With all this Bychance drama going on in the Byler tag lately what’s your honest opinion on Bychance?

I think it's utterly harmless.

It's a crack ship that's fun to engage with. It has 0 chances of being canon, but I'm kind of annoyed with some of the discourse around it recently. For one, crack ships are a bedrock of fandom. It's okay to dislike one, but I'd just mute or scroll at that point.

Secondly, I really resent this notion that Will Byers is only capable of loving or being loved by Mike Wheeler. That's just so dehumanizing. What, Mike can have a girlfriend and continuously be homophobic and hurtful to Will, and Will is just supposed to wait around on his hands and knees for Mike to figure himself out?

Will is deserving of love and affection. He doesn't deserve to grovel after someone. Canonically, I really want Byler endgame to be a thing. I want Will to get his happy ending and Mike to figure his shit out and resolve it. I think it's the logical conclusion of what has been written.

But outside of the canon narrative, I not only enjoy Will being shipped with other male characters his age, I actively support and encourage it. I love fics where Will figures himself out and finds a way to internal happiness on his own, and only gets with Mike later, after he has figured himself out and earns his way back into Will's affections.

Sometimes, I think some people are more interested in Mike ending up happy than they are about Will, and I think discourse around shipping Will with other characters is what reveals that. Why can't he be attracted to other people? Why can't he enjoy their affections and want to date them? Why does he have to constantly wait around for Mike and get hurt over and over and over again, just so he can pet Mike's hair and babygirl him when Mike finally decides he wants something? Hasn't he been through enough pain? And no one was ever around to defend him, or pet his hair, or tell him everything was going to be okay. They abandoned him again and again.

So, at least in the realm of fandom—fan art and fan fics—let Will stans enjoy imagining him happy. We all want him with Mike canonically and in the end because we know that will make him happy; but we also know that it's not harmful for him to explore his sexuality and find other small flames and loves along the way.

I discounted the gods that took out the black mass because we don't know enough about how they did what they did. Is their ability to destroy the mass inherent in their weapons, or is it from them and channeled through the weapons? If the gods are the source of the power, then even if Bill stole their weapons, it wouldn't help him against Aku.

(And I tend to think Bill isn't on the power level of a ~*GOD*~ god, but that's honestly speculation. All we know for certain is that in a competition against Time Baby, Bill's 1 win, 1 loss; and as far as we see he never tries to take on the Axolotl. We don't know how how any of them measure up against "traditional" human gods like Odin or Rama.)

I feel like "Bill threatens the multiverse, Aku threatens Earth" is a better reflection of their ambitions than their abilities. Bill threatens the multiverse because he happens to live in a nexus between universes where he's capable of peeking into different universes and bullying/manipulating people—and because he wants to do that. But from that nexus his influence is limited to what he can accomplish with charisma and possession (and we don't know how high-tier an entity he can mind control. We know he can't mind control Time Baby).

Within the Nightmare Realm... even with his ability to alter reality, it's possible for the cops to arrest him while he's drunk. And once he's arrested, he can't break out until the Henchmaniacs come for him.

My personal belief is that it's the unique conditions he set up for Weirdmageddon that somehow gave Bill nigh-omnipotence within Gravity Falls; within the Nightmare Realm, while powerful, perhaps god-tier powerful, he's not omnipotent. (He's not powerful enough to just open a portal by himself.)

I tend to think that when Bill boasts about what he can do, he's inclined to brag about the most extreme, outer limits of his capabilities when everything lines up perfectly and he gets lucky as hell.

Like, he claims he's eaten gods, as if that means he's more powerful than gods—but also Ford's said that one time he accidentally ate a planet thinking it was a sandwich, so who knows what kind of circumstances let Bill eat a god? So when Bill makes big claims we can't really tell how much we've actually learned about his potential without the full context.

Aku, on the other hand—honestly I think he's a threat to only Earth because he only wants to be a threat to Earth. When the dogs talk about Earth's history, they describe Aku trying to get the rest of the galaxy's riches by opening Earth's borders and waiting for them to come in—rather than going out to conquer other places. He seems like he spends 99% of his time in his fortress. Dude's a total homebody. We have no idea how far he could spread his influence if he wanted to spread his influence. All we really know about his upper limit of power is that, whatever it is, it doesn't include the power to remotely pop Jack's head like a grape. or beat up elemental guardians lmao.

So we can't compare their power based on their areas of influence.

