I think the instinct to defend 4chan comes from the frequent transmisogynistic tendency to root out any perceived past indiscretion (eg website use) of trans women and use that to “prove” that they are interlopers in the community who should be judged and do not deserve support. I do think there’s a difference between “don’t treat trans women like shit for having used 4chan” and “4chan wasn’t awful” but I do understand the impulse.

I don’t think anyone should be held to their past associations if they’ve changed however it’s the need to defend it where it becomes murky and seems disingenuous is the thing. A huge chunk of people have used 4chan it’s fully reasonable to say people shouldn’t be tied to an echo chamber forever, it’s EXTREMELY unreasonable to claim it was never a unique echo chamber to begin with. It’s kind of like the whole joking about formerly being radicalized into a fascist thing, im not going to ever call for someone being exiled because of their past fascist ideology if they’ve changed (reform innit) but why the fuck would you joke about that? Also inb4 anyone says anything yes I know 4chan is known for having a lot of trans people yes I understand why someone could be defensive in some senses because of that but at a certain point it’s like come on

hello! just wondering if you know of a tutorial for the lines going through gifs? and getting them all to match up? like in these sets /post/714978685858496512 and /post/733101286452559872 also are they overlays or how did you make them? thank you in advance!

hey! so, i've attempted to show you with a little tutorial on how i made lines like the ones here and here, i've not seen one around myself and decided to try this out one day and it didn't go too badly so, i hope this makes sense and helps. so, i'll be explaining and showing you how i did the lines on these gifs:

now, firstly i'm going to assume you know the basics and can create/colour etc a gif, you'll need your base gif ready to go. in this example i've flattened them to frames, but you can do this in timeline as well.

step one: add a new layer on top of the gif/smart object, and set up your brush ready. i personally have used 2px brush, 100px hardness, 100px smoothing and 75% flow;

the flow is the main thing i think that is more down to personal preference, it affects how the line draws/moves and will be down to a little bit of trial and error - i've added below how the lines look at difference levels of flow (no other setting from the above has changed just the flow)

step two: decide where you want your lines to link, i've always done from the centre of the gif but you could want your lines to meet up 100px from the left at the top and exit the gif 100px from the right at the bottom. no matter what, the best thing to do here is to add guides to your gifs. as i'm just going straight from the centre to the centre for every gif i add a guideline at 270px

step three: i recommend testing this all out on a separate canvas first to play around and see how you want your line to look etc, but when you're ready you're good to go. start from when the guideline is and draw your line until where you want it to end, the best way to show you this is on video so i've screen recorded the whole process.

it's honestly pretty straight forward, so i hope this all makes sense, and just have fun with it, i love messing around and drawing 30 versions of the same line until i'm happy with it!!

ALSO, in case you were wondering about the final gif in the wheel of time set, the moving line, that was simply an overlay from this video that i set to screen so the black background disappeared leaving just the line (i stretched/rotated/moved it around get it to start and end where i wanted it to! i just played around with the line thickness when drawing my lines to match as best i could with the line in the overlay!

SO LIKE the unserious reason why i don't yap about the necromancers some more is because i don't think i've said anything that already hasn't been said (the unfair treatment that they're subjected to in ravenwood vs. the spiral, how malistaire's actions indirectly made the lives of his students worse/creating or even heightening ambrose's quiet distaste for necromancy, how the narrative ((understandably but unfortunayely)) largely moves past these characters because they're not the focus of the plot, duncan's ENTIRE CHARACTER, etc.) these are all things that I've touched on before and out of fear that i'd repeat myself every few months i just....... sadly put my favorite characters away BUT.... I WILL SAY THIS......

i feel like if wizard101 was a show that didn't have us as the main focus, i feel like it would be super appropriate to have Malorn or Penny or even Marla be in the young wizard's place as the Savior of the Spiral. I feel like the story would only be enriched from a necromancer's perspective; they're the ones more directly affected by pre-arc 1 situations and it would reveal a side to Ambrose that isn't quite highlighted with us because we're a blank slate - not a set character with a set school (like the Death school).

If Malorn was the young wizard that would be..... oh man. In a series where the fictional setting would have more freedom and options to explore itself rather than its game form, i can really see Duncan becoming one of the series' antagonists and being the perfect foil to Malorn. I already talked about this too but these two guys are PERFECT for each other as narrative parallels and focusing on their unique personalities, skill sets, backstories, relationships with each other and the outside world while also highlighting their glaring similarities would be METAL to see on television. Dare I say it will even give Duncan's "gets recruited into the Schism" arc actual substance and justice rather than the "surprise funny bully man from high school is now your plot twist boss fight and you get to see him squirm and cry pathetically after you beat him up!" thing..........

if Malorn WAS the main character i can already see Penny and Marla being supporting characters, maybe like THE three alongside other wizards like CEREN NIGHTCHANT, Susie and Artur/ maybe even throw Nolan Stormgate in there fuck it! But i definitely, DEFINITELY want to see Wizard101's story told through a necromancer's eyes more than anyone else's. There's just more at stake, more to care about, and more to connect with through the hearts and minds of someone under society's proverbial thumb like that

Haha, well they don’t end up getting a pet per se…but it’s funny you mention Baz because he’s actually the one who owns the most pet-adjacent creature long before Toko even arrives on the ship XD Baz owns a very old model of something called a Skitterbug, which is a small cleaning robot not unlike a roomba. He doesn’t really think much of its existence until Toko begins ‘talking’ to it, despite the little thing only being able to respond with beeps and boops. Once it starts interacting with Toko and performing actions outside of its normal directive, Baz and Gerdie realize its programming is much more advanced than they originally thought (especially for a simple cleaning robot). It’s not a life-changing revelation or anything, but from then on Baz and Gerdie begin treating the robot with a bit more kindness.

