20 Questions for Fic Writers

Thank you @failed221b-chill for tagging me!! I'm still such a little baby newbie fic writer but I'm eager for the chance to reflect and grow more.

How many works do you have on AO3? 2. Hoping to increase that soon!

What's your total AO3 word count? 2,285. Amazingly low compared to my huge chunkin longfic sitting tucked away, unpublished.

What fandoms do you write for? Mainly Final Fantasy VIII, but I've dabbled in Stardew Valley.

What are your top five fics by kudos? Top five, lol. Wellll one of my Laguna one-shots has 5 kudos! I'm pretty happy with that considering there are like 5 FFVIII fans out there!

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Absolutely! I want to talk about my fics all day!! That is, I have only received thoughtful, positive comments from lovely people so it's been easy so far.

What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? As of right now, They Are My Family is the angstiest ending I've ever written, though you might consider it a somewhat optimistic ending. In its very short word count, this fic deals with Laguna's immense loss and how he channels his grief into helping other people. I dearly enjoy writing angst, though, just usually with a happy ending.

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Grip on My Heart, my other posted Laguna one-shot, is a happy ending (though if you know FFVIII then you can probably see the angst between the lines). However, if I ever post my Stardew Valley longfic it's got a very sweet ending. I wrote that as a total escapist happy ending fantasy tale lol. And hey, I would even argue that my FFVIII longfic may actually have the happiest ending of all, simply because the angst that it took to get there makes it all the sweeter.

Do you get hate on your fic? Not yet, though I anticipate that I am not everyone's cup of tea, and I think I am okay with that. I would hope that people who comment would have the ability to be respectful about our disagreements. Alas, I know it doesn't always work that way.

Do you write smut? Indeed, I do! Nothing posted yet, and nothing too explicit. But yep! I've got little spicy bits peppered through all of my wips. It took me a while to be okay with writing sexy stuff but I wanted to explore that aspect of relationships. I don't think I could ever write straight porn, though.

Do you write crossovers? I have not considered a crossover, but there's still time! I'm not opposed to it, just haven't had any inspiration.

Have you ever had a fic stolen? I don't think so! That would be sad.

Have you ever had a fic translated? No but holy cow what an honor to one day be that important!

Have you ever co-written a fic? No, I've thought about the logistics of this and I'm not sure how much I'd like it, though I may be convinced otherwise one day. And like my bestie and beta @failed221b-chill pointed out, before finding each other the two of us practically wrote the same fic but with different characters and a different plot. Pretty incredible to see the themes I have been obsessing over told in a new way!!

What's your all-time favourite ship? Oh, how can I ever get enough of Squall and Rinoa? dreamy sigh

What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Ooh good question. I'm starting to doubt the validity of my unpublished Stardew Valley longfic. I think it has great potential, and I may go back and rewrite the entire thing, but it's just got a lot that needs work. I am pretty determined to finish my FFVIII longfic so that gets priority!

What's your writing strengths? Ahh, talking about my writing strengths is not one of my writing strengths. After reflecting on this for a hot minute, I think I can appreciate my growing ability to write in a way that is easy to understand. With practice and the help from @failed221b-chill I've gotten so much better at flow. I also have little moments of intrigue, imagery, and maybe a little bit of symbolism that I'm proud of. In general, I think my biggest strength is that I am learning quickly how to make all aspects of my writing better!

What's your writing weaknesses? I feel like I can't end a scene to save my life, but maybe I'm the only one who sees that in my writing! I also struggle with knowing when to dramatize a scene and when to leave it to exposition. For a while I thought that was just the problem with writing a longfic that spans over several years, but I found the same issue in writing one-shots. On a related note, I think I fall in the under-writer category. My rough drafts are usually about 1/4 of the size of the final product. I guess on reflection that's more of a strength: I can flesh things out appropriately during editing! Oh that's a nice discovery :)

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I'm not opposed to it, but I don't see it happening in anything I plan on writing! I'm simply not familiar enough with any other langues (RIP, my almost-fluency in French).

First fandom you wrote for? Probably either FFVIII or Harry Potter. I can't remember which came first! I know for a brief time I was all about that James and Lily ship lol

Favourite fic you've ever written? Definitely my FFVIII longfic wip. As far as published works go, They Are My Family is really something I'm proud to have put out in the world.

-Alear Louis C: More of his spying on people. That said his odd philosophy surrounding his weird habit is interesting at least.

-Framme Chloe B: Oh this is literally just a continuation of the previous support scene. Chloe’s excitement over the bizarre eel sandwich was pretty cute.

-Alear Celine C: T E A. Also a weird legend about a spirit that drives off interlopers from Firene Castle with tricks. That said, Celine’s dedication and love for the peaceful nature of her kingdom is pretty endearing.

-Alear Chloe C: Chloe’s watching Alear sleep @,@ She apparently does this a lot. She wants to sleep in Alear’s room lol.

-Sommie is apparently “tall as a loaf of bread,” and weighs “2 peaches”. Okay.

-Finally continuing the story!

-Sparkle hair thief. She’s very bad at hiding. Oh, fake tears lol. Alfred falls for it, Alear seems unsure.

-Oh no it’s another boobie character.

-”Hiya Papiya” Yunaka is very annoying.

-Yunaka had the Emblem Ring it seems.

-”Holy Brocc-oly” jesus christ she’s just annoying.

-Oh okay she’s less bad when she’s not faking being cheerful.

-Micaiah has arrived :D Two of the best Lords were among the earliest Emblems.

-Micaiah can grant the ability to use staves. Those things she was famous for using in Radiant Dawn :p

-Hmm, it seems the attack has to do damage to poison. Louis stonks continue to climb.

-Etie’s grown str on 4 consecutive levels roflmao.

-Okay Yunaka’s actually quite good gameplay-wise.

-Chloe got MVP again. She had Sigurd this time so she spent a lot of time flying around and sniping people.

-Pretty good fog of war map, and those are often bad. The map was better-built around it than Chapter 3 of Three Houses was.

-Micaiah got Yunaka to turn her whole life around. She always was pretty incredible :p

-Alfred actually improving a bit seeing through Yunaka.

-Oh, Yunaka’s voice actress is Laura Post, knew she sounded familiar.

There will be lots of abilities for 30 to reference his favorite number 8, so go crazy 30. Worrying been seeing lots of 4 and 9 which is unusual although I'm told 49 is a positive number. We might have to prepare ourselves for a fall, which is okay; remember card candy is still hard candy and we don't have much to rely on with our CP though we have far less p pictures than most. In the end we support our imaginary couple and trust their decisions.

Encouragingly the first post this morning I saw was of 88 and blueberries again - remember, Lei fans are called blueberries; so if they are be (real) then how cute, right?

The color scheme this time seems to be blue boy/ red girl which is Chinese couple colors (could also be sheep who is blue - hey we don't know). I AM doubtful that it is blue and green though -that's a serious stretch from the normally colorblind crew that can't tell pink from purple. It might reflect the possible direction of Amidst a Snowstorm since ZJM's cheering color is - you guessed it - PURPLE lol so blue and green or emojis for pool make more sense)

Why Momo Yaoyorozu would have been a more effective hero as a plus size woman.

Hello all, it’s time for a BNHA rant. A rant in my opinion that is long over due, and that my friends is on one of my favorite characters in the franchise. Momo Yaoyorozu AKA Creati.

Buckle up lads were in for a hefty analysis. (Note the read more) I promise it’s worth the read.

Now, we all know Class 1-A’s vice class rep and resident braniac Momo.

Just in case you’re new here or need a refresher, Momo’s Quirk is called Creation. The basic breakdown of her quirk is that her body uses the Lipids (fats) in her body to create any inorganic material of her choosing.

Now, there’s two key things to remember about her quirk.

First, her quirk requires her to use her physical body reserves in order to function

Second, she has to know how to make those matierals. From bottom to top. That means she has to not only have a design of what she wants in her head but the exact molecular compounds to create those objects as well.

