[ CHALLENGE ]: sender challenges the receiver to a sparring match/actual fight.
Of all the people for Novus to approach with the intention of a spar, Lunafreya had not expected herself to be one of them. It had been quite some time since she had the chance to enhance abilities taught in preparation of the ascension, it was past due that she experience the thrill & rush of a good fight ; but for it to be her son had been.. a surprise.
❝ Are you sure you wish to do this, Novus? ❞ Not that she doubted Novus' stubbornness, a trait oh so thoughtfully gifted from his father. The child could barely warp properly, the risk of harm was far greater. Luna wasn't exactly sure if she were prepared to bear hurting the child she so pathetically cared for with all her being.

𖤐Pairing: Husband! Ghost x Wife! Reader
𖤐Pronouns: She/Her
𖤐Warnings: fluff, language, kissing, married couple, children, more use of Simon than Ghost, protective Simon, a worried and caring mother,
𖤐Summary: Y/n and Simon’s daughter Luna is having a hard time being able to see, in school her teacher notices a few signs and has a talk with the parents to discuss about possible glasses for the child
————
Tumblr media
————
“Mr. and Mrs. Riley, please come in,” Luna’s 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Anderson has called both Y/n and Simon to the school to talk to them about their daughter.
“Is everything okay with Luna?” Y/n asked, nervously.
“Oh yes, she is doing just fine, grades are amazing but ummm~ I wanted to talk about her writing…”
“What’s wrong with her writing?” Simon asks.
“Oh it’s nothing bad but we usually have our annual spelling bee on Fridays and well. I’ve noticed that her handwriting it’s a bit…odd.”
“How odd?” Simon sounded offended.
“Simon.”
“Oh no I understand how that may sound but I mean it in no disrespect Mr.Riley…well…here this was from Luna’s test last week…I have a hard time grading it because of the poorly written handwriting.”
“I see,” Y/n says examining her daughter’s work.
“I mean I could read it but it was hard for to notice if she spelled it right or not…I’ve also picked up on how she writes…she writes with her face very close to the paper to be able to see…does she have glasses or anything?”
“No, we were never told that she may need them.” Y/n places her hand on Simon’s. “Luna’s last check up with the doctor was just a month ago and he never said anything.”
"Could we just see if she needs them? I don't want her falling behind or struggling later on."
"Of course," Y/n says.
"What the hell does that teacher know," Simon and Y/n walked hand-and-hand down the hall.
"Simon, don't cuss in a school," Y/n warns him.
"Shouldn't we know what's best for Luna?"
"Simon, if she's saying she's worried we have to take that into consideration, I'll take her to the optometrist Saturday and we'll see," Y/n says.
As they walked to the front office they saw Luna, she sat in a dark blue chair looking at a poster on the wall, she squints her eyes like she was trying to see. Y/n's heart clenches in her chest knowing the teacher maybe right.
"Luna," Y/n coos for her daughter. She looks at Y/n and Simon getting off the chair and running to them both.
---------
Luna sat in her car seat humming the song that was playing as Y/n pulled into a parking lot.
"Mama, where are we?"
"We are at the doctors."
"The doctor?" Luna hated the doctor like every child does.
"Just an eye doctor baby," Y/n gets out of the car and comes around unbuckling her daughter. She places her on the ground and Luna grabs Y/n's hand as they walked through the doctors door.
Almost immediately they were greeted by a young lady from behind the desk.
"Hi, I had made an appointment with Doctor Avery."
"Luna Riley?"
"Yes," Y/n says.
"Ok, follow me," the lady gave Y/n some paper work to fill out as Luna saw some glasses. She walks up to them and picked up a small light pink pair.
"Careful with them, baby," Y/n says as Luna just put them back and sat next to her mom.
"Mama, why are we here?"
"Your teacher, Mrs. Anderson says you are having a hard time seeing, she moved you up to the front because you told her that you couldn't see from the back seat."
"Yeah," Luna says, looking over her moms arm and seeing her fill out the paperwork. "I can see mama."
"Luna, how many finger am I holding up?" Luna is holding up 4 fingers.
"5?"
"4, baby."
"I was close."
"Yeah, but you need some baby, who knows maybe you just need them to read and not for distance," Y/n says.
"Luna Riley?" Y/n stood up grabbing her purse and waiting for Luna to take Y/n's hand.
"Luna Riley," Y/n repeats.
"Follow me," the man says with a soft smile. They walk to a back room and Y/n places Luna on a chair with paper on it.
"Okay, Luna have you ever had glasses before?"
"No," Luna says and shakes her head.
"Alright, that's okay," he says. "Mom you had wrote down that she can see far away but it's mainly close up, right?"
"Correct," Y/n says.
Okay, now, Luna I am going to run some tests on you, and ask some questions, okay?"
"Okay." Luna was nervous, she's never been here and it's a different and new environment she's not use to.
"When you look at things close up, do you get headaches?"
"Sometimes," Luna says.