I still need to edit/finalize the design, but I imagine the little lady’s gonna look a bit like this!

Also Gerdie owns three small slime creatures for jam-making purposes (think beekeeping and harvesting honey), though they specifically belong to him and stay in his living quarters for safety reasons. They live in specialized enclosures that help maintain their mass/consistency.

tumblr is such a beautiful place because, for instance, long story short, a full-on trio of seemingly unrelated people have hit up my askbox recently, inquiring my opinion as to the terrible but inspiring revolutionary from Victor Hugo's Les Misérables (1862) and the heavy-drinking and argumentative but somewhat warm-hearted cynic from Victor Hugo's Les Misérables (1862), and specifically who would be more likely to unsubtly steal cream cheese from their college cafeteria, and who would be more likely to full-on see the food crime happen while laboring as a cafeteria worker but do absolutely nothing to stop it.

i fully support pondering such Great Questions yourself, about your own OTPs. truly there are worse ways to waste an evening.

anyway, my own thoughts below the cut!

so the thing is, and i know this is a magnificent cop-out but it is unfortunately the truth, this is the rare pairing i ship where you could make a strong argument either way.

like, is enjolras taking shifts in the school cafeteria because his parents cut his tuition money due to his extreme political activism and so he resolutely joins the working class of the college community, only to immediately get so burned out about the (i assume) stringent and somewhat nonsensical rules governing the distribution of cafeteria food? maybe! is grantaire filching the cream cheese for what he will gladly describe to anyone willing to listen (and also to many half-willing to listen) as a "piece of gonzo performance art" which just happens to culminate in the distribution of home-made desserts to his floormates (not that he's got a weird complex about how hard it is to make friends using just his personality)? maybe!

alternately, is grantaire burned out on any customer service-adjacent job you can imagine, from day one? sure! is enjolras out there defiantly trying to gather the supplies to make another course of food for the students who can't afford a full meal plan, like feuilly? yeah, you could make that case, i think!

so yeah, in response to the several(!) people who asked (<3), i think this is the exception to the rule where you could kind of just flip a coin.

Hi! I saw that you're doing ask game asks again (and i do want to hear about a random wip so have a heart ❤️❤️) and that reminded me of the next ask game you did and the fic you teased. (It was something about LBH returning to QJP instead of HHP and watching SQQ grief) is that still being written? (I'm not up to date so I really have no idea what the current status is. It just sounded really interesting)

!!!! hi! yes, i'm still writing it, thank you for sending the heart about it 💕🥺 (also i'm so '!!!' that you remembered it?) the idea you've mentioned comes from this post by @fairsweetlonging (with an addition from @happypeachsludgeflower), so i'm really only playing with some of their ideas and putting them together in a fic format (and if new things happen, new things happen). i didn't know anybody paid attention to my tags so i was only poking at the fic from time to time, just for myself

so far, there are two bits that i especially love about this wip. i'm still at the point where binghe has just come to qing jing, found shen qingqiu at the sword mound, and brought him into the bamboo house. the way i'm approaching this idea is that binghe's come back to check on sqq not for revenge, but to take one last look at his home, he's still very conflicted there. i took it in this direction because a ficlet i had in my drafts (that i will also finish/polish up one day and probably post first) starts at the same point as this wip starts, but binghe is painfully aware that there's no 'home' waiting for him anymore and so doesn't return. the lack or drive for revenge might change during rewriting, i'll see where it takes me!

anyway, one of the bits is binghe feeling very bitter because he comes into the bamboo house early in the morning, hiding his presence, only to find shizun's bed empty and two (!) tea cups left on shizun's table 😅 uh oh.

and the second bit is here in this snippet that i enjoy rereading and poking at, it's binghe getting ready to transfer some qi to sqq after his near(?) deviation and having some bittersweet reflections:

Luo Binghe had wished oh so very hard that his energy had been just as in tune with his master's, if not more! More compatible! And he would have given Shizun all of it! Now he knew that Shizun had made the right choice in refusing his offers. Transferring all one's qi into the body of another person would harm both the giver and the recipient. It wouldn't have mattered if Binghe had been hurt, but if Shizun—when Binghe had just been trying to help— He’d have never forgiven himself for it.

now, yes, she is absolutely adorable, but the reason it's my favourite poisonous mushroom is because she looks so innocent.

but, nope - the rosy bonnet is mildly poisonous & causes stomach upset if ingested. there's a bunch more info on her here for FOTD #001 :-)