Momo to her credit does this well. She’s been flushed out slightly enough to see various instances where she’s had to improve either on her knowledge of materials and compounds or her speed to achieve the full creation of an item. It’s something we see from her constantly in both the Manga and the Anime.

For example, the first time we are (formally) introduced to Momo’s quirk she creates a few items

A staff for herself, a sword for Jirou, a net to contain the thugs, a thick insulated blanket large enough to cover both her and Jirou, and finally the remembrance of her hero suit.

These items all together begin to wear Momo out as she’s left panting and even tells Jirou that she has a hard time creating such taxing objects on her body. This is stated to the audience the first time we see her in action. It takes her time, concentration, and most importantly her body’s lipid reserves.

This is the first time we see Momo wear herself rather thin. While this in itself is impressive and a great introduction into the character and her abilities and strategic wit in a battle, the rather more harmful implications are yet to be seen. This incident, while foreshadowing her later issues, does not compare to other instances later on the series.

There are three key issues with Momo as she is currently.

Her body/character design inherently limit her abilities as a hero.

The push for her to be a sexy hero/character is ultimately determinetal to her effectiveness as both a character and a hero.

Her intellect is not reflected by the way she operates as a hero. Instead, it is often negated for the sake of her design.

These points seem vague or over harped but I’ll go into detail about them. (Hang in there, this is well thought out and developed, I promise)

But before I get into the key issues and solutions, there’s a lot that’s absolutely fantastic about Momo.

Momo is a great character because she is more than the typical snobby rich girl trope. In fact, she’s not at all snobby. She is the most helpful, kind, and oblivious rich character I’ve ever seen. It’s part of her personality sure, but it’s not the only factor. It’s more or less just a gag for laughs between the other characters.

She is also relatable in the way she has self worth issues, different from Midoriya’s self worth issues. She was never (that were aware of) beaten down or belittled. Her issues sprouted from the way she was confident in her abilities, intellect, and quirk only to be thrown in the deepend UA.

Which idk about y’all, but honestly that shit hits home. If you were ever the smart-kid-who-learned-quickly-and-skated-through-school-only-to-be-out-of-your-depth-with-new-self-worth-issues-when-that-is-no-longer-the-case (or anything similar) than you catch my drift. So score for relatability.

Alas, onwards.

Let’s tackle the first problem.

The way she treats her body now is detrimental to her quirk usage long term.

I’ll explain,

Momo’s quirk functions relatively similar to another hero we are later introduced too, Fatgum.

Now I know what you’re already thinking,

“Bea! She’s supposed to be sexy! She’s supposed to be feminine! Her quirk burns it all so she can look like that! Fatgum has to only store it all!”

On some levels you’re right.

On most though, incredibly wrong.

Momo’s figure is one of the main (and slightly controversial) aspects of her character. I mean, look at her design versus Fatgum’s

See the key differences? I sure do.

Fatgum’s quirk is called Fat Absorbtion. Basically it grants Fatgum the ability to adhere any objects to his body and make them sink into his body fat upon contact with it. And/Or he can build and channel all of the fat in his body into one overpowered and energized punch or attack. (As seen in the overhaul arc) which leaves his body, you guessed it, deprecated and thin. Much like Momo’s, they both use their body’s fat as a tool whether through expelling it or storing it for later use.

I point this out because we see time and time again throughout the series where Momo pushed herself to the limit where she has to expel extraordinary amounts of her body to get the job done. But in reality she only makes a few larger objects. This compared to Fatgum who uses his fat reserves strategically and only in the toughest of battles does he push his body’s reserves to zero. Whereas Momo does this constantly. This is because of her inefficient way of treating her quirk and ultimately, her design.

Let’s discuss some prime examples:

In the training camp arc, Momo makes roughly 15-30 masks for all of Class B students, and half of Class A. Which in itself is a tall order. When we see her again, she’s bloodied, exhausted, barely conscious, worn, and welded to Awase half alive. She even struggles as she makes the tiny tracker she places on the back of the Nomu. After this, in the hospital (pre Kamino rescue) she was unconscious for a day and half due to quirk overuse and dehydration.

Third, in the first movie, My Hero Academia: Two Heroes, we once again see Momo’s fatal flaw as she and a group of Class 1-A students race through the security tower on I-island. She uses her quirk to make cannons of course, a Momo signature, to fend off the security bots fairly early on in the battle. As she continues to make ammo and other items needed to win the battle Momo teeters on the brink of passing out from, you guessed it, dehydration and starvation. Jirou ends up catching Momo as she’s nearly passes out from the lack of fat/substance in her body after making the cannon and ammo.

Then we see the same issue in the second movie My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising. Where Momo is used both to create extra supplies on the island. She passes out after that alone and only wakes up later as the class is regrouping after four villains attack simultaneously. Even after rest and food, we see her later again to make two massive cannons as the first line of defense against the incoming villains. From the start of the second battle Momo is worn out and clearly lacking in lipids to participate fully in a fight. Here, she even keels over and says that she’s at her limit and looks like she’s on the brink of death via dehydration and starvation. Which she very much is.

We also so see this in Provisonal Licensing Exam arc when Momo, Tsu, Jirou, and Shoji are trapped together by a group from another school. Here this is important because the leader of that group has super intelligence granted to her by her quirk (and tea lol) has come up with a “fool proof” plan to beat the group. The bottom line of that plan is simple. Wear. Momo. Out. Which half way works too, until Momo figures out what the other group is trying to do and thinks her way out of that situation. Although, she does use up a decent amount of her body’s reserves before she figures out their plan.

^^^ this scene brings up an extremely concerning point. If a villain knows what her quirk is, and has i don’t know, seen her, then they’re going to do the exact same thing Saiko (the girl in the photo above from the licensing exam arc) attempted to do. Exhaust Momo’s resources.

Now, this has been brought up once in the actual show. During the training camp arc, we see each students training method (designed by Aizawa) in order to overwork and strengthen their quirks. For Momo, that looked like binge eating and creating simultaneously.

This also shows us that Aizawa is at least somewhat paying attention to the drawbacks of her quirk. He may not have been there for some of the more concerning times she’s over worked herself, but it’s not a hard thing to work out just by how she looks and how her quirk functions. He also sees how her speed with her quirk hindered her like in her battle against Tokoyami. However, this is the only time we see this. Plus, this is not nearly enough of solution to the problem. Which in all honesty is simple.

For all intensive purposes, Momo should be a Plus Sized woman.

Not just for diversity or validity of readers. Although it would have been a score for the plus size community since it’s always lacking here for us bad bitches but because it would have been more natural to her character. If she had a bulkier physique or even just a chubbier build she would be way more effective in a battle or even just as a hero.

Her quirk burns the fat in her body instantly while in use. Which means she needs to have a healthy reserve of it at all times, especially since I’m willing to bet her metabolism is crazy fast. Relying on the normal/average caloric intake is irrational for her quirks functionality. Her diet should look more like Fatgum’s where we see him constantly eating in order to fuel his quirk. At the very least, Momo needs to always have foods dense in fats on hand in case she’s in a dire situation where she’s running low on reserves. She would be much more effective that way. I cannot tell you the amount of times I’ve watched a scene where she’s wearing herself out and been exasperated by the fact that she didn’t have even a simple granola bar on her for emergencies.

Hear me out,

Plus size people are extremely capable of doing extraordinary things. As well as also being fit while still having a larger/healthier frame. It’s not all that uncommon. In fact, it’s something that fictional storytelling (an ex machina if you will) isn’t needed in order to cover the realistic applications. There are plenty of people in the word who are of a larger build and are also active, fit, and in overall good health standing.

In real life, Ashley Graham is an excellent example. For those who aren’t privy to this goddess, she’s a plus size model, mother, and fitness enthusiast.

Here’s just a taste of this wonderful goddesses workouts can look like:

Which brings me to my next point

The need for Momo to be sexy is detrimental to her effectiveness as both a hero and as a character.

I know, I know, half of Momo’s whole thing is being sexy, rich, and oblivious. I’m well aware.