"Are they bad headaches where you close your eyes?" Luna nods.
"Do you get cloudy vision?" Luna shakes her head.
"It's like...fuzzy," Luna says. Doctor Avery kept asking Luna and Y/n questions, and then Doctor Avery had move onto the tests.
Shining a light in her eyes to see her pupils delight, and making her follow the light and also making her seeing if she could see certain letters.
"Can you read the bottom line for me?"
"It's blurry, I can't see it."
"Okay, that's fine. What about this line?"
"Can't see it." The lines kept getting bigger and bigger till Luna was finally able to read the line. "B...F...E...Z...O?"
"Okay, good, here...Luna can you read me the third row?"
"F...E...Z...A? T."
"Okay, okay, good," Doctor Avery then gave her some weird looking glasses. Adjusting them to see if Luna could see clearly with a certain lens over her eyes.
"Okay, Luna tell me if lens A or lens B is better."
"A."
"Okay...lens B or lens C?"
"C."
"Alright, lens C or lens D?"
"C."
The test went on for a little bit as Doctor Avery listened to Luna and what she could and could not see. As Doctor Avery took notes for Luna and what proper lens she will need.
Now it was time for Luna to start her glasses picking. Luna sat at the small wooden table with glasses spread out in front of her. Some bright and colorful and other dark colors.
She picks up the small light pinks one from earlier. She puts them on and looks in the small mirror in front of her and turned behind her looking up at Y/n.
"Mama, what about these?"
"They look so cute on you, baby," she smiles as she bends down, her hand on Luna's back and the other resting on the table helping Luna decide which ones she wanted.
"How many do I get mama?"
"Two pairs."
"I want the pink and yellow," Luna says.
"Alright, we will get the lens in them and by Monday they should be good, would like us to mail them or would you like to come and pick them up?"
"Pick them up should be good," Y/n says as Doctor Avery took the pink and yellow pair to the back.
---------
Simon sat at the kitchen counter with Luna, she was trying to read but had a hard time.
"Luna, baby don't hurt yourself, go take a break," Y/n says as Luna closed to the book, hopping off the stool and going to play with her toys.
"When do those glasses come in?" Simon asked.
"Tomorrow, which reminds me, could you take her? I have a meeting tomorrow."
"Sure, my love," Simon says, walking to Y/n and kissing her lips.
-----------
Simon had picked up Luna after school, and immediately took her back to the eye doctor. Simon held Luna on his hip and walked through the door.
Luna smiles and they walk to the counter.
"Hi," Simon's deep voice booms.
"Oh, hello, sir, how can I help you?"
"I have an order to pick up."
"Yes of course, name?"
"Luna Riley." Simon then places Luna on the counter as the girl gets the glasses and places them on Luna's face.
"Do they need to be readjusted?"
"Yes," Luna says, taking the glasses off.
"Are the lens alright?"
"Yes," Luna then looks at Simon. Simon smiles at his daughter. "I can see you daddy," she says, which just melts Simon's heart to hear that from his daughter.
"I'm glad, baby," Simon says, cupping her face and kissing her forehead. "Thank you."
"Of course, have a good day," the lady smiles as Simon took his daughter back home.
---------
"MAMA! MAMA! LOOK AT MY GLASSES!!" Luna yells excitedly as she runs into the house.
"Oh my baby, can you finally see?"
"Yeah, mama you have a pretty face," Luna places her hands on her moms face making Y/n's heart clench in her chest and she kisses Luna's cheek making her laugh.
----------
Going to school the next day, Luna was nervous what the kids in her class will think. Luna sits in her chair in front of the class and some kids saw her glasses and went up to her to see them.
You'd think these kids have never seen someone with glasses before from how they acted.
"Luna are those new?"
"Can I see them?"
"Can I wear them?"
"How many fingers am I holding up?"
"Can you read?"
The questions kept coming and Luna would answer the best she could, none of the kids were being mean, they were just being like curious little kids, asking questions.
"Luna, I see you have glasses now," Mrs. Anderson bent down to Luna's level. She's glad Y/n and Simon took her advice that Luna may need glasses, most parents would have ignored Mrs. Anderson's advice.
"Yeah, I can see now," Luna says with a smile.
The whole day was Luna just being happy she could properly see now, Mrs. Anderson was going over the new spelling words for Friday.
Luna was excited that she could see and when going home, she told Simon about her day and how she was able to finally enjoy quiet reading time at school because she could see.
Luna use to not read during reading time because she couldn't see the words and her face would be shoved deep into the book, but now it was away from her face and she could read the words just fine.
"I'm glad you had a good day, baby."
"Me too, daddy." Luna says with a smile on her face as she ate her snack in the back of Simon's truck and drinking her bug juice (y'all remember those?)

Can you do a Max blurb where Max arrives home from a double header and notices that the house is very quiet and has no view of Jimmy, Sassy and Luna and he goes to the reader's room and sees her taking a nap and leaves the room to the playroom and see Finn and Julia also taking a nap but with the cats snuggling between them and then the reader wakes up and sees this scene together with Max
The cats were the first ones to greet him, especially Luna, the kitten phase very present as she would run to the door to see who it was that got home.
