baby cakes
starter for @rkjordan
“hi, baby cakes. did you miss me?” with a cheeky grin on his face, jibeom plops himself down and scoots himself closer to his friend before dropping a plastic bag down on the table. “i went to the store nearby and got you your favorite things. am i sugar daddy material or what?”
“ugh but can you believe i’m still single... when i’m capable of doing shit like that? people are missing out on what a catch i am.” shaking his head, jibeom leans his chin to rest on the palm of his hand. truthfully, he last thing he wanted to ask jordan was anything about practice. they were both there anyways. they know exactly how it’s been going lately. “anything new going on for you?”

˙ ˖✶ im nayeon for trc’s triple threat challenge! ↬ performing la la love by wjsn // 0:09 — 1:54!
there’s a distant sense of panic beginning to set in, her heart hammering in her chest, and nayeon can’t help the barrage of doubt and second guesses that begin to cloud her thoughts for what must have been the hundredth time that day— was this the right thing to do? could she really do this? was she really ready to try again, to start back on the path to improvement?
it had been her grandmother who told her of the auditions, showing her phone in nayeons face the day news of the competition first dropped. she could still hear the old woman's voice ringing in her ears, and it was enough to make a grin ( albeit a small one ) form on her lips. nayeon had tried to talk her way out of it, worry settling in the pit of her stomach at the thought of having to put together another routine, only to be failed one more, but her grandmother had put up a pretty convincing argument— i’ll drag you there myself if i have to, so you better have something ready to show!
so, she’d given in, and over the last week, had come to familiarize herself with a spare practice room in the dance studio she’d spent the majority of her teen years in. it had surprised her— how happy she’d been upon first walking in, old faces lighting up at the sight of her, and it was then that she truly realized how much she’d missed that feeling. the realization offered her comfort, a small sense of ease and muscle memory returning to her what she’d thought she’d lost little by little with each passing day spent mulling over what she’d be doing once she was called up to the stage.
now, at the actual venue, waiting to her name to be called, it’s hard to muster up the small bought of confidence she’d built up when practicing on her own.
“maybe i shouldn’t have come...” her words come out in low mutters, face pensive as her eyes jump between various other bodies, all seemingly stuck in their own bubbles while going through last-minute preparations and quick routine rehearsals as names are called one by one. vaguely, in her own foggy mind, a few faces stand out in recognition, but she keeps to herself regardless— she was in no mood to make small talk with others right now, not while she’s still attempting to steady her breathing ( she also doesn’t want to disrupt anyone else who might also be trying to get into the proper headspace ).
if she was being honest, she’s glad she’d ended up coming on her own, knowing lighthearted distractions from a close friend or family member were the last thing she needed at a time like this ( even if said distraction was meant to be encouraging ).
no, coming alone had definitely been the right choice, even if she now had to deal with her neverending nerves and doubts on her own. she was used to doing that by now— used to having to cheer herself up and make herself push through mental difficulties.
if she could get through this, regardless of whether she succeeded or failed, nayeon had faith in herself that maybe, just maybe, she truly was making proper steps towards the improvement she’s so desperately wanted to make over the last year of inactivity. the rejection she’d faced after her first audition offer months ago had done quite the number on her fragile conviction, a heavy cloud of sadness hovering over her for a good while before it felt like she could breathe again. that had been unexpected, and she didn’t like feeling like that.
the night before, she made herself a promise— regardless of what happened, she wouldn’t let the disappointment of another rejection overtake and dissuade her so easily again.
her name is called and it feels like someone’s dumped a bucket of ice water on her head.
before she walks up into the stage, she gives herself a second to loosen up, to try and make herself seem more at ease than she actually is. the deep breathes she takes help somewhat, her shoulders less stiff and breathing much calmer. walking on, she’s grateful she doesn’t trip over her own feet as she’s met with the hard stares of tiger jk and his group of fellow judges set on her ( she’s glad crowds haven’t become very intimidating for her the way they’d once been when she first started dancing— it’s easy to let her eyes bounce around unknown faces before settling back towards the judges ).
as she speaks, nayeon is glad her voice stays fairly level, and she lets her smile shine through sweetly as she gives a polite bow. “hello, my name is im nayeon! thank you for having me today, i hope you enjoy my performance!” with her introduction out of the way, she gets herself into position, waiting for the music to start. the moment she hears the songs intro, she moves with fluidity and ease, her body moving with a sort of elegance that was a mix of natural talent and practiced technique.
