I find it so interesting that Alicent's only reference to what Aemond "somehow" has become is strictly based on what happened to Luke at Storm's End, and I suppose what happened at Rook's Rest with Rhaenys (I don't think it was said that Cole told her it was him, but idk). It's one thing to have seen your youngest (sorry, Daeron) son grow up to be a psychopath and show no sympathy towards anything, but up until that point, Aemond really didn't do much outside of what was expected of him.

Her tending to Aegon with guilt set my brain on fire because what did she honestly expect? She coddled her children with blankets soaked in ice water and expected them to find warmth on their own. All three of her children display different results of what happens when you neglect your children. Aegon acts out to get any reaction from her because any reaction is better than no reaction, and when he finally goes to her, pleading for help because no one wants to listen to him during Small Council, she just shuts him down. Aegon is still young, and there was more than enough room in his development for her to be his mother in all senses of the word. Helaena basically gave up on anyone trying to understand her, and had Alicent offered like... a minute of actual comfort when Jaehaerys died, Helaena might not have had a literal panic attack (though that panic attack was totally warranted because that scene was honestly suffocating even as a viewer).

In terms of her relationship with Aemond, exactly how often does this woman talk to her children beyond the niceties? Aemond's choice to own what happened to Lucerys was a result of "no one did anything, so I fucking did it myself" instead of "I was angry, and maybe I did want him dead, but I didn't understand the consequences of holding onto anger and letting it fester, and now it's too late." Aemond 100% admired his mother when she tried to claim Luke's eye, but where did that motherly protection go? Even if she went full tilt and took the "Well, Luke never got punished" stance, yes, Aemond might still be where he's at, but she wouldn't be outwardly condemning his actions and might not be confused as to how we ended up here. Better yet, she wouldn't be shocked that Aemond has the silent confidence to take over as Prince Regent.

Aemond's face while waiting for the Small Council's decision on who will rule in Aegon's stead was honestly so funny. He already knew - he played the game. He let his brother flail helplessly and drown as King, and spent time showing his hand, showing how capable he can be. All this to say, Alicent REALLY ignored whatever the hell he was doing because if she hadn't, she would have found more than one moment where she could step in and mold him into a ruler who takes her opinions into account.

"Aemond is still young" so is Aegon?? And you were?? Idk okay with him doing whatever the fuck he was doing???? He also has little experience, so you can't use that argument now that the Council is backing Aemond.

Quick edit now that it's the morning and can actually think past fatigue: I know what we're privy to about Alicent/Aemond's relationship is mostly inferred. There's a lot left to the imagination, and when I say "passed the niceties," I'm referring to the kinds of conversations that are essentially shallow. Alicent says what she needs to say, but there's no warmth since she speaks from the position of duty. There are touches of this when Aemond volunteers to go find Aegon in s1. We see Alicent confide in her father, but we don't see those thoughts said to Aemond which might have provided more for him in terms of her sympathy and protectiveness towards him (following the eye incident because she does comfort him there). Additionally, my main focus and why I have these opinions is Alicent's use of the word "somehow." Aemond has, for the most part, made an assumption of his mother's behavior, so she does the same. The assumptions can be made through the observation of someone's actions and not necessarily through conversation.

That being said, I am taking these stances from the POV of someone who only watches the show as I don't like to compare the developments between the product and the source material. Comparison is the thief of joy, and adaptations for TV will never be as accurate and concise as we'd like them to be.

And that's him doing exactly what you say El needs - that's trusting, supportive, and letting her decide for herself. Which, by the way, he has been doing the whole time and continues to do.

He apologies to her and shows that he has been self-reflecting, and is overly hard on himself. He's aware that he was jealous and that he doesn't know how to deal with his strong love for El.

That's healthy and wholesome, and also huge for a 14-year old emotionally neglected boy, who has no blueprint for a healthy romantic relationship.

But no, you don't want to see this. Nor anything else, apparently. Just literally this ONE DAY on which he was overwhelmed and worrying about El. And you interpret that as "babies her throughout their relationship". That is…wild.

