random wife!sevika headcanons
Tumblr media
tw: slightly suggestive, may be ooc, brief mention of murder!, kids!!, mention of scissoring
a/n: bro i needed to write something to get out of my writers block so yeah here I am. also these are a random mix of before and after the marriage and also more random things so yeah enjoy!
Tumblr media
wife!sevika who’s favorite moments are pretty much any that include you but who really loves the ones are where she gets to oil your scalp and scrape her fingers through your hair to work her magic and who ABSOLUTELY would and goes out of her way to find different and/or new ways to style it.
wife!sevika whos big on your hair, body and skin care in general
wife!sevika who’s always the one reminding you to eat, to drink (borderline has to jokingly threaten you about it), take your meds etc even though she’s also the one who tends to forget to do so herself- more than you
wife!sevika who tries really hard to regulate her bad drinking for you but who you also try to convince to try and do it for herself as well; it’s not something that’s going to change in a day but she is making progress, and so baby steps it is.
wife!sevika who you sometimes share cigarillo/cigarette with. she still smokes a little something from time to time but compared to before she met you she’s practically clean
wife!sevika who is obviously touch starved yet still remembers how much she avoided your hugs when you first started dating and who now can’t go a day without feeling your entirety press against her- you guys really have come a long way
wife!sevika who snores-
wife!sevika who…of course shed a little tear when you said yes at the altar and who may or may not have been trembling a little when it was time to put the ring on the finger
wife!sevika who’s voice cracked and hiccuped because of the salty tears that danced on her waterline when it was her turn to say her vows
wife!sevika who thinks that anything suits you and who you would trust with your life to style you- (even if the woman somehow were to develop alzheimer she’d still be able to remember what aesthetic/vibe you bring to the function) and who happens to thrift things that she believes would go with your fashion- and they usually do!
wife!sevika who usually has something to tie your hair with
wife!sevika who naturally smells addictively warm and spicy, like ginger, combined with fresh and fruity notes like mandarins or apples…very specific yes, but I wouldn’t know how else to describe it
wife!sevika who knows you better than yourself; “you shouldn’t be eating these, they upset your stomach last time, remember?”, “i warned you that you’d be forgetting that- honey you know me, of course I still brought it with me”, “you really just forgot your social security number? really? *sighs* well it’s-“😭
wife!sevika who somehow (wants to believe) believes that pretty much anything suits but if you were to actually ask her what dress specifically she likes to see you in, it would be open back dresses, especially if you have a back tattoo (has her drooling and she WILL be checking you out) she thinks that it simply looks elegant and commands attention, and not always necessarily in a sexual way
wife!sevika who loves to see you in her blouses. they’re oversized on you of course, but that’s what adds onto the look AND it only makes you look cuter in her eyes
wife!sevika who is STRESSED whenever your marriage anniversary comes around bc the chances for things to fuck up are always very low but never 0
wife!sevika who’s not the best with texting (she takes 2-3 business days to respond to everyone except for you- she takes a day) and prefers to call you directly
wife!sevika who is victim of using the dad emoji “👍🏽” she means well and you know she does
wife!sevika who you facetime religiously and who you screenshot whenever she does something you find cute or silly
wife!sevika who had many engagement gifts for you; one of them being a collection of physical copies and albums of your favs and who feared that maybe you’d be disappointed in her choice to do so- a bit old school yes but you absolutely loved it
wife!sevika who doesn’t or rarely ever wears the glasses that were prescribed for her even though she probably should…
wife!sevika who you do ghibli movie marathons with and who absolutely despises horror movies
wife!sevika who always immediately fixes things for you, doesn’t matter where you are or what it is, she notices directly; got lipstick on your teeth? she tells you right away before you can leave the house- your necklace isn’t sitting right? she’d explode in an instant if she doesn’t fix it right away… you just bled through your pants- she gotchu
wife!sevika who simply can’t help but kiss you when you least expect it, totally on random places and who sometimes even bites down just enough to have you make some sort of noise; you reciprocate
wife!sevika who when asked how she pulled you says that she honestly has no idea tbh 😭
wife!sevika who loves your repeated chaste kisses on her cheek when she’s occupied with work or doing something she needs to seriously focus on
wife!sevika who freaks out a little (more in a *😕* way) when you’re outside and not wearing your wedding band, hers is practically burnt into her skin; people NEED to know that you’re taken, ok?
wife!sevika who if asked what her favorite body part about you is, would probably respond your back and your neck
wife!sevika who despite wanting for you to simply stay home and be her (extremely spoiled and pampered) housewife, respects and even admires your choice to work and bring money home as well, if that is what you want
wife!sevika who’s a fan of licorice and who you always give yours to when eating those candy mixes
wife!sevika who likes to keep her hands on your belly because it's always warm- well, apparently you're always warm when she's around
wife!sevika who…unfortunately (or fortunately) would back the worst of your wrongs even if it meant that you need to get rid of a body; as long as the blood on you isn’t your own, she’s ready to take care of the mess
wife!sevika who wouldn’t tell you about the police asking about the disappearance about of someone- can’t have you stressing out over things she’s already handled
wife!sevika who feels like she should be publicly executed whenever she makes you seriously mad and receives the silent treatment but who always gives you the space you need
wife!sevika who’s a very knowledgeable tea enjoyer and who always carries some with her
now this is really subjective but…wife!sevika who likes erykah badu??? also wife!sevika who claims not to care about celebrity drama yet still stands in the doorway whenever you watch wendy wiliam’s show (my dad was like this with my mom goodbye), huffing and clicking her tongue at the gossip
wife!sevika who doesn’t really hate cleaning after you, lowkey enjoys it but would never straight up admit it
wife!sevika who will NOT have you clowning her for still keeping her Snoopy plushy in bed, matter fact, where is yours??
wife!sevika who makes her Snoopy plushie face the wall whenever y’all get hot and busy-
wife!sevika who never throws any of Jinx’s, Isha’s or your gifts away; especially when it’s something silly or useless
also if you guys have kids I feel like she’d be more of a “they didn’t teach us this way at school” parent and you’d be a “they didn’t teach us this at all” parent :’))
this is probably for people with a multitude of piercings but wife!sevika who you had thinking about getting more piercings herself…maybe even a little tattoo…? and let’s assume you’re a piercer/tattoo artist and you get to choose whatever for her *cough cough* tongue piercing *cough cough*
wife!sevika who legit wanted to die when she realized having a tongue piercing would mean no eating you out and kissing you for the first 6 weeks😭😭
wife!sevika who thinks that stretch marks look like the reflection of mild waves on the sands deep end when the sun shines through...you've never felt insecure about your own ever since she shared that with you
wife!sevika who still can’t believe that she’s actually married to you and reminds you every even how grateful she is for you even when you’re not in the best of moods
wife!sevika who instinctively wears that smug grin of hers whenever you guys get a little flirty and your kids go “ewwwwwwww🫣” and pulls you in by the waist to rest her chin on top of your head after sharing a short lived yet passionate kiss, her loud and raspy laugh resonating throughout the space.
wife!sevika who turns to kiss your ankle when you guys scissor
wife!sevika with whom you’ve developed this habit of sneaking your hand around her forderarm and wife!sevika spoils your children a lot, like A LOT since she didn’t have that privilege when she was younger
wife!sevika who instead of using the "you got mcdonald's money?" method to discourage your kids from being such huge fans of fastfood, has them cooking with her, explaining what food/spice is responsible for what and soon enough, they don't want to eat junk anymore, they prefer the food that they make as a team with their mom. she teaches them to be happy and satisfied with their cooking: the kids do want burgers and fries? no worries, mama sevika will find the time to make some with your babies.
wife!sevika who kisses and sometimes even licks the palm of your hand for no specific reason
wife!sevika who your parents had a hard time finding valid reasons to dislike and who may or may not have been overwhelmed with her blatant display of being unapologetically butch
wife!sevika who has to make sure all her tasks are done for the day and the ones to come or else she won’t be able to sleep in peace, you had to drag her back to bed on multiple occasions already
wife!sevika who picks up on your own habits as well; cleaning your shared home isn’t done until you have incense burning and its scent flowing throughout your house/apartment
wife!sevika who occasionally buys herself a happy meal because I said so-

Okay Sam loves everyone in the Pitt dearly - they are her family.
But the OR girlies Garcia and Walsh - they are her girls night, get into some fun mischief, don’t talk about work just have fun friends.
Sam is just basically loved by everyone
💯 yes! I love this and because this was such a fun idea I have some thoughts!
~~~~~
- Jack finds the 3 of them in his kitchen before he leaves for a shift “You know, I have nightmares that start this exact same way”
- Yolanda is sitting on the counter drinking his whiskey
- They are dressed up! Like dressed up dressed up because they wear scrubs pretty much every day of their lives
- Jack’s a little put out because his wife looks TOO GOOD and she’s going out without him, but he notices she’s got her ring on (Not the silicone one, not the first one he could barely afford, the good one he bought her after he finished residency) and he always loves to see her wear it.
- Sam makes sure he knows where they’ll be and promises to text him if they go somewhere else
- Jack “Have fun, be careful. Remember I don’t get off until seven so it’ll be a long wait for bail money.” Emery “you need to let that go it was years ago. Plus, they didn’t even actually book us.”
- Yolanda “don’t worry dad, we’ll be on our best behavior”
- Jack grumbles to Sam “I love your friends.” She just smiles, ignores his sarcasm and runs her hands up his chest “just remember, it’s your fault I met them.”
- Sam tastes like his whiskey when he kisses her good bye and that tells him exactly how the nights going to go
- Yolanda hurts the waiters feelings at the restaurant by correcting his pronunciation of chile rellano
- Someone buys them a round of shots at the bar and when he bings them over Sam pulls out test strips and shrugs “you never know” Emery “thanks go away now” Yolanda *shoo hand gesture*
- A group of guys ask if they’d like to play pool. 10 minutes later Emery and Yolanda are describing step by step and in detail how to amputate a finger (just because one of the poor guys asked Emery what she did at work today) while Sam runs the table and takes all their money
- They find a cigar lounge where Yolanda smokes a cigar and flirts with bartender (which pisses off every 40+ white guy in the building) while a “totally was in the special forces guy ” tries to impress Sam and Emery who pick his story apart piece by piece, obviously he picked the wrong women to try that game on.
- Dancing. All the dancing.
- Yolanda flirts with anyone and everyone
- Emery is still in her post divorce man eater phase which is entertaining for all
- Sam looks like the most approachable by far but honestly it’s just a trap
- Sam will also hustle darts and then make sketchy jokes about being good with needles
- They give a girl in the bathroom a drunk pep talk about not giving up on med school. She’s doing great and shouldn’t feel guilty about taking a break to have fun!
- It’s about midnight when Jack starts getting inappropriate text messages from his wife.
- He checks Sam’s location quickly just before 2am, before the ER gets slammed with the rush after the bars close, and sees they’re at a Waffle House. Bad sign. He also wonders how much that Uber cost.
- He gets the notification from their security system around 3am followed by a text from Sam that says she made it home
- He doesn’t get to check his phone again until damn near 6 in the morning. And that’s probably a good thing because shortly after she got home Sam had sent a “wish you weren’t at work” text with a video attachment that he won’t open until he’s in his truck ready to leave
- When he does finally get home she’s passed out and there’s a nearly empty saline bag hanging on her corner of the headboard. Jack smiles to himself as he goes to unhook her from it and he can’t help but find it kind of sexy that even absolutely shitcanned she can hit a vein on the first try and run an IV on herself.
- She left her phone on his side of the bed and he opens their group chat to double check Walsh and Garcia made it home before he plugs it in to charge.
→ PAIRING : Med Student!Hoseok x F!Reader (Brother’s Best Friend AU)
→ RATING: Mature, 18+, suggestive tones.
→ DATE POSTED: February 16th, 2025.
→ SUMMARY: You’ve spent four years convincing yourself that your brother’s best friend is just being nice when he remembers your coffee order, quizzes you on neuroanatomy, or lets his touch linger a second too long. Because there’s no way that the golden boy of Seoul National’s medical program might actually be flirting with you. Especially when he keeps saying things that could be perfectly innocent… if only he didn’t say them in that voice.
→ TAGS: second person perspective, female reader, medical school au, brother’s best friend trope, age gap (4 years), pining, touch starved, overthinking reader, confident hoseok, gentle dom hoseok, medical terminology as flirting (lmao), study sessions, domestic moments, innocent (but not really), plausible deniability king hoseok, anxiety, internal monologue, guilty crushes, subtle teasing, emotional edging, gentle manipulation, praise kink undertones, intellectual attraction, competency kink, hand fixation, voice kink, medical intern hoseok, first year med student reader, home setting, casual intimacy, unresolved sexual tension (for now), secret attraction, nervous rambling, self-doubt, intrusive thoughts, anatomy lessons with ulterior motives, competent hoseok, flustered reader, close proximity, accidental touches that aren’t accidents, virgin!reader.
→ CONTENT in this chapter: Hoseok being dangerously thorough with medical demonstrations, vagus nerve "research" that's definitely just for science, medical terminology as foreplay, tongue depressors used for educational purposes (obviously), running into him at home after avoiding him for weeks, and getting cornered with the softest threats imaginable. | medical examination kink, medical equipment, tongue depressors, medical demonstrations, oral fixation, authority kink, power dynamics, educational roleplay, avoidance to attraction, running clothes, post-workout tension, soft threats, vadal nerve stimulation, clinical setting, hospital scenes, medical authority, vagus nerve, autonomic responses.
→ MASTERLIST | TAGLIST REQ | WORDCOUNT: 2k
→ MINI SERIES: NEXT | PREVIOUS
→ A/N: You ever write something and think "maybe I should go to church"? Yeah. So. This happened. Apparently my brain decided "what if we took medical equipment and made it unholy?" Dedicated to everyone who's ever had an attractive medical professional tell them to "open wide" and died a little inside. Also thanks to my one (1) med student friend who had to answer way too many questions about vagus nerve testing without knowing why I was asking. I'm so sorry.
The fluorescent lights hum overhead as you hover outside Room 317, clutching the neurology textbook to your chest like armor.
You shouldn’t be here.
Caleb’s text still glows on your phone screen:
𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫: 𝙷𝚘𝚜𝚎𝚘𝚔 𝚜𝚊𝚢𝚜 𝚑𝚎’𝚜 𝚙𝚛𝚘𝚘𝚏𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚍 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚟𝚊𝚐𝚞𝚜 𝚗𝚎𝚛𝚟𝚎 𝚙𝚊𝚙𝚎𝚛. 𝙶𝚘 𝚋𝚘𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚛 𝚑𝚒𝚖 𝚊𝚝 𝚂𝙽𝚄𝙷.
You count the ceiling tiles (twelve) before knocking.
The room smells like antiseptic and the bergamot tea he drinks during night shifts.
“Chip.” Hoseok doesn’t look up from the EKG strip he’s analyzing, surgical penlight tucked behind his ear. “You’re blocking the light.”
You sidestep the portable otoscope charging by the door. The space is all sharp edges—stainless steel cabinets, framed diplomas, his white coat draped over the back of a chair still warm from his body.
“Page 214,” he says, sliding your marked-up paper across the desk. Red ink bleeds through the margins. Insufficient clinical correlation circles your thesis on autonomic nervous system responses.
Your throat tightens. “I cited six studies—”
“Case studies aren’t lived experience.” He finally meets your eyes, thumb brushing the penlight. “You can’t quantify a gag reflex through PubMed.”
The air shifts when he stands.
“Sit.” He nods to the exam table, its crinkled paper sheet protesting as you perch on the edge.
“I’m not your patient,” you say too quickly.
His laugh is all teeth. “Would you prefer I bill your insurance?”
The overhead exam light clicks on. You flinch at the sudden brightness.
“Relax.” His knuckle grazes your jawline as he adjusts the lamp. “Just demonstrating research methodology.”
He rolls the stool closer, knees bracketing yours.
“Let’s say…” His penlight traces the column of your throat, the cool beam skimming over your pulse point. “You wanted empirical data on vagus nerve stimulation.”
Your traitorous pulse jumps under the light.
“Theoretical,” you rasp.
“Mm.” The stool creaks as he leans in. “Hypothetically—if a patient claimed nausea—” A flicker of movement, then the glint of polished steel between his fingers. A tongue depressor. “—would you take their word for it? Or verify with a hands-on assessment?”
His meaning is clinical. Technically. In medical exams, the vagus nerve can be tested by pressing a tongue depressor against the back of the throat, triggering the gag reflex. A strong response might suggest hypersensitivity. A weak or absent one? Neurological impairment.
But that’s not what he’s asking. Not really.
The textbook slides from your lap, thudding against the floor.
His thumb finds the hinge of your jaw, applying just enough pressure to tilt your head back.
“You need proper mentorship,” he murmurs.
“Mentorship.” The word barely forms.
“Mm. Palatal anatomy. Gag reflex modulation.” His nail scrapes the tender skin behind your earlobe, where the auricular branch of the vagus nerve lies—just another pressure point, another test. “Essential for any aspiring neurologist.”
Overhead, the Code Blue alarm blares—a real emergency, somewhere beyond this room. Neither of you move.
“This is—”
“Academic?” He tilts your chin up with the tongue depressor, just shy of pressure. “Ethically sanctioned? Necessary for your… what was it? Comprehensive understanding of brain-gut axis pathways?”
Your own citation, thrown back at you, laced with velvet implication.
His pager vibrates against the desk.
A reminder. A warning.
“Well, Chip?” He pockets the device, but his eyes never leave your mouth. “D’you want to practice?”
Somewhere down the hall, a defibrillator charges. The crash cart rattles past the door. And you—
You’re already nodding, fingers curling in the paper sheet as he snaps fresh gloves over those surgeon’s hands.
“For science,” you whisper.
His smile cuts through the antiseptic air. “Naturally.”
"Open." His voice is clinically detached as he positions the tongue depressor. "Wider."
You comply, heart thundering as he leans closer to examine your oral cavity. The exam light catches his glasses, making his expression unreadable.
"Good girl. Now stick your tongue out—just like that." His free hand steadies your chin. "Interesting. Your tongue control is quite developed."
Heat floods your face. You try to respond but can't with your mouth open.
"Shh. Focus on breathing through your nose." His thumb traces your jawline. "We'll start shallow. See how much you can take before the reflex triggers."
The metal slides deeper.
"Swallow for me."
You do, fighting the urge to gag.
"Again." His voice stays perfectly level. "Notice how your throat accommodates the intrusion? That's neuroplasticity at work."
Your thighs press together involuntarily. He continues as if he hasn't noticed.
"Most people choke at this depth. But you..." The depressor ventures further. "Remarkable control. Have you practiced this before?"
You make a strangled sound of denial.
"Breathing's irregular," he notes. "Try to relax your throat. Yes—just like that. Let it slide deeper."
Your hands grip the hem of your shirt as saliva pools in your mouth.
"Fascinating response." His tone remains purely academic. "The stimulation is triggering excess secretion. Perfectly natural biological reaction."
Your face burns hotter. There's no way he doesn't notice how you're squirming.
He glances down—just once—at where your thighs are clenched together. A gentle smile curves his lips.
"Tell me, Chip..." The words float soft as gauze. "Do you always get this wet during medical examinations?"
Your eyes go wide.
"Excess salivation," he clarifies, innocent as morning. "It's a common autonomic response to oral stimulation. Though yours seems... particularly robust."
The paper crinkles beneath you as you shift.
"We should document this," he muses. "For research purposes, of course."
The depressor glints under clinical light as he presses it deeper.
“Don’t fight it,” he murmurs, thumb settling at the corner of your mouth. “Relax your epiglottis.”
You try. You try. But all you taste is sterile metal and the faint salt of his skin where his thumbprint ghosts your lower lip. His thighs tighten imperceptibly against yours, a human vise steadying your traitorous tremors.
“There we go.” His voice drops to a velvet hush, the kind nurses use with combative dementia patients. “Good girl.”
Your pulse thrums where his thumb rests—so close to slipping past your teeth, so close to feeling the heat of your tongue.
His nail catches on the swell of your lip, dragging downward as if testing pliancy.
