Are you pro/neutral Endo?

Short answer:

People would say I am most likely neutral. I don’t care what someone labels themselves as, and I don’t think it is important to obsess over this so much. It makes me uncomfortable when people keep trying to push whether I should be pro or anti anything when I don’t even experience it. I think we should let people be until they are actually inflicting harm/pain onto others.

I used to be huge in discourse communities on Insta in 2018-2019 and I never want to be in them again. I just want to educate people and provide resources otherwise inaccessible. This will probably be my last post on this because this debate has driven me away from ever using tumblr, and I have nearly deleted my profile because of it.

If you wanted the short one, then there you go. However, this answer will never suffice to me. It doesn’t represent the complicated feelings I have across so many different parts of myself. I have a lot of conflicting thoughts about this, and I plan on being more in depth with my process through these feelings below the cut. (I got tired writing it and like just started half assing and not correcting stuff, but I’ve wanted to get this out and away from me. Just comment if you need more clarification)

My feelings: Neutral or Pro?

I will always support people in figuring out things for themselves and finding ways to describe themselves. Even though I cannot begin to understand non-disordered plurality, I do understand that endo does NOT mean without trauma. Trauma in itself is extremely complicated, and things we don’t think are trauma tend to be very traumatic (i.e. neglect, systems of oppression, emotional abuse, etc.). Even then, I am not in someone’s head nor have I lived their experience.

If someone says this is their experience, I am not going to disagree and argue with them over it. That’s stupid and pushy. I would rather learn of someone’s experience so that I can understand it, which is ultimately what we NEED to be doing. Frankly, there isn’t enough research or information about non-disordered plurality for me to make any claims, and even then I wouldn’t jump to say it could NEVER happen. There’s a big reason I have no DNI: my account is all about accessing free resources and making people feel seen in their symptoms.

Additionally, it’s no one else’s job but my own to curate my page. I see something I feel uncomfortable with or heavily disagree with? I will block them. Until they are INTENTIONALLY causing malicious pain or damage that CAN BE CONFIRMED, I am not going to publicly “denounce” or “shame” someone. I am an adult and can just block freely if I don’t feel comfortable with something, but that’s not even the point of why I made this blog. While it sounds hypocritical for me to say this after positing a few vents about this discourse, I want to be clear that no matter WHAT tag I look at, it always has something to do with a “-genic” label. It’s literally inescapable atp and I am thoroughly tired of it.

Just let people be is what I will always say.

The Complications: My thoughts

When it comes to these topics, it makes me feel really alienated to only see the most discussed symptom be the “alters” or identity states. It also feels extremely alienating to see people trying to rename this disorder to focus on the “multiple identities” part, ignoring the OTHER symptoms and the history of CALLING this disorder that. I think it’s a big reason we see some traumagenic systems becoming so aggressive about this: our identities are not stable and it can cause heavy denial to see the focus shift only onto one aspect of the disorder.

“Dissociative identity” is a great name for those with disorderly symptoms because it IS a dissociation from one identity to another. Additionally, this is NOT only about identity dissociation, this can be dissociation from one’s motor skills, cognitive abilities, sensations and perceptions, behaviors, emotions, memories, and literally ANYTHING related to cognition in general. I do agree that we need to recognize the spectrum of dissociation, but that ALREADY exists in things like DPDR, OSDD-1, P-DID, and DID.

The lexicon surrounding DID vs plurality DEFINITELY calls for more defined edges, and I think people have already been working towards that (many with non-disordered plurality use “plural” or “multiple”). However, it becomes confusing and muddled when people are constantly fighting about who “coined what label” or “whether someone should use this label” when experiences are very fluid and different.

Traumagenic systems also need to recognize extreme anger and emotional attacks on non-disordered plurality gets us no where. If someone is willing to be hateful towards the smallest community with high vulnerability, their support was only conditional to begin with. It is clear that many of the reddits making fun of systems do NOT care about the “legitimacy” of your diagnosis. They do not care whether or not what you’re experiencing is real, they just want something to make fun of.

Conclusions

I will never be able to experience non-disorder plurality as “plurality” is not my own or full experience. I have had many people make jokes about my life being, “A shitty wattpad fanfic some kid shoved every single trauma into” because of how gruesome and fucked my childhood was. I cannot begin to understand how plurality is shaped outside of trauma, and that is why I will never engage or force myself to debate to legitimacy of someone’s experience.