The house was quiet too, but Max sae your car in the garage, so you had either gone on a walk with the kids or you were still in the house and cats with you.
Walking upstairs, Max noticed the playroom door was open, taking a look inside and finding Finn and Julia napping on the soft play mattress you kept in there, Luna, Sassy and Jimmy all curled up in one corner. Walking to your office, he found the room empty and looking like you hadn't been there recently as everything was turned off, so he tried your bedroom.
The sight was somewhat ethereal to him. You had left the window open slightly so the curtains flowed with the wind as the sunlight illuminated your sleeping figure. You had on one of your summer dresses, and you looked beautiful, the sheets rustling as you turned around to face him, fists rubbing your eyes.
"I knew I felt someone eyeing me - though I must admit I thought it was Luna", you chuckled.
"She has mastered the judgmental side eye, hasn't she?", Max chuckled as he took your hand, helping you stand up before he could kiss your lips, "how was it been here with the kids and the cats?".
"We've been good, they said they were going to play but they fell asleep pretty quickly, and mama took advantage of that", you giggled, pulling Max to the playroom, "I'm not sure where the cats ar- oh", you whispered.
"They seem pretty comfy, don't they?", he mused, kissing your temple as you cuddled further into his embrace.
"They do, look at Sassy's paw near Luna's", you pointed out with a coo.
(Thank you for sending this in ✨️)

In The Break | Mat Barzal
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: the Barzal house is at its breaking point without their key member their to save the day.
request: yes/no
warnings: swearing, grammar that I think a four year old would use.
word count: 2.09k
authors note: this is officially probably one of my favourite (soft) things that I’ve written. Like I can’t get over how cute everyone is. But like weirdly enough I can’t tell if I acc like this so I’m just going to how that it had the luna stamp of approval.
Tumblr media
You didn’t think would had ever been more excited to have Mat back home as you were in that moment.
Tilly had been teething and James wanted his father at every waking moment.
Your energy was practically nonexistent as your one year old wasn’t sleeping through the night and that meant that you weren’t either.
It seemed that all three of you were at your wits end and as both kids were sat in the playroom with Tilly sporting her red swollen cheeks. James had gone on about how he couldn’t wait to see his father you knew you were being stupid but it hurt you hearing his praise as he had done nothing but spew the negative words that were in your four year olds Arsenal.
You tried to brush his hair wanting to get him ready for the day “I’m home!” Mat called out as he opened the front door making both kids turn their heads in the direction of him.
Before you knew it you were shoved to the ground as they both seemed to finally behave as they stopped their negative moods “hi baby!” Mat cooed as he crouched down and wrapped his arms around the boy.
Tilly waddled after her brother causing her father to gasp at her improved abilities at walking “where is mama?” The hockey player’s eyes lit up as he saw you tuck your hair behind your ears.
A smile formed on Mat’s lips as he so effortlessly held the children to his sides “hi pretty lady.” It seemed that he didn’t take note of the dark circles that lay under your eyes “was thinking we could go get ice cream with them?” His words cause the kids to cheer as Mat kissed your lips.
That was honestly the last thing you needed to hear. Both kids had won the battle of avoiding nap time until their father got home “Til hasn’t had her nap yet.” You pointed out with a sigh.
You weren’t expecting any shut eye during this time as Mat had been gone for two weeks and you did miss your husband. But you knew that if both kids didn’t try for their naps you would be the one to truly pay the price later on “they won’t be that bad.” As all three sent you a smile you couldn’t help but sigh as you nodded conceding defeat.
It was almost like you could have been a fortune teller. Tilly had cried herself to sleep as she was so grumpy without her teddy that not even Mat’s arms could put her mind at ease.
And your sweet little James had been sat on his fathers lap with every chance he could get.
So now you were not only sleep deprived but you were also feeling neglected.
Mat loved seeing how his kids looked up at him but as he held James in his arms and had Tilly in the carrier as you walked ahead of them to the front door.
Getting Tilly to sleep was easy as you simply placed her in her cot where Mat offered to take over in changing her into her pyjamas. James on the other hand began to have a fit as he realised that his father was nowhere in sight as you sat down on his bed with a book “daddy daddy daddy!” He complained kicking his legs “J daddy is with Tilly right now.” You sighed opening the book.
Yet that seemed to aggravate your son further “I want daddy not you.” Again you knew that James didn’t know the gravity of his words but in that moment you wanted to just break down.
You tried to ignore him as you began reading “I hate you momma where’s daddy!” Having children was another moment of learning how to bite your tongue and you had been doing so much better “you think I want to be here either!” You yelled back finally letting your anger go “I’m tired and for the last two weeks you have treated me like I’m not here!” As James flinched your eyes went wide.
Not once in the four years of being his mom had you ever raised your voice “J I’m-” before you could reach out to apologise Mat walked in “daddy!” James cheered.
