((Oh, right...about this post here. Completely forgot about some other muses i got that i don't really like shipping. Like, Amadeus is indeed one of them because of him being aro/ace, but a few more do come to mind.
Those would be (and i'm sure i'm forgetting again), are the following:
Mercedes
Luciano Santos
Just those two, and for good reason, they're married. Happily so, at that. Now, if you want just as friends, that's cool; we stan platonic ships in this house, but just...expect any advances from a muse to be either be taking with a polite no or increasing defensiveness, as in 'Um?? No??? How DARE you??? Tu eres estupido o tanto? Vete, gracias y por favor. :)'))

❀𝒔𝒕𝒖𝒅𝒚𝒃𝒍𝒓 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒐❀
Hi there! My name is Phi, I’m from the UK and I’m currently studying a Linguistics and Languages degree. My dream is to become a Speech Therapist (also an author, translator and language teacher on the side - I have a lot of dreams, and most of them are about words!) ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚
why have I made this blog?
Since I am a distance-learning student, it can sometimes be difficult to find the motivation to study so I really hope this blog will hold me accountable and keep me productive.
I also really admire the studyblr & langblr communities and hope to make some friends who are similarly passionate about all things languages! ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚
what languages will I post about?
Languages I speak/ am currently learning:
♡ English (Native/ C2)
Posts will be tagged #english and/or #english resources
♡ Castilian Spanish (intermediate to advanced/ B2 -> C1)
Posts will be tagged #castellano and/or #recursos castellano
Please note: I refer to the language as Castilian/ castellano instead of Spanish/ español out of respect for the co-official languages of Spain and also to recognise the language’s divergence from its Latin American variants
♡ German (Beginner/ A2)
Posts will be tagged #deutsch and/or #deutsche Ressourcen
⭒ I will make posts expanding on my background with each language soon ⭒
Languages I hope to start studying soon:
♡ Scottish Gaelic
I intend to begin independent study of Gàidhlig in September - October 2024 and I’m so excited!
♡ Russian
My friend and I are going to begin buddy learning Russian in March 2025 and I can’t wait!
♡ Catalan
I’m so excited to learn Catalan but, given its similarities with Spanish, I don’t want to confuse myself. So I intend to start learning it when I have finished my degree in May 2027!
⭒ If you have any questions or advice for me based on these languages, please don’t hesitate to drop me an ask or a message ⭒
Other languages I’m interested in (warning: there’s a lot):
♡ Irish, Welsh, Scots, Cornish, Manx, Greek, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, Icelandic, Dutch, Italian (especially Sicilian), Cherokee, Navajo, Guarani, Xhosa, Afrikaans, Korean, Yiddish, Hebrew, Bengali, Basque, French, Monegasque, Portuguese, Arabic, Ladino, Old/ Middle English, Hawaiian, Cantonese
What are my other passions?
♡ Books and poetry (I have a book blog @phireads if you’re interested)
♡ Writing
♡ Fibre arts (mainly knitting, crochet and sewing - though I really want to try embroidery and beading)
♡ Baking
♡ Reading
♡ Language conservation
♡ Wildlife (especially British, especially birds)
♡ Period Dramas
♡ History (with a focus on fashion history)
♡ Classics (as in Greco-Roman, my study buddy is a marble bust of the Greek poet, Homer, who is the namesake of this blog)
⭒ That’s all for now, I’ll be regularly posting study content at the end of September with the start of the academic year. So excited to meet you all! ⭒

Get to know me (ask game)
So, ummm, I’m finally getting back to this after @recentadultburnout tagged me all the way back in August, which I’m ashamed to admit I haven’t answered to in all this time. I never forgot though, so here I finally am, six months later, doing it after all. Hope it still counts!
Rules: bold the ones that are true and tag 10 people to do it.
APPEARANCE
blonde hair // I prefer loose clothing to tight clothing // I have one or more piercings // I have at least one tattoo // I have dyed or highlighted my hair // I have gotten plastic surgery // I have or had braces // I sunburn easily // I have freckles // I paint my nails // I typically wear makeup // I don’t often smile // I am pleased with how I look // I prefer Nike to Adidas // I wear baseball hats backwards
For a brief period around 7th grade, I liked to wear makeup and nail polish before I realized they’re really not for me. In general I’d say I don’t really give much of an effort to my appearance, which is why almost nothing is bold in this section.
HOBBIES & TALENTS
I play a sport // I can play an instrument // I am artistic // I know more than one language // I have won a trophy in some sort of competition // I can cook or bake without a recipe // I know how to swim // I enjoy writing // I can do origami // I prefer movies to tv shows // I can execute a perfect somersault // I enjoy singing // I could survive in the wild on my own // I have read a new book series this year // I enjoy spending time with friends // I travel during work or school breaks // I can do a handstand
I play the piano and the guitar, and many years ago I used to play the violin, but I was never good at it.
I speak English, German and Spanish fluently, and I’ve been learning Chinese for just over two years. I’m also currently trying to learn Portuguese, Russian, and Thai, but I haven’t gotten very far with those yet.
The number of new book series I’ve read this year depends on your definition. I’ve read the new volumes of 2ha and Heaven Official’s Blessing that have come out, if that counts. Other than that, I read Judy I. Lin’s A Magic Steeped in Poison and A Venom Dark and Sweet (if a duology counts as a series), two amazing fantasy books set in China and based on Chinese traditions like tea-brewing. And then there was a German fantasy trilogy by Marah Woolf called Wicca Creed.
I travel sometimes, but it really depends on the circumstances. I still travel with my parents sometimes, but I very rarely enjoy vacation with friends for some reason.
RELATIONSHIP
I am in a relationship // I have been single for over a year // I have a crush // I have a best friend who I’ve known for ten years // my parents are together// I have dated my best friend // I am adopted // my crush has confessed to me // I have a long distance relationship // I am an only child // I give advice to my friends // I have made an online friend // I met up with someone I have met online
I loved @recentadultburnout’s comment on this, and because I relate so much, I will put their quote here: I have been single all my life, actually. Not even a single crush. Probably an aro.
I’m still friends with my neighbor, who I’ve known all my life. Also some friends from school I’ve known for that long.
AESTHETICS
I have heard the ocean in a conch shell // I have watched the sun rise // I enjoy rainy days // I have slept under the stars // I meditate outside // the sound of chirping calms me // I enjoy the smell of the beach // I know what snow tastes like // I listen to music to fall asleep // I enjoy thunderstorms // I enjoy cloud watching // I have attended a bonfire // I pay close attention to colors // I find mystery in the ocean // I enjoy hiking on nature paths // autumn is my favorite season
I’ve probably watched the sun rise more than once in my life and just can’t remember because I was a child or something, but the only time I consciously remember was this August when I went to China for a summer program and our group went to climb Lao Shan, a mountain near Qingdao.
Tumblr media
I love rainy days and thunderstorms, but mostly when I don’t have to leave the house and can watch from a warm, dry place.
I often have trouble falling asleep, so I usually listen to my Sleepy Songs playlist or watch Bob Ross.
In real life, I don’t really pay attention to colors, but @respectthepetty has taught me to at least do it in BLs.
I think the ocean is hiding more things than we can imagine, considering we’ve only explored about 5% of it.
I don’t enjoy sports, but I like hiking (even though I don’t do it a lot) because it’s very calming and you can just let your mind drift.
MISCELLANEOUS
I can fall asleep in a moving vehicle // I am the mom friend // I live by a certain quote // I like the smell of sharpies // I am involved in extracurricular activities // I enjoy Mexican food // I can drive a stick shift // I believe in true love // I make up scenarios to fall asleep // I sing in the shower // I wish I lived in a video game // I have a canopy above my bed // I am multiracial // I am a redhead // I own at least 3 dogs
I think it’s different in the US (and this particular point feels very American to me), but I live in Germany and here you usually have to be able to use a stick shift to get your license.
I sing in the shower, but only when no one else is home.
This was fun! I don’t know enough people to tag 10 of them, so I’ll just throw some tags into the wild and see who feels like doing it (no pressure, of course): @ellaspore (who I haven't talked to in way too long), @biochemjess, @majestictortoise, @respectthepetty, @firstkanaphans

Goals
I saw this challenge mentioned on twitter and figured why not join in. I'm just going to be talking about my main languages for the time being, if you're curious of my others please let me know!
Korean
For Korean, I have been studying it a very long time without very clear and solid goals. Only recently have there been some starting to appear for me.
Read Crimson Heart's Prologue ㅡ I recently got a copy of Le Sserafim's Antifragile. It came with a prologue for their upcoming webtoon. Although it does release this month, I would like to postpone reading it and improve my Korean so I can read the prologue first.
Obtain KSI's Cyber Korean Intermediate 1A Certificate ㅡ I would like to do 2 lessons a week in order to complete this. As these are framed to be about 50 minutes each, i will schedule an hour twice a week to go over them, maybe another period on the weekend for review.
In addition to these, I do want to start posting more in Korean so that I can more real time output and practice. On twitter, I have started tweeting in Korean every now and then however they're very short and not very useful. Whether it be a diary/journal or just random bits, I do hope to start doing so.
Portuguese
Attend Favela's Exchange Night ㅡ A Brazilian cafe in my city holds an exchange event every friday evening. I would like to attend at least once and hopefully make connections with other Portuguese speakers. To prepare, I would like to start responding to some sort of prompts or keeping some sort of audio log so that I get speaking practice and work on my pronunciation.
Play Games w/ Davi ㅡ Davi is my friend from Minas Gerais, I used to play Minecraft and Overwatch with them a lot when I was younger. At the time, we really only spoke in English. Now that I am taking Portuguese classes, I'm hopeful that eventually I will be able to speak with them in Portuguese. To prepare for this, I will start watching more content in Portuguese. At the moment, I watch a lot in Korean or Japanese so hopefully this switch will allow for me to build up more game related vocabulary.
Russian
Complete One Year of the Flagship ㅡ Recently, I changed my major and quit learning Japanese academically. While dealing with my emotions and thoughts around that situation, I joined the Russian flagship program offered at my university. I joined the Japanese program with a fair bit of knowledge and after a bit over two years, I was still really discontent and unsatisfied with my proficiency. With Russian, I have essentially no background except for looking at the Cyrillic alphabet. This I feel gives me the opportunity to really see and prove to myself how far I am able to go with a consistent and intensive schedule. I would also like to see how far I am able to develop my speaking abilities as it is often severely underdeveloped for me in languages.
Find Interests ㅡ At the moment, I don't really have anything relating to Russian that involves my hobbies or interests. I would like to eventually find things, even if they're outside of my current interests so that I can feel more motivated to study and pursue Russian longer.