Regardless of the labels someone chooses, I made this blog with the intent to make other systems like me feel seen. I want to discuss the intricate symptoms and severities in my own conditions that I never saw publicly discussed. My entire goal is to try and bring awareness and education to the community so they can better understand how something like DID impacts them. I didn’t come out about my disorder to engage in discourse, I came out so other people like me would be able to parse through everything and find themselves.

I WANT to make people happy with themselves, and I WANT to bring meaning to my own life. Academic research was one of the first times I had actually felt seen and heart through a diagnosis.

yo, i need to know if im weird for this. please please please tell me if this is normal behavior and if its not what sorta behavior is it/what should i do about it. ive been scared to talk ab it with anyone irl because i sound insane.

so i divide certain parts of my brain up into little characters. all the characters are already existing, and also exist as their own characters, but i've attached them to certain parts of my brain relative to how they act

all the characters are different variations of me, in a way or another

to make it easier whoever had my straight ass whole name was renamed only in the context of these guys so that not only i can make it clear who's who but also make it easy to tell if i'm talking about the character itself or the assigned one in my dome

bassie is a toh kinsona, ash is a previous fursona of mine, eddigan is another kinsona, and briar is a freakass oc from inside job

i unintentionally personified certain parts of my brain, i assume to make it easier to group the behaviors that were similar, and to provide a visual for anyone who might need it

i think it's important to note that sometimes, it can feel like they're in my mind, like their presence is there. other times they're nothing more than a silly little idea i've come up with. sometimes it feels like they're talking in my head. they're the ones telling me to do this responsible thing, or say that snarky remark. sometimes i feel like i'm being convinced and controlled to do stuff by these guys.

this is also probably the reason why i get a 'system scare' every few months. to be clear i know extremely little about systems but when i worry about my health it's usually to the extreme and this behavior feels too 'alter-y' for me to sit comfortably on it.

it feels wrong to ask the internet to, in a way, diagnose me, but as i said earlier, i'm terrified of trying to talk about this to people i know in real life until i'm sure it's something that i should actually worry about. thank you if you can help, thank you if you can't, because at least you read about what i was dealing with.

Well, well, well my friends. I’ve paused the episode to announce that the moment is finally here. You see I wanted to go into this spoiler free, so I dutifully blocked the Wolf359 tags on tumblr. But before I blocked the Wolf359 tags, I saw a lot of angsty Wolf359 fan art from my mutuals heavily implying that the Hephaestus crew gets betrayed by someone they come across. Now I’m going to assume that this is true, maybe I’m off base, maybe I’m not, please don’t confirm or deny anything. But working off this assumption, incorrect or otherwise, is very exciting because I just remember the art, nothing about names or context other than what I stated previously, which means it’s time to play everyone’s favorite game show:

What does Blessie think about all this? No one has mentioned him. SI-5 either hasn’t noticed or doesn’t care. But Blessie is a very capable plant. A good ally to have in a time like this.

OC tag game

Tagged by @gvnseylike (thank you!!) I'm sticking to dragon age ocs for the dragon age blog because I have made so many ocs I don't think I'd be able to make these choices otherwise lmao

Favorite OC: This changes almost literally hourly. Right now I'm leaning towards Rodaine but Tierce is so close behind it's barely a difference lmao

Newest OC: of dragon age ocs I *think* it might be Halen's brother Ephraim. I just recently figured out quite a few of his character traits and renamed him so he's basically a whole new guy now lmao

Oldest OC: I literally wouldn't be able to answer this if I wasn't doing just DA ocs lmao. Of DA ocs, though, my oldest is the apocryphal Nico Tabris who was my very first Warden ever. He was a massive contributing factor to my absolute obsession with dragon age lmao

Meanest OC: I think it's Tierce? But Rodaine isn't close behind. Tierce tends to be very blunt when asked for feedback and he can also be rather glib in situations where dicking around maybe isn't appropriate. Rodaine is also very blunt and he doesn't always realize when that bluntness should probably be tempered a bit to soften a verbal blow. He tends to be a lot more apologetic about when something he says lands differently than he intended it to where Tierce tends to just shrug it off or double down because he's stubborn as fuck so that is why I think he's meaner lmao.