Mat sent you a look of concern as you got up “think he wants you to read this.” You mumbled shoving the book into his hands as you let the door shut behind you “momma always said this was a book huh?” Mat smiled as he nestled into the mattress as James rested against him.
Guilt drowned you as you sat with your hands around your knees letting the warm water from the shower land on your back before the droplets slowly dripped down your skin. Tears painted your cheeks as you so badly just wanted to wake up and see that this was all just some bad dream “baby?” Mat called out as he walked into the bedroom.
It didn’t take him long to realise that you were in the shower “shit y/n!” Your husband didn’t care that he walked into the shower with all of his clothes still on.
In one quick movement Mat helped you up before he pulled you into a hug “Mat!” You cried as the hockey player reached behind you to turn the shower off.
Your tears soaked his shirt as you realised all the things you are frustrated about, not being able to make Tilly feel better as she teethed, James deciding that he hated you and how you let it get to you. But most of all how Mat came in and ruined the schedule you set with the kids.
Usually you wouldn’t have cared if they missed a day but you were tired and felt unloved and for that you let it irritate you today.
So you pushed Mat away as he handed you a towel “baby?” He was surprised to see the glare you sent him as you wiped your eyes.
Mat stood there with wide eyes “you went against me today.” The only rule you had about being parents was that you two had to remain united and that’s kind of hard when he ignores your scheduling.
He remained silent as you continued “how am I meant to keep it together here when you come in and play god or some shit becoming their favourites all over again.” You knew you were being stupid but it made you want to cry as you thought about it when your throat grew tight.
The hockey player scoffed “sorry that when I don’t see the kids for two weeks I want to go do something fun with them!” He felt like your statement was beyond aggressive as it quickly turned into a screaming match “Mat I told you that they needed to sleep and you still went with what you wanted!” Before he could even think about his rebuttal the baby monitor went off.
Tilly’s cries pulled your attention away from your husband “I would go but I’d hate to fuck with her sleep schedule.” Mat’s words had you rolling your eyes as you wrapped the towel around your body “fuck off Mat.” You spat shaking your head as you walked out of your room and down the hall to hers.
Her eyes grew full as she turned her head to see you “hi my love.” You cooed picking her small body up letting her head rest against your shoulder.
Usually you weren’t one for picking her up and rather just showing her that you were there but tonight you needed a hug from someone who seemed happy to see you.
So you two stood like that for fifteen minutes as your gentle swaying of your body caused her to finally settle “good night my girl.” You placed her back into her crib before you brought your fingers to your lip kissing them before you let them press softly on her forehead.
The darkness of the hallway back to your room reminded you of the state that of chaos that you had left Mat in.
You nervously chewed at the inside of your cheek before you took a final deep breath and pushed the door open.
Mat seemed like a shell of himself as he had the baby cam in his hand as he replayed the footage of you humming some random rhyme as Tilly fell asleep “I never know how you do that with her.” Mat blurted out as you were always the one to save them when the kids woke up in the night.
It was a taken that Mat could never even fathom as he tried everything but most of the time their own tiredness would come back and bring them into a deep sleep.
Wanting to discard the towel you found one of Mats shirts that you had folded that morning so you put that on instead of your own clothes. You remained quiet as you brought the towel to the bathroom unaware of how Mat followed you “I don’t mean to always play good cop with them it’s just that I’m not always around in the season and-” Mat rambled on as he ran his fingers through his hair.
Now your guilt about lashing out at him came out “it’s fine babe.” You shook off his thoughts as you turned to face him “no it’s not.” It was clear that the hockey player wanted you and the kids around more than he got to see you “you’re their great mom and an even greater wife to me.” His hands wrapped around your neck as you hugged him.
Somehow that contact felt different to the one from thirty minutes ago. This time it was with love and care as he watched you smile when his lips pressed against your head “you deserve to be treated better than you are.” Mat had tried coming up with the lecture for James but he didn’t know how to do it without getting angry at his son.
Sure two years ago James was a total momma’s boy who refused to be with anyone who wasn’t you but Mat knew that if James spoke to him the way he had spoken to you, Mat would have lost it.
Maybe it sounded stupid but you had both gone through your insecure moments with the kids and you were now realising that “can we go to bed then?” You yawned finally wanting that sleep that you had waited so long for.
Mat laughed as he nodded “let’s go.” He watched as you pulled him out of the room back into your bedroom where your bed was a sight for sore eyes.
The next morning you woke up to the sound of giggles and Bluey blaring through the speakers of the tv downstairs. Mat wasn’t next to you so he had obviously woken up to spend time with the kids.
You yawned stretching out as you smiled to yourself letting your back comfortably rest on the mattress “momma?” A soft voice came from the door causing you to look up.
James stood there with his plushie that Tito had brought him back from Vancouver over the summer “hi J,” before you could say anything more your eldest was running into your room as he jumped onto your bed and quickly into your arms.