Using it to compare their drive is valid though. You're right, Bill's ambitious and tenacious and stubborn as hell and Aku goes "ah, whatever, I'm going to bed and hoping my foe dies while I'm asleep." I voted Aku as the winner on the assumption that this is a scenario where they have to fight until one of them is rendered incapable of continuing to fight. But if there's a "you can run home like a little bitch but it means you lose" option, then as soon as Bill gets sufficiently annoying, Aku's going "¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'm a little bitch, byeee"

The Pitt (TV) tag on this website is a fucking nightmare and it is painfully obvious to me that a lot of the people arguing about Santos versus Langdon have,

a) not worked in emergency medicine and

b) never had to deal with a situation like that with their coworkers

There is very much a hierarchy in emergency medicine. If you are new you gotta respect the hierarchy. Now contrast the hierarchy with someone who has been at your agency for longer than you, who everyone else knows and you barely know and they do something that needs to be reported to higher ups.

Now you're thinking, well fuck it's my word against theirs. They've been at this for much longer than me. Who would believe me, I'm brand new here. What if I report this person and I am taken seriously and they get kicked out and everyone finds out and hates me because I got someone they liked kicked off. What if I report this and this person retaliates against me and I get kicked off and potentially blacklisted?

Want to guess how long it took me to report what happened? Close to TWO MONTHS. And before this I had had concerns about this person for three months because of things they said/done. Other things that probably would have been enough to report on their own. Two months. That's how terrified I was because I'm new and this person isn't. And this wasn't a situation where maybe it could have been that person or maybe it wasn't. No this was cut and dry they did something they shouldn't be doing inside our ambulance (albeit we were not on shift at the time, so there wasn't any risk to patients).

I have a lot of sympathy for Santos because I am dealing with a situation which is similar to hers right now, I know what is it is like to have a superior who is rude to you (she did kind of have it coming though). I have a lot of sympathy for Langdon because I know how debilitating chronic pain is, I know what it is like to have to try and deal with people like Santos who think they know everything and are rude. (The person in my situation acts a lot like Santos lmao. It annoys me to no end.)

Can we just look critically at what is happening in this show? Both characters have their issues that both need addressing, but the season is only 2/3 of the way done. Have a look past your blind hatred/adoration of each character and see what the show is actually trying to tell us. Sure these are fictional characters but this stuff happens all the time in real life. So just like... think about that a little.

FYI, it majorly ticks people off if you use the Hal Jordan/ Green Lantern tags when the post is actually about Batman/ Superbat/ the Batfam and Hal/ another Lantern is simply a side character/ plot device.

It's a numbers thing: the Batman tag has 1.8 Million followers vs Green Lantern with less than 6500. By tagging Hal literally every time he's mentioned, people are making it hard to actually find content about Hal in his own tag.

And no, you can't just block people either, because it's always a different person! It's not an issue with any single person. No one would bat an eye about 1 in 100 or even 1 in 50 batposts. But they make up a very significant chunk of the tagged content.

It's forcing people to play the world's most annoying game of whack-a-mole. (And I don't even want to play it, because I actually like Batman, especially your stuff. Just.. not when I'm searching for Hal content lmao.)

I obviously can't force you and other people to change the way you tag. But I can beg you to consider it. So here I am.

Okay, I'm going to say this as gently as possible because I keep getting asks like these and I don't really think we're on the same page. There are a few points I want to get out of the way before I talk about tagging itself.

You are frustrated because there is a lack of Hal Jordan content

You are frustrated because there is a lack of high quality Hal Jordan content

You are frustrated because Hal Jordan content is not as popular as Batman content

Tag "etiquette" is a rapidly evolving and nebulous thing, and I don't think it's as straightforward as you and other tag purists make it out to be. There are some core components more people agree on - tagging hate in a different tag, for example - but beyond that?

You cannot control what other people tag, like you suggest. And I want to suggest to you, that asking people to not tag a character when they are making a post about them/involving them is a well-intentioned but impossible request.

Here's why: You mention that you don't enjoy finding posts where Hal Jordan is a "side character" or "plot device." The problem is, if Hal Jordan is mentioned by name in the post, that's a pretty straightforward tag for the average Tumblr user. "Oh, Hal has a line in this mini chat fic? I'll tag him." They're not thinking about catering to your experience, or your desire to see exclusive, high-quality Hal Jordan content. They're tagging the guy because he shows up in the post, full stop.

Another issue is the ability to filter in the opposite direction -- without tagging Hal Jordan in posts, you also remove the ability for other users to filter him out of posts, regardless of his role "size" in that post. If he's not tagged, he's harder to filter around. That's why we have tags - to find and to avoid content.

