Sinful Thoughts (Michael Langdon X Reader) Part 1
Tumblr media
ok now that i read this over i lowkey hate the way it turned out, but i spent a lot of time on it so im gonna post it anyways lmfao. y’all wanted sexual tension, so sexual tension you shall receive!
plot: you’re the epitome of a good christian girl. michael langdon intends to ruin that.
warnings: high school au, fem!Reader, masturbation, sexual tension, no actual smut
word count: 2.7k
i.
“Alright, last pairing. (Y/n), your lab partner will be Michael Langdon.”
You were sure the color drained from your face, because a collective snicker spread itself throughout the classroom the minute you registered your teacher’s words. You’d always hated group projects. Even worse to you were involuntary pairings. Especially when it meant that you were now obligated to do your school project with the weirdly flirtacious kid who lived across the street from you.
You froze, looking across the classroom to the boy who’d been named. He smiled at you innocently, hands crossed neatly in front of him. Your stomach lurched.
“Uh, Ms. Calvin? Would it be okay if I, um, worked by myself instead? I don’t mind taking on the extra work.” You swallowed nervously. More laughter from your classmates, which you did not acknowledge.
Your teacher frowned, emphasizing the deep-set lines in her face. “If I let you work alone, I’d have to let everyone work alone. This project is meant to be completed with a partner.”
You sighed, trying not to seem too distressed as you fidgeted with the sleeves of your pale pink sweater. “Then could I possibly get a new partner?”
“Ms. (Y/l/n), sometimes we are dealt things in life that are not ideal to us. Michael is a perfectly capable young man, and you will work with him.”
“But-“
“Unless you have a valid reason not to work with Mr. Langdon, he will remain as your lab partner.”
You ran your tongue over your bottom lip. What was the reason you were so opposed to working with him? He hadn’t done anything to you, not really. You’d known him since he’d first moved into the neighborhood two years back- from the second you’d saw him, clad in all black with a confident stride, he made you nervous.
Of course, there was also the fact that he seemed to love making you uncomfortable. He’d make some sort of flirtatious comment nearly every time your paths crossed, and it made your insides churn. But still- it was possible he wasn’t even aware that he was being flirtatious, though you doubted that from the way his eyes would glint each time he’d make you blush.
The bell rang, jarring you, and you tucked your books away into your sensible messenger bag. Then you tugged gently on the dainty cross which hung around your neck on a thin gold chain. You always fiddled with it when you were feeling anxious; it brought you comfort to feel the smooth symbol under your fingers.
You nearly jumped out of your skin when somebody leaned on your desk, placing both hands palm-down with a startling thud. You didn’t even have to look up to see who it was: you saw a leather jacket and black button-up, along with large hands adorned with several rings.
“That wasn’t very nice of you,” came a smooth, slightly mocking voice. “What’s so bad about being my partner?”
You looked up timidly, flinching slightly under the boy’s piercing blue gaze. “Nothing. I just- um.” Your voice trailed off, and you realized it probably hadn’t been the wisest choice to request a new partner in front of the entire class.
“You just what?” He tilted his head to the side, widening his eyes. “You has no problem voicing your thoughts a minute ago.”
Since looking into his eyes was making you impossibly nervous, you tried instead to focus on his hair, which even you had to admit was lovely. “I just think we’d both work better with other partners.”
He shook his head, allowing his blond waves to fall in front of his eyes. “I’ve been nothing but nice to you, (y/n),” he said softly. “Perhaps you’d like me better if I weren’t so nice?”
You scoffed, and he cocked an eyebrow at you, seemingly pleased with your defiance as a grin began forming across his full lips.
“You’ve never been nice. You just love to make me uncomfortable.”
“If anything I’ve said has made you uncomfortable, then that’s on you.” He stood up straight, drumming his fingers on the black belt around his slim waist. “Why would you think I care enough to try and make you squirm?”
You pushed back in your chair and jumped to your feet, throwing your bag over your shoulder. “Just- don’t talk to me unless it’s about the project.”
“So we’ll meet on Friday, then?” he grinned at you, baring his perfectly straight teeth.
“I am not going to your house,” you snapped. “You can come to mine.”
“Fine with me. I’d love to see the way a girl like you lives.”
“I’m not even going to ask you what that’s supposed to mean,” you muttered, walking around your desk so you wouldn’t have to cross paths with Michael on your way out.
“Oh, (y/n)?” he said, just as you were about to leave. Back still to him, you grimaced.
“What?”
“That’s a nice necklace you’ve got on.”
Your hand flew up to your neck, caressing the cool metal frantically. In your head, a prayer repeated itself over and over; you shut your eyes, hoping it’d calm you down, but for the first time in your life, it didn’t.
ii.
The week went by impossibly fast, and before you knew it, it was Friday. You’d almost forgotten the plans you’d made with Michael— almost— but Michael had made sure to cheerily remind you that morning as you left your house to leave for school.
Now it was 3:59. He was supposed to come over at 4. Your palms sweat profusely as you waited in the living room, and you wiped them on your modest knee-length skirt.
You hoped maybe, by some miracle, he’d forget. But you knew that would never happen. He was looking forward to this, looking forward to getting under your skin.
The clock on your phone switched briskly to 4:00, and you winced. There was a beat, and then came three sturdy knocks on your front door. Of course he’d show up at 4 on the dot. What else had you expected?
You stood up and fixed your hair, hoping he wouldn’t be able to sense the intense anxiety coursing through you. Then you made your way to the door and swung it open, letting out shallow breaths in an attempt to compose yourself.
He stood there on your welcome mat, backpack slung over his shoulder and smirk on his lips. He made no attempt to conceal the way his eyes traveled over your body, and you shifted, uneasy. “Michael. Come in.”
“You seem enthused,” he said, brushing past you and into your home without a second thought.
You turned around, watching him enter your living room, his head turning to observe every last detail. His lips curved upwards slightly as he regarded the various religious symbols mounted on the wall- an old-fashioned crucifix, a simple wooden cross, a framed painting of Jesus that your mom had bought at a yard sale. Then his eyes fell upon the leather-bound bible on the coffee table, and he chuckled.
“What?” you demanded, narrowing your eyes at him.
“Nothing,” he sang, shoving his hands in the pockets of his jacket and flashing you a close-mouthed smile. You returned it with a straight face, entirely unamused.
“Wait here while I get my stuff,” you said, turning on your heel and heading for the stairs. “And don’t follow me.”
You made your way up the carpeted steps, tensing as you could practically feel his eyes bore into you from behind. All at once you felt self-conscious, and you wished you’d changed into a pair of sweatpants instead of staying in your skirt.
When you got up to your room you let out a breath, immediately relieved once you were out of his admittedly intimidating presence. You walked over to your desk, impeccably tidy save for your biology binder set in the middle.
“Hm. Looks exactly like I expected,” came a drawling voice in the doorway, and you jumped.
“I thought I told you not to follow me,” you said through grit teeth, jaw clenching as you tucked your binder under your arm. That was strange, you thought, the way he’d snuck up on you without you hearing his footsteps on the stairs. He ignored you and tilted his head quizzically, running his fingers along the rosary hanging off your doorknob.
“Don’t touch that,” you said, and he let it drop, beads bouncing noisily against the wooden door.
“So you really believe all this Jesus shit, huh?” he said, amused, taking a few steps inside.
“Get out of my room,” you said in as firm a tone you could muster, but you were surprised when your voice trembled.
He looked at the wooden cross hanging above your bed, and then down at the blue blanket and matching pillows, positioned evenly and smoothed out. You felt vulnerable, somehow, knowing that he now had an image in his mind of where you slept.
