I wanna go off about Pentious and Cherri because I adore them
I saw a post in the cherrisnake tag explaining how the whole night club scene felt a little OOC, and I totally agreed! Until I thought... Is it? I agree with the person who wrote the post (here is link to post) that Pentious seems like the kind of dude who would be asking for her fathers permission to court her! I've honestly wanted to write fanfics just like this back when the pilot came out, he really does give off those types of vibes!
I feel like the first few gestures of buying her a drink was him being gentlemanly! But again, like the person who wrote that post said, the mans probably got a lil buzzed, lettin the drinks talk as he moved forward with his Rule Of 3 comedy moment! Again, I fully agree haha! However, I do think another side of his personality was showing during this moment!
Sir Pentious has a desire to be accepted by those he admires! He wants the V's to see him, he wants other Overlords to notice him and his work! He will act like them if necessary! He's hip and cool! Or at least he really thinks he is! That club was Cherris scene! He was invited out by her! He had to act like her! Right??? That would impress her, RIGHT?! Asking her to do things with him that didn't seem... like him? She'd like that, right? That's what she does! She brought him there, after all (only because Charlie told her to, but he never thought he'd make it this far!)
After talking with Charlie in those last few episodes (in the background), the girl probably gave him sound advice to be himself as he tried to confess to Cherri. Being like Cherri didn't work with flirting with her (altho I personally, think she thinks he's a cute silly), so he might as well be himself. Someone who isn't trying to fight with her and "enemies/arch rivals". As he fumbles and runs away, it does look like she's a little sad he didn't confess, although I've seen a few argue that she just looked confused. Even after Angel told her she could hit that, in my personal opinion there was a hint of sadness.
In the fun facts, it says Sir Pentious died in the 19th century. I know he's an inventor, but the fact that he wears a generals outfit makes me wonder if that was him just... Being a silly lil guy thinking back to his time where he could have been high up in the ranks for war, or if he actually was! How much has he been through in life? Was he unable to confess his love before dying? I went to the wiki and couldn't find any information, although even if there were, I'm not sure how much I'd trust from wiki or how much of the info might be considered outdated now that the show is actually out!
The idea that he knew he was risking his after life, about to double die, he didn't want regrets about confessing to Cherri, especially after failing to the night before. Whether he had a similar experience in the living life or not, I do adore that Sir Pentious was able to be himself at least somewhat. Cherri was clearly charmed.
I do see him as a character that would try to court her over time, something I could DEF write a slow burn about! But I do love that he was written as someone who WANTED to get these feelings off his chest! Maybe if he could have, then he could have woo'd her like a proper gentleman! Maybe if we had a longer season, we could have seen more of that. His different attempts, trying to act like others thinking that'd impress her. Not fully aware that being himself was actually the answer all along. Yes, being himself was in a 'life' or death situation and it PROBABLY wasn't exactly how he could have wanted it to go down, but he was nonetheless, able to confess. Not pretending to be someone he wasn't. Yes, he agreed he was out of his mind, but he was being crazy for sacrificing himself! There wasn't time to think, he just had to do. There wouldn't be regrets. He was doing this for his friends, for her, in hopes to keep them safe or buy time.
So I do wish he took his time with her. Was able to flirt, court, and awkwardly confess at his own rate (figuring out he didn't have to pretend he was just like her and could do everything she did, fumbling it lmao) I could see how someone could think this was a ship pushed too quickly and out of the blue- maybe if there was more time in the season it wouldn't have seemed that way! I'm biased, I've been shipping them since the pilot! However, with the screen time they did get, I think it was written well!
And who knows?! There are theories he will lose his memory now that he's in Heaven, he will have lost his memory (which would be VERY sad, but I also adore the drama). I've seen posts where Charlie goes up again or Emily reaches out and they find out Pentious is there! I wouldn't be surprised if Emily remembered The Rizz Master who failed to flirt with a girl 3 times in one night at a club. I do fear Sera is going to do something to him, prevent him from doing anything as the news sinners can come to Heaven shouldn't be known or smth idk... But, I like the opportunities for Cherri and Sir Pentious that they may have in the future!
For all Cherri knows, right now Sir Pentious is double dead! The shipping possibilities are endless with him now being in Heaven! I saw a cute post about them writing letters and sending them to each other via Charlie. I could see Pentious writing this long, elegant letter with a reply of "LMAO XD RAWR" and him LOVING IT!
I'd love to know others thoughts, I just wanted to ramble about them.