as she begins with the opening lines, nayeon knows her rapping isn’t her best skill. really, she’s not ashamed to say it’s definitely her worst, her focus always having been geared towards dancing and a sense of stage presence ( and to an extent, once she’d caught interest in musical theater back in her later years of high school, singing ), but that didn’t mean she was afraid to try— well, that was a lie. but, regardless of her fears, that wouldn’t stop her from trying. if she was required to show off rapping skills, then that’s what she’d do, even if they were subpar. to combat this, however, she’s glad she’d gone with a song that wasn’t heavily reliant on rap, one that went for more of an idol style rap, almost like sing-talking. she gets through it simply, going into vocals are her body moves seamlessly.
La la love (ah) La la la la la love Everything happened in a flash It bloomed in my heart I call it love 반짝 불빛이 반짝 두 눈을 깜빡 내 앞에 넌 서있어 찰칵 또 한 번 찰칵 지금 그대로의 널 담겠어
she’s sure to keep her vocals as stable as she can, not wanting to go too extreme in making them a stand out within the performance, putting more emphasis in her moves in the hopes that they’ll shine through the most and give off the best impression. what she lacks in other areas, she’s more than happy to make up for with her dancing until she can improve wherever else she needs to.
as she goes through the pre-chorus, she’s sure to have her expressions match the tone of the song, keeping her features alluring with each glance she throws the judges ( as well as the ones she gives to members of the audience— eye contact was important. it helped leave an impression, and that’s what nayeon wanted to do. she didn’t want to be forgotten ). she keeps her voice clear, letting her moves die down in their intensity only a little bit as the music builds up to the chorus.
너무 아름다운 너 stay 날 향한 시선 stay 지금 내 눈 속에 담긴 내 맘속에 새긴 이 순간 어쩌면 영원할 la la love La la la la la love La la la la so stay (stay stay) La la love La la la la la love 머물러 내 곁에 그대로 멈춰줘 잠깐 초점을 맞춰서 찰칵
with the start of the chorus, while she makes sure not to overdo it too much so her vocals don’t sound messy, nayeon puts more grace into the songs point choreography, never missing a beat with each transition she makes into the next string of moves. it’s almost like a domino effect, precision a key, and nayeon feels good. this had been her favorite part of the whole song, and she wanted to make sure she did justice to it as she showcased it to the audience and panel of judges. she’s glad for the clips pining hair down on one side of her head, knowing that it would have gotten in her face numerous amounts of times by now had it now been for them. it’s easy for her to flip strands from the other side back into place without disruption, giving a pretty smile as she does so ( and maybe even a small wink to an onlooker she’d made eye contact with ).
as she speaks the last part of the chorus, the song transitioning into the final portion, she takes a deep breath as she readies herself.
similar to how it’s originally done, she keeps her style of rapping in a more sing-song style, letting it more so flow than spitting bars. for her, it’s more of a time to wind everything down, trying to keep her tone smooth as she finishes with the music and her voice fading out, striking a finishing pose.
어쩜 나의 착각 없던 작은 바람 어떤 장난처럼 또 한 순간에 차오른 너 그냥 이대로 stay (save) 조금의 차이도 no no more 달이 맘처럼 차오르는 밤 날 안고 데려가
she waits a beat, letting the music fade a moment longer before moving to bow to the judges once more with a small smile before making her way off the stage, her breathing more erratic after moving around so much, heart beating just as madly as it had been before she’d even signed herself up for the competition. as she walks back into the area where people were still waiting for their turn, absentmindedly hearing another name being called for their turn to perform, nayeon can’t help but let out a heavy sigh that she hadn’t even realized she’d been holding in.
she was done— she’d done it. gone up there and given the best performance she could given the challenge.
whatever happened now, she’d just have to wait and see. all she was sure of was that, even if nothing came out of these officially, at least she knew she was ready to perform once again.