“Everything in here is so impossibly perfect,” he stated, running his fingers idly along the frame of your bed. “You want to be perfect, don’t you? You want to be mommy and daddy’s perfect little Christian girl.”
You stared at him, feet planted to the ground as you tried to come up with something to say. He sounded so sure of himself, like he’d been inside your mind and was simply reciting the facts. You wanted to punch him right between those hooded blue eyes, but something inside you prevented you from moving.
“I assume you’re saving yourself for marriage?” he continued, coming closer to you with a smug expression on his handsome face. You willed your feet to move, and your eyes widened when you realized you literally were unable to. Panic rose in your throat, contrasting harshly with his cool exterior.
“None of your business,” you spat, curling your fingers into your palm to try and conceal the silver purity ring you’d been given at church camp several years ago. He laughed, stopping in front of you.
“You’ve never even kissed a boy, have you?”
He craned neck slightly, just looking at you. Then he reached up and tucked two fingers beneath your chin, tilting it up so you could look at him. “And I’m certain you’ve never touched yourself.”
Your face burnt up at his words, and you knew he was enjoying watching the redness creep across your face. He was mere inches away from you now, smiling serenely as you tried your hardest to pull back.
“I’ll even bet that every time you feel that ache between your legs, you drop to your fucking knees and beg god for forgiveness,” he whispered, breath hot on your face.
“Shut up,” you mumbled, focusing all your energy on trying to move. What was keeping a hold on you? It couldn’t possibly be Michael- how would he be able to do something like that?
“Because good Christian girls aren’t allowed to feel carnal pleasure,” he said, brushing his thumb over your bottom lip. “Are they?”
His hand moved from your face to your neck, his pace painfully slow. Your breath hitched when his fingers reached the thin chain around your neck, toying with it for a moment before continuing downwards. He took the cross in his hand and surveyed it, running his thumb across it as he leveled it in his palm.
Before you could do anything, he let go, and all at once the hold on you seemed to break. You pushed him back, hard, silently thanking god for freeing you.
“Leave. And don’t come back. I’ll do the whole project myself. You can take credit for half, I don’t even care.”
He let out a low chuckle. “I’ll let you get back to your prayers.”
You eyed him as he turned around and left, following him to the top of the stairs and watching as he left through the front door. You waited a minute before returning to your room, fixated on the door as if Michael might change his mind and burst through it. Your heart hammered against your ribcage as a familiar, unwelcome sensation began radiating from between your thighs, which you intended to ignore as usual.
You were so distracted by the thoughts of what on earth had just happened that you almost didn’t notice the small change that had been made in your room.
The cross above your bed- which you could’ve sworn had been upright when you followed Michael out- was now, plain as day, upside down.
iii.
You blinked twice, mind foggy as you took a step forward, toes curling at the feeling of cold wood against your bare soles.
You looked down; you were naked, skin dotted over with clusters of goosebumps as your hair stood on end. Your nipples hardened at the low temperature, and all at once you realized you could see your breath in front of you.
You heard something stir from afar, and finally you averted your attention to the opposite end of the room. You were in a church, it appeared, the pews of which were empty. The noise you’d heard had come from behind the altar, and it quickly became apparent that somebody was standing behind it.
Your mouth went dry. It was Michael. His face was heavily shadowed, but from his stature alone you knew it was him. He, too, was naked, at least as far as you could see from the portion of his body that was visible.
A chill rolled up your spine and you wrapped your arms around your stomach, shivering as the cold set into your bones. Michael raised one hand, and though his eyes were obscured with shadows, you knew they were settled on you, your body.
From his fingertips, a flame ignited. He rolled his wrist back, cupping his hand around the flame as it grew. Then he flicked his hand forward, and you stumbled backwards as each pew went up in flames, the rich scent of burning wood invading your lungs. Your skin prickled at the feeling of unbridled warmth enveloping you, and from your throat spilled a grateful moan.
“Touch me, and never again will you freeze,” came a booming voice, loud enough to bring you to your knees. You realized that Michael was now much closer to you than he had been before, standing bare as he looked down upon you. You reached for him without shame, lips parting, and before you could feel him, everything went black.
“Michael-“ you croaked.
Your eyes shot open; you were in your bed, legs entangled in a mess of sweat-stained sheets. It took several seconds to collect yourself, and once you finally had, you discovered that your hand was slipped underneath your underwear and buried between your thighs.
“Oh my-“ you stopped yourself from finishing the sentence, removing your hand as if it’d been burnt. Running your hand over the fabric of your underwear, you were alarmed to find that it was completely soaked through.
Face flushing with guilt, you groaned at the pounding coming from your core. It almost scared you how badly you wanted to touch, how badly you wanted to slip your fingers up inside yourself and ride them until you couldn’t hold back the screams.
There was something seriously wrong with you. Usually you were able to ignore the feelings, but with each passing second the throbbing intensified, causing you to squirm restlessly. Images of Michael flashed through your mind, the filthy words he’d spoken to you earlier vibrating in your ears, and you bit your lower lip hard enough to draw blood. Your hips bucked up towards nothing involuntarily; your chest rose and fell hard, one hand settled on your breast through your sleep shirt.
It’s not right, you thought, applying slight pressure to your nipple before drawing your hand back. You squeezed your eyes shut, moving your lips silently as you methodically recited prayer after prayer in your mind, hoping to find the strength to ignore the feeling and go back to sleep.
It felt like an eternity had passed before you fell back to sleep, and when you woke up the next morning, you couldn’t help but feel disgusted with yourself, sneering at your reflection in the mirror for being so goddamned weak.
You didn’t know what kind of spell Michael had cast over you, making you think such vulgar thoughts, but you were sure of one thing: Michael Langdon was nothing but trouble.

Looking for offence where there is none.
Wow! So I have learned something from the short time I have been on Tumblr is people literally will find any reason to be offended. I mean like they really reach to scrape the bottom of the barrel for that non existent offence they so desperately need. I'm beginning to think that some people have felt so offended their whole lives (maybe they have? I know some will most definitely of had) that they simply don't feel comfortable without something to be offended by. It's not just the LGBTQ+ community either, it's the straight community to. It's honestly got to the point where it plays out like this:
Person A *inhales*
Person B "Omg! Stop offending me!"
Person A *exhales*
Person B "For God's sake! Stop oppressing us! You and everyone in your community are d**kheads! Im reporting you!"
Yep, that's is basically what I am seeing. Someone only has to breath, have some difference of opinion and suddenly they are racist, transphobic, homophobic, biphobic, misogynistic or straightphobic (is that a word?)
Now I only scroll through the Supergirl tag mostly. But man! (Waiting for someone to call me out and be offended I said 'man' and not 'woman') some members of the fandoms really do spend the majority of their time on here looking for offence in every post don't you? Notice how I said 'some' and not 'all'? Yeah that's because generalising (one of those things people find offensive but do anyway) isn't cool. So one or two of the fans are d**kheads, that doesn't mean everyone is. Yes I know it's not just 'one or two' before the haters come for me. I am simplifying. But just because a gang of men were misogynistic towards you doesn't mean you would say 'ALL me are bad!' Or you run into a group of women who are homophobic you wouldn't then say 'ALL women are homophobic!' Would you? If you would please seek some help.
Now recently I've seen a lot of Supercorp posts that simply show gifs of Kara and Lena and it says they are showing heart eyes. Perfectly harmless, no mis tagging for the tag police, and yet I see 'That's fan interpretation!' Well yes, well done you 👏 of course it's fan interpretation, what else would it be? So then it's followed up with 'that's fanon and not canon!' Well again, yes of course it is. Isn't that the whole point of shipping? This coming from people who actual ship non canon couples. Hypocrisy aside I don't see how this offends someone ? Please enlighten me because it seems that that is scrapping the barrel looking for offence where there is none.
