I wholeheartedly believe anyone in your position would have turned bitter forever. Turning to anger is one of the most tempting human vices. You could have given in; You didn't.

Those spoken words cause Khan to inhale without him even being able to stop the action from happening; Nostrils flare as his lungs are filled, accompanied by blue eyes flicking away, falling seconds later, glancing at the drink that's being held by slender fingers, curled around the cool glass.

A swallow follows, a brief purse of full lips that display a wave of emotion crashing through a sturdy frame; Khan did give in, after all, and he had been bitter for almost all the time ever since Marcus had awoken him, forced a superior mind and loyal heart to take what had been dished out to him. Two of his family have died, killed by a pair of wrinkly fingers and a wicked smirk - and when Khan had tried to flee, been discovered, there was no doubt existing within him that the Admiral had followed up by killing all the remaining ones of what he holds most dear.

Khan knows, however, that the younger man is speaking about now, about everything that had happened after him surrendering on Kronos; Instead of turning against those people on board of the Enterprise, Khan had allowed himself to put some sort of trust into this very peculiar and yet so capable Captain. They had infiltrated the Vengeance all by themselves, with the help of that Chief Engineer, taken control of the vessel and... well.

Khan could have handled all of it much differently, after all: Taken out both Kirk and Scotty, made sure the Admiral's daughter wouldn't intervene, killed Marcus with his own hands and then demanded his crew back - the seventy-two torpedoes, sitting within the belly of the Enterprise. Once done, he could have ended those people's lives and then made his way out into the vastness of space---

---He did not. He'd forced himself to not act out on his ongoing urges, and this might have saved his life here - as well as the lives of his sleeping family, currently resting back on Earth, waiting for their own former Captain to pass this test the Federation has allowed him to go through. Perhaps, depending on how well Khan will do, his people will get a second chance, allowed to be alive - on a different planet, perhaps, where they can build their own society, make their own rules...?

All of this is far in the future, out of grasp for now; Khan pushes those thoughts to the side, takes another breath before bringing the glass back up to his lips, followed by a slow-blink.

---The brief urge to comment on Jim's words is rising, the need to remind him of the fact that he did give in, in fact, and that this is why the blond had lost that one father-figure he'd felt so close to... But no, Khan does not. He's sure that Kirk knows, will never forget about that painful moment in his life, and perhaps Khan just needs to take his words for once, let them stew a little. Maybe it's an additional offering of peace, in a way, especially since there's more words following - a possible exchange of people decades from now, thinking about the Enterprise and that man who has lived for centuries...

Oh, part of Khan wishes that all of this will be the case, that he can be remembered as a man who did precisely that: Turned his life around after having lashed out before. Ruled over earth, killed people, but then decided to do good... such things. Maybe, just maybe, things will be okay...

...A smirk replaces that previous purse of full lips, and the act even reaches his eyes when that tease follows; Khan hums out a low noise, takes another sip, then forces himself to relax as he looks back at that man who has turned into what he would consider a... friend, perhaps.

A friend. That's... impressive to think about. Who would've thought that they would do this - sit together, have a drink?

"---I have to.", is the reply given, and Khan is very much exaggerating his own behavior here, in return to the younger Captain's previous teasing; He chuckles, just for a fraction of a second, then exhales a breath that has been stuck inside his chest for a long while. "...And I certainly hope to be able to do it. As we have established, after all, we're both expecting each other to be remembered on a positive note, am I right?"

And with that, Khan lifts his own drink and holds it toward the other, offering to clink their glasses together - to seal the deal, perhaps.

how  much  his  opinion  changed  on  the  man  accompanying  him  is  nothing  short  of  miraculous.       after  the  trial,       Jim  had  no  expectations  whatsoever  that  they  would  become  good  friends,       let  alone  have  conversations  beyond  what  their  respective  jobs  demanded  or  a  simple  good  morning  that  he  throws  to  every  crew  member  on  his  ship.       the  weight  of  their  past  would  be  too  much  to  bear       &       that  they  would  drift  apart.

that  was  it       ;       that  was  the  expectation.       &       yet  reality  continues  to  blossom  differently.       truthfully,       Kirk  never  thought  he’d  feel  comfortable  listening  to  him  this  long,       not  feel  a  tinge  of  regret  or  the  ghosts  of  his  past  sticking  their  heads  out  from  the  shadows  of  his  mind  to  remind  him  of  what  had  happened,       of  what  he  could  never  change.

instead,       he  is       WILLING,       even  excited,       to  listen.       he  doesn’t  compliment  Khan  as  often  as  he  should  be  complimented.       however,       he’s  one  of  the  most  efficient  officers  he’s  ever  worked  with,       &       given  the  progress  they’ve  made,       who  knows  what  will  happen  later       ?      

his  comment  about  keeping  his  name  is  what  he  expected  of  him.       at  least,       THAT       was  one  thing  that  didn’t  deviate  from  his  guess.       he  can  see  it  in  his  calm  blue  eyes,       a  kind  of  spite  that  would  also  surround  his  irises  if  he  had  a  similar  story.      

indeed,       almost  everyone  gets  handed  shitty  cards  to  play  the  game  of  life  with,       but  they  make  do.      

they  find  a  way.       &       their  names  are  more  than  what  they  serve.       he  cannot  physically  stop  himself  from  gluing  his  gaze  onto  his  profile       ;       his  lips  are  slightly  parted  as  he  takes  in  the  subtle  rain  of  compliments.       so  this  is  what  he  thinks  of  him       :       special,       distinct.

if  anyone  understands  the  frustration  of  feeling  like  he  will  never  be  able  to  make  up  for  his  mistakes,       it  would  be  Jim.       while  it’s  true  that  captain  Pike  will  have  a  special  place  in  his  heart,       he’s  not  the  only  person  he’s  lost.      

his  crew  suffered  losses  before       &       he,       to  this  day,       thinks  the  burden  is       HIS       to  carry.       all  he  can  do  is  go  forward  to  honor  them.       all  Khan  does  is  honor  his  promise  to  the  captain  of  the  Enterprise       &       hope  for  a  semblance  of  peace.