Softest OC: Probably Alding? Or maybe Serenity, who is Rodaine's younger sister. Hard to really say though because most of my character have a very tough edge to them even if they tend towards softness. I like that Alding and Serenity both choose that softness despite the difficult things they've been through.

Most Aloof/Standoffish OC: Rodaine. He doesn't mean to be, he's just quiet and has a resting bitch face most of the time. He's very serious and is slow to trust so he comes off as unfriendly and unapproachable and he isn't good at picking up social cues so he doesn't immediately realize when people are trying to befriend him and that sometimes makes him seem uninterested in friendship when that isn't true.

Dumbest (Affectionate) OC: all of my ocs are dumb in their own ways but I think I'm going to go with René, who's Rodaine's brother. He's just a jock and he's at peace with that and I think that's the right mindset but also he's just a himbo.

Smartest OC: Rodaine. Big gifted kid energy. He's not great with social stuff but he's smart in most other areas, clever, tries to think things through before he does them. He loves magic and has spent so long studying his craft and he's a nerd who likes to read history books

OC I'd Probably Be Friends With: this one is hard... I think maybe Alding? Soft boy but he knows how to have fun. I think Rodaine and Tierce would intimidate me in different ways lmao. I think I'd also like Annika and Rosalie (Rodaine's sisters) and Aned (Halen's sister)

It's probably more messy than you realize, but I'm glad I've managed a satisfying system to deal with everything but let's demystify some stuff

To sum it up :

- Google form is your friend here, especially if you're planning for a big bracket (else paper and pen also works well from what I've seen)

- The first thing you do is making a copy of your Google Sheet. That way if you mess up one / you erase info to make it lighter on the eyes you still have a not modified one with everything in it you can copy infinitely. Give each file names different enough you don't risk to confuse them

- Actually the first thing you should do could be trying to use the google form and check if your answers appear correctly on the sheet

- Colorcode. This one I learnt from watching other poll runners. Other poll runners often have great ideas which will help you out with a lot of stuff

The more submissions you got, the more colors you'd have to settle for. Use distincts colors, not just shades of one. And write them down at first, you'll get better at reminding them the more you use them

Here's my code but it's not necessarily better than another

(It actually has suggestions to up to 16 submissions but I stopped respecting it properly over 8 submissions. Not many characters have more so I just use any color I know I'm not using for the others randomly)

- Colorcode more. I have two systems with colors.

I use the left column as such : untouched for the ones that hadn't been put through a bracket, blue for the ones currently in the bracket, red for the ones that won't be in the main bracket, green for the ones accepted into the main bracket. I erased the dates when there were several submissions for easier reading

- Actually I have another colorcoded system. Names written in red are ones I'm not certain what to do about. I use the dilemmas tag for those.

- Dates in bold means the character's already in my @flowerycharacterslist (that's a suggestions list)

- If a red name is barred and the date was erased, it was voted against on the blog.

- Rename things when needed. For example when you have many submissions for the same fandom and they keep intertwining (ie : a submission for Daisy is followed by one for Daisy too but they're separated by a submission for Bluebear), you can just do ridiculous stuff like that to have them in the right order :

I'm organizing my sheet per media (except when checking for doubles, like Susan Pevensie (Narnia) and Susan Pevensie (Chronicles of Narnia) to give them the same fandom name) and have to do similar stuff often enough

- Keep track of what you're doing. The earlier you're up to date from the start, the easier it is afterward. I started ordering things when I had a few hundreds' submissions I think and needed half a day but earlier would probably not hurt if organization isn't really your thing

- Remember that you can ask for help. To other poll runners, yes, since many will try to help, but also to your followers. You don't know if a character belong ? Make a poll so people can vote

- Don't worry about making mistakes. Do your best to be respectful and understanding and keep a safe place for your followers (basically, block anyone sounding threatening/discriminatory) and you'll be okay. Nobody worth your time will jump at your throat for setting the wrong time limit or picking up the wrong image

- Relax. You're supposed to enjoy this too

As far as I'm aware, no. Unless you consider nicknaming myself to count for this, then probably after James from the pokemon anime, and

2. When was the last time you cried?

Several weeks ago when I told a homophobe to shut up and somehow not getting beaten up by him, and then later when I told my mum about that I also came out to her - tears of both fear and happiness

3. Do you have kids?

Nope. I'm not great parent material to be honest.