I mean do you have a daily offence quota you have to hit before midnight before you turn back into a pumpkin?
Anything that is different to what another person ships seems to carry full on offence now.
Person A 'I didn't like the James and Kara pairing'
Person B 'Omg! How dare you! You must be a racist there is no other reason why you would say that! Don't even try to make an excuse! We see you!'
Person A 'er.... it's not because he's black, I actually really liked him with Lucy, I wish they were still a thing'.
Person B, silent because they assumed racism from someone they didn't know. Quick, we need a new argument to throw at them, oh I know, 'well then you must be gay and a Supercorp shipper!' Congratulates themselves on finding a new offence.
Person A, "Actually I don't ship Supercorp, I like the idea of Lena with Winn'.
Person B, *dumbfounded* needs another reason to be offended because they can't admit they were simply ignorant arses who assumed, and completely ignore the fact they just assumed someone was gay. "Well then you must be homophobic!' Once again congratulating themselves on coming out on top!
Person B, *exasperated* "So, in the last 5 minutes I've gone from racist, to gay, to homophobic? If I say I don't ship Nia and Brainy will you then call me transphobic and I can have a full house? I think I may have more reason to be the offended party in this conversation'.
Person B, still not brave enough to admit they have been acting ridiculous this whole time decides to try and have the last word with 'stay in your own lane and tags!'
THIS! ^^ I see this frequently. That right there is scrapping the barrel looking for offence where there is none. So some people on here are petty, some are homophobic, some are transphobic, some racist, some bi phobic and some misogynistic. But here's the thing, just because someone isn't agreeing with EVERYTHING you want to happen on the show or simply doesn't have the same view does not mean they are out to get you. Please for the love of RAO stop looking for offence were there is none.
Sending ❤ to the Supercorp, Karamel, GuardianCorp, Winnara shippers. (That's all I could think of) Your ship is valid, you aren't wrong to ship them. Ignore the haters. Every ship has its issues.
Just waiting for someone to say I'm offensive now.

https://rwby-analysis.tumblr.com/post/172350052147/im-always-a-little-annoyed-by-people-who-say-that
https://rwby-analysis.tumblr.com/post/172354627777/listen-when-it-comes-to-sexual-orientations
*Sigh* To think I’d have to do this to RWBY-Analysis of all people.
Okay, let’s go.
Sorry to disappoint you, but shipping Ilia with Sun or Jaune really isn’t the best thing to do now that she’s a confirmed lesbian. (I’m actually really not sorry.)
Why? Why is this such an issue? It’s just shipping, just an idea. It’s not like doing this suddenly means Illa turns straight or anyone is actually saying that. So why is this an issue?
Shipping straight dudes to make them gay doesn’t take away from straight representation. Media is incredibly heteronormative and queer people rarely see themselves represented. Even when we are we’re mostly just side characters, often badly written. Additionally male gay characters are way more represented in media and fandoms and queer women are often overlooked (not to even talk about all the other identities).
... Okay, what you just described is a zero sum game, in which something can only be gained by taking away from another. Thus nothing is added. And honestly, it’s stupid to think this way about fictional concepts. Shipping is NOT real and it does NOT take away from canon. Just as well: SHIPPING IS NOT ACTIVISM. You do not get moral credit for shipping gay ships or lose it for shipping straight ships.  None of this belogs in shipping.
Yeah, Media is incredibly heteronormative...so is the human race. Washinting post says that 96% of people are heterosexual in the US, which is one of the most liberal countries in the world. (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/volokh-conspiracy/wp/2014/07/15/what-percentage-of-the-u-s-population-is-gay-lesbian-or-bisexual/?utm_term=.e4d1dd014408) And mind you, the Washington post has a left leaning bias so they have NO reason to lie about these numbers (https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/washington-post/). So the media being heteronormative is nothing negative, especially since relating to someone SOLELY due to sexuality is just begging for tokenism.
The thing about most gay characters being poorly written...so are most straight characters. Sturgeon’s law: 99% of media is crap. It is an issue for gay characters but it’s not SOLELY their issue as well. As for the gay woman thing: Source please.
Good lesbian representation is incredibly rare. Shipping the only confirmed lesbian character on the show with a dude just because some other people ship Johnlock or whatever is just ignorant. Shipping two straight characters of the same gender doesn’t take away from straight representation because straight people just don’t have the issue of their sexual or gender identity being represented enough in media. Full stop.
You know, if you keep referring to representation as a zero sum game: I DEMAND you go all the way on it and call out people who do ship two straight characters because in the context of a zero sum game: it actually IS taking away from straight representation and for you to not look like a massive hypocrite, you NEED to call them out. ... Or just let people ship whatever they ship because people will ship two or more characters for any numbers reasons and not just representation and not everything is about representation. But really, considering what else you’ve pulled that might be asking for too much.
Ilia is a lesbian and lesbians often face the struggle of their identity not being taken seriously, especially by men who want to get into their pants. Shipping Ilia with men now that she is a confirmed lesbian plays into that stereotype. Of course there is a difference between “in this AU Ilia is bi because I really like her with Jaune, but I know she’s a lesbian in canon and accept that” and “she shouldn’t be a lesbian, canon is wrong, she should date Jaune in canon, I will write long posts about why they will end up together”. The latter especially feeds that stereotype and it’s probably what most people see when they talk about why shipping Ilia with a man is bad.
... What stereotype are you talking about? You never referenced a stereotype, just something that happens in realm life that is only tangently connected.
And as for the two choices thing: you’re wrong. It can be anything from “I ship these two for political reasons” (you and your strawman) to “I ship these two because they look cute together” to “I ship these two because I like the story ideas” to “I ship these two due to how healthy I perceive the relationship to be” to so many more reasons I can’t name. Shippers don’t all ship for political reasons. ALMOST ALL shippers don't ship for political reasons. And I have NEVER seen someone write posts like that about Illa X Jaune so that doesn’t even make sense.
Also: Your last part basically says “Shipping Illa with a man is bad because Lesbians are fragile flowers that need to be coddled.” And that’s just stupid to me. I now you don’t mean it like that but that's what it basically boils down to.
Comparing the experience of queer people not being represented in media to straight people seeing some 14 year old draw Johnlock fanart is incredibly ignorant and maybe you should educate yourself a bit more about these issues before you start invalidating the serious concerns some queer people who face these issues every day of their life have.
And this is the part that really ticks me. “If you don’t think like me, you’re ignorant and stupid!” That is what you said, RWBY-Analysis. That is what you said and that’s disgusting. Just as well: What if that 14 year old drew some IllaXJaune fanart, totally oblivious to all these politics and just because they think the couple is nice? Are they being wrong then? And comparing the actual persecution and harm done to LGBT people and fucking shipping is so...WRONG that I refuse to acknowledge that.
This definitely is a thing we should talk more about, but not by making stupid statements like you just did.
“I’m right, you’re wrong and everyone must think like me in order to be right. If you don’t: you’re ignorant and wrong.” Gotcha.
But we aren’t done yet since there is a follow up.
Listen, when it comes to sexual orientations everyone is entitled to their own headcanons. Right now there is only one character whose sexuality has been confirmed by canon, and that is Ilia. For everyone else it’s all pretty much up in the open, so there is no real reason to discuss that. I personally headcanon Weiss as super duper gay, but people who headcanon her as straight are just as valid. You do you. I won’t even discuss that with you because both headcanons can happily coexist.