I feel like he’s more lanky than what usually perceived. he still has really built shoulders and is has a lot of muscles but he’s just a lot longer lmao

He has really long arms and he looks taller than what he actually is

But he skips leg day everyone so often so that’s way he wears baggy pants :p

He has a lot of acne on his forehead due to his hair and mask

Isn’t really hairy? Like the hair on his arms and legs is really light and you can’t really see it.

I doubt he grows hair on his chest too, if he does he shaves it

Can’t grow a beard either, it comes out in patchy.

Hair on his armpits tho-

the last sentinel | set in an era where mutants dont exist as we know them, charles grew up as a hypertelepath, the only gifted soul he knew, but he's heard the stories of sentinels and guides. a long-extinct human splinter, homo superior, who held immense gifts capable of destroying whole cities, drawn together by the guidelink which kept them both stable. charles feels it across the world, when a young man in haifa moves metal for the first time and nearly brings the hospital down. (1950s redux) charles and erik go to white castle MIT | erik's the new freshman who immediately joins the mutant student union (mutatis mutandis), and starts stirring up charles's nice integrationist life with his evilbad separatist politics, there's probably a frat involved, lots of snark and debating mutant rights and maybe set against the backdrop of escalating baseline-mutant violence (modern) stranded | charles is working for the CIA and finds himself in the middle of the negev after anti-mutant thugs slap suppressors on him, beat him and leave him for dead. erik lehnsherr is a known separatist sympathizer, and a minor target of the CIA's operation. up until now he's been elusive but charles wakes to discover none other than lehnsherr as his nursemaid (modern) darkverse | i would really love to play against a darker (not insane or sadistic, more toppy as shit and hella mind controlly?) charles paired with some kind of expansive world (tHe CiA aGaIn? building school? war, violence, something something) beach-divorce didn't happen because charles forced erik to stand down, and now they're dealing with the fallout. both of these characters would be darker versions of themselves, probably dealing with stockholm/lima, d/s themes, etc etc. BUT WITH PLOT (XMFC divergence) cornfields | [spock] is a vulcan doing his first ever solar charting mission behind venus in sol when his shuttle malfunctions and he crash-lands on the only M-class planet available: the 2019, pre-warp earth. he literally crashes into jim's corn field in iowa. he does not speak english and the universal translator doesn't work. jim ends up helping him escape government agents and more shenanigans and he's an alien oh g-d (modern)

big star trek rant

with kirk you have his establishing character moment in tos being him playing chess with (and winning against and also flirting with) spock

in aos his esablishing character moment is him as a teenager driving off a cliff and barely surviving

and i think that really is sort of an easy way to sum up the differences between the two characters and its not that i think aos kirk is completely off, i guess

but its a shallow understanding of the character, its like someone looked at him only in the moments he was in peril

and i understand also that kirk has a different backstory in aos, but im not particularly fond of the implication that not having a father in his life would be enough reason for him to act the way he does in the movies

it also still inexcusable that they made him into a womanizer, still dont appreciate that one

kirk is a man, who was explored in character many times in tos, hes compassionate, sturdy, responsible, and of course at times, desperate and ruthless. the enterprise is his ship, his mission, and he earned his place on the ship. even if we didnt see him do it personally, we know this, we can tell even just from the way he carries himself, the way the crew responds to him

in the movies, we see him get his ship, not becuase his is responsible, or trustworthy, but becuase of circumstance.

aos kirk is an asshole, not to say tos kirk isnt also an asshole, but its not the same, kirk is an asshole in that he will do anything to protect his ship, but he is still a likable

 kirk is the most slytherin character, thats the best way i can describe it. and aos got that much, but they got it so wrong

anyway i cant deal with anymore kirk meta, like im so bad at meta i can barely understand characters, so:

in aos uhura’s establishing character moment is literally her undressed in her dorm room, which she then has to shove kirk out of

the first time we see uhura in tos, shes on the bridge at her sation as communications officer

i absolutely hate the way women are treated in aos

like its obvious that tos is sexist, and its not something i feel comfortable excusing, but it was still so important in its time

just. the supposed empowerment of the women characters in aos feels so cheap when theyre still treated like this, carol marcus, chapel being reduced to a mention, only as someone kirk dated at that. all of it, even amanda’s death.

(we got to see spock emotionally venerable in tos plently of times, never, i dont remeber anyway, using the death of a woman to leverage that, dont get me started on spock, what weak soup they tried to serve us. and the fact that when they decided he should emote it was in anger, let a male character be soft and sad if your going to force us to swallow the death of a woman for his developement)

this is a huge reason i dont like aos, it feels like it took the heart and soul out of star trek, out of what it meant to so many people. star trek has always been a push for social change, never ever perfect, but a hope for better, tos was historical, it literally pulled so many firsts.

discovery got this right, as imperfect as it is it still has that soul, its trying for better

aos could have been so much, and yeah, its pretty and it has a nice cast but it feels empty and hollow when u put it up against what star trek was, aos just wanted to be another sci-fi movie

i havent watched all of tos recently and i sure as hell havent watched aos recently but i still think about it