But here’s a fun tidbit. Plus size women can be sexy too! Shocker I know! Sarcasm aside, having Momo be a plus size woman wouldn’t hinder her sex appeal if done correctly. In fact, I think it would only make her more appealing, marketable, and effective narratively.

Not that she really needs to be sexy at all, but we will swing back to that.

Remember Ashley Graham? The model I mentioned like a paragraph ago? Well, she’s an example that plus size women can be just as sexy/attractive as anyone else. Which only proves that Momo could still have been an attractive character even as a plus size woman. In fact, it would have been uplifting to see a plus size character who’s whole gag isn’t revolved around them losing weight to fit a societal goal, but instead a character who is plus sized, healthy, and proud. Who utilizes her body in a positive manner. I mean imagine the marketablility to younger audiences! If you still don’t believe me that a plus size woman can still be attractive and show skin like Momo would ultimately have to do in order to use her quirk, check out Ashley motherfuckin Graham doing just that

No matter how they would have gone on to design her as a plus size character, she could have still been stunning. Even if they kept her in the same costume design! Which is garbage but that’s a tangent for another time

But beyond equality and all that good stuff:

Momo being a plus size woman would mean she would have more ability for long term endurance in a battle. As it stands now, Momo taps out of a battle fairly fast. She’s tends to make one larger item and then she’s tapped. Which is highly inefficient in a battle. If anything it seems to be on par with how Midoriya’s quirk affected him in the beginning of the series. He had to sacrifice a part of his body in order to land an effective attack. Sound familiar? Well yeah. Because Momo does the same thing with Creation and she’s had it for years.

Each time Momo over uses her quirk, she’s left on the brink of passing out, if she hadn’t already, leaving her vulnerable and useless in the field alone. Each time she’s pushed herself past her limit she’s had her classmates to catch her when she falls. That’s not practical. Aizawa said it himself in the quirk apprehension test way back in chapter 6 of the manga.

So why is Momo considered differently? Why doesn’t Aizawa say something? Simple. He’s typically not around for these occurrences.

Momo doesn’t have to over use her quirk in simulations. She only does that when there’s real stakes and people on the line. The issue with that is that once she leaves UA, the stakes will always be real, all the time. Isn’t now the best time to nip this issue in the bud? I think so. But also I understand how Aizawa either hasn’t fully caught on, or hasn’t dealt with it. I mean, between villain attacks and our main character constantly almost killing himself recklessly in battle, he’s got a lot on his plate.

The other issue with her “sexy” design is that it negates from her overall character. In all official art we see for BNHA we see Momo typically left out, or hypersexualized. This detracts from her substance of being intelligent and creative. She’s often the butt of the joke when it comes to Mineta’s perverted jokes/schemes as well. Between the cheerleader outfits incident and the locker room scene Momo is constantly written off. Whereas Midnight, a pro hero and teacher at UA, who is known for her sexiness and uses it as her brand, uses her sexuality effectively without diminishing her actual worth as a hero or teacher. But then again Midnight is an adult, who is branded as the 18+ hero. Momo is a student and minor. But y’all still aren’t ready for that conversation yet.

Which brings me to the final point of this long winded rant. (Thanks if you’ve stuck around this long! We’re almost done! Follow me if you don’t already. I write stuff, paint stuff, and theorize/analyze stuff for bnha)

The way Momo is now, Discounts/Negates her supposed intellect

As I’ve mentioned already in this rant, how Momo operates now isn’t working out so well on her favor.

But that doesn’t really make sense considering she’s so fucking intelligent. I mean she’s literally top of the class academically. There is no reason for her to be so brilliant and also so bullheaded in her own quirk use. She shows us time and time again that she has brain power. Her quirk requires she be extremely intelligent in order to comprehend and apply molecular compounds in order to even sort of correctly use her quirk.

So it makes no sense that such simple solutions evade her constantly. Like I find it extremely hard to believe that Momo has never thought, “hmm I’m on the brink of death, maybe I should have eaten more” or “the last few battles left me weak, maybe I should find a solution or ask a teacher,” or even “man, my endurance isn’t all that great. I should work on that,” like anything along those lines would lead her intelligent brain to the conclusion that since whatever caloric intake she’s doing now is far to easy to burn through and perhaps the simple solution is to gain more fatty mass.

It honestly discounts Momo as a character if she’s constantly breaking down when such a simple solution is available to her. Plus on a more lighthearted note, it would be kind of great for Momo to be old money rich and plus sized. I mean it would be kind of ironically hilarious in my opinion.

Okay Bea, so what’s the point?

The point my friends is that female characters can be so much more. Especially Momo. There is always an opportunity for characters like Momo and Ochako (who’ll I’ll be breaking down next/soon) to have more substanse and impact to them than just being the second line of defense sexy characters.

Even in the actual universe that is BNHA, Momo as a hero student has far more potential than she is currently operating at.

Now, don’t get me wrong I understand that Horikoshi has a plateful of characters to deal with and Momo is probably on the bottom of the list, but it doesn’t mean we can’t imagine more for her. Because honestly it doesn’t even really matter if she changes for the better or not in canon, it’s the idea that there’s a character out there who all people can relate to whether it be average watchers/readers, plus size hopefuls, people with insecurities, readers/viewers who just like her quirk/design, or someone like me who saw a character and gravitated to the mostly relatable way she was written.

I love Momo as a character truly, she’s one of my favorites and I heavily associate with her. (Shocker I know, I mean she’s literally my icon that I painted myself) I am in no way tearing the character, franchise, or Horikoshi down. I am just observing what could have been (or could be but probably not) and pointing it out. So that maybe, just maybe, in the future there will be more characters who others can relate too. Other characters who are used at their full inspirational potential. But also, to point out some things that not only round out perspective on a character, but maybe even highlight how worth it it can be to look deeper into a characters through analysis. Hopefully I’ve done at least one of those things through this long post.

One Brain Cell Theories: Chapter 17 & 18

There are a few things that may confirm my suspicions and the new chapters have reinforced it. 

SPOILERS AHEAD, please click at your own risk and any input/more theories are welcome! I’m going to try and make this a series. 

This is also a relatively long read so grab some snacks! We diving in boys!!

(This is one of my many theories. One day, I’ll be able to write down what’s happening in my head.) 

TLDR; HUNNY we have to talk about the other human 

A few things to remember before I dive in: 

Solomon has a pact with Barbatos. Solomon has a ring of wisdom and is known to make a pact with larger and more powerful demons. We all know he lowkey wants a pact with Lucifer. 

Lucifer told us not to trust Solomon in Chapter 2 

There’s a possibility Barbatos has tried to poison us with tea, a Mandragora blend. Mandragora has the potential to be fatal, one of the most notable symptoms are hyperactivity and hallucinations. 

When Barbatos sent us back in time, we found out he is extremely OP. He even has the power to look into the past and future. 

Okay now onwards to the only viable explanation I can think of: Barbatos and Solomon are scheming a takeover. (or this really is a messed up “prove yourself” challenge from Diavolo) 

Let’s begin to when shit started to get real. 

A sorta shortened (?) recap of everything that has happened thus far, please feel free to skip if you don’t need it:  

After almost confessing your love to Lucifer and dying in the process Belphie comes down the stairs and its the big reveal, everyone essentially gasps in shock. Beel, Belph, and MC run away to Luke’s joint only to get busted by Dia & Barbatos and they drag away Belphie to throw him in jail for treason (and its implied he gon’ die). Lost and afraid, Beel and MC run back to the House of Lamentation. There we have a really heartfelt scene with all the demon boys and we are determined to storm into Dia’s castle and solve the situation. 

Arriving at Dia’s castle, the pair say they were expecting us. Lucifer stood up to Diavolo & he says please, LOUD AUDIENCE GASP. No matter how much we try to reason, the only way Belphie will be released is if MC goes back into the past alone and figure out who actually opening Belphie’s door. No reason is truly given to this. Diavolo explains that Barbatos has multiple abilities, some of this includes viewing the past & future and, most importantly, time travel. 