Notice what she is saying: HEADCANONS/ AKA FANDOM. Not Canon, FANON. Meaning that no matter how many people ship Straight Illa, it does not change the FACT that Illa is gay. So there should be nothing else, right?
But when it comes to valid concerns members of the LGBTQ+ community have regarding how the fandom treats certain characters, especially when it comes to Ilia, the only confirmed lesbian, then that’s probably not the right moment to play the “straight people have it just as bad nowadays” card.
No, they are NOt valid concerns. Those people-YOU are not entitled to having the fandom revolve around you and bend to your will. People are allowed to do what they want in a fandom so long as it is not hurting anyone and shipping Illa X Jaune is NOT hurting anyone. It CANNOT hurt anyone but people who shouldn’t BE on the internet in the first place.
Also: Way to go ignoring how society is treating being straight and cis as a bad thing and how all straight and cis people hated all LGBT people.
I am always willing to answer questions anyone has regarding these topics, but as the question so the answer. Don’t come into my askbox complaining about concerns queer people have voiced because that doesn’t really scream “I am willing to learn about this topic and have a constructive discussion about it”, to me it just comes off as if you want to vent, and my askbox is not the right place for that. Ask politely and I’ll be polite. No question is stupid because those things are always new to anyone at some point, but ignorance is.
...
You do understand that people who would try to force people not ship certain things are NOT necessarily gay. In fact I know quite a few straight people who would pull this crap. You just assumed they would be gay because they agreed with you.
Listen: I did respect you until recently RWBY anaylsis and this post wasn’t why I stopped. You just need to understand that people are gonna ship what they want regardless of what you say and they are NOT wrong for doing so. You need to understand that shipping is not activism.
And before you say I was being harsh: No I wasn’t. You’ll be seeing what harsh looks like in my next post.

IN BLOOM | 1
Tumblr media
Characters: Im Changkyun/I.M (feat. Shin Hoseok/Wonho, Lee Jooheon) Reader: Gender Not Specified (They/Them/Theirs) Genre: Angst, Hanahaki Disease AU, Pan+Poly(?) Hoseok, Coffee Shop AU, Flower Shop AU TW: Blood, Body Horror, Vomiting Summary: Changkyun struggles with an unrequited crush on his best friend’s significant other and the sickness that accompanies it. Hoseok tries to help him cope. Word Count: 6210 A/N: Jooheon’s significant other is named Jungmin because it's a unisex name, so interpret their gender however you like. Reader is NOT Jungmin, hang in there and they will eventually appear ;; Parts: one, two, three, four, final Listen To: KNK - Sun Moon Star, The Rose - Like We Used To, Highlight - It’s Still Beautiful
As everyone around the table laughed and enjoyed each other's company, Changkyun clutched at his jeans underneath the table. His eyes prickled with tears he blinked back easily. No, he couldn’t just leave. It was an oh so rare moment where everyone could clear their schedules to go out for dinner and drinks. Usually, the get-togethers consisted of only Hoseok, Changkyun, and Minhyuk. The night would go by rather uneventfully, and then they would be on their way home. The other five always had another affair to attend to, whether it be work or romance related. Today, however, everyone had come: including the cause of his stress.
The chatter between his friends dulled in his ears as he tried to shift his thoughts. He was used to this, he could soldier through. His hand above the table picked at his food, pushing the meal around on the plate. His behavior didn't seem to attract any attention, thankfully. Everyone was too busy laughing at Jooheon’s story, ensnared by his dramatic imitations and occasional whines of “Am I telling the story or are you?” With the sound of a far too familiar giggle, Changkyun gagged as he felt the stirring of his stomach. No, not here. Not now! With the screech of his chair as he stood, he quickly excused himself from the dinner table to rush to the bathroom. While his friends found his rushing away odd, none found it strange enough to follow him as they quickly returned their attention back to Jooheon and his tale. As Changkyun rushed to the stall, he let loose a scratchy, painful cough. A couple of petals escaped his mouth, shooting out from the back of his throat painfully. He arched over the toilet bowl, finally allowing the petals to escape from him.  Please not here! Please not now! He begged, trying to force the flowers down. His eyes stung with tears, embarrassment filling his every fiber. His throat burned, stinging as if he had swallowed a heaping handful of tacks.
"Changkyun, are you okay?" a voice called into the bathroom. He pressed his hand to his mouth, desperately trying to stifle the gags. He coughed, however, and the voice called his name once more. A soft knock at his stall door scared him, causing him to spit out the rough petals. Some missed the toilet, falling onto his shirt and to the floor.
"Changkyun," Hoseok's voice called softly from the other side of the stall door, "I know you're here. It's just me."
Changkyun reached behind him and unlocked the door before whirling around to expel more flowers. He didn't hold back, however, because Hoseok was the only one he had told about this. Hoseok was the only one he trusted. He vaguely told Hoseok about the flowers, the day he first experienced them, everything. Everything except for who caused him to feel this way, to experience this pain. Between bouts of heaving, he felt Hoseok’s warm hand patting gently on his back.
"They're called delphinium," Hoseok murmured as he rubbed Changkyun's back. Somehow between his racing thoughts, Changkyun had the time to remember his hyung’s job at the local flower shop. The stall filled with his retching before Hoseok spoke again, "Mine are lilies."
Changkyun felt his heart drop at the soft confession. He hadn't known or even guessed that Hoseok had experienced the same exact pain. He had wondered why Hoseok had been so accepting of his situation, how he never once questioned him or judged him. Hoseok hummed quietly as he rubbed Changkyun's back, effectively soothing him. As the final petals fell, Changkyun coughed as the rawness of his throat hit him fully. Hoseok’s face lit up with a realization, hands patting at each of his pockets in a frenzied search.
"Oh yeah, here," Hoseok offered, holding out a plastic wrapped candy. His expression was gentle and Changkyun wanted nothing more than to hug him. He decided that it would be weird to hug in the men’s room. Changkyun took the candy with shaky hands, unwrapping it quickly and popping it into his mouth. A mixture of extremely sour and equally extremely sweet flooded his tastebuds while Hoseok laughed at his expression. "It has honey and lemon in it, to soothe your throat," Hoseok explained, standing from his crouched position to help Changkyun stand. He opened the stall door, standing in the newly emptied space and effectively cornering Changkyun.
"Thank you," Changkyun started but Hoseok raised his hand and stopped him quickly.
"It's no problem! I just... wish you would tell me who it is, so we can work around it. I want to be able to help you more, you know? I want to be able to help you avoid this." Hoseok kicked at the tiled floor, knowing the conversation was getting deeper than either of them really wanted it to. Changkyun gulped, avoiding eye contact.
"Jungmin." Changkyun said after a long pause. "It's Jungmin." He contemplated rushing out of the stall and further out of the men’s room but couldn’t bring himself to actually move.
"Jungmin, our Jungmin? The one who is dating Jooheon? Or is it the one from the coffee shop?" Hoseok asked. Changkyun sighed, wishing Hoseok had assumed it was the pretty cute barista from the coffee shop they frequented together. He cursed his legs mentally for being unable to carry him away.
"Jooheon's Jungmin, our Jungmin. That's why we can't just work around this. They're always together, and Jungmin has always been with us. I just have to get over my stupid feelings and it will be done!" Changkyun frowned.
"You know it doesn't work that way," Hoseok said sadly, "Once the flowers show up, it's finished. You'll never forget your feelings."
"It has to work," Changkyun said. He flushed the toilet and they walk back to the dinner table, pretending nothing ever happened.
