As you walk inside the building you’ve always admired, you see Scaramouche on his phone, doing whatnot. There were many instances where you passed by Komore Teahouse and saw so many people chatting and laughing while drinking their pastries and tea. This time, it was dead empty.

“Scara.” You call.

“Hey, [Name].” He greets you, putting his phone down.

“So, how do you plan on studying?” You ask him.

“Active recall. Kazuha gave me a list of expected words to see in the competition. Here.” He gives you your own copy. Now looking at the list, it was what you’re studying before by yourself. 

“Seems pretty easy. Though, I think it’s also safe to study words that might be on there. This school just loves giving surprises.” You say, setting down your paper.

“Alright, I’ll ask you to spell some words and you do the same, ok?” He says, scanning the paper full of words uncommon to see in a normal sentence.

“Sure sure.” He takes both your paper and his and puts it on the side. You both have decent memory, you’ll be able to name quite a few.

“Ok, spell controversy.” Easy.

“C-o-n-t-r-o-v-e-r-s-y.” You say with such ease present in your voice.

“Alright, Scara. Spell manoeuvre.” Is this child’s play?

“M-a-n-o-e-u-v-r-e for the British spelling, m-a-n-e-u-v-e-r for the American spelling.” His cockiness only fuels his ego, as if his isn’t already high enough.

“Hm, So we’re doing this now, Kunikuzushi?” To say that he was caught off-guard was an understatement. Nevertheless, he pays no mind.

“[Name], spell autochthonous.” 

“You just give me the easiest words to spell, no? A-u-t-o-c-h-t-h-o-n-o-u-s.” You tilt your head ever so slightly, smiling teasingly, almost smirking. 

“So what if I do, [Name]?” 

“I need a challenge. That competition is no joke. Spell, hmm. Chiaroscurist.” (for those who don’t know how to pronounce it, “ki-ya-ros-kyu-rist��!)

“Oh, uhm.” He was unfamiliar with that word, but he doesn’t want to be the first one who gets a word wrong. Sound it out, maybe?

“K-”

“Haha, wrong!” You rejoice in victory after hearing that single letter. It feels like you’ve been wanting for him to get it wrong. 

“I’m sure you’re not that perfect. Spell supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.” 

“You really show no mercy, huh? S-u-p-e-r-c-a-l-i-f-r-a-g-i-l-i-s-t-i-c-e-x-p-i-a-l-i-d-o-c-i-o-u-s. Unlucky for you, I know almost every word in the English vocabulary.” Right, your mom made you read the dictionary. At this point, he’s so close to giving up. Isn’t this supposed to be a study session, not an unofficial competition?

“Though, I’m sure they’re not going to put the longest word in the world. Well, maybe one, but towards the end.” You say, staring out the window of the sunny day.

“Huh? Towards the end? How does the spelling bee work?” He asks, obviously confused.

“It works like all are in our own individual teams with buttons in front of us. If you know how to spell the word, you get 100 points, if you spell the word wrong, you lose 50 points. The scores will be tallied up and there will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Runner’s up will be an honorable mention, but no rewards will be given.” You explain how the competition works. So, there’s no teams, hm? He’s satisfied he doesn’t have to work with people.

“Any more questions?” You ask him, hoping to answer his inquiries. 

“Yeah. You’re pretty, has anyone ever kissed you?”

“Ah! Uhm, no. Why?” You’re flustered. Why the hell would he ask that?

“Then… Let me be the first, hm?” 

“What?-” You barely processed what he said before he leaned over from the other side of the table, smashing his lips into yours. Your eyes widen, what the fuck? You couldn't even do anything before he pulled away and immediately asks you. “[Name], spell anachronistic.”

“I- Uhm. A-...n-a-k? I think?” you’re too flustered to even think. 

“Hm. Incorrect. What happened to “I know almost every word in the English vocabulary”?” It was his turn to smirk, cocky bastard.

“Hey, you did that on purpose!” You retort back.

Ok ok... I haven't read the OG book (I ordered that though and it's arriving on Wednesday!), but... Hear me out.

Apparently, according to Google, originally Aunt Em and Unkle Henry are actually Dorothy's adopted parents. Her biological mother left her on their doorstep. In Oz, the Scarecrow, Tinman, and Lion all vowed to look after each other and Dorothy on their way to Oz.