I got feedback while writing love comes quickly that I shouldn't have tagged Batlantern in my posts about their jealousy/love triangle because the Batlantern wasn't "endgame." The problem was, Batlantern literally happened in that fic. It happened in the posts. And so I tagged those posts with the ship, because guess what? The posts were about Batlantern. They weren't "endgame", but that's not how tagging works. It's how you want it to work, but that's not how most people think or have used tags.

I think the overall problem here is that you, and other fans (I've seen this same discourse about Duke and other characters who don't get enough "fandom time") use the Tumblr tag as a way to find and enjoy content about your favorite character. There's nothing wrong with that, but it involves a ton of sifting. And yes - even those in the Batfamily/Batman tags have to do this, too.

Where we differ in opinion, I suspect, is that I don't think sifting through your character tag is a great way to find high quality, character-focused posts. And I don't think we should expect it to be. The tag is an unedited, unfiltered swill of a variety of posts -- some with Hal Jordan as the focus, some with him as a secondary JL character, and some where he's mentioned in passing.

I see people get very defensive and "protective" of these character tags, and you correctly identify that that kind of protectiveness is fruitless. I posit that it is because you, not the random accounts tagging Hal Jordan on a JL post, are using the tag filter/search incorrectly. You have expectations for Tumblr that are neither realistic for the platform, nor how it has been historically used.

But listen -- the tag search is the place you start. You sift, you filter out posts, and eventually you find blogs that post high-quality content that focuses on your character exclusively. You follow those blogs, and eventually your dashboard is the stream of Hal Jordan-focused posts, both new and reblogged, that you want the character tag to be.

The problem is, as I suspect you've seen, there just aren't as many Hal Jordan or Duke-focused blogs putting out content at the rate of the Batman/Batfamily tags. And that's really disappointing, and I don't want to skip over that. It really sucks, and unfortunately sometimes our only option is to either 1) accept that 2) create our own content or 3) convince others to create content. But shaming people for using the tag "wrong" -- not what you're doing here, to clarify, but just what I've seen -- isn't the way to achieve #3 there at all. You just turn people off ever mentioning that character again.

You might think this is a harsh take, and you might think that I contribute to the issue you are experiencing. There is a way for people to use Tumblr and for you to enjoy your content. But it involves work on your end, and managing expectations. And of course, a general level of respect from people creating posts and tagging them. I hope you're not upset with this response, but I think it's the last I'll say on the subject.

Okay, well I didn't want to make this public, and you blocked me, and I'm tired of people walking all over me when it comes to stealing my work, I'm going to explain the situation here and set boundaries right now. Again. Because I'm so sick and fucking tired of dealing with this.

First off, I would like to say don't harass this person. Don't send anon messages, or hate, or comment on their posts, or anything. I'm only bringing this out because you guys need to learn to respect writers. I've deleted two accounts because of shit like this and I'm NOT letting it get to me a third time.

Anyway, so I get sent this anon message. The fic they're referring to is one that isn't posted on tumblr, but is here on AO3. It's a very dark fic, basically where Price kidnaps a wife, and when she doesn't act the way he wants her to, he has her lobotomized so that she's more "docile." It's a horror fic. This person then decided that they wanted to write a continuation of the fic, therefore stealing my idea without my permission. (no matter how much they want to claim they were only inspired, a continuation without permission is still stealing!!)

Now, many of you had kindly pointed out to this person that the idea was very similar to mine. And they very much admitted in this anon ask that it was an aftermath situation of MY fic. But this seemed to annoy them.

Up until very recently I never did because it never occurred to me. I wasn't trying to be a dick, I just didn't know I was supposed to. then I went through a period during spn after learning that where I felt bad and replied to everything. Now I reply to comments that ask me a question or are thought-provoking. I want to answer and to applaud. people leave comments that are more beautiful than the actual fic, you people are very smart and insightful.

6. Angstiest ending?

I'm not good at writing sad endings!! I believe in love! but, for this audience, worthless cartography. sam and dean hook up for the first time right before ahbl pt 2 and then sam dies, so dean thinks it's his fault in a divine retribution kind of way, so when sam is alive again, dean rebuffs him. I always meant to write a second part, but without it, it's pretty sad.

7. Fic with the happiest ending?

I was going to say pine sweat but I remembered it takes place in S5 so sam is dead within a fortnight lmao. it's definitely hard reset, an fma roy/ed fic. it's 15 years post-canon and after a lot of yearning and trying to make it work, they make it work. very blue skies everybody wins.