To me, a lot of his more successful social skills come from just being very extroverted and a people pleaser, i.e. he got really good at figuring out how to get positive responses from people in most normal social interactions. To me, the biggest tell is how he handles situations where his wants directly conflict with someone else's: He just completely shuts down and acts like he didn't hear them. That's like. 100% in line with the more socially savvy autistic people in my life (including me to some extent lol). I also don't think he's as good at reading people as you seem to think (this is just a difference in interpretation, not trying to say you're wrong!) I just think he knows what generally makes people happy, and sticks with that mostly, often to the detriment of nuance when it comes to people like, say, George.

I am hesitant to commit to Paul being possibly autistic because I am personally allistic. If I tried to essay about that then I would at best say something stupid and at worst say something bigoted. I am dating an autistic NB but that made me aware of how much I don't know about being autistic and being trans so I tend to back off from those topics. I feel relatively confident about Paul because I've had so many friends who autistic in nerd spaces like this one. Paul doesn't remind me of them. I tend to gravitate to autistic people anyway because autistic people don't mind me being blunt so I have more experience than the average person. But ultimately I just can't bring myself to commit to Paul having full blown autism because I'm not qualified to make a judgment like that. I have to commit to what I know. I trample on a lot of people just in my day to day, I don't want to add autistic fans to that list because they go through enough shit irl, I don't want to add to it on this platform. I am not able to make posts saying "autism Paul thinks this way" or "he does this because autism does that." I don't want to make hurtful pronouncements like that.

My interpretation stems from the idea that Paul is heavily self interested. I don't see much of a people pleasing element to him at all or else George wouldn't have made the "pleasantly insincere" comment about him. I think Paul is much more about camouflage and smoothing things over so he, John, and The Beatles (in that order) can have an easier go of things. The newspaper maneuver always reads as a "I'm pointedly ignoring you to make you feel bad about speaking that way to me" to me.

Otoh I'd really love more interpretations of Paul as autistic provided it was autistic fans making them. (I want authenticity not other allistic fans meaning well and getting it wrong like with the Rosie books.) Part of the mismatch here is that the gulf between allistic and autistic people is narrow but deep and communicating across it is hard.

Like in Ghostbusters fandom the character Egon Spengler has been retroactively recognized as autistic because Dan Akyrod got his autism diagnosis as an adult which then influenced the creation of the character Phoebe who is heavily autism coded. That's cool but what's happened in Ghostbusters fandom is that Egon is infantilized quite a bit which runs against his actual character in the original movie. And I have to think that it is because of the gap between allistic and autistic fans that this happens.

Tl;dr anyone can and should believe in autism Paul, my only thing is that it needs to come from an autistic fan because I don't believe in an allistic fan's ability to understand and portray it well, including myself.

he doesn't show that he cares about anyone else besides him, not even for anora HIS FUCKING WIFE (okay it's fake but like come on, anyone would care about their fake wife a little bit), like i can't believe when mark in a interview said that ivan loves/fell in love with anora. it's really hard for me to believe that he even cares about her as a person when his actions don't show the care and love that mark said the character feels. like i genuinely think ivan only sees anora as a means to an end, as a body, you know? maybe because I'm a very actions speak louder than words person and my main love language is acts of service, but to me there's nothing pointing towards ivan loving anora.

oh i think igor feels very sympathetic towards anora, for what i know about him he seems very closed-off but has a heart of gold, he maybe sees someone he cares about in her (maybe himself even) and tries to help as much as he can, but also he strikes me as someone who's very loyal to his boss, because his boss gave him a second chance, so he's in the middle of doing what's right according to his values and doing what's right according to his boss.

