I love that the first hint of Essek and Caleb in their first interaction (Essek explaining the perpetual darkness of Rosohna, Caleb being impressed by the scale of magic, his breathless "that is fascinating" because he's a nerdy wizard and Essek's cunty little "oh there's so much more") isn't even part of the weird dance they do where they're both trying to honeypot the other with magic like in later interactions, Caleb doesn't even know he's a wizard at this point, he just loves magic and for a moment so does Essek

got to the cali episode of c2 in my rewatch and mistakenly read the comments which are a minefield of people not understanding that characters being flawed and hypocritical and unaware of their own shortcomings and not magically fixing themselves when their flaws are pointed out aren't signs of bad characters and is actually very good rp

fucking absurd that this shit isn't scripted.
rotating this and Caleb's belief that he & Essek will separate when Caleb is older in my mind.
i don't think this was ever a consideration, or at least wasn't at the forefront of Liam's mind when he was playing Caleb, bc the PCs understandably try to avoid racism/xenophobia, but I think it's interesting to think about all the things that Caleb would have to unlearn to be with Essek (and vice versa, since theres plenty of propaganda in Xhorhas too). And like, how when Caleb ends their romantic relationship, he's viewing Essek as an elf first & his partner second and giving his human perspective on their lifespan differences more weight than Essek's.
like I don't think the smut novel itself has any bearing on Caleb's feelings, but I think it speaks to the environment he was raised in, & specifically how he was trained as an assassin to kill people like Essek. And while consciously, he knows those views were wrong and believes differently now, I think there will be parts of that upbringing that he'll be unlearning his whole life, and the same goes for Essek.

Matthew Mercer the actor of all time!!!
When Caleb tells Essek that being accepted by Den Thelyss (and subsequently consecuted) must be a great honour, the way Matthew reacts?? "It is." So short and stiff compared to his charming tour guide persona, the way he looks down immediately afterwards, jaw tight, the way he isn't quite able to hide his discontent?? Everything must feel like an attack on him as he is in that moment, they want to ask about his consecution? The one he did not go through with?? The faith he does not prescribe to and actively traded the beacons away to disprove or rather get around???

Yo what if Ludinus is consecuted?
I’m rewatching c2 right now and I’m on ep 57. This is the episode right after Caleb handed over the beacon, and they talk to the Bright Queen about the Luxon and Dunamancy etc.
The language that she and especially Essek use in referencing destiny and being puppets of the gods is beyond similar to the language Ludinus and the Vanguard are using…
What if Ludinus has been around as long as Leylas has via consecution and holds similar motivations and ideals but through a different lense of how to achieve said goals.
The first hour alone of this episode has so much information and lore that I feel relates heavily to c3… hmmmmmm the rabbit hole gets deeper.

tmn's two clerics being the ones haunted by the somnovum is such a tremendous slay to me. something about it. something about healers and religious characters who end up much closer to gods than others are being the ones who also are much closer to The Horrors

Reached ep 100 in M9 rewatch - the initial change in the vibe is still so eerie to me (also, the change between table seating and where everyones' cameras was placed after this ep always throws me off). Can't express how grateful I am for seeing these nerds back at one table for campaign 3

i forgot laura’s pregnancy announcement, marisha sneezing so hard she cracked a rib, them being named The Mighty Nein, them getting their first magic item info card of the campaign, the first mention of The Gentleman, caleb’s “take them out take them out” backstory tease, the first appearance of the Bad Luck Bandits, them pretending to have “extreme syphilis,” them finding out jester's mom's whole deal, “the Ruby of the Sea is the best lay ever,” and the debut of Pumat(s) Sol all happened in the same episode