As we continue to Barbatos’ room, he is super happy (and creepy) but gives us a very dire warning - do not interact with the past in any way or it will alternate the current timeline. This includes speaking to anyone or being involved in any type of action. If we want to come back to the present, we have to go through the same door that we end up entering through. Then off we go and we land in the middle of Mammon’s room with ALL OF THE BROTHERS sans Lucifer and Belphie. And things go haywire.

As we are running to go up to the attic, we are forced to hide in Lilith’s room, where we have a flashback (or hallucination) of playing hide and seek. Flashback Levi reminds us to go find Belphie. During this time, it is revealed that MC may have been the one to open Belphie’s door and tldr; Belphie kills MC. 

As we lay dying, we are somehow saved by Lilith (our long lost aunt twice removed apparently) and we are outside of our own body...in another one. Dia and Barbatos stroll in saying they knew this would happen & Barbatos did us a favor and revived us using an alternate timeline MC (what). Everyone is pumped we have like 1/10,000,000 genes related to human Lillith and this is their closure. 

Everything seems to be looking up and MC patches things up between Belphie and the other brothers. They throw her a joint party with Diavolo’s birthday party & give her the sweetest gifts. At the end of Chapter 18, Belphie creates a pact with MC. 

This is all fine and dandy but...is it really? 

A few things really popped out during these two recent chapters: 

Belphie is by our side the entire two chapters. Whether this is supposed to signify a new start or something else, it isn’t entirely clear.

Beel and Belph are the only ones that text us during this time. Belphie texts us after every chapter moment. 

Solomon runs into Belph and MC while shopping, randomly asking Belph if he plans on making a pact with MC. Then brazenly offers to make a pact with him instead. Belph refuses vehemently but looks at MC for a reaction. Solomon notices this. 

As Belph gives us a gift of himself (lol same), he mentions how he’s doing this for us and not because of Lilith. 

In the game itself, there’s a completely different game style. MC has more options to speak and the dialogue options have become more brazen. Almost as if...this is a different personality (or could signify MC is more comfortable with them in general). It felt off playing the last two chapters though, for me at least. 

Now onwards to the theory: Solomon is our main antagonist.

In Chapter 2, we are formally introduced to Solomon, the other exchange student. Although the interaction is rushed, we can sense out two things: he’s insanely smart and he’s already comfortable around demons. As he runs off to class, MC runs into Lucifer and we learn a bit more about this mystery boy. 

Apparently, Solomon is a wizard and has a ring of wisdom, which makes him incredibly dangerous. He has pacts with more than 70 demons (I think the exact number was 78 but I might be wrong). Among these demons are Asmodeus and Barbatos. At the end of Lucifer’s explanation, he adds that MC shouldn’t trust Solomon. 

Historically and culturally, Solomon is most known as the “Wise King.” He is also regarded as a fantastical figure, someone who is known to have powers over both angels and demons. 

“According to the Rabbinical literature, on account of his modest request for wisdom only, Solomon was rewarded with riches and an unprecedented glorious realm, which extended over the upper world inhabited by the angels and over the whole of the terrestrial globe with all its inhabitants, including all the beasts, fowl, and reptiles, as well as the demons and spirits. His control over the demons, spirits, and animals augmented his splendor, the demons bringing him precious stones, besides water from distant countries to irrigate his exotic plants. The beasts and fowl of their own accord entered the kitchen of Solomon's palace, so that they might be used as food for him, and extravagant meals for him were prepared daily by each of his 700 wives and 300 concubines, with the thought that perhaps the king would feast that day in her house.” 

Additionally, he was given a ring, known as the “Seal of Solomon,” which gave him the ability to trap demons under his control. 

A magic ring called the "Seal of Solomon" was supposedly given to Solomon and gave him power over demons or Jinn. The magical symbol said to have been on the Seal of Solomon which made it efficacious is often considered to be the Star of David. Asmodeus, king of demons, was one day, according to the classical Rabbis, captured by Benaiah (my note: Benaiah is a human, he was a soldier that helped Solomon rise to power) using the ring, and was forced to remain in Solomon's service. The Seal of Solomon, in some legends known as the Ring of Aandaleeb, was a highly sought after symbol of power. In several legends, different groups or individuals attempted to steal it or attain it in some manner.

And this is a potential plot in our story.

MC is, of course, the main protagonist of the story. We typically are. But there was never a clear antagonist. Or maybe he was playing along with our situation, a wolf in sheep's clothing? 

We all know Levi’s strangely long anime names are a strange foreshadowing of the future. We have: 

Though all titles seem to have a connection with our current plot, I’m going to focus on the first one, which seems to have the most implications regarding our current situation. I also have a sneaking suspicion that the second image with the two titles might be a backstory for Barbatos but that’s another story that I cannot fully prove yet. The third title also refers to a legend regarding Asmo and Solomon.

The first title seems...has quite obvious implications when recounting the events of chapters 15 - 18. Halfway through our journey, here we are, thrust into an alternate timeline, alone and scared but we end up making a pact with...our sixth demon? And this isn’t just a regular demon, this is one of the deadly sins. So now we have 6/7 demon brothers under our power, some of the most powerful demons in Devildom. It’s alarming how quickly MC is able to gain the trust of these demons, effectively creating pacts in the course of...maybe a few months? 

What alarms me the most is how fast Belphie turned from, quite literally, killing us to making a pact with us in a course of 3 chapters. This brings me to my first suspicion in SoloBarb’s plot: This timeline is the only timeline where MC is able to make a pact with Belphie. All other timelines do not reflect this. This placement was 100% intentional from the start. 

It is a known fact that Barbatos is able to view time and its events. It’s revealed this extends to alternate timelines when saving MC. If he is this powerful, wouldn’t he be able to simply look back in the past and find out who opened Belph’s door without the need for MC? This would be the easiest and most direct solution. 

SIDENOTE: Keep in mind, part of the reason Barbatos could not stop the Belphie situation from happening is due to Diavolo’s restriction. Barbatos states that “Diavolo has forbidden him from using his powers freely.” HOWEVER, it then leads to the question: who really has the most control over Barbatos, Diavolo or Solomon? Traditionally, when pacts are made, it means that the demon is completely under the control of the individual but does it outweigh an authority figure? In my opinion, Solomon technically has the most power fo Barbatos. Solomon’s pact with Barbatos = a magically restrictive bond while Diavolo’s rule over Barbatos = a matter of respect of authority. There is no physically restrictive bond Diavolo has on Barbatos.

Also considering how cunning Solomon is, he could have easily manipulated Diavolo into this entire plan as well.

In addition, Solomon’s strangely direct question, asking Belphie if he was going to make a pact with MC, was alarming. It was as if he was proving his own theory: the demon brothers will make a pact with MC and never him. He seemed almost satisfied with this answer and didn’t seem to protest against it too much. Couple this with Solomon’s constant approval when MC makes pacts with the demon brothers during her stay, its...disconcerting. 

Omg he even says “If you change your mind” what kind of creepy

If we consider all of this, it truly does seem as if Solomon is our potential antagonist. It seems to me that everything is pointing at him. He’s quiet enough for us to overlook and disregard as a side character, though he seems to have a certain unnerving edge to him. My god, the demons are even wary of him. If that wasn’t the biggest tip-off, idk what is. 

Also physically, we have yet to hear his entire backstory in the game or have a chapter dedicated to him. So far, in terms of side characters, we have ample interaction with Diavolo and Luke (still waiting on Simeon) but no deep dives into Solomon and Barbatos. (Which means >.> we’ll get them in later chapters) 

This brings me to the next question: so how is MC a chess piece in his plot? 

Hey, remember that RANDOM moment Solomon lent out his power during Diavolo’s house party. AND NO ONE QUESTIONED IT. Honestly, what the hell was that all about?

In regards to this, why did he do this? Some answers include: he did it for shits and giggles, he wanted to test out the theory of us having powerful magic in our bloodline, or he wanted a test run. Yeah. You heard me. A test run. 

