Starting a RP blog 101

1. Setting it up

So, you want to make an RP blog... Well, you've come to the right place!

To start off, you need to decide between opening up a side blog or making an entirely new account! If you make a side blog, you have complete and quick access to both your main account and other side blogs with a click of your finger, but you won't be able to send asks or like posts from your RP account. Instead, you would like things with your main account and send anon asks with a sign-off ( i.e. - @respect-the-hyphen ). As for a different account, you get access to both of those things, but it would take longer for you to switch between your main and RP. Personally, I made a side blog since I run many, many blogs and would like to quickly sift between all of them. This is entirely up to you, though!

Now, let's talk about setting the stage for your RP escapades. Your username should reflect the essence of your character or the theme of your RP universe. I personally chose respect-the-hyphen because I adore how pressed comic Peter gets over this. Your title should also reflect your blog, and you description can be anything from literally nothing to a long introduction. Your profile picture and banner should be eye-catching and give visitors a taste of what to expect from your RP. Think of them as the opening credits to your RP story.

As for your inquiry about choosing someone not taken, don't worry about that. No one cares if you become someone already taken; there's always room for interpretation and creativity. Just be yourself and have fun exploring the character's personality!

2. Getting out there

When you're ready to dive into RPing, consider creating an introduction post. This can include a brief bio of your character, their motivations, and what kind of interactions you're looking for. It's a great way to signal to other RPers that you're open for business! This is your chance to showcase your creativity and set the stage for epic storytelling.

After that, start interacting with other RPers by liking, reblogging, and commenting on their posts. Plus, make sure to add a few posts of your own into your arsenal. I set up a queue to post twice a day at prime time. When you start getting asks, I recommend answering a few every day or so and sticking them into queue so you have content for a while if you get busy. Queues are very, very useful

I promise it'll go alright. There are no rules for RPing. Just be creative and be you. Headcanons, original characters, and more are all welcome.

Remember, RPing is all about collaboration and storytelling. Have fun exploring your character's personality, engaging in interactions with other characters, and building memorable storylines. And most importantly, don't be afraid to be yourself and let your creativity shine!

i'm never one to complain about cliques and stuff like that bc most of the time people are just Wrong but in muse it's the first time i've seen it as a glaring issue // tbh everytime I’ve been in places where people complain about “ cliques “ it’s just directed to people who they happen to see actually active in the community groupchats and 90% the muns and muses don’t know one another outside of it 😭 or it’ll be people who just had a matching username? or a common meme or something like demure. It’s not from actually outcasting anyone or anything like that? when you guys do this you make people scared to interact in public group chats - - for worry or being labeled incorrectly and it kills the vibe honestly

The point of a directory is to have a community yet when people participate in community activity they get called a clique… just food for thought … like think it over ?

The continent of Rhakhan was once a peaceful land, in which magic was merely a part of nature that was celebrated by its inhabitants. At one point, people in the Kingdom of Azbeah began to explore technology as a means to study the world around them. Fearful of these inventions, and believing them to take magic and strip it of its wild and beautiful qualities, the Kingdom retaliated with violence. This conflict led to a division in the world and subsecuently a war, which in turn led to a specific battle that unleashed chaos unlike any ever seen before.

The clash of magic and high tech created instability within the world. The Convergence was built around it, as people from many different worlds began to be forcefully brought into Rhakhan through these rogue portals. Returning home is impossible as far as everyone is aware, and the terrible living conditions of the Convergent City make it so that many of these new arrivals prefer to escape to the neighboring factions instead.

These rules are kept short and simple for ease of reading. To see a more detailed document with these rules, check: this link. If something written below feels vague, it’s because it’s explained more thoughroughly in the document.

This server is 18+ only, non-negotiable. 

Follow our trigger list and mark NSFW, NSFL and/or triggering content with spoilers. Only speak about topics related to these triggers in our designated trigger material channel.

The use of tupperbot is mandatory to roleplay in this server. If you don't know how to use it, fret not. We have a tutorial in our FAQ channel, it's really quite easy!

