Hey bendy it's October now are you ready and your friends to celebrate spooky month?
Tumblr media
[@bendyartist10]
Tumblr media
Short answer: no.
Long answer: we'll be outta here before Halloween comes around. What I mean by "outta here" is the early hiatus. Even if there wasn't a hiatus comin' up, there won't be any Halloween events coz we're in the middle of an arc right now, remember? We ain't puttin' the arc on hold ta dress up and give out candy. It ain't even supposed ta be October during this arc.

Arc-V 10th Anniversary Cafe (April 2024)
Tumblr media
Why can i only upload 10 images per post on the app sigh
I went twice, because the menu changed halfway!
Tumblr media
Actually it was prohibited to take photos of the projector screen for some reason (I don't get it, because it's the same art on the merch) but ummmm let's just keep it between ourselves okay
My first visit was near the end of the first menu, so seats were readily available! (We don't talk about when I was like oh maybe I'll go today- oh fuck what do you mean there's no more slots oops guess ill go tomorrow)
When I went in at 6.30pm it was pretty empty, and since I was first in the queue I got to choose where I wanted to sit! And of course I made a beeline to...
Tumblr media
While waiting for my food, of course I had to hit up the gacha (do not recommend, highly do NOT recommend) They had a bunch (think like 50-100 of those blind packs all stuffed into a basket and you do choose it yourself, but.....
You can only buy a maximum of 10 per type, and I was mainly looking for just the pawnies, though I was also looking for some of the others for friends...............
Tumblr media Tumblr media
... I love Running Reiji because he's a reference to the manga, which I love dearly, but holy hell after his 3rd appearance I was feeling. something. The way I spent $[redacted] on these and I got only 1 out of the 4 I wanted (also how cruel is it that I got everyone in Group B except for hayaku yuri, damn
Tumblr media
Halfway through the packs the Reiji drink (an iced sweet potato milk drink) i ordered arrived! and it came with a random novelty item like every item on the menu (Why is everything in Japan gacha. Just kidding I know the answer its the goddamn c word) and I got Reira! Very happy because she's one of my faves and she is so mega cute here
Anyway food's here!
Tumblr media
The amount of pasta looks little because i only remembered to take a photo midway (was too depressed over my pulls when I started eating)
I was STILL unboxing the blind packs when it arrived and when I say do not gacha it's because the number of repeats was already getting to me and by the time I finally got around to my pasta it was already lukewarm...
It was alright, it was just a cream pasta (I think I was supposed to pour the lemon juice onto it maybe?)
Tumblr media
Me when I consume lemons me too yugo so true
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the end you get to choose (yes CHOOSE and not gacha holy shit) a bromide of your own choosing for every 5,000 yen you spent (I guess that's why, because at that point you've already given them so much money the least they could do is to let you choose the little png to take home) took multiple of the yus so I can send them to friends!
Part 2 after I see if the airport gift shop has chiikawas...

Episodes and things
Hey! Here's some of the episodes that are gonna be in the comic. Sadly the comic probably won't be out until the @tmnt-iteration-compeition is already over but here's to grow excitement (Vote Cyberspace!!)
There will be multiple episodes with world building in them. I love world building and I hope you really like what I did! I took most inspiration from the Lost Years last ronin comics, Cyberpunk games, and the 2003 Future Shellshock arc.
I won't have many filler episodes. I'll probably have about 4 or 5 max, more or less. I'll have a shopping related filler episode, a turtle tots related filler, and a filler about April and her father's relationship.
Mostly because of how many guys are in the series, I decided to replace Casey Jones, with Angel Jones. Angel is not an original character, in the 2003 series Angel is Casey's neighbor, but in this version she is Casey's step sister. Angel is going to be helping Raph with his anger issues in the final resolve episode.
Right now there is 26 episodes, and 2 seasons, but that number will probably change. There will however be two seasons, and I have some of the episodes planned out. I haven't started writing and I probably won't until I'm certain in figuring out the order and what episodes there will be.