The sight warmed your heart “what is it my baby?” You cooed running your fingers through his hair “I love you,” James looked up at you with tears in his eyes causing you to frown.
Your finger wiped at his cheek “I love you so much love why are you crying?” You didn’t mean for your words to come out confused as you tried to soothe the boy.
James fiddled with your bracelet, a habit he picked up watching you do it when you were nervous “sorry I yell at you in room.” Your mom had told you that you were going to have moments where you knew you were a good parent and this felt like it was that.
You gave the boy a squeeze as you kissed the top of his head “I’m sorry too.” You mumbled with both you turning to the door as you heard someone walk up the stairs “you two got room for two more?” Mat asked as he pressed a kiss to Tilly’s cheek drawing a giggle from her lips.
The sight gave you so much joy as your heart felt full “always.”

A/N: AHH ty for my first request. I hope you like it xxx Also ignore the pictures idk why they are coming up in a weird order :(
Also Check out my poll for favorite kiddie from the fic
Tumblr media
BANG. You jump out of bed hearing something smash out in the kitchen. Immediately you turn to the side, seeing Carlos fast asleep beside you. He must have gotten in late last night and snuck in without waking you. You told him he should stay in Singapore and celebrate the win with the team, but he wanted to be at home with you and the kids. You rush to put your slippers on and move towards to where you heard the loud noise from. Peeking into the kitchen you see your oldest daughter holding a broom while your boy sits on the kitchen stool watching Elena with a guilty face. You step into the kitchen, catching Elena’s attention.
“Oh no, sorry Mama, I didn’t mean to wake you.”
“That’s okay amor,” you reply moving to Mateo and kissing his cheek, “but what are you doing up? You should’ve woke me if you were hungry, I could’ve made you something.”
“We saw Papa’s car in the driveway and wanted to surprise him for winning,” Mateo says looking up at you with the same big brown doe eyes his Papa has. You can’t help but break out into a grin, these kids really were the best.
“Well we would’ve been able to surprise you too if Mateo didn’t go and smash the bowl on the ground,” your daughter spills. You giggle lightly, she’s always been the feisty one.
You now move towards her, grabbing the broom from her hand “that’s okay bebe, I can help you both now and we can make Papa a nice big breakfast.” You split the kitchen; with you cooking the eggs and sausage, Elena on fruit cutting duty, and Mateo mixing the pancake batter, the only thing you were sure he wouldn’t mess up. God was that boy clumsy. Within 20 minutes, all 3 of you had the kitchen island filled with a gourmet breakfast buffet.
“Cmon you know the drill,” the kids groan knowing their mom has to take a picture to document this. They would look back and appreciate it you thought.
“Perfect” you say snapping a picture of them standing behind the plated goodies. “Okay you two go brush your teeth, I’ll wake Noah and Luna and then we can surprise Papa.”
As your oldest two kids scurry to their rooms, you head in the direction of your younger boy. You sit down on the bed next to him, “Morning Noah, time to wake up baby”, you say, lightly running your hand through his beautiful dark hair. The same brown eyes flutter open and close as he cuddles into his stuffed Lightning Mcqueen. Ever since Charles gave him that, they’ve been inseparable.
“Nooo still tired Mama.”
“Cmon, me Elena and Mateo already made breakfast and there’s pancakes for you,” you try bribing him. No reply. You try again, “Papa’s back.”
PAPA’S BACK?” He jumps out of bed and ontop you.
“Shhh yes bubba but he’s sleeping,” you say rubbing his back, “So let’s go get you ready and then we can surprise him.” Happy with this plan, you get your third child into the bathroom and ready and bring him out to the kitchen so Elena can watch him. You sigh, only two more to wake up.
You head back to your bedroom, joining Carlos on his side of bed, you lean down and press a kiss to his cheek, “Good morning race winner.” He slowly opens his eyes giving you a lazy smile as he pulls you down into bed with him.
“Morning carino, what are you doing up so early, come cuddle,” he says nuzzling his face into your neck, pressing light kisses along your shoulder. You lightly giggle while reminding him ‘Are you forgetting the house full of kids we have?”
You feel his smile grow against your shoulder, “I could never,” he jokes back, “I missed you guys so much.”
“We missed you more bub.”
You give yourself another 5 minutes to bask in his warmth while you can, just lying in his strong hold, feeling his hair tickle your ear. These are the moments you miss most every time he has to leave for a race weekend.
“Hmm, alright get up,” you peer over at the clock, “Luna’s gonna be up in 5 minutes, which gives you enough time to get ready, get her and meet me in the kitchen,” you say while pulling yourself out of bed. You drop another kiss to his cheek and as you walk out the door, you can’t help laugh while hearing Carlos groan and mutter “Yes ma’am.”
Back in the kitchen, Noah, Elena and Mateo all sit in the stools lining the island, waiting patiently for breakfast to be served. You’re surprised that they haven’t all rushed to Carlos in bed yet, they must really want to surprise him for the win.