It was later that night as they lay down to sleep in Changkyun’s apartment that he finally had to say everything he had ever felt about Jungmin. Hoseok had insisted on staying the night, whining in the restaurant about how Changkyun "didn't care" about him anymore and that they were "drifting apart" as they waited for the check.  Minhyuk had laughed, arguing that they had ran off to the bathroom to gossip seconds ago and Hoseok had loudly protested that Changkyun was just taking a dump. As Jungmin laughed, Changkyun felt his stomach stir and began to worry again. Luckily Hoseok noticed Changkyun’s abrupt change in mood and insisted to everyone to leave the check to him. The table cleared instantaneously as everyone rushed away before he could have a chance to go back on his word. Changkyun thanked him as the last of their friends scurried away and Hoseok just smiled at him sadly.
Hoseok had lain next to him in bed, turned to look at him. Changkyun faced the ceiling; it was easier to talk about it when he didn't have to make eye contact with the older boy. His hands shook beneath the covers, clinging desperately to the sheets as his breaths came out ragged and shaky. He mentally cursed the full moon for illuminating the room so brightly, wishing Hoseok couldn’t see him at all.
"When did you know you loved Jungmin?" Hoseok asked softly. Changkyun assumed Hoseok was speaking so quietly because he thought Changkyun would break. As if with the sound of his usual, booming voice Changkyun would shatter like broken glass and that would be the end of him. He decided he was only being too dramatic. He took a deep breath before explaining as quickly as he could.
"I guess I always loved Jungmin. I mean, Jooheon, Jungmin, and I were friends since preschool. We have a lot of memories together, and Jungmin was my first kiss. I figured it was normal to feel so attached to your childhood friends. I didn't know exactly what I felt until they were dating. My feelings never changed, I just became aware, you know? It's like I realized that it was love, not just attachment," Changkyun sighed. He tore his hands from the bedsheets and picked at the skin around his fingernails instead, the high pitched noise of his nails against the sheets irritating him.
"Did the flowers show up when Jooheon told us they were dating?"
"No, it started later. I guess I didn't let it hit me entirely until, well, you know. I've told you this."
"Remind me. It helps to talk about it more. You also told me without a lot of details, so I want to be able to help you with all of the facts set straight," Hoseok mumbled. Changkyun looked at him from the corner of his eye, surprised that Hoseok was so serious. The older boy focused on him, eyes seeming to pierce through the dark straight into his soul.
"The day Jooheon bought the promise rings. You know, the fancy matching ones he got custom made. He bragged and bragged to me and I knew I was feeling weird but I didn't even excuse myself. I figured that if I got up and left, he’d know how I feel and he would hate me for it. The vomit came first, and I threw up on his lap. Then I ran to the restroom and threw up normally for a bit and then the petals came. Why is it the first time there's only a few but as time passes there's only petals?"
"I remember Jooheon crying because you had thrown up on him, but we figured it was that stomach illness that Kihyun had. Kihyun made a valid point too. You had shared a cup when he was sick and everyone agreed that you were sick. I wish I had at least checked with you. Then you wouldn't have had to suffer alone for those 3 months," Hoseok pouted, "Also, it's like that for everyone. The first time is a few petals, barely enough to notice. As time passes your feelings become insufferable, so the petals become more abundant. At least that's what I've heard."
"No one has ever gotten rid of them by themselves?"
"Not to my knowledge."
"I guess I'll be the first."
"You will," Hoseok smiled sadly, reaching over and brushing his fingers through Changkyun's hair as his voice began cracking. He placed his hand over the younger boy's eyes as the tears fell, whispering quiet assurances of "you're okay" and "it's okay to let it out" among others. It was when Changkyun started coughing that Hoseok got out of bed and led him to the bathroom. As Changkyun expelled the physical embodiment of his suffering, Hoseok sat behind him patting his back. Changkyun cried as the last petals fell, his stomach slowly growing heavy again.
"You know, it's best to sleep on your side. You can have dreams and wake up inhaling the petals. Some people haven't woken up at all and have died that way," Hoseok warned.
"Are you speaking out of experience?"
"I haven't died before so no," Hoseok joked, Changkyun turning around to punch him lightly. "In actuality, yes. Flower petals are a bitch to inhale and they're a bitch to exhale. You have to get them out of your lungs but that's easier said than done. It takes a lot of heavy exhaling and hacking that leaves you light headed. Some people have to get help from doctors."
"Who is it?" Changkyun asked suddenly.
"Hm, I forgot," Hoseok cackled. Changkyun punched him harder this time, turning back to face the toilet bowl as he started gagging. As he started expelling petals again, Hoseok finally spoke.
"It would be best I don't say who. For you and for me. I'm here to take care of you, not to fight you for who gets first dibs on the toilet bowl," Hoseok answered, joking gently and patting Changkyun's back once more. Changkyun pretended he didn't hear the slight quiver in Hoseok’s voice. As Changkyun's stomach completely emptied once more, he sighed in relief when his stomach didn't immediately start to grow heavy again, pushing himself to his feet and flushing the toilet. Hoseok sat on the floor, reaching up and grabbing Changkyun's hand to pull himself up. They returned to bed, Changkyun turning his back to Hoseok and Hoseok faced the ceiling.
"Goodnight," Changkyun said, just wanting the day to end.
"Goodnight," Hoseok replied softly. Changkyun felt a wave of sympathy wash over him as he felt Hoseok turn onto his side, now knowing the meaning behind the seemingly simple motion.
The next morning, Changkyun woke to the sound of Hoseok retching. He shot up in bed, quickly rushing to the bathroom to Hoseok's side. The sight of Hoseok sat on the tile floor while clinging to the toilet bowl weakly tore at Changkyun's heart. Hoseok was always so strong, always helping him and comforting him. It broke his heart to see the one person he felt was the strongest in such a position. He sat behind Hoseok, similarly to how Hoseok had sat behind him the night before and pat his back gently. As time passed, Hoseok finally finished purging the flowers from his system. He turned from the toilet bowl, reaching for toilet paper and wiping as his mouth gently. Changkyun gulped, tears pricking his eyes as he processed the dark red staining the paper.
"What does this mean?" he asked hoarsely. His blood felt like ice in his veins and his heart hammered wildly. He took a deep breath, his chest feeling tight. Hoseok held his hand up in signal to wait as he spit a glob of blood out into the toilet.
"I woke up on my back. I had inhaled too many petals so this is because of that. I'm not dying Changkyun. This happens sometimes and it's okay because I didn't die. I could have suffocated but I didn't. So I always look at this as a positive thing. Don't worry, I'm fine," Hoseok smiled gently as he finished talking. He stared at the petals in the toilet before flushing and standing up. Changkyun stared in confusion as he glanced at the swirling petals, meeting Hoseok's eyes quickly. Hoseok bit his lip and turned his head to the floor, swallowing quickly.
"There are two types of lilies," Changkyun stated simply. Hoseok nodded. His hair clung to his sweaty forehead, eyes red and puffy. Changkyun felt his heart twist in his chest, finally processing that no one is strong all of the time.
"There are two types of lilies," Hoseok confirms.
"That means there are two people?" Changkyun asked. Hoseok nodded, running his hands over his face. He brushed his fingers through his hair, refusing to meet Changkyun's eyes.
"I don't want to talk about this right now," Hoseok said, "I'm here to help you. Not to talk about me. It's been years, I've gotten over it. There's nothing I can do but live with this."
"Have you ever talked about it or do you just avoid it like you're doing right now?" Changkyun’s words left his mouth before he could process what he was saying. As soon as the last word fell from his lips, his mind churned with regret. Why did he feel the need to push Hoseok to speak? Before he could even think of how to apologize, Hoseok snaps.
"Changkyun, stop."