8. Do you get hate?

Not much these days, but I used to. mostly for writing roy/ed, with a big age/power gap, and for my novel with the same. for writing hockey rpf ships people didn't like, someone threatened to call my office and tell my bosses I was a pedophile. also when I was 13 I wrote a very OOC house/wilson fic and someone said it sucked and I got so mad I started writing original works out of spite (because nobody could tell me they were ooc)

9. Do you write smut?

Very much so, as a treat/reward/resolution to a story, much like sex is irl, lol. I rarely write smut on its own (blood sacrifice sex magic type of thing would be the closest, or middle name) not because I have anything against it but because in my own work I wanna feel very much like it's THE characters, whoever they are, and plot is the easiest way to do that. if I wanna just crank my hog I can do that on my own time.

10. Do you write crossovers?

Nosiree, I'm boring. no crossovers or AUs. barry tells me I will want to write an spn/x files crossover though, and because he's the one that got me into spn I've learned not to tell him he's wrong.

11. Ever had a fic stolen?

Yes actually, someone put huge swaths of one of my yakuza fics into a majima/reader fic. I opened a ticket with AO3 but they said it wasn't clear cut enough. I didn't pursue because I don't care.

Yes, this is my favourite thing!!! such a compliment and a beautiful reminder, in english speaking internet and under the shadow of the US, that there are other folks online. several of my spn fics have been translated into mandarin and 2 of my expanse fics have been translated into russian.

Once, in hockey fandom, with someone I didn't like very much. she wasn't a good writer and it was a disaster. I don't remember what happened to it. I wouldn't do it again lol.

Only thing I've done in my fics is kind of a crossed-out written words in an epistolary fic. I've maybe had a few french lines in a fic but I don't think so because it was referencing subtitles. haven't read much either, so, no opinions. but I will say it's shit to do a weird patois in your English language dialogue

Naruto baybeeeee. when I was 11 my sister found my scanned fan art of naruto and sasuke kissing on deviantart. I didn't even think she was on deviantart. 

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

Hangdog, easily, but I think that's only because true detective s1 is remarkably rich and good so I'm really just drafting off marty and rust's coattails. but also probably Matryoshka dolls for spn, because it feels very well considered and tied together and intentional and satisfying, to me. but it deserves merit because as any spn fan knows, you gotta have a rich inner universe in order to truly play in their space. cw gets no credit.

EDIT: or, actually, my venture bros fic, lol. there was something very lovely about writing fic for a show that in no way makes me horny. Just a show I love very much.

(This post is all over the place, but I needed to talk about my grievances lmao)

For being one of the most common mental illnesses, OCD is so glazed over in mental health discussions. I know I don't normally post this stuff, but as someone with OCD, it's really annoying to see such a common disorder so misrepresented. Especially since even when it is talking about, people don't get into the really damaging aspects of it. I might write a whole essay on this, so here I go.

For one, people underestimate just how horrifying it is to have Harm OCD or Religious OCD. Imagine being a little kid and your brain is telling you you're a monster because your brain randomly decided to shove an image of murder in your head, or that you are going to hell, or that you're going to get possessed because you didn't pray enough. I know a lot of religious trauma folks can relate to the religious superstition parts even if they don't have it, so just a little shout out to anyone suffering from spiritual trauma because you are so fucking valid.

Moving on, let's talk about something I never hear brought up, and that's Trauma OCD. Essentially, it's when your brain uses themes/memories of your trauma to basically make you relive it, not in a PTSD way because they're different, but in a "You must constantly ruminate on this to prove to your own brain that what happened is real and not you secretly lying." It's basically normal OCD symptoms, but your brain is using real life experiences against you. Not in a Real-Event OCD way because that's also another segment of OCD, but in a way where your brain acts like those people who retraumatize survivors by not believing you. Your brain becomes a secondary abuser, I guess. Oh, and then you end up constantly bringing up your trauma to anyone who will listen because you need them to tell you that they feel bad for you 24/7 since if they don't, then clearly what happened to you wasn't bad enough /sar.

There's so much more I didn't get into, like Gender/Sexuality OCD (basically it makes you question your identity constantly and feel like an impostor) and Sexual OCD. There's an obscene number of ways OCD just likes to fuck with people and I'm sick of the only OCD talk being about Symmetry or Contamination OCD (both of those are still hella shitty and super valid, it's just they're the only things people tend to discuss).

I just finished Veilguard, and...I'm really not sure how I feel about it?