Spanish
Obtain DELE or SIELE Certificate ㅡ I feel like Spanish is definitely a key language to learn not just professionally but within my own personal circle. A lot of my friends and community members speak it as well as a lot of content for my interests being in it as well. I feel that setting out to take a certification test will push me to be more motivated to consistently and sufficiently learn it.
Converse w/ Nando ㅡ Nando is one of my friends that I've met recently from Nicaragua. Within out friend group there's not a lot of people that speak Spanish, this also sometimes limits getting to hangout or understand things sometimes as his other friends only speak Spanish. For both of these goals, I am trying to find a sufficient resource or class for Spanish along with supplemental materials, at the moment I have a few textbooks so if I choose to commit to those, I am going to try keeping an audio log and journal/writing log so I can get enough output.

Writing Advice Bilingual Characters
As some of you (who read my reviews) already might have noticed, I am bilingual myself. Sadly, multilingual people do not get represented well a lot in media, so yeah... some advice for writing them. It will certainly not capture every aspect of being bilingual, but it might give you a first idea.
There are different ways to be multilingual.
People who grew up with more than one native language will almost certainly speak all of them fluently. Most of them have two (their parents’ language and their country’s language, or the language of one parent and of the other) but I also know a family where the children grew up with four native languages (the mother speaks Portuguese, the father Italian, they talk to each other in English, and live in Germany, where the children grew up)
Some people speak two or more languages, but cannot write all of them - especially when the alphabets are not the same, for example English and Russian or Arabic. This affects mostly children of immigrants.
Some people can read and write a language quite well, but are not good at speaking or listening comprehension. Those people often learned the language at school with a bad teacher or by themselves with books and apps.
Some people, again mostly children and grandchildren of immigrants, can read and understand a language, but don’t speak it. Mostly, the parents decided to not teach the child the language, and they learned it themselves by listening to their parents talk to relatives.
Confidence can play a big role in this. I understand the dialect of my grandparents without a problem, but I would never try to speak it. I can’t even imagine forming those words with my mouth, and it would sound terrible.
People who learnt a language at school can reach completely different levels of that language. I started learning English at age 6 and am completely fluent by now. Other people in my class barely understand more than easy conversations in English.
Most people will do their very best to hide their accents.
If the person is not a native speaker, but fluent in a language, their accent will be a mix of whatever they can find at the moment. Media is a big influence in that.
Since I watch more British than American TV, my accent sounds a bit british, too. When I watched “Call the Midwife”, I often even unconciously copy the accent of Laura Main. I don’t know why her, but my brain just liked it, I guess.
Also, we will use words, phrases and sentence structures from so many different sources.
People who learnt English through the internet (aka most of the younger generation) will have problems to not use swear words when actually being in Great Britain or America. They just do not have the weight for us, since on the internet they get used all the time.
I have never in my whole live heard a multilingual person switch languages mid-sentence on accident.
We will do it on purpose, though, if the other part of the conversation understands both languages.
Also, we will maybe say the word in another language if we forget the meaning.
Multilingual people that are not natives in the language they usually use in their day-to-day life (immigrants, for example) will often count and calculate in their native language. For example at a restaurant where they calculate the price in their head, they will probably do it in their native language.
Conversations with multiple multilingual people can be very different.
If one person only understands one language, they will probably try to include that person by speaking the language they share. I can say from experience, though, that if eight native Germans that have varying levels of English language skills will sit together with one introverted Turkish person with medium English language skills, they will go back to German quite often. It’s not nice, but sadly natural.
In general, people will try to speak in their native language if possible. You can take two people that share a native language and also both speak English and let them walk around in London - they will probably speak their native language, no matter how well they speak English.
Multilingual people that share multiple languages will switch on purpose when they feel like they can express their thoughts better in the other language.
Many languages have taken words from English.
Especially young people take a lot of English filler words and phrases (or insults) and put them into their native language. “Help, mein Deutschlehrer überfordert uns mit Hausaufgaben, like, what the fuck, glaubt der wir haben nichts besseres zu tun?” Is a sentence you would absolutely hear from a German student.
Many young people that don’t live in Great Britain or America will not use these words and phrases around their parents. First of all, our parents often do not speak English as well as we do, but more importantly, our parents do not like us using English instead of ur native language.
Many professions nowadays have an English name, I don’t know why. What used to be a Hausmeister is now a Facility Manager. The longer the English phrase for your profession, the more likely you will not be taken serious by older people.
Once you have more than one native language, you learn new languages more easily, for some reason. I know a girl that speaks 7 languages, at age 20, 5 of them fluently.
"You speak English quite well” or phrases like that said by a native speaker can be the best compliment ever, or more uncomfortable than nice.
When you are translating for your family and hear that sentence, it is super nice.
When you are only speaking English, that sentence indicates that your accent is still heavy. You do not pass as a native speaker.
When you are a native speaker, that sentence is just weird.
You can indentify the people that learnt a language through reading by giving them words that are pronounced untypically.
For years I thought “precious” (a word that is heavily used on the internet, especially in fan communities, but not that much in school) was pronounces pree-ci-ous. I was shocked when I heard it for the first time.
There are situations where even quite fluent non-native speakers will not be able to understand or talk in their second language.
The first few minutes after standing up (although that can change when the person is really fluent)
When they are in great pain
When they are in great fear
When they are under great stress
Sometimes even when they did not use that language in the last few days
Translating in realtime is terribly hard and will fuck your head. When I was on holiday with my parents, I often had to read the information signs in museums or at sights for them and translate. It’s easier when you first read the text and then summarise it in another language, but trying to translate it sentence by sentence is painful and you will question your abilities in both languages.
This gets just more horrible when under pressure. While we were in England, a visibly stressed young woman came to us and asked us if we had 5 pounds, she had lost some money she needed to take the train back home. I repeated her sentence to my father. In English.
Also sorry to the poor worker at McDonalds who I talked English to while speaking German to my English exchange student.
People abroad will absolutely become friends with every person that they hear speaking their language. While being in London, we overheard a man talking to his son in German about taking a photo, and I immediately asked (in German) if I should take a photo of both of them together. We talked for fifteen minutes after that, even though we had never met before.
On that note, in tourist citys the people that try to sell things to tourists usually speak a lot of languages enough to say things like “Oh, I speak a bit of [language], too, but not well. Didn’t pay enough attention in school. You look like nice people.” Makes it so easy to sell things.
Idioms are literally hell. Best example has been in the news currently, with Greta Thunberg literally translating a Swedish idiom in a tweet not realising that “putting someone against a wall” means something totally different in English.
Idioms will be hell for you as a writer, too, though, as long as you do not fluently speak both of the languages or at least one of them is fictional, because it’s quite easy to mess up if you use idioms that jus aren’t normally used by people speaking that language.
Bilingual puns are amazing, but sadly rare.
Those are the things I thought of first... Maybe you can find some ideas or inspiration there for your characters, too. The best thing of course is to let someone proof-read your character if you are uncertain, but this hopefully already helped you a bit!

Speaking her language
For the charming @empress-writes 💙💛🧡💖
Hope you’ll like the story!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The South of France is a safer place for the Basterds, as they took a break after their last mission.
They were currently hidden in a remote cottage near the small village of Gassin. Its inhabitants were kind and helpful, which was a blessing for Aldo Raine and his men.
"No news from the superiors, Lieutenant?"
"Na yet, Donny. But ya can be sure that we're gonna heard about them, one way or another!"
"So, let's enjoy our free time!" happily exclaimed Hirschberg as he ate a piece of cake.
"Can you sometimes stop eating, you glutton?" admonished Andy.
"But Mrs. Dupin's pies are so delicious!"
As the others were gently chatting, Wicki was gazing at (Y/N) (L/N), the only woman in the group. He could not help but smile while looking at her as she read a book.
If you ask him, he would probably answer that everything she did was perfection. To sum up, he fell heels over head in love with the woman.
Of course, the other Basterds were aware of it and never missed an opportunity to tease him about his crush. Even Hugo loved taunting him!
Wilhelm's daydreaming was interrupted by Utivitch, who shyly asked:
"Hey, (Y/N)?"
"Yes, Smithson?" answered the woman with a gentle smile.
"What are you reading?"
"Oh, I was reading Les lettres de mon moulin by Alphonse Daudet. It is a French collection of short stories about Provence!"
"Okay... Wait, you understand French?"
She laughed.
"Uti, can you remind us what is my job here?"
"She is the translator, you dummy!" growled Hugo.
"Don't be so harsh, Stiglitz!" scolded Hicox.
"Indeed, I am the translator of the group."
"Of course!"
"By the way, how many languages do you speak?" inquired Omar.
A sly grin appeared on her face.
"What if we played a little game?"
"YES! A GAME!" happily screamed Andy, Michael, and Simon.
"Ouch! My ears!" grumbled Wicki.
"Okay, let's play! What are the rules, doll?" asked Donny.
"It's simple: I'll talk in a language to each of you in turn, and you have to guess how many languages I can speak!"
"Sounds good to me! Start whenever ya want, pretty!"
Suddenly, all the Basterds were quiet and waited for (Y/N).
While she was mentally choosing the first player, the other Basterds noticed the enamored gaze of Wicki towards the blonde woman. Time to play some trick on the suitor...
"I'm going to start with... Mr. Hicox!"
"I'm always ready, my dear!"
"Eres muy guapo. ¡Un verdadero caballero!" (You're very handsome. A real gentleman!)"
"Mmmmh... I would say that you speak Spanish!"
"Exactly!"
"And what did you say?"
"I told you that you were handsome, and you look like a real gentleman!"
The Basterds laughed and whistled.
"Well, milady, you're absolutely astonishing! Hearing you speaking Spanish is like listening to a nightingale!" answered the British spy with a seductive wink.
The young woman chuckled before asking:
"You sweet-talker! Alright! Who's next?"
"Why won't you ask Omar?" snickered Michael.
"Go to hell!" grunted the latter.
"Don't worry, Omar: it's only for fun. Are you ready?"
A charming smile came across Omar's face:
"Please, go ahead!"
"Okay... Nǐ hěn yǒnggǎn, wǒ hěn gāoxìng chéngwéi nǐ de péngyǒu!" (You're brave, and I'm happy to be your friend!)
Omar was puzzled.
"It does not sound like a European language..."
"You're right, it's not from Europe..."
"Mh, that's tricky... I don't know!"
"Give it a try!" she gently encouraged him.
The soldier scratched the back of his head:
"Er... Is it Japanese?"
"Sorry, but no. It was Chinese!"
"CHINESE? REALLY?" yelled Omar under the laughs of his comrades.
"Yes, indeed. I learned it when I was younger, thanks to my nanny who came from Shangai! And if you want a translation, it means that you're brave and I am happy to be your friend!"