Prior to this, MC was unable to truly summon a demon on their own. The most she could do was give out a pretty strong verbal command and the demon (Mammon lol) must carry it out. However, MC cannot fully utilize the pact’s potential due to her lack of innate magic ability. 

This is both an affirmation and leverage for Solomon’s situation. On one end, it’s confirmed that MC has huge magic potential and can properly use it when needed. On the other end, this can be a bargaining tool for the future...

Which could lead to a large plot development: Once MC gains all seven pacts (c’mon, it is going to be impossible to not make a pact with Lucifer), what will they use it for? 

MY PREDICTION: Solomon will attempt to manipulate MC into his control. Magic is powerful in this game but so are humans. A human was the reason Lilith was going to be punished by God. Solomon, a human, has power and control over 70+ demons. Belphegor was set on destroying only the human world. MC has pacts with the, arguably, the strongest demons in Devildom who are also formerly fallen angels. 

From what I’ve seen so far, nothing is more powerful than a pact. And nothing is more powerful than human manipulation. 

What will he use MC’s powers for? ...I have a sneaking feeling it might be to overthrow Diavolo based on Solomon’s cultural legend. Solomon famously has power over Asmo, the king of demons. Of course, we know the Asmo in our game is not the king but Diavolo is. Obey me! has a funny way of interpreting these legends in a unique way. Who knows if they split up Asmo into two different entities. 

but who tf really knows what’s going on

BUT

I guess we’ll have to see what happens in later chapters. Of course, this is all really a far fetch theory but there seem to be so many underlying connections to Solomon in the game. I mean ffs, he’s the only other human here and he’s SOLOMON. The very character itself is so suspicious. 

THIS ENTIRE THING COULD ALSO BE A MESSED UP CHALLENGE FROM DIAVOLO 

OR SOME CRAZY HALLUCINATION CAUSED BY BARBATOS GIVING US THAT SUS TEA BLEND

But tbh who really knows what’s happening. The only confirmed thing is that we’re still on this alternate timeline (that MC totally messed up) and we haven’t returned to our OG timeline. lucifer please pick me up I’m scared

there it is! kama interlude analysis by a kama fan!

WELL. LIKE IT SAYS IN THE TITLE: this is just my own thoughts!! youre free to think whatever u want !! i am just putting my own knowledge into words because i genuinely love kama, and i would like for kama’s depth to be understood by the NA fandom a little more!! i try to stay as close as possible to their character in everything i do because i believe that the more in character they are, the funnier/more interesting content ppl will produce. 

and hopefully i understood them well ???!!!! HOPEFULLY ?!

i will be screenshotting the translated reddit post under this read more and stop whenever something i find interesting to develop pops up ! or else it’ll get way too long lol if you wanna read the interlude for yourself heres the link!

with that said, let’s go!!

kama’s interlude begins with guda passing the hell out because of exhaustion and then waking up in a dream sequence where kama treats them to some relaxing adventures, stuff to take their mind off heavy things!! first dream sequence is kama roleplaying a highschool setting where they’re dating.

i like this because they openly admit that its an illusion, breaking the immersion but as long as youre okay with roleplaying, they’ll continue it LOL  at some point, caesar mentions the student council president and arjuna appears behind him 

since this is an illusion that kama made, i’ve been wondering about the fact that the way servants conduct eachother in this interlude is mostly because that’s how kama envisions they would act in a highschool setting, in an amusement park and finally with eachother (mostly for confirmed couples such as siegbryn, consort yu and her hubby etc...). suzuka and sei being gyarus is obvious, but arjuna as the student council president... is so cute???!!! i MEAN IT FITS ?! THATS A GREAT IDEA KAMA!!!! ANYWAY

this is kama’s first monologue and since they’re primarily the god of lust, all of the more vanilla stuff they mentions such as sharing a pair of headphones embarrasses them since its so tame. ITS CUTE !!! kama expects you to be horny in class !! what are you doing thinking about hand holding !!! medusa saves u from that tho with a direct reference to her relationship with kama’s vessel 

this is interesting !! and reassuring !!! i think that kama as a character has a lot of depth and just reducing them to “sakura” would be a waste and this interlude shows how different they are from her. but they’re also similar! sakura went through a lot just like medusa says and kama does have trauma related to shiva. its not the same circumstances but the same kind of suffering which explains the nuance here. and what i like about chaldea is that there’s been multiple instances where its been proven that servants can grow thanks to their relationships with guda (most common example: leveling up your bonds) BUT ALSO, saint graph evolution (alts). and as a kama fan i’d like to see them happy someday and this interlude as a whole is proof of their healing/coping because of the time they spent in chaldea and how they interact with others. more on that later ! here, they don’t recognize medusa which is normal since they’re not sakura (someone else entierly), but...

they care about her ! because of sakura’s influence being a part of the servant called Kama(assassin). the difference here is important !! but i’ll come back on this in a bit. quick mention to the greek cupid <3 kamadusa nation we were fed (i clap by myself because im the only one who has 57575757557 kama rarepairs-----)

kama is a delinquent whos horny in class but still takes a few notes, enough to do well on their tests! and thats tea<3 smart horny lazyass !! theyre a gift

SO ARJUNA WAS OUT FOR BLOOD ????? ANYWAY, this is right after the actual fight against weirdo terrorists, and im happy to know that kama DOES enjoy a good fight (as proven in their voicelines as well) but theyre not a farming unit because it’d be too much work (single target NP..)...!!!!!!! lavish god of love.... 

FINALLYYYYYYYYYYY THE REAL DEAL !!!!!!!!!!!! “it feels wonderful to be your girlfriend” christ, kamadeva was so used to being a husband and a good lover, it reflected in their servant version.... but ree what do u mean by servant version???

I MEAN THE OBVIOUS !! kama explains it very well in the screenie just above ! 

“You know very well how servants work.”

KAMA ASSASSIN (the servant in your chaldea) is neither KAMADEVA or SAKURA MATOU or MARA. they’re a MIX OF PARTS OF THE THREE. creating an entierly new person(in this case, servant) !!!! it might sound like i’m repeating myself, but this is important!!!!!!!!! i will say this multiple times so people remember it !!! and if u already had this figured out: GOOD JOB I LOVE U !!!

Kamadeva (the god) has many stories, ones where he was born from concepts (dharma and shraddha), one where his parents are brahma and sarasvati, one where his parents are vishnu and lakshmi, stories about his reincarnation after his death where his parents are krishna and rukmini, his love with Rati and so on. We all know Sakura’s backstory since this is nasuverse. And Mara is a demon, an entity that tried to corrupt Buddha and prevent him from reaching enlightenment/stray from the path. Kama assassin has parts from all of these entities which explains why they have a vague longing for Rati, why they have a soft spot for Medusa and why they have an affinity with Kiara(and also like talking about corrupting u !). 

they then mention how a japanese highschool setting is fun and all i have to say is: i’m gonna make an indo fam delinquent vs student council au out of this one folks !!!!!!!! i gotta !!! 

OK next

TIME FOR THE SECOND DREAM SEQUENCE WHICH I WAS VERY VERY VERRRRRRRRRRYYYYYYYYYYYYY AFRAID OF BEFORE THE TRANSLATION CAME OUT.