“Fascinating,” he murmurs, though you’re not sure what he’s referring to anymore—the depressor sinking another fraction of an inch, or the way your throat flutters around it. “Your vagal response is… delayed.”
You whimper.
He cocks his head, penlight sweeping across your uvula. “Pain?”
You shake your head minutely, terrified to dislodge his thumb.
“Discomfort?”
Another shake.
“Then what?”
The question hangs between you, syrupy and dangerous.
His thumb presses harder, blanching the pink of your lip white. You can’t tell if he’s pushing the depressor or if your body is pulling it deeper, some primal part of you craving the stretch.
His exhale ghosts your cheek. “Saliva production’s increased thirty percent since we began.”
You’re drowning in it—a slick, shameful pool gathering under your tongue, threatening to spill.
“Swallow.”
You obey, throat working around cold steel.
“Again.”
The third time, a bead escapes the corner of your mouth. His thumb swipes it away before it can fall, the pad rough against your chin.
“Remarkable,” he breathes, rotating the depressor slowly. “No gag yet. How far do you think—”
His glasses slip.
It’s barely noticeable—a millimeter descent along the bridge of his nose—but his whole body stills.
For one fractured second, you swear his demeanor falters: pupils blown black behind smudged lenses, lips pressed into a bloodless line, tendons standing rigid in his neck.
Then he’s back—gentle, smiling, Hoseok—retracting the depressor with a soft click.
“Clumsy me,” he chuckles, adjusting his frames. “Should’ve used the head strap.”
You don’t mention how his hand shakes. You don’t mention the splintered wood where he gripped the depressor too hard.
You must be imagining things.
You must be making correlations where there’s none.
He checks his pager, all brisk professionalism. “Duty calls. You did well today, Chip.”
Chip. The nickname now lands between your thighs.
You nod, swiping at your damp chin. His gaze follows the movement, lingering on your glistening fingers.
“Here.” He offers a tissue—crisp, folded—with a smile that crinkles his eyes. “For the salivation.”
You take it. He doesn’t let go immediately, fingertips brushing yours.
“We’ll continue next week,” he says, and it’s not a question.
The door sighs shut behind him.
Left alone, you stare at the ruined depressor. The wood’s fractured where his grip faltered, grooves carved by clenched fingers. You press a thumb into the deepest dent, imagining the force required—the control overridden.
Down the hall, his laughter floats through an open doorway, warm and easy as he chats with a colleague.
Normal. Harmless.
You bite the tissue between your teeth, tasting bergamot and salt and lies.
Tumblr media
Your lungs burn as you push through the apartment door, endorphins still singing through your veins.
The run helped—three miles of pavement pounding your inappropriate thoughts into submission. Three miles of not thinking about surgical hands or tongue depressors or—
"Morning, Chip."
You freeze.
The water bottle slips from your grip, hitting the floor with a hollow thud.
Because there he is—Hoseok—lounging on your couch like he belongs there, like he hasn't been haunting your dreams for weeks, like you haven't been actively fleeing every time you catch a glimpse of his white coat in hospital corridors.
"I—" Your voice cracks. "Caleb didn't say..."
"He's in the shower." Hoseok's smile is gentle. Always gentle. "You've been busy lately."
It's not an accusation. His tone is light, conversational. But something in the way he says it—in the careful way he watches you over the rim of his coffee mug—makes your stomach drop.
"Yeah, I..." You scramble for an excuse. "Classes."
"Mm." He sets his mug down with deliberate care. "Interesting. Because I asked about your attendance."
Your heart stops.
"Just checking in," he continues, voice honey-sweet. "Since you missed three anatomy labs."
The air feels too thick.
You're suddenly aware of how you must look—flushed from running, hair escaping your ponytail, compression leggings clinging to every curve.
His eyes track a bead of sweat rolling down your neck.
"I—had other commitments."
"Did you?" He tilts his head, expression perfectly concerned. "Because Dr. Park mentioned you've been switching sections. Always picking labs when I'm not assisting."
Fuck.
"That's not—" You swallow hard. "It's not like that."
"No?" He stands, and you realize with dawning horror that he's blocking your escape route to the hallway. "Then what's it like, Chip?"
The nickname lands like a physical touch. You back up until your spine hits the door.
"Because it seems," he continues, voice impossibly soft, "like you're avoiding me."
"I'm not—"
"Three weeks." He takes a step closer. "Three weeks of missed labs. Declined study sessions. Running away every time I visit your brother."
Your chest feels tight. "I haven't been—"
"Nice outfit, by the way."
The compliment throws you off-balance.
He's still smiling, still gentle, but there's something else there—something that makes your thighs press together unconsciously.
"The color suits you." His eyes drift lower. "Though I wonder if you're getting enough circulation. You're flushed."
You're not flushed from running anymore.
"I should—" You gesture vaguely toward your room. "Shower."
"Of course." He steps aside, ever-courteous. "Wouldn't want you catching cold."
You bolt past him, careful not to brush against his chest. But his voice follows you down the hall:
"Oh, and Chip?"
You freeze, hand on your doorknob.
"Next time you skip labs?" The smile is audible in his voice. "I'll have to schedule a private make-up session. For your academic benefit, of course."
The door closes behind you with a click that sounds like a threat.
You slide down against it, pressing your thighs together as your hand creeps beneath the waistband of your leggings. Because you're weak. Because you're stupid. Because even his threats sound like kindness, and you're going to hell for the way that makes you feel.
In the living room, you hear him laugh at something Caleb says. Normal. Friendly. Like he didn't just pin you to a wall with words alone.
Your fingers slip through embarrassing wetness as you bite your lip to stay quiet.
Great. Another dinner party. I swear my roommate is trying to kill me.
“Come on. It'll be fun, Decaf!”
“You know I hate that nickname, right?”
Claudia chuckles, reaching out to squeeze my arm. “Then stop being so-” she gestures with her free hand “-blah.”
“Ouch.”
Claudia sighs. “You know what I mean. Ever since Dan you just haven’t been..the same.”
I stiffen at the mention of my ex’s name. “He put me through hell, Claudia.”
She nods, placing her hand back on my arm in a placating gesture. “No, of course! He was an asshole! But you shouldn’t stop living your life because of him.”
I pinch the bridge of my nose, exhaling loudly. “I know that. But I just…need some time. And having a dinner party every other weekend is not helping.”
She blows a raspberry with her tongue. “You know you love my parties. Besides, they help you loosen up.”
They don’t. I pretend to drink while my friends get drunk, eventually leaving when the party gets too much to handle. It’s not that they’re mean or anything. I just don’t enjoy being the only sober person in a room full of inebriated people.
“And besides, Marcos specifically requested your famous tiramisu for dessert!” She gives me a pointed look, a smirk tugging at the corners of her mouth.
“I don’t-”
“We can go shopping tonight! Maybe Marcos can come over to uh, help.” She winks at me, and that smirk finally pops up.
“I’ll make the dessert but I’m not going. I mean it this time, Claudia.”
Tumblr media
I sigh, looking at my reflection in the mirror as I smooth down my simple black dress. I say no and somehow I always end up going. How does she do that?
The doorbell rings and I hear the faint excited tone of Claudia welcoming someone in. I do one last quick hair check and force a smile on my face, taking a moment to look in the mirror to make sure it doesn’t look too forced before I head downstairs, closing my door behind me.
“Decaf! There you are! Marcos is in the kitchen. Why don’t you help him with the wine he brought?” Claudia turns to put Marcos’s coat and umbrella on the coat stand, Marcos anticipating the rain that’s forecasted to come at some point.
“Wine isn’t really my-”
“There she is!” Marcos pops his head out of the kitchen, flashing me a brilliant smile. “Could you get the wine opener for me?”
Fake smile affixed, I nod. “Sure.” I follow him into the kitchen, turning to glare at Claudia over my shoulder who smiles and gestures towards Marcos before turning back to answer the next knock at the door.
I grab the automatic wine opener from the drawer, Marcos smiling at me as I hold it up. “Thanks so much, D!” Well, at least it was better than Decaf. Even though I knew he knew where the opener was.
“Of course. Do you remember how to work this thing?”
“I think so.” He takes the wine opener from me, gently brushing his fingers against mine in a not so subtle hint of flirting. He affixes the opener on the bottle and presses the button, watching as the electric opener does its thing.
It’s not that I don’t like Marcos. He’s attractive, nice, deep hazel eyes, and obviously likes me. He’s smart too, starting up his own bio med tech company with just an idea and a promise. I could be content with him, I guess. If it wasn’t for this odd feeling at the back of my brain about him, something I could never pinpoint exactly. Even so, I’m just not attracted to him no matter how hard I tried. And I promised myself after Dan that I wouldn’t settle just so I didn’t feel lonely anymore.
“You look beautiful tonight, D. That dress fits you perfectly.”
I smile, knowing it doesn’t quite reach my eyes. “Thanks, Marcos. How’s work? The prototype coming along?”
He smiles and launches into a long winded explanation of what exactly was going on as he follows me around the kitchen, helping me set the food on the table while Claudia pours wine and passes out hors d'oeuvres for the other guests - there are about 12 of us total. He’s cute when he talks so passionately, but again I don’t feel any connection. And the feeling at the back of my brain scratches at me again, but I push it down, putting another smile on my face.
Dinner starts, an appetizer of vegetable soup ladeled into bowls. Claudia is every bit the chef her mother is and more, making even the simplest dishes delectable. When the roast comes, a recipe passed down several generations in her family, another knock raps at the door. Claudia looks around at everyone, mentally counting before looking at me, her eyebrows raised in a are you expecting someone? Question. I shake my head, Claudia starting to push her chair back but I stand, placing my napkin on the side of my plate.
“I got it, Claud.”
Conversations resume behind me as I leave the room, walking down the hall to the front door. A quick glance out of the peephole shows me a man, silky button up shirt with a print of random brushes strokes stretching across his broad shoulders as he puts a cigarette out on the front steps, pushing his shoe into it. I slide the lock back and crack the door open, his eyes snapping up to my face and the air rushes from my lungs when I meet his gaze. Dark brown eyes bore into mine and he cocks his head slightly to the side, smiling slightly. Oh shit is he wearing two chains?
“Good evening, miss.”
Oh shit I hadn’t said a word.
“Oh. Uh, hi. Can I help you?”
He smiles a little wider, tossing his thumb over his shoulder. “My car stalled and my phone is dead. Could I come in and call someone?”
I don’t entirely believe his story, but something in his eyes makes my brain go fuzzy and a warmth I haven’t felt in a long time start between my legs.
“S-sure. Come on in.” I open the door wider and he smiles at me, nodding as he walks past.
“Thanks. I wasn’t sure anyone would be home. Seems a lot of people are away for the weekend.”
“Oh not really. People around here don’t actually live here. It’s their second homes.” In fact, ours was Claudia’s parent’s second home. Which is the only way I could afford a place this nice.
“Ah. That makes sense.” We stand in the entryway, his eyes scanning my face with that little smile still playing at his lips. It’s several long moments before I realize I’m the one who should be talking.
“Oh! Uh, can I take your coat….” It’s then I realize he doesn’t have one, not even carrying one.
He chuckles. “I think I’m good. But thank you for the offer.” The lights hit the chains around his neck and I swallow hard, wondering what it would be like to feel those chains smack me in the face over and over and-
Laughter erupts from the dining hall and..oh shit I never asked his name.
I tell him my name. “But you can call me D.”
“What’s that short for?”
“I…don’t want to say.”
“That bad, huh? I’ve had some bad nicknames in my time.”
“Oh yeah?”
“Yeah. But my name is Lucien.” He extends his hand and I shake it, melting internally as I feel how large his hand his, how warm, and my brain wanders away on the thot train of exactly what I want those hands to do. Another round of laughter from the dining room breaks my trance and I give my head a little shake, dropping his hand.
“Dinner party,” I gesture down the hall towards the dining room.
“Ah. I thought you just dressed beautifully for fun.”
I can feel the heat in my cheeks and I glance away, tucking hair behind my ear before looking back at him. “I uh…you said your phone is dead?”
“Oh. Yeah.” He pulls it from his pocket, turning it to show me the blank screen.
“I have a charger. Come, I’ll let you use it and then you can come have some food if you’d like?”
“Oh I don’t want to impose.”
“It’s no bother. Really.” I let my hand rest on his arm, giving it a small squeeze. Who even am I right now?
His eyes flick between mine before he nods. “Lead the way.”
I yell to Claudia that I’m getting my charger and she doesn’t question it, diving right back into whatever story she’s telling as I lead Lucien up the stairs. To my bedroom. What am I doing right now? Before I can think further, I’m at my door, opening the handle and crossing to my night stand, pulling the end out of my own phone and extending my hand. “Here. Let me charge it for you.”
He hesitates a moment before placing his phone in my hand. “I appreciate it, D.”
I plug in his phone and open mine. “Do you have a preferred mechanic?”
“For what?”
“Y-your car?”
“Oh! Right! Uh sure. Can I just?” He makes to grab my phone and I let him, hiding a smirk when I notice that the tips of his ears are red. He taps away at my phone and holds it up to his ear, ordering a mechanic to his car.
“Hey, what neighborhood is this?”
“Destiny Falls.”
“Destiny Falls….great…thanks.” He taps the screen and hands me back my phone. “Thanks.”
I take the phone from him, feeling his fingers touch mine, a chill running down my arm and straight between my legs. “N-no worries.”
He stares at me for a long moment, his eyes moving down my body and back up. “You mentioned dinner?”
“Shit! Sorry! Yeah, uh this way.”
He follows me back out and down the stairs. I can feel his eyes on my ass and so I put an extra emphasis on my walk, an extra sway in my hips and I swear I hear a small groan coming from him.
“Hhhm?” I ask.
“What? Oh, I uh, I’m hungry.”
I open the door to the dining room, Lucien following me in. Everyone turns their heads to look, Claudia’s eyes moving furiously between us both before she stands. “Who’s this, Decaf?”
I widen my eyes at her, willing her to never use that nickname again. “This is Lucien. His car broke down a couple blocks away and no one else is home. His phone died so he couldn’t call anyone. He’s going to wait here for the mechanic.”
Lucien holds up his hand. “Hi. Thank you for allowing me into your home.”
Claudia smiles, waving him up. “Of course! Are you hungry? Let me get you a plate.”
“Oh I don’t want to impose.”
“Nonsense! Decaf, could you get him a plate and a chair? Marcos, scootch down a bit and we can put Lucien’s chair at the end.”
I look over at Marcos, who’s eyes are narrowed at Lucien, a hard look in them.
Men.
I roll my eyes and turn towards the kitchen, motioning for Lucien to follow me. “Come on. I need those hands.” It’s not until we’re in the kitchen when I realize what I said.
“So. You need my hands, doll?”
“I meant for the chair, but we’ll see if I can find another use for them.” What the fuck did I just say?
He chuckles, his eyes darkening. “I’m sure you’ll find me more than willing to help with whatever you want me for.”
Fuck, he’s looking at me and he has to know what he said. Lucien takes a few steps towards me, stepping inside the comfortable distance between strangers. Does he know that the heat between my thighs is almost unbearable at this point? I’m tempted to get him seated and go take care of myself before I get into trouble.
“I-”
“Hey, D. Need any help?” Marcos had come through the door. I jump back, startled. Why do I feel guilty? I don’t owe Marcos anything.
“Hey Marcos. No, I think we got it.”
“Here, Lucien. Let me show you where the spare chairs are.”
Lucien looks down at me and winks before following Marcos. “After you.”
I make Lucien a plate of food and bring it out to the table, the conversation still moving forward. I set the plate down and go back to the kitchen to get him a drink when I hear raised voices from the back storage closet where the chairs are. I can’t make it out but they’re definitely arguing.
Ugh, men.
Then the storage room door pops open and Lucien exits, carrying a chair. The look on his face is hard, anger etching into his face, but then he sees me and it disappears immediately, giving me a smile. “Got the chair.”
He walks towards me as Marcos takes a moment to close the door. “Everything ok, guys?”
“We’re great, D.”
“Because it sounded like you were fighting.”
“Nope. All good.” Marcos’s voice was flat, not his normal charismatic, charming tone he uses to win everyone over. I don’t believe him but it’s not the time to press him.
Lucien sits at the table and everyone starts asking him questions, his face animatedly answering all of them. The conversation pauses, everyone stopping to drink or eat or talk between themselves. Lucien shifts in his chair beside me, his leg brushing against mine and I gasp, trying to hide it as a small cough. But the twinkle in his eye tells me he heard me and knew exactly what I did. Not even the glare from Marcos at Lucien could ruin the mood for me. Lucien presses his leg into mine further, taking a sip of wine as he cracks a joke and everyone laughs, the ring on his pointer finger sparkling in the light from the chandelier. I can’t take it any more, the throbbing between my thighs is so intense I swear everyone can hear it. I need to get out of the room.
“Excuse me. I’ll uh…I’ll go check on your phone.” I hastily stand, pushing my chair back.
“Do you want help, D?” Marcos asks, halfway to standing himself.
“No! Uh, no. I can check a phone myself, thanks.”
I walk calmly from the room, waiting until the door closes behind me before I take the stairs 2 at a time, closing my bedroom door behind me and pressing my back against it, feeling the coolness of the wood seep through my thin dress, but it does nothing to dull the ache between my legs. I sit on my bed next to my night stand, legs on the floor and put my hands over my face. Get it together. A quiet knock makes me jerk and snap my head up, moving my hands just enough to speak.
“Who is it?”
“Lucien.”
Shit.
“What can I do for you?”
“I uh, just need to check on my phone?”
Oh right.
“Come on in.”
As Lucien opens the door, I lean back slightly, placing my arms behind me and lean on them. Lucien gently closes the door and crosses the room, his pant leg brushing against my bare knee as he reaches for his phone and presses the power button, light shining in his face. I press my thighs together in what I hope is an inconspicuous manner.
“Only 15%. This phone takes forever to charge. Do you mind if I charge it a little more?”
“Not at all.”
“Thanks.” He sets the phone down and turns his head to look at me, his eyes flicking to my thighs that are currently jammed together so tight even water couldn’t get through them.
“Let me help you with your problem.”
I swallow hard. “P-problem?”
“Yes. Your problem.”
“I..I don’t have…” I lose all track of what I was going to say as his eyes darken, slowly raking over my body before landing on my own darkened gaze, smirking at me.
“I’m an excellent…helper.”
“I..I d-don’t have a p-problem.”
“No?”
I shake my head, not even convincing myself. But then my voice catches in my throat as he gets on his knees in front of me, his fingers gently swirling a random pattern across my knees and lower thighs. My skin sears where he touches me, and I can feel how soaked I’m getting. He gently wraps his hands around my knees and slowly pushes them open, the cool air not doing much to cool me down. My chest heaves as his eyes move up my legs, his gaze disappearing under my shortened dress, honing in on where I need him.
“I think I found your problem.”
“Y-yeah?”
He slowly slides his hand up my thigh, my breath coming out in little spurts the higher he gets. His hand disappears under my dress and then I feel him, his finger sliding up the middle of me still over my underwear and my hips jolt, immediately betraying all sense of logic in my brain, the side of me that’s screaming this is a stranger!
“Good news. I can help fix your problem.”
“Y-you can?”
“Do you want me to?”
I’m still propped up on my elbows, gazing down at this man who is kneeling between my legs, hand up my dress, rubbing tiny circles into my inner thigh with the tip of his finger, his eyes nearly black with lust, my logic side screaming at me to tell him no, to tell him to stop, to play it safe.
But I’m tired of being called Decaf.
“Yes.”
He smirks, sliding his hands up further, fingers pinching the fabric of my panties before he slides them down and off, tossing them behind him without looking. He gently places my legs over his shoulders, pushing my thighs open wider with his broad shoulders.
“Show me,” he says it calmly, but it’s also commanding and I shiver.
I grip the bottom of my dress and pull it up over my hips, exposing myself to him. His eyes move to stare at my cunt, darkening the rest of the way. He moves his fingers to spread me and I gasp at his touch as he takes me all in.
“Fuck!” I yell out as he quickly dips his head and licks up the center of me, his tongue curling around the bundle of nerves. My thighs try to jam against his head but he is so damn broad that all they do is weakly twitch against his shoulders as he works me open with his mouth, moaning into my cunt.