"Alright... Well, thank you! It was beautiful! Especially when it comes from you!"
"You charmer!"
Wicki raised an eyebrow: he started to guess what his friends were doing, and he was not pleased...
"Fine, let's go back to the game, would you? The next one will be... Donny!"
"At your orders, baby doll!"
"Then, I start... Sei forte e affascinante! E amo il tuo sorriso!" (You're strong and charming! And I love your smile!)
"Ah, so easy! Italian!"
"Bravo! You're right!"
"And what did you mean?"
"I said Donny is strong and charming... and I love his smile!"
Donny put his large hands on his chest, faking to be enthralled.
"And she speaks Italian! Gosh, this woman is perfect!"
He blew her a kiss.
"Please, receive this proof of love from a Bostonian guy!"
Laughing at his antics, (Y/N) mimicked catching the kiss and holding it against her heart.
"Thank you, Donny!"
As for Wilhelm, he gets annoyed. He did not know if they were trying to woo her for real or if they were just pissing him off. In both cases, he hated them at the moment.
"Okay. For the next turn, I'll ask for... Lieutenant Raine!"
"Here I am, pretty woman!"
"Fine, let's go... 'ant qayid rayie qawiun washajae wajadhab jadana!" (You are an astounding leader. Sturdy, brave, and so attractive!)
"Uh, that's a tricky one! Sounds like the Cree language..."
"Unfortunately, Lieutenant, I don't speak Native American languages."
"Okay... So, is it Danish?"
"No."
"Hm... Perhaps Portuguese?"
"Wrong answer. It was Arabic!"
"WOAH!" exclaimed all the Basterds, impressed.
"God, you awe me! And what did you mean?"
"I was saying that you are an astounding leader and that you are sturdy, brave, and attractive!"
Aldo smirked and gave her his best seductive face.
"Girl, give me back my heart, would ya? You stole it since the first day!"
(Y/N) heartily laughed.
"Please, Lieutenant: you're a charmer!"
"Only for you, sweetheart!"
"Verräter!" (Betrayer!) gritted Wicki.
"Fine, let's go! I choose... Andy!"
"At your service, milady!"
"Okay, I start... Du är söt när du ler." (You're cute when you smile)
"Uh... Does this language exist?"
"Of course!"
"Okay, Kagan: use your brains... Ah, I know: Danish!"
"Almost..."
"Swedish?"
"Good answer!"
"Well done, Kagan!" laughed Archie.
"Thanks, sir... But I'm sure that if (Y/N) goes to Sweden, they would hate her!"
"Why?"
"Look at her smile: it's like the sun, the snow would melt in a blink!"
"Oh My God, Kagan! That was the corniest thing I've ever heard!" roared Michael as he clutched his sides.
"Well, I find it cute. Thank you, Andy!"
"You're welcome... By the way, what did you mean?"
"Oh, I said that you're cute when you smile!"
Kagan fiercely blushed.
"Thank you, Miss..."
"Pleasure is mine... Hey, Michael, do you want to try?"
"I never say no to a challenge, especially from a beautiful lady!"
"Let's see... Vy geniy i prekrasnyy chelovek." (You are a genius and a lovely man).
"Woah, Woah, Woah! What the hell is that language?"
"I assure you, this is a real language!"
"Uh... German?"
"NO!" answered Wicki and Stiglitz, offended.
"Calm down, guys! Okay, so if it's not German... It's Russian!"
"Bravo!" (Y/N) clapped happily.
"Wait a minute... If I did not miss the track, we know that you speak 6 languages! And I don't know why, but I think you know more!" said Utivitch.
"That's right! Okay, now, who wants to try?"
"I volunteer!" exclaimed Smithson.
"With pleasure! Let's see which language I use with you..." she wondered.
She got an idea and started to speak in a foreign language:
"Anata wa watashi ga imamade deatta naka de mottomo omoshirokute shinsetsuna hitodesu!" (You're the funniest and kindest man I ever met!)
"Ah, I got it! If it's not Chinese... It's Japanese!"
"Splendid!"
"Well done, chap!" laughed Simon as he applauded.
"Thanks, pal. And may I know the meaning of your sentence?"
"Of course! I said that you are the funniest and kindest man I ever met!"
"And they dare to say perfection does not exist! Obviously, they did not meet our lovely (Y/N)!" shouted Utivitch.
"Please, don't exaggerate!" blushed the young woman.
Wicki clenched his fists so tightly that his knuckles went white. He swore to God that they would pay for their antics.
"Okay, the next player would be... Simon!"
"Yes, ma'am! Always yours!"
"You trickster! Fine, try to guess this one... אני מאוד מעריך את החברה שלך." (I really appreciate your company)
"No... You speak Hebrew? The language of our people?"
"Indeed."
"But it sounds beautiful when it comes from you! Okay, you know what? After the war, I'll marry you!"
"Oh, Simon! Don't be so crazy!" she laughed.
"I'm already crazy in love with you!"
"And you say I am corny, Michael..." sneered Andy.
"Forget what I said!"
After she stopped laughing, (Y/N) declared:
"So, I think we had three players last. Well, let's the game begin with Hirschberg."
"Hooray! Here I am!"
"Alright! So, try to find this one... Jesteś uroczym żarłokiem." (You're an adorable glutton)
"Well, that's unusual! Er... I don't remember hearing this language before!"
"Give me suggestions!"
"It is a Slavic language?"
"Not at all."
Gerold sighed.
"Damn it, girl! It's a freakin' riddle!"
"Watch your language in front of a lady!" scolded Hicox.
"Don't worry, Archie: I've heard worse before!" said (Y/N) with a smug grin.
"Mh, I don't know... Is it Turkish?"
"Not at all, but I am currently studying this language!"
"Er... Nope, I don't know!"
"It's Polish!"
"My my, she is impressive!" chuckled Aldo as he took a bite of his bread.
"And what did you say?"
"I said that you are an adorable glutton!"
Hearing that, the other Basterds roared with laughter.
"AH AH AH AH! Well done, (Y/N)!" shrieked Utivitch.
"Hey, that's not fair!" yelped Hirschberg.
Upset that she would offend her friend, the woman apologized.
"I'm sorry if I hurt you, Gerold. I did not mean to..."
"It's alright, (Y/N). Likewise, I'll always forgive you!"
"Oh, why?"
"Because you are beautiful!" answered the soldier with a huge smile.
Relieved, she happily laughed while Wicki contained himself to punch someone's face.
"Okay, now, let's go on with Hugo!"
"I'm listening..."
"I'm sure you'll recognize this language... Du erinnerst mich an einen Wolf: einsam, mysteriös und faszinierend." (You remind me of a wolf: solitary, mysterious, and fascinating.)
"German, without hesitation!" smirked Stiglitz.
"Indeed!"
"And what did she say?" asked Donny.
Hugo stood up and walked towards her.
"She compared me to wolf. She said that I am solitary, mysterious, and fascinating..."
"(Y/N) got the point!" smiled Michael.
Stiglitz arrived near the woman and kneeled with deference.
"You won... I surrender to your beautiful voice! I could not resist you speaking my mother tongue with such delicacy!"
"Nice touch, Stiglitz!" exclaimed Archie.
"Oh, Hugo! You must be exaggerating: I'm pretty sure my accent was a disaster!"
"The only thing pretty is you, (Y/N)" grinned Hugo as he gently kissed the woman's hand... while he looked out of the corner of his eyes at Wilhelm with a roguish glance.
"Trottel!" (You jerk)!" gritted the latter through his teeth.
At the same moment, (Y/N) was amused by her friends' antics: they always treated her like a queen and were very respectful towards her. But this time, she felt that there was something else, like if they were playing a prank on someone...
"You guys are all amazing! But let's finish this game with the last player: Wilhelm!"
Hearing his name, Wicki snapped out of his anger and said:
"Yes, I'm ready!"
"Okay so, let's see if you will be able to find this one... Mon cher Wilhelm, tu es un homme courageux, loyal, et séduisant." (My dear Wilhelm, you are a courageous, loyal, and attractive man.)
The Austrian Jewish man smirked:
"Without any doubt, I would say... French!"
"Precisely! You had a good ear!"
"And what did you say to Wilhelm? I'm curious..." asked Hirschberg with a playful tone.
(Y/N) slightly flushed before answering:
"I told him that he was a brave, loyal, and attractive man!"
"How cute!" laughed Aldo.
As for Wilhelm, he was struck: definitely, he was in love! With a smug smile, he said:
"Merci beaucoup pour le compliment, jolie mademoiselle!" (Thank you very much for the compliment, lovely miss!)
(Y/N) was impressed by his hidden talent.
"Oh, what a surprise! I did not know you speak French!"
"I know a few... but I'm sure I would not reach your level!"
"Don't underestimate yourself!"
"Heck, she could give some “private” lessons, if you want!" smirked Andy while wiggling his eyebrows.
"Keep your dirty thoughts for you!" snarled Wicki.
"Okay guys, calm down! Now that everyone answered (Y/N), did anyone count how many languages she can speak?" asked Archie.
"I did sir! And she speaks in 11 languages!" replied Utivitch.
"11 LANGUAGES?" shouted the others.
"Indeed, you counted well, Smithson. But I also speak Portuguese, Dutch, and Slavic languages. And I'm currently learning Turkish, Hindi, Danish, Korean, and Finnish!"
"Girl, are ya planning to learn all the goddamn languages around the world?" asked Aldo, flabbergasted.
"Maybe... Seriously, I've always been interested in languages since I was a little girl and I never stopped my passion! Luckily for me, I was gifted with a good memory..."
"We noticed it." shrugged Hugo.
"Man, we're lucky to have her with us!" stated Hirschberg.
"Well spotted, private!"
They enjoyed the afternoon, when (Y/N) had to go to the village for some groceries.
Once she left, Wicki turned his angered glare towards his comrades.
"May I know WHAT THE FUCK were you all doing earlier? Wooing her as if you did not know what I felt?"
"Don't be mad, Wicki: we just wanted to make a joke!" said Utivitch who tried to calm his friend.
"I did not find it very funny!" growled the Austrian.
"Don't be so ill-humored! We'll never steal her from you. Of course, we all love her, but she is like a sister or a best friend to many of us!" retorted Kagan.
"Damn right, Kagan. But Wil, ya better tell (Y/N) what ya feel for her! Stop tripping and man up!" ordered Aldo.
"And how I'm supposed to do that?"
"Use your brains, Wicki, and take a guess: why don't you use something she likes to declare your love?" muttered Hugo as he smoked his cigarette.
"Something she likes..." mumbled Wilhelm as he lost himself in his thoughts.
Suddenly, an idea popped up in his mind, and he slightly grinned: maybe he can try something interesting.