Changkyun turned his head to the floor, muttering an apology before heading to the kitchen. The harsh tone Hoseok used replayed in his head like a broken record. He wandered around the small kitchen for a few seconds, lost in his thoughts. He sighed as he began making coffee, hands shaking slightly. He bit the inside of his cheek, regretting pushing Hoseok to talk. He leaned against the counter as he waited for the coffee to brew, mind swirling and eyes prickling with tears. He stared at the miniscule dinner table, the two chairs tucked in neatly. His happy plan of breakfast and video games useless. He created a situation where there was no simple happiness and he felt like he ruined their entire friendship. He decided he was being melodramatic and that he should apologize to Hoseok over coffee. Before the coffee even finished brewing, reconciliation came knocking.
"Hey, sorry for snapping at you," Hoseok's voice called weakly from the living room. Changkyun wiped his eyes quickly before turning and walking to where Hoseok was. The mess of Changkyun’s shoes sat in a pile by the door, Hoseok’ placed neatly beside the pile. On the arm of the couch laid Hoseok’s jacket, his apartment keys dangling from the pocket. Hoseok sat beside his jacket on the couch, elbows on his knees with his face in his hands. Changkyun found himself picking at his fingernails again, anxious to make up.
"It's not your fault, I was pushing you to talk and I shouldn't have."
"No, you were right. I don't talk about it. I avoid it. I never told anyone about it."
"Hoseok, it's fine."
"No. I need to talk about it," Hoseok whimpered, face still buried in his hands. His shoulders shook with every word, tears choking up his voice. Changkyun kneeled in front of him, stroking his hair gently.
"Take your time," Changkyun murmured, Hoseok taking ragged breaths before beginning. With a shaky exhale, he began softly.
“I guess I need to explain a lot. More than just who it is, it’s who they were to me. I don't think I will be able to explain everything though. I don't think I can handle that today. Forgive me,” Hoseok began, voice cracking between sniffles. Changkyun kept running his fingers through Hoseok’s hair gently, hoping to comfort him in some shape or form. He held his tongue to assure his curiosity wouldn’t cross a line, and Hoseok continued. “We were the best of friends through thick and thin. We started as childhood friends and it always felt as if we were closer than the other kids. When I was in my third year of college when we finally started dating. We dated for two years and talked about living our lives together and our plans for our future. He was sweet and perfect and everything was going great. We had only lived together for three months when he started growing distant and a month after that the flowers started appearing. I hid them from him for the longest time. I was afraid that if he knew, he would realize that he didn’t really love me anymore. That would be the end. So I kept it a secret and hoped I could make him fall back in love with me. I tried everything but he didn’t seem to care anymore. He had started to say we were better as friends, that maybe things were better the way they used to be. One day he came home and found me purging the petals. He grabbed his stuff and left as if that’s what he was waiting for. It was like he wanted to see flowers to assure himself that he truly didn’t love me anymore. He sent me their wedding invitation a year later. The tiger lily is for him. Confidence. I’m not sure what the fuck that means but I’ve been told the flowers reflect on either you or the object of your affections.”
“Tiger lily,” Changkyun hummed quietly to himself, standing to lead Hoseok to the restroom at the sound of him gagging. He sat beside the older boy as the petals spilled from his mouth, the orange of the mass of tiger lilies dominating the white of the others. Once he finished, Hoseok leaned his head over to Changkyun, resting on his shoulder. The silence was filled with Hoseok’s ragged breaths before he continued.
“The other was a co-worker at the record shop I worked at. They knew of all of this and were helping me heal at the time. I fell so hard and so fast that I didn’t know I was even in love with them. That is, until the day I had a breakdown and called them in the middle of a date I had no idea they were on. They ended up showing up at my apartment later that night after their date but by then I had passed out. It just… broke my will and I went to bed that night knowing the risks and woke up in the hospital with them clutching my hand and apologizing the whole time. I had inhaled too many flowers and they had found me struggling to breathe in my sleep. The doctor told them I had two types of flowers and they somehow just knew the other was because of them. They apologized and stayed with me until I fell asleep. I never saw them again. Hell, I don’t even know where they went. That’s where I met Hyungwon. It was his second night as an ER intern and he had to help with emptying my lungs. When I woke up he was the one to tell me that my coworker said goodbye. He stayed with me and helped me heal and we stayed in touch. I trusted him so much I introduced him to all of you and here we are now.”
“Shit, I’m sorry,” Changkyun gulped. He felt his eyes well with tears at the thought of how long this had been going on. Hyungwon had been introduced into their friend group two years ago, sleepy-eyed and grinning. Hoseok had introduced the dorky boy with a smile, claiming Hyungwon had saved his life when he was hospitalized for a severe case of the flu. Changkyun remembered Hoseok wrapped up in his scarf with a face mask on and how hoarse his voice was for a couple of weeks. It all made sense suddenly and he felt tears well in his eyes.
Hoseok hung his head, turning to the toilet and leaning over it silently, waiting with tears in his eyes. He sat there for a solid minute before the retching began. Changkyun stood up with a soft ‘I’ll be back’ as he rushed to the couch to rummage through Hoseok’s jacket pocket for the honey candies. He returned with a handful, offering them to the now empty Hoseok who accepted with a sad smile.
“White lilies represent humility,” Hoseok said gently, popping two candies into his mouth and tucking one into each of his cheeks.
“Cute,” Changkyun reached out and pinched the older boy’s cheek, smiling sadly and pulling away.
“Can we have some ramen for breakfast?” Hoseok asked.
“No way, you freak.” Changkyun laughed, standing and pulling Hoseok up with him.
“It feels good on a sore throat,” Hoseok whined, jamming his shoulder into the giggling boy.
“Whatever,” Changkyun teased, rushing to fulfill the request.
“What do delphinium mean?” Changkyun asked Hoseok at work a week later. Curiosity had been eating him up since Hoseok had told him the flowers could possibly represent someone. Hoseok looked up from his arrangement, biting his lip as he fidgeted with the ribbon spool.
“Infinite possibility if I remember correctly,” Hoseok said reluctantly. Changkyun raised an eyebrow, causing Hoseok to shrug with a “Hell if I know what it means to you.”
Changkyun leaned over the counter, having happily offered to help Hoseok out with the shop for the day since his boss would be out for the week and his coworker he was supposed to share the shift with called in sick. The shop was homely and warm, the flowers bloomed beautifully. The windows of the shop took up the entire wall that faced the street and were decorated with live flowers. The flowers were arranged just so, the colors and shapes set up beautifully. The ceiling of the shop had exposed beams with rows and rows of plants hanging from them. Changkyun wondered if Hyungwon would hit his head on a hanging pot if he walked in. The shop also had cute tables and benches for customers to wait comfortably, and the coffee shop next door shared the open patio for customers to relax in. Hoseok took pride in showing Changkyun the decorated patio that he did all on his own. While the shop was beautiful and quaint, the flowers all released their unique scents in the small space. Changkyun didn’t realize just how strong the scent of flowers was in the shop when he had volunteered and the once pleasant smell was suddenly overwhelming to the point of a headache. Regret seeped from every pore to the point that Hoseok had offered for him to just leave but Changkyun made a promise and he was going to keep it dammit. As Changkyun sulked on the stool with his head resting on the counter, he watched Hoseok work. Hoseok huffed for the billionth time and rearranged the floral arrangement within the vase before pulling them all out to start again.
“Changkyun, what’s missing from this?” he whined, gathering the flowers and holding them out.
“I don’t know? A flower?” Changkyun scoffed, laughing when the older boy reached out to punch his shoulder. “Fine, fine, try yellow chrysanthemums.”