All in all: good game, had fun, but still didn't quite hit some of the highs it wanted to hit and it's still not as good as DA2

The Good:

Pretty game is pretty;

Love the codexes, especially the ones written by companions or with their commentary;

Speaking of, the Mementos had so excellent tid bits of lore flavor to them, as well;

Regrets of the Dread Wolf was a damn good quest;

Some truly funny party banter;

I actually thought it was really easy to figure out who my Rook is as I played the game, which was much harder for me to do for my Lavellan in DAI;

And speaking of Lavellan, she was in character she WOULD say that she WOULD do that. Bless;

Everything about Nevarra and the Mourn Watch, I wish there was more content there because I was so into it;

Orb and dagger mage is really fun to play, which was VERY surprising considering I don't play close range ever;

I also really enjoyed destroying blight boils for some reason lmao;

Petting cats (they PURR WHEN YOU DO);

Taash being so autistic;

Teia and Viago my beloveds;

Maybe this is super basic of me but I liked Varric's narration...idk it's comforting;

Honestly, just Varric in general was a bit safety blanket in a nice way for me because the game feels overwhelming at first;

There's no party like an all Dalish party!

Exploring -- loved finding all the fun details in each location, and I know I didn't even do enough in my playthrough;

I'm weak for stories about guilt, fear and regret. And I'm even weaker when those stories are so obviously about forgiveness and moving forward. Also love. Always love.

The Bad:

The pacing. I've said this before but DAtV could've used a more explicit arc structure or have quests note which level they're meant for or SOMETHING because some times it seemed I was doing quests too early or too late for when I was in the main story. I also thought events kept oscillating from happening too fast or too slowly, and it very much did get in the way of immersion;

The romance. Literally what are you doing Dragon Age that you fumble the romance. Granted, I only romanced Davrin so far, but I'm getting the sense from looking through the tag that maybe Lucanis' romance also feels a bit off? Honestly I have so many issues with the romance progression for Davrin that it's its own section;

I hope this is only a Veil Jumpers issue, but I thought Rook was so separate from the faction. I felt very little connection to them;

I've seen some people point out NPCs talk to Rook like they're a child, and while I don't really agree with that I do think Rook doesn't have enough opportunities to be knowledgeable in their own right. Especially annoying with a mage Veil Jumper Rook! I miss the Inquisition perk dialogue options that let my Lavellan be a smarty pants;

Holy overdesigned armors! Yikes!

Not all areas are as well developed as the others: Rivain is the most egregiously empty and underdeveloped, but I actually thought Arlathan Forest was super lifeless too. So was the Lighthouse! You get the early game discovery bit and then nothing ever again and it's like oh that was really it huh (and the stuff we did get was so good please more?);

I hate to say this but BioWare missed the mark with Rook's place in the group. The companions seemed connected to each other, yeah, but Rook was like some cross between group therapist and not-so-undercover boss. There was none of the warmth Hawke got from their companions (or the Inquisitor, for that matter!). The game really needed 1. a lighthearted party hangout cutscene and 2. companions coming together to take care of Rook (the fact this isn't even a thing in the romance is bonkers to me);

Taash's personal quest being about choosing between being Rivain and Qunari as if that's how culture works is Bad Actually;

The worst minimap I've ever seen in a game wow;

Also: give me back my beacon marker;

The gods were in a regret prison but what were their regrets exactly we just don't know.

The Bad (Romance Edition):

Again, the pacing! Incredibly slow to start (and not in a slow burn way, mind!) and then super fast in the last third of the game;

In fact, the romance seemed to be running on a completely different level than the rest of the story. The last romance scene was incredibly out of place tonally, especially.

The first two romance titles for Davrin are "Thrill of the Chase" and "Hot and Bothered"...and like WHERE????

Davrin never writes about Rook as a romantic partner or as if he has any concerns with the relationship...which we later find out he has, but was news to me;

Tbh, the romance felt like an afterthought. There were cutscenes that in any other DA game there would've been flirting options, for instance, but this time there was nothing (what do you mean Rook can't make a flirty comment when Davrin is shirtless working out with Taash? It's low hanging fruit!);

Not nearly enough flirty banter between Rook and Davrin, which is nuts considering their personalities;

I'm really super disappointed with Davrin's romance, which sucks because he's actually perfect for my Rook and I really like his character. There was so much potential for a really fun romance that was both tense and sexy, but also sweet. But no. Secret good Davrin romance that exists in my head save me.

The ???:

Southern Thedas got scorched when the North didn't how?