THE PART WHERE KAMA ACTS LIKE YOUR CHILD.

well with their stage 1 it was expected but without the translation i have to say that i was scared shitless! because people hate thinking! and even if kama clearly tells you that it’s a charade, u know a JOKE. A DREAM SEQUENCE. DONT BE A CREEP. KAMA INTENDED FOR IT TO BE WHOLESOME. i know some ppl wont use their brains. but u know its fgo and degenerates are everywhere. 

anyways. family bonding time ensues until another monologue appears!!

exactly like before, kama mentions myths that belonged to kamadeva. Meaning that the Kama in our chaldea isn’t the Kamadeva we know and is not Pradyumna either but the fact that the writers chose to have kama acknowledge it is very reassuring !!! Because it means that they’ve chosen to make it a part of their (complicated) history. Kama says that Pradyumna is the myth about themself they know the least, once again proving us that the Kama in our Chaldea (Assassin) is a different entity and that they were summoned to the throne upon their death, the moment they were burned by Shiva’s flames and became Ananga, in any case they’re still familiar with all of their own myths. it allows us to keep heroic spirits separate from their original myths. ANYWAYS kama mentions “eternal pain that turns [them] into ash” being their key element. Their trauma is at the center of their heroic spirit self, what they are as a servant. This suffering is tied to everything they do, why they’re so lazy, why they’re so lax, why they’re so detached from their job.  But they’re not detached from their role. And “job” and “role” have different connotations here. They refuse to work as a cupid because of obvious reasons. BUT. They’re not detached from their role as the God of Love, as the God of Passion. The embodiment of those feelings. This whole interlude is proof ! They’re giving u free therapy because they Love you. Passion. They feel your love. Passion. They acknowledge how much fun you’re having. How passionate you are about certain things. They might seem extremely detached and hateful, but they aren’t. They’re one of the most empathetic servants there is. And their ability to love everything, even the things they hate is what makes them so miserable. Because it’s a part of them. Because the concept of Kama in hinduism is linked to them. Be it lust or simply the passion born from anything you do where you’re enjoying yourself. ... I’d like to say that this contrast with Mara is interesting. And that i’m glad the writers chose to add in Mara to the kama assassin Beast mix. 

Because the anger Mara feels can become a drivepoint for Kama. I’ve always believed that anger and sadness are two sides of the same coin, it’d explain how layered Kama is and how valid their emotions are. Constantly torn between love and hate. An eternal grudge (i don’t deserve to be hurt like this) and an eternal misery(maybe i do deserve to be hurt like this).

Everytime u summon a servant in ur chaldea u give them a chance to have fun with you, to have fun with other servants, to make amends, to start from scratch, to discover things they would’ve never known in their time (movies, video games, tons of different foods etc...), u give them a chance to relax. to grow !! this is the headcanon that im most attached to and im glad to see it be confirmed in the interlude of a character i love tbqh i had to stop and talk about that.

Vivi or Rebecca? Vivi's arc throughout Alabasta made her one of my favorite characters pre-timeskip, and I'm so eager to get back to the Reverie so I can find out how she's doing.

One Piece or BNHA? BNHA's great but I have to turn my brain off and stop overanalyzing every little thing so I can enjoy it. One Piece also fulfills my inner lore whore a LOT, so there's bias there as well lol. Also I'm still salty about Jin being killed and haven't had as much time to be sad and buttmad about it like I did with Ace.

Chocolate or Caramel? AAAAAA I CAN'T DECIDE. I'm more inclined to choose caramel over chocolate, but you haven't lived until you've eaten a vanilla-caramel swirl ice cream dipped in chocolate.

Pineapples on pizza or without pineapples? I respect people's differing tastes, and pineapple-pizza fans have every right to eat their concoction a million miles away from my pizza. To me the pineapple-pizza combo tastes like vomit to me, lol

Cats or dogs? I have more experience with dogs, so I'm inclined to pick dogs. Cats are just as affectionate and sweet as dogs, just in a different way lol. Plus I associate bad experiences with the smell of litter boxes, even if they're clean.

Disney world or Orlando studios? I've spend literal decades going to Disney World, and while I love Orlando Studios, most of my favorite rides are from their previous eras and are no longer around. The Simpsons area and Wizarding World areas though are fantastically built, and I could spend all day at JUST those two locations.

Kenpachi or Byakuya? FFFFUCK WHY WOULD YOU MAKE ME CHOOSE. Byakuya's a more interesting character, even if I do love Kenny; I like his development through the Soul Society arc as he tries to reconcile his duties to the Soul Society and as a Captain, to his familial obligation to take care of Hisana's only living relative (and the genuine love he has for Rukia as his sister). Plus his fight with Ichigo is one of my favorite battles in the fucking series.

Tea or coffee? I like both but if I have the choice, I prefer tea.

Hello! 💗💖💘 I do think this is like, a weird misconception sometimes that Scorpios can’t be scared?

Mostly I think it stems from the idea that ‘ohh they’re so in control and suave and dominant’ -  that it might’ve just translated into people assuming they are constantly just going to be like that. 

Which isn’t usually the case? It’s more like something we push/boxed people into inside our head based on observations of other circumstances. But when it comes to unexpected things like horrors or things that we ARE scared of- we mostly associate Scorpios to being almost unemotional about it, or we expect them to be this way - which is unfair ? to say the least? in how we treat another person or what we almost kinda pressure them into trying to fit what we think they should be?

I’d probably caution to be more careful about what assumptions we’ve made about others - or how we ourselves are the one curating someone else’s image without regards for who they actually are or having respect/trust to show us who they are sometimes. Which y know - hinders, communication and trust especially in a para-social experience (which is already a little tricky).  

I do think that most people - even with Scorpio placements - who has mutable pisces/gemini in them can be a little distraught when it comes to horrors even if it fascinates them. Especially in the moon position bc that’s about their emotions and receptivity. It’s more to do with how reactive they are and how that combined with the context of horror?? sometimes it CAN be fun for some people, but it’s exhausting to be the one person who’s constantly going to be reactive when a surprise happens to them that isn’t evoking good emotions/associations all the time. 

When it comes to horror that aims for specific emotions - some having really sad backstories or using trauma as a plot factor - being provoked into constantly recognizing these background factors and reliving it to process may or may not be someone’s cup of tea all the time. If it’s something that STICKS to them and keeps them constantly thinking/reflecting on the subject after in order to push through/process the experience (which is what/how mutable moons may constantly have to do in order to get through/pass certain phases/emotions in their life) - sometimes its just not worth it. Not worth the obsession, the time, the effort. Maybe there are other elements or subjects that could’ve given the same thing - it doesn’t always guarantee that Scorpios = likes horrors because that would be? over-generalization of the placement? 

I don’t doubt that there are Scorpios in our lives who do find fascination with the topics of horrors and paranormal - but I do think it’s more to do with the ease and ability to tune in, explore, and shed light on the subjects/discover it more than just trying to reason with why it’s science or some semantics on the issue of ghosts and aliens. It’s less of a ‘im going to do something with it’ fascination but more like an indulgence and a willingness to listen to experience and be receptive to other’s stories. However, I do think that if it weighs too heavily on the person or if it gets in the way of their everyday - day to day life - that it feeds on their paranoia or fear and becomes more of an issue to their practicality or skill-sets - then it’s not something they find worth the trouble. Which is - like, you don’t have to like horror or be a fan of it as a Scorpio - you can be into other subjects like true crime or whatever you find to align with your capabilities as well.

Actually if I really think about it - they’re more no-nonsense than they usually said to be on the topic? Like yeah they indulge them and likes being swayed by the fascination - but if it gets in the way, the ties should be cut before it gets out of hand. There’s other matters to attend to, other things needed by others. There’s more serious and practical topics to dive into or be of help with, that they’re needed/can actually be useful in. Can actually make the changes happen, unless they set their sights seriously on the topic of paranormal/ghosties - I do think it’s more of an indulgence, and not like - a characteristic traits sometimes - just like? the topic of sex and ‘taboo’ and how we think all Scorpios are obsessed with the subject - sometimes it’s really just about the indulgence and freedom that comes with non-semantics stuff. And they are martian ruled so it.. it makes sense that these fascinations/whims can take them somewhere with it.

But yeah, to answer your question: nah I don’t think he was just ‘acting’ to make the fans like him. To be honest it’s mostly this over generalizations and prejudice on Scorpios that makes people think ‘oh shouldn’t you be like that?’ or ‘shouldn’t you be like this?’ in order to fit them inside a box (which- sadly, happens to Libra and Geminis as well). I don’t doubt that certain Scorpio placements can stomach a lot of horrors and be fascinated by the topics - in the context of Jimin however, I do think he’s way more of a 'but why would you do that to yourself?’ head-first kinda person than to indulge in something he knows he’s going to get a fright of every single time and willingly put himself in that position to be emotionally provoked whenever he sees a horror thing.