The man listens to your answer attentively, and, once you’re done, takes only a few seconds before reaching inside the inner pocket of his coat. “That’s a very interesting point of view. We’d love to see how you fare in that skill.” He hands you a card with TRC’s contacting information on it. If you were still looking at him you could spot a smug smile. “If you enter in contact with us soon you may schedule an audition with TRC. Hope to see you later.” And so the agent walks away, possibly in search for his next target.
she’s momentarily stunned where she stands, eyes flitting back and forth between the retreating figure of the scout and the business card now held loosely between still fingers— to think the very first time she’d ever be scouted would be from the company she’d almost immediately thrown right to the bottom of her list when weighing potential options. she didn’t know what to think, how to feel, the only proper reaction she can give once the man is out of sight and she’s left once more to her own business is to let out a chuckle in disbelief.
even as she finally manages to move from her spot, her initial plans of watching her friends performances in support back in motion, reality sets in and rather annoyingly pulses in the back of her mind.
an audition.
a proper audition, one with a rather impressive company, an opportunity she knew so many would fight her for if they could. she hates how conflicted she feels, her own stubborn nature adamant to let the chance go just as quickly as it had come ( trc wasn’t for her. trc didn’t have what it was she wanted— at least, that’s what she kept telling herself ). as the day goes on, her thoughts become muddier, cluttered with what if’s and just do it’s.
she’d need to think more about it, to talk to someone ( her sister, jaehyun, yerim— anyone who could help her make up her mind ). she let out a sigh.
“this is interesting…”
( OOC: Congratulations on being scouted by TRC! In case your muse is interested, they may schedule their audition anytime between the 22nd and 7th IC. The person in the call will let them know to prepare their performance surrounding only one skill they consider their strongest. In case you ask, they’ll reply it does not need to be the one you said on your answer. Please have your 250+ word audition solos up by midnight the end of Wednesday, May 8th EST. Please tag your solos with #rkttc2audition. Good luck! )

SEPTEMBER EVALUATION ♡ ROYAL ENT. ⇢ preparations . . .
it was one thing after another with these evaluations these days. but at least, to rose’s relief, she was able to sing again. she certainly wouldn’t missing modelling. her immediate reaction upon hearing this month’s . . . theme was confusion. were they that out of ideas that they had to look to astrology? okay, so maybe rose wasn’t totally opposed to the idea, but it still felt a little out of place. besides, rose didn’t know anyone else with her star sign, so that made things a little more complicated. she’s introduced to two new people upon preparing for this evaluation, both from trc entertainment, a couple of years younger than rose in both experience and age. they’re jibeom and bella, and from first appearances, the two both seem nice enough, easy to get along with. rose is hopeful that they actually do end up getting along. it’ll make for a better evaluation.
the three of them manage to get together one day and start discussing possible songs for their evaluation. and to rose’s surprise, everything in thrown down on the table. at first, some research is needed, given the song is supposed to emulate the energy of one’s star sign. aquarius, as the group had read, were assertive and independent. also confident, wanting to be unapologetically themselves; it seemed easy enough, there were bound to be many songs fitting for that concept. rose honestly wasn’t phased by what the group chose. after all, she was just grateful to be able to sing again. after some discussion, the trio finally manage to come to a decision.
it’s nice to be back in the studio, learning a new routine with new people. although rose loathes her day to day routine normally, doing something out of the ordinary had been refreshing. and both jibeom and bella had been good to work with, not that she wanted to be surprised but it could be daunting working with new people, especially given rose’s current state and lack of internal mental motivation. together, the three of them learn the lyrics to the song and then the choreography, before merging it together into what one would hope to be a feasible, enjoyable performance. rose is hopeful, as she always is. after all, her optimism was at it’s peak when she got the opportunity to perform.

September Evaluation - TRC Ent. Zimzalabim - Red Velvet (Irene)
Of course, singing or rapping was required again, but at least dancing was still possible, which was definitely something. Plus, she was in the same group as Yeji, so that lifted her mood by tenfold.
Previously the girl hadn't really known much about zodiacs in general. She knew her sign, but that was it and so far, she'd never cared much to change that. Now she was definitely more knowledgeable on the topic and while she didn't think indecisiveness quite suited her, being two-faced did more than she cared to admit.
Zimzalabim was definitely an interesting choice, the sound fitting a bit more than the lyrics in her eyes, but the lyrics still working well, too. She got the rap part, which was always a plus considering her voice never wanted to reach notes as high as she wanted it to. Though she did like that it was a little more unique.
Either way she got to rap, she got to dance, the song was nice, there wasn't really anything to complain about.
The month passed by quickly as usual and she was excited for their performance, the song having grown on her and practising had been fun, especially with Yeji. Her first lines started rather soon in the song, though most were shared lines, which she did appreciate with rappers usually not having too many lines in songs.