Mikey is the leader, but I decided that Leo will become the leader by the end of season 1.
Fun facts when making the series!:
Donnie was originally supposed to be the leader, and Mikey would've been a crawling gremlin, but I decided to make Mikey the leader and give him a more "teasing big brother" sort of vibe.
Donnie was going to get a whole redesign to be a different turtle, but I decided to leave it as be. I also decided to give him one of those full length masks that cover his whole top of his head.
Donnie was also originally going to be the oldest, yet Leo was always the youngest.
A lot of the characters didn't go through many changes.
Also, I've decided (begrudgingly) that April won't be a huge part of the story. Of course she'll be there, but she won't have a huge part. I can't fit her in to the story very well sadly.
Casey Jones will still be mentioned and make cameo's, but won't be apart of the whole story.
Tigerclaw was my favorite character to write the story of... >:) And will also receiving the honor of a redemption arc instead of death!

I saw your tweet about Usogui happening in 2008, if so, on what date did Kaji and Baku meet? Since during the chapter 2 we can see on the horse race ticket it says 06/04/2006. If we assume that they are on the previous day, then Baku met Kaji on April 5, 2006.
oh anon you have insanely good eyes. i reread the first couple chapters trying to see if theres any time indications there n never noticed its right there on the ticket, so thank you for catching this! its kinda blurry but itd be 2006年4(?)6日, right? i cant read japanese i just vaguely know what dates look like so i cant tell what kanji is after the 4, im assuming its for the month
Tumblr media
my 2008 claim comes from 2 places, one (the simplest) is during the air poker gamble its said eba died "10 years ago". we know he died in 1998, so air poker happens in 2008 (and so does everything else since radio tower since we know theres only 1 month between it and drop the handkerchief) but maybe this is supposed to be "almost 10 years/a decade" and the nuance was lost in translation?
Tumblr media
the 2nd place i got it from (and what i first noticed, and ill admit its less precise ence why ill say i "guessed" it happens in 2008) is during the paper labyrinth gambles we can see the whiteboard w dates available for the gamble. uhm i realize this is kind of convoluted to explain why it takes place in X year, but heres the explanation in short
yukiide has a 10 year memory gap that he only woke up from 2 years ago. he wants to fill this gap through this gamble, therefor hes only offering dates FROM this 10 year memory gap. (chapter 83)
the dates range from may 1997 (at the earliest) and december 2006 (at the latest) thats almost a full 10 years length so there IS some wiggle room here but not a lot (chapters 84 and 89 give us the best views of the board)
Tumblr media
SO yukii was unconscious until somewhere around late 2006/early 2007, and that was 2 years ago. so its AT LEAST 2008 in canon. i KNOW this isnt 100% solid proof cause itd mean if he woke up at the earliest on december 24th 2006, labyrinth takes place at the earliest on december 24th 2008? but we know what happens on that date thanks to the Eba death info, and its the protoporos arc! not labyrinth! so lets accept wiggle room into all of these indications ("eba died almost ten years ago", "i woke up roughly 2 years ago", "i was in a coma for about 10 years") i think its still a strong case for protoporos happening in 2008.
one last thing that might be my strongest point, but its out-of story info so i dont like defaulting to "the real world" as the definite truth-holder for fiction. but in this case, in usogui world there is a leap second added to january 1st of whatever year protoporos ends on. in the real world, there was a leap second added to 31st december 2008 (US time, january first 2009 for japan) in usogui its also said "its been 3 years since they last did it" which aligns with 2005 (2006 for japan) in the real world. (aside- protoporos cant end on january 1st 2006 since that ticket is dated to april 2006, no need to check if itd lign up with 2006 as the starting point) all the info about the leap second in chapter 525 aligns with my quick read through of the real world wikipedia page. again its not because it aligns with the real world that it HAS to be the truth (my own webcomic is not in sync with the real world moon phases, it doesnt make it NOT happen in 2023 all of a sudden though) which is why im NOT contesting the 2006 horse track ticket. it says 2006 therefor the story starts in 2006 end of discussion.
