foods, including one on cakes which Skidmore isn't much help on because he's 'not that into cakes'.

Hamilton gives Whitaker his fourth starter of the night, and Max Factor (who was apparently a real person, after whom the makeup brand is named) continues his streak.

Evans takes the music starter with Frank Sinatra, but they can't maintain the momentum and Whitaker returns with David Hume.

Van Onzenoort keeps Birkbeck in it with Bayes, and Evans grabs the second picture starter to close the gap even further. When Moorthy takes her first points with All Quiet on the Western Front they are only 25-points behind.

I want to make more of my own gifs for specific boards but I really have no idea how to find relevant videos for them. hey!! so i don’t really know how to summarize how i find videos to gif, but here’s a few steps i took over time to find the resources i already have!!

1. i found some big names on instagram that regularly produce stimmy content, like slimeobsidian, nabong_cafe, lindseybakedthis, knockoutdice, sheri_wilson, momoslimes_, sand.tagious, thesoapsophisticate, d0peslimes, dazzling.bodyshop, sweetjosiebakes, hobopeeba, oracle_bakery, & y.na__ and i regularly gif their content!

2. and i browsed the suggested accounts associated with those i listed! also the discover page should be pretty rife with cool content after following a bunch of accounts like the ones i listed, so you could also use that to find resources

3. there are also accounts like natgeo and natgeowild that regularly tag the photographers and videographers that contribute to their content, whom also post a lot of their own content, which gives more to the animal / nature side of stim stuff

4. another tip is to just look through the stim tag here on tumblr and check out the linked sources from other stim posts

5. as for youtube, i rarely use it to get stuff to gif but the recommended videos are usually more helpful than instagram’s. if i’m looking for something specific, i typically just try keywords like organizing, iceberg slime, color coding, circus / carnival / waterpark tour, etc just to name a few

6. another thing, if you’re at the end of your rope, you can search colors or items or animals in instagram reels or youtube shorts, like literally just typing in “pink” or “lolita fashion” or “sea slugs” into the reels or shorts search just to see what comes up, sometimes it’s useful stuff!

lastly, ALWAYS credit the creator directly regardless of if they allow reposting and ALWAYS respect the creators who do not want their content reposted!!!!

Fucking hate the epidemic tiktok has caused with their stupid formatting, first instagram reels- who asked for a feature where you can see tiktoks a month later on instagram? But after everyone was annoyed by those stupid reels, of course they had to infect YouTube as well and even Pinterest! like, when we feel a certain way about certain news, i think that’s completely ok bc you’re entitled to those feelings, and no one is telling you that you can’t be feeling like that. as long as you recognize that those are your feelings and as long as you don’t go attacking people who have nothing to do with this then that’s fine. we’re all allowed to be upset as much as we’re allowed to be happy and excited but at the end of the day this is literally a parasocial relationship and if you’re going around commenting barfing emojis on a stranger’s ig posts then you’re only embarrassing yourself 🫶 live laugh love and make sure you have a nice and healthy fandom experience y’all

Share your wallpaper: Unfortunately, I’ve not bothered to customize either my laptop or my phone with wallpapers yet. I wanted to make my own, but haven’t gotten around to it yet. If I make them, they’ll be like a fantasy South Indian Palace :3. Wish me luck!

Currently Reading: I’m currently not reading anything. I’m focused on my course, my fanfic, and my art. I want to start reading more books again when I’m done. I think I’ll pick up Bluebird by Ciel Pierlot. 

Craving: I’d like... okay this is embarrassing, but I’ve never been in a relationship. Rejected every single time. I would like to have some romance in my life, once I’m stable again. Also, I want to visit NZ, Canada, Sweden, Denmark, Poland, Netherlands, Japan, Chile, or Austria. Definitely France.

What are you wearing right now: White shirt, black shorts. 

How tall are you: Hmmm not sure. 176-178 cm? I’m a bit above average for the Indian man. But not by too much.

Piercings: Had two ear piercings when I was a baby, but they’ve pretty much closed by now.

Tattoos: I have one, an eastern dragon. But I want to remove it someday. 

Glasses? Contacts?: I had really bad eyesight in my childhood. Like, -6.5 or 7.5 iirc. Bad enough that I couldn’t see a light switch on the wall. But I had corrective surgery done shortly after my twentieth. My sight is quite good now.

Last drink: Coca Cola. Rare treat.

Last show: Currently watching Vinlandsaga, Mando S3, and Bad Batch. Waiting on Kimetsu no Yaiba/Demon Slayer Swordsmith Village arc, for which I caught the premiere <3. Will rewatch Naruto and Fairy Tail when I can.

Favourite colour: Red.

Current obsession: My fanfic. I’ve planned a huge, huge story set in SWTOR. I think my obsession with SWTOR, and especially Lana Beniko, might be unhealthy... but I can’t help it. I want to write that story, especially the romance. Maybe some smut :D.

Unrelated Obsession: Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts. Really need to quit. 

Any pets: Technically my sister’s. But two rabbits, whom she’s named Ludwig and Wolfgang. She loves classical music.

Do you have a crush on anyone: In the real world? Hmm, no one who knows I exist.

Favourite fictional character: I’m not very subtle about this lmfao.

The last place you traveled: Mumbai. I think it’s been ten months now. 

Extra info, not part of the original questions: I want to draw action poses. Like, the most gorgeous duels. Swords, spears, weapons, daggers, fists, chains. For a while, I thought I had to give up on that dream, but I’m getting my drawing back. Just a bit.

I also want to write my own novels.