Though in this case, she would’ve been fine even with just the rap. Was she actually starting to become more modest? She didn’t know much about zodiacs, still, but somehow it didn’t fit with her image of a gemini.
As usual, she enjoyed dancing the most, flying over the stage. The moves themselves weren’t exceedingly difficult, but of course, there was always more to it than just the dance, especially with a rather unusual song like this. Then again, that’s the kind of performances she enjoyed. Sure, extra complicated dances were fun, she really enjoyed learning them and feeling accomplished once she’d gotten them down, but uniqueness was at least just as interesting to her.
Her rapping was fine too, she’d done more difficult ones before, but she’s also done worse before, so overall, it seemed like a win to her as well. Of course, the coaches would find something to criticise, she thought, but then looking for even the smallest details was their job, no? So they could train them to be the best of the best and that was what she wanted to be after as well.

TRIPLE CROWN ENTERTAINMENT, or TRC for short, was founded by the former composer and rap artist, TIGER JK. originally created on nothing, Tiger JK's ambition to have his trainees carry on his legacy became an avant garde sensation in the States, Japan and Korea. Currently, TRC Entertainment remains the hardest company to enter. The training period for TRC Ent. is brutal and only a few trainees ever get to see the limelight of the stage. Only the most talented artists can survive TRC's rigorous training and see the shining end to their efforts.
CURRENT MALE TRAINEES: @rkpcy, @rkxtae, @rkseungjoon, @changminxrk, @rkxsicheng, @rkxjongsuk, @rkhyunjoon, @rkwoong, @rkyoungjae, @rkdongmin, @yutark

IN FIRST PLACE...
[ ♔ ] FROM TRC ENT …………. TEAM SIRIUS !
With a loud noise, confetti starts to fall from the sky, congratulating the winners of this season. “Woo!” Tiger JK shouts into his microphone, a hand up in cheers. “You did a great job tonight, one to make TRC proud.” He starts. “You picked yourselves back up from last week’s results and did the best that you could today, as can be proven by these results. You made me proud, which is better than anything else, probably, so you should be proud of that, too.”
He smiles at the contestants below before continuing. “I’d love for HWANG YEJI and LEE CHAERYEONG to join TRC Entertainment. The two of you proved yourselves very well and I’d love to see what more you could do with our help.”
“And me, too,” Baek Jiyoung speaks up. “I’d like to offer KANG HYUNGGU a contract to Sphere Entertainment. I believe your talents would fit us very well, and it’d be a pleasure to have one of the winners in my company… again!” The woman chuckles, looking over at her fellow judges.
“And as for CHOI MINHO…” Tiger JK continues. “None of the companies felt like they could offer you a contract quite yet. But you proved your skills and you are a winner today as well and will receive the other winner rewards. Congratulations.”
The MC quickly takes it away, giving the camera a bright. “This brings this season to an end! All of the performances may be watched on our official channel, and please look forward to what all these contestants will come up with in the future! Thank you for watching, and see you next time!”
OOC: Thank you all who participated or showed an interest in this season of the MGAs. It was a long and arduous trip but we’ve all made it! Congratulations to all of those who survived this long, and hopefully you enjoyed your stay.
Details about the winner rewards will come later in a separate post.
If your muse has been offered a contract, congratulations! It’s been a long and stressful journey, and they deserve this little moment of glory. Be proud!
Everything you need to know regarding the trainee life can be found here. If you have additional questions, feel free to send asks to the rkevent blog or Mod Bianca on tumblr (@rkseungjoon)/twitter (@luvseungjoon) or Mod Gab on tumblr (@rkdoyexn)/twitter (@jindeukii)!
If your muse chooses to accept the offer, feel free to hop over their new company’s blog and sign the contract. Keep in mind that there are no added penalties in case they decide not to be signed! The choice is entirely yours to make, so think carefully before reaching a decision! If your muse decides not to sign their contract, please let us know as well either by messaging a mod or the company’s blog.
To all of those who participated in this episode, feel free to add +3 SHOWCASED PERFORMANCE SKILL to your points sheet. This includes members eliminated on this episode. Please link this post as verification.
Not only that, but all of the finalists will also receive a +1WK VARIETY. You do not need to be a trainee to collect this. You are free to tally up this achievement on your blog even if your muse didn’t sign a contract tonight - however, keep in mind that once your muse gets signed, you will have to add this to their base form as an achievement previously won through MGA SEASON 5.