He got up and searched in his bag a book his mother gave him before his departure. Wilhelm felt that the answer to his issue was between the pages of this poetry collection...
Tumblr media
Later in the evening...
The cool summer night was calm and appeasing for the Basterds as they were finishing the meals brought by their French accomplices.
At the same time, (Y/N) went for a small walk through the forest. She enjoyed the peaceful surrounding of the woods and sat on a tree stump to gaze at the shining stars who enlightened the dark blue sky.
The young woman slightly shivered as she felt the gentle breeze caress her bare arms.
"Can I join you?" asked a familiar masculine voice.
Startled, she turned and was relieved to see Wilhelm.
"Oh, it's you! You scare me!"
"I'm sorry!"
"It's fine... You can sit with me!"
Thanking her, the soldier sat close to the young woman.
He felt a knot in his stomach as he was nervous: God, this girl would be the death of him!
He straightened up himself and declared:
"It's a nice night!"
"Indeed: I've always appreciated summer nights. I don't why, but it always soothes me... And it reminds me of this beautiful painting entitled Starry Night."
"Made by Van Gogh in 1888, if I'm right?"
"Exactly. It was a representation of a starry sky in Provence... where we are!"
"Interesting, I did not know this part of the story..." smiled Wicki.
He leaned closer and said:
"You know, this landscape reminds me of a poem..."
"Really?"
"Would you like to listen?"
"I would enjoy it!" (Y/N) smiled.
Wilhelm cleared his throat and declaimed:
Es liegt der heiße Sommer (There lies the heat of summer)
Auf deinen Wängelein; (On your cheek’s lovely art:)
Es liegt der Winter, der kalte, (There lies the cold of winter)
In deinem Herzchen klein. (Within your little heart.)
Das wird sich bei dir ändern, (That will change, beloved,)
Du Vielgeliebte mein! (The end not as the start!)
Der Winter wird auf den Wangen, (Winter on your cheek then,)
Der Sommer im Herzen sein. (Summer in your heart.)
When he finished reciting the poem, he saw a beautiful smile across (Y/N)'s face.
"Wilhelm, it was amazing!"
"Danke. Maybe you know the author..."
"I think it's Heinrich Heine!"
"Exactly! It’s the poem titled There lies the heat of summer."
"He wrote such beautiful masterpieces about love."
She shrugged with a sly smile.
"I'm a helpless romantic!"
"Don't apologize: it's one of your qualities!"
He added with a slight blush on his face.
"Besides, this poem has a special meaning for me..."
"Honestly? Why?"
"Yes. Well, when I was younger, I told my mother that I would say this poem to the girl I want to spend my life with..."
"Oh, that's so charming..."
(Y/N) interrupted herself when she realized what happened.
"Wait a minute... Did you mean that..."
Wicki nodded.
"You've guessed right: I love you, (Y/N). Since the first day in our team, I knew you were meant to me. But I was a coward for a long time and I did not know how to tell you the truth... until tonight!"
There was a silence until the young woman let out a relieved sigh:
"Thank God, what a relief!"
"What do you mean?"
She fidgeted with her fingers, slightly embarrassed.
"You know, Wilhelm... You were not the only one who was shy about their feelings!"
"You mean... that it's reciprocated?"
She agreed with a slight nod and a timid smile.
Assuaged by this revelation, Wicki leaned closer to her face, letting a few inches between their lips.
"Ich liebe dich, (Y/N)..."
"I love you too, Wilhelm..."
And they gently kissed, their lips sealed in a tender moment...
Meantime, the other Basterds were spying on them, delighted smiles on their faces.
"Finally! He said it!" smirked Aldo.
"Look how cute they are!" grinned Utivitch.
"Indeed, they are. But remember guys: if you want to stay alive, don't cha flirt with her!" stated Donny.
"We took note, Don'. Should we celebrate this new couple?" asked Hirschberg.
"We'll do it when they'll come back to the camp. For now, let's them enjoy this moment alone!" tenderly smiled Andy.
"Gentlemen, we shall come back before they notice our presence. Moreover, we have a celebration to prepare!" simpered Hicox.
"The British's damn right! Let's go, boys!" discreetly cheered Michael.
"I'm so excited! It's like another Valentine's Day!" laughed Simon.
As they went back, Hugo looked back at the lovers with a small grin on his face.
"Well played, Wicki. You managed to speak her language, after all..."
Well, he was right: Wilhelm and (Y/N) found the perfect language between each other: the language of love...
Thank you for the reading!
I hope you’ll like it and I’m looking for your requests!
Take care and see you soon! 😘🥰😍🤩😷

Criminal Investigator AU HC
I would first like to start off by saying thank you to everyone.
I honestly did not expect the response I got to my Damirae Hospital AU HC list.
When I first woke up and checked tumblr ~13 hours after posting I had a holy shit moment.
I felt powerful, should I? Probably not.
But! Since I am noticing a lack of AUs in the fandom, whether on Tumblr, AO3 or FanFiction.net, whatever AU comes to my mind I shall jot down some hcs for!
Thank you all once again!
(Also trying format changes for easy reading)
(Also Also, I am thinking the story is less fluid but more episodic)
Let’s get started:
- So I’m thinking this is some FBI, SVU, and FBI BAU mixture or whatever. Basically all the great shows we know in love shoved together. From Bones to Criminal Minds and everything in between.
- Special Agent (Dr.) Raven Roth is a lead interrogator and is the resident psych consult.
She’s been educated in interrogation, behavioral science, psychology, forensic pathology, and criminology.
She has combat training (hand to hand), she carries (for her job) a gun and at all times has a knife/dagger on her person (people have stopped trying to figure out where she keeps them).
Her father was/is crime boss T. Trigon who is currently imprisoned.
Was born in the states but fled with her mother to Romania when she was a newborn.
When Trigon found them he killed Arella and took Raven, she was abut 9 - 10 years old.
She took her mother’s last name when she turned 18.
Knows two languages besides English; French, Romanian, Romani (various dialects but knows multiple), Greek and Latin
On more than one occasion some goon of her father’s tries to recruit her, every time she kicks their ass. (Damian was there for the most recent (he was still green though))
Lives by herself in a decent sized apartment, has a gun safe (gun safety is important!), a cat (Nevermore), and is a regular at a 24/7 bookstore &/ cafe
Can usually be found wearing some kind of jacket, sweater, cardigan
She once helped save some kids (Melvin, Tommy & Teether) and is now their surrogate aunt, she has photos of them at her desk @ work. (Damian assumes/ed that they were her kids)
She also, when she can, hangs out and babysits them on occasion.
Raven is part of a team consisting of Dick Grayson (unit leader), Kori Anders, Garfield Logan, Jaime Reyes, and very recently Damian Wayne
- Special Agent Damian Wayne is a lead investigator (he is still a bit fresh to the unit), translator, sniper and combat coordinator
He’s been educated in martial arts, explosives, hand to hand combat, close range combat, and combat (basically he knows how to kill you 9 ways to Sunday), also, behavioral science, computer science, criminology, linguistics and language.
He can easily translate (into English): Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Russian, Hindi, Bengali, French, Polish, German, Spanish, Portuguese, he can also learn any language you put in front of him and know the basics within a day
(Having lived in many places around the world he needed to be able to speak and understand in order to survive) (wow dramatic much?)
His father is currently the director (or deputy director, whatever floats ya boat) of the FBI.
His mother was essentially a secret agent who worked for various agencies around the globe. (deceased)
His grandfather was the leader of a, um, well to be honest, terrorist agency. (deceased)
Was sent to live with his father when he was 15 (when his mother died) and has been in the states ever since
Lives alone, he has an upscale apartment that he truthfully spends little time in, has multiple locations in the home where various weapons are stored, his place has a very cold atmosphere
Is either in proper work attire or in work out clothing, there is no in between
Tries and fails not to take work home with him
He sees a therapist (who says he should probably try investing in relationships with the people at his job)
His only “friend” (he hates calling him that, more like close acquaintance) is Jonathan Kent who was in his class at the FBI Academy, Jon works in a white collar crime department in Metropolis
The only person he actually kind of sort of doesn’t dislike is in fact Raven Roth, she’s a no bull shit person, he likes that
He may know Grayson because of how he’s Bruce’s kind of son but it does not mean he likes him
He finds Logan annoying as all hell, even if he is somewhat useful
He picked a fight with Reyes first day and regretted it (he will never admit that), he respects him
Anders is overly friendly in his opinion, kind of acts like a secretary with all that positivity and grates his nerves, he tolerates her
(Unlike last time I am not going in detail about the rest of the team, this will be brief)
- Supervisory Special Agent Dick Grayson (Unit Chief) is basically Dick Grayson with a big fancy title but all the same skills
He is also obsessed with Slade Wilson and Red X (who is Jason in this)
- Supervisory Special Agent Kori Anders is a lead investigator and is also a go to for undercover work
- Special Agent Garfield Logan is a lead interrogator, is head of the unit’s K-9 unit and kind of has a thing for Roth (which she does not reciprocate)
- Special Agent Jaime Reyes is a tactical analyst, tech analyst and is head of the unit’s SWAT team, he does not do well with talking with people, or change
The Scarab is a computing program that Jaime created himself
STORY START:
- When Damian first joins the team there is another member, Special Agent Terra Markov, she is revealed as a sleeper agent but she aligns herself with the team and sadly is shot and killed in a fire fight
- A couple weeks after Agent Markov’s death everyone is talking about what they are doing for an upcoming holiday, Damian says probably nothing, Raven invites him to spend it with her and her “niece” and “nephews,” he declines
- About a day after the holiday Damian is home looking through case files when someone knocks on his door
-- It is Raven. He asks how she knew where he lived, she says she asked Dick, she also says that she knows how it feels to be alone and that he may be insufferable but it doesn’t mean he can’t have a friend
-- His response is saying he isn’t the kind to make friends with co workers
-- “I’m not asking to be your friend Damian, I am asking you to be his,” She reveals a small black great dane puppy “I know that other people aren’t really your thing, but having someone in your corner and waiting for you is always nice, even if it isn’t human.”
-- Damian invites her in, names the dog Titus and thanks her
-- “Just make sure no one tries to kidnap and kill you, we don’t need you to go full blown John Wick.” Damian has no idea who that is. Raven tells him it is an action movie series that he should watch. She leaves. He does watch them that night with Titus on his lap. (after having gone to the local pet supply store to get everything he needs) The action is inaccurate but he enjoyed the movies none the less, and decides that he probably would go into John Wick mode if someone hurt Titus.
- SA Roth and SA Wayne are sent to a high security federal prison to interrogate a prisoner, who refuses to speak
-- When they get into the interview room the prisoner does start to speak, but not in English and not in a language Damian is fluent in
-- Raven on the other hand immediately responds to the prisoner (shocking the prisoner and Damian) “He is speaking Romani though not the dialect of those overseas, he learned it here.”