“Oh shit, oh fuck, I-” words tumble from me in an incoherent jumble. I feel one of his thick fingers swirling around my entrance before he pushes it all the way in, the cool metal of his ring brushing against my skin. My mouth is open in a silent scream, but then he pulls his finger out, adding another, his head lifted to watch as he fucks me with his fingers, the lewd squelches filling the quiet room.
He moves his head back down, gently sucking on my clit and my fingers fly to his head, twisting into his beautiful curls and gripping it as I moan his name, his fingers curling inside of me, slowly stroking at that spot. I can feel myself tightening, pulsing around his fingers as he pushes me closer to the edge. But then he pulls his hand out, his mouth leaving me and I huff.
“What the fu-”
He stands, undoing the buttons on his shirt before taking it off, tossing it on the floor. He’s not 6 pack fit but he’s trim, a small tummy poking out by his pant line that I desperately want to bite. His large hands work open his pants and before I know it, he springs free, heavy and ready.
“Take off your dress.”
It takes me a moment to tear my eyes away from him, nearly ripping my dress in half in my haste to rid myself of it. I unlatch my bra too, tossing it wherever it lands. Lucien pushes my legs open, settling himself between my thighs, pressing his chest against mine. I think he’s going to say something but then all words leave my brain as he pushes inside of me, splitting me open, hand clasped over my mouth as I scream into it, hands flailing around simply because I don’t know what to do with them. He burns me slightly from the stretch but I don’t even care. He bottoms out and just sits there a few moments, his own chest heaving with self-restraint.
Without pulling out, he thrusts further in, pressing at a spot inside of me I didn’t even know existed. A whiny yelp escapes me before his hand clamps over my mouth again, his eyes finding mine as he continues this slow assault. He tentatively removes his hand, my mouth hanging open as jolt of pleasure radiates out from my cunt with every thrust of his hips.
“Do you want me to fuck you into this bed, doll?”
I nod frantically, my hands gripping his ass in an attempt to move him faster.
“Tell me.”
“Please. Please Lucien, fuck me into my bed I-” he clamps his hand over my mouth again, his hips picking up to a rapid pace as he fucks into me, lifting my leg over his hip to change the angle. Then he somehow gathers my flailing hands in one of his large ones, pinning them into the bed above my head as he continues to snap his hips into mine, each thrust driving me rapidly towards the edge he had already brought me to earlier. The thin chains he wore brush against my face with every thrust, and I moan into his hand.
And then I fling myself over the edge, each thrust of his hips carrying me further and further into this bliss. I’ve never experienced this, not in this way, not this intense, rolling waves of pleasure pulsing over my entire body. I feel his hand loosen their grip, no longer over my mouth and they squeeze my hips, flipping me over so quickly my head spins slightly. I bury my face in my blankets and moan as he thrusts into me, his fingers digging into my hips as he sets a rapid pace, pushing my back down to curve my ass up further. To my surprise, I feel one of his hands snake around me, finding my clit and applying the perfect touch, perfect amount of pressure as he drives me towards the edge again at a rapid pace. He pulls me up, my back flush against his chest, his arm wrapping around me to continue touching me while the other holds my hair tightly and I come, his name gasping from my lips as I feel his hips sputter against me, a mix of hard and soft grunts in my ear before he loosens his fingers, letting me drop back to my hands.
He pulls out with a grunt and I immediately feel light, empty, and a little sore but in a good way. He looks at me and I point to my en suite bathroom, still trying to catch my breath. He disappears for several moments before coming back out, a wet washcloth in hand. He looks at me, still in the same position he left me in and moves behind me, pressing the cloth to my sensitive skin. I twitch and hear a low chuckle as he continues to clean me up. He helps me lay on my back, his finger tracing circles around my nippple before giving it a little pinch.
“We better get back to your party.”
“My what?” I’d completely forgotten there even was a dinner party happening. He laughs, his hand resting on my stomach.
“Your dinner party. Surely your friends will wonder where you are.”
“Maybe. Or we could just stay here, naked, and see what happens?”
His eyes darken again and he leans forward, pulling a boob into his mouth and sucking on it. I gasp but then he drops it, sitting back up.
“As much as I’d love that, we should probably get back downstairs.”
I’m hurt, but he’s right. Soon enough my friends would send a search party. And I don’t want any of them to see this complete stranger, balls deep inside of me. Although if you asked me when he was actually balls deep, I wouldn’t have cared at all.
Lucien dresses first and heads back downstairs, winking at me before he closes the door. I quickly rinse off, careful not to wet my hair before trying to fix it to what it was before. I smooth down my dress and hope no one notices the difference. I decide to check the power on his phone before I head down, just to give him an update, expecting it to not be any higher than maybe 20%. But when I light the screen up, my eyebrows furrow together. It was fully charged. Why did he lie? Was it just to fuck me? I wouldn’t have cared if his phone was fully charged.
I take it from the charger and head back downstairs, sounds of laughter echoing up the stairwell. I sneak in through the back door, grabbing another bottle of wine on my way in as an excuse for taking so long. I realize I have no idea how much time I’d spent upstairs, but people were just finishing eating, so it couldn’t have been too long.
I feel eyes on me, but none more than Marcos. His eyes bore into me, hardening the longer he looks at me. He glances between Lucien and me as I hand him his phone, a look of realization settling into his features. Before I can say anything he abruptly stands up, mumbling something about a cigarette break before heading out on the back porch. A moment passes and Lucien pats his pockets, asking Claudia if she thinks Marcos will let him bum a cigarette off of him. She smiles and tells him he definitely will. Lucien gets up and excuses himself, heading out the back door to find Marcos.
Claudia keeps looking at me, her eyes narrowing but a smile forming, like she’s starting to piece together what happened. Before she can ask, I excuse myself, heading towards the backyard to find Lucien and Marcos. But when I open the door I hear raised voices coming from further in the backyard.
“You need to fucking leave, Lucien.”
“I’m not going anywhere until you give me what’s mine, Marcos.”
“It’s not yours anymore, I told you that!”
“That’s because you fucking stole it from me, asshole!”
What the hell are they talking about?
“You say stole, I say borrowed-”
“It took me forever to find you and now you don’t even have the balls to admit you stole from me?”
“Fuck you!”
“No, fuck you!”
I hear the sound of fists landing and I close the last several steps, their fighting bodies moving into my view.
“What the fuck is going on here?”
They both stop, pushing back from each other and looking at me. Marcos tries to put on his normal charming smile, but that nagging feeling about him roars inside of me. “Hey, D.”
“Don’t hey me, Marcos. What’s going on?”
“Oh uh Lucien and I were just messing around, right?” He looks at Lucien who glares back at him.
“No. We were not. You stole from me.”
Marcos narrows his eyes. “And how could I have stolen anything from you?”
“You were my intern! You worked on my project and then you stole it to start your little start up!”
“Wait, what?” I look between them, confused.
“D, he’s crazy. He’s just some guy off the street. You don’t even know him-”
“Oh she knows me plenty.”
My jaw drops as Marcos looks between us.
“Wait…did…did you sleep with her when you went to get your phone?”
I can feel my cheeks heating up but Lucien speaks before I do. “Yeah. I did. I fucked her good. Had her screaming my name. Begging me to fuck her.”
Marcos’s mouth opens and closes, anger flashing in his eyes and I can feel tears pooling in mine, a mixture of anger and embarrassment as Lucien continues to speak.
“Doesn’t feel good, does it Marcos? To have something you want so badly taken away from you? I knew the moment I saw you look at her that you wanted her. So I fucked her first. You take something from me, I take something from you.”
Marcos stands there fuming, looking furious at Lucien, but no longer even looking my way. “You can’t just come in here-”
“I can. And I came in her too.”
SLAP!
My hand stings with the force of contact but I swallow any cry of pain. Lucien brings his hand to his cheek, turning to finally look at me, an odd expression on his face.
“D, listen. Marcos isn’t who you think he is. He-”
WHAM!
Marcos’s fist collides with Lucien’s face and he stumbles backwards. He rallies quickly, swinging for Marcos. I yell for them to stop but I may as well have been talking to the wall. The men fight, throwing themselves at each other, yelling insults that I can only halfway make out. But then Lucien pins Marcos to the ground, pounding on his face. I run up to him and grab his arm.
“Stop!”
Lucien looks at my hand on his arm and then at me before glancing down at Marcos who had just passed out. He looks back at me, his face softening as he lowers his fist, slowly standing up with a series of tiny grunts.
“D, I’m sorry, I-”
“Did you just fuck me to get back at him?”
He’s quiet for longer than I’d like, and I hate the tears that start to fall. I’m not delusional. I know nothing would come of it. I didn’t even know the guy. But a part of me had held onto some idea that maybe it was something more, could be something more.
“Not…not at the end.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
He gestures to a couple of chairs. “Can I explain?”
I sit, I probably shouldn’t have but good decisions went out the window a long time ago. Lucien sits in the chair across from me, shifting his weight forward to be closer to me.
“Years ago, I hired Marcos as my intern. His name then was Juan. He helped me with my research. I had a bio tech lab and was working on some ground breaking tech. But then one day, I come in and everything is gone. He’d stolen everything, all of my years of research just gone. And then I see his face being put up as the new man to watch in all of the science and tech magazines and I see it, my tech being claimed by this imposter.” Lucien spits on Marcos’s body.
That explains the weird vibe I’d always gotten from him. He was a lying cheat.
“So what about tonight?”
“Ah. Well it had taken me years but I finally tracked him down. And every time I tried to get close, to get him to confess he would somehow weasel out of it. But then I saw him connected to a social media post about a dinner party. I hired a PI to figure out where and I..well I knocked on the door.”
“So your car?”
“Isn’t really broken down, no.”
“Your phone was fully charged.”
“It was already at 87% when I first plugged it in.”
I sit with this information for a few moments. “So what about…me?”
Lucien’s face softens as he looks at me. “Then there was you. I didn’t expect to see anyone here I actually was intrigued by, but there you were. I pushed it aside to get to Marcos but then I saw how he acted around you, the way he looked at you, the pure desire in every inch of him. So I flirted and got close. You were hot and I figured I could fuck you to make him get super pissed. But then you took your dress off so easily and I could tell you weren’t really that kind of person and I just… lost myself a bit when I was inside you. By the end, I was hating myself for using you. I…I’m sorry.”
Well. There you have it. I was right about Marcos being too charming for a reason, a reason he had now confessed to, recorded on Lucien’s phone no doubt. I’m mad, I want to hit him but I also get it. And damn was he the best fuck I’ve ever had.
I lean forward, curling my finger around the chains on his neck as I pull him closer.
“Wanna go for round 2?”
Hiya! I was wondering if you could how would the tf2 crew act with a reader who has chronic pain. I would like it to be platonic.Thank you and Have a wonderful day ☺
(ofc! I tried to do my research but I don’t have chronic pain, apologies if anything is wrong :< thanks for requesting!)
Scout, Medic, Spy, Engie, and Heavy w/ a reader who has chronic pain (PLATONIC)
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
☆Scout☆
He doesn’t get it at first honestly
Once you explain it more he feels really bad for you
Like you just hurt? All the time? And he can’t rlly do anything to make it go away?
If you have to cancel plans of going somewhere to hang out he’ll stay with you inside
“Scout, are you sure you don’t want to go with the rest of the team to get drinks? I don’t want to make you stay in my room.”
“Pally, I’m happy as hell bein’ here. You’re my bud, I ain’t just gonna leave ya here when you already feel like shit. Now just relax, aight? Back to what I was sayin’, lemme tell ya ‘bout the time I absolutely destroyed alla BLU…”
Major yapper alert
Perfectly content with just being near to you, he likes being entertaining for you to at least distract you from the pain
☆Medic☆
The most educated about it (obviously)
Constantly has all your meds on hand along with refills
Is a huge hypocrite about making sure you’re okay
“You must sleep now fruend, it is twenty-two right now and you need your rest.”
“Medic you haven’t slept in four days.”
“That is entirely beside the point.”
(mf looks thru ur window to make sure ur actually sleeping /unreality)
Is intrigued about how your pain is triggered by certain things and will want to run experiments (dw he’ll undo whatever he did w/ his medigun and give you a lollipop)
Will offer you different surgeries to help but they all seem a little too experimental in nature
Will give you the privilege of feeding his doves if you’re having a bad pain episode
☆Spy☆
Relates to you somewhat (I headcanon him as a cane user)
Always has his smoking room open to you if you need a place to rest
If you’re sensitive to sound his room is perfect
It’s far from the other rooms and common areas, and if he is there with you he is often just reading a book with the occasional glance to make sure you don’t need anything
Never says it but he does enjoy your company a lot
You notice after a while that theres stock of all the things you typically use for pain episodes
“Spy? Why are there heat packs in here?”
“Ah, those are for me, but please feel free to use them if you would like.”
“...don’t you just only use cold packs for your pain?”
“Let’s change the subject, shall we?”
“Alright. …thanks.”
Does a lot of favors for you secretly, and knows you know it’s him but he’ll still never say it outright
☆Engineer☆
Literally has a mental list of foods that you should and shouldn’t eat if youre having a pain episode and will act like a strict parent abt it
“No more soda for you, it ain’t gonna help ya with that pain of yours. If ya need a drink I got some tea that’ll actually help ya.”
“But–”
“No buts, tea, water, or nothin’.”
“Fine, I’ll have some water.”
In his workshop he’ll come up with loads of gadgets to try to make your life easier :3
Will prolly make a robot for you to do your menial tasks that take up too much energy
☆Heavy☆
Is there constantly to help you with anything you need
You don’t have the energy to make yourself a coffee? Boom, he’s got it for you.
Debating whether or not it’s worth it to do the laundry to then be in bad pain all day? He already did it hours ago.
He’ll offer you to join him exercising to help with the pain
“Ugh, h- heavy I’ve done thirty pushups already, can we quit?”
“Net, exercise good for you.”
“C’mon! I’m already in pain, can’t you give me a little mercy?”
“And now are in different pain, da? This one good!”
Dw, he makes sure to not actually push you past your limits
oblivion.
sypnosis. - spencer is saddened by y/n’s recent date. pairing. - spencer reid x fem!bau!reader content/warnings. - angst, bit of drinking, unrequited love but not rly, tons of miscommunication, elle’s story is very different, spencer has headaches even before s6 but timeline is just overall wonky, spencer is stupid
Tumblr media
y/n’s phone lit up on the table, signaling a notification.
“hey y/n! who’s “alex”?” emily asked in a teasing tone. y/n buried her face in her hands as she let out a chuckle.
“emily it isn’t polite to look at other people’s phones! besides, it’s just a guy whom i went out with last week.” y/n said, her tone gradually becoming softer and quieter. the bau on the other hand, already kind of tipsy, started cheering.
their loud yells quickly filled the room. y/n has been in the bau for 4 years, but in the time they’ve known her she had always turned down every guy who ever asked her out, so this was quite exciting and unusual. derek was teasing her about being secretive, emily was talking about how she’s offended y/n didn’t tell her, jj and penelope were very impatiently asking for details, and hotch and rossi were just laughing. the only one who didn’t even say a word was spencer. he was sitting across from y.n. he just looked unfocused and disoriented, which was quite unusual. when emily glanced at him concerningly he just gave her a short smile.
after y/n told them some details (it really wasn’t much, they met at a park and he had a very pretty dog whom y/n complimented, thus they started chatting and eventually went out to a restaurant together) the room got a bit quieter, and gradually they shifted onto other topics. though spencer still wasn’t saying a word. he made eye contact w y/n, and as she was about to ask if everything is okay, spencer just got up and started going towards the door.
“hey hey what’s wrong?” penelope chimed towards him.
“nothing, i’m just dizzy so i’m going to get some fresh air.” he nodded, and shortly afterward left the room.
“i’m gonna check up on him, i have meds.” y/n said as she walked towards the door. the others just nodded, y/n has helped spencer with headaches before so this wasn’t out of the usual. but y/n felt incredibly anxious. she noticed the shift in spencer’s body language once the topic became her date. and she was confused.
she found spencer sitting on a bench in front of the house.
“hey, i got u algopyrin in case your head hurts? maybe it also helps with the dizziness.” she said as she sat down next to him, leaving about 6 inches between them. much to her shock, spencer didn’t react, instead he just shuffled away from her. she opened her eyes wide and stood up, facing him, full of concern.
“okay what’s wrong spencer?” she crossed her arms, signaling her shift in attitude. he just turned his head to the side. “oh come on, please talk to me!” she said, now sounding more desperate.
“why did you go out with him?” he mumbled.
“what?” she furrowed her brows. she wanted confirmation that she heard him correctly.
“why did you go out with him?” he said, now louder and facing y/n. he was looking at her like she’d just stabbed him in the back.
“why shouldn’t i have gone out with him? i’m confused.” she said, now lowering her arms to the side, a million thoughts racing in her head. does he know something about alex? or does spencer not want her to go out with others because he likes her? no, no, logically that couldn’t be the case.
“be-because y/n, you just shouldn’t. you should know better.” he huffed.
“what the hell are you talking about spencer?” she said, her tone now a bit louder.
“what did he do better? was he better looking? i know i have flaws, i know i’m weird, but-”
“what?” she practically yelled. “reid are you saying you wanted to go out with me?”
“yes, y/n, obviously! for a very very long time, and i think i’ve been very clear.”
“oh cut the crap spencer. i have been waiting on you for four years. you can’t suddenly decide u want me as soon as i get with someone else. four years spen-”
“no you haven’t, what?” his voice was like a whisper. he was genuinely confused but to her he just seemed cocky.
“you can’t be serious. i waited on u for FOUR years, and you know what you did? after two years of me hopelessly admiring you, which i am sure as a profiler you did not fucking miss, not that i was so subtle about it, you decide to have a little makeout sesh with some random actress you literally met like a few days prior. you know how invaluable i felt? and how just utterly stupid i felt? and then you go and ignore me for a month, refusing to even stand next to me. was that you being ‘very clear’? i felt so, so dumb, because for a while i really did think you liked me, spencer. and then for another two years all i listened to was elle talking my ear off about how much she liked you. i listened to her gush about every special interaction of yours, your plane rides where she would sleep on your shoulder. and me being the idiot i am, i still couldn’t let go of you. like a stupid little girl wanting to live in a fantasy.”
at this point she noticed her words were somewhat nonsensical, but by now solely her emotions fueled her. her voice was wobbly and her eyes became red. she felt way too sober for someone who’s just had three glasses of red wine.
“and then, she tells you how she feels, which i, as stupid as i am encouraged her to do, because why on earth wouldn’t you wanna go out with elle goddamn greenaway? she’s practically perfect! then you pull up with your little speech about how dating in the bau isn’t allowed, and then i realized- i am stupid. why would spencer reid want anything to do with me? we are colleagues, that’s it. we aren’t even allowed to date, even if you wanted to. you contacted me maybe twice outside of work since lila- so i can help with your headaches. that’s it. how exactly was that you signaling your feelings? this had always been purely a work relationship and i’ve grown to accept that. especially when elle left. i did not want us to end up like that so i finally, after four years, moved on with my life and now you decide to get all butthurt on me because i went out with a guy? after ruining myself over you for four years? you never even remotely said anything! am i supposed to pause my life waiting for you forever? oh you are such a piece of shit!”
her sadness turned to anger during the end of her speech. spencer was shocked.
“no, no, no, i didn’t know. i’ve always liked u y/n. i’m sorry. we could make it work. i could transfer if the bau doesn’t allow us to. please. it wasn’t like that with lila. it’s always been you about you.” her heart ached at his words.
“don’t do this to me spencer, please. and please for the sake of our jobs forget this ever happened.” she said as she made eye contact with emily standing in the doorway. “i’m gonna go home, go back to the others.” she said as she tossed the algopyrin to him and walked away.
spencer was left dumbfounded. he just sat there, staring at her walking away, before flinching at a sound next to him.
“what did you expect?” the woman next to him sighed. he stayed silent.