Before someone asks: Yes, new trainees can take part in this month’s evaluation.

TRC ENT PRIVATE AUDITION :: AHN YUJIN
[ performance / havana (0:00 - 1:08) ]
her jaw absolutely goddamn drops when her name is called by tiger jk himself. first of all, she hadn’t expected him to actually address them backstage. just seeing him on eye-level now felt unreal, one of the industry’s leaders...he watched her perform. wow. but the moment her name came up first, followed by five others, set her heart into a frenzy. they? wanted her? for a private audition?! her eyes were wider than saucers upon hearing the details and she nearly misses the following explanation in her panic.
to prepare a performance displaying her strongest skill...it’s got to be dance, right? she’s been practicing hard enough to make her own mother worry about her wellbeing for once, and it’s all been for opportunities like this. she stumbles out of the waiting room in a daze and meets up with heejin and donghyuck almost immediately outside. they all had news to share, and yujiin’s never been more excited for anything in her life. the chance to audition for and (hopefully!) join the same company as two of her most precious friends? she hopes the universe doesn’t take this away from her.
after some quick texts to juyeon and jaemin telling them of the situation, she finally calms down enough to think. it’s got to be dance for her—but which one should she do? it’s probably best to not use something she’s already uploaded before, and it has to be a dance she’s confident in, one that shows off her best sides. then something clicks in her mind, one song standing out from the rest. she quickly searches up the video and shows it to the other two.
“i’m going with this one!”
with cheers and good lucks from her friends and family, yujin finds herself nearly dying upon entering the trc building. her heart thumps so loudly in her chest that she’s sure she’s about to just up and die right before the audition.
it doesn’t get any better on the way to the room, her palms are sweaty (knees weak, arms are heavy), and she’s barely able to focus on the trip. going over the choreography in her head, she nearly bumps into the door in her distracted state. with a sheepish laugh, she thanks the clerk(?) and knocks on the door gingerly before pushing it open.
with a greeting thrown the way of the judges, she sets her bag down awkwardly before shuffling onto the center stage. it’s much different now that she isn’t in front of a crowd, but instead in a small room with only a panel. the camera set up brings up bad memories of previous auditions, but she tries to get rid of the negativity in her mind. she isn’t acting this time, she isn’t going to be out of her element. she’s going to dance, and she’s going to do it well.
havana, ooh na-na half of my heart is in havana, ooh-na-na he took me back to east atlanta, na-na-na oh, but my heart is in havana there's somethin' 'bout his manners havana, ooh na-na
the music starts and yujin takes those brief seconds to control her breathing, calm down, and focus. she’s gone over the moves so many times already, she knows what to do. she knows she can do it, and she’s so goddamn ready to.
with a couple of swaying steps forward, the first line kicks in and she starts off strong. the moves stay on about the same level of energy, so she isn’t about to risk falling off by the end of it. plus, the dance is fun, so she’s just as happy to keep it going. into the final line, she slows down and raises her arms into the air, before kicking the verse off with a pop.
he didn't walk up with that "how you doin'?" (when he came in the room) he said there's a lot of girls I can do with (but i can't without you) I knew him forever in a minute (that summer night in june) and papa says he got malo in him he got me feelin' like ooh-ooh-ooh, i knew it when i met him i loved him when i left him got me feelin' like ooh-ooh-ooh, and then i had to tell him i had to go, oh na-na-na-na-na
she feels herself looking at the panel, but her mind doesn’t move fast enough to process any of their reactions (if they even are giving any). still, she remembers to keep her expressions intact, knowing that it’s easily one of the ways to impress. with a confident, charming, and seductive (god knows how she’s pulling off that one) smile on her lips, she hits every move perfectly. just as she’s practiced over and over in the studio, at home, and even on the way here.
she wants this opportunity.
havana, ooh na-na half of my heart is in havana, ooh-na-na
as the chorus comes back in, the end of her performance draws near. with a final slide into her ending pose, lowering herself down to the ground before rising back up again, she slowly comes back to planet earth as the music fades out. she straightens herself out and breathes out a quick sigh of relief, even if she could feel her nerves rising back to the surface again.
“thank you for your time,” she gives the judges a bow, biting down on her lower lip nervously. had she done well? did she really just zone out for the whole performance? she can barely remember how she did now, only that no mistakes stood out as particularly damning. maybe it’s actually better that she didn’t have a reason to remember anything about it.
well, all she can do now is wait and see.