What if Dorothy, as a baby/young child, got taken to Oz and somehow found herself in the care of the trio? Maybe one of them found her and basically adopted her (Scare was nailed to his post, and Lion was a coward that ran from everything. So my best guess would be Tinny). Or all three of them if they had found each other first? Imagine them all trying to figure out what to do with this child! Imagine the lengths they go to protect her and take care of her! Imagine Dorothy growing up and hearing them all say they don't have brains, heart or courage, but she sees them as the smartest, loving and bravest people she knows! 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺

Basically, a Three Men and a Baby/Little Lady AU, but with Dorothy and Friends. Idk about you, but I need this wholsomeness in my life XD ^^ (maybe Dorothy's wish in this AU would be to know where she really came from? 🤔)

🥺🥺🥺 BUT IMAGINE LION FINDS HER FIRST!! He was scared by her at first, so he rushes behind some bushes or something... just to see another jungle creature approach the defenseless little bundle. And they look h u n g r y. And Lion is terrified of that creature even worse, but even more then that?? He's scared f o r the defenseless bundle!!

So. He decides, taking a deep whimpering breath. He has to save it.

And after that he ends up keeping the little one, because oh its kind of cute?? So sweet??? He's still a little scared of it every time it cries or screams (or sneaks up on him, if Dorothy's already crawling), but its so... weak. Cant even roar. And its all alone, like him... He Has to care for it.

But he cant do it here. Its too dangerous in the jungle. They have to go somewhere else.

And on the way to a 'safe place', they meet Tin and Scarecrow!!! The Lion tries to leave them both as soon as he sees them, but both times baby Dorothy slips from the Lion's grasp, or cries so sadly at the prospect of leaving them that once again- he h a s to step up and help the strange men.

Okay, some extra HC's that came to mind with this:

Scarecrow showing his brains by being the one to find food for baby Dottie after Tin Woodman tells Lion she cant eat raw meat- thats not how baby humans work. Scare did the same thing for little teenage Dorothy in the book! He found her food multiple times (Nuts, fruit) and I just love that about their relationship. He also covers her in dry leaves to keep her warm while she sleeps.

Tin Woodman showing his heart when he's the one to hold Baby Dottie and stick with her and sympathise with her through all her tantrums and bouts of uncontrollable crying. As she grows up this doesn't change, and he's always the one she talks to when she needs it.

Just another book thing I love, but- Tin and Scare watching over Lion and baby Dottie every night while they slept, since they don't do that. Baby Dottie often sleeping in Scare's arms because he's squishy and warm like a blanket and Lion will get startled if she sleeps with him and suddenly moves.

Tin Woodman making Dottie clothes and blankets and stuff as she gets bigger. I just feel like out of all of them, Tin would have the most home-making skills. (IMAGINE HIM TEACHING LION HOW TO KNIT, THOUGH!! It would be such a nice calm activity for him <3)

Scare and Lion telling the best bedtime stories while Tin sits with little Dottie in his lap and gets just as into it as she does. Scare's get goofy and out-there, while Lion's detail brave acts of daring-do he imagines he might complete if he had the courage.

IMAGINE HOW THIS CHANGE EFFECTS THE DOROTHY MUST DIE VERSION OF THE STORY!! Those are no longer her friends- thats her Straw Dad and her Fur Dad and her Tin Dad. The love Tin has for Dorothy is no longer romantic (Unless it still is, in which case... I'm still intrigued by this even darker storyline honestly) but fatherly. Protective. Maybe he's sad that she's turned out this way, but he will never turn away from her?? He couldn't?? Thats his little girl and he will always be on her side.

Plot: Leon and the reader work for Umbrella. The reader hates their job because they were being trained to be a field agent kind of like Leon but ended up being heavily injured in a training exercise. Very sardonic and full of sass they walk around using a cane now with their job being similar to Hunnigan. Leon gets into some trouble during his assignment and with the help of the reader, he manages to get through. The Reader has to semi-begrudgingly help him out because they do care about Leon but find it a little hard to show it. Who knows, maybe when Leon gets back to the HQ they'll kiss or something :).

A gentle summer rain turned into a thunderstorm quickly.

Y/N was sitting at their desk, wearing a headset much like Hunnigan's. Their attention was directed at the monitor in front, which displayed the activity of a field agent. Their job was to watch the situation and help the agent fulfill his mission.

It was late, so late that they could barely keep their eyes open. Near them, there were a few cups of coffee, some empty, some with a little liquid in them that ran cold except for one that was fresh. They liked their coffee hot. When they felt another wave of fatigue hit, they quickly took a sip of the hot beverage.