Glad you’re enjoying all this ^_^ don’t worry about straining your eyes, by the episode doesn’t mean every episode, you actually can’t miss the change ;) Between whatever the OP before episode 8 was and those at the end, it’s in the last frame. A couple more trivia for you :D Sorry I keep referencing Macky’s episodes LOL esp this one but S3 Ep 4 that screenshot where he dumps the Skeleton Key in the grass and walks off is reminiscent of the scene where Wukong first leaves his staff in the pilots and walks off. And between two storyboard artists, we’ve seen Red Son being drawn in gender nonconforming fashions, using all pronouns and I quote, “Red Son cannot be contained by one measly gender and will be taking all the genders.” The characters are also given their own Pokemon Team by the artists ;) and although they aren’t stated to have confirmed ages so the fans are able to see them however, they are stated outside of the show to be seen as certain ages. Pigsy is 43, Tang is 41, Mei is 23, and MK is at least 18 but fandom mostly places him at 21. MK has also been thought of as going by He/They pronouns and was shown with the transgender flag. Wukong in JTTW is one of four celestial primates who is described as “knows transformations, recognizes the seasons, discerns the advantages of earth, and is able to alter the course of planets and stars.” While Macaque is "a sensitive ear, discernment of fundamental principles, knowledge of past and future, and comprehension of all things." And his name comes from the saying "a secret is not safe between six ears" or "the dharma is not to be transmitted to the sixth ear" which has sneaky dialogue potential. I love playing around with it. Also, the characters are merged with other JTTW characters of similar names. That goes for the entire Brotherhood + Macky, who is merged with the Macaque King who is presented as female in the English translation. This is where the “Great Sage Informing Wind” title comes from for Macky in fics + the wind and shadow magic people sometimes tie together with him. Altho you don’t see his six ears in the show, we get a lot of references through the mech, how sound effects him, and his…unique ability to react as if having heard into the future. You’ll see in the special. But his model sheet does show him with six ears if you ever wanted to know. But fandom draws him with rainbow colorful ears based on another show that has these monkeys :D Lego’s Chinese TikTok (official one) refers to him as “handsome max charisma villain” + mandarin dub calls him “phantom lord” LOL. In a game, he’s very tsundere about admitting he has a monkey king poster in his room. In S4 we like to say he’s homeless. I’m still struggling to verify if it was a show producers tweet I read about him forgetting to pay rent and losing the dojo. Mei’s placeholder name was “mary sue” and it makes me cry, why they do my girl like that 😭 Time passes differently in the Celestial Realm, so a few hours or days on Earth can be weeks or years up there. Might've been why Wukong was rushing in S2 yet seems to have been gone for months :) Lmao, I gotta catch up to where you're at. I've been slowly writing these up since Pitiful Creatures. Ah, it seems you've seen how MK parallels Mei leaving in S3 here! Fun times for everyone ^_^

Aye aye cap'n I'll keep my eyes peels. about to go into nine so should be fun! (I missed it on eight because I wasn't looking)

THAT IS SUCH A MOOD!!!! HOLY SHIT! Red Son I feel you so hard

WHY DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING TO ME? LMAO

I'm in pain :)

31 days of horror 2023 (part 1/?)
Every year in October I challenge myself to watch 31 horror movies, 1 for each day, with varying success. If you're new here, I love horror and so the challenge is more about the commitment, than pushing myself to do something I wouldn't enjoy or do otherwise (thankfully).
So far, so good, I haven't watched anything that angered me or bored me to death. Those first 11 days were actually pretty great overall, and with only 2 rewatches.
Cherry Falls (2000): I thought a slasher starring Brittany Murphy would be an easy like but instead this was the only film in the bunch I did not care for. The attempted subversion of one of the genre's best known tropes (the Virgin Will Be Spared) was not done in a way that felt compelling; the script felt like there were too many cooks in the kitchen, like so many hands had touched it that the original intent had been lost; and aside from that one subversion it was just too bland, too unremarkable. And the transphobia didn't help. Brittany Murphy was stellar tho.
Possibly in Michigan (1983): Day 2 found me already scrambling for a short film as my day was ending, and lucky me otherwise I might have never watched this classic. "80s feminist cannibalism musical" feels like it's maybe doing it a disservice but it's what got me to watch it and I wouldn't know how to begin to talk about it in a more substantial way. If that tagline appeals to you in any way, it's on Youtube, go watch it.
The Exorcist (1973): I had seen that movie once as a teenager, when I was still very new to horror, and all I remembered from it were the scares. Watching it now, the scares are the least of the impressions the movie made on me. If I was a sadist with a cinema I'd program a triple feature on loneliness, alienation, and the loss of the body with this, Lake Mungo, and the original Cat People. (P.S.: I really recommend the following video essay.)
youtube
4. The Exorcist III (1990): First time watching and it scared the shit out of me. I loved it but I haven't been scared like that in a while. Again, there's nothing I could say about this that hasn't been said before. It had some of the worst (honorary) and best things I've ever seen. There is a carp swimming up and down in my brain.
5. Chucky S3E1: Yes episodes of TV count. Anyway, Chucky is back, it's my favourite horror franchise and the show has been, so far, one of the most fun I've had following a TV show ever. That season 3 premiere was a bit underwhelming for me, but certainly not bad. I'm looking forward to the rest.
6. Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (2010): Suffering depression from watching the two Exorcist movies back to back, I decided that rewatching a horror comedy I loved was in order. I used to worship Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, but now...it felt very "eh". I've been damaged by too many excellent films and some of the jokes from this classic just didn't do it as much for me anymore (aside from the "howdy-oh officer, we've had a doozy of a day" bit that makes me crack up every time). However it was still a good time and Dale is still one of the hottest man in horror.