I Found You (Bucky Barnes X Rogers!Reader)
Words: 4.1k
Warnings/Themes: Angst! Character death, abduction, torture, human experimentation, allusions to PTSD, depression, thoughts of wanting to be unalived
Characters/Pairings: 40s!Bucky Barnes x Rogers!Reader, Steve Rogers, Peggy Carter (Mentioned), Howling Commandos (Mentioned)
misspygmypie asked:
Hello 🥰 I saw your request post and figured I'd send something in. I've had this idea for years, and it would be fun to read it!
You know when Steve finds and rescues Bucky at Hydra in the first movie? What if it's reader who they're rescuing and Hydra did some experiments on. Maybe she's Steves sister and they wanted to get to him through her and obviously Bucky has a thing for her lol 🥰
A/N: Sincerest apologies for taking so long to get this up. I've been taking on extra duties at work since my partner got fired and things have been super crazy since it's end of quarter. it also hasn't been the best for my mental health, so writing had been a struggle. probably why this ended up being so dang angsty. Sorry. Adulting seriously sucks. Anyway, hope you enjoy!
Tumblr media
Rain pattered gently on the canvas walls of the medical tent, while boots splashed noisily in the mud it created. Outside of the tent, she could hear the daily drills going on, soldiers training, and officers shouting commands. Her own fellow nurses milled about the tent, tending to wounded soldiers or doing other daily chores. It was a quiet day for the 107th Infantry Regiment.
“Alright, Private Richards, try not to go sticking your hand into random holes again. I doubt the next rabbit will be so kind.” Nimble fingers began tidying up the bloodied cotton balls and gauze used to clean and wrap the boy’s hand. 18 years old, you would think he’d know better than to stick his hand in holes in the ground.
“Yes, First Lieutenant, ma’am…” The boy grabbed his jacket and sulked out of the med tent. She laughed to herself as she watched him go. Knowing him, he’d be back soon enough. Not unlike his Sergeant, who wandered in a few moments later, a lazy smirk on his lips.
James Buchanan Barnes. Or as she’s known for most of her life, Bucky. The charming Sergeant was her older brother’s best friend, having been around since she was small. They were all thick as thieves, hardly seen without one of the others.
It may or may not have been a blessing to constantly have Bucky around. He was kind, funny, and took good care of her and her brother. However, other boys and men didn’t seem too eager to get to know her with him hanging at her shoulder. It’s even worse now with Steve being triple the size he was a year ago.
Occasionally, a brave soul will strike up the nerve to enter the medical tent and ask her out to the nearest town for a drink and a dance. But Bucky had uncanny timing. He always popped up just as she was about to answer.
“Now, a pretty face like that shouldn’t look so angry.” A voice sounded in her ear. A startled gasp escaped her and her hands fumbled the tools she had been organizing. Bucky caught a pair of forceps before they could hit the floor.
“James! You nearly gave me a heart attack!” She admonished him with a firm smack on the shoulder. He chuckled and rubbed the sore spot.
“Ow, careful there, doll. Gonna take my arm off with that strength.”
“Oh please, it’ll take a lot more than that to get rid of you.” She spun out of his reach when he tried to grab her arm. A small smile graced her lips as she made a final spin to face him. “Did you need something, Bucky?”
“What, I can’t come see my best girl just because I want to?
 “I know your troop is supposed to be running the course right now, so no you can’t just come see me because you want to,” she said while gesturing for him to sit on the cot in the corner or her station. “Now, what mess did you get yourself into to be sent here?”
“You know me so well, Darlin’,” he whispered wistfully, smiling up at her with those big blues. He wore a dopey smile as he presented his cut left hand. She pursed her lips and tried to fight the blush rising to her cheeks. Damn him.
Stepping closer, she took his calloused hand into her softer one and observed the cut. It wasn’t too deep but still needed to be cleaned and dressed.
“What happened?” She remained in between his legs as she prepped some alcohol and gauze. His right hand toyed with the fabric of her skirt. With a narrowed look, she smacked the back of it.
“Just a climbing exercise; a nail was sticking out of the wall and caught my hand.” His voice was hushed as she worked. She hummed and began cleaning the wound. He hissed and jerked his hand back. With eyes rolling, the nurse grabbed his hand more firmly.
“You big baby.”
“Your big baby.” She smacked his arm again.
<><>
Gunshots fired all around her, men shouting and screaming. Some in pain, some as a battle cry. But all she could think about was how gentle Bucky’s hands had been in hers. And how much she wished it was his hands on her right now.
But larger, rougher hands now tore at her. Pushing and pulling. She screamed from behind her gag and her hands strained against the restraints. Black boots kicked out at her captors as she fought like a feral cat. She twisted this way and that, anything to loosen their grip on her. But against four burly men, she didn’t stand a chance.
She guessed they had gotten tired of her struggling because a blunt weapon struck the back of her head and she fell limp to the ground.
It was cold. Colder than she had ever been. The air was damp, making the ache in her lungs worse. Blurry eyes peeled open. The room she sat in was dark, only a green-tinted light on the other side of the room illuminated the space. Its murky light cast deep shadows around the room that seemed to move. Her head lolled to the side as one shadow moved closer.
Ah, not shadows. Men. Hydra.
“Good evening, Miss Rogers.” His voice was heavily accented and polite. Nothing like what you’d imagine a torturer or murderer to sound like. “I am honored to have Captain America’s sister as my guest.”
She groaned. The gag was no longer wrapped around her mouth, but her tongue felt like lead. Thoughts struggled to focus and grasp what this man was saying.
“Such a shame, a First Lieutenant, Chief Nurse, so much promise in your future. But because of your brother, you’ll never get to meet that future. We have another one much better suited for you.”
His words floated through her mind but didn’t stick. She was a nurse… She helps people. Why was she here? There were soldiers at camp that needed her. Bucky needed her…
“..ucky…” She slurred, drool dribbling from the corner of her mouth. Her bones felt heavier than lead and her muscles were like the slop served at breakfast. The shadows at the edge of her vision danced ever closer.
“Don’t worry, my dear, you’ll forget the pain soon.”
<><>
Bucky tore through the camp, Steve hot on his heels. His blue eyes roved over the multitude of bodies and injured, searching for that familiar head of hair. Always done up so prettily. Like last week when she was bandaging up his hand. Her nails were painted red, and her hair was twisted up into a flawless bun. Her red-painted lips smiled warmly at him. Fear gripped his heart at the idea that he would never see that smile again.
“Bucky, stop!” Steve clamped a hand on his best friend’s shoulder, forcing the Sergeant to a stop. It wouldn’t do his sister any good if they lost their heads. As much as he wanted to tear the whole world apart until his sister was safe, he knew that reckless actions could get her killed. If she wasn’t dead already…
“She’s – she’s gone, Steve. Where is she!?” Bucky spun to face Steve, his eyes wide and slightly crazed. He can’t lose her. He never got to take her on a date. Never got to hold her close and confess how deeply and fervently he love her. Bucky bit down on his lip to stop its wobble. He can’t cry, not yet. Not while there’s still a possibility she’s out there.
“I know. I know, Buck. We’ll get her back. No matter what.”
Footsteps rushed up to the pair. A soldier stopped in front of them, slightly out of breath. “A-a letter for you, sir. It-it has the hydra insignia.”
Upon reading the contents, Steve and Bucky took off to Colonel Phillips' tent. The older man sat at a desk, signing letters to the families of the deceased and missing. Steve hardly gave the man time to put his pen down before requesting a team to rescue the captured. He decided to leave out the fact that he was only doing this to get his sister back.
“I understand the heroic need to save the day, but those who have been taken prisoner are far behind enemy lines and we don’t have the manpower or resources to conduct a rescue mission.” Phillips’ response was expected, but it didn’t stop Bucky’s jaw from clenching or his hands from balling into fists.
The Colonel looked at the two young men standing in front of him. He knew exactly why they wanted to go. Only a fool would think that Captain America wouldn’t move heaven and earth for the younger Rogers. An even bigger fool wouldn’t see the lovesick look every time James Barnes was near her, or the way his gaze follows her as she walks across the base.
Phillips sighed heavily, digging through a stack of letters yet to be signed. First Lieutenant Y/N Rogers. MIA.
Steve took the letter with shaking hands. Bucky felt a tear roll down his cheek.
They were dismissed and the two trudged away. A silent look was exchanged and they agreed. They would go after her with or without permission.
<><>
“…name… Rogers…” Chapped lips mumbled her name over and over again. A tired mind determined to hold on to herself. Don’t forget. Don’t forget. “…Y/N… Rogers…”
“Y/N?” A voice hissed.
“Y/N/N?” A different voice, closer this time.
“Steve! She’s here!” The buckles around her wrists and ankles fell off one by one. Warm, calloused hands that she dreamed about cupped her face. She groaned and willed the fog from her brain. These hands. Bucky’s hands.
“Buck…” She croaked, red lipstick smudged, and once pristine hair hanging limply around her face. His smile brightened the shadows in her vision. Steve had joined them and helped her sit up.
“Hey, doll. What’s a pretty girl like you doing in a place like this?” Giving her a watery smile, he pushed the hair from her face. The cheap line earned him a weak chuckle.
“Oh, what any girl does in a place like this,” she responded. Together, the two men helped her to her feet. The room pitched suddenly, her legs giving out under her. Whatever they had given her made her legs weak.
“Guess you make me a little weak in the knees,” she joked as Bucky swept her into his arms. She tucked her head into his neck, leaning heavily into him. Steve carefully led the way out, checking around corners and taking out any enemy soldiers that they crossed paths with.
Eventually, the trio made it out of the now-burning building. A mass of freed soldiers met them and together the company fought their way back to their camp. Bucky cradled her close to his chest the entire time. He stuck close to Steve, letting him take the punches. Steve didn’t mind.
For almost two weeks she was laid up in a cot in the medical tent. It was strange, in the years that she had been an army nurse, she had been the one giving care. She had never been the patient. And the patient of her subordinates, no less.
Her closer friends teased her that she was a horrible patient. Their teasing helped ease the residual anxiety and adrenaline from her ordeal. But what had really helped, was Bucky’s constant presence. During meal time and recreation time, he would come to visit her in the medical tent. Steve would drop by as well, but it was mostly Bucky.
As the days passed, Bucky seemed more and more nervous, however. Like he had something to say, just on the tip of his tongue. Sometimes, when he maybe thought she wasn’t looking, she caught him looking guilty. She hoped beyond hope that he didn’t blame himself for what had happened.
“You’re cleared to return to light duty, First Lieutenant,” Second Lieutenant Fredricks said with a smile.
The first few days of light duty were spent organizing and assisting. Then after a week, she was cleared to begin training again. Nurses didn’t necessarily need to do the drills the men did, but it didn’t mean they couldn’t. She also preferred to stay in shape and to keep her skills from going rusty.
Growing up with her brother being bullied, Y/N learned how to defend not only herself but Steve, as well. The elder Rogers sibling didn’t care for her fighting but he did appreciate that in a pinch, she could defend herself.
In the early morning, dressed in a pair of trousers and a simple shirt, Y/N makes her way to the track. A run should be light enough.
She could make out the tall frames of Steve and Bucky amongst the other men getting ready for their morning run. Bucky smiled as she approached.
“Hey, how’s it going? You sure you’re okay to be running?” Bucky brushed his hand over hers when she stopped in front of him. The touch made her stomach flutter but she smiled confidently at him.
“Actually, I’ve never felt better. I’m tired of being cooped up in the med tent for so long.” She bent to tighten her boots’ laces. Bucky shrugged and patted her shoulder, teasingly telling her to not fall behind. She scoffed and took off after the troops in a light jog.
Steve and Bucky kept pace with her, both worrying she might become too tired and collapse. Their hovering and not-so-subtle glances did not go unnoticed by her. Irritation settled quickly in her bones. She wasn’t some fragile flower. Just because something bad happened to her doesn’t mean she going to break at any moment.
Spurred by anger, her legs moved faster on their own accord. Steve glanced at his best friend as they sped up to match. Soon, the three of them were overtaking the other troops. Bucky was breathing heavily as they passed the frontman, now in a full sprint.
“W-wait!” He panted as the two Rogers siblings were now racing down the path. How was she running that fast!? How wasn’t she tired? Her smaller frame broke past Steve, who was now struggling to keep up.
The younger Rogers didn’t even notice the concerned and shocked looks she was receiving. The wind rushing in her ears and the trees blurring in her vision was all she could focus on. She felt like she was flying; her feet barely touching the ground. She felt free.
She burst into the clearing at the end of their running trail, the morning sun warming her wind-chilled skin. The grass kicked up as she skidded to a halt. A laugh erupted from her, her head light with adrenaline and awe. Then reality sunk in.
Bucky and Steve broke through the tree line a few minutes later.
“Y/N!”
She turned to look at them, her brows scrunched together and lips forming a thin line.
“They did this to me…” She murmured, gazing turning down at her clenched fists. She had thought she was feeling so good because she survived Hydra’s torment. How quickly this revelation brought her down. They poked and prodded, injected, and dissected. They had changed her.
“Doll?” Bucky approached her slowly, hands out in front of him. Seeing her lip wobble had his heart shattering in him. Throwing caution to the wind, he wrapped his arms around her. She buried her face in his chest, drowning her sobs in the rough fabric of his shirt. Her brother stood beside them, rubbing his hand over her shoulders.
“I’ve got ya, sweets. I got ya,” Bucky muttered into her hair. “We’re gonna figure this out. It’ll be okay.”
Lord, he hoped he was telling the truth.
<><>
Months went by as she adjusted to her new abilities. After she discovered her inhuman speed, she quickly learned she was inhumanly strong. Not as strong as her brother, but definitely stronger than any other man in the camp.
She began training with the men, easily laying anyone flat during sparring. Even Steve struggled against her. While he surpassed her in strength, she made it up in speed and agility. She had been given the moniker of Lady Liberty once the higher-ups found out.
But despite the usefulness of these abilities. She couldn’t help but feel violated. Every night she woke up in a cold sweat, dreaming of their cold instruments and icy laughter. More than once she ended up in the clearing from months before.
Each time she made it out there, Bucky wasn’t far behind. He held her as he had back then, whispering comforting words and stroking her hair. This night began no differently than the others. They sat in the middle of the clearing, the half-moon illuminated above their heads.
“I’m sorry, Bucky… You don’t have to come out here with me every night.” She sniffled, wiping her tears from her cheeks. She was settled in between his stretched-out legs, her own draped over one of his thighs. He shook his head and sighed.
“I don’t mind, Doll. Really.” Soft lips pressed against her temple. “Unless you tell me to go, I won’t leave your side. I can’t.”
Shining eyes looked up into his baby blues. She had never felt so safe and protected as she did in Bucky’s arms. Even though she could easily kick his butt in a fight, she knew he would fight tooth and nail for her. And she would burn down the world for him.
There was no doubt in her mind as she pressed her lips to his. He sighed against her as he deepened the kiss, pulling her closer by the waist. Everything clicked into place with this kiss. They had been dancing around this thing between them for years, neither willing to take the leap and possibly lose what they already had.
But the feeling of her lips on his, the taste of her on his tongue had him bitterly regretting not doing this sooner. How many kisses could they have had? How many dates and late nights have they missed? He sure had a lot of time to make up.
“I love you, Y/N.” His breath fanned across the skin of her neck as his kiss-swollen lips brushed along it.
“I love you, James.”
<><>
Over the next two years, the Howling Commandos slowly but surely made their way through the Hydra bases. First Lieutenant Rogers led alongside her brother, Captain Rogers. Not only as extra muscle, but as a nurse, and occasionally, spy. Bucky didn’t like the idea of his girl being ogled by slimy nazi men, but she convinced him that no one would expect a woman to be a super soldier.
She would infiltrate their meetings as a piece of eye candy, acquiring information as needed and then arresting the men as she saw fit.
But this particular mission didn’t require revealing dresses or sultry makeup. Rather, she wore a winter coat and combat boot with reinforced soles. The speed that she ran quickly ate through nearly all of her shoes.
The Commandos were all situated on a cliff overlooking another with a set of train tracks. They were waiting on the train carrying Doctor Zola. Glove-covered hands clenched at her side. Doctor Zola. One of the men who had turned her into this. Turned her into a weapon.
Bucky’s heavy hand wrapped around her waist and pulled her to his side. His soft lips brushed against her temple.
“It’s gonna be okay,” he reassured. “We go in, kick some ass, and then get out. Easy.”
She chuckled and pressed a kiss to his waiting lips. The other men had the decency to look away from the couple.
“Alright, lovebirds, let’s get a move on.” Steve’s voice called out from the edge of the cliff.
She scoffed at her brother and kissed her sergeant once more. “See you on the other side, tiger.”
<><>
Things were going south very quickly. Hydra had more gun power than she had thought. A huge man with bigger guns than himself stood in the doorway to their car. His guns glowed blue as they powered up.
Steve shoved both his sister and Bucky behind him, holding up his shield. The blast had her teeth rattling in her skull, her body flying back further than the boys. The impact of her head hitting the metal floor caused stars to dance in her vision.
She could barely comprehend the cold rush of air from the massive hole in the side of the train. And before she could gather herself, the man was priming another shot, pointed directly at her. Shaking legs tried to bare her weight as she scrambled for her gun.
Bucky had gathered himself faster than her or her brother, so she could only watch as he picked up Steve’s shield and fired a few shots at the enemy. A scream ripped from her throat when blue light shot out at her sergeant.
Bucky went flying, the shield in the other direction. Both the Rogers siblings jumped into action. Steve went for the shield, quickly taking out the other man. She leaped for the hole in the wall of the train that Bucky had flown out of.
Her eyes widened with horror as she gazed upon the man she loved, hanging on for dear life to the crumbling handrails.
“Bucky! Hold on!” She reached out to him, trying to find her footing to get to him and pull him to safety. The look in his eyes was one she had never seen on him before. Blue eyes wide with fear, his mouth poised in a silent scream. And as his fingers brushed against hers, tips barely able to curl around each other, he was gone.
His scream was joined by hers. The image of him falling to his death will forever be ingrained in her mind. It’ll be the last thing on her mind as she goes to sleep and the first one when she wakes up. It’ll be there when she fights her way through Hydra soldiers, and as she sends her fist straight into Johann Schmidt’s ugly, red face.
Steve worried about his sister’s mental health since that day. She had retreated into herself. Long gone was the witty and strong woman he knew. His sister, who had always been so bright, had been replaced by someone who only knew how to fight.
She only spoke to give orders or to communicate during battle. Her words were always clipped and to the point; no room for banter or sarcasm. The icy wall she had built around herself was all to conceal the torment her mind tortured her with.
If only she had been stronger, maybe she wouldn’t have been down for so long. If she had been faster, she could have reached him before he fell. If she had been better, maybe he wouldn’t have died. Every moment was filled with these thoughts. Awake or not. It was all she could think about.
Eventually, she became too tired. She fought with everything she had; Bucky at least deserved that. She wouldn’t give up simply because it would mean he died in vain. However, with each new opponent, she could help but wish that this one would be stronger than her.
No opponent was ever stronger than her. Until now.
It wasn’t a person that she now faced her death with. But a plane filled with explosives. Schmidt was gone, as was the Tesseract. Now, she and her brother faced the cracked windows of the plane. She tried to keep her lip from trembling as Steve spoke with Peggy.
Even if she hadn’t gotten her happy ending, she had wished her big brother would have gotten his. Tear-filled eyes opened when she felt a hand come to rest on hers. Steve’s face was solemn as he spoke.
“I’ve gotta put it in the water.” He was half telling Peggy and half asking for permission from his sister. It wasn’t just his life going down for millions of others, but his little sister’s, too. The siblings shared a weighty look before she nodded.
Lady Liberty listened quietly as Captain America spoke with Agent Carter. No.
Y/N listened brokenheartedly as her big brother said his goodbyes to the woman he loved and who loved him in return.
And as Steve redirected the plane to the icy terrain below, she closed her eyes and imagined the warm hands of her love. His blue fire eyes and easy grin. The feel of his lips against hers. The sound of her name on his tongue.
I’m coming, Bucky.
Just processing into the void again. Thanks for seeing me, those who comment and heart.
Matt and I took a time out to do devotionals and listen to some worship music to get our hearts and minds refocused on God. It helped in the moment. But I’m back to being emotionally wrecked.