An assignment shouldn't take this long, but the Government loves to give Leon the toughest missions. So they were stuck on that chair until he returned home. Normally another agent can replace them, but for reasons only known to them, they refused to be replaced.

"Condor One to Roost, do you copy?" A familiar voice said through the microphone that made them flinch.

"Roost to Condor One, I copy. What's your situation?"

The first instinct was to scold Leon for being out for so long, but the mission was already hard. He didn't need more pressure.

"I got the papers and the sample. Man, these mercenaries are no joke."

"Did you really expect to get an easy mission?"

"A man can only hope."

Y/N chuckled, and with a few clicks, he found Leon's current location.

"I see you found a safe place."

"Not exactly. I found this weird, wooden piece, and my guts telling me it belongs here."

"I don't think you have time to play with toys, Kennedy."

"Just trust me, ok? Condor One out."

A moment of silence followed, during which Y/N took another sip of the coffee. What an agent like Kennedy can do with a wooden toy is beyond him, but he has faith in his unorthodox methods.

"I never understood these villains' obsession with puzzles," Leon said suddenly as he struggled to rotate the wooden piece in front of the light to cast the shadow of an emblem on the near wall. This puzzle was crucial for him if he wanted to advance.

"Neither did I with world domination but here we are. I'm stuck in a chair and you're stuck matching colors and creating shadow animals."

"It's not an animal, it's the family's emblem. Get your facts straight."

Y/N let out a long exhale.

"Please tell me I wasn't stuck here for days just for you to get stuck at some childish game."

"Excuse me, but this kind of stuff requires a lot of precision and I can't quite finish in such conditions."

"I'm so sorry dear. Which troubles you most: the fact that you have an entire clan trying to kill you for stealing their research, or my bitching?"

"Right now, your bitching."

Y/N remained quiet. They didn't know how to respond.

The communication ended, leaving them staring at the monitor.

Only an hour had passed but it felt like days. They waited anxiously for Leon to respond. Despite seeing him moving along the map, they still needed to hear his voice for confirmation.

"Yes, I copy Leon."

"Good. I solved the puzzle just in time and was able to escape."

"That's good to hear. Are the files and sample still in your possession?"

"Yes. I'm in one piece too by the way."

"I had no worries that it would be otherwise."

"You have so much faith in me."

"I just trust your skills."

"Meaning you have faith in me and care about me. You just don't wanna admit it."

"Do I have to remind you that you're still on duty?"

Leon scoffed and ended the conversation.

They never understood Leon's attitude toward missions. He seemed carefree, sometimes making silly jokes with them and his enemies like his life wasn't in danger. They both share the exact same coping mechanism, which is so strange to them.

"You know, this situation takes me back," Leon said suddenly.

The agent was very talkative during this mission, which was strange because he wasn't talking strictly about the mission. It seemed that he wanted to talk with them, as if he missed them?

Reluctantly, they moved their hand to their thigh and rubbed it gently. No matter how gentle the touch was, it was still painful.

"How so?" they asked with bitterness in their voice.

"Well, first, I feel like a rookie. I don't know what I'm doing here, and it feels like the first time I've been in combat. And second, this guy I'm with is kinda bossy, and it reminds me of Krauser."

"...Krauser..." That name sent shivers down their spine because it was the same guy who trained them, and it was the same guy who was responsible for their accident. Well, not directly, as his training methods were very unethical and pushed them far beyond their limits.

Noticing that they remained silent, Leon began to feel a little guilty.

"Right, you got injured during his training...sorry." His voice dropped.

"No, it's fine. I'm way past that. And besides, I hated the idea of being a field agent. No offense."

"None taken."

"I like what I'm doing right now, so if you are done reminiscing, I'd advise you to focus on your mission."

“You’d make one helluva agent, you know that, right?” Leon said it genuinely.

“Thanks! Coming from you means something.”

“Oh don’t get all sentimental on me now, you’re gonna make me cry.”

The mission ended successfully as always.

They hurried to greet Leon. Despite not showing it, Y/N deeply cared about him. A slight hunch in their posture, aided by the cane they now heavily relied upon, gave you an air of weariness that matched their cynical demeanor perfectly.

Once they saw Leon they let out a sigh of relief, the weight of the mission finally lifting from their shoulders. Even if he looked perfectly fine, there was no way of telling if the mission affected him or not because he hid it well.

"Bastard..." they thought. His act of hiding his pain is contradictory to them because, by concealing his true emotions, he is presenting a facade that does not reflect his actual state of being, thus perceiving him as a hypocrite.