-- Damian is fascinated by it and they are essentially switching roles the entire time
-- They leave having successfully interviewing the prisoner, and Raven leaves behind a written list of common words in Romani so that they can possibly communicate with the prisoner better
-- As soon as they are on the plane back Damian asks her a myriad of questions from “How many languages do you know?” to “When did you learn that?” and even “Are you a spy? Sleeper agent? Part of a terrorist cell?”
-- “Not as many as you, when I was a child, if I was part of any of that you wouldn’t be asking.” The rest of the trip is spent with her teaching him Romani and even some Romanian
- Dick & Kori eventually get together and after a while they break up. Kori takes some vacation time. At the same Dick has been temporarily reassigned to another unit.
-- Chaos ensues
-- Garfield thinks he should be the interim unit chief, Jaime thinks the same, as does, you guessed it, Damian (Raven doesn’t want to she is comfortable with her role on the team)
-- In the end they are assigned an interim unit chief, SSA Jason Todd, who usually works overseas on covert op missions (not gonna lie this could easily flow into a Jayrae thing)
-- Everyone kind of falls into line, except Damian, Damian doesn’t like him for two reasons
1) He doesn’t act serious about the job 24/7
2) He has been flirting and hitting on Raven the moment he stepped into their sector
-- Damian hates the names he gives her; “Little Bird,” “Sunshine,” “Princess,” “Rae,” (no one calls her Rae, not even Garfield, at least not after the incident) etc.
-- (Little does Damian know, Jason and Raven have worked together before and are actually friends)
-- This all comes to a head when Damian and Jason are the only ones still in the office after a tiring case.
“You shouldn’t do that you know.”
“Do what? All I am doing right now is contemplating where Grayson                    keeps the liquor.”
“Call Raven all those names, she doesn’t like it.”
“Really? Because if you haven’t noticed she hasn’t exactly asked me to                stop.”
“She gets uncomfortable, maybe not to the extent of asking you to stop,              but she tenses up and her body language becomes slightly more                        agitated.”
“You seem to pay a lot of attention in how she reacts to thinks baby brat.             Seems to me that you like her.”
“Of course I like her, she is a good friend and reliable teammate.”
           “No, you like like her.”
           “That presumption is juvenile.”
           “But you don’t deny it.”
           “Tch.”
-- If anything after that conversation Jason seems to doubled his advances. Which confuses both Damian and Raven. Damian because it is inappropriate and HR will be hearing about this. Raven because she was under the assumption that she and Jason were just friends. (Jason actually does have genuine intentions but is like 60% just egging Damian on)
-- Eventually (far too long for Damian’s tastes), both Dick and Kori return. At first it is sooooooo awkward. Like mom and dad divorced have shared custody but don’t hate each other but also cannot look each other in the eye. ((Was that a mouthful? Good)) No one can really look at each other the same? Though they do have a meeting to sort it out, get everything out in the open.
- Raven’s annual kidnapping/attempt to convert her/torture comes almost exactly one year after Damian joined the team (this is his 2nd time dealing with this)
-- This time Damian is prepared. By prepared I mean Raven doesn’t even leave her apartment before she is taken to safety.
    “Damian what is going on?”
“Christmas came early this year that’s what.”
“Christmas? What in gods name are you talking about.”
“God has no dealings in this matter.”
“You do realize you are sounding like a bad action movie? It is not even 6 am and I am in your car going somewhere, I have had little to no sleep and I am barely dressed. What is going on?” Damian hadn’t payed attention to what clothing Raven was wearing. His mind was on one goal. Find Raven, keep Raven safe. His eyes glanced off the road enough to realize she was indeed not properly dressed. Her body was merely adorned with an oversized tee-shirt, tiny barely there shorts and a pair of fluffy socks.
“I apologize, it appears in my haste I did not leave you time to properly clothe yourself. As to why you are here, it seems your father and his people have shortened their waiting time this year from one year to a little more than ten months.” Ravens hands fisted her shirt. “This time I was prepared,” last time he was still new to everything, last time he made mistakes, this time there will be no mistakes. “Since our last encounter with your demon, so to speak, I have been setting in place precautions and safety measures to ensure Nevermore and yours’ safety. I have also been tracking the movements of his big players. If any came close I would mark it down. Multiple are entering the city at this moment. Seeing as you we taken last time I have made plans to ensure that will not happen again.” The car made a snap turn down an unfamiliar street pulling Raven from her clouded gaze.
“So I am going to be okay this time?” Her voice was faint and restraining against hope.
“You’re going to be okay.” His hand lightly held hers. Only to stop the shaking, they told themselves, only to make everything better. “Nevermore is with Titus at my place being watched by a friend of mine. I have already walked Grayson through everything we will not be expected at work this week, but we can work remotely.”
     “We?”
“I’m not going to leave you. Ever.”
-- ((Sorry for the blocks of text))
-- As Raven finds out they are at one of Damian’s safe houses. The one least likely to be tied to her. It is fully stocked with food, has security cameras and if needed weapons. The only problem is that the only clothes there are Damians.
    “Thought of everything huh?”
“I was following their pattern, I expected to have more time to acquire clothing for you.” (he was looking away and blushing, you cannot tell me he wasn’t)
-- Raven just resigns herself to wearing Damian’s clothes, yes his brain does stop working for a hot second when he sees her in only his clothes.
-- All attempts to try and retrieve codename: Gem of Scath are foiled (like some good math)
-- So many bonding moments happen. Cuddling (pure accident *rolls eyes*), eating together, inside jokes, etc. At one point Damian answers her phone (he disabled and disconnected the tracer) to one of the mob guys after them.
    “Hello?”
“You can hide the gem but we will find her.”
“I’m sorry, is there a jewel you are looking for? I don’t think I have and any jewels that I am coveting.”
“We know you are with her! It is but a matter of time until we collect her.”
“I hope you do eventually find whatever you are looking for sir, but I haven’t the slightest idea the gem you speak of. If you could give me a physical description? Is it a ruby, diamond, onyx? Is it round or more of a pear shape?”
    “...”
“Well, I will look for it here, but I do not believe I possess what you speak of. Will you give me your number so I can call you back?” (The line cuts dead, and Raven can be seen laughing in the background, the phone was on speaker)
-- Once the team tracks down, arrests and interrogates all of the parties working for Trigon; Raven and Nevermore can go home. Though both are reluctant in their own way. Nevermore has grown attached to Titus, and Raven well Raven has feelings. Sadly, as Raven knows, feelings are dangerous to have in their line of work.
-- Look at Dick and Kori they were together and then they fell apart and the team almost imploded.
-- What about Trigon if he finds out about Damian and how she feels towards him? What kind of danger will he be in then?
-- Like all of her feelings Raven puts them in a box and locks the box away. Not just figuratively, in her safe there is a box with: post its, torn papers, journals, etc. That box has a lock on it. Whenever she has a new feeling that she cannot ignore, like her feelings towards Special Agent Wayne, she takes out the box and writes her feelings down. They can range from a single sentence to pages worth. (Her feelings towards Damian fill a small notebook she has on hand). Once she has written all of her feelings out she places them in the box, locks said box and then places the locked box in her safe, which she then locks.
-- Is this a healthy way to cope with her feelings? Maybe not. But, it is way better than how Damian deals with his. Violence. Also art but violence comes first.
- At this point both Damian and Raven have caught the feelings (highly contagious I hear), which makes this a little awkward and a little not awkward. For one everyone but Raven knows how Damian feels towards her. He does things for her and with her that no one else gets the privilege to.
-- To list a few:
--- He brings her tea whenever he gets himself coffee or tea
--- He talks to her about what he does outside of work, even about his kind of friend definitely not enemy, Jon.
--- They socialize outside of work. Watching bad movies (some of them are not that bad), going to the park with Titus (they once got Nevermore in a leash and walked her), meeting each other before and after work to get breakfast or dinner.
--- He doesn’t glare at her
--- He allows physical contact between the two
--- He worries about her (hello he created an entire plan so that she wouldn’t get kidnapped, with contingencies and everything, garfield would be lucky to get a plan)
--- His eyes light up when she talks, or enters a room, or you know exists in his vicinity
--- He actually smiles around her (Dick caught him smiling once at Raven and he though Damian was having a stroke)
-- Even though everyone knows Damian likes Raven, very few know that Raven likes Damian back. (this only includes; Kori, Dick, Jason, Titus, Nevermore, and Melvin) She does do certain things that give herself away just like Damian.
--The list:
--- When Damian gets frustrated or angry she puts a hand on his arm, or holds his hand
--- She laughs at things he does (light chuckles, or little giggles)
--- She will talk to him about his interests and actively tries to have conversations with him about things unrelated to work.
--- She blushes when he does something unexpected (like a compliment)((Mostly she tries to hide it until he isn’t looking at her))(((Kori has caught the blush before)))
-- Luckily for them it does not take some cliche ‘One suddenly becomes in danger and the other one saves them only to be close to death and then they admit their love for one another and promise to go on a date when the other is healed’ situation.
-- Damian actually asks Raven out after being tipped of by Jason and Dick that she may like him back. Damian finds out when they have days off at the same time and asks her while leaving work.
“Raven, you have this weekend off correct?”
“Yeah I do. I wasn’t planning on doing anything though. Did you have something in mind?”
“Um, yeah, heh, I was wondering if you would do me the pleasure of going to dinner with me tomorrow.” *Awkwardly rubs back of neck*
“Like a date or two friends going to dinner?” *Thinks she sounds harsh* “I am honestly fine with either since we are friends.” *nervous smile*
“Like a date if that is okay with you of course.”
“Yeah, yeah totally that is totally okay with me.” *Starts sounding like a teenage girl who only knows about 10 words, because she’s nervous*
“Good, I’ll be by your place around 1830, if that is okay?” *nerve central, the central nervous system could never*
“Yup that is totally fine with me.”
       “Great.”
“Good.” The elevator opens in the knick of time.
“See you tomorrow evening Agent Roth. Have a good night.”
“You too, Agent Wayne, you too.”
-- When Damian does pick her up he feels like his brain is going to explode. She looks absolutely breathtaking. This is just like all the other times they’ve gone to dinner, except this restaurant is slightly fancier and they are on a date.
-- Raven feels as though all her emotions are leaking out at once, she has no idea what she is doing.
-- In the end they have a good time and decide to do it again. Damian does bring up that all of the breakfasts and dinners they regularly do could now be considered dates. Raven does not oppose that switch at all.