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?

I'm not really sure, I can't really tell sarcasm when I see it, that includes myself, so if you see me using the "/s" tone indicator know I'm rolling my dice there /gen

5. What sports do you play/have you played?

Chess and currently learning some of the tournament card games. These are sports no matter what you think qualifies as sport - football is also a game and yet it's counted as sport. Either way if that answer doesn't suffice, I was pretty big on basketball in middle school, and the boys bullied me for it in middle school. Then they realised that it's actually kinda fun, and I have fallen out of practice by that time, and grew to hate it like most other physical game-sports.

6. What’s the first thing you notice about other people?

Their linguistic quirks. Accents, regional words, peculiar mispronunciations, particular patterns of misspelling things.

7. What’s your eye color?

Deep brown, can't tell the exact shade. a mutual friend of Raya and I said once that I have "very loyal eyes" to compare them to the colour of brown dog eyes.

8. Scary movies or happy endings?

Happy endings. I want to see my blorbos happy. Although if "bittersweet" was an option here, I'd go for that.

9. Any special talents?

I don't consider myself talented in any particular way, but I know my friends would send me strongly worded PMs if I gave that as my answer, so I'll say, what many of them always put at the forefront of the good stuff about me, "Good at learning languages", and personally I'd also say "Pattern recognition" (especially when it comes to languages)

10. Where were you born?

I had an ok week. I fixed some bugs and added a system to force-set filetypes.

You will be asked on update if you want to regenerate some animation thumbnails. The popup explains the decision, I recommend 'yes'.

The difference between a zip and an Ugoira and a cbz is not perfectly clear cut. I am happy with the current filetype scanner--and there are a couple more improvements this week--but I'm sure there will always be some fuzziness in the difficult cases. This also applies to some clever other situations, like files that secretly store a zip concatenated after a jpeg. You might want that file to be considered something other than hydrus thinks it technically is.

So, on any file selection, you can now hit right-click->manage->force filetype. You can set any file to be seen as any other file. The changes take affect immediately, are reflected in presentation and system:filetype searches, and the files themselves will be renamed on disk (to aid 'open externally'). The original filetype is remembered, and everything is easily undoable through the same dialog.

Also added is 'system:has forced filetype', under the 'system:file properties' entry, if you'd like to find what you have set one way or the other.

This is experimental, and I don't recommend it for the most casual users, but if you are comfortable, have a play with it. I still need to write better error handling for complete nonsense cases (e.g. calling a webm a krita is probably going to raise an error somewhere), but let me know how you get on.

other highlights

I fixed some dodgy numbers in Mr. Bones (deleted file count) and the file history chart (inbox/archive count). If you have had some whack results here, let me know if things are any better! If they aren't, does changing the search to something more specific than 'all my files'/'system:everything' improve things?

Some new boot errors, mostly related to missing database components, are now handled with nicer dialog prompts, and even interactive console prompts serverside.

I _may_ have fixed/relieved the 'program is hung when restored from minimise to system tray' issue, but I am not confident. If you still have this, let me know how things are now. If you still get a hang, more info on what your client was doing during the minimise would help--I just cannot reproduce this problem reliably.

Thanks to a user who figured out all the build script stuff, the Docker package is now Alpine 3.19. The Docker package should have newer libraries and broader file support.

birthday and year summary

The first non-experimental beta of hydrus was released on December 14th, 2011. We are now going on twelve years.