We are going to fix two of the car problems for roughly 400$ and then the last one mid January and fingers crossed we make it. I don’t travel very far.
Things are getting worse and worse with our roommates by the day, by almost each moment really.
Friend roommate is looking to leave again (she was gone this past weekend ) to get more space. I guess comments were made by her wife that she shouldn’t have come home/they should spend more time apart.
It’s definitely awkward living here and hearing the fights and knowing that we are definitely not wanted by one of them. My car has obviously been broken down and with roomie gone, she let us use her car to work (Uber, shipt) and get to my pet sits. Wife was not happy and made comments about it.
My PTSD is not okay as her wife reminds me exactly of my ex husband. Losing their shit one moment and being totally calm and putting on a friendly front. I’m out of the house most days with pet sitting and when I’m here, there’s always a warm “you’re home!” There was a short period of time before Rover kicked off where our routine was a caffeinated drink, news, and game shows until they started fighting and I hid in the room. Fun until it wasn’t fun.
I feel so trapped in the bedroom when I’m here. Honestly like I felt trapped in the bedroom when I lived with my ex and his grandmother. Wondering again where I would be living day to day with the hot and cold of my ex and the never ending fighting and threats of divorce. Broke as fuck because he refused to work and I Carried the financial weight. Different this time because we’re both trying hard to get re-employed. M did delivery work that was helping with bills but now I’m out of a car until we can fully fix everything.
We are looking at room rentals, short term Airbnb room rentals, short term studio rentals. Because what we can afford is about 2 hours from where we are trying to get long term employed. long story short without going into personal details, the specific line of work M is looking at getting re-certified in are only sponsoring in certain areas. So he’s looking for anything to get by in this moment while beginning the long process of the more stable career.
I’m floating in the wind. Caught between what I thought was going to be a career change vs misery in staying in social work. Social work will pay more, but starting my work in the animal care field will set me up better long term. I’m feeling very motivated to stay in this field, but it’s a shit time to make that change.
I’m just floored at the difference 3 weeks made. I was JUST writing about how happy I was, my mental health was healing, I was excited about work and the opportunities I Had in front of me.
Now I’m back in survival mode. I know the emotional and verbal abuse isn’t happening to me, but it’s affecting us in all the same ways. I’m having a lot of chest pain and needing my emergency anxiety meds multiple times a week because no matter the amount of coping skills, I cannot calm down.
I don’t know if tongiht would be considered a relapse, but I’m getting drunk because I cannot emotionally handle all of this tonight.
We are working on an emergency game plan in case this week goes to shit and we are kicked out.
I just need to escape. Just for tonight.
So this is a post of what I’ve learned about managing like extreme menstrual pain so take it with a grain of salt but if nothings working for you here’s some stuff you can use without a prescription. If you have any other major health concerns talk to a pharmacist or your dr before using. (Seriously you only get two kidneys and 1 liver). Also just because they’re over the counter doesn’t mean you shouldn’t ask about interactions with ur other medications (seriously talk to a pharmacist, I promise they don’t bite and are generally very helpful and there’s no copay to see them. U don’t even need health insurance just ask them what they would recommend I promise it will be both safe and effective)
• ibuprofen or naproxen, these are both nsaids, do not take both! Ibuprofen is going to be no more than 12 200mg tablets in 24hrs, I prefer 3 tablets every 6 hours as I get better pain control with that. Do not use like this for more than 5 days! If you prefer naproxen it’s no more than 6 220mg tablets in 24 hours, generally 3 tablets twice a day. Do not take naproxen like this for more than 3 days!
• caffeine. Idk man I listened to a pharmacist on this one. Caffeine is an add on that can really improve overall pain management. Personally I drink some coffee or have like 1/2 a redbull. If u want to be more precise with it u can use a caffeine tablet. I have a very low tolerance for caffeine so adjust accordingly. Generally I use it in between doses to help extend the effective time of the other medications and managing breakthrough pain. It’s a key ingredient in midol and excedrin.
• Tylenol. This is another add on, it can help with pain management and also things like head aches and other things going on. I prefer 1 500mg tablet every 8 hours or 1 extra strength tablet. That said you can double up, but do not take more than 6 extra strength tablets in 24hrs. Do not take if using midol.
•antihistamines. It’s weird but allergy meds can actually help with menstrual cramping. Personally I only use it over night and tend towards Benadryl when I’m having difficulty managing it over night, see like night 1 and 2 of my period. But if it works really well for you can buy ceterizine and it is non drowsy and will give u a lot of the same effects. Also midol has antihistamines in it.
•heat. Look I know everyone says grab a hot water bottle or a heating pad but unfortunately they are correct. The uterus is a muscle and heat can help with everything that’s going on.
•Imodium. Won’t actually help with the cramps but mine come with other side effects like diarrhea. And you know what’s worse that just having menstrual cramps, shitting urself too. It works, but follow packet instructions on dosing and frequency. Personally I only ever need like 1 or two doses to get me through.
•avoid things like asprin and excedrin (yes even for that migraine). unless ur doctor has u on daily dose asprin avoid it and anything containing it as it can reduce clotting factors leading to more bleeding and more pain. Not only is cramping trying to get rid of things but also to tamp down any bleeding from the shedding. Don’t make its job harder. It will get revenge.
•scheduling. If ur like me and it’s always bad. And I mean always, start pain management at the first indication, it’s way easier to get ahead and stay ahead than to catch up. And once you start stick to a schedule. Do not fall into the trap of oh I feel fine so I’m going to stop. If ur normally in pain for 72hrs do this for 72 hrs and don’t stop until after. If u stop earlier and let it start getting a hold of u it will be twice as hard to get back to not feeling like youre are dying.
It may not completely resolve it but in my experience it makes shit way more tolerable. Obviously not a dr or a pharmacist so talk to those, especially if u don’t have insurance talk to a pharmacist. I promise you they may not be able to diagnose you but they can help you with symptom management using otcs, or if ur on a prescription for this and it’s not working they can recommend things to talk to your dr about.
As some one who has suspected both PCOS and endometriosis (yay for medical systems and insurance it’s only taken 10 years but I might finally get a diagnosis tho the drs are fighting) I promise I’ve been somewhere in the neighborhood of what you’ve got going on and it sucks ass and I won’t pretend it doesn’t. But I’ve also been in a position where I couldn’t afford to pursue care even with insurance. So, this is a list of things I used when I didn’t have access to more care.
Oh and I know otc birth control just became a thing, and if ur unable to see a dr it could be the right choice for u if u think u have endo. It’s estrogen free and could improve symptoms. (I don’t tolerate them but hey, give it a shot.)
got in another fight. some douche at the bar being all pushy towards GR when we went to get after work drinks. shoved him away and he obviously didn’t like that. we took it outside. i clocked him in the stomach but he got me in the nose. how many times have i busted my nose now? it’s just a good thing i havnt got nose piercings. probably can’t even get nose piercings now. anyway, didn’t really win but didn’t really lose either. he threw up from being too drunk, and my stomach punch, then hobbled off like he had forgotten about me. GR was all worrying about my nose. i told her to leave it. i felt bad for snapping. back at home now. i know i shouldn’t drink. it’s really bad for my schizophrenia, especially with my meds. but god i just needed one. having another cigarette to try calm down, numb the pain a bit. may go lay down in the shower. it’s just one of those nights
Thank you!! And sorry that I ended that message kind of abruptly. I had somewhere to be, but yeah I feel really good about it. She told me to stop looking up stuff because I think she thought it wasn’t helping, but I actually think it helps me. Knowing why I’m the way that I am and how to deal with that makes me feel like I have a bit more control over it. I also know it takes people years to get diagnosed with any type of neurodivergence so I was expecting to be ignored on that front tbh. All in all, not happy about the meds because I wanted to get off the Xanax that my doctor had prescribed, and she agreed that I shouldn’t be taking that, but then she said I will need other meds. I have seen a lot of people get off anxiety meds so I was hoping to start working towards that goal instead of changing to a different set of meds, but they might work better! I feel like Xanax makes me very tired but doesn’t really stop the anxiety, it’s like it slows down every part of my brain except the one it should be. I’m also just not a fan of taking anything, not because I’m against medicine or anything like that, but because I don’t want to take something unless it’s completely necessary. I will of course take whatever I’m prescribed and listen to the psychiatrist but I’m hoping it’s something I will be able/allowed to stop taking at some point, even if it’s in a few years when everything is maybe more under control. But I’m feeling optimistic!
yea look again do what’s best for you and experiment tbh. see what this psychiatrist suggests/prescribes. Again, only you’ll know what’s best for you. I also do think - and this is going to be something only you can answer and only with sufficient experimentation though - that if you need meds then you need meds. I can only confidently speak for me right but I need meds because my brain is just very bad at processing serotonin, right, like it doesn’t want to be happy and when it’s not happy it’s not regular levels of “I guess this sucks” unhappy, it tricks me into thinking all sorts of dark ass rubbish and makes me very fucking dysfunctional. I read a book that I won’t recommend about happiness and it talked about how sadness is a natural emotion/state and modern society is too obsessed with being happy and all sorts of great artists produced their best art while sad and my takeaway was like 1) a bunch of great sad artists have killed themselves so idk if that’s really the flex this moron who wrote the book believes it to be 2) if I could be as productive as those people when I’m in an episode maybe I would indeed sit with my sadness but like when I have a bad episode I… don’t function. My brain needs help to achieve base levels of human functioning when it’s doing its little misery episode. Obviously it needs the right kind of help, and I think I could and perhaps one day will find natural alternatives to SSRIs, and lifestyle changes can and do help, but fundamentally idk how much woo woo shit I would need to do in order for my brain to have regular people’s levels of serotonin without help. That said, I’ve also tried like seven kinds of SSRIs and combos of SSRI + anti anxiety medications + just anti anxiety medication + hormone/thyroid medication combos with it all before I found the combo I’m on now and I AM pairing it with lifestyle right like lots of exercise and sensible dietary choices and meditation but I can’t think how much running and meditation I would need to do in order for the serotonin to like… work lol. And also maybe this stops working again idk that’s why I journal a lot too to like monitor this shit because I don’t like going to the bad place ykwim? I want to stay out of it. Anyway.
I think of it as like if I had T2 diabetes right I’d take medication for it AND ALSO PAIR IT WITH LIFESTYLE CHOICES. I wouldn’t take the meds and drink sugary drinks and eat white bread and be all shocked pickachu face that my insulin is still fucked and my blood sugar levels are doing funny things and I feel like shit but I also wouldn’t stop taking meds because like… if I had T2 diabetes then I’d know my body is bad at producing insulin, just like my real body is bad at producing happy hormones. That said, some people DO manage T2 purely with lifestyle and natural alternatives and again like do what’s best for YOU and what feels right and only you would know that.
Again, best of luck for this and all I can say is tbh you know best. And do your research.
summary: you meet jessica’s friend group that she’s talked so much about and one person who’s she’s never talked about — tags: underage!reader, 22 year old!sam, med student!reader, smoking, cursing.
You’re a lot of things but weak isn’t one of them. Okay maybe just a little. You’re only slightly weak when it comes to Jess’s pout, her ‘please, c’mon’ and those green eyes— okay so only a little corruptible, but it means nothing.
It means nothing that you’re now standing alone at a party where you hardly know anyone and you feel like sleeping outside on the open road might be more entertaining. Not just any party too— one of the biggest parties, Lily Carson’s birthday.
Basically anyone who looked her way was invited, birthday presents were plethora but not required and you wish you could say that she’s a bitch to everyone, but really, she’s one of the nicest people you’ve ever met. Which is why you started gaping at Jess when she suggested (begged) for you both to go. You don’t know Lily personally but she’s popular, obviously, and she invited Jess so why shouldn’t you come?
“C’mon, girl,” Jess starts as she comes back from a round of beer pong, “you can’t stay rooted in the same place the whole time, that’s not why I made you come.”
Why she brought you at all was the question. What were you doing here other than being awkward? You haven’t even seen Lily the whole night and she’s the birthday girl. Jess is way more of a party girl than you are, she’ll attend each one and somehow keep her grades up but it isn’t even that. You don’t hate coming, you just don’t prefer it. Too many people more often than not cause overstimulation, crying and too many emotions. You’d rather steer clear.
“I didn’t want to come.”
She rolls her eyes. “Come on, I’ll introduce you to my friends.” You knew all her friends, who would be new? Oh, probably people who aren’t majoring in med school. You met Jessica at lunch in your first year, she asked if you had company, you shook your head, she sat down, and the rest is history.
You had plenty of friends from your major but none from outside so someone from law was quite thrilling since you’re not usually one to make friends easily unless you connect through school first.
But throughout the past two years you’ve known her she’d usually hang out with your friends, she knew them all anyways, than you would go see hers. Now it’s different though, you don’t know of many people in your class that would go to a party on a Tuesday night so you’re sure you don’t know anyone here— well, until now.
Jess drags you to a different room. Fifteen, if not more, people are sitting in a circle— or something resembling it. Some of them on the floor, the couch, the tables with the booze. “Guys, here she is!” She introduces you with a big smile and most of them look up to wave at you.
You want to say what catches your attention are the cute guys (there’s quite a lot) but it’s how freaking pretty these girls look. Like Jess. God, everytime you decide to leave your house your insecurities grow double their size.
She starts pointing at her friends for you, “This is Emmy, Mary, Gen—” And it’s a damn long list. Longer than it should be, but you try to keep the ones you care about in the back of your head: Gen, Brady, Stella. No one really caught your attention the way those three have, they look like they’re more your style, laid back, on their phones, talking to Jess like they’re closer to her than the rest of the group.
You sit between Gen and Jess on the beige couch, Brady and his girlfriend (?) at the foot of it, his hand around her shoulders. “Spin the bottle?” Someone from somewhere in the room says and you sigh. Yeah, this is why you don’t go to parties. The alcohol (which you don’t drink), the games (that you don’t play) and the making out everywhere.
You grew up pretty reserved before you came to Stanford so you haven’t even had your first kiss, you haven’t smelled alcohol and you most definitely haven’t seen parties this big.
“Brady?” Someone from the doorway shouts which makes most of us look up at— this person. Who isn’t real. I’m imagining him. “Hey, Jess, Gen,” he acknowledges both people I’m sitting between. Does that mean he’s real? No, no, just a figment of my imagination. He says my name next. A small nod.
Kill me. Kill me now. How does he know who you am? You want to smile and greet him back but you feel like your body is just gone. Thankfully, he leaves your direct vision after slapping Brady’s shoulder, sitting opposite you on the couch next to a couple on another one. You look over at Jess with wide eyes.
“What just happened?”
“I should be asking,” she sighs, “you see one cute guy and turn mute.” Another thing about reserved upbringings? Never even had a boyfriend. Or seen cute guys.
“Cute?” You exhilarate aggressively, “Jess I would kill myself if I was him. He’s too beautiful for other people to see.” Her eyes widen and she leans forward. You’re already talking into each other’s ear at this point since everyone abandoned the ‘spin the bottle comment’ ever since this guy came in. “What’s his name?”
“I literally just said it when he said hi to you, which by the way, you’re so freaking rude! You didn’t even nod when I introduced you.”
“His name, whore.”
“Sam, slut.” You nod once and lean your back completely against the couch. You try so so hard not to look at him, he’s right in front of you at this angle, if you could just— he’s looking at you. In you.
He smiles when you hold eye contact and you, like the dumb bitch Jess argues you are, look away quickly. Gen tells some stupid story about something that doesn’t matter to you no matter how hard you try but she’s so cute that you try your best to focus. His green eyes. Were they green? Not as green as Jess’s but they were green under this low light. His Long hair. Those shoulders.
Someone (the same guys who said ‘spin the bottle’?) suggests that you dip and almost everyone in the room agrees. You leave the party with about nine people, which, woah, too many human beings in one place. You see Lily on the way out, wish her a happy birthday, then run back to the group who’s getting two cars.
You ubered here, not really sure what to expect or if you would be able to park somewhere safe, so you look at Jess with a frown. “What’s happening?”
“We’re going to McDonald’s. You wanna get in Sam’s or in Brady’s car?”
“Neither, I could uber.” And even as you say it you feel a presence behind you, hovering. Jess is looking at him, but you’re sure if you look anywhere near his face you won’t be able to process the words out of his mouth.
“C’mon,” he draws out your name a little and you’re forced to look up when he stands next to the both of you, getting a cloud of his perfect cologne, “it’s safer this way, since we’re all together. Jess is coming with me, you should too.”
You nod once. Like before, nothing is going on in your head. God, screw this. How can you be so bad at talking to human beings when you're supposed to treat them for a living?
“By the way, I haven’t seen you around, you’re law?”
You shake your head, taking a small step back that’s barely noticeable but allows you to breathe a little better. His eyes are brown and green. Is that possible?
“Med. you’re pre-law?” He nods with a smile, putting a hand on Jess’s shoulder to drag her to the car and you follow along.
It isn’t even a tight fit since unlike half of the student population, Sam drives an SUV. You’re in the back with Jess and Gen, some guy who’s name you forgot is with Sam. He’s about to plug his phone in when Jess snatches it from him, “Nuh-uh, Sammy. You promised I can have it next time.” Next time? How many times has Jess been in Sam’s car? Are they together? No, can’t be, you two were just talking about him.
But she did roll her eyes. Is it because they’re together? “Jess, I swear if I hear any Taylor Swift—”
Jess? And Taylor swift? What kind of joke is that?
“Shut up and drive, Sammy, nearest Mac is still ten minutes away.” But she says it like she’s glad. You and Gen look over her shoulder to choose songs with her, you decide on casual playlists everyone will like and both girls are calm enough to carpool all the way, meanwhile you’re texting your little sister that you’re out with friends so she can know where you are.
Okay, so maybe you listen to murder mystery podcasts too much— sue you for wanting to stay safe. You’ve occasionally gone out where boys were involved and so getting in their car was inevitable but most were nice enough to get into your own if you asked, just helped calm you down way more if you’re the one driving.
You arrive and everyone’s out of the car, you’re the last one out when you notice Sam's not moving. The car’s parked, isn’t he coming inside?
You can’t believe you’re doing this. You’re speaking to him. “Sam, you coming?”
He looks back at you with that smile of his, that seemingly never leaves his face. “Yeah, just—” and he seems a little hesitant before he opens his armrest. This is it. You pissed off the wrong serial killer who looks nothing above twenty two.
He takes out a pack of cigarettes and you let out a breath of relief. “I don’t like encouraging them and all that. I’ll finish up quickly and come inside.” You agree but don’t make a move out of the car, even if you do look away from him. “Do you? Smoke?” You nod a little but shrug right after so you confuse him more than yourself.
You haven’t in a while, a few months, maybe. They’re expensive and money’s tight more often than not. Your parents send over as much as they can, which means you’re doing better than most of the people in school, but you try to be responsible so you’d only do it if someone offers one. A disposable, a cigarette, whatever they had.
“Come up.” It makes a smile stretch on your face as you get out of the car to get in the passenger's seat. “Pull it back. The seat.” You do and it puts you in a way more comfortable position.
“Chad was just makin’ sure Gen was comfortable,” because she was sitting behind him, “how come I’ve never seen you with Jess before?”
“Oh, we don’t— or I don’t go out often. I don't go to parties and stuff like that ‘cause it’s,” God curse whoever invented oversharing, “yeah, anyways, I don’t do parties. I came ‘cause Jess promised brunch tomorrow if I come.”
“Brunch?” He asks with a small laugh, like it’s a ridiculous offer.
You shrug, watch him take a cigarette out of the pack and pats himself down for a lighter then— “oh shit.”
Life is in your favor today because you’re grinning as you take out your own lighter. You usually keep it on you for aesthetic purposes, but times like these, they’re really handy. “Lighter?”
He looks over and nods, puts the cigarette between his teeth, his eyes meeting yours intensely. You could’ve lighted it up while it was between his fingers, you’re in the car, there’s no wind. But that doesn’t seem to be his point of view because he leans in and you do too, lining the lighter up, checking hastily so you can get back to staring into those oh so gorgeous eyes. With so many colors.
The cigarette lights and he takes a pornaghraphic drag, arching his back a little to get comfortable and it almost makes you pass out. He repeats his earlier ridicule.