Another Legion Chapter 22 Spoiler Discussion:  Charles Xavier and the Butterfly Effect

So here’s the thing (yes, there’s a thing):  On my initial “Morning After”-post, I made an ob about Charles Xavier’s one decision and his head-scratching priorities (mutant-hunting versus child-rearing/wife-supporting) and what I thought of them.  Did and didn’t think much of it at the time (in other words, I thought it was “just me”)...and then went online later and noted that I was hardly alone in my ob!  As a matter of fact, I read one quote by Harry Lloyd himself noting that this one moment was the one that, at least where this characterization is concerned, revealed that Xavier was hardly a hero.

Now that isn’t to say that this makes Xavier a villain by default per se.  For that matter, Farouk’s simplistic Chapter 15 declaration that the “non-hero” by default was a villain and vice-versa does not make him a hero if Xavier is not one himself imo.  But the more I think about it, the more I realize that, had Charles made a completely different decision and put his family ahead of his obsession over whether or not he was the only mutant in the world, the “present day scenario” in which we find ourselves as an audience -- potential Apocalypse, David Haller literally versus the world, Farouk slyly and quietly pulling the strings on all sides, etc. -- could have been completely avoided.  (Not sure about whether or not David would have “psychotic mutant issues” per se; I kind of think he would have, but they would be milder and more manageable than what we see now, and he would hopefully be in a more supportive and understanding environment than he is at present.  Also, that Syd-thing probably wouldn’t have happened either, I’m thinking, because Farouk wouldn’t have messed with the Birds and Syd!)  Prevention is indeed less costly than cure, and Charles Xavier could have prevented the world from having to be saved in the first place had he not hunted down a Moroccan mutant that plunged his entire family straight down to Hell both literally and figuratively!  The point has repeatedly been made that David’s attempts at time travel and prevention have potentially exacerbated an already bad situation and all but sealed his fate as Farouk’s property, and while I acknowledge and note that on the one hand, on the other, had Charles stayed, we would be looking at a completely different present in which David may feel no need to go to such extremes in the first place!  Everything hinges not on Farouk’s actual possession (as David believes) but Charles exposing himself to Farouk in the first place.  To me it’s like teasing a poisonous rattlesnake:  Sure, the inevitable venomous bites have tragic consequences, but common sense could easily prevent them.

Lest this turn into a complete “Xavier Attack,” lol, we saw this to a lesser extent last week in Clark’s obsession with using Squirrel to track down Lenny in pursuit of David, if not landing David himself.  Sure, he launched a seemingly successful strategy on the “Tea Party Gang,” but it was that one little detail he neglected -- properly arming an expensive vehicle containing expensive vehicles and the literal brains of the operation in the form of Cary -- that proved D3′s downfall.  It was only too easy for Lenny the Target to hop in and whizz away with Cary in tow due to his neglect of the safety of all of the participants in the mission.  It’s always that one tiny little detail slipping one’s mind in a moment of focus that sometimes leads to boneheaded mishaps at the least and occasional tragedies at the worst, sadly but truthfully, and it’s the realization of how preventable the consequences were in retrospect that oftentimes lead to self-torture and regret.  But there are too many folks so focused on their own “priorities,” whether it be the determination of Clark and Syd to kill David and/or “save the world,” David’s determination to “fix things” (again, might not have been necessary in the first place, as we now know), or Charles’ determination to confirm his desire to “find others,” that the tunnel vision eclipses the ability to foresee the potential consequences of the actions in question.

Now this is how things look at present, as is the nature of this show; much to my relief, by all accounts this is hardly the last of “Chuck’nGabby” that we will see before the curtain call, and I’m eager to see Charles’s retrospective take on all of this.  Will he reflect on this with extreme regret?  How will that effect David’s wildly desperate attempts at grasping the situation for all of his internal and external struggles?  Now maybe there’s more to this:  Maybe Farouk did pose an immediate threat, and maybe Xavier was “called to attention” over it, being a soldier and all.  Now that would make more sense if that proves to be the case, but the way Chapter 22 presented it, it just appears that Xavier got a wild hair, booked a trip to Morocco, and kissed Gabs and Little Davey goodbye before their happy lives were forever changed for the worse.  I’ll hold my fire until or unless more info becomes available, but for now I’d say my biggest among many facepalms lies with Xavier.  In fact, I would call it the root ultimate facepalm:  The literal fate of the world lies with this one core decision, and it wasn’t necessarily David’s.  But we have seen enough of David’s psyche to compare it to that of his father’s now and say, “Oh, that’s where you get it!”

On that note, it puts David in Chapters 9 to Chapter 13 in a whole new light:  Distracted by conflicting missions, debating whether to destroy Farouk’s body via the D3-mission or to save it via FutureSyd’s insistence, grappling over the notion of having lost a year of his life as all others have moved on for better or worse, the last thing on his mind was the safety of Amy and Ben, which he clearly took for granted until he realized the truth too late.  Similarly, Farouk took advantage of his father’s distraction with his own mission by whatever motivation -- orders, self-imposed curiosity, who knows right now? -- and destroyed what he loved in a similar fashion with an equally twisted motivation.

Again, at least that’s how it looks to me.

BnHA Chapter 171: Knock Them Dead With Your Sound

Previously on BnHA: Deku and Mirio visited Eri in the hospital. Eri apologized for everything they went through in order to save her, particularly Mirio who lost his powers. Mirio told her it wasn’t her fault and that everyone was just glad she was safe, and they all wanted to see her smiling face. Eri tried to smile but couldn’t quite manage it. Deku racked his brain for ways to cheer her up, and struck on the idea of inviting her to the cultural festival. Aizawa said he’d need to ask the principal but that it could probably be arranged. After Mirio explained the concept, Eri agreed, saying that she wanted to get to know everyone better. We then cut to the police, who were watching a live broadcast of a convenience store robbery and trying to trace its source. The robber, a gentleman thief named -- wait for it -- Gentle, took out six heroes in the blink of an eye and then left without taking any money. He said he wanted his name to be etched into history, and as he met up with his accomplice afterwards, he pondered what his next great exploit should be.

Today on BnHA: We are properly introduced to Gentle and his social media-savvy adoring fan La Brava. Gentle specializes in “chivalrous crimes” that target corruption. However his recent videos haven’t been as popular, in part because Stain and the League of Villains have been stealing his thunder. Back at U.A., word begins to spread about class A’s band performance and dance program. Bakugou overhears some grumps complaining about how cocky 1-A is and how they’re the ones who “start all the conflict.” That evening the kids meet to hash out who will be in charge of what. Jirou needs a drummer, and it turns out Bakugou plays drums, but he’s pissed at the idea of being obligated to provide stress relief for the other departments. As he puts it, “we aren’t getting smacked down by the villains because we enjoy it.” Instead he reframes the whole thing as a battle, and vows to knock U.A. dead with his sound. I mean, whatever works I guess. Meanwhile Gentle reveals to La Brava that he’s planning a new stunt which will surpass anything Stain or the League has done: he plans to invade U.A.

People's expectations weren't weird considering the books and the fact that the NK/the Others were set out to be unlike any other enemy. But in the end he died by being stabbed just like any other living enemy except icier and the ability to bring back the dead, which wbk. D&D also said that the episode wouldn't just be 100% battle because, in their own words, that would be boring but that's what they did and it was boring. Every battle episode was better than this one.

the NK was unlike any other enemy. I mean he couldnt be killed by fire, he could sense every attempt on his life, he had unlimited power to raise the dead, he commanded a massive army of the dead. I don’t see how anything on the show made the NK seem regular. His death stuck to the established lore from the show so I’m still not seeing the problem here. Were they supposed to randomly create new convoluted magic with no background to kill him? Was Bran suddenly supposed to acquire new skills that no other 3ER has ever had just for the sake of making the NKs death more flashy for your liking? If DnD had done any of the corny stuff I’ve seen suggested y’all would have laughed at them for turning your precious books into a disney Joke. I honestly think there is nothing that can really satisfy you guys because you’re hell bend on hating the show not being able to translate every page of those large books and for not being able to fullfill every fantasy you guys have created in your heads for the last few years. People have been preaching for years that GRRM is so subversive and yet you think that he was gonna make some xtra special out of thin air magic to defeat the NK. Based on what I’ve read from him and his work, an “ordinary” weapon wielded by an EXTRAORDINARY girl that NOBODY expected to be the one to do it sounds like the kinda twist he would appreciate. 