Communication is key. We cannot stress this enough. Talk to your partners and come to agreements about how scenes should go, or if you'd rather compromise to make certain things work. OOC drama related to scenes will not be tolerated.

Respect is a feature, not a bug. No slurs, racist comments, sexism, homophobia, ect. We're not tolerating that here.

Don’t change the titles of, or mess with, the threads of other people.

This server is OC inclusive. 

Character limits per fandom or general number-of do not exist (within reason)

We don't believe in limiting the power of a muse. 

We do NOT allow roleplay as people from real life who are famous. 

We do NOT allow troll characters to be apped in the servers.

While we encourage player addition to the world and lore, we reserve the right to deny any requests done if we feel they would not work for the server.

If you are interested in joining our group, we require you to send us an application. You can do this either by sending it to our inbox (not the askbox, the DMs) OR by joining the server and submitting the application into the “application submission” channel (which is arguably the quicker option)!

Filling out the template given (muses/fandoms, characters, mun’s age, discord username, ect.)

Provide one or more roleplay samples for any character you are interested in playing. These do not have to be written on the spot, simply giving us an rp sample of any scene you’ve done recently can suffice.

🧡 Mun is 21, NB, uses she/he/they, and goes by Kirby, Who, and Briar. This is a mobile sideblog run by @whats-a-clever-username. My other roleplay blogs are @e-l-c-kingor and @who-is-muses.

🤎 I don’t care much for extensive plotting, rather preferring a basic idea for the beginning and going from there.

💚 As far as my style of formatting goes, I write how I would a story- both for comfort and keeping the theme, sometimes with actions and sometimes without- and intermittently use icons outside of memes. That being said, I have no problem if my partner uses them, or formats considerably different from me, so long as I can read their reply.

🧡 I'm 18+ and mutuals only (asks and ask memes open to non mutuals), and a bit of a stickler for literacy. Not multiple page long replies, of course- brevity can be used just as well in some scenarios- but I lose interest in poorly written one liners quickly. Spelling and grammer aren’t too much of an issue for me- I make my own fair share of typos and I’m usually good at filling in the blanks or making mental corrections- but again, it can become frustrating if my partner doesn’t seem to be making an effort.

🤎 I’m relatively experienced in RPing (~7 years), but I haven’t been doing “serious” roleplay on Tumblr for long (less than a year.) I’m learning as I go, and I welcome any feedback or tips, but I’m also prone to doing things my own way. This blog is for fun, after all.

💚 I'm still somewhat shy about smut threads, and as such will be selective about who I do them with. That being said, dirty jokes and asks about such topics that aren't too graphic or invasive are fine, as are fade to blacks (I'll mention whether I'd like to move on to the smut or not.) I'm fine with sexual headcanons and will post some (along with related memes) every now and again. All will be tagged suggestive or nsfvv depending. Because of this, I'd prefer anyone following and interacting with me to be over 18.

🧡 Duplicates, OCs, and AUs/different universes are welcomed! I think it’s to be expected, given this is my personal version of Scarecrow (my main verse affectionately referred to as either Cleververse or Earth-2860.) Subsequently, other DC characters will be regarded as separate Earth’s (i.e. Earth-3 Riddler versus Earth-1, etc.) Additionally, while I do have Jon already with my version of Bookworm in my main verse, I am 100% willing to fudge the timeline for a different ship with our muses, and I definitely multi-ship. Feel free to hit me up and we can discuss!

🤎 Please refrain from godmodding. I know it’s sometimes necessary to briefly take control of another’s character (in the sense of anticipating their movements, timeskips, or their being somehow unconscious), but try not to be too controlling.

💚 Always feel free to contact me OOC. Communication is important. It may take me a while to respond, and I may forget- which goes for threads as well- but I always try to. Granted I can be a little awkward and shy, but I don’t mean to come across rude.

🧡 That being said, I don’t mind and even appreciate a reminder every now and again if I haven’t replied to a thread in a while, but please don’t pester me incessantly about it.