“You said no to those earlier,” Hoseok growled. He tossed the spool of ribbon before adding the flowers and positioning them just so within the arrangement. “There, it looks great!”
“Yeah, yeah, but when do you ever get customers?”
“Around lunchtime is when we get the most customers but most are either online or over the phone. Our usual customers are business owners and real estate agents who buy in bulk. Not many people buy flowers for the hell of it anymore,” Hoseok sighed right as the door chimed with the arrival of a customer. Changkyun perked up from his slouched position, plastering on a welcoming smile.
“Welcome,” Changkyun called out happily before tossing the spool of ribbon teasingly, “Oh it’s only you.”
“Shut up, I’m a paying customer brat,” Jooheon scowled, bending over to pick up the fallen ribbon. The brim of his cap covered his face as he bent over but Changkyun knew he was smiling widely.
“Place an order then,” Hoseok sighed as he placed the vase by the other displays. He quickly pulled a pen and notepad from his canvas apron, waiting patiently as Jooheon pulled out his phone.
“Yeah, I don’t know names but these are Jungmin’s favorite flowers,” Jooheon smiled, holding out a picture on his phone.
“Red dahlias, okay. Do you want a vase or a normal bouquet?” Hoseok said quickly. His demeanor changed and all he focused on was rushing to get Jooheon out of the store as Changkyun’s face paled.
“What’s more romantic?” Jooheon grinned, resting his elbows on the counter. He bat his eyelashes cutely and flashed his dimples. Hoseok tried not to cringe at how lovesick Jooheon was. Changkyun’s hand rested on his knee, knuckles turning white as he gripped at his jeans.
“Bouquets, Jungmin likes bouquets,” Changkyun spat out quickly before rushing to the restroom.
“He has to shit, he’s had the runs all day,” Changkyun barely heard Hoseok fib, Jooheon cackling as he easily believed the excuse. Changkyun hid in the staff bathroom for what felt like hours heaving until Hoseok came to tell him that Jooheon had gone. With a gentle pat on the back and a candy from his pocket, Hoseok had easily comforted him and they returned to their previous engagement.
“Stop doing that,” Hoseok snapped suddenly, pointing his finger at Changkyun. He fought the smile that threatened to spread across his face as Changkyun’s face warped with surprise. He couldn’t help but find the younger boy adorable when he was confused.
“What?”
“Clicking the candy against your teeth, it’s annoying.”
“Like this?” Changkyun’s expression changed from confusion to mischievous in a split second, the clicking of the candy growing louder exponentially.
“STOP!”
“When did you two get so close?” Minhyuk inquired, a devious smile on his face. Kihyun nodded, leaning on the table awaiting their answer. Since three weeks ago, duh. You already know this but you just want details about why. Changkyun fought the urge to quip back, instead shrugging and teasing back.
“When he started buying me food and someone else didn’t,” Changkyun teased.
“Yeah, you’ll stay close with him. I’m not spending my money on you,” Kihyun sneered playfully. The noisiness of the table didn’t seem to bother anyone else in the bustling burger joint. Hyunwoo silently listened to each of the conversations at the table, dropping one to listen in on another. Hyungwon, however, was viciously fighting off sleep as he chewed lazily. Changkyun fought to keep in his laughter every time he glanced at the always exhausted ER resident. He preferred to laugh at Hyungwon dozing off as he chewed instead of focusing on the happy couple a few seats down. It kept his food down and his stomach from filling too quickly with flowers. Kihyun and Minhyuk sat next to each other across from Hyungwon and Hyunwoo, laughing loudly at Hyungwon’s mid-meal nap. Hoseok sat across from Changkyun, munching happily on his fries and dipping them into Changkyun’s milkshake. Changkyun smiled at Hoseok’s full cheeks as he ate, mentally comparing him to a chipmunk.
“How’s work, Hoseok?” Kihyun asked suddenly. Minhyuk listened intently and Changkyun knew something was up. The two of them would only ever gang up in conversations if they wanted information, and Changkyun figured they wanted an answer to their previous question.
“Pretty good. There have been more orders lately in preparation for Valentine’s day, but other than that it’s been normal,” Hoseok said simply. Changkyun groaned internally at the older boy’s easygoing manner. He obviously didn’t have any suspicion as to why they were suddenly asking about work.
"I heard Changkyun has been helping you out. Is the shop going to hire him?" Minhyuk butted in. Changkyun suppressed the urge to stab him in the leg with his fork. As much as he loved his friends, they could get extremely nosy. They wouldn't band together to simply get information for the two of them, but to inform the whole friend group. It got annoying quickly and often led to petty arguments.
"Yeah, they actually really like his help and organization. He's really good at caring for the plants growing on the roof. The owner just offered him a full time position," Hoseok explained with a full mouth. Kihyun rolled his eyes at the messy sounds of chewing as the older boy spoke.
"Next time finish chewing before you talk. The way food falls out while you babble is so gross," Kihyun groaned, "Changkyun, are you going to work with Hoseok? You'll make more money there than you're currently making working at both the convenience store and internet cafe."
Changkyun rolled his eyes before answering, "I'm taking the job but will still work sometimes at the internet cafe. The lady who owns it usually needs help with late night shifts on the weekends. It's really busy then and usually the younger workers don't want to work those shifts."
"That's really nice of you," Minhyuk says quickly, a genuine look of surprise crossing his features. "I'm happy that you're getting a better job. I remember you mentioning that you were looking for a full time job."
Before Changkyun could reply, the attention of the entire table turned to him.
"Oh, you found a job Changkyun?" Jungmin called from the end of the table. Hoseok started shifting in his seat slightly, pushing the rest of his fries around on his plate. Minhyuk turned his gaze to Hoseok, a slightly concerned look crossing his face. The rest of the table waited for Changkyun's reply as he swallowed roughly. His stomach stirred instantly, the sound of Jungmin's voice sending shivers down his spine. The way Jooheon's arm rested around Jungmin's waist made Changkyun's breath catch in his throat. The second Changkyun’s mind would begin to admire Jungmin, the sight of Jooheon was always a harsh reminder that he had no chance. More than not having a chance, he had a feeling of deep shame. Jungmin was dating Jooheon, his best friend. It felt shameful and almost like he was betraying Jooheon’s trust.
"Yeah, Hoseok's boss offered me a job last week. The person who usually shares shifts with Hoseok quit so I'll be working the same shifts as him," Changkyun explained. Jungmin smiled happily, responding with how happy they were for him before nudging Jooheon gently. Changkyun felt his heart wrench at how Jungmin's smile widened as they met eyes with Jooheon. His stomach grew heavier as Jooheon took their hand in his, intertwining both of their fingers before clearing his throat slightly.
"Speaking of job offers," he started, Jungmin giggling as he paused, "I've been offered a job with a label.. They want me as a producer and composer and want me to work for them at their Busan branch to work with their trainees." As soon as he ended his sentence the table burst out in congratulations. Amidst their cheering, Hoseok stood from his seat abruptly and rushed to the bathroom. Minhyuk turned to Changkyun, both exchanging  looks of confusion. The rest at the table continued with their conversation with Jooheon, discussing details and plans. At the mention of Jooheon and Jungmin moving in together, Changkyun felt as if he would burst right then and there. At that very moment, Hoseok stood by his seat, clutching his stomach.
"Hey, Changkyun, could you take me home?" Hoseok whined. The conversation halted, focus suddenly on Hoseok.
"What's wrong?" Kihyun asked worried. Hoseok pointed at his leftovers which consisted of only a small pile of fries. His two empty burger wrappers and two fry containers littered his spot, his milkshake sucked dry.