but it DOES brings up a super interesting question cause when i talked about this with people we all kind of assumed the story didnt take place in over a year & agreed on the 2008 confirmation with the eba line, but this would make the story span 2 years. when i read usogui again ill pay attention to time more (again) n try to get a coherent-ish timeline out of this seemingly 2 years gap? if anyone else has ideas about where all this time might be coming from you are also so so free to add your own speculation onto this. usoguis too big for me alone to remember everything about it no matter how many times i reread it lol.
though the simple answer is usogui started being published IRL in 2006 so the early chapters use 2006 as the placeholder year (including on the labyrinth whiteboard?) and then sako toshio changed his mind/forgot by the time he got to protoporos and made that 2008 to lign up with the real world leap second. i value what art has to bring to us over what the real world can bring to it so ill reject that notion but other people are free not to care as much as i do

I am really reallyyy curious about the ending now!
Pre episode 8, I was def not rooting for Topmew but now with Top's redemption arc and the return of ForceBook chemistry, I am def going Topisntthatbad, forgive him already and goooo back. Top did change for Mew as he promised him, change does not happen in an instant and the show showed him gradually changing. Amongst all the characters, Top is the only one who seems to not be obsessed but rather actually like Mew. Rest of the CPs are borderline addicted with their partner, which burns and ends fast. TopMew feel like a couple who could last if they sort out their issues.
Also, I was def rooting for RaySand endgame but the downward spiral of Ray, spiralled even more last ep. I am not so sure anymore. If it was not for their insane chemistry and my love for angst, I don't think so I could ship them. Till now I had found Ray endearing and justifiable on some levels but last ep he was an actual jerk to Sand obv with tons of double standards. Also, he tried to Kiss sand while being with Mew, a guy who he has been in love with and who recently got cheated upon!!. Mew said he did not have to worry about Ray going off with another guy 2 seconds ago. If he cannot care for wishes of someone like Mew, I don't think so he can do for Sand. And also Sand, the way he keeps giving in to Ray. He asked Nick to stop moving in circles, and Nick did find Daddy Dan. What does Sand do? He goes on a runaway trip with the guy he is supposed to move on from professing his love. RaySand are winning the toxic couple award for now
And BostonNick!! I never thought them to be endgame and I don't really want them to be. Nick clearly needs a therapist to work his obsessive behaviour and Boston needs some time alone to think about his life choices. I am all for slutty Boston, but not for his supreme urge to stir drama and people every where he goes. Also next ep show both Boston and Nick being with different people and I am so stressed that it will be the 9th episode and they will not have enough time to work out their issues and be together
But we still have 4 more episodes to go, my perception of Top changed in the last two episodes so let's see which direction p'new and p'jojo take this. But I think
1) SandRay will be endgame. They have been setting us most for this couple. But it will also have major redemption of Ray, he needs to be able to quit drinking to make this work. Ray drunk and sober are two different people in the way he treats Sand. And Sand needs to start being able to resist every whim of Ray
2) please get p'yo and plug back together!! They were the cutest and please don't break up April and Cheum
3) I am not sure what will happen with TopMew, they have no conflict left as per the trailer unlike RaySand. Mew will def get out of his spiral soon and Top seems to be making efforts, so I feel something external might break them if they break up. But I am getting a feeling they might also have some sort of endgame
4) BostonNick, they should have an endgame. Both are so fucked and Nick shows almost zero remorse of what he did and Boston is only stopped in tracks because of Mew's threat. Idk if they will have any redemption. I think Boston will fly away to Newyork and Nick will be left to move on

Going by the past sets, it seems the most likely option for the slots between Z-ARC, and Visas stuff is some sort of storyline theme, most likely a continuation of Abyss storyline.