Like many, I had an imperfect 2023. I've no complaints, but IRL problems from 2022 cut into my free time and energy, and I regret that it impacted my hydrus work time. I had hoped to move some larger projects forward this year, but I was mostly treading water with little features and optimisations. That said, looking at the changelog for the year reveals good progress nonetheless, including: multiple duplicate search and filter speed and accuracy improvements, and the 'one file in this search, the other in this search' system; significant Client API expansions, in good part thanks to a user, including the duplicates system, more page inspections, multiple local file domains, and http headers; new sidecar datatypes and string processing tools; improvements to 'related tags' search; much better transparency support, including 'system:has transparency'; more program stability, particularly with mpv; much much faster tag autocomplete results, and faster tag and file search cancelling; the inc/dec rating service; better file timestamp awareness and full editing capability; the SauceNAO-style image search under 'system:similar files'; blurhashes; more and better system predicate parsing, and natural system predicate parsing in the normal file search input; a background database table delete system that relieves huge jobs like 'delete the PTR'; more accurate Mr. Bones and File History, and both windows now taking any search; and multiple new file formats, like HEIF and gzip and Krita, and thumbnails and full rendering for several like PSD and PDF, again in good part thanks to a user, and then most recently the Ugoira and CBZ work.

I'm truly looking forward to the new year, and I plan to keep working and putting out releases every week. I deeply appreciate the feedback and help over the years. Thank you!

I didn't mean to cause a panic; you're gonna be fine dude. We're all gonna be fine.

I rebranded because an old goal of mine was to respect canon as a story and try not to change major events too much. At the same time, I was VERY linient with the super editions, DOTC material, and was already making major changes with clan culture expansions and shifting POVs.

So now I'm putting emphasis on those changes. I'm dropping canon in a milkshake and drinking it with a silly straw. Fuck it. Get contorted.

Most rewrites and AUs are already very different, including yours. And you know why? Because canon is GARBAGE and this fandom is here because Warrior Cats as an IP is a playset. We like it for what it could be and less for what it really is.

These rewrites are fanfictions. They can't be "substituted for canon material" the way that the faithful animation of a series (complete with voice acting like Little Dragon Studios) could.

At the same time though this is a bad direction for Working Partners to go in. It's this today and who the fuck knows tomorrow.

It should have been obvious that a bunch of volunteers taking 2 years to make an animation of a 20 year old book was nothing but a good thing and boosted interest in their IP, and wouldn't detract from any attempts at official animations. Fanwork isn't a zero sum game with canon as has been proven over and over and over. Taking down Into The Wild Animated was just as stupid and destructive as going after SSS Warrior Cats.

Archive your things. Download your blog. AGAIN; do not panic, just be prepared. We are probably going to be fine. Just take some caution.

Be Good, Alright? by @smells-like-mettaton. Frisk stays with Toriel in the Ruins instead of leaving, and Flowey and Chara are there too. Ongoing and very cute. Contains some references to child abuse. You should probably just follow Tali on tumblr if you haven't already, Tali posts a ton of great stuff.

And Whither Then? I Cannot Say by ohjustdisarmalready on ao3. Frisk get launched across time and space and travels through several AU versions of the underground. This one focuses a lot on AUs like Underfell and the skeleton brothers are a huge part of it, but it's still fundamentally a story about Frisk, and the way they're written is REALLY good, they're such a good kid. Might want to avoid it if you don't want to see Frisk getting hurt though

rename the fallen human by brushstrokesApocalyptic on ao3. The fallen human can't decide on a name. This one is Chara-centric and it's classic. Really funny and sweet.

high score by @knifehecker. The three kids reflect on their time in the underground. This one takes place post-pacifist but it's primarily about the no mercy route. I really like the dynamic between the kids here, and the tone is both funny and poignant.

Risen Up (or, Of Fallen Children and Mountain Kin) by @riverpersonn. Frisk and the gang put on Undertale: the Musical! This one can get pretty intense and gets into Frisk's backstory and some violent routes, but overall it's a really touching story about them and their new family.

i still hesitate in the hopes i'll save some face by Princex_N on ao3. This is a series of snippets about autistic Frisk journeying through the underground. We love autistic Frisk in this house

Frisk Learns Some New Words by Rakkogaki on ao3. Despite the title this fic is actually more Sans-centric but it's the fic I was talking about a couple days ago where Sans goes several weeks without standing up by teleporting between different chairs. It's an absolute classic crack fic.

Floweytale by @andreabandrea. A series of fics about Flowey's resets before Frisk showed up. Absolutely essential reading for all Flowey fans. But watch out because you'll feel every emotion at once. Contains references to violent routes.