“How long Mamaaaaaa, I’m hungryyyyyy,” Noah whines. There it is you think.
“Soon bubs, he’s just getting Lu.” Moving to the fridge, you grab Luna’s bottle, knowing she’ll be hungry the second she sees you and as you shut the fridge door, Carlos walks into the kitchen holding baby Luna.
“Surprise Papa!” Your kids yell running to Carlos engulfing him in a big family hug. You carefully grab Luna so he can give each of his babies a hug and kiss as they yell different congratulations his way.
He notices the breakfast feast behind them, “Did you guys make all this for me?”
“Si Papa,” says your eldest daughter with a proud grin.
Mirroring her smile, Carlos replies “Muchas gracias mi alma” and gives her another forehead kiss. You stand feeding Lu her bottle, just admiring the way Carlos helps each one plate their food and how the kids tell him everything they loved about the race.
“The DRS move to help uncle Lando was so good”
“You were going so fast”
“I felt bad for Uncle Cha”
“Was it hot”
“Is Uncle George okay”
“I knew you would win Papa”
That last one from Mateo has you tearing up (he’s always been his biggest fan), just seeing the beautiful family you’ve created and how happy the kids are. Carlos notices and comes your way, “Hermosa, why you getting all teary eyed on me hmm?” he says the same big brown doe eyes filled with concern.
“I’m just so proud of you and so happy that we could be celebrating together. Thank you for coming home,” you look up at him through your glossy eyes.
He wraps an arm around you, leans down and places a slow delicate kiss on your lips. Pulling back, he rests his forehead on yours and smiles, “Te amo carino, I’ll always come home to you.”
A/N: omg why did this turn out so adorable. I need Carlos in my life😭. Also please leave any suggestions/feedback on what you liked and didnt

Spoilers for Puss in Boots: Last Wish (specifically Perrito) below
My bff and I were talking about this last night, but I figured I’d write it all out here: one thing I really do appreciate about Perrito is that while other characters may see him as naive and innocent, the film never treats him as overly naive or foolish.
The best example of this is when he’s explaining his backstory. It would have been SO easy to have him be still searching for his family/litter mates, believing firmly that they still wanted him/were still playing ‘hide and seek’. If they’d done this, then Perrito really would have been an extremely naive character (as well as all the more unnecessarily tragic). It also would have been easy to have this be Perrito’s wish, as well as the lesson that he needed to learn - that he doesn’t need his former (and incredibly crappy) fam, and that he can/should move on from his tragic backstory, letting himself be with his new friends instead.
But the film doesn’t go this route... Because Perrito has already realized and internalized this lesson.
Think about it. For as much as he may seemingly still see the whole ‘swim in the river’ incident as an extra challenge to a game of Hide ‘n Seek, outside of the “Guess I’m still It!” joke, Perrito doesn’t dwell on the fact that he never saw his family again. Just as he never dwells on nearly drowning. He only brings up his past when others ask him about it, otherwise he’s only focus on the present - which is why he’s so satisfied with things to the point of not needing a wish.
When it comes to his backstory, he instead just sees the brighter side of things regarding it (getting a new ‘sweater’ that he was able to grow into) and focuses on moving forward and meeting new friends, instead of going on an endless search for those who left him behind. Even while he’s at Mama Luna’s, he still tries to socialize with the other cats - though he backs off when they hiss at them, still understanding that he isn’t exactly well-liked there.
What’s more, it’s made VERY clear that Perrito’s tendency to trust in people without hesitation is not out of naivete: it is out of choice. He knows that people can be cruel (we see him briefly get scared of Jack Horner and the Bears when he gets kidnapped, even if he ends up making friends with the latter) and he knows that he can’t exactly fight back against that, being such a tiny dog. But he’d still rather give people a chance instead of just hiding away from the world. He never tries to claim that every person has some good in them or anything like that, he simply states “well, you have to trust somebody”.
What really drives this point home - aside from the excellent advice that Perrito gives throughout the film, showing just how thoughtful and wise he is, even when he seems totally clueless in other moments - is his moment in the film’s climax with Jack, where he’s finally able to do the cutesy eyes. The joke is how Jack is ‘dead inside’ and would never fall for such a ploy, and how Perrito is (or rather, would be) dumb for thinking that simply being cute would stop this heartless bastard.
But the twist is that Perrito already knows this. There isn’t a moment where it’s shown that he thinks this act will work. No, Perrito meant it as a distraction the entire time - he wanted to try and help, and he trusted his friends to catch on and take the shot once the distraction worked. And I freaking LOVE THAT! I love that Perrito is so much more than just ‘diet Donkey’ or ‘innocent and naive dog that doesn’t know how the real world works’.
He knows how it works, he just chooses to still see the bright side in things in order to improve others’ lives as well as his own, because there’s a difference between naively trusting people who haven’t proven themselves and just giving people a genuine chance to be your ally/friend. And I’m just so happy that Dreamworks not only made a character like this but just did a fantastic job writing him.