7. Motel Hell (1980): Found out about this one through Stephen Graham Jones' Indian Lake trilogy and I wasn't expecting much from it so I was delighted when I found out how funny it was. Great time for slasher lovers, darkly funny, great performances, some really neat imagery (altho I could've done without the sound the "plants" made, like nails on a chalkboard). Just a silly good time.
8. No One Will Save You (2023): I appreciated the risks this movie took and its story but I struggled to get invested at all. Maybe the alien element just wasn't for me, the minute I saw one of the aliens (which kudos to the film for not beating around the bush and going straight into it) I just stopped caring. I did have a good time overall tho and I was pleasantly surprised at, again, the risks taken and the resistance to spelling every thing out to the audience. The ending was pretty neat.
9. Shutter (2004): The winner of my little poll and I'm grateful to everyone who voted for it. I have no idea how this film ended up on my watchlist but I had been putting it off for while because ghost movies are still one of the subgenres of horror that terrifies me the most. I am glad I was pushed to see this because not only was I not that scared (no really, I didn't even jump that much, I certainly was much calmer than when watching Exorcist III, I am so brave) but I really loved the film's atmosphere and visuals. It's rare, I feel, to see a horror movie so awash with light more or less constantly and still retaining a very compelling moodiness and tension. Very unique atmosphere and that ending wowed me. Also was I the only one to read Natre as trans? I even felt like the film was implying it for a while.
10. Creep (2014): Creep was also in my little poll and, when it ended, I realised I felt slightly disappointed it hadn't won. So instead of waiting on an excuse to watch it, and feeling emboldened by my frankly supernatural bravery during Shutter, I decided to just watch it. And it was the calmest I've ever felt during a found footage film. Seriously not one of the jumpscares got me, that's absolutely unheard of with me. But that didn't make me have any less of a good time. I thought it was hilarious (but obviously not funny in a way that I would recommend it to most people I know), Duplass was magnetic, and I really enjoyed the storytelling. It was also pretty close in some ways to a wrestling storyline that I'm very invested in at the moment so maybe that contributed to how tranquil a time I had. Again, if I owned a cinema and was sick in the head I'd do a double feature with this and the 2022 documentary Mister Organ.
11. Creep 2 (2017): I hate those Reader X Fictional Character fics that haunt tags on here but that's what that film was and I had a good time with it.
If you've read this far: wow. (and see you soon for part 2)

Allie is back on her Albedo hyperfixation bull shit again, let's get this over analyzing of an episode I've been WAITING to talk about out of the way.
Night of the Living Nightmare (Ultimate Alien episode for those who haven't seen it.) doesn't make sense when you really think about it.
Okay so the entire premise of that episode is for the viewer to think that it's Ben being trapped in a nightmare right? And then at the end of the episode we realize that the entire "nightmare" was Albedo's because he got the Cassiopeian Dream Eater stuck on himself from tripping on a smoothie in Ben's room.
Now if you rewatch the episode with keeping in mind that it's Albedo's nightmare the entire time and not Ben's, shit don't make sense.
Fighting the DNAlien, aight okay that makes sense. Ben mentioned the DNAliens during their first meeting, and I'm sure Albedo heard about that while being Azmuth's assistant.
Everyone going missing, that also makes sense.
Vilgax fighting 'Ben', that also makes sense.
Now here's where things get... questionable. (Note to not lose my mind I am referring to the Ben in the nightmare as Albedo even though he looks like Ben. Altho I'm losing my mind as I write this anyway cause the Ben look a like didn't even have to be Albedo, but we're going with that theory for the moment. Even still my point kind of stands.)
Okay so I can ignore the fact that Albedo would have to know where Kevin's garage is for him to head over there to find Kevin. Ben's famous now so maybe there was something online about Kevin's garage.
But how did Albedo know about Aggregor? Okay same thing could be said there too, maybe he was on one of the news stations cause of Ben being famous. And Aggregor was pre-mutation so 'Seeing Ben fight him on the news' isn't too much of a stretch. There's non canon comics where Aggregor is attacking Ben. (Which one is where Ben is seeing an ice skating show about him. That could explain why he's so pissed about Albedo's show, but that comic's non canon. If I do a "Double or Nothing" analysis I'll go into more detail about that comic. Off topic but I do love that Gwen's in a sweater version of her AF Season 3 outfit in that comic it reminds me of my HS lmao.)
Same thing could be said for Julie too, maybe even Ship. (Although it's kind of a stretch that Albedo would know about the Battle Mode outfit to a T for Julie since it's only been in what one episode before this?? And that was before Ben was famous. It was Don't Fear The Repo (Alien Force Season 3) that it was in last that I remember correctly.
And then we get to Hex. Again the stretch could be Albedo saw him on the news fighting Ben or Ben talked about him as a kid when Albedo worked for Azmuth. But Hex was more of a Gwen villain than a Ben one though. There were other villains in the rogue gallery that could be used, but that's probably a whole different rant. (Naming Zombozo since Ben is scared of clowns.)
Here's where I started questioning things I bit: Gwen and Kevin. Okay so Gwen goes into her Anodite form, and Kevin goes into his "Ultimate Kevin" mutated form.