🤎 As with any Batman rogue no matter how prone to levity, there will be dark themes- not constantly, but certainly on occasion. I’ll do my best to tag appropriately, but don’t be afraid to give me a gentle heads up in the event I overlook something. I can say upfront that needles, religious (mainly Christian) themes, demons, violence/murder, drugs, alcohol, smoking, death, past child abuse, psychological abuse, manipulation, physical/mental torture, and blood/gore will be common.

💚 I hope this goes without saying, but Jon’s thoughts and opinions are not indicative of my own. If he’s being a horrendous, cruel bastard, that doesn’t necessarily mean I hate your character, etc.

🧡 As of the present, I will not be taking any m!as unless I reblog a meme, and I might veto some of the given options for my own comfort.

🤎 Though he may acknowledge time based events like birthdays, holidays, and anniversaries, Jon exists in a purposefully vague point in time because, frankly, I’m horrible at timelines. I’m always willing to do threads that take place in the past or future, or even seperate timelines, but outside of those Jon will always be 38 regardless of what time has passed.

💚 I don’t mind if you want to torment or attack Jon- physically, mentally, etc.- but I ask that it not be an all the time thing. Angst is lovely, but it becomes draining when it’s the only thing I do.

🧡 I'm totally fine with non roleplay blogs sending in questions and reblogging most things from me (headcanons, aesthetic, etc.), but I do ask that answers, threads, and other IC posts not be reblogged. Just a pet peeve. Additionally, I don't mind if you want to reblog a meme from me, but I do subscribe to reblog karma (sending in a meme that you're reblogging.)

This blog tags for common, major triggers, but it is not for those easily triggered or particularly sensitive. By proceeding, you take responsibility for yourself...like a mature adult. I expect you to utilize blacklist, unfollow, and block. Tag format is simple, it is literally just the word in most cases, with “cw” and “tw” added to particularly common things. If you are going to vent, leave out usernames. This isn’t a callout or burnbook blog. It’s fine to state characters and fandoms, but if this becomes a problem, it’ll have to change. I don’t want this becoming a salt blog for one or two fandoms I very likely can’t even stand. Practice the fine art of alluding to things, its good experience for your writing! Besides, RPC problems are RPC problems, I promise. It might feel like it’s just your fandom, but there is something relatable in all corners.

I will not overly police comments. Keep the slurs and shit out of it, though. If there is an issue going on pertaining to a serious instance of hate speech, or behavior I, personally, deem as too inappropriate and/or immature to be taking place on my post, I will step in. Otherwise, I expect everyone to be adults in the comments and reblogs too. If you want to argue with each other, that’s your business. If you want to argue with me, I’m not sorry in advance.

Addition to the above: this is not a blog in which it will be tolerated that commentators or those submitting with the URLS are targeted for callouts, shaming, or other instances of bullying. I’m alright with either she/her or he/him, they/them is also fine. Apparently, that was big enough clue-in for the poor reading comp crowd, so while I feel it is not of importance, I’m nonbinary, yes.

Late 30′s, chronically ill but still working adult with neurodivergence. I’m both busy and Busy, and always sick. This limits my brain power and ability to be here. I have an active RP blog that I won’t be sharing to keep responsible distance. That is always going to be my priority, it is my primary hobby.

Please, don’t tumblr message me totally random things if we don’t have that kind of relationship! I’m too ill and busy, and it really fucks my nerves to have a bunch of messages/have to suddenly interact socially with people. Don’t do it. Use my inbox, use the submit, comment on posts. I only do written RP, don’t expect me to understand much of anything from tabletop. I’ve RPed for the last 23 years consistently, on every platform from AOL chats to forums to messengers and here. I also don’t do RP in discord, so I’m sorry, but I can’t advise you much on anything with a word count, except to stop it for serious RP. Other than that, I promise you that I’ve seen the trends, the drama, the fandoms. I can give a lot of advice and perspective on a wide range of topics, situations, and characters! When I don’t have a clue at all, I’ll try to do enough research to give you an answer.

Do I come off as a horrible, strict asshole? I do! I’m not going to say that I am just a shy bean who is more scared of you than you are me. I’m not. I’m honestly feral, but have common decency, compassion, and sense. All of which are lacking in the general RPC. So, if you can inbox/common/otherwise interact with anyone else on this site, you can totally handle me!