starter for @rkseunghun
jibeom knows him. he’s seen him before so many times. from the mgas, from mbc gayo’s live opening stage, from the winter singer contest. he knows him. it’s weird that they haven’t spoken much to one another and yet here they are in the same company. at least, that’s what jibeom thinks because why else would the other guy be here inside the walls of trc.
he’s mustering up the courage to introduce himself and talk to the other after psyching himself out after a couple of attempts. jibeom clears his throat to catch the other’s attention. with a shy smile, he awkwardly lifted his hand in a wave before realizing how dumb it was of him to do so when they were already in close proximity to one another. faking a cough and sheepishly smiling, jibeom tried again.
“uh, hey there, i know... you.” real smooth, kim jibeom, real smooth. he quickly tries to fix his mistake. “i mean! you’re a familiar face and like... i’ve seen you around at different... contests and stuff.”
jibeom runs a hand over his face and exhales a shaky breath. “sorry, i’m not usually so awkward. i don’t even know why i’m nervous? so lemme just officially introduce myself.” he clears his throat and plasters on a soft, genuine smile. “hi, i’m jibeom and it’s really nice to meet you officially officially.... i’d say it’s fate for us since we keep appearing at the same places, don’t you think?”

MGA SEASON FIVE ! EP. 0 → PART THREE: INTERVIEW
this is the part that should really scare her. it scarcely matters how talented you are if you don’t have either the personality to match or to cover where you lack. some idols have both and still don’t make it, still go on shows like this and get pushed to the sidelines but siyeon knows it’s still the best way to make sure she’s liked by the staff enough to go through, and, if she makes it, the viewers so their support can keep her in the competition. she doesn’t know if this year will have viewer voting, but regardless, popularity can make or break a contestant, so it’s better to be safe than sorry. but she isn’t scared, really. it’s just talking, right? and she’s so good at that.
she wouldn’t say she has the most pleasant personality all the time. she’s not mean, she doesn’t think, but she is competitive when it comes to the things she holds closest. it’s this side of her that makes baking her best strength and weakness. the force of her love and passion for the hobby means she constantly improves but even the slightest threat from others has her body quaking with anger and her foot stomping in a tantrum. maybe she’s spoilt ( she is ) or maybe she’s just too confident ( she is ), but a girl who has grown up always surrounded by praise— it’s hard to take criticism on the things she believes herself to be the ‘best’ at.
thankfully, she knows she isn’t the next chichi’s nara or really any of the legendary group’s members, but she isn’t bad either. she’s not going to throw her toys out of the pram if someone can hit a higher note than she can, or move more smoothly to the melody than she can. disheartened, maybe, but not bitter.
point is, whilst she isn’t a monster, she isn’t a perfectly polite, picture-perfect idol type either. closer to that, she hopes, than the former, though. her parents ( or her grandparents for a lot of the time, really ) didn’t raise her to be needlessly cruel. outspoken, yes, but not cruel. all she has to do is think about her words before she opens her big mouth — not say anything that can be misconstrued. surely it’s got to be ridiculously hard to screw up answering simple questions. it’s not like they’re going to ask her for her political views or for an in-depth analysis of the industry... right?
she shuffles on the seat to ensure she’s comfortable before they start. the worst thing for a setting like this would be to fidget. she’d only look nervous and uncomfortable. boarding school had taught her this, at least, in all their etiquette lessons to force the rebellion out of teenage students. she’d done so many fake university and job interviews over the years that she’d honestly be disappointed in herself if she fucked this up.
“introduce yourself briefly.” the interviewer, an intimidating man probably in his late-thirties, asks her. she grins, a bright and happy smile because easy! an easy start is likely only to make her complacent for the rest of the questions, but at the very least, she can get this right.
