Poll time! What's your personal headcanon for the proto-portal accident?

Do you believe that Jack and Maddie felt guilty or thought that Vlad was mad at them and that's why they never visited him in the hospital?

Or do you think that they actually did try to visit him, but weren't allowed in the hospital due to how contagious and unknown the ecto-acne disease was, and Vlad just didn't know about their attempts at visiting? Or they tried to visit but Vlad wouldn't let them in because he was mad at them at the time (and then got mad they didn't reach out later)?

Meanwhile, over in main story land, I'm trying to figure out how I want to approach the broader/longer story.

My original plan was to keep everything in a single fic that just grows absurdly long, where there are arcs, then lulls/timeskips between.

But increasingly I've been thinking about having a hard cut-off for Resonant and having the next story live in its own fic.

Pros of splitting it up:

It's easier to understand what the self-contained arcs are. For Resonant, this would be from the day the twins woke up, until either the end of the Stepstones conclusion, or just before (in which case the Stepstones arc would be its own story). My guess is that this takes us to something between 300-400K words, not sure exactly.

It provides natural breathing room. I can spend some time exploring other AU concepts, or take a break to write the next thing for 2-3 months so that I have a massive buffer like when I first started posting Resonant. (I believe I was midway through ch13 when I started posting it.)

It lets me mark Resonant as complete, which means people who have been putting off reading it because it's a WIP can read it, knowing they're getting a self-contained story.

I can sprinkle in some short stories between the larger stories, which unlocks some interesting POVs or events.

I can write Rhaegar POV for the "next" long story without it being weird to suddenly introduce it after around 200K words.

Cons of splitting it up:

Inevitably gonna lose people when posting something new. Sequels are never as popular as the original.

The timeskips are more delineated, meaning it may be harder to incorporate smaller, meaningful moments in between. For example, Daemon and the twins going on a winter retreat in the Riverlands. Granted, this could be a short/medium story instead, but I always feel weird doing that for things that don't have much of an action plot.

It can be harder to follow/find everything if there are many smaller stories in between the longer ones.

It's really cool to get a work to 500K-1Mil words, and this doesn't allow that.

I have to come up with new titles 😱

Welp I’m bored and I wanna post something so here’s my contribution for the day:

This is actually the earliest version of Gwendolen I ever created; originally her name was Dalia Atherton and she was a Gryffindor. Her background was generally the same; orphaned, no memories, except this version was from London and raised in a standard orphanage, not a convent like Gwen was. Having her in Gryffindor also meant that she was exceptionally closer to Garreth and Natty in general, and was a member of the Gryffindor Quidditch team as a Seeker. I also liked having her in the same house as Professor Weasley as it gave them something to bond over. This character, unlike Gwen, was not in a love triangle and instead was in a relationship with Ominis Gaunt; her relationship with Sebastian was more of a brother-sister dynamic, as she reminded him a lot of Anne. Her dynamic with Imelda Reyes was also very different; they had the more traditional Slytherin-Gryffindor rivalry and despised each other immensely.

I ended up changing this as I wanted to focus on the dynamic between Sebastian, Ominis, and a female Slytherin character….but I lowkey miss this girl and wonder if I should rework her story and start from the ground up with her 😫😫 also just wanted an excuse to post these commissions done for me by @whoisflattery !!!! Their work is incredible and I highly suggest reaching out to them for commissions!