I can possibly make the case that Albedo knew Gwen was an Anodite from when she was a kid, granted she didn't know till she was a teenager. She rarely uses that form, so Albedo wouldn't have saw it on the news or anything. It's always been isolated incidents. But that can be chalked up to if he knew Max had kids with Verdona and he put the pieces together. (Not that he'd care but I'm trying to give him a reason to know that since outside of the Tennysons, Kevin, and anyone she's been in the form around no one else would know.)
Kevin is the same thing. Would his mutated form have been on the news? Him turning into mutant was an isolated incident and Ben was the one going after him not the other way around. (If I remember my Ultimate Kevin arc episodes correctly, it was always Ben going after Kevin or going where he'd be. Kevin did go after people, but I don't think Albedo would care to put the pieces together that it was Kevin.) Should've been Season 3 AF Kevin's mutation as a call back and another hint that it wasn't Ben's nightmare. (Since Albedo saw that mutation.)
Even if we don't assume that Albedo was Ben in the nightmare, the nightmare was ultimately his regardless if he was Ben or not. Shit don't make sense when you really think about it.
"But Allie he knows cause of plot." And that's the issue. Albedo wouldn't know half the shit that's in the nightmare, especially cause before this he was going around the country doing Ben 10 Live to get money. (Double or Nothing was like 11 episodes prior to this and that episode was WAY into Ultimate Alien so he did it for awhile till he was discovered by the trio.) Maybe Albedo had a lot of time to watch Ben on TV, which yeah probably since he knew the teen was famous now. But idk shit don't make sense.
I've said this before but yeah a bunch of it could be chalked up to "It was on TV/the extranet" but over analysing be a bitch. Especially with the stuff that no one outside the people involved with those events would know??? (Although Alien X was on a smoothie cup although Ben only transformed like what once at that point in an isolated incident??? The second time was after that I think.)
#ben 10#albedo ben 10#ben 10 uaf#ben 10 albedo#ben 10 ultimate alien#Allie over analyses a kid's cartoon cause shit don't make sense#Night of the Living Nightmare#plot demands he knew all this I guess#don't get me started on Omniverse Albedo episodes cause I also have comments#I probably have other comments on other UAF Albedo episodes but this one bugged me like.... a lot

I've seen people saying that Crosshair's chip was removed in episode 3, and I'm sorry, but that's not when, IF it ever happened.
First of all, it makes no sense whatsoever that Tarkin was ok with removing the only way to control Crosshair. Tarkin knows how loyal clones are to each other, no matter what. He doesn't like clones, he doesn't trust them. Why would he give the go for Cross' chip to be removed at the risk of him turning on them at any time, despite Crosshair following orders?
Second, Cross didn't have a bandage/scar/shaved patch of hair after the so-called removal
Exhibit A
However, Wrecker, Tech, Hunter, and even Rex in tcw s7 had one when their chips were removed
Exhibit B, C, D, and E
(Sorry for the quality of the pics. Took them as snapshots on my phone)
It seems to be too deliberate showing no sign of surgery on Cross while making it obvious in the others. If they truly wanted to go on the road of Cross not having a chip and making a big reveal on episode 15, all they need to do was never showing Crosshair's right profile during that scene on episode 3, but they did. A LOT!
Let's say, that the chip was taken out after that but before Bracca. Yeah nope, a distorted scar from the surgery should be visible anyway. I have scars over surgical scars and you can notice the difference even when one overlaps the other. Skin heals differently. The same applies if it was afterward.
Another proof that Cross is lying about not having a chip is the way he rubbed his head, like if he had a headache... Remember how was Wrecker between episodes 3 to 7? Yeah, me too.
Another big possibility is that Cross is not lying because he actually believes his chip was removed but It was not.
It makes much more sense that Crosshair lied or told what he thinks it's true to Hunter about the chip as a way to convince him and the rest to join him and the empire. Because ultimately all Crosshair wants is to have his brothers back.
After the batch escaped Kamino the first time, Cross has been super lonely. He never bonded with his new squad. Do you think he's happy with the results they get, the batch escaping them several times, and such? His record of perfect missions went to hell, just as it did for the batch. There's some arrogance in Crosshair believing himself and his brothers superior. It's nothing new, he always had that. In a twisted way, he wants to prove it to the empire. Tarkin and especially Rampart have used that to manipulate him.
One tiny little detail more. Like @bb-8 said in a post, it's too much of a coincidence that AZI-3, a medical droid with experience in removing chips (altho with not the best outcome😢), is with them. If his only purpose was to help Omega while she was in Kamino, something would've happened to him already. Also, Nala Se's med lab is underwater, most likely, will be intact when Tipoca City is not. That's the escape route aaaaaand the perfect place for chip removal. Bc Bracca is NOT an option. I can tell you that.

Today's rant brought to you by: Queer Eye Japan, can we all just try to be as kind as they try to be?
After watching the Queer Eye Japan super short season, I wanted to google to see the overall reaction to the show, make sure that my western eyes were correct in seeing the care that was given to the culture. Were cultural taboos, other than being outwardly gay, crossed? So I find this article in the top results and other than the perspective, why tho? Tokyoesque.com had an article with a higher reading level, with surface level appreciation but at least better written.
I can't get over this hate article though. Unfounded, dumb, wrong and incorrect. Do not go forward unless you like that blistering kind of anger from me.