My Big Fat Fish Holiday Party also by andrea. You probably know this one if you follow me but if not you should check it out, it's everything to me. Ultimate crack fic.

All We Left Unsaid ALSO by andrea. Frisk ends a no mercy route while fighting Sans, and the underground rebuilds. This one is Flowey-centric, but there's a ton of side characters in it and it's really sweet and sad. If you like Flowey and Sans not trying to kill each other, this is a great example of that.

memeing across time and space by threefourthstime on ao3. Another classic crack fic, this one's about Gaster trying and failing to prank various characters.

If you like the kids I'd also rec a couple of ask blogs! There's @redsoul-kris which is a Deltarune ask blog that involves the Undertale kids in a certain way, and @dont-forget-to-ask which is for the post-paci Undertale kids. @friskibitz also sometimes writes really sweet ficlets about the UT/DR kids on his blog.

Oh lmao I'm friends with both of the two (2) people who have wrangled wrestling the past four or five years now, so I'm not 100% sure of all the policies this is just stuff I've seen them talking about. Before them, all wrestling was unwrangled, which led to a lot of mess and bloat that's not 100% fixed, and before that the person wrangling it made a lot of decisions that ended up not being very practical based on a very different idea of how this stuff should work, but became "policy" and is difficult to change now. I would ask one of them to weigh in but I don't really think either of them want the potential heat associated with people knowing they handle the ao3 tags for all of wrestling but I'll do my best:

Ao3 has very specific rules for when and how to canonize tags, and they fit wrestling extremely poorly. It's two people doing their best to apply a system that is designed for cataloguing and permanence to the unbelievably ephemeral world of wrestling.

They both have very much more than a passing familiarity with wrestling, but that's not to say anybody knows every wrestler. Neither of them follow WWE. They both know how to do research and will spend fic writer amounts of time looking up every wrestler they don't know.

Nothing is automated. Every tag has to be dealt with manually. There are also rules about how many tags they're supposed to change all at once to not overtax Ao3's servers, so it's a balancing act of when to do big renames. Every time a WWE wrestler, especially a big one like Saraya or Edge, goes to AEW, it's a nightmare for them.

It's not based on who uses a tag first and it really shouldn't be. Like think about it, how many people do you know who would use the | format for a tag that wasn't already there? Also, think about how often wrestlers change their names. Do you think no one is writing fic about Jon Moxley | Dean Ambrose and using the names interchangeably on the same dude? Do you think those fic should all be kept 100% separate based on which name they used? How about Io Shirai | Iyo Sky, are those separate characters who shouldn't be findable in the same search?

Canonization is based on Rule of 3. Something is up for canonization once it has 3 uses, I think it has to be 3 separate uses I don't remember the exact details. Then, once canonized...

Synonymisation (synning) is when two tags are linked as, well, synonymous. This is the purpose of canonization, is having a canonical tag to syn them to, because the intent is that someone searching for one character can go to that canonical tag and find all of the works relevant to that search. So go ahead and use whatever tag for whoever you want, it'll get synned to the wrestler's canonical, that's the important part. Bc of the way Ao3 is set up it only recommends canonicals to you while you're filling them in but very few people actually write their tags like that.

Again bc wrestling is such a unique beast there isn't a hard and fast rule as to how that should be done. They're doing their best to sort through a combination of what is the nature of the characters vs how are people using the names.

Neither of them really loves the way wholly different characters played by the same wrestler get synned, but the precedent was established before them that they should be and there's significant enough writing for most examples like that that does treat them like the same person that they kind of have to go with that.

To specifically respond to the examples above, Swerve Strickland & Isaiah Scott are the same dude. Like that's one character. There's also a significant chance anybody searching his old NXT name would still want to see Swerve stuff too, or that people searching Swerve could be interested in the old fic that never originally got tagged that. So they get synned, even though probably everyone writing fic about him now just uses Swerve. Killshot probably doesn't have enough usage to warrant his own canonical, and also ambiguously is or is not kind of Swerve, so it probably got wrapped in and updated when the Swerve tag was canonized, but didn't have enough usage to just stay as Killshot. The Chuck Taylor one you're free to use but it would never get canonized because a) it's too long and b) nobody is using most of those names. It would get synned to the Chuck Taylor tag. Luchasaurus is not synned to Austin Matelson, I checked, it's synned to Judas Devlin, which was his name on the indies & in FCW pre-Luchasaurus. My guess would be there were tags used pre-AEW that included it and/or there's enough fic about him where they call him that that it warranted inclusion even if like 99% of the time it's just Luchasaurus.