Since Duelist Nexus only had 6 Synchros, most likely at least one of the 6 slots between Arcray Dragon, and the new Synchro will be a Synchro. It should be logically Ray, but if Abyss lore is in, it might be an Abyss lore related Synchro, in which case, the final form of Ray will likely be a LINK-8 monster instead.
Since there are only 9 cards between the new Synchro, and Z-ARC Spells, it doesn’t seem like there will be lots of Links, but there should be a fair amount of Xyz Monsters, due to Lightwurm’s effects.
Going by Visas storyline, it seems out our boy is back to step one (literally regressed back in time), in a greatly dimished form, and Veda, physical manifestation of his bloodlust, is planning to revive the previous Hearts as his quirky mid-boss squad (minus likely Riumheart, who is bonded spiritually to Kitkallos, and physically to Visas), presumably as Pendulums, going with the new Z-ARC support. So we are probably going to get a Link Pendulum for Reichheart, in contrast to my expectations.
(It seems our boy is stuck back at the Tearlaments world, since Scareclaw world, and Kashtira worlds appear in the background.)
Assuming Riumheart is also resurrected somehow, our boy might end up needing a new Extra Deck summoning method like our tomato, which means we may be getting a Master Rule revision sooner than we think.
Either way, our boy probably has to master the remaining 3 Summoning methods first, properly this time, and not go Vicious Astraloud again.
For reference:
Dimension Force: Introduction of the storyline, and Scareclaw.
Power of the Elements: Introduction of Tearlaments
Darkwing Blast: Introduction of Kashtira
Photon Hypernova: Introduction of Riseheart, and Arise-Heart
Cyberstorm Access: Introduction of Mannadium, and Astraloud. (Series 11 ends)
Duelist Nexus: Introduction of Veda, and the false ending.
Age of Overlord: Start of Season 2.
..
So I’m guessing:
October set (GX set): Tearlaments Round 2
January set (DM set): Ritual shenanigans.
April set (ZEXAL set): Kashtira Round 2.
July set (VRAINS set): Scareclaws Round 2
October set (5D’s set?): Mannadium Round 2 OR October set (GX set): Astraloud shenanigans.
January set (ARC-V set): End of Season 2.
Edit: Nevermind, I forgot there were supposed to be Six Worlds in the storyline:
Tearlaments’ is the First World.
Scareclaws’ is the Fourth World.
Mannadiums’ is the Fifth World.
Kashtiras’ is the Sixth World.
I got confused since many of the cards use puns based on 4 Worlds, but there are actually 6 of them. It is just the 4 ones are the core ones.
There is still the second, and third worlds to cover. Most likely they are going to be WIND-Ritual, and DARK-Pendulum.
Edit 2: Miswrote Kitkallos as Kitkalos. It has been corrected.

A little addition:
Tumblr media
Ok, so this "within the next year" was limited with she has "less than a year" left. So, from the time Hanako voiced she is going to die, the countdown started?
Talking about p.p arc, it takes place before July 15th, right?
Tumblr media
Hmm...
What does "less than a year" mean, anyway? Is it like... in between more than half a year and before a complete year?
Like, if she was supposed to die in less than half a year, he would have added this "half" to the phrase, meaning it's safe to assume she has more than half a year left, which also works well with the worst-case scenario, since Hanako said his words in June-early July, so we have a perfect half year left until the start of the next year. It can also be phrased by "Nene will die by the end of this year" which is wrong. So, Nene has more than half a year to live from the time he voiced that out.
Next, we will say it between "more that half a year" and "less than a complete year", she has more than 6 months left to live. How many exactly? Here is the catch.
Assuming from having her wearing her school uniform when dead (that arc was a bit wacky on the clothes change thing, Kou did, the other students didn't, but I assume Nene's case is just the same as Kou's, a girl involved with the yorishiros, supernaturals, must be in the school when her time comes, right? After all, the action is in there.) So... that also adds to the count, she will die past April of the next year. How would that make it... half a year + 4 more months... we have around 10 months. Less than a year. Scary.