Please tell me who was catfishing Andraste;

Making enemies super aggro on Rook unless you specifically have companions taunting was very weird.

I've been thinking about this reblog of yours for months and I finally figured out how to respond to it.

I went and read No Longer Human by Junji Ito and it was a very upsetting thing to go through. I don't think I can read it again. However, I came out of it thinking that Gege was probably inspired by it.

When Yozo is first introduced, I noticed that Takaba's backstory was very similar. Feeling isolated from others, he decided to become a clown to gain acceptance from others. (Citations in Image Captions)

And later when Yozo was caught "cheating" (it's in quotes because those women are child rapists), I noticed that her face was really similar to the one Higuruma's client made when he felt betrayed by the trial outcome.

There's probably a lot more to say about how themes surrounding CSA and suicide in this work are echoed in JJK, but I'm not able to make the post myself. No Longer Human is too far out of my comfort zone in terms of graphic depiction to delve into it deeper.

But you seem strong enough to handle it, so... Idk maybe run with this some more.

Ohhh this is so interesting! I could definitely read No Longer Human again - tbh I read Junji Ito's version years ago. This year I listened to the audio book and bought a copy - but it's like, a draft in the author's handwriting (bc I thought it would help me study Japanese and if I had an English translation that I'd read it on repeat lmao). But you're real for that - I forget how disturbed people tend to be trying to read through it, I'm sorry that was rough.

I did go back to read the reblog and idk how relevant all that was - I've reread the manga since and felt like, oh I might have been misremembering some things like Uraume - idk if they actually had a freeze response in ch. 219, since they did tell Yorozu to back off though it took a minute - but it's also interesting how their CT deals with ice. Like to have a fight response, they freeze others? It's so interesting but I can't be sure whether it's there at all. (ik that yap II inspired some more coherent posts, like how it influenced Choso's self-image, etc., I linked but didn't tag you back then bc I felt Annoying especially w heavy topics but I can definitely go back and find them if you'd like.)

On a twin peaks note (without spoiling it), I feel like it inspired jjk to some extent - I've been feeling like the last chapter will end the way s2 did. Or at least - with the weird dreamy themes, "we are the dreamer who dreams and who lives inside the dream", etc...

But you're right - Yozo and the others' reactions resemble more jjk characters than I would think to connect. Takaba's jokes are truly a shield... And now I have an excuse to read Junji Ito's version again? Thank u so much (also isn't it funny how September 28 Uzumaki airs and September 30 jjk ends?).

I think gege gets inspired by the most tragic stories, I wonder how much of that is accurate but I can't always be convinced otherwise.... Especially when anime / manga series that he's confirmed as influences often deal with autonomy in ways that I couldn't handle (Evangelion, the night beyond the tricornered window).

By the way - ik we've mentioned elfen lied before, but in the first episode, you know that coffee mug? How it looks like jjk foreshadowing? Even has snail head Mahito - cut off-, the baseball, Panda, the worm (also cut off).... and later the newborn babies that look just like Yuuji...

I swear that elfen lied, Kagewani, and banana fish influenced jjk. It seems so obvious w those, maybe Vampire Princess Miyu as well.

Sorry for getting off topic - I've been looking into why Momotaro keeps coming up in jujutsu kaisen, and in the end it came back full circle to that damn coffee cup. Invest in a baseball team? A zoo? I'm going insane.

All this to say - rereading Junji Ito's version and seeing if I notice similarities between manga panels is so exciting. Gege even made a note that he asked for permission before drawing - I think it was the Uzumaki CT - So we know he's a big fan of Junji Ito. And it seems like there is a rly good chance No Longer Human inspired him as well (though I feel like characters with similar traumas having similar reactions is inevitable to some extent, if they're written in a believable way, it should be clearer when I'm reading both stories in the same format) based on the stories he has officially referenced.

In his mer form, he does not have a tail but extremely long tentacles that are blue, white, and purple and do, in fact, paralyse you just like his UM, but the effects are temporary and he does not control them. His skin is dark blue, and his fins are purple. He has claws as well.

Personality:

Still in development, but my basic idea is that he's a guy that seems very serious, but he's actually pretty chill (at least he likes to say he is but he has a short temper lol) and he mainly wants what's best for the students of Night Raven, which is why he took his position in the first place. He is very wise and creative and thinks of unusual solutions to problems students come to him with. He's stone cold and vicious when he wants to be (especially of something that's happened puts people in danger) and is very unlikely to feel sorry for the students he punishes.