However, all of that anger was cast away when they and Leon made eye contact. His eyes instantly glimmered and his lips curved into a big smile. They stopped being so tensed as all that rush caused by adrenaline gave way to a moment of calm.

"Hey stranger, come here." He said softly, his voice filled with a mix of gratitude and affection as he pulled Y/N into a tight hug. "We make a great team, you know that?"

"I know, even if you annoy me sometimes." They couldn't help but smile genuinely.

Even if they broke the hug, they remained very close to one another. Y/N was so happy to see Leon alive, and he must've been happy to see Y/N too.

"You should get some sleep, tho." He said as he closed the gap between your bodies.

"Yeah, you too."

Leon reached out a hand and gently touched their cheek. It was a tender, unspoken acknowledgment of the bond they shared. And before they could react, he leaned in, capturing their lips in a lingering kiss.

At that moment, the weight of their frustrations and inhibitions melted away, replaced by a sense of warmth and connection. Perhaps, in the chaos of their lives, there was room for something more—a fragile yet undeniable love that had weathered the storm.

ok. so I might not be making the Ruins section completely game accurate. but I hope that makes things more interesting.

the scene starts in the ENTRANCE TO THE UNDERGROUND. a scream is heard from above as FRISK falls from the sky and lands on the bed of soft flowers, shaken, but not injured. floating nearby them is CHARA, who looks around the room. before settling on hovering behind Frisk, who stands up and stretches

FRISK: Hmm... something is off here. this reset feels different somehow. CHARA: That's because you somehow triggered Hard Mode Frisk looks at Chara with a very confused expression CHARA: Hard Mode. It's exactly what it sounds like. FRISK: Ok... you're the narrator, so I trust you on this. what kinds of things are changed by this? CHARA: For one, your bandage doesn't let you run anymore. I'm not exactly sure why I know all of this, but ever since I started floating around you, I've known a lot of things that have no reason I can think of to know. FRISK: Good to know... I suppose I should just get going and see what's up next then. Frisk and Chara enter into FLOWEY'S ROOM. in the middle of it is FLOWEY himself with a slightly exasperated look on his face FRISK: Hey. FLOWEY: Don't you have Anything better to do? FRISK: I do not. until I figure out how to make it so Chara can actually interact with more then just me, I'll reset as many times as I need to. Frisk's SOUL appears in front of them as color leeches away from their surroundings. four buttons; labeled FIGHT, ACT, ITEM, and MERCY, appear in front of them as well. CHARA: *Flowey starts a proper FIGHT for once. FLOWEY: then you might be in luck... I can feel that something has changed... heh heh... I don't know what exactly you did, but the underground has done the impossible. it did something new. Frisk presses the button titled ACT, and then presses another button that appears after this called talk. CHARA: *you told Flowey that what was triggered is called Hard Mode. *He seems to chuckle at this. FLOWEY: Interesting name. come to think of it, this encounter is new, isn't it? CHARA: *Flowey cackles to himself. Frisk presses the MERCY button, and selects spare from the other buttons presented. FLOWEY: Who knows. I m i g h t e v e n b e a b l e t o e n d y o u f o r g o o d t h i s t i m e a r o u n d. Flowey creates several circles of bullets and implodes them upon Frisk to deal unavoidable damage, the final circle of bullets is created, and Flowey begins to laugh. FLOWEY: I won't drag it out this time. DIE. Flowey makes this final circle implode at the same speed as the other ones instead of slowly doing it like normal, but a fireball comes in from the side and blows a hole in the circle that's just big enough for Frisk's soul to get out and dodge. Flowey looks confused, before another fireball comes in and knocks him out of the way. TORIEL walks in and stands in front of Frisk. TORIEL: What a terrible creature, torturing such a poor, innocent youth... Ah, do not be afraid my child. I am TORIEL, caretaker of the RUINS. I pass through this place every day to see if anyone has fallen down. You are the first human to come here in a long time. Come! I will guide you through the catacombs. Frisk's soul returns to their body and color returns to the world around them. TORIEL: This way. Toriel turns around and walks through a nearby door CHARA: well then... this is already looking to be an unusual experience. FRISK: Despite how scary that was... I actually feel like this is going to be fun! CHARA: of course you do. this is actually something we haven't seen before. FRISK: Well. there are at least some things that haven't changed. should we accompany mom now? CHARA: yeah. that sounds good.