i think sometimes we forget that pandora was a mother, and let me tell you, she was also a big mess of a mother. but she tried.
when she realized that, because of her belly, she couldn't fit in her favorite clothes anymore, she punched xenophilius in the face cause it was "his fault";
when she went into labor, she was so scared that she asked the doctors if it was possible to keep the baby inside her a little longer;
during the first months of luna's life, when she did nothing but cry every night, xenophilius removed all the mirrors from the house to prevent pandora from freaking out because of the dark circles under her eyes;
and when luna once threw the spoon with food at her, pandora cried all night thinking luna did it because she was a horrible mother.
in the end, when luna's first word was "mama", she was so happy that she almost asked xenophilius to have another baby, and he had to beg her to wait at least a couple of years.
he was so exhausted. he loved her so much.
also, i think pandora was tragically obsessed with her daughter, she loved to buy her cute little clothes, and for her first birthday she gave her something like 30 gifts. she wanted luna to have a perfect life.
she tried to be a perfect mum, but luna often made her angry (she was a hyperactive child). but then she found out that biting xenophilius helped her calm down, and he started going to work every day covered in bruises (his colleagues were worried). so, when luna grew up to be the calmest girl in the universe, he almost cried of joy.
they are so cute help.

Maeve hummed a song mindlessly as she poured hot water into the teapot. Golden dried flowers swirled inside, releasing a soothing aroma that mingled with the symphony of herbal scents already filling the conservatory air. It was such a peaceful time of day. The kids were either studying or napping, and Keith was about to take a quick break to join her there. Sharing these little moments with her husband made her chirp like a bird. The tea was brewing. The galettes were crispy. The fruits were fresh.
Everything was perfect…
…Until Maeve heard a tiny little hum echoing her own.
She stopped immediately, and the voice quieted a second later. Her green eyes darted around, intrigued and scanning the familiar surroundings; the usual plants were all in their places. There wasn't even a breeze to disturb the stillness of the leaves, and it was only birds that made a cheerful fuss here and there. Just as Maeve began to suspect she was imagining things, a rustling sound caught her attention, and behind a flowery shrub, she spotted another pair of green eyes, so similar to her own.
“Luna?” She hurried toward the little girl who was clumsily trying to hide, only for her to duck further behind the plant. Maeve felt her heart clutching inside her chest. “Sweetheart, what's wrong?”
Maybe the urgency in her voice made the girl realize how serious she was. Or maybe it was just curiosity. When the child stood up and they were face to face, Maeve saw that it wasn't understanding or curiosity that had made her look up. The poor girl was scared too. And she definitely wasn't her Luna.
“Oh…” Maeve took a step back, giving room for the little one to reveal herself completely.
Nothing but a dirty pair of knitted stockings covered her little feet. Shabby and yellowed, they disappeared under the hem of her plain, colorless woollen dress. The girl rubbed her reddened eyes before letting Maeve get a good look at her face again. She didn’t have many freckles, but the patterns of the ones she did were all too familiar to Maeve.
“Lady, do you know what this place is?”
Maeve looked up at the glass ceiling. Of course, for a girl who had never left her small village, being suddenly transported to a distant time and place was strange enough. But to find herself in a conservatory — a huge glass cage filled with plants, some she had only seen in the wild, and others she had never seen before — must have been overwhelming. Maeve herself didn’t know how the girl ended up there, but soothing a child's mind was more important than unraveling her own confusion.
“This is a conservatory. It's a nice place, isn't it? We can take care of plants in here, even the ones that are too rare or too fragile to be outside in the weather.” Maeve’s words made the child furrow her brows, so she giggled to try to lift her spirits. “It took me a while to get used to it, too. I’ve always thought nature belonged in the wild. But the plants enjoy it here too.”
The girl still looked at her with suspicion in her eyes, and Maeve wondered if she herself had always carried such an intense stare. It suddenly didn’t matter, however, as the girl bounced toward the table like a curious little bird. She held onto the edge and stood on her tiptoes, taking in all the different pastries, juicy fruit, and the steaming teapot.
“Would you like to have tea with me?” Maeve offered, but the child emphatically shook her head. “Oh,” Maeve said, her mind suddenly filled with nostalgia. “Mama told you to refuse food from strangers because they might be fairies trying to entrap you, right?”
“Do you know mama? You were humming the lullaby she sings to me…”
I do,” Maeve replied, crouching down to her eye level. The girl was still suspicious and scared, the poor thing. Maeve had to take a deep breath to hold back her tears as she spoke the next words. “You're Mabel and Bruno's daughter. They're shepherds. You have a little lamb named Rose, you gave her this name because roses are your birth month's flower.”
“Who are you, lady? I’ve never seen you in the village…” she mumbled shyly. “You are a fairy, aren’t you?”
“Well, I’m not a fairy, nor do I have any interest in entrapping you, but while you’re here, you should at least take a seat, okay?”