****
So, thinking of what we have now... it's only been roughly 3 months since Hanako said that. Nene still has more time to enjoy living.
Uh, not me wanting to just have hope she still has time left to count.
****
Tumblr media
Summer vegetables... next year...
Having this among her other wishes that seem impossible to happen with the limit set on her life span... makes me feel it's just as impossible. She... won't live to see summer next year?
The rest of this year... up until before summer next year...
June/July - June/July... A year. Less than a year June/July- early June/May/April???
Can it take place in May? Bad news for Hanako. What a cool 1 year of blending into eachother's worlds anniversary.
Commenting on his words of "it's not because she summoned me she became fated with death, no.. that was decided for her from the very start. She managed to summon me because she is near to the far shore, near to her death."
I do wonder if this "I'm not the reason" still holds up.
She'll die once all 7 yorishiros are destroyed, who is the one to make her destroy No.2's? then proceed with a plan to take them down one by one? It's Hanako, together with Tsukasa and that girl with the help of her dog who set the stage for Nene to walk into her grave with her own.. "hands".
So, no. I don't agree with you. Sorry.
Minor factors:
Have to say, some people willingly also led Nene to her death without knowing/meaning to/ maybe knowing?
No.2 ... not knowing obviously. She shouted "don't" when she destroyed hers. But, having her going with making Misaki thing and not stopping, she led Nene to destroy hers to put a stop to her actions.
No. 5 ... I do wonder where he stands. By the time he was asked to hand over his yorishiro, did he know about the truth? Or only did later on after looking into her book (ch 28?) Either way, he was a factor.
No.4 ... this one has to be the most ironic, she talks with her about how she intends to escape death, then hands her the yorishiro to destroy right after.
No. 6 ... same works for him, even though he was following "his duty" then "what he wants" as I get it.
Same can go for the rest.
Hmm....
****
Putting an end to all this since my head can't take it anymore...
I'll say perhaps this death thingy will happen during May or early June.
May has a nice ring to it, I'm so sorry, Hanako...
It's kinda crazy when I think of it the way of:
Tsukasa "willingly" sacrificed himself on their 4th birthday/ a thing to come one time each year like an anniversary.
Nene, a kannagi... his kannagi... meets her death the day of thier "contract" anniversary. It's like a birthday for them both in a way, isn't it?
This boy... if that was the case... then ouch.
Thinking about Nene's death a little… is it so soon?
Warning: you might end up 😵‍💫 after you click "keep reading". If you want to anyway, then I hope you'll enjoy. ^^
Let's have some fun!
Following the only small details we have, we got from Hanako back in the keepers arc 1- she is going to die within the next year.
Tumblr media
And later on that girl said 2- Nene's death is the result of all 7 yorishiros getting destroyed.
Linking these 2 together... can we say All 7 yorishiors will also be successfully destroyed within the next year?
We're sure that day Hanako gave us this information comes after April depending on the fact: First term of school year in Japan starts in early April and ends in late July, around July 20th. So we're in between these 2 back there. More around June/early July later on around ch 37/38, I think.
The first term ends around July 20th, and that must be around the time Nene came to Hanako and Kou speaking of the "First term- Final exams" past p.p arc, we had the school summer vacation around July 15th depending on the Urabon being brought up to be close to happen, that came to an end by ch 101 and we're back to the Second term that starts by early September.
Tumblr media
Then...
Tumblr media
Ch 102.
Ch 104- Ch 110, Festival day.
Alright, so by then we're almost by the end of September.
Taking Hanako's words again, "she'll die within the next year".