The episode was 100% about the battle, but it wasn’t 100% about fighting that I think that’s the point DnD wanted to make with their statement. There was no way this wouldn’t be battle heavy when they advertised how much they put into it. It would be a flat out lie to say that battle was just non stop mindless sword fighting with no human elements to ground it. We saw Dany Grieve, we saw Jon desperate to get to Bran and his meltdown that he can’t get there. We saw Sansa and Tyrion reflect on their marriage and find comfort in each other as they braced themselves for death. We saw Lyanna Mormont bravely sacrifice herself to stop a giant, we saw Edd die to save Sam, We saw Jorah sacrifice himself to save Dany. We saw a terrified Arya run through her home to save herself from the army of the dead, We saw Mellisandre and Davos have a moment, we saw Mellisandre give Arya the push she needed to kill the NK and we saw her perform feats that had nothing to do with her swinging a sword. And Theon and Bran, I mean they had multiple scenes that had nothing to do with the greater war but everything to do with them as human beings with a past. Theon learning that Winterfell was always his him and Everything he’s done, good and bad was to bring him back to his home  was such an amazing human moment that I don’t see how it didn’t bring you to tears. If that one didn’t do it then the second scene where Bran visibly shows emotional distress as he tells Theon he’s a good man and the way Theon cries because he can finally be at peace with himself like.... I mean Bran, emotionless Bran looked pained at his death. There was also Dany grieving over Jorah, her closest confidant, her constant since the very beginning. I’m not even a Dany fan and I felt that. This episode was crafted with actions, stakes, suspense, and human emotion that reminded us what everyone was fighting for so I whole heartedly disagree that is was boring. It was crafted better and had higher stakes than every other battle on the show IMO. The battle of the bastards was literally just fighting and Jon almost dying the entire time outside of Rickon’s death and Sansa saving the day. I really don’t see how y’all can be so convinced that it can even compare to this even though it was a great battle and episode as a whole. The best parts of the battle of the bastards was AFTER the actual major part of the battle but I don’t think y’all ready for that tea today lol 

so yeah, based on the complaints I maintain that y’all expectations were weird and ya’ll criticisms are mostly petty. I haven’t seen anything yet that wasn’t extremely nitpicky because of bitterness over something else.

Latte of Fortune | D.O x Reader

Pairing: Kyungsoo (D.O) x Reader

Note: This is the longest story I’ve ever written in this blog I think...? And this is my first slow smut - not sure whether it is great....but my usual smut isn’t that great too lol but anyway, enjoy <3

There is always a girl that runs into the coffee shop, every single morning. She is always the first customer of the day and always order the very same six cups of coffee.

“One americano with less ice, one caramel frappuccino with whip cream, one grean tea latte, one latte, one mocha, and one dark mocha,” is always her order is. Kyungsoo can even remember it outside his head.

She is a cute girl, smaller than Kyungsoo. In the morning, she always has her hair a tad messy, like she does not comb her hair and just rushes to buy coffees. Kyungsoo once asked why she always buys the same coffee and here was her answer:

“It is for my fellow seniors,” she said as she offers her company’s card with a smile. Unknowingly, Kyungsoo smiled too at her.

“Where do you work?”

“Ahh, it’s the company across here.”

He nodded his head, “But I never see you when it is break time?”

She just grinned, “It must be because I’m working on my paper. I’m still an intern so there are many things need to be learnt.”

“Come here after work then,” he smiled as he gave back the card.

“I will if there is no company party.”

She then walked to the chair, sitting by the window - that is always her place when she is waiting for the orders. Kyungsoo makes every cup for her with care, trying the best to give her the best flavor a coffee can be. Kyungsoo does not know which one is hers, but he just makes everything with heart. With the best coffee in town, maybe she can get lighter work from her seniors because of the sudden boost of mood.

“Y/N,” He calls her name once he puts every cup on the carton.

She turns her head like a deer caught in headlight. When she skips her way to take her orders, she looks very cute like always.

“Thank you,” she smiles as she takes the order.

When she walks out, he just remember to ask her something tomorrow - which one is her drink?

Unfortunately, the girl did not come back when it is afterwork hour, but Kyungsoo is used to it. She never comes back to the shop except when it is morning. That was Bruce Wayne, despite being a grown man he had these rare moments where he acted like a teenager, almost like the lack of childhood peeked through from time to time. He fastened his tie in the mirror, meeting my eye in the reflection. “See something you like?” One of his thick brows arched, a playful smirk resting on his lips.

“Maybe I do, maybe I don’t, what are you gonna do about it?” I spoke walking over to try and wrap my arms around his large form, he laughed finishing his tie before turning so we faced each other. I leaned up to rest my hands against his chest. “Now look who’s trynna start something.” He spoke breaking our stare off. I made him meet my eye, grabbing the sides of his face, stopping him in his tracks.“Hon I know- but you need to calm down, don’t act when you’re angry, you may do something you’ll regret.” His expression softened for a moment as he leaned into my touch subconsciously. “You’re one of - if not the most- incredible people I’ve ever encountered, you’re naively kind but all the same stubbornly intelligent, you’re what keeps me sane. So it’s hard to watch idiots who have no idea what kind of amazing human being you are judge you for something as ridiculous and trivial as the color of your skin.” He quickly worked himself back up so I wordlessly pulled him to his bed. He landed on his back with a huff, I pushed myself off of the soft mattress to get up and close the blinds, I took both our phones and silenced them, before putting them across the room. He stared at me with a face that asked what I was doing but I said nothing. I pulled his shoes off before kicking off my own. “What are you up too?” He spoke, the words were still serious as ever but slightly amused.I sighed with a sad smile. “Growing up- and sometimes to this day- it felt like a crime to be brown, anything and everything you did was wrong or not enough, so when the world got just a little too bleak for me to handle, I would shut it out for a little while and collect my bearings so I could face the challenges with a clear mind.” He stared at me as I climbed my way up his stupidly big bed until I made it to him. I hovered over his body, a small grin on my face as I stared at him. “We’re gonna shut the world out, because they don’t deserve our attention right now.” He said nothing but them smile growing on his face told me everything I needed to hear. His eyes turned soft, his body finally un-tensing and Bruce, had finally come back to me.

“Tim?” They both looked up, the younger man smiling at me.“Hey (y/n)! Fancy seeing you here, Couldn’t sleep?” I crossed my arms, trying my best to look intimidating in my robe and bonnet. “I was asleep, but my Bruce-is-about-to-do-something-stupid senses were tingling so I figured I’d come check it out.”

 Tim barked out a laugh before covering it up with a cough at the Bat glare™ he received. He turned back to the computer with an awkward whistle. Bruce turned to me, removing his cowl so we were face to face.“You should go back to bed, I’ll be in later.”

“Oh I’ll go back to sleep, if you tell me what you’re doing over there.”

“That’s confidential.”

“He’s making me hack into some random Twitter accounts.” I could feel the glare he gave Tim all the way across the room. “Bruce!” “This is justice.” “This is petty is what it is.” He crossed his arms, smirk ever present on his smug face.“Cyber bullying is illegal, I’m just doing my job. "Tim peaked his head out from behind Bruce 

"Wait who got bullied.”

“No one"

 Bruce and I spoke simultaneously, Tim made some sort of noise of acknowledgement before the typing noises intensified.“Yeah they got this coming."I sighed into my hands. "Tim not you too!