“Yeah, brunch,” You shrug a little, moving to face him more. You notice his phone is connected and playing music though it’s very low, “She’s paying so it’s basically a free meal for the week.” He chuckles through another drag and shakes his head.
“That’s true.” He offers the cigarette and you take a beat. Okay maybe a little more because he checks in, “It’s blueberry.” And it’s a ridiculous thing to say, he notices and shrugs. “Jess was the  one who bought it for me, my birthday was a week ago.”
“Oh, happy birthday, then.” He acknowledges your words as you take the cigarette between your own fingers to bring to your lips. You’ve shared smoking with other people, a whole car of people smoking the same thing— nothing new— but just the two of you? Sitting in the car with the low music… something is different. “How are exams— LSAT mocks are soon, right?” And if it’s the dumbest thing you could’ve said, he doesn’t mention it.
“Yeah, next week. They’re just mocks but I think they’re counting them as the finals.” You nod, not really understanding. Med school was way different than… this. Way way different. But you tried to be mindful of all the majors just so you could be able to open conversations with other people.
“That’s nice, must be stressful.” You wish you could say you’re usually better at conversations with strangers but unfortunately you’ve always found comfort in speaking about school whenever you don’t know the person in front of you. Really really lame when you’re talking to a guy you like.
You hand the cigarette back, “Shouldn’t we go back inside?” You ask quickly, wanting to leave.
He takes a breath, “I— uh, I gotta finish this first.”
“Why?”
“Emmy’s trying to quit. ‘S why she rode with Brady, he doesn’t smoke and she’s having a hard time.” Oh. That’s generous.
“You’re close with Emmy?” You take a beat before asking the real question that’s been on your mind, “and jess?”
He taps the cigarette out the window then look over at you with a small line between his brows. Just as you were about to backtrack. Not your business, you’re sorry, anything— “Not really. But I’ve known everyone since freshmen year and they're my friends so I try to be considerate. And I think what Emmy’s doing is good.”
For a second you think that’s that and are about to tell him that’s nice, maybe compliment him and then run out of the car but he smiles a little then adds, “Me and Jess are just friends too. Dated in my sophomore year for a few months, that’s it.”
Oh. That’s good to know, you suppose. Not that it matters or whatever. He hands you the cigarette again and you steal at his eyes, trained on yours, before you take it from between his fingers, your hand slipping against his. You mutter a slow apology. He responds with a warm smile. “What about you? Boyfriend?”
That’s the question of the year. “No, no boyfriend.”
“And this group?” He nods over to the Mac you’re parked in front of. “You know any of them?”
“Except Jess, no. Just met everyone today, a lot of people.”
“So most of the people you know are from Med?” You nod. “You know Lana?”
“Yeah, do you?”
“Yeah, Lana’s an old friend, she got me into Stanford,” that earns a frown from you and he explains further, “helped me choose where I wanted to go since I didn’t have lots of options. I needed to get somewhere on a full scholarship. Said Stanford offers the most scholarships so I applied.”
“Woah, you’re here on a full scholarship? Really?” You see his proud nod, and it’s too damn cute. “That’s incredible, Sam.”
“Yeah, thanks.” Your phone pings and you thank god because opening a new conversation would be the end of you. You want to talk with him, and he obviously doesn’t mind your company if he’s opening topics but— it’s scary. And awkward. Though the latter is because of you.
You see a text from Jess asking where you are, another from your sister to ask who you’re with, and a last one from one of the PA’s for your anatomy class.
“You okay?” You nod quickly and open the one from your PA to make sure nothing was wrong but— hey, give me a call when you’re free, we need to discuss your last exam.
“Fucking anatomy.” You groan, shutting your phone off. You look up and notice Sam’s raised eyebrow. “What?”
“Anatomy 108?”
“Yeah?” In Med you take the same course four times throughout the school year. The first time you take it it’s called 101, then 102, then 104 and 108. It’s something you wouldn’t know unless you take Med or are interested enough to ask because it’s hard to explain in detail.
“You’re— you’re taking anatomy? You’re a sophomore?” Oh. Oh shit. Yeah you’re a sophomore, shit shit.
You can’t lie here, one, because he’d know, two, because you only take anatomy in your second and last year, and you damn well don’t look like you’re in your last. “That makes you, what, eighteen?”
God you wish, at least it wouldn’t kill you. You quickly hand him his cigarette before you break the news, “I’m seventeen.” His face drops and he sits up a little straighter, no longer as playful as he was before.
So what if Sam’s possibly twenty-two? You’re only a few years younger, and he’s so gorgeous it wouldn’t really be that wrong to do something. Couldn’t you have pretended to be eighteen? Who said honesty is the best policy? Fuck them, man.
“Sam?” You ask when he’s been quiet for too long, even if only a couple of seconds that the music fills. “You okay?”
“Yeah, everything’s fine.” He shuts the car’s engine off and raises the windows, “let’s go,” once you’re out of the car he throws his cigarette onto the ground and takes out a packet of gum, then hands you one too. You take it with a smile.
You spot everyone pretty quickly, Gen, Jess and Emmy, the only girls you remember, are sitting on a booth so you head there and the whole way you’re getting looks from jess that you try to ignore.
You wish it could be like that. And maybe it would’ve been. Maybe he would’ve kissed you or asked for your number or something if you’d kept quiet.
part two; and all my life, I’ve been wanting this forever.
It goes unsaid! — I love your writing. 🌷
(Insert New Yorker accent) Y'see, CJ.. i've had a hankering for some Peepaw Turtles (& Mama April if you can imagine it). (swirls cup in hand, sloshing the contents inside like some sophisticated taboo drink, some mystery liquid, but it's literally just cranberry juice)
I'm diggin' for the typical Found Family trope, all that jazz. Feel me? Platonic, of course! Who d'ya think I am? — Envision with me, CJ! (that one Buzz and Woody meme, you know the one)
Headcanons for 🥁🥁 :: A child reader! Adopted into the loving encompassing warmth that is the arms of the Hamato Clan? Each of them aged up as appropriate barely functioning adults, ✨thriving✨ in the happy ending that is Post-Kraang New York, everyone doing their own thing and most importantly they've got each other. THEN, oh, but THEN—
A kid comes along. That kid, cast-aside with nobody and nothing to their name (because apparently after a whole 🍑 war, we can't have EVERYTHING THAT'S NICE /lh /but also srs), timid and beaten by the world but still loves somethin' fierce with a heart of gold, is found one day by the respective member of the Clan! All of whom, individually, agree to take them in and watch them flourish from under their wing. At least until they can fly on their own. But even then, they'll still always be there for them. They never thought they'd have a kid Leo with the exception of Casey, and Don's Shelldon ofc I have respect on my main bot's name, but that's just life isn't it? It's full of surprises.
Whaddya say? You up to the plate? (affectionately and very gently slugs your chin, like a dad or smth PFT 😂💕)
- idk if you have siblings but,, yk how they’ll playfully fight and say “mom/dad found you in the dumpster”?? well that was ACTUALLY the case for you. you were literally found in (near) a dumpster.
- i think april was the one to find you ofc !! she saw you were badly bruised and injured but still held out a fight against her bc you didn’t know her.
- eventually she gets you to calm down and leads you back to the lair. on your walk back she lets everyone know the situation
- when you walk into the lair with april, their hearts immediately drop bc,,, why is there a little kid out in the city alone???
- the first thing they do is take you to med bay to tend to your injuries. it hurts the turtles and april to see a little kid so injured.
- while they’re patching you up, april asks you what was going on and why you were alone. you explained to her that your parents were lost during the war and you had stayed at a foster home before running away bc your foster mom was a pos :(
- this made them feel very conflicted bc on one hand, you need to go back but on the other, you shouldn’t go back.
- they made sure you were asleep before bringing this topic up.
“we can’t just let them go back there… you heard what the kid said!” april exclaimed, her voice was cracking at the thought of what that woman did to you. “i know… i know. but what can we do? there’s obviously gonna be some sort of search or something.” donnie sighed into his hands. “what if we just like… kept them but legally.” leo suggested with a curious look. mikey tilted his head, “do you mean adopt them?” “ahah! that’s what it’s called!” leo snapped his fingers. raph told them they should discuss this in further detail before jumping straight to that.
- so after a very long discussion on what to do, they decide that adoption would be a good choice, but only if you wanted them to.
- when you woke up from your nap, they sat you down and spoke to you about it. you were extremely wary of them, being in the system was difficult and unsafe sometimes.
- you decided to say ‘f it all, if they kill me then at least i’ll go out with a full stomach’
- april is quick to start the process. she knew that she could adopt you. she has a stable income, a two bedroom place, and plenty of time to raise you well.
- once the forms and orders are properly processed, you’re officially released into her care.
- it’s the first time you’ve felt,,, safe since the loss of your parents at 6 yrs old.
- they protect you with their life, train you to defend yourself, and help you with your schoolwork (donnie mainly)
- they see how much potential you have and teach you the hamato clan’s ways.
- they see your burning passion for justice even though you’re so young.
- never would they have thought that a kid (besides casey) would effect them this much.
- they didn’t even expect to be raising a kid, especially all together. it was never in their itinerary. but that doesn’t mean they love you any less.
- you’re their world now and they need to protect you until you’re strong enough to take off on your own. they hoped it’d be long before that could happen.
- also when casey jr sees you he’s just like ‘ayo?! my older sib is a whole child now???’
- then upon hearing this, the clan now knew that no matter what were to have happened, they would’ve taken you in anyways.
different causes of sickness
a friend had asked me for some advice on how I write differences between different types of sickness or reasons someone could get sick! so I typed up a reference of details I try to keep in mind in my writing. not by any means meant to be comprehensive but these are some of the more common things I see used or use myself!
eta: if you found this interesting or useful consider tipping me on kofi (/jallyns) or getting a $5 commission so I can fix my computer
drinking related:
drank too much: everyone’s threshold for this is going to be different obvs both in terms of how much alcohol they need and how wasted they’re able/willing to be before getting sick. also ime you have to be QUITE drunk for being drunk alone to make you sick, to the point where it may be dangerous, so personally I like this combined with something else - motion, something not sitting right in their stomach, etc - but it can be good otherwise too. probably the first thing the character will notice or be aware of if they have any warning is that being drunk stops feeling good at this point. they might feel flushed and/or clammy and will probably feel dizzy, their mouth might feel really dry depending on what they’ve been drinking. this is probably also the point where they recognize they have limited control of their body, feet might feel too heavy to move or head might be spinning, may feel very clumsy and suddenly become AWARE of it.
they might FEEL motion sick even if they’re not moving too because their motion sense is fucked at this point. might feel heavy but this is likely to be a whole body heaviness NOT just their stomach (though they might be very aware of it); might or might not be able to place the feeling of nausea. maybe burping but it depends on what they’ve been drinking (carbonated or not, mixed with soda, etc) and what else they ate! they MIGHT feel okay after throwing up but their friend probably shouldn’t let them drink anymore even if they do.
also this might come with very little warning, they may go from feeling fine and giggling with their friends to suddenly feeling Wrong to hurling all over the floor in a matter of minutes or even a few seconds. if they have friends with them who have been with them drunk regularly, depending on who’s more sober their friends might notice they look unsteady and/or queasy before they realize they don’t feel well.
other good things here: alcohol that tastes so strong it’s all they can taste when they throw it back up, feeling dizzy but not placing it as nauseous right away, feeling like their head is too heavy to lift. reeling on their feet when a drink hits them too hard and feeling the whole room spin.
drank too quickly - more likely to come on SUPER suddenly, but they’ll probably recognize it right away (unless they’ve already been drinking) because the alcohol hasn’t had time to get to their brain yet. so with gradually drinking more than they should they will get drunk first and THEN get sick, but if they drink too much too fast right off the bat they’ll start to feel some effects probably but they’ll also know pretty quick that their drinks aren’t gonna stay down.
hung over - throwing up from a hangover is a combination of a buildup of alcohol byproducts in the stomach, and the stomach lining being irritated + producing more acid. a headache is also a significant part of the misery of a hangover but (unlike a migraine, where the pain directly leads to vomiting) isn’t necessarily related to any queasiness, so the headache might get worse with sound, light, or movement, but their stomach likely won’t. they might feel a little like they have heartburn (or actually GET some acid reflux) from acid buildup, and their stomach might be sore or feel too warm as well as being upset.
the only real cure for a hangover is slow sips of clear fluids and bland foods to help settle the stomach and reduce the acid, but lots of people swear by other things - certain kinds of foods, drinking more alcohol, etc, so that’s something you can have fun with! depending on how much alcohol is still in their bloodstream, they might also still feel a little drunk/tipsy and have some issues with their balance, thinking clearly, etc, which could make the nausea worse; also some people might always get sick from hangovers but others might not so consider how your character deals with that! They also might wake up sick, or feel sick right away, or might not feel sick at all until trying to get some fluids or take meds for their headache (especially since ibuprofen/aspirin also irritate the stomach lining).
food related:
ate too much -  character will likely feel bloated and tight, food might feel heavy in their stomach. depending on what they’re stuffed with there might be burping esp if there’s a lot of gas in their stomach, or a lot of gagging and unproductive dry heaving if it’s very heavy/solid. might need to drink something to get anything up, or have help from someone, or might just take a while to finally puke as their overstuffed stomach struggles to break down their meal enough that their stretched out muscles can get anything moving. any firm pressure on the stomach is gonna feel worse and likely to make them gag even if they’re not ready to throw up yet. maybe weak strained tummy noises as they try to digest. (side note if a lot of their stomach contents are liquid like soup, drinks, etc they’ll throw that up a lot faster; also a good excuse to discuss sloshing/jostling/swirling around in their tummy)
ate too quickly - ties in well to eating too much since it’s easy eating in a hurry to not realize you’re full until it’s already a little late - eating or drinking anything too fast can also make some people’s stomachs hurt or get upset in general, and is an easy way to end up swallowing a lot of air which can obviously lead to feeling much more full and tight with lots of burping that could easily bring up more!
ate something bad - this could be rotten, poorly prepared, or just something that upsets their stomach but what it is might change the feeling of it so there’s definitely variety here. probably also feels heavy but more localized, like they can feel the specific food they ate and where it’s settled in their stomach. might also be painful and cause cramping and tenderness. imo nausea from this is more likely to come in waves and recede but might also be more readily recognizable as nausea. some things I like in this scenario - character thinking about what they ate and feeling worse, imagining they can feel individual parts of their food in their stomach, burping and tasting what they ate (possibly noticing the taste having gone sour / etc in their stomach). good place to describe stuff like how greasy smt was/feeling the grease coating their stomach, or otherwise talk about the specific way the food feels in their tummy and how much it makes them want to puke. unlike with eating too much, they’re likely not to feel better until ALL of the offending food is out of their stomach (while with overeating, they may throw up a few times and then start to feel better once there’s less pressure on their stomach).
general notes - if something the character ate is what’s making them feel sick, a lot of focus on hyperawareness of how much food is in their stomach/how heavy it feels are gonna be big sensory things (as well as maybe taste, pressure/tightness, stomach contents moving around)
illness
appendicitis - if you’re looking for something more serious than food poisoning or a stomach bug, this is sure to end up with a character in the hospital as they’ll need surgery! the big distinguishing thing is pain, which will be sharp and located on the lower right side of the abdomen (or may start near the navel and move down). any kind of exertion or sudden muscle movement can make the pain worse. if the character or one of their caretakers is knowledgeable and suspects appendicitis, they might do the rebound test, which causes pain to get drastically worse AFTER placing pressure on the area and releasing it. sickness usually begins after the pain starts and may get worse when something exacerbates the pain as well.
in addition to nausea and vomiting, other symptoms can include fever, bloating, and bowel issues (either diarrhea or constipation), which will usually get worse over the course of the infection. if the character is treated soon enough (within 2-3 days) they’ll usually feel better after surgery and recover relatively quickly, but if they’re not seen by a doctor and the appendix ruptures they’ll likely need more extensive treatment including antibiotics and a longer hospital stay to make sure they won’t develop sepsis. (in some cases, symptoms could seem to suddenly go away when the appendix ruptures because it releases pressure, but worse symptoms would rapidly develop!)
rarely, there’s also such thing as chronic appendicitis, where milder symptoms may appear and recede over the course of weeks or months before developing into acute appendicitis and prompting surgery.
coughs, colds, strep, etc - can all cause vomiting as secondary symptoms thanks to postnasal drip, throat irritation, or forceful coughing. serious enough throat irritation or buildup of mucus can make a character gag, or feel the need to, and so can coughing up phlegm from their chest. if they’re sniffly and have their sinuses draining down the back of their throat, they may end up swallowing a lot of mucus too which can make them feel nauseous as their stomach gets full of sticky snot. I think these work best as emeto scenarios for characters with weak gag reflexes!
food poisoning - separate from eating something bad because food poisoning from a virus or bacteria is a longer lasting illness with a later onset; the character may first get sick within a few hours of eating the contaminated food, or it may incubate and make them sick within a day or two. like stomach flu (also frequently foodborne) many types can cause both vomiting and diarrhea, but symptoms vary depending on specific cause. characters also might puke early on and then develop more symptoms and become sicker later as bacteria multiply and produce toxins, and may take several days to recover from the later onset where they could have persistent nausea, or might feel okay and even regain their appetite if they don’t try to eat  but be unable to keep much or any food down. most types of food poisoning also cause pain, swelling, bloating, and cramping, usually in the lower part of the stomach and upper intestines, so those are other symptoms your character might have to deal with in addition to puking!
stomach flu - character may be feverish or achy as well as nauseous while their body fights the infection, which is an additional great source of hurt/comfort fuel! can cause both vomiting and diarrhea, so even food they manage to keep down might still sting them later. because it directly causes irritation and inflammation in the stomach and lower GI tract, character might throw up frequently or after every meal, or might be able to handle clear fluids but no solids, or some bland foods but nothing with significant sugar, spices, or fat. they also might only be able to drink or eat in very small amounts without bringing it back up. their stomach may hurt and feel like it’s cramping even if they haven’t tried to eat, and they may get only very brief relief of nausea after each time they’re sick because it reduces the immediate pressure on the stomach but not the inflammation; they might feel nauseous constantly or end up dry heaving even when there’s nothing in their stomach, and might need to keep a basin of some kind nearby for a couple of days since they can’t be sure if they’re done. dehydration is a common complication and can cause headaches, weakness, and dizziness in addition to other symptoms! the most common stomach virus, norovirus, is also EXTREMELY contagious, and virus particles can aerosolize and scatter widely during vomiting, so the caretaker may not be safe either.
injury, other medical
anaesthesia - people react to this in all kinds of ways but getting sick is really common so it can be combined with just about any reaction. character might be disoriented or dizzy and have trouble with balance, walking, other coordinated movement. some might be really confused and have trouble communicating their ideas clearly or say things that might not make any sense to other characters. from the anaesthetized character’s perspective though they’re  probably making total sense so it can also be fun to include their muddled thought process and what they’re feeling or thinking that they express in weird ways! other characters might feel pretty clearheaded and be able to communicate clearly though. they might feel “light” or like they're floating, or very  detached from their body; this may cause more dizziness and vertigo. they may also be cold they might feel nauseous right away and persistently from the anaesthetic irritating their stomach, or might only get sick from moving that makes the “floating” feeling worse. general anaesthetic is usually used for surgery so if they aren’t immediately nauseous the character can also wake up really hungry from fasting before, so eating too much or too quickly might also make them realize they’re nauseous and end up with them puking.
concussion - there are a lot of reasons someone might get sick from a concussion, but the most common (non threatening) are vertigo / vestibular disturbance and headaches! the character might  get nauseous or throw up when they turn too quickly or stand up too fast if their balance center is disrupted, or might have head pain similar to a migraine that makes them sick and can have similar sensitivities. mild concussions without other complications can still last up to a week after the injury, but the character should get sick less and less often as time goes on, so the most intense phase for sickness caused by a concussion is shortly after it happens! Frequently repeated or prolonged bouts of vomiting are often signs of more serious injury though, so if you’re keeping it mild they should probably be brief and a little spaced out even early on, though a character might have intermittent nausea between them. other symptoms of concussion are important too here - big ones are short term amnesia, loss of coordination, difficulty concentrating, and confusion. they might also hear ringing in their ears or sometimes have visual disturbances like in migraines!
migraine - the pain from migraines can directly cause vomiting, especially when it’s at its peak, but it might also be caused by aura effects on balance and vision! (some people get tunnel vision or “kaleidoscope” vision with migraines, some just get dizzy, some people even hallucinate strong smells or tastes which could also lead to nausea!) for some people, the headache gets better after throwing up, but not everyone; they also might or might not feel the buildup of nausea or persistent nausea throughout their migraine, or alternately might retch or throw up almost IMMEDIATELY when any trigger makes their pain worse (common triggers are bright or flashing light, loud or high pitched sounds, strong smells, and sudden movement, but people have lots of different triggers so they can be a lot of things!) many people can’t chase off a migraine until after they’ve slept so you might also include them trying to get comfortable only to have their head start hurting worse or their stomach get upset and make them scramble to get over the trash bin.
motion sickness - anyone can get motion sick but some people are more prone to it than others! so you might have characters who always get motion sick in any moving vehicle, or who are okay in cars but can’t travel on water, or who only get sick with intense movement like on roller coasters - or characters who aren’t prone to motion sickness in general, but discover they get it when fatigued, anxious, etc. different characters might also experience it differently - for some there may be a cycle of gradual buildup of nausea until it becomes unbearable and they throw up, while for others it might come on suddenly, or they might have low level nausea throughout a trip but only puke when there’s a more sudden or violent movement. some people also only get motion sick after a period of time, and might be fine on short trips but get sick if they’re traveling longer.
other notes: many people who get carsick don’t get sick if they’re driving! being able to get fresh air also helps many people, as well as focusing on the horizon if possible. some people prone to motion sickness will also experience the opposite when sitting still but watching movement onscreen like in a video game. likewise, reading or looking at a still object for long while moving can trigger motion sickness, even in people who are less prone to it otherwise.