"I ate a really big lunch and ate too much just now, I feel sick. I threw up so I'm gonna go," he answered, tossing his car keys to Changkyun. Changkyun stood, exchanging goodbyes quickly as Hoseok hurried off towards the exit.
"Text me if he's still sick in the morning, I'll drop off some medicine and food," Kihyun called after Changkyun, the rest of the table returning to their busy chatter. Changkyun rushed outside and into the driver's seat. As soon as the car had pulled out of the parking lot, Hoseok released his stomach and turned up the radio.
"My place please, Mr. Chauffeur," Hoseok grinned, leaning his seat back and crossing his arms behind his head.
"You were faking it?"
"Yeah, of course. Jooheon had already told me so I knew where the conversation was headed. I had a plan before we even showed up. If I noticed you weren't taking the conversation well, I was gonna get you out of there and that I did," Hoseok said simply, closing his eyes to enjoy the music.
"Thank you," Changkyun said softly. Hoseok opened his eye to glance at him before closing it once again.
"It's nothing really," Hoseok answered. A few minutes passed by in comfortable silence before he spoke again.  "I also wanted to be able to talk to you one-on-one and ask you something."
"Well, fire away."
"Have you ever thought about, you know, getting the memory wipe?" Hoseok's arms shifted to cross over his chest as he spoke. His features shifted from relaxed to thinking. He chewed on his lip, waiting patiently for a response.
"Well, I have but I don't know much about it. No one really talks about these things, you know?”
"Yeah, I get you. The wipe is a permanent solution though. Basically, they sedate you and it's almost like hypnosis. They first get your mind to go through every single moment you're supposed to forget and then start erasing it all. During the procedure, they make sure you're getting rid of the flowers safely. Reliving the memories causes the flowers to appear in abundance and it really takes a toll on your stomach and throat. After it's all done they put you into a medicated coma for a week or so to let your brain form the connections it's lost, along with letting your throat heal, and then you're released. Some people have no choice but to get the memory wipe. They inhale too many petals and have to go into surgery to remove them, and then they get the memory wipe. That's rare though, they don't see too many of those. At least that's what I'm told."
"That doesn't sound too scary," Changkyun mumbled, turning onto the street Hoseok lived on. As he pulled into Hoseok's usual parking space, the older boy turned to him with a serious look on his face.
"Listen, if Jooheon takes that job, I think it'd be the perfect time for you to get it done. That's only if you want to though, I'm just giving you an option."
"I'll think about it," Changkyun groaned, stepping out of the car and heading into the apartment complex. Hoseok rushed out, scrambling behind him.
"You don't have to, just remember that," Hoseok pouted, trying to take the keys. Changkyun pulled them away, a teasing smile on his face. Hoseok’s pout grew as he tried to snatch them away quickly and failed every attempt.

I'd also have to bike 20kms each way to work otherwise. I was quoted between 6000-8000$ /year despite no accidents, tickets and choosing a relatively cheap car to insure.""

My boyfriend and I have our car and house insured under State Farm, but apparently they have a zero tolerance policy and have dropped him from the insurance. My agent was saying something about 're-evaluating' at some point in the future, but he was being so rude to me about it (I wasn't the offender) that I didn't really listen, and have no interest in staying with State Farm (at least with that agent). I assume if State Farm has a 'zero-tolerance policy,' they're not the only company that does, so what companies would insure us? We understand that we'll have to pay higher premiums, which is fine, since it's the consequence of his actions. I'd just rather not go with some cheesy insurance like The General or Safe Auto.""

Why is my insurance so high?
So I am 21 years old working part time as a supervisor with a certain big brown shipping company. I am making decent money, and was, at the time, driving a really high mileage 1998 explorer that got terrible MPG and was nickle and dimeing me to death, so I decided to go look for a new car. The car I found, was a 2011 Suzuki Kizashi S. It had really high safety ratings, the car itself was in very good condition (the previous owner was a little old lady who I actually got to meet because her nephew was the car salesman I bought it from, who even brought me all of the paperwork on the maintenance she had - impeccable maintenance record I might add), and the average highway mpg, is double that of my explorer. However, I made a mistake of not confirming what my insurance rate would change to when I called State Farm over the phone to have my coverage changed to the new vehicle, and now here I am paying triple what I did for the explorer. I don't get it, how does a little 4 door sedan w/ awesome safety ratings and all that jazz cost me $224 a month to insure, but a 4WD fully loaded explorer, in Colorado, that I had since I was 17, was only like $63 a month. I mean, I understand that a vehicle that isn't paid off yet is going to have higher insurance thanks to the lender requiring full coverage, but I don't know ANYONE around my age paying this much except for a guy I work with who drives an Acura and got a massive ticket for going a buck 20 in a 45 speed zone and now pays like 350 a month. Is there something particular about this car that I wasn't aware of? It's a great car, but the huge insurance cost is really hurting what I'd planned to be able to afford per month on top of my other bills.""

Insurance premium after an accident?
So I was in an accident last week. It was a minor fender bender and was my first accident in the 9 years of driving I've had. I got a ticket for careless driving from the cop and I only did a small dent in the other car's bumper. My car however took a decent amount of damage and is currently being fixed. What I'm wondering is how much should I expect my insurance to go up from this? I currently pay around $900 a year and use progressive insurance.

How can I sort out this car insurance issue in the UK?
I've been living in the UK doing some studies for 3 years. When I came to the UK, I didn't know how to drive a car. Also, I found it difficult to pass the driving test in the UK and afford private driving lessons. Few months ago, I went for a 3-month holiday in my original country, Egypt. There, learning how to drive is much easier and less expensive. Besides, issuing a driving license is not so difficult as the theoretical and practical tests are not so complicated. Therefore, I decided to learn and get a national license. Based on this license, I could issue an international one from Cairo that allowed me to drive in some countries one of which is the UK. However, when I returned to the UK and decided to by car, I found a proper one for 550. I decided to buy it, but I was asked to go online to get a quote from a car insurance company. I spent the whole night trying all the websites that my friends told me about. The shocking fact is that many of them refused to give me a quote because I hold an international license, not a UK one. Even those websites which accepted that requested a huge amount of money (i.e. not less than 1, 200-1, 600) which is much higher than the price of the car itself. I wonder if there's a way to sort this out or if there's any alternative solution that saves money for me. I don't want to go through any further driving tests in the UK. Also, I don't want to provide wrong data (e.g. having a full-UK license). Your suggestions are highly valued (serious answers please as I really feel down!). Thanks so much in advance!""

Car insurance claim?
Around a month ago already my passenger side car window got shattered. It's still intact, just completely spidered out. I had been on my thirty minute break from work and parked near the grass side of my apartments. My window was actually rolled down half way too. While inside my apartments ( we live on the first floor very near to where my car was parked) I remember a guy mowing the lawn around the apartments. When I went back outside to go back to work I had saw my window. We know for a fact that the lawn mowing guy ran over a rock and it had hit my window, but we didn't actually see it. Again, my window was rolled down a bit so if someone wanted to break in they could have. I have called the apartments on several occasions and they said they would get back to me on the lawn mowing company so I can make a claim. Still never have. This was almost a month ago. What can I do? If anything since I didn't physically see it? I also only have liability coverage on that car.""

Do I need to insure my car before getting a temporary registration?
recently purchased a used car that DOES require emissions testing. In my state (CT) the DMV offers 10-day temp. registration for vehicles that need testing Do I need to insure this car before I'll be eligible for the 10-day registration? I'd prefer not to insure a car that won't pass emissions because I won't be able to drive it, and I refuse to wait in line at the DMV for hours just for answers on this questions (their website gave very few specifics)""