If we assumed the worst-case scenario, Nene is going to die by the very start of the next year, that should give her at least 3 more months to live. If we said she has a year to live from the time Hanako voiced his words, so we can say she will die around June/early July? If we assumed it's by her 1 year in contract with Hanako anniversary, worst case it will be during May, since she said she confessed to that first crush of hers 1 month before meeting Hanako. If we said it was during April (taking the wrost case), then she met Hanako somewhere during May.
So, in conclusion... we can look out for January next year, then May, June/early July of that said year. If we were hopeful, her death will take place later on that year.
Ahem, after all that... as mentioned above, worst case is she dies by January. But, at least while the story is still in September, that means she still have 3 months to live freely! A WIN.
And, it also means... the last 3 yorishiros will take their sweet time to get destroyed. 3 months or even more.~ Awww, bad news for someone.
Well, what I'm questioning now is...
This someone is after No.1 and No.3 together right now, No.7's feels to be following closely. Hmm... but given Nene's 3 months... the last one won't fall until at least the start of the new year.
Interesting.
Makes me wonder how the events of this arc would unfold, following that pattern.
Have to point out, all we reached to with Nene at least having at least 3 months to enjoy living is completely based on Hanako's comment about her life situation. If he was 100% sure of what he said, then that should be one of the cases for her expected "near" death, if he was wrong... then anything can happen and things can be over really soon.
So, we're left with... let's wait and see!
****
Side note:
Just adding this here really fast: X
And, thinking of Nene dying while wearing her school uniform, so it means she is back to school once more the "next year", so can we say again, her death, hopefully, is to claim her past April? ... gets us back to May, June/realy July or... later on that year.
Hmm… the future is up to many possibilities.

Ageswap Leo and Yoshi's relationship drives me a insane. Putting this under a readmore cause it's quite long. Some spoilers for ageswap below:
Just, there's so much love there. Leo loves the bones of that kid and would do whatever he had to in order to keep his nephew safe. He'd die if it meant Yoshi had the chance to live. (Yoshi does not want his uncle to sacrifice himself. He'd actually never forgive Leo if he died for him - he wants his uncle to live.)
But that doesn't mean as!Leo didn't mess up and that he didn't hurt Yoshi without meaning to.
From being small, Yoshi knew that he was Leo's heir. It's hard growing up in a warzone knowing that if the slightest thing goes wrong you'll lose one of your parents and suddenly all their responsibility will be left to you (Raph, Donnie and Mikey wouldn't just dump all Leo's baggage on Yoshi, but being the head of the Hamato Clan did not appeal to this kid when he was 8.) That's so much responsibility, and if it's hard for a turtle teen, it's just as hard for a rat teen.
And Leo tries to prepare Yoshi as best he can for the day he takes over. Leo hopes that'll be a long, long time in the future, but there at war and stuff happens. So Yoshi gets extra training, whilst his sisters play and watch tv, he sits with Leo and goes over strategy. There are chess games, which Yoshi enjoyed a lot less when he realised what it was training him for. Leo thought it'd be a nice, child friendly way to introduce Yoshi to important concepts. He won't throw his nephew in at the deep end.
(He's good at chess, and learns to quickly think he way through sticky situations. But he never wants to have to think of Mayday, June or Shadow as being pawns or bishops. They're his sisters. He can't help but wonder if it's possible to change the game.)
He can't mess up. He has to be perfect. Has to know all the rules, how to break them, how to shift the fight into his favour, to know what to lose a battle so he can win the war.
(It's so much.)
(It's too much.)
(Not his sisters. Not his uncles or aunt. Not their friends.)
(Please please not his family.)
Yoshi pours all his free time into training. Leo is both proud and relieved to see Yoshi is a fast learner. Sometimes the turtle will joke to his brothers, April or Casey that they can hardly keep up with him. Lessons that were supposed be last a month are covered in a week. He thinks if they train Yoshi well enough, he'll be able to weather whatever storm the universe throws at him.
(Yoshi's so gifted! He might be a progidy! He'll be safer!)
(He has nothing else.)