The child nodded slowly, and Maeve smiled before pulling out a chair for her. As she sat down, Maeve noticed a small spot of blood on her right stocking.
“Are you hurt?” Maeve asked gently.
The girl lifted the hem of her dress to reveal a scraped knee.
“I fell from the oak tree,” she lamented. “I couldn’t climb it, and I tore my stocking. Mama will be angry with me.”
“No, mama won’t be angry. She’ll be worried because you’re hurt, that’s all,” Maeve said with a soft laugh. “Do you mind if I tend to it?”
“You would?” The girl’s little face lit up. “Can you fix the stocking too?”
“Sweetheart, your wound is more important right now.” Maeve served the tea just to dip a napkin in it. “It’s calendula. It tastes delicious, but it can also prevent your wound from getting infected.” The girl flinched when Maeve tried to put the napkin on her scraped knee, but Maeve smiled reassuringly. “And best of all, it doesn’t hurt. Will you let me?”
“Okay…” the girl murmured with half-trust, but it was still enough of trust for Maeve to carefully start cleaning her knee.
“You know,” Maeve began, “that oak tree was too tall for you right now, but you were so brave for trying to climb it.” She smiled to herself. She had started talking to distract the little one while she tended to her scraped knee, but now she realized she was searching for the words she would tell her younger self if she could turn back time. “Many people will tell you it’s better to be safe rather than brave. Some will say it out of worry, like mama, but many will say it because they think they know your destiny. They’ll tell you, ‘You’re a peasant girl, you can’t dare to be anything else.’ But you’re going to be so many things you can’t even dream of now. Life is… really, a strange thing. The Goddess takes us to places where we feel like we don’t belong, like this conservatory. But we’re never where we’re not supposed to be. In the end, only the Goddess knows our destiny, right?”
“Right…” The little one blinked a few times before nodding.
Maeve knew it was too much for her to understand at once, but she hoped the girl would remember her words when she needed them most. She took her own clean handkerchief and tied it gently around the girl’s knee.
“Are you MH?” the girl asked, looking down at the handkerchief. “I’m learning letters, and those are the letters of your monogram, aren’t they?”
“Yes, yes you’re right! I’m MH.” Maeve nodded, as she touched the embroidered monogram on the handkerchief.
“My name has an M like yours. I’m MS! But I don’t have a monogram,” the little girl said, more at ease than before. “Yours is beautiful.”
“You’ll have one. One as beautiful as this, you'll see.”
Finally, they shared a smile — an honest, warm one. Without warning, the girl threw her arms around Maeve, hugging her with all her little might.
“Thank you, Lady MH! I don’t know who you are, but I feel like I know you somehow,” the child said cheerfully.
“I’m the Queen of Jade,” Maeve replied, gently holding her back. “And you, my dear, are the very soul of this kingdom. The prince in the woods will recognize that within you.”
When Keith arrived in the conservatory, he found his wife with her dress lifted to reveal one of her knees, her head bowed as she traced an old, faded scar with the tips of her fingers. She had once told him she got that scar as a child when she tried to climb an oak tree that was too high for her.
“Mae… Is everything alright?” he asked softly.
She nodded and looked up at him. There were tears in her eyes.
But she smiled.
And it was one of the most radiant smiles he had ever seen.

explaining the polycule ~ jegupandalily microfic
"So - forgive me for asking, but every time there's a PTA meeting, it seems like someone else shows up as Harry or Luna's legal representative." The headmistress of the local primary school rubbed the base of her nose. "And as such, we, the school, have asked for Harry's parents to come to the office. Is… is this everyone?" James looked around at the group of people sitting at in the office.
"Yup, think so." He nodded. The elderly teacher sighed deeply.
"Ok, who are you all, please? Start from the left, I guess. I do not understand how two toddlers can have six parents."
"Oh, well that's pretty simple." Pandora beamed. "I'm Pandora Lovegood, Luna and Harry's mami. If it helps in any way, I'm also married to their mama."
"That's me." Lily interjected. "Hi, I'm Lily Evans, the kids mama, and I'm married to James, their baba."
"Wait - you're married to their… mami… and their… baba?"
"Yup." James smiled at the lady. "I'm their baba, James Potter - Harry got his surname from me, we decided. I'm their papa's husband."
"Wait… their papa?"
"That's me." Regulus raised his hand. "Regulus Black."
"… ok so from what I understand, everyone here is married to everyone."
"Pretty much, yeah."
"What about you two?" The lady sighed, looking over at Sirius and Remus. "Are you also married to everyone?"
"Ew, no." Sirius shook his head. "Just to each other. I would never marry my brother, despite what my mother might expect of me." The lady blinked confusedly, but seemingly decided not to divulge into the subject.
"And what is your relation to the children?"
"Oh, godparents." Remus replied. "Remus and Sirius Lupin-Black, if you're noting any of this down by any chance."
"Why do I even bother." The lady dropped her pen. "You can all go, I need a moment to process the information I've just recieved." James shrugged, and the six of them made their leave.