“hello!” she waves to the camera, her movements fast but small. “my name is park siyeon! I’m nineteen and my favourite drink is a rich strawberry milkshake.” her eyes sparkle as she laughs airily. she wants to say more, talk about her baking, about how she lived abroad for almost three years, but he’s already moving on to the next question before she gets chance to suck in another breath.
the interviewer shuffles his papers after pointing out, “you listed mostly soloists for your favourite musicians.” an attempt to prompt her to somehow slander groups, she imagines. “tell us about your musical inspirations.”
she breathes in deeply through her nose but masks it with a hum quickly after. if she really wanted to overdo it, she’d tap her fingertip against her chin but she isn’t in a drama nor a cartoon, so she just smiles. “I really enjoy soft acoustic music! you know, the stuff you can put on your headphones and look out the car window and pretend you’re the lead in a drama. personally, I turn to music to relax so tunes that are gentler are perfect for that and there are so many great soloists out there for this vibe. but, I enjoy music across lots of genres! I really love k.arma and convex’s music so far! no playboy is definitely going to be in the top three of my ‘most played’ playlist at the end of the year.” she laughs louder this time, enough for its unusual side to shine through. “I like singing ballads because I love the emotions you can convey and feel listening and singing to them. I feel like the connection formed is so strong when you can feel the vocalist’s pain or joy through their voice.”
the interviewer waves a hand, nods to let her know she’s said enough for this question. they must have a set amount to get through. she waits patiently as the interviewer scans over her papers again.
“so why do you want to be an idol?”
she knew the question would come even if she didn’t fully accept it. they were bound to ask why she’s here in some way, shape or form, right? so why is she here? to try something new? to see if she can make it? to test a career she’d always considered in the deepest corners of her mind but pushed away? to just plainly see if success here would satisfy the empty, uncertain feeling about her future brewing in her stomach?
can she even say any of these to the interviewer?
quiet for a few beats too long, he prompts her once again to hurry. hastily, she laughs again, a little more nervous than anything but she hopes it’s infectious enough that no one really takes any notice to its deeper implications. “I really want to see if I can do it,” is all she says at first, biting on her bottom lip. “I’d always had a nagging thought in the back of my head watching idols on television and listening to music when I was younger— that maybe music was something I should consider for my future. when I went abroad for school, I kind of gave up on the possibility, pushed it to the back of my mind. but you never know unless you try, right? so I’m here to try my best and see what happens! if all else fails, at least I can say I tried and hopefully, made some lifelong friends along the way. I won’t go down without a fight, but I won’t allow anything or anyone but me to define me. you know?”
the interviewer seems happy enough, moving on to what he claims is the last question.
“you chose kt as your top company, but you didn’t list any of their artists as your favourite musicians. why did you choose kt?”
she beams. an easy question to finish on, too! she’s come full circle as she grins just as brightly, thankfully forgoing the wave. “I think I’d be a good fit for kt! I definitely enjoy their artists’ music, but I think kt overall has a typical image for its idols that matches well with me. kt artists are always vibrant and likeable as if you’re watching clips of your friends rather than celebrities. not to mention talented, too. I might only be the first two, that’s up to you to decide, but that’s the kind of image I’d like to have as an idol — someone who is really approachable and a 'happy virus’, but also professional and skilled.” plus, isn’t it kind of embarrassing to want to get into the companies your favourite artists are at just because of that? “I listed trc ent as my second company, though, because I think they’d help shape me to be really unique as a performer even if I think I’d be a bit of a black sheep amongst all that coolness.” she giggles one last time, each of her ‘ha’s coming out clearer than the last.
“and we’re done with the interview.” he indicates, her ears perking up as she realises she’ll be moving on to the next portion of the audition process. ( not that she can remember what it is, but regardless. )
“great! thank you!” curiously, she tilts her head and asks, “so, what’s next on the agenda?”

( ♡ trc street casting— jeon heejin, april 21st! )
there’s a certain intense and energetic energy floating in the air, one that heejin can’t help but match as she watches performance after performance from the crowd, her head bopping in time to different to the beats of different songs. she doesn’t know why, but she’s nervous— no, that was a lie. the dark haired girl knew exactly why she was nervous, the sole reason for her even being in attendance for trc’s triple threat challenge being to show support for yerim and yujin, two incredibly close friends who’d decided to take part in the competition.
she was nervous for them, nervous for the outcomes of the day, and she was hopeful— wishful that, by a mixture of their talents and luck, they would shine. they were both insanely talented ( at least, to heejin they were, but she was biased ). they worked hard, so they deserved good things.
neither of her friends had been up to perform yet, and neither of their names had been the next one to be called when the current performer walked off stage, so when a man politely called for attention, she figured she could spare the time. she could vaguely recall seeing him walking around amongst the crowd, stopping to talk with other bystanders before moving onto the next random pick— heejin had been almost positive he was a scout, but now she was sure.
it was a shame, really, that she had no interest in trc, but playing along wouldn’t hurt.