- Fast forward a handful of years (like 3?), Damian and Raven are moved in together (Nevermore and Titus are happy about this, they even allow the humans to adopt another pet, a cat named Alfred). Damian is now Supervisory Special Agent Wayne and is in charge of their unit. Raven has retired from field work and now works at the FBI academy and at Virginia State University. In about 6 months Damian is going to propose and Raven will say yes. Their wedding will be small but happy and full of life.
Once again I would like to thank everyone and all the support the previous post got.
Like last time if anything is disjointed, out of place or seems wrong, please go ahead and tell me. I have been working on this since the last one, but have finally had the time to finish it.
I hope the new year will bring us all some good. Possibly more head canons to come.

WHERE did you learn so many languages?? do you have any tips?
well I’m brazilian so portuguese is my first language and french and spanish are also latin based languages so they came pretty easily for me. english was a lengthier process but long story short 99% of the media I liked to consume since I was a little kid (pjo for one) was originally in english so since I was constantly listening to it and reading it even when I didn’t understand I eventually learned by osmosis if you will lmao I don’t actually know like. proper english I just wing it I have never once sat through an entire english lesson yet I graduated with a perfect grade in english in hs because apparently I know things even when I don’t LMAO russian is weird because my brother used to play online games with a group of russian boys he met on a gta forum and they, being russian, spoke very little english while my brother, being brazilian, also spoke very little english and all I know is after six months they spoke a little portuguese and my brother spoke a little russian so, again, I kinda learned by osmosis. I thought it was very little but then last year I watched a russian show on netflix and realized I was fine without subs which is 👀 cool. similarly my parents have one close family friend who is a german immigrant so I grew up listening to them so I kinda understand but like. v precariously lol japanese is really the only language I decided I wanted to sit down and actually properly learn because I wanna move to Japan eventually so I was like I gotta be proper about this!!! but it’s been the hardest out of all of them?? I understand it well enough but my issue is with learning an entire new alphabet, my brain is like no ❤️ and I’m also currently studying to get into college so I haven’t had much time to dedicate to japanese exclusively bonk :(
as u can tell I have no method whatsoever other than immersing myself in the language and winging it. I did it with english and it worked so I was like K this is it I guess LOL I have adhd so it’s really hard for me to sit through entire lessons of any subject tbh but especially the boring parts like the building blocks of language always sound too simple to my ears (even when I don’t know them!!!) so instead of learning these via lessons I kinda get a feel of the language first and then go back to learn grammar n shit. I am very privileged though in the sense that my mother speaks all the languages I know except japanese so I’ve always had someone to mimic and practice with and also that language related things in general just simply make a lot of sense in my head. it’s always been a very intuitive process to me which is why it’s hard to describe. my one tip is to just immerse yourself in the language as much as possible: read your favorite books in the target language, read news in it, watch subtitled films/look up song translations and read the translation as they’re playing etc. Not only do I find that much less boring but also it seems to work quicker and it’s an excuse for you to just watch a tv show or listen to some music for a while and chill and still be doing something
I’m sorry I can’t be more helpful 😭 it’s a mess my brain is a jumble of all these languages it’s v weird to try to explain

A New Year. A New Decade.
As I type away, only a couple of hours to go to lead us into not only a new year but a new decade. So many memorable moments that happened this year…some good…some not so much.
2019, a year that began with anxiety and stress as I began my final semester and final year of college and ended it with uncertainty of what the next year will bring with a bit of hope that things will get better.
As I begin to reflect on my 2019, I note that even with all my downs I had a lot more ups and so much to be thankful for this year. As some of my family and friends had many new joys to celebrate there are others near and dear that also suffered a lot of hardships and loss this year. For them I hope that this New Year will bring hope, joy, peace and many more blessings.
I stressed over my academic performance as my college years were coming to a close. As I lost myself in my thesis and trying to complete it and finding that pulling my hair strand by strand may have been less painful of a process. The stress of personal issues happening at home, my deepening depression, and self-inflicted stress from school, led to me smoking a ciggy after being more than 2 years smoke free. Albeit only two lung cancer sticks, but still a moment of succumbing to my go-to distressing vice. I was, however, more determined than ever to survive my senior year being on top. With many late, tiring nights I worked towards ending on a high note. And boy did I. After having graduating high school 19 years ago, I, Ethni, at 37 years of age FINALLY graduated college…as a foreign student…with honors to boot! Can you believe it folks? I actually managed to graduate cum laude. Holy mother of fruitloops, how the frak did I even do that and not go bald? An academic acknowledgement I never dreamed possible four years ago when I started my first year of college. An honor that I can solely chuck up to hard work and determination no matter how much I lacked in confidence or ability. Alas, I finally completed a long held dream to obtain a college degree even if it took me a long time to get there. Of course the dream initially was graduating back home years ago in my dream school NYU-Tish, but hey, there are moments when dreams and goals change depending on what cards you’re dealt with and how you deal with them.
This year I was able to go back home for a visit after being away for five years. Oh how I missed my family and friends and OMG the FOOD. (the latter gifted me 20 extra pounds to take back to the Philippines) As I went back to visit the people nearest and dearest to my heart, unfortunately not having enough time to see all of them,  I couldn’t help but feel nostalgic. How much has changed in just those five years amazed me. I felt so odd when I visited my old workplace. I hardly remembered the halls I once roamed for three years. It felt so much farther back in time than it was that it almost felt like a dream rather than actual memories. I also found some odd connection to my hometown of Los Angeles that I don’t remember ever having in all the time that I lived there. Perhaps being away for as long I had gave me some new perspective of my birthplace that was something other than being at odds with it and not feeling like I belonged. Basically I can say I don’t hate L.A. as much as I did when I was so desperate to move away from it.
After graduating, I had so many things I still needed to complete before I could even begin to search for my new direction in life. I had to change my student visa status which was a trying and pricey task. I had to finalize the printing and binding of my thesis which I finally managed to do only a month ago…ahh ever the procrastinator that I, at times, can be.
As a part of my student visa downgrading tasks of having to deport myself briefly and return with tourist visa status, I was able to check off yet another goal of mine from my ever changing and growing bucket list. My ma and I made a three day vacation of it in Tokyo, Japan. This was a city I had wanted to visit for years but had to work at convincing my mom to let our trip itinerary be in Tokyo. With her memories of WW2 as a child, I couldn’t really blame her but thankfully she finally said yes. Tokyo is a remarkable city with a lot of history and traditions. We found the Japanese people to be some of the most respectful, disciplined, welcoming and helpful people we ever had the honor of meeting throughout our travels. There were a handful of standout moments like where one young lady even walked opposite of her direction to help show us where our hotel was. I definitely will make plans to return one day but for longer than the three days we were there and make sure that I go to Mount Fuji.
Out of what I had hoped to accomplish from what I wrote last new year, I only managed to check off a few but hey, we all know that even one being checked off is practically a miracle for many of us.
I did get to learn a new language, bombarding my phone with language apps. I have managed to nearly memorize the Hangul alphabet. Now I just need to start memorizing the actual vocabulary and I’ll be good. I can now at least read several of the ingredients on Korean cosmetics and skincare products.  I have also added some words in Chinese, Japanese, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Gaelic, and Russian. (I tried Arabic but I need a one on one assistance with that one rather than an app) In one or two more years I hope to at least be mediocre in my ability to speak and understand Korean while learning a few more words from other languages. Of course I sometimes get confused as hell mixing up foreign words and their translations in my head. Some Chinese leaks into Korean sentences and Portuguese gets muddled with Spanish, Italian and French. The proper pronunciations and accents also get flipped around. I already had this issue with my second language, Tagalog, finding itself mixed in with my first language of English (U.S.) With my memory issues also adding to this problem, I may find myself one day accidentally saying a multilingual sentence without realizing it. I already have a bad habit of going Taglish around people who only understand the English part.
I did cook and bake a lot more this year than I did last year to the point that my mother is complaining that I am spending too much money and time on ingredients for my baked concoctions. I even took the time to cook vegan dishes for much of my school lunches during my last semester. I did love to bake more often than cooking this year thus partly to blame for my added weight gain…
As one recent unsolicited comment from a male FB acquaintance said…”u really fat” Yes, darlin’, thank you so much for that ‘oh so keen’ observation (FYI I have a mirror and a plucking scale of my own. I don’t need input I didn’t ask for nor need. Ever heard the phrase “if you ain’t got nothing nice to say...shut tf up”?) . As he so gracefully put it, yes I’ll admit I added a bit more junk in my trunk this year rather than shedding it. And? Yeah so I admit, I piled on the dessert and snacks and revisited my obsession with video games that had me mimic the physical actions of a sloth or an overly blubbered seal to the point that I nearly gave myself tennis elbow and the posture of Igor. It also didn’t help that my fybro kept flaring up on and off this year which made me feel like a Golden Girl could take me down in one fell swoop and outrun me. Not to mention my constant and annoying friend that is called clinical depression and chronic anxiety that kept nipping at my heels that I’m lucky that I can even act like a functioning human most of the time. The fact that I can tell my inner negative voice to shut the duck up most of the time and ignore it, as well as wishing to not wake up at all only twice this year is a frakking miracle in itself. (Seriously though...what is up with some people that feel the need to foist their shallow insights on those that did not solicit it. And the added ludicrousness that sometimes this is supposed to lead into a flirt-on...I mean what kind of hells bells reverse psychology load of horse manure is that?)
Unfortunately I did not read any books this year but I did read more news articles and try to keep myself up to date on current events. (and try tried to stay sane while reading them)
My writing progress stalled and I only have a long list of story ideas to show from it. There is one story I recently started outlining that I find hopeful. I think it has the legs to be a decent script if I can manage to focus on its development. That will be a big focus this coming year…to gain some momentum in my writing.
(currently being distracted by the onslaught of illegal fireworks popping in my neighborhood, hoping my house and neighborhood manages to survive these irresponsible idiots.)
The promise to keep up with my daily checklist died a hollow death early on in the year with my senior year and thesis weighing me down from being able to stay consistent. Well there’s always next year.
Sadly I didn’t get any higher in Gurushots but I did get one of my shot viewed along with other peoples work at a showing. Yay for the small things!
I did sell several of my clothes and accessories but still way more to go before I can say I am done. Like a HEEP load. Every time I see some clothes I want to buy I have to keep repeating “no more clothes” over and over again. I just try to picture Hasan Minhaj’s piece on fast fashion to control those horrible habits of mine.
Even though I didn’t successfully check off a lot of what I wanted to complete for this year, I still look back to this year as a decent one even with my ever present depression and anxiety looming over me. Dude, I graduated college, I learned a new language, and I knocked off Tokyo from my bucket list. I think that was enough to make my year above meh and almost a big YAY!
As I near the close of this annual report of mine, I list these goals and hopes not set in stone but in rainbows (oh yes I just went there into ridiculousness!!!)