But the reasons just get weaker as the article extends: "Hurts the country it set out to save?" Looking for white savior much? They did not go to save Japan, they gave some free shit to like 4-5 people, think smaller.
Their culture guide wasn't gay enough.
You want to suggest any lgbt insta models or celebrities, use your platform to raises some up?
"There is a growing sexless culture in Japan for married and unmarried people, and it is perilous watching Queer Eye present this without any context behind what is driving this behavior."
Sexiness is what the fab 5 embrace, unfortunately and it was probably discussed behind the scenes of how much talking about sex was allowed or polite and the conversation of not having sex is closer to the tip of the tongue rather than the feeling of sexiness. The West is not the ones blasting that information. It is across multiple Japanese printed newspapers and online stories by now and the "context" is still being discussed and debated amongst Japanese. So I don't think any outsiders should be weighing in or "explaining" this phenomenon. We can repeat what we have been told but guessing at the reasons is not our place. The reasons illustrated by the author of the article seem lacking, a take but not the only one, but who am I to speak on that being in a sexual relationship with someone who pulls from that culture?
Kiko begins to lecture Yoko-san on how she “threw away her womanhood” (referring to a Japanese idiom, onna wo suteru) by going makeup-free and wearing drab, shapeless clothes.
The mistranslation by the subtitles fixed by this author was necessary information. But Kiko didn't lecture her on it, it was brought up by Yoko before any of them arrived, that was her theme, that was what she had decided to focus on. Meanwhile, if you watched Jonathan, he understood there was no time to spend on makeup and skincare so provided her a one instrument, 3 points of color on the skin to feel prettier. That and the entire episode being the 5 treating her like a woman on a date, not trying to hook her up, which is what they did in American eps.
"In teaching a Japanese woman, who already struggles to find time for herself, how to make an English recipe, Antoni is making great TV and nothing more."
So Antoni shouldn't have taught her apple pie because it's too exotic for a Japanese woman. (Can you smell the sexism?)
He didn't make an apple pie, altho Yoko did mention her mother made that for her when she was a kid. He made an apple tartine after going to a Japanese bakery who makes that all the time. Then highlighted the apples came from Fuji in true Japanese media fashion. Honey, American television doesn't usually highlight where the ingredients come from. A Japanese producer told him to do that. So all worries handled within the same ep. She got Japanese ingredients, had the recipe shown to her and then made it for her friends in her own house. Did the author actually watch this show or nah?
"beaten over the head with his western self-help logic. “You have to live for yourself,” he says."
The style of build up the 5 went for was confrontational but in a "I'm fighting for you" way. It's hard to describe, but the best I can say is, a person has multiple voices in their head, from parents, siblings, society, and maybe themselves. By being loud and obnoxious, American staples right there, they are adding one more voice. You deserve this, you are amazing, you are worth it. I know this is against most Japanese cultural modesty, but maybe it shouldn't be.
Sarcasm lies ahead:
Apparently: mispronunciation is microaggressions, not just someone who had a sucky school system. Yea okay, They're laughing at the language not at how stumbling these monolinguals are with visiting another country. Mmhm. Japanese don't say I love you and don't touch and that should stay that way instead of maybe, once in awhile, feeling like they can hug. Yeah, let's just ignore Yoko's break down that she had never hugged her lifelong friend after hugging strangers multiple times. Maid cafes are never sexualized in Japan ever, just don't go down that one street in Akihabara where the men are led off by the hand sheepishly blushing. Gag me. And Japanese men love to cry in front of their wives and would never break down once the wife leaves. I have never seen a Japanese movie showcase that move. Grr.
"I identify as many cultures."
So you're a Japanese man when it's convenient for you to get an article published? Are you nationally Japanese or just ethnically or culturally?
Homeland is an inherently racist word?
"After the Bush administration created the Department of Homeland Security after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, a Republican consultant and speechwriter Peggy Noonan urged, “the name Homeland Security grates on a lot of people, understandably. Homeland isn’t really an American word, it’s not something we used to say or say now.”
Yes, let's use a Washington Post article rather than a etymology professor. Yes, the google search results increased after 2001 Homeland Security was used but the word has been around since the 1660s and I've read multiple turn of the century lit on white people returning to their homeland, i.e. the town off the coast they were born in.
"But" is not disagreeing. I think the repeated offender for the author is the not acknowledging the makeover-ees feelings. But, that is how LGBT have decided to deal with the inner voices that invade from society. They are just that, not our own, they are the influence of society, and we can choose, we have to choose, to be influenced by someone, anyone else.
Karamo can't speak about being black when an Asian is speaking about being Asian, even though the Asian gay man was feeling alone. It's called relating bitches, and I'm done with people saying that is redirecting the conversation, it's extending the conversation. That's how we talk, the spotlight is shared, especially when someone's about to cry and doesn't want to be seen as crying, time to turn the spotlight.
The gay monk wasn't good enough, you should have invited the gay politician.
Yeah, causes I'm sure a politician has all the time in the world for a quick stint and cry. They picked a Japanese monk who travels to NY because they had a guest who travels to the West too. Did you want him to stop traveling back and forth? Did you want a pure, ethnic and cultural Japanese gay man who has no ties to the west to talk to this Western educated young man? Seriously?