Seasons of Med: Season 4 and Seasons of PD: Season 6: Of Loss and Letters (A Halstead Brothers + Halstead Sister! Imagine)
As always, I do not own any quotes from Chicago Med 4x02.
Y/N's age: 17
Jay's age: 31
Will's age: 33
You sat in your English 11 class and wrote and wrote an essay for your test. Your hand was starting to cramp. Out of the corner of your eye, you saw someone's phone light up from the phone caddy.
Yes, that's right. Your high school now had a phone caddy where students had to put their phones every class. Each student was assigned a number and then that's where they put their phone during that hour. Some teachers didn't care and let you keep it on you, but some did.
Your phone lit up again. You so desperately wanted to look at your watch that was connected to your phone, but you knew that doing so would look like you were cheating, so you decided against it. And, you turned your attention back to your test.
It lit up again and this time your teacher had had enough and stood up to grab your phone.
"Sorry to interrupt your tests," she started, "but how many times do I have to tell you guys to put your phones away with the screen facing the whiteboard. That way it's not dis--" She sucked in a breath as a text came across your screen. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw one word: hospital. And, this caused her to read the text. "Y/N, please come with me."
You stood up, utterly confused, and then left the room.
"Firstly, let me say I didn't try to read your texts. I just saw it out of the corner of my eye and...it's important."
You believed this teacher. She was young, pretty fresh out of college, and one time when you came in for a review session, she made all of you guys brownies to snack on while you worked.
She handed you your phone. It was a text from Jay.
Dad's in the hospital.
Your breath caught in your throat. Was it something with his heart? Had he started drinking again?
"Can I--"
"You can go, Y/N. I'll call the office and have someone bring your books down there after class so you can pick them up there when you come to school later. Drive safe."
"Thank you."
You practically sprinted down the hallway and to your locker as another text came in from Jay.
If you don't answer in the next ten minutes, I'm calling school to get you out.
You finished shoving stuff into your backpack and then started on your way to the office. You went to sign out when one of the secretaries stopped you.
"I've got it, hun. You just take care of yourself." Your teacher must've called down.
"Thank you," you choked out and then left the building, dialing Jay's number as you walked.
"Jay!" you exclaimed when he picked up on the first ring. "What happened to Dad? I was taking a test and then my phone started blowing up. Is he okay?"
"Y/N, there was a fire at his apartment. He's in the ED at Med. Will will fill you in more when you get here." You could tell by the tone of his voice that it wasn't good.
"Jay, you can't just tell me that! There's gotta be more!"
"Y/N, you're about to drive. You'll be at Med in twenty minutes. I don't need you to get in a car accident. Do you want me to stay on the phone with you?"
"Please." You got in your car and then turned your phone on speaker and started your car. "Can you tell me stories on my way there?" you asked Jay. "I need something else to focus on."
"Focus on the road."
"I mean listen to. I need something else to listen to."
"What kind of stories?" he asked.
"Can you tell me how Mom and Dad met?"
"You know how they met: it was at a White Sox game. Dad saw Mom stand up to buy some popcorn and said he fell in love with her at first sight. He must not have been a pain in the ass then. And, his favorite pastime probably wasn't yelling at people like it is now. Probably smiled more, too."
"Technically, he doesn't yell at me," you said. "Except when he was drunk before you started taking care of me and he finished the twelve steps."
"Oh, right. I forgot. I'm his favorite person to yell at," Jay said sarcastically. "He wasn't always an ass, though. He was actually excited to have a daughter at first. And then, his asshole buddies in construction changed his mind and made him think that women weren't his equals."
"Dicks," you muttered. "What did you and Will do when you found out that Mom was going to have me? Were you mad you weren't going to be the youngest anymore?"
"Nah, I was happy I'd have someone to pick on like Will picked on me."
"Hey!"
"Obviously I didn't follow through with that line of reasoning," he laughed. "Mom was telling us how we'd have to play tea parties with you and all that girly stuff. Me and Will obviously weren't too thrilled about that."
"Well, you're lucky I'm not a girly-girl then and didn't really play tea parties."
"That's because I taught you how to kick a soccer ball the minute you could walk. Shocked you didn't play that in middle school and now in high school," he added.
"I'm not competitive enough for that."
"Oh, believe me, we know. That's why you didn't play goalie: because one game you were goalie, you just sat down in the goal and started playing with the grass."
"Goalie was boring. And, you don't get a break; you don't get to sub-in. My favorite part of kiddie soccer was the snacks and juice boxes at the end."
"Don't forget those few times you scored goals during the games," Jay pointed out.
"Yeah, I guess that part was kinda fun."
"See? You had fun."
"Not really. But, I'm pulling into Med now. I'll gonna park and then I'll be in the ED."
"Okay, make sure you remember where you parked."
"Don't worry, I will."
You parked and then made your way into the ED waiting room.
"Miss, I'm going to need you to take a seat and wait to be seen," a nurse you didn't recognize said.
"Oh, no," you started. "I'm not hurt. It's my dad. He was in the fire and my brother called." You looked down at your feet, finally realizing the gravity of the situation. "My brother called and said he's in the ED. Um, one of my brothers is Dr. Will Halstead."
"Oh, I'm sorry, honey. Go right on in." She gave you a sympathetic look.
"Thank you."
You hustled into the ED and looked for Maggie or one of your brothers. You spotted Maggie first.
"Maggie where's--"
"Your dad's in Treatment One." She pointed you in the direction of the room and you made your way over there.
You entered the room at the same time as Dr. Rhodes. "You guys wanna fill her in?"
"What's going on?" you asked, worry evident in your voice.
Your dad started coughing and spit some bile into a bin, causing you to wrinkle your nose in disgust.
"Dad tried to play hero," Jay started to explain, "He forgot he was in his 60s with a bum ticker."
"Yeah, well, this is your fault to begin with," Pat Halstead said.
"Me?" Jay asked.
"Yeah, you stuck me in that fire trap."
"Please, can you two just not fight for once?" you complained.
"Pop, stop talking," Will urged.
Dr. Rhodes started doing an EKG and then ordered some tests, finally shutting your dad up...and saving you from another argument between Jay and your dad. Then, after he was done, he got called out to consult for Dr. Choi.
"I don't need all this," your dad complained once Dr. Rhodes had left the room.
"Calm down," Jay told him rudely. "You're getting yourself all worked up."
"What do you know? You're no doctor."
"Dad," you said.
"You had no right to sell my house!"
"You wanna talk about this again?" Jay practically yelled. "It was a wreck. You couldn't take care of the place."
"You just wanted my money!"
"Hey!" Will yelled, but it didn't stop the two...nothing ever did.
"You don't have any money you thankless old prick!" Jay yelled and then started to walk out.
"Jay!" Will yelled as you started to follow him out, hoping to calm him down. "Y/N, stay here," Will told you.
"Why?"
"I know you're gonna try to calm him down, but he needs to cool off by himself right now."
You huffed. "Fine." You turned back to your dad. "I don't think he really meant it. He was mad. Both of you say things you don't mean when you're angry. You two are a lot alike that way. Like when you said he wasn't a son of yours."
"Yeah, you should apologize for that one," Will agreed.
"Not until he apologizes for what he just said to me. Only then will I--"
Alarms started sounding and lights starting flashing. Will hit a button on the wall and two nurses rushed in.
"Will, what's happening?" you screamed. "What's happening to Dad?"
Will lowered the bed and then put his fingers to your dad's neck. "No pulse. Bag him."
"Wait, he's your dad," a nurse, who you recognized as Monique, said. "Shouldn't another doctor run the code?"
"You got one handy?" Will asked as he started chest compressions.
"Will, what's happening?" Jay asked as he re-entered the room.
"Jay, I need you to take Y/N out of here. Now."
"No, I wanna stay. What's going on?"
"Jay, now," Will stated again.
Jay placed on hand on your back. "Y/N, c'mon."
The alarms were still sounding, the lights still flashing.
"No!" you yelled.
"Y/N, I need room in here," Will told you. "The best thing you can do for Dad is to leave this room."
"No! I wanna stay!" you yelled again.
Jay looked at Will and he nodded. Then, you felt yourself being lifted off the ground by Jay.
"Put me down! Put me down!" You started kicking and swinging your arms, but he didn't budge. "Let me go back in there!"
Once safely out of the room--and having drawn the attention of most people in the ED--did Jay finally put you down. You tried to run back towards the treatment room, but Jay scooped you back up.
"Nope. We're going outside," Jay told you.
"Fine. But, once we're out there, I'm not walking with you."
You crossed your arms in frustration. After that little stunt he pulled back there, there was nothing he could say that made you want to be around him.
"That's fine. Just keep your phone on you."
***
As you kept walking down the sidewalk to the right--Jay had went left as soon as you walked outside because you didn't want to be around him--you spotted none other than Kelly Severide sitting on a bench, looking like he was currently throwing himself a pity party.
"Hey," you said as you walked up to him.
"Y/N? what are you doing out here?" he asked as he looked up.
"I could ask you the same thing."
"Well, have a seat. You look like you've been crying."
"So do you," you pointed out.
"Stella's in the ED," he admitted. "She had a nasty inhalation injury. They uh, they might not be able to save her lung...which means she wouldn't be able to be a firefighter anymore." He looked back down.
"I'm sorry, Kelly. But, Stella's a fighter."
"Yeah, I know. She left home when she was eighteen and she didn't have the best home life before that either."
"She told me."
"She told you?" he asked, looking back up at you.
"Yeah, when she helped me get ready for homecoming, she told me that she gets it. She gets what it's like not having a mom to help you get ready for dances."
"Dude, we have a problem," Will said through the phone to Jay.
"Which is...?" Jay asked.
"Nat got called in. We don't have anyone to help Y/N get ready for the dance."
"Shit," Jay cursed. "Yeah, that really is a problem. Let me make some calls."
Jay hung up the phone with Will and then scrolled through his contacts. He thought about asking Hailey, but he wasn't super close with her yet, so she was off the table.
Then it hit him: Stella.
But he didn't have her number.
But he had Kelly's.
"Please don't be on shift, please don't be on shift," he muttered as the line started ringing.
"Hey, Halstead," Kelly answered.
"Hey, man. Listen, I've got a huge favor to ask you. Well, actually, it's more you asking Stella for the favor."
"What do you want me to ask her? She's right here."
"Well, it's Y/N's homecoming dance tonight and Nat was gonna come over and help her get ready and she got called into work. I was wondering if maybe Stella could come over and help Y/N out."
"Okay, I'll ask her."
He heard mumbling which he guessed was Kelly talking to Stella. "I'm gonna put her on," Kelly said after a minute.
"Okay."
"Hey, Jay," Stella said into Kelly's phone.
"Hey, Stella. Kelly explain everything to you?" Jay asked.
"He did. I'll be over there in an hour. Unless you need me sooner, then I can make it half an hour."
"An hour works great. Thank you so much. You're a lifesaver, really."
***
Jay had left to run to the store and had told you that Stella would be there in an hour. So, when someone knocked on your apartment door twenty minutes later, you were utterly confused.
You got up from the couch and looked through the peephole in your apartment door, seeing none other than frick and frack...otherwise known as Adam and Kevin.
"What are you two doing here?" you asked as you opened the door. "If you're looking for Jay, he went out to run some errands."
"No, we're actually here to see you," Kevin said.
"Me?"
"Yeah," Adam confirmed. "Aren't you supposed to be in a dress or something?"
"I'll put it on after Stella dose my hair," you told them. "Sorry, c'mon in."
The two entered the apartment, but you were still confused as to why they were here, and why they were here for you and not your brother.
"I guess we can teach her like this," Adam said.
"Might be better, too," Kevin started. "That way she won't rip her dress when we're first teaching her."
"Uh, excuse me. Right here, guys. What are you planning on teaching me?" you asked, annoyed that they were talking about you like you weren't even there.
"We are here, little Y/N, to teach you how to fight," Adam answered.
"First of all, don't ever call me little Y/N again. Second of all, no you're not. What's the real reason you're here?"
"That's it," Adam laughed.
You raised an eyebrow, so Kevin decided that he needed to clarify. "It's just for self-defense. Just in case a horny teenage boy comes up to you and starts grinding on you at the dance, so you'll know what to do."
You were still skeptical about this, but they did have a good point. You had to give them that.
"Okay, so what do I do? And, did Jay put you two up to this?" you asked.
"He didn't," Adam answered. "We came of our own free will. First thing you need to know about throwing a punch is doing it with a closed fist." You closed your fist. "Perfect. Now, when you throw the punch, make sure your arm is locked out."
You did as he said and your punch was a little flimsy, but you worked on it.
"Is this the right color you think? I tried my best," Jay said as he met Stella in the elevator on their way up to his apartment. He pulled out a sparkly black bottle of nail polish. Stella had asked if your nails were done, and when he said no, she asked if he could pick up some nail polish while she packed up all her hair stuff and makeup to help you get ready. He had reluctantly agreed. By looking at the picture of your dress he had on his phone--it was a two-piece dress where the skirt portion was long enough that it covered your belly. The skirt was white with a floral design and the top was black with sequins--and used that to figure out what color nail polish to pick. Stella told him to keep it simple, so he just picked up a black bottle with some sparkles.
"Perfect!" Stella exclaimed as she looked at the color.
They got off the elevator and then walked to your and Jay's apartment. When Jay opened the door, he was met with one of the weirdest sights he had seen in his life: Adam was rolling around on the floor in what looked to be pain and you were jumping up and down and celebrating and then giving Kevin a high five.
"What happened here?" Jay asked.
"Oh, hey bro," Kevin said.
"Hey, Jay," Adam gritted out from his spot on the floor.
"We were teaching Y/N self-defense in case someone grinds on her at the dance," Kevin supplied. "And, we got to the kneeing part."
"So, she kneed him where the sun don't shine?" Jay laughed.
"Yeah," Kevin confirmed.
"Good job, Y/N. Adam, I'll get you ice and a beer. Kev, you want one?" Kevin nodded and Jay handed the small bag containing the nail polish to Stella.
"So, here's the deal," Stella started. "Natalie got called into work, so you're stuck with me helping you get ready. I've got some nail polish that your brother so generously went out and picked up for you, a straightener, a curling iron, tons of bobby pins and little hair ties, and tons of makeup. Just tell me what you want and we'll get the ball rolling."
You helped Adam up off the ground and then started towards your room, Stella following close behind.
***
"You know, I never had a mom to help me with this kind of stuff either," Stella confessed as she was twisting your hair.
"You didn't?" you asked. "Who helped you?"
"My mom was in and out of my life in high school, so usually one of the nice neighbor ladies helped me with my hair. The makeup was all me."
"So, you know how it is. I feel like it's harder for me than for Will and Jay because they both had Mom for over twenty years. I only had her for nine."
"Well, if you ever wanna talk about girl stuff, I'm your girl. Now, anyone special you wanna dance with? Or are meeting him at the dance?" Stella asked.
"Well, there is someone." You blushed.
"Girl," she dropped your hair. "You can't just leave me hanging like that. Who is it?"
"His name's Caleb. He's really good friends with my friend, Andrea." Stella knew who this was. She knew that you had saved her life during the shooting half a year ago. "He's really cute. Tall, Brown hair. Blue eyes. One of the star players on the football team," you told her wistfully.
"Ooh, you got it bad," Stella laughed.
"I got what bad?"
"Your crush on this Caleb kid. You are crushing on him so hard, Y/N. Can't say I blame you. The popular kid is always the way to go...as long as he's not a douche."
"He's actually not. He's actually really nice."
"Well, does Caleb have a date to the dance?" Stella asked.
You sighed. "He does. Her name's Sasha and she's a total bitch. Excuse my French."
"Well, I'm gonna let you in on a little secret: sooner or later, the dude sees his girl's true colors."
"I, uh, I thought about asking him to dance. I remember Jay saying when I was like four and he was going to his senior prom, that if he wasn't dating Allie and a girl asked him to dance, that he'd dance with her because it takes guts to ask someone to dance. But, since Caleb's got a date, that probably won't happen."
"Hey, if he's dancing solo and a slow song comes on, you gotta ask him to dance. Shoot your shot, girl."
"You're right. I'm gonna ask him to dance. I will ask Caleb to dance."
"That's the spirit! Now, we gotta get you looking extra hot so he falls in love with you when he's staring into your eyes while you two are slow dancing the night away."
You laughed and Stella returned to your hair.
***
Later that night, a slow song came on and Sasha was nowhere to be seen with Caleb. But, he was on the dance floor, near the back wall, all by himself. So, you asked him to dance. He said yes, and after, he even gave you a hug. Best dance of your high school career so far.
After you texted Andrea to tell her that you danced with Caleb because you had no idea where she was, the next person you texted was Stella. You knew she'd be hella excited for you.
You crushed on Caleb for a few months after that. But, then he got a new girlfriend and ended up cheating on her with not one, but two different girls. Needless to say, your crush on him died the second you found out this information.
"She loves you, you know," you said to Kelly.
"She told you this?" he asked.
"She didn't have to. Every time Stella sees you, or even when she talks to you, her face lights up."
"She's good for me. That's for sure."
You paused. You knew Kelly didn't have the best relationship with his dad and neither did Jay, Will, or even you. You also knew his dad had died a few months ago, around October and it was currently February. "Did you ever get mad at yourself?" you asked.
"About what?"
"When your dad died. You knew he wasn't the best person, but you were still sad."
"I'm sorry, Y/N. I don't understand where you're going with this," Kelly apologized.
"I know my dad wasn't the best person, hell he was neglectful and unfit to be a parent, still is. So, why do me and my brothers still see him? Why do I still feel sad and scared that he might die?" you asked. You knew this was something you should be asking your school counselor--you had started seeing her a lot this past year because of the shooting--but Kelly was here now. And, maybe he'd understand because he didn't have a very good dad either.
"It's because you remember how he used to be," Kelly said. "You, Jay, and Will all remember when he was a better person. When Benny died, I didn't feel like I was grieving current Benny. I was more grieving for the Benny I knew when I was five years old when he was a good dad. And, I never gave up hope that he'd become a better father as I grew up. When he died, I knew it would never happen. You're grieving the dad you used to know and the hope you might lose of him becoming a better man."
You nodded because you really had no idea what to say. You thought Kelly was right; maybe that was the reason why you were sad and fearful about the possibility of your dad dying. You two sat in silence after that, finding comfort in each other's presence, each hoping for the best, but trying to prepare yourself for the worst.