“what performance skill is the most important for an artist to master?”
heejin’s brows furrow gently as she regards the question, head tilting as she gazed at the man. “i mean, for me, i’ve always put importance on vocals— singing has always been my passion, so naturally, it’s what i find to be the most important. to make people feel something with song, hitting that sweet note that sends shivers down someone's spine and makes them look at you with awe? that’s everything,” she fires off without hesitance, eyes steady and sure of her words. when the man doesn’t say anything more, heejin simply gives a tight smile, distantly hearing the next name to be called— yerim’s.
“if you’ll excuse me, i have a friend to cheer on,” she says, nodding towards the man before pushing her way deeper into the crowd, already lifting her arms to hold up the purple support banner she’d made that morning.

March Evaluation - TRC Ent Dream Concept: Red Velvet - Bad Boy [Joy] Nightmare Concept: Madtown BTS - Fire [Jota Hoseok] Performance
The outcome of the month of training was still confusing to the girl, when evaluation day arrived. She'd managed to keep a bit of hope for the surprising nightmare performance to turn out well and was very much excited for her unexpected dream performance. Since she was in a group that she liked, she was sure things would turn out for the better in the end, they usually did for her anyway.
The song started and after a few seconds they jumped into action.
The girl kept her expression mainly neutral, but with the hint of a cocky grin playing around her lips, taking inspiration from the original group's dance practise without exactly copying it. There was nothing to complain about concerning her moves, she was sure. And the energy was good as well, so far so good.
Not much later her first lines started. She was happy for her voice not to be super high, though it was still higher than the original rapper's. She looked confident and she felt confident. Liking the part, she delivered it well and fell to the side, to make space for the next rapper. Her joy quickly disappeared and her movements lacked the usual extra energy, presenting very openly how off she felt in that moment.
She was thinking too much about doing well to properly enjoy herself and that was okay she figured, until she noticed her expression had gone neutral as well. The more the song progressed, the more the girl realised how badly she was doing. Technically, she didn't do any mistakes while dancing, but the extra bit of effort that was supposed to make her a main dancer rather than just... someone in a group that also danced got smaller and smaller as time went on. Additionally, the style of rapping was quite different from what she was used to.
She did strive to become a good rapper, but that's it she had no ambitions to be a really good rapper (or what many would deem a “real” rapper). At least towards the end she pulled herself back together and made her face look like how it was supposed to be. But at this point she was already angry with herself.
The good thing was, that she didn't make too many mistakes. Of course not making mistakes didn't make one's performance good either, but she didn't want to drag a whole group down with her.
Had she never performed songs she didn't like before? Surely she must have? Or maybe she'd just always concentrated on what was fun to her.
Since that had been a literal nightmare, Chaeryeong could only do her best to make the dream performance a dream. She wasn't going to let her spirits be broken, after all this was her dream performance and they'd be judged much harder for this one than the other, she was sure.
The vibe of the song quickly drew her in, enough to focus on this instead of past mistakes. Those couldn't be fixed anymore anyway. With her expressions back as they should be and her motions as precise as usual, not lacking the energy they did before, Chaeryeong was much happier with herself again. There should be no reason for complaint of her group after this performance at least.
Things went much smoother... until she had to sing. Today something in this world really conspired against her, huh? So far so good, though, her voice may not have been quite high enough, for her solo lines, but it wasn't by much and she carried on confidently like nothing was wrong. And the latter parts worked out better as well. At this point she was unhappy enough with herself, to put as much effort in as she possibly could. And while the girl's judgement of herself was clouded at this point, she could still see that she progressed well through the song and definitely had the right energy while performing.
How come she was able to talk so well, but vocal performances weren't her thing? Overall she'd surely done okay enough for Fire and really well for Bad Boy, but with her mind beating itself up it was hard to tell at this point.
Either way, Chaeryeong had found a new weakness of hers and if she wasn't sure of other details concerning the performance, she was, without a doubt, sure about any and all weaknesses being unacceptable. But how would she ridden herself of an emotion that she couldn't control? How could she possibly make a performance fun if she had no say in how things would go? This was very much a possible scenario for how things could be once she'd debut. Was she not as good a performer as she'd always believed after all? Since, realistically speaking, she wouldn't have much of a choice in what kind of concept she'd debut with or how the group's comebacks would be like.
And in the end she was also left with the possibility that she simply wasn't good enough yet.