This is just not how it works in Japan.
Being in a multi-cultural marriage between two rebels, discussions on facets of culture are plenty in my household. Culture should be respected enough to be considered but not held on a pedestal like we should never adjust or throw some things out. LGBT being quiet and private for instance. "Being seen" was Jonathan's advice, and a good one especially for a Japanese gay man that was called feminine since he was a kid. Some gay men can hide, but as Jonathan said, he couldn't hide what he was, he couldn't hide this. So fuck it. Don't hide. It's actually more dangerous for a feminine man to come off as anxious rather than gay and proud. It makes you more of a target if they think you won't fight back. Proud means, Imma throw hands too, bitch.
This is also from the civil rights playbook going back to Black America: never hold a protest or a fight without the cameras, without being seen. LGBT have found the more seen they are, in media, in the streets, the better off we are. When LGBT Americans were being "private" about our lifestyles, we died, a la 1980s. They won't care if you start dying off if they never saw you to begin with.
And hence why I think the author's real anger is from these 5 being seen dancing flamboyantly in Shibuya, in Harajuku, afforded the privilege of doing this safely because of their tourist status, cameras and very low violence rate in Tokyo, loud and obnoxiously. Honestly, they wouldn't have been invited or nominated if they didn't want that brash American-ness coming into their home, just for a taste, at least.
Here's my real anger, my own jealousy: Japan's queer community currently does not have marriage or adoption rights. US does, so we have progressed further. But we are also not that many years from being tied to cow fences with barbed wire, beaten with baseball bats and left for dead overnight. If things are so bad over there, maybe take a few pages from the civil right playbook we took so much time to perfect and produced by the Black Americans who fought first. But so far, I only hear loss of jobs and marriages, which we still have here too. Stop trying to divide us, we are one community, LGBT around the world and we are here to try to help. Take it or leave it, it's not like we're going to go organize your own Pride parade for you.
Rant over? I guess. Is this important enough to be put in the google results along with his. Hell no, anyone with half a mind can see he's reaching more than half the time. And any argument about: this wasn't covered! There are a shit ton of conversations that are not covered in the 45 min they have. They are not a civil rights show, it's a makeover show, doing their best in that direction anyway. Know what it is.
Next blog post, what research I would guess was happening behind the scenes for each of the 5? I'm pretty sure I saw Jonathan doing Japanese style makeup there...

MARE'S RECAPS ~ THE MANDALORIAN: CHAPTER 9 "THE MARSHALL"
Oh wow! It's been a while since I've done something like this. Last year, I caught up with season 1 about 2 days before the finale, so I didn't have the opportunity to write reviews/recaps. This season, though, I'm going to 😀 so here it is the first one!
For the folks that haven't seen the premiere and don't want spoilers, scroll past this, fast and furious, because it's full of them. If you want to blacklist tags to avoid spoilers from me, I suggest that you add #mando spoilers, #the mandalorian season 2 spoilers, and #mare's mando recaps to the list.
I've seen the episode a few times (yeah, I'm that obsessed with the show) so some of my reactions are more visceral than others since I was too excited the few first times I watched it and I missed a lot of details (another reason to rewatch the episode more than once). This recap is loooooong, which is an indication of how amazing it was.
So this my final warning to those avoiding spoilers. Stop reading, right now. The rest of you… enjoy and let me know if you share some of my opinions. I'm always open to chat 😊
Chapter 9 ~ The Marshall
So it begins! It's so exciting!
I knew that Mando and baby Yoda walking in the street at night was going to be the opening scene. I started to think about it after watching the second trailer, and I'm glad that I was right.
It turns out that the red-eyed creatures were not jawas as I saw some people saying.
Baby Yoda was not happy with the little excursion to the fighting arena. Not walking on the streets nor inside watching the fight. I still laughed when he locked himself up in the pram, even if I've watched the trailer like a gazillion times by now and I knew he was going to do it.
And talking about the baby, he's getting more vocal I think. He's making a few new noises, whimpering more, which I'm not sure if it's a good or bad thing. That he complains more means that he feels safe with his buir and isn't afraid of retaliation for it as he probably was with others in the past and the reason he didn't cry much in season 1. But it breaks my heart that he is stressed. And that child is anxious, I can tell you that much.
The fight with Gor Koresh's thugs was awesome! The gamorrean flying to squash Mando and failing had me cracking up. And omg! Din'd moves! Using his helmet as a weapon and throwing his vibroblade. And leaving Gor Koresh to be eaten! Man of his word, he didn't kill the guy.
On a side note, I would've never guessed it was John Leguizamo who gave voice to Koresh until I saw the credits. Of all the actors who could play the part, I never thought of him.
Umm, I'm curious about the time Mando has spent in Tatooine, which according to him it's been a lot and it makes sense since he knows so much about the Tuskens, their language and culture. I'm guessing he spent a while among them. He had to learn all that somehow.