May I find a job I actually like rather than what I just deem as a necessary obligation to obtain a paycheck.
I will learn enough Korean to be able to legitimately claim that I am multilingual.
Finish reading the books that I have collected on my shelf before I leave the Philippines.
Cook and bake with a bit more flair and add more complicated dishes to my repertoire.
Sell and clear out more of my shit to prepare me for our move back stateside if all goes according to plan.
If I manage to shed enough off my caboose to fit in the jeans I already own that will be a small victory in itself and the only goal that deals with my rollipollies for the year. If any extra manages to come off along the way that’ll be just an added bonus.
Hitting reset on my daily checklist and will do my best to let it last longer than last year (I can say that now as it is currently past midnight and officially 2020 in my neck of the woods)
If I do move back stateside this year I will start saving towards my future goal of getting me a tiny home. (Seriously the perfect solution to my wanting a permanent home but not a permanent address and thus my added reason to shed the burden of most of my crap)
Complete my story outline and treatment and finalize the first draft of a 45 minute script.
Delve a bit more into my art and photography as well.
Get more sleep…(crappy sleeping habits I can lay blame to my current gaming and ongoing kdrama addiction and mindless internet browsing habits)
Begin volunteering once again.
With my final moving destination still unknown dependent on the job prospects I get, pretty sure I won’t be able to mark off any other travel destinations or adventures for the coming year.
Just be healthier not only in body but in mind and soul overall. I need to work on alleviating my health issues that aggravate my fybro as well as my anxiety. If my brain could shut the frak up and calm the frak down, and keep my ma’s schizophrenic outbursts and episodes to no more than an hour a day at least once in a while would be oh so lovely.
As long as I keep going and progress even in baby steps I will eventually get there.
For those that know me and my political ideology, they know what I especially hope for this year. Please oh please if there are any actual deities that exist or even if there isn’t…please let that outcome be a good one.
Now I end my annual New Year musings with a Happy New Years greeting to everyone. May we all find good and peace in this new year and may we have a better decade than the last one.
Goodbye 2019, I can’t say I’ll really miss thee. And goodbye to another decade.
Hello 2020, be better dammit and I promise that I will strive towards making it a positive and productive one for me, my family, my friends and with that, some decent contribution to this world we all live in.

MANNERISMS
how does your muse walk?: normally, it’s sorta soft and airy, like the summer breeze. she’s really shy, tho, so if she’s walking alone, she’ll try to make herself as small as possible in hopes of bringing the least amount of attention to herself. how does your muse talk?: very clear and concise with her words and pronunciation. she’s also very animated, so she talks with her hands and makes a lot of facial expressions. what accent/dialect does your muse talk with?: thanks to her training, she primarily speaks with a seoul dialect. how would you describe the tone of their voice? are they loud or quiet?: she’s definitely on the quiet side, but her vocal tone is sorta low. raspy at times, too, which is why she prefers to sing the r&b / soul genre. she feels it fits her vocal style much better. what does their laugh sound like?: she doesn’t make a lot of noise when she laughs ( or does much of anything tbh ), it’s just slight wheezing depending how hard she’s laughing. if she gets to laughing too hard, tho, it’ll sound like she’s crying.   how does your muse typically smell?: roses !!! it’s a light scent if it’s during the day time and she normally mixes it with a hint of vanilla if she’s going out at night. what kind of air do they carry?: sorta timid, maybe a little standoffish if she doesn’t smile. when she smiles, tho, it’s very warm and sweet. do they have a(ny) catchphrase(s)?: not really ?? i mean, she says i love you a lot, but that’s about it. what are their nervous ticks?: shakes her legs, bites her lip / cheek, crackles her knuckles, pinches herself.
PSYCHOLOGY
what makes your muse happiest?: roses. her kitten. her friends. bubble baths. night time. music, most importantly her guitars. art museums. banana milk. ice cream. deep conversations. filming / photography. cooking. gloomy days. clean bed sheets. body pillows. cuddles. warm tea. smiles. surprises. learning. losing herself in a good book. scented candles. holding hands. what upsets them the most?: herself. impatient / rude people. forgetting things. nightmares. does your muse have any quirks?: she has a tendency to talk to herself ? mainly bc it helps get a handle on her thoughts and everything. what are their hobbies? how frequent do/can they do them?: making music, primarily and she does it daily. reading, which she does every night before she goes to bed; at least a chapters worth. photography, and that happens usually only when inspiration strikes. cinematography, primarily only becomes a thing when she’s making a b-roll to be used to make a lyric video or something for one of her songs. cooking, whenever she feels like doing it. do they have any guilty pleasures?: she doesn’t do anything that she feels guilty about, so no ?? is your muse an extrovert or an introvert? neither?: she’s definitely much more introverted, unless she’s comfortable with you. do they have high or low self-esteem? what about confidence?: she has low everything tbh are they easily stressed and how do they normally respond to it?: normally, she just tackles the situation head on and focuses on getting it done. then, once it’s not an issue anymore, she’ll freak out. what is your muses worst fear?: losing the people she loves. what is your muses biggest dream?: to become a good mom, daughter, friend, and someone her people can be proud. is your muse a morning person or a night dragon?: she’s both; just depends which one she needs to be. how intelligent is your muse? do they acknowledge it?: she’s a lot smarter in a sense of street smarts than school smarts ( but she’s always been a straight A student ), but she definitely doesn’t acknowledge it. there’s so much for her to still learn and room for growth; she’s never going to consider herself intelligent. to her, she’s dumb, but she’s not stupid. describe their sense of humor: it’s really easy to make her laugh considering she laughs at everything. her favorite thing, tho, is when someone mispronounces something.
RELATIONSHIP TENDENCIES

FAVORITES
activity: playing guitar / singing. animal: cats !! and owls beverage: warm tea or banana milk. book: when breath becomes air. color: purple !! designer: doesn’t have one; prefers not to wear them. food: anything with chicken. sweet stuff. flower: roses !! lilies !! gem: ooooh, she has a collection of these and she likes them for different reasons, but if she had to choose a favorite, she’d probably go with moonstone or opalite. holiday: all of them, especially halloween. she just likes having an excuse to either dress up or shower the people she loves with affection. mode of transportation: @ofdaeseong‘s bike or walking. movie: the craft. and if you didn’t see that coming, i,,, don’t know what to tell you. musical artist: she has Multiple, so i’ll list a few that she listens to regularly: emotional oranges, jay park, the rose, tinashe, kiana lede, kehlani, just to name a few. quote / saying: “if it harms none, do as you will”. it’s the basis of her beliefs and pretty much dictates how she goes about everything in life. scenery: she Loves the woods in the dead of winter. or spring sunsets. scent: roses !! and pretty much everything floral. she also likes the smell of pine and the earth after it rains. weather: gloomy and cold. vacation destination: she’s been to a lot of beautiful places, but she’s never been able to experience the caribbean; which is where she’d like to go before making a final decision about her favorite vacation spot. as of right now, tho, canada is in the lead.
ATTITUDES
greatest dream: she just wants to become the best person she can be. both for herself and the people who are important to her. greatest fear: losing the people she loves. most at east when: when she’s with her best friends, @ofazcmi and @ofdaeseong and / or when she’s playing her guitar. least as ease when: she’s put on the spot. worst possible thing that could happen: she doesn’t make her mom proud or loses her friends. biggest achievement: helping make her mom’s dream come true; even if she didn’t last as long as she would’ve liked. biggest regret: she doesn’t have any. everything happens for a reason and nothing in the universe is coincidental. most embarrassing moment: pretty much every day of her life tbh. biggest secret: she’s a survivor of abuse which is why she has nothing to do with her dad anymore. top priorities: her friends. her music. life.
EXTRA TIDBITS
001. she gives everyone a nickname, and i mean Everyone ------ usually pokemon related ------ she may not call you by said nickname, but it helps keep her from forgetting.
002. the most sentimental person you’ll ever meet; she keeps everything. you two went to see a movie 10 years ago ?? she’s still got the ticket stub. you gave her a birthday card 19 years ago ?? she’s still got it. and every gift from her usually includes something she’s made herself.
003. her camera roll is Filled with funny animal pictures. she looks at them anytime she needs a laugh.
004. her personality does a complete 180 after she’s had a few drinks. the veil is dropped, along with all of her insecurities, & she finally shows the woman she really is.
005. everything she does is very light. her touch, her steps, the way she writes, etc. she’s just very soft; so much so that sometimes it’s hard to tell if she’s actually touched you or if you just imagined it. sorta like if you have your phone in your pocket & you think you feel it vibrate, but you can’t actually tell so you have to check ? yea, like that. bc of this, it’s also rly easy for her to sneak up on you.
006. watches a lot of asmr videos ://////
007. there’s only four people in this entire world that she would actually throw fists for and that’s @ofazcmi, @ofdaeseong, @rhyominnie & her daughter.
008. she has an ear for accents, so if she listens to it a few times, she can ( usually ) mimic it perfectly. and sometimes she thinks it’s fun to use one of those accents when she takes a trip & meets someone new. it sorta gives her an opportunity to get out of her own skin for a bit, which she, strangely, finds therapeutic.
009. it took her a long time to actually enjoy her birthday / halloween. for the longest time, she always felt guilty that she was the one here instead of her mom, and that she had the ability to have fun, but over time, she slowly began to realize ( with the help of her friends ) that she was allowed to enjoy herself; that it’s what her mom would’ve wanted. now, it’s her favorite and she also uses it as a way to pay respects.

11 Questions Tag
Ages ago I was tagged by @helenrasing and I finally finished it :D
Always repost the rules. Answer 11 random questions posted for you. Create 11 new questions and tag 11 people. Let the person who tagged you know that you’ve answered.
1. Your favourite word ever (language not important)?
some of my current and all time faves would be: parapluie,  você, mandarynka, Einhörnchen (even though it’s not a real word but...egal :D), discombobulated
2. Why is this your favourite word?
eh, no idea, because they sound fun or I have some weird associations with them
3. Do you know sign language?
no
4. Do you think everybody should know sign language?
er, I think it would be definitely nice if society payed more attention to that and maybe sign language classes at schools would be a good idea but then again...does everyone have to speak English for example? I don’t want to sound ignorant or arrogant in any way but I don’t think learning any language should be mandatory.