***
You walked into the ED, to be met with Jay storming out and Will quickly following after him. You ran after them.
When they finally stopped, you made your presence known. "Okay, someone wanna tell me what the hell's going on?"
"Dad's brain dead and Will, Will doesn't want a second opinion and just wants to let Dad die," Jay spat.
"A- Are you sure he's brain dead? Maybe you read it wrong?" you asked. There had to have been some kind of mistake. Your dad couldn't be brain dead; he couldn't be a vegetable.
"Y/N, I know this is a lot of information to take in, but the EEG, the thing that reads brain waves, showed that Dad's brain dead. Dr. Abrams read it and he's our top neurosurgeon."
"I still want a second opinion," Jay restated.
"Abrams is our top neurosurgeon, Jay. The opinion doesn't get any better than that," Will told him.
Jay scoffed. "So all your degrees, all that money, all those years in school, this is the best you can do?"
"Jay, Dad almost died two years ago. He's been living on borrowed time."
"Abrams didn't say Dad had no chance!" Jay protested.
"One thousand to one is no chance."
"So you just want to give up?" Jay clenched his fists at his side.
"I've seen a lot of patients in his condition--"
"There goes that doctor voice."
"I'm sorry, but I am a doctor," Will retorted.
Jay scoffed. "Yeah, we got that message. And Dad knew you thought you were better than us. We always came in second. Hell, Y/N came in second because you were away at med school! Who was looking after her when Mom was dying? Me and Dad. Who took her in because Dad's a shitty parent? Me. You weren't there, and now you wanna decide what happens to Dad?" He stepped closer to Will.
Will took a step closer to Jay as well. "You know that's not true, Jay."
"Yes, it is!"
Will opened his mouth and started to say something, but you weren't listening, you were too busy stepping between your brothers because you sensed a fight about to break out.
"Enough!" you yelled. Both Will and Jay looked down at you, shocked at your outburst. "Dad's fucking dying in there and you're fighting about old shit! Don't you see that it doesn't matter? Do you really want to spend your last moments with Dad fighting? Because I sure as hell don't."
Then, you moved away from them and made your way to the bathroom before you started bawling. You really didn't want to do that in front of the other people milling around the hospital.
Jay sighed and put his hands behind his head as he watched you walk off towards the bathroom.
"I never thought I'd say this," Will started, "but she's right. We can't be fighting right now."
"Yeah, I guess we shouldn't be doing that," Jay said. "I'm sorry."
"It's okay. I know you didn't mean it."
"Guess me and Dad really are alike. Stubborn and quick to yell things we don't mean."
"I'm pretty sure all of us got the stubborn gene, even Y/N."
Then, The COO of the hospital, who Will introduced as Ms. Garrett walked up to them and told them that they had the full support and all the resources that the hospital had available to help their dad. This didn't seem like her at all, so Will excused himself to go talk to Ms. Goodwin. And, Jay figured this was as good a time as any to see how you were doing, as he hadn't seen you leave the bathroom yet.
***
Jay popped his head into the bathroom and since he only saw one stall in use and saw your shoes in that one, he entered the bathroom and locked the door.
He heard a sniffle. "Short Stack? You okay?" He paused, mentally kicking himself. "Stupid question, of course, you're not okay. I know you're in here," Jay said gently.
"Go away," you said through your tears.
"Y/N, you know I can't do that."
"I just wanna be alone...and for you and Will to stop fighting."
"We made up. Me and Will are fine. Can you please come out?"
You swallowed and frantically wiped your tears away and the snot that ran from your nose. Then, you walked out of the stall and immediately over to Jay and hugged him. "I'm sorry," you mumbled into his brown jacket. "I'm sorry for yelling and swearing. I just wanted you guys- I just wanted you guys to stop."
"I know, I know. Neither of us is mad at you. You had every right to be pissed at us."
"It's just- It's just... nevermind. It's stupid."
"Y/N, it's not stupid. Just tell me. I promise I won't laugh."
"You promise?"
"I promise," he confirmed.
You sighed. "I didn't get as much time with Mom as you two did and now I'm not getting as much time with Dad. You guys had both of them--" You drew in a shaky breath. "You guys had both of them at your high school graduations. I won't have that. I won't have that, Jay."
And that's when you crumbled and you just sobbed into Jay's jacket. When you were nine, you never really comprehended the number of things your mom wouldn't be there for, like your first high school dance, your first date, your first kiss, your high school graduation, your college graduation(s), your wedding, your possibly having a kid and her possibly having grandkids. Granted, your dad wasn't the best dad or even the best man in general, but now you'd have neither parent at any of those things, at any of those milestones.
Jay just held you as you continued to sob about all the things your parents wouldn't be there for, holding you just as your mom would hold him whenever he cried when he was younger.
***
You and Jay sat next to each other by your dad's bedside, the sounds of the vent that was currently keeping him alive were the only sounds that could be heard. Will came in and motioned for Jay to meet him outside the room.
"Be right back." He placed a hand on your shoulder.
"Be right outside," Will promised.
Outside of the room, Will explained that the reason Gwen Garrett wanted to keep your dad alive was that his bypass was 29 days ago. And that she just wants to keep your dad alive for one more day just so the hospital didn't take a hit.
"You think Dad would want this?" Will asked. "To stay alive just to buff some numbers?"
"No, no he wouldn't. But, me and Y/N talked while you tried to figure out what that Garrett lady wanted. Uh, Y/N didn't get as much time as we did with Mom and now she's getting less time than we are with Dad."
"Because she's a lot younger than us. What are you trying to say, Jay?" Will asked.
"I think Y/N should decide. She should decide whether or not we keep Dad on the vent because she had the least amount of time with him. She should get to decide whether or not she gets more time with him."
"Jay, I'm not trying to argue with you, but do you really think that's a good idea? Her decision could cause her a lot of trauma down the road if she ends up thinking she made the wrong choice in the future," Will pointed out.
"We could tell her our opinions and what we want, but tell her that ultimately, she gets to make the final decision. That way, she doesn't feel like it's totally on her," Jay suggested.
"And if she doesn't want to make that big of a decision?"
"We decide between ourselves."
Will sighed. Jay did make a good point. "Fine. But if she feels like shit for months, I'm blaming you."
"Add you to the list of people blaming me for bad shit in their lives."
"Are you lumping me together with criminals you put away?"
"Basically."
Will and Jay re-entered the room. "Why does it feel like he's squeezing my hand?" you asked.
Will sighed. He didn't want to crush your hope of your dad coming back, even though he knew it wouldn't happen, but he also knew that he couldn't give you false hope; he knew he needed to explain this to you.
"Those are just reflexes," Will answered. "I'm sorry, Short Stack, but they don't mean anything."
"They don't? He doesn't know I'm here?" You sniffled.
"He doesn't know," Will confirmed.
You nodded and continued to hold your dad's hand.
"Y/N, we have something to tell you," Jay started. You tore your eyes away from your dad and up to your brothers. "Me and Will decided that you should decide whether we keep Dad on the vent because you got the least amount of time with him."
"You- you guys want me to decide whether Dad lives or dies?" you asked.
Will nodded. "If you don't want to, me and Jay can decide between ourselves, but you can still tell us what you'd prefer. If you want to decide, we can let you do that. Or, if you want our opinions before you decide, that's fine, too."
"What do you guys think? I don't want to decide all by myself," you practically whispered.
And so, they explained to you how Garrett just wanted to keep your dad alive for one more day just to buff some numbers and how they didn't think he'd want to be alive just to do that, just to save the hospital from liability.
You also knew that there were one thousand to one odds against your dad coming back and that those weren't odds at all. He'd need a miracle. And, if there was one thing you knew about your dad, it was that he didn't believe in miracles. He believed in hard work, not miracles.
It was for these reasons that you said what you said next: "Let him go."
***
"Just when I thought you couldn't get any dumber," Will started when you and Jay arrived at your dad's apartment a few days later to go through his stuff. Surprisingly, most of it had been spared during the fire. "You went after the person responsible for the fire, didn't tell anyone, and ended up getting shot."
"You got shot?" you yelled as you walked in.
"Nice going, man. She didn't know," Jay said, annoyed. He turned to you. "It hit the vest. I'm totally fine. I just have some bruising on my chest. Nothing to worry about."
"And you two tell me to be careful," you mumbled. "I should be telling you that."
"It's no use, Y/N," Will said. "I tell him all the time. He just never listens."
"You know you're not a cat, right Jay? You don't have nine lives."
Jay rolled his eyes. "Where are we starting?"
***
Jay looked down at the pictures he was going through. He always thought that his dad didn't make it to his police academy graduation. But, the photo in front of him proved him wrong: there, in his hand, was a picture that his dad took of him on stage, getting his badge pinned to his chest when he had graduated from the police academy with the date written on the back.
He put a hand over his mouth to stifle his sobs and keep you and Will from hearing them. But, he didn't know you were on your way to find him.
"Jay, Will's wondering if you want us to order pizza? You good with--" You stopped talking when you saw Jay sitting on the floor, staring at a photo with silent tears streaming down his face. "What's wrong?" You knelt down next to him.
Jay frantically wiped his tears away using the hand that wasn't holding the photo. "Sorry, yeah, tell Will he can order pizza."
"Jay," you said sternly. "What's wrong? And, don't you dare say nothing. Because you wouldn't let me say nothing, you'd bug me until I told you. So, if you don't tell me, I'm going to keep bugging you about it, just like you'd do to me."
Jay chuckled. "I really screwed myself over by using that parenting tactic, didn't I?"
"Yeah, you did. Now, what's wrong?"
Jay sighed. The Halstead stubbornness was starting to show more and more now that you had been living with him. And, because of this, Jay knew that you wouldn't let up.
"I always thought Dad never went to my graduation from the academy." He set the picture on the floor between you guys. "But he did."
You furrowed your eyebrows. "You didn't know that?"
"Why would I? Did you know?" he asked, turning to look at you.
"Yeah. He had to leave early because he had to make sure he was home when I got home from school. That's why he couldn't congratulate you after. He never told you?"
"No, he didn't."
"You know the first thing he said to me when I walked inside?" Jay shook his head. "He said: your brother's a Chicago police officer. I'm proud of him. And your mother would be, too."
"He- he said that?" Jay asked, getting choked up once more.
"He did. He might not have said it, but he was so proud of you, Jay. So proud."
***
Will opened a cabinet to grab some paper plates for you three to eat your pizza off of. As he was grabbing them, his hand brushed up against something leaning up against the back wall of the inside of the cabinet. It wasn't one something, but multiple somethings. He furrowed his eyebrows and took out the entire stack of paper plates, causing the multiple somethings to fall to where the paper plates had previously been. Then, he took the mystery things out of the cabinet.
He gasped when he read the first one.
In his hand, he held six letters, two addressed to each of you, one from your mom and one from your dad.
"Will, what's taking so long?" Jay asked as he flipped open the pizza box. "Food's getting cold."
"I think the pizza's gonna have to wait, guys." Instead of grabbing the plates and bringing them to the table, he brought the letters instead.
"Those don't look like plates to me," Jay pointed out.
"Because they're not." He set the pile of letters on the table. "They're letters. Addressed to each of us."
"But, that's Mom's handwriting," Jay said, flabbergasted.
"What do they say?" you asked.
"Only one way to find out," Will said and reached for the two addressed to him.
You and Jay did the same.
You swore you could hear a pin drop as each of you slowly ripped opened the yellowing envelopes. The seals were easy to open because, since they had been sealed for so long, some of the stickiness was gone.
Will first started with the one from his dad.
Dear William,
I know I said a real man goes right to work. And, I know I was mad at you for doing what you wanted to do and becoming a doctor. But, I guess I just have to think of med school as on the job training...that you pay a ton of money for. You will never hear me say this out loud to you because you know as well as I do that I am as stubborn as they come and I hate admitting I was wrong. But, you did good, kid. Both you and Jay did.
I'll keep this short because, if you're reading this, that means I'm gone and I'm assuming you, Jay, and Y/N are busy with the arrangements. But, just know that even though I don't say it a lot, I love you and I'm proud of you, son.
Love, your father,
Pat Halstead.
Will wiped below his eyes. His dad did say he was proud of him when he was out of surgery two years ago. And, Connor had told him everything his dad had said about him before he went under the anesthesia. But, it was nice to have that in writing because it would be there forever.
It was like all three of you had the same idea to open the letter from your dad first. Your logic was that you figured your mom's would make you cry more, so you figured you'd open that last.
Jay fought to keep his eyes dry as he read the letter from his dad. He regretted the last words he had said to him, now more than ever.
Dear Jayson,
I know you think I hated you for going into the military straight out of high school. But, I didn't. I was just scared, scared I was going to lose you. One thing you don't know is that I tell everyone I work with that you're a war veteran. I love bragging about you and telling people about your accomplishments. They always say I should be so proud of you. And, I'm sorry I never tell you that, but I am proud of you, really proud of you. You fought for our country and saved countless lives over there. Just keep saving the innocent, Jay. That's what you seem to do best...and fight against the people who tell you that you can't do it, just like how you fought against me when I told you not to join the military.
I'll keep this short because if you're reading this, that means I'm gone. But, always remember that I am so proud of you and that I love you so much.
Love, your father,
Pat Halstead.
His dad was proud of him. And now he had a reason as to why his dad didn't want him to join the military: he was scared. And, Jay told himself that if he had his own kids, he'd probably do the same thing because he had seen the horrors of battle and he wouldn't want any of his kids to go through that.
Finally, you read yours. And, as you read it, you were crying more than your brothers. You really didn't care, though.
To my daughter,
As I am writing this, you are nine years old and want to be a doctor. I don't know how that will pan out or if you'll change your mind on what you want to do. But, I am here to tell you, don't let anyone or anything stand in your way of what you want to be. Don't let Will stand in your way and don't stand in his shadow if you become a doctor. Strive to be better than him. Compete with each other if you end up going into the medical field; a little friendly competition never hurt anyone. Be smart and keep your brothers in line because Lord knows they're both as stubborn and as reckless as they come.
Love, your father,
Pat Halstead.
So, Jay was right: Dad wasn't always a sexist pig. And, Kelly was right as well: you missed your old Dad, the one who believed you could do anything, not the one who you knew when you were 13 to now, who was drunk, unfit to parent, and sexist as hell.
Then, Will opened the letter from his Mom.
To my first baby, Will,
First of all, let me say that I love you so much, more than you can ever imagine. I know you'll be a great doctor. Just, be smart, and try to be a little less stubborn because I'm assuming you're going to have to work with other doctors. Find it in you to compromise. I don't know what to say in this because me and your dad agreed that you and Jay and Y/N will get these letters when he's passed as well, so I don't know how far into the future you'll be seeing this. So, I figured I'd leave you with some life tips.
Mom's life tips to Will:
1. Never, ever lay your hands on or disrespect a woman. If you do, I will come down from heaven and smite you myself. This goes for Jay, too.
2. Make sure you help your girlfriend or wife with the household chores, like cleaning and cooking. You never leave all it to her. Again, same goes for Jay.
3. I'm sorry to say this, but never grow out a long beard. You have red hair and if you grow out a beard, you'll look like an overgrown leprechaun. Sorry, sweetheart.
Love,
Mom (Amelia Halstead).
PS. In this envelope you will find $500. This is to help you with med school loans, malpractice insurance, or if you're reading this way into the future, to help you with bills, and your own little family.
Will let out a small chuckle as he read the last life tip. And, thankfully, he had never decided to grow out his beard. And now he never would.
Jay looked down at his mom's loopy cursive handwriting and began to read.
To Jay, my second baby,
First of all, I love you more than you can ever imagine. And I am so, so proud of you for choosing to serve your country. I don't know whether you'll decide to stay in or leave the rangers, but I'm sure you'll be amazing at whatever it is you choose to pursue. And Jay, please keep in mind that you only have one life. Don't be crazy and reckless out there. I don't think you will be, but I'm just reminding you because I'm your mom and that's what moms do, they nag you and they worry about you no matter what. And, if you're reading this, that means your dad has passed away as well. Don't take this the wrong way, but please go see a therapist. You've fought in a war and seen terrible things overseas (I know because you once had a nightmare at home. I just didn't tell you that I knew this) and you've lost both of your parents. You should talk to a professional, sweetheart. But, always remember that I will be with you when your nightmares get rough. And, if Y/N wants to follow in your footsteps and go into the military, talk to her about it, but don't fight her on it like Dad did to you. Finally, I will leave you with some life tips.
Mom's life tips for Jay:
1. Never, ever lay your hands on or disrespect a woman. If you do, I will come down from heaven and smite you myself. I already wrote this in Will's letter as well.
2. Make sure you help your girlfriend or wife with the household chores, like cleaning and cooking. You never leave all it to her. Again, this is in Will's letter, too.
3.  I know you want to save everyone, Jay. And, you have a big heart, but you also take things personally. Just know that you can't save everyone and that is okay. Be kind to yourself and think of all the people you did save as opposed to those who you couldn't. It's okay to grieve for them, but don't let your grief last forever.
Love,
Mom (Amelia Halstead).
PS. Also in this envelope is $500. Use it towards therapy. But, if you already made the leap to go to therapy, one I am proud of you, and two, use it for something else. Donate it to veterans in need maybe. Or, use it to help pay off loans if you decided to go to college if you ended up leaving the military. Or, if you're reading this way in the future, use this money to help with bills and your own little family.
Maybe Jay would start therapy again now. He had gone a while ago, but after his meds stabilized his nightmares again, he stopped going. Maybe he'll go again because as he always said, his mom was a smart lady.
You were ugly crying as you opened the envelope and read the first few words that your mom had written.
To my baby girl,
Y/N, I love you so much and you will always be my baby girl no matter how old you get. I know I only got nine years with you, but know that I will always be with you in your heart no matter where you are. I was so excited when I found out I was having a girl and I'm so sorry we didn't get as much time on earth together as we should have. Continue doing what you love. Don't let your brothers take Beary from you. And, don't take no for answer when someone tells you that you can't do something just because you're a girl. Us girls are strong. As for the future, sweetheart, you have the kindest little personality right now. Never lose that. But, at the same time, don't let anyone take advantage of that. Stand up for yourself and stand up for others in need. I am going to leave you with more life tips than I left your brothers because they're older and should know a few more things than you at the moment...and they aren't girls.
Mom's life tips for Y/N:
1. And, don't laugh at this, but it works. When shaving down there, apply deodorant down there after. It helps to keep razor bumps and itchiness at a minimum.
2. Don't go for the first man that says I love you. You need to make mistakes before you fall truly and madly in love.
3. Girls can be cruel in middle school and high school. It's okay if you only have one or two true friends because having a few super close friends is better than having lots of distant ones.
4. Don't depend on any man for anything. Before moving in with your boyfriend and/or getting married, make sure you are financially stable all by yourself. That way, you will be able to leave him if things go south.
5. When you do get married, always keep money hidden away or have a secret bank account that your husband doesn't know about. That way, if things get really bad really fast, you can get out of there as fast as possible.
6. Finally, and I'm assuming Dad, Will, or Jay has already told you these things, but if they haven't, here they are. When drinking, watch the bartender make your drink. Don't take drinks from anyone. And don't leave your drink unattended.
I love you, sweetheart.
Love,
Mom (Amelia Halstead).
PS. Also in this envelope is a $20 gift card to Build-A-Bear. If you are too old to use it, save it for your kids. Or, if you have kids, give it to your kids. There is also $480. This can be used to pay for dresses for school dances, for college, and if you're reading this way in the future, to start a stash of money that your husband doesn't know about, or to help with bills and your own little family.
All three of you were in tears. But, you always knew that both of your parents would be with you and that they were so, so proud of each of you and that they loved each of you more than the world itself.
A/N: Thank you so much for reading! Leave a comment if I made you cry! I got a request of Kevin and Adam teaching Y/N how to punch, so I incorporated it into this imagine. To the anon who requested that, I hope you liked it! Anyway, please reblog/like and comment to tell me what you think! As always if you want to be added to my taglist, just tell me and I’ll add you! Finally, liked the imagine? Buy me a coffee here.