When I speculated that Mando was going back to Tatooine after watching the trailers, I said that I was going to riot if he didn't visit his favorite mechanic. Thankfully, I didn't need to worry. I loved Peli in episode 5 of season 1 and I loved her even more now remarking on Din's dislike of droids and trying to keep the baby for herself. Not to mention she complaining about not getting good help these days 🤣
And I ADORE the (improvised?) Birikad Din got for the baby. Of course, the baby is safer in the pram, right (guessing that's why he used it when he met Gor Koresh), but there's something sweet watching him carrying his son so close to him.
And I tell you, Mando has been spending credits lately in baby stuff. I mean, he got a new pram (which I initially thought it was the original that he had somehow retrieved from the garbage in Nevarro, but no, it's not the same, and neither it's the one that Kuiil made) and he also got the bag/birikad thing, which looks brand-new. I wonder what else he bought.
Watching the droids doing maintenance of the Razor Crest makes me think it's all for nothing, knowing that in a few episodes (it might be even in the next one) Mando is going to crash the ship. More than once perhaps.
😆 The baby still loves speed! I think riding on the speeder bike was the only moment that he truly enjoyed in this episode. Look at that happy face
When they arrived at Mos Pelgo and Din went into the cantina, leaving the baby outside, I was like: Din! That's not responsible. How can you leave your son out in the inclement sun, alone! Then baby Yoda peeked in and I went: never mind. I take back what I said.
Oooh. Cobb Vanth! I love him! For a moment, I thought it could actually be Boba but it seemed illogical and that's what Mr. Feloni and Mr. Favreau wanted us to think. I was correct.
My gawd! Din's shock when Vanth took the helmet off. I just knew he would freak out the moment Cobb asked for drinks and I said to drink they need to remove their helmets and Mando is going to lose it when this guy does. And the standoff! Was so good! "Take it off or I will" is going to become a quite popular phrase in fics from now on, not in the same context, but yeah…
The krayt dragon… oh shit! Or rather Dank farrik! We can't see Mando's face or expression but I can imagine which one was when he saw the dragon eating the bantha the first time.
Oh my goodness. The baby hiding in the pot! Too adorable!
I know every hardcore SW fan lost it watching Vanth modified speeder because is a callback to the Phantom Menace and Anakin but my first thought was: is he compensating for something? Sorry, I couldn't help it
The dog-lizard creatures were kinda scary at first but then became adorable. Almost as much as baby Yoda getting out of hiding
Baby Yoda doesn't like dog-lizards things. He looked afraid to be eaten I think. Poor little guy.
And look at that! Din showing such growth! To think he was the one incensing others in negotiation 😆 this is a total callback to the jawas in Arvala-7. And I gotta tell you, Din freaking loves his flamethrower. He doesn't waste the opportunity to use it.
The krayt dragon eating the Tusken raider instead of the bantha was quite of a plot twist 😆
When they were planning the attack on the dragon, Cobb Vanth's face when Din told him that the bones and pebbles were to scale, and then when he had volunteered the villagers to help… priceless!
I like the fact of banding together with others for a greater good, relying on others to accomplish something is going to continue being the theme of this season. It started last season but I think it's going to be stronger this time around along all of the episodes.
😳😲😳😲 this thing vomits acid?! What. The. FUCK?!!!
Cobb: I don't think it's dead
Mando: me neither
Me, at the same time as Din: yeah, nope it's not dead
Oh yeah! Teaming up with jetpacks!
When they showed the bantha with the remaining explosives my first thought was why didn't they use all those before?! That's why they didn't kill it!! Of course, it was just an excuse to grant Din a more grand win in the end, but you know, it's stupid not to use everything you have to kill the monster on the first try. Just saying
Wait, what? Din! What are you going to do? No! Taking care of the child is your responsibility, not Cobb Vanth's! I hate this plan of yours, Din Djarin!! Whichever it is!
Oh! Nice callback to the flaw on that jetpack. But makes me wonder, do all the rising Phoenixes have the same flaw? Cuz unless Din knows Boba in person and that it's his armor with that particular flaw, it means it's a common problem for all and I don't like it.
Get away, Din! Get away, Din!! FLY AWAY!! AAAAAAAHHHHHH! NOOOOOO!
There he is! Damn, Mando! Don't scare me like that! Altho, it was a nice move.
Okay, but now I want someone to explain something to me. If the dragon's acid melted people at contact before, how the hell is Din so whole? I mean, sure for argument' sake let's say his beskar armor provides some protection, but he's not entirely covered in it. His cape and undersuit seem just fine, albeit sticky. Where's the logic in that?
The tuskens getting the pearl reminded me of the jawas and the mudhorn's egg, chanting zukka, zukka (or however egg is spelled in Jawa).
That's quite a piece of meat. The baby is going to be happy eating off it for days🤣
😮😮😳😳 BOBA FETT!!!!! Yesssssss!!
Okay, I've seen other people's thoughts and some think that Boba was after Cobb Vanth because he had the armor, but I don't know. If that was true then why he hadn't gone to Mos Pelgo and got it? It seems to me that it's more likely that Boba is following Din somehow because it's the second time in as many Mando's visits to the planet that they sort of cross paths. Could they know each other? Have some score to settle? It's possible. Din has spent much time on Tatooine -his words, not mine- so it wouldn't be so out of consideration that they actually know each other. That if Mando knows Boba is (fake?) Mando, I don't know. Probably not, but who knows?