(He has to keep them all safe. He's already lost his mother and brother.)
(Not his family, not his family, please not his family.)
There's meditation too. He struggles with that at first - there's so much to think about, so much responsibility and he's still a child - but it's nice to have some quiet time, where he can let go and exist in the space between his thoughts.
And the visions start early. Nightmares, mostly. No one realises what they are until the end of the ageswap space arc, when Raph flips through their then 4 year old nephew's drawing and finds horrible monsters on every page. The drawings a crude, he's only a small child, but Raph recognises the shark, the scorpians, the ice dragons. Yoshi hadn't gone to space with his aunt and uncles. The child has a habit of dating his drawings, and each is from before they got back.
(The one that disturbs Raph the most is all metal and glowing red eyes. At first he thought it might be Tokka, but no, that's not right.)
(The red eyed, armoured monster keeps appearing in Yoshi's worst nightmares.)
Leo can't help Yoshi here. He's trained all his life for a similar sensitivity. Mikey and April both have it, and are both more skilled with it, so they take over Yoshi's training in this department. But he's always open to Yoshi talking to him about it!
(His uncle has so much going on already. Yoshi doesn't want to bother him with imaginary monsters. And as he gets older, he thinks he's too older to tell his family about nightmares anyway.)
And as the war with the Kraang continues to ramp up, more responsibility is given to him. He helps June look after their sisters.
(He's the third child, but he's also their future clan leader, so he feels he has to).
Yoshi even starts helping Shadow with her training, which takes some of the load of his uncles. Leo is so proud of his nephew, barely 12 and already training his own student.
(He's parenting his 6 year old sister. He won't complain. Shadow deserves a proper childhood).
Leo loves Yoshi and does everything he can to prepare him. Leo tried so hard.
And Yoshi adores his uncle! Won't hear a word against him.
But there's also momumental expectations, and resentment, and Yoshi feeling that his childhood was forfeit for his sisters, and knowing his uncle did not know what he was doing with him, and not knowing how to say he needs help and he's scared, so scared.
(The older Yoshi gets, the more the red eyed monster appears in his dreams. And when he's 14, he starts dreaming of fire and a woman screaming and someone dressed in amour that imitates the red eyed monster's. He wakes from each dream clutching his abdomen.)
They love each other, but that doesn't mean mistakes weren't made
But they love each other, so they're willing to work together to put the broken peices back together again

This Week in BL
March 2021 Part 4
Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs.
This is a LONG ONE, it’s been A WEEK everyone.
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Thai
Lovely Writer Ep 5 - a little slow this week, but at least Gene finally flirted back, and very cute flirting it was, too. Also we got Aey’s motivation, background, and love interest. Thank goodness for that.
Brothers Ep 8 - still pants, what can I say? Clearly I am a BL masochist. Very embarrassing for everyone concerned.
1000 Stars Ep 9 - the conflict over Tian’s father was REALLY well done. The plot of this drama is excellent, the leads are great together, and yes I totally cried. What, you didn’t?
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
Word of Honor (China) Ep 16-18 - big battle fighty fighty stabby stabby. Ep 17 switches to “this drama isn’t big enough for two chaotic-neutral godlings!” So what do they do? Drink together and bicker... A LOT. Then in Ep 18 we all get the dubious joy of really freaky puppets. (I HATE puppets.) Also how is China letting this be so SO VERY VERY GAY?  Also, I wanna walk through the forest wearing a smanshy purple robe and waving a big fuck-off white fan around simply because I’m a pretentious fuss monger. And frankly, I feel like this is an achievable life goal for me.
We Best Love 2 (Taiwan) Ep 4 - not gonna lie, this is looking to be one of my top 3 BLs of 2021. It’s SO GOOD. Big bonus to this ep for treating stalker behavior like the mental illness it is and not as some dumb representation of enduring love.