5. If you had to delete a language from your head, which one would it be?
Spanish. I know it the least, most of it just disappeared from my brain and I also enjoyed it the least out of all the languages I’ve studied or tried to study
6. Is your family multicultural?
ah, define family. yes and no
7. How did/do your interests influence your learning of a language?
A lot. English: I just really wanted to learn it and I wanted to have access to all the media available primarily in English (music, books, tv shows, youtube etc). With Spanish...I’d say my lack of or very tiny interest in that language made me not very dedicated to studying it further and focusing more on German instead. As for German basically my plans for the future made me study it more. And all the other languages I tried to study... I picked them up only because I was interested in them (or with Russian I was scared I would have it at school but luckily I didn’t because we didn’t have the right chemistry)
8. Do you have a languages-to-learn-list?
Em, no, I don’t. I know that I want to master German and if by this time I’m not in retirement age (on the other hand I would have a lot of free time then :D) and have time for it I would like to try some other languages and possibly sticking by one of them IF I enjoy it but I’m definitely not set on having to become fluent or even advanced in a 4th language after I’m satisfied with my German.
9. Discuss this list (8)!
Well...I didn’t give you any list :D but I think if I had to choose another language rn it would be Italian. I’m also interested in Portuguese, Dutch and French but idk, they are all a bit scary.
10. Can you sing a song in a language that is not your mother-tongue?
yes I can
ROSA ROSA ROSA
Tumblr media
11. You are founding your own country. What is the official language?
Cat. meow.
I think I would rather to focus on geopolitical issues tbh. But probably English, just to be boring :D
Here are my questions for you:
Teach me a word or a phrase in your native language
Sea vs lake, discuss
What series that you watch(ed) would you recommend me?
What is your least favourite colour?
Animated films, thoughts?
Do you send postcards to your friends and family when you go on vacation? Why, why not?
What is one thing on your to-do list?
And what is one book on your to-be-read list?
What is the most fabulous thing you have ever cooked or baked?
Is your tumblr private or do all your friends and family know about it?
Tell me about the prettiest place you’ve ever been to in your home country.

So you'd like to see my Fluent in 3 Months language missions? You've come to the right place! I set up Fluent in 3 Months to share language hacking tips and to tell the real, gritty stories of how language hacking works for me. For over a decade I travelled around the world, and whenever I was in a new country for more than a few days, I set myself the mission of learning and speaking as much of the language as I could in that time. In 2009, I began sharing these stories on my blog. These are "case studies" in language hacking, if you like. Later, I started sharing missions where I’d learn the language of one country while living in another country - such as learning Arabic while living in Brazil, or learning Japanese while living in Spain. More recently, I've settled down in New York, and my new mission has been creating language courses. Meanwhile, Fluent in 3 Months has grown into a team, and other team members (including my partner, Lauren) have taken on the mantle of language missions. Below are all my language missions - and all the Fluent in 3 Months language missions - with all the glory and all the "failure". Remember that a cornerstone of language hacking is the willingness to make mistakes - and I'm completely open about where things went well, and where they went wrong. I’ll keep adding to this list as new missions are published on Fluent in 3 Months. I’m sure you’ll find something in these missions to inspire your own language learning. Here they are - enjoy! And please leave a comment to let me know about your language missions. Benny's Czech Mission (2009) Is it possible to become fluent in a language in 3 months? The Great Language Status Update
It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these, hasn’t it?
I’m very concerned with certificates at the moment. I know they don’t really mean much to us personally and that they don’t say much about our actual language skills, but I do think that having them is better than not having them and it’s very useful for my career to have some proof of my language skills. especially if I eventually choose to leave my country.
Portuguese
Level: Native language.
I regret ever saying I needed to write more. Now all I do is write all day, every day. I’ve also been reading more in my language, and that’s definitely a good thing.
Goals: Just writing better and speaking with a slightly more polished vocabulary, since the job demands it.
English
Level:C1-C2
I’m actively working towards getting a C2 certificate now. I need to work on my test-taking and some specific grammar issues. I think I can do it. I don’t think I’ll be able to do it perfectly, but I’m pretty confident I can pass. I’m taking the exam in May and if I pass that’s pretty much the end of my english studies. I’ll keep using the language obviously, but I just won’t be making an effort to study it, as it were. I’m not sure I’ve improved at all over the past year tbh, I’m pretty sure I’m at exactly the same level I was before. I do want to work on my legal english, though, especially since it’s going start playing a bigger role in my life and I just don’t know any legal terminology in english.
Goals:Passing the Cambrige English Proficiency Exam; Legal english
German
Level: C1
I’m a little disappointed in my german right now. I know I improved quite a bit last year - actually being in Germany obviously made a huge difference. However, I still haven’t been able to fix my chronic grammar issues and my vocabulary is much weaker than I hoped it would be by this point. My own laziness is largely to blame for this. That and the fact that I just have a really hard time studying german. It’s hard to find materials  that get me to do the grammar practice I need without boring me, because the grammar problems come from so far back that I’d probably need to do a lot of B1 exercises to fix them. And I just can’t find the motivation to do it. I’m trying to read more, and more regularly in German too. I think that’ll probably help me more than anything else at this point. As with English, I’m also working on the legal aspects of the language, since it can be very useful at work.
Goals: Goethe Zertifikat C1; Legal German
French
Levl: B2(!!!)
I took a level test yesterday and they placed me at B2! They actually said I’d be ready to start preparing for the DELF B2 exam, which really surprised me. I knew the speaking part was ok, but I expected the wrtten part to be much, much worse, and as it turns out it actually wasn’t. I started worrying about French only recently, also for work-related reasons, and I really expected the results to be much worse than this. I have to work on pretty much everything here, but again, mostly grammar and writing, and legal terms. If there’s one common thread to the way I learn languages, it’s that I’m always much, much better at speaking than writing, and french is no exception to that rule.
Goals: DELF B2, I suppose! And legal french
Russian
Level: B1
I actually regressed a lot in Russian last year. I knew it was going to happen. A year without contact with the language at this stage pretty much always has negative consequences. It’s not as solid a B1 as it could be and I think I’m still at a stage where I might forget the language if I stop engaging with it for a while, which is not the case with English, German or French. I need to work a lot here, to make up for last year and also, again, to consolidate my grammar. I need to keep going to class no matter how tired I am, because if I leave it to myself ’m going to end up doing nothing at all. I know this is going to take a very long time to improve and I need to work on my vocabulary a lot too, so I’m stuck here for a while.
Goals: Consolidate, consolidate, consolidate, improve vocabulary
Castillian (Spanish)
Level:????
Castillian/Spanish is always the odd one out. It’s also the only one that only shows up in the english version of my CV, because I wouldn’t dare put it in the portuguese version. The only portuguese people who put Spanish in their CVs are people who either a) have formally studied Spanish or b) people who don’t know any other languages. It just looks a little...lazy to me, no offence to those who do it, but I don’t feel comfortable putting it next to all the toher languages I’ve seriously worked on. And to me, knowing as I do that I don’t actually know proper Spanish, just portuñol, it wouldn’t feel right to have it there. I can understand most of spoken Spanish, I can speak it the way a particularly illiterate spaniard might, and I can read most things. I can’t write a word. So of course I can’t say I know Castillian/Spanish. Would I like to work on it? Sure, but it’s low on my priority list. And to be completely honest, what spanish I do know is more than enough for another country (like, say, Germany), but nowhere near enough for either my own country or a Spanish speaking country. Which means I’d have to put a lot more effort into Spanish if I wanted to do something with it here, and right now I’d prefer to focus on the other languages.
Goals: None, really. Getting better eventually.
Mandarin
Level: None
Mandarin is the language I’m currently using to test duolingo and other language learning apps. Basically I want to do all of the stuff on those apps and find out if it helped at all once I start taking classes a few years from now. I can’t pretend I wouldn’t like to take Mandarin classes now, but at the moment it’s just not feasible. I have to start “finishing” the other languages before I can even consider seriously studying Mandarin. I’ll need a clearer mind and I won’t have that until I stop worrying about studing 3-4 other languages too.
Goals: Just have fun; try to understand to which extent language learning apps actually work

hi i’m mae, i reset and am revamping my blog and not tagging this with anything until i establish things a bit more cause i’m a bit unsure of what im doing. everything is under the read more
im a 20-year-old student planning on majoring in linguistics. from the usa/currently live here. have lived in spain and germany.
this blog is for my language learning process. probably going to be mostly reblogging resources and posting vocab lists, media recs, and progress stuff. i’m not an aesthetic sort of learner so while i might be reblogging some inspo stuff, none of that is going to be coming from me.
so onto the languages...
english - native speaker.
actively learning:
italian - my main priority right now. i’ve been studying anywhere from 10min to 2 hours a day and am progressing fairly fast. working on grammar and trying to confidently watch movies and tv with little reliance on subtitles.
sort of passively learning
spanish - lived in spain, functionally fluent. my main goal is just reading some novels and building up vocab, but not a huge priority right now.
german - lived in germany for a bit but i’m not very good. my grammar is shit and i can’t read it well but i’m fantastic in a conversation. main goal is to develop grammar and vocab but again, not a big priority right now.
chinese - i took a year of chinese this past year at uni, and i’m enjoying it. not sure how much i’m going to be focusing on it in the next few months but definitely trying to maintain it.
on hold
portuguese - can read and understand movies/tv, but not speak or write.
galician - pretty much same level as portuguese
future plans/ideas?
irish - want to connect a bit with my heritage
basque - have always been fascinated with this language
arabic
hindi - with arabic, i want to speak the major languages of the world
romanian - bruh wouldn't it be cool to hit all the romance languages? (would then go and learn the rest too)
russian - i wanna read the cryllic alphabet and use it?
french
swahili - with french, another big plan is knowing enough languages to pretty confidently travel around the world, and while fuck the french, it's spoken pretty widely in africa and would be helpful, and swahili is not as tied to the colonial history so that would be very cool
icelandic - it just looks cool and sounds nice?
my process
right so if i'm not in a formal classroom for a language, i've got a thing sort of down...
add top 500-1000 words to a deck on anki
get intense about studying the anki deck and memorizing
also work on learning to write the writing system if it's not latin characters
after some vocab is down, create a basic grammar anki deck (verb conjugation practice, word order tests, measure word quizzes, etc. i.e. whatever is needed)
get a workbook, textbook, and/or grammar pdf and work through it page by page
if nothing else, make sure you do the anki everyday. if you skip the book cause you're busy, that's okay
at some point (preferable earlier) start watching tv shows and youtube, and listening to music
practice reading stuff out loud and recording yourself
translate song lyrics!
take it easy, it's supposed to be fun. seriously as long as you get the anki stuff down for the day and are doing other stuff 3-4 times a week, that's on track for my own pace. and it's manageable for my adhd.
blog stuff
the general plan for tagging is as follows:
language specific content will be tagged #sb [language] with the two letter iso code for the language
resources are #resources
and the different types of content will be tagged by description (#vocab list, #music rec etc.)
god this is long sorry. if you made it this far, thanks! and welcome? maybe i'll be more active than i used to. x