BUT at the end i really think he'll follow his heart and be more on anora's side, he'll keep in touch with anora. i think he'll became a big brother figure in ani's life and someone she confides.

reader is 100% a romantic, like i know they'll be happy to just be in silence with who they love and they'll have a stupid smile on their face! they'll cook meals for anora, bakes her favourite sweets even when they're just friends!

i just know reader cooks food for her to take to work, like she be proudly showing up her amazing food and her little dessert to all her coworkers like she would do later on with the ring ivan gave to her. and i think that's nice parallel between who reader is in anora's life amd how they love her and who ivan is in her life and how he shows that he wants her (again i don't think he loves her). i would yap more about this but I'll keep this one short because this is getting too long (I'm sorry): like ivan just has to buy the ring one time, that's it! he wastes his time on anora one time (if he was the one who got out and bought the ring); while reader spends their time cooking for her, searching for recipes that anora will like so she has something healthy and homemade to take to work, reader knows how hard anora's job is, they've seen her so tired physically and mentally, and they know she probably has to eat light but also nutritious enough so she doesn't pass out and anything like it, so hey just use their free time to try new recipes for anora! like reader puts in the time and effort to show they care about ani while ivan only puts his parents money on it.

i've been really on and off with ivan cause sometimes what i'm hearing is endearing (at least for a fictional character lol i would NOT put up w hearing abt a real man doing dumb shit like that). jello in the pool funny enough idea but throwing his money at issues for like 25k in damages is fuck you level of rich boy, like shut up you've never had problems in your lifeee. and the parts that are endearing are probably all mark, he's said in interviews that sean and him talked about how ivan doesn't have any bad intentions and i can see that. (think like peter pan). it doesn't even feel inherently selfish but that he goes to the next fun thing as soon as possible. sex is done? alright, gonna game. bad situation? ugh i don't know how to deal with that i have to bolt. 

the thing is that kids do know how to care. and love. and put things above themselves. if they're taught how to. what's bad about ivan and peter pan is specifically that they're running from consequences, be that even away from people he does care about, contrasted from the other kids that do know when it's time to grow up. ani falls for that in a way, and so does wendy. they'd be kids who matured too quickly in comparison, and feel lighter when peter's around and shows them that fun is good and possible. ivan takes her from a life which is hard, where she has to think way too much about money and making it to the next day, and eliminates that barrier for her. and with his entourage too, i'm not sure on whether they're rich of their own merit as well, but assuming ivan is paying for everyone he's probably used to his money and fun being the only reason people stick around. as well as ani's probably used to her looks/sex being the reason some people stick around.

and in a round about way, the staying US thing is the proof that he loves her.  he's running from his responsibilities already, yeah, but to stay in the US with her, for her, because of her i think is the most he's ever committed to anything. and exclusively too, which is uncharacteristic from a usual hedonistic rich boy character like that, not being a playboy. he could keep hopping countries and party everywhere, the staying is specifically "i want to live without consequences here with you". (NOT THAT I LIKE OR WANNA DEFEND IVAN AT ALL, i do think any love he has isn't true and that's the point, but it is genuine insofar that the both of them believe in it). what they like about each other is that they show each other experiences the other couldn't have had without them.

for igor, i'll say i have to wait and see again. he would know ani's struggles more than ivan does. he would silently care about her, doing little things for her (the way mikey said yuri took care of her on set because he very in character was sweet, more actors being method in nice ways rather than being menaces pls). i think ani is perturbed that she doesn't know what igor wants from her, she doesn't understand someone caring about her for no reason. in a way, it's why ivan's care is easy to accept. igor is a lot harder to read, harder to see his intentions, his reasoning. (this is where i have to try very hard not to talk about the ending so i'll cut myself off)

with x reader, the main question really is "what would it look like to love this character". and ani is both a very genuine, intuitive person that outwardly rejects being cared for because she isn't used to it. an entirely non transactional relationship. i can see ani making jokes that she should pay you back with a lapdance whenever you feed her. filling the tupperware you put the food in with food she tried to make on her own to return the favour. a cycle of both of you gifting and regifting the same container. she gets home so late at night but you'd know she spent hours baking in that tiny kitchen of hers just for you.

Hi! I'm the anon who asked you a few weeks ago if it's valid for wanting to leave my bf of 3 years for only having sex like two times a year.

The problem is he wants to love you on his terms only and that's not love. He gives you affection when he wants to, not when you need it. He's treating you like a friend not a partner. You can love your friends, you just aren't in-love. He's comfortable.

It's like the phrase "the devil you know", it's easier to deal with the shit we've been dealing with then potentially go out and deal with something worse. But you can't let that type of thinking control you or you won't ever be happy, because while sure there is worse out there, there is also better! ALOT BETTER!