Also it's two people with other stuff going on they just make honest mistakes sometimes.

Anyway I hope that helps, I may have some of the details a bit off bc I don't work on it myself I've just seen them talking about it like I said. If it really bugs you you're free to volunteer with ao3, anyone can and they need the help.

I love the way wrestlers gimmicks get sorted on ao3 bc it ends up being up to the discretion of the first couple ppl who write them what tag ends up being common. Half of wrestlers arent even marked the same guy as their name on the indies but according to ao3 canon the 64 million yr old dinosaur IS the same guy as that one big brother contestant that had an affair on the show

Default Replacements - the basics

When you want some game item - object or clothing - to appear different from EA-version, you use a Default Replacement (DR). There are a couple of different ways to achieve this, and as I get many questions about this, I decided to make a post about it.

Why should you have an Override-folder?

If you want to use DR, an override-folder is a good idea to have. This means that you set up your Mods-folder to load the files in this folder first, before all other mods/cc.

A very simple setup can look like this, in your The Sims 4/Mods-folder:

The two important things here are the Overrides-folder and the resource.cfg file, besides that, you can have any folders you want. If you didn't organize your folders yet, you can start like this. (It is a very good idea to get organized). Your resource.cfg file should look like this, if you open it:

This means you can have more nestled folders in your Mods-folder, but it also gives you an overrides-folder.

Reminder: Never place script-mods deeper than one level.

(You can rename the Overrides-folder if you want, but then you also need to change the name in the Resource-folder accordingly.)

Here is a zip with a ready-made new Resources.cfg and also an Overrides-folder - unzip in your Mods-folder and overwrite your old Resources.cfg.

Now, place all your Default Replacement-files in the Overrides-folder. You can also place important mods here, especially those that for example override the UI.

YOU CAN ONLY HAVE ONE DEFAULT REPLACEMENT PER CLOTHING/OBJECT. If you you have more they will clash and game will probably load the original game-file.

OBJECTS

When you play a themed world, you don't need DR-objects in general - most often you just use CC-items, the normal way. But then there are some items, that are very annoying. The modern stuff that the game automatically loads, like the dinnerware, or the baby bassinets, and the like. I have made a lot of DR-objects, and I have also downloaded a lot of them. Place all these in the Overrides-folder. You can sort stuff in it, I have for example a folder called Baby with the baby-stuff. I would NOT have too many nested folders in the Overrides-folder, one level down is ok.

DR-objects are made with a hider included - they are actually cloned from the game-object and changed to look different. So no hiders needed.

CAS - uniforms

If you have tried my medieval NPC-uniforms, you probably know that they come (most of them) in 2 parts: the alternative uniform, and a hider.

Some are made the same way you replace objects, and then you don't need a hider. My replacement for Grimmy is made like that.

Place the DR-CAS items in the Overrides-folder.

I make my NPC-uniforms with adding tags to them, for example the Maid-tag for the Maid uniform. If you want to learn more about tagging clothing, I made a tutorial here.

Many CC-creators - especially early on - cloned CAS items happily unaware of the tagging. This is why you can have clothing in your CC-folders that clash with DR-uniforms - to correct this you can run the S4S batch fix on the CC-folder (NOT the overrides-folder :) ) to make everything marked "not for random". This will also remove any uniform- or style tags.

HIDERS

You can hide everything in CAS if you want. Find hiders for everything at these sites: Starbeary Sims Plumbobs & Cowplants

I put together special sets of hiders for the NPC-uniforms I made. Place your hiders in the Override-folder. Check so you have only one hider per item, or they will clash.

So, if you have everything in CAS already hidden, you don't need my NPC-hiders.

Checklist, if you have problems with the Default Replacements/Hiders to work: - Place them in the Overrides-folder

- Check for more than one DR per item or more than one hider

- If they still don't work, try them in a game folder with only the DR/hiders in. if they work without other mods in, you have something in your Mods-folder that stops them from working.