Extra thoughts
I gotta say that Ludwig Göransson is killing it with the score music! Oh. My. God! So so so so good! I could tell from the trailers that it was going to be awesome this season but it astounded me in chapter 9. Gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous! My favorite piece is when they're going to the dragon's cave to kill it. The orchestral sound of the already familiar music blew my mind!

ok so before i say this i want to be clear that im not judging anyone who enjoys these shows, nor am i saying the shows themselves are bad, these are just how i personally feel about them
i attempted to watch the last season (season 8) of Brooklyn 99 but i don't think i can manage it! i know it was very controversial to insert current events into the series (mostly the BLM and police brutality stuff, but also covid) and i feel like there was really no good way to go. it would be shitty to ignore the things happening irl, but its also super hard to write a funny cop show while also tackling those particular irl issues. rosa quitting just now bc of the police racism? and jake being like "its hard to not feel like you think I'm a bad guy for being a cop" and there's no real way to say YEAH, if you are a cop you are at the very least complicit! not to mention charles' behavior in the first episode and the reveal that holt and kevin separated (altho i looked it up and they do apparently get back together in episode 2, it was just another thing to dislike). I think it's great that the creators' tried to do the right thing, and i think they should be proud that they faced these really hard issues head on instead of pretending they don't exist, but it just....... doesn't work
after that, i wanted something else to watch, so i tried watching The Good Place. and i just couldn't get past how shitty of a person the main character was. like, she was learning i guess? and that's the point of the show? but i just could not stand her. plus, its mentioned and brushed off immediately, but it's possible she is taking up a space in the good place that someone else deserves and that just feels icky to me. AND, i hatehateHATE the idea of everyone not in the good place goes to the bad place, especially since very few people are allowed into the good place.
then i tried watching Schitt's Creek and, again, could not handle how the main characters acted. and again, that's the point, they are a spoiled rich family that lost basically everything, but idk i just couldn't get into it
then i tried watching bob's burgers and once again could not handle how much of an asshole the kids were, particularly louise and gene. like, I've seen funny clips from the show, but idk it just doesn't make me laugh as much as it makes me grimace, ykno? plus the autistic joke in the first episode, while kinda funny, also rubbed me the wrong way bc i know a lot of ppl see her as autistic so it just...felt off. i might try to watch more but I'm not sure...
#long post#just me rambling about tv shows#some negative opinions that you may disagree with but its not a personal attack on you so like. be cool.#not tagging the shows bc they would show up in the tags and that's rude#also shoot me an ask if they show up in the tags anyways bc its not my intention to put negativity into the tags#ill figure out how to fix it

So y'all know, I already have a jointed Lance Bass doll.
Two actually because the large puppet set I got at the turn of the century came with a variant Lance, in denim, and Chris then a few years ago I got a regular Lance and Chris at a junk store. The worst that has befallen any of them so far is some sticky hair which I wrapped in tissue before packing them for the move.
I'm debating doing a repaint on the standard set altho they are supposed to look plastic and doll like. The variants are fine as they are with sweet faces.
No idea how or why I ended up with two variants and I've seen online pics of Joey and I think Justin with similar faces that don't quite resemble them. The regular set has the same faces as the tiny set of puppets which I also have.
I'm also missing Bill and Ted and all the dolls that are still in storage because altho we're moved in we're still trying to arrange things, sometimes you have to live in a space for awhile to get its vibes and how you'll be using it, play GTFO with all the junk and crap the Life Ruiner left behind, as well as deal with real life, chronic health prombles, and shit like doing someone a favor ends up spending most of the day in the car.
We combined our doings with their doings and its the person who took the cats, Marshmallow is assumed to have moved away with neighbors and Nelly doesn't care, so it was okay. Did put our foot down with driving out of our way to pick up something for them.
The last time we went out of our way for someone went from what was supposed to be just a couple of weeks at most to get pass a too expensive to stay in a hotel holiday period to ~takes a Repressitall~ a period in my life that is now behind me and I got to see the outside of the meteor crater and they got to keep the Life Ruiner. Altho we...
It's kicking in now.
something something Gates McFadden has a podcast and the first episodes I'm going to listen to are her talking with Wil Wheaton.
Made some decent progress on a making up the pattern as I was going yarn thing only to try it on and it doesn't fit right and had to frog quite a few inches but that's how it goes.
For the love of everything learn how to make foundationless stitches, it will save your sanity.
Wanting to get going a bit in the room, careful measured steps because of the anemia, but got to grocery shop and real life.
Saw the Crocoduel episode of Ladybug, yay for Julika, but it's not a hard hitter like Wishmaker. Of course Wishmaker drops the ball in the reveal department, it would have made a better movie or two parter than perhaps some of the other stories, but then again that's what fan fiction is for bugaboo.
Trying to literally fond the time to do some real writing. Did jot down then threw away some things at the laundromat.
I know what I mean that Steve is to Flat Tire what Scott is to Heavenly Bank Account. Both do a great job with Long Cool Woman but there's a moment in Heavenly Bank Account where the other guys realize holy fuck Scott is going to take them to levels Steve wasn't going to be able to. And Steve probably knew it. Sometimes people do.