The Most Peaceful Place is My Place (Vietnam) Ep 1 - finally dropped (find it under NƠI BÌNH YÊN NHẤT LÀ VỀ BÊN EM on O2′s channel). It’s got actors already comfortable with BL and looks pretty good so far. An angry tsundere uke reunited with his ex, a stoic chef, giving us lots of snap, crackle, and pop out the gate.
Dear Uranus (Taiwan GL) Ep 2 - I want to love it, but it is just moving too fast. There’s not enough character dev and then they’re throwing flashbacks in? It feels like a treatment rather than a show, and a rushed treatment at that. Bummer.
HIStory 4: Close To You (Taiwan) Ep 2 (AKA Ep 3-4) - let the cheesy popcorn continue! Idiot remains an idiot; ingenue remains an ice queen; nice gay guy remains nice and gay; obsessive stalker brother is getting ever more whackadoddle. Of course these last two have the best chemistry. (It’s caregiver codependency and the salvation trope. We got us a Leo/Fiat situation going on.) Plus lots of classic BL tropes because OF COURSE there are lots of tropes.
Occasionally, I am tempted to argue that shows like H4 or Cherry Magic or Ossan’s Love aren’t technically BL because of the office setting and age of the protags - but then they all behave like high school students anyway, so *shrug*
Tumblr media
Stand Alones
Cute little Taiwanese micro BL Friend or Lover dropped, about bisexual realization within a friendship group. Normally these are too short for me, but this one did pretty good with its 15 minutes of charm, plus it’s abad boy + shy softy pairing.
Tumblr media
Breaking News - Thai BL
Fish Upon the Sky released its actual trailer. The upside-down kiss is gone, which makes everyone sad, and it seems far less rivals to lovers than the first iteration, which makes ME sad. But it still looks good and a more classic BL than GMMTV has given us in a while. New trailer focused more on the makeover trope and they’ve upped Mix’s role (the object of everyone’s affection) now that he’s proved himself. (Or they are using him more to carry the trailer since he has a fan base form 1k*). Starts April 9 on GMMTV in 1K*’s time slot, probably with a 10 ep run.
2gether the movie is apparently coming April 22 to Thai theaters. F4 Thailand must be having issues or GMMTV just wants to milk the BrightWin cash cow. It’s rumored to be a combination of 2gehter + Still 2gether with some extra scenes and ending. Also, one assumes a lot will be cut out, if it’s movie length.
Call It What You Want released its updated trailer. If anything, it looks more scary than before. What are we in for? April 9th.
Nitiman got a release date, May 7 on One31.
I Told Sunset About You 2 got an updated release date of May 27 on LineTV.
Second Chance the series is coming to LineTV on March 29. I don’t know much about this one. Tons of familiar faces (mostly TharnType side dishes) and some nice looking new talent but a dearth of eng subs. I think it may take on Brothers’ time slot. Line did eng subs for Brothers so maybe they will do 2nd Chance too?
Close Friend the series is coming April 22. This is a combination of 6 couples with 6 story arcs as music videos (maybe)? It’s an epic fan service with familiar faces like OhmFluke (UWMA), MaxNat (LBC also in Y-Destiny), YoonLay (YYY also in Y-Destiny), KimCop (GenY), and JaFirst (TT2).
Y-Destiny starts March 30, and has starting dropping couple’s trailers. I’m still suspicious given the director but it seems like there is plot (or plots) and a theme. Looks to be a series of 7 single ep vignettes (amended, see comments, might be 2 eps each for 14 eps total), different couple each time, some with supernatural elements, all with decent chemistry and acting chops.
Sun MaxNat’s tutor/student arc
Mon jaded rich kid meets poor innocent
Tues sports romance enemies to lovers
Weds the messy realistic actual dating one
Thurs hot ghost boyfriend (sad)
Fri YoonLayPerth coping with loss and finding new love (sad). This one will all rest on Lay's acting so we know it’s in safe hands. Our boy is going to KILL it.
Sat time-slip memory loss reunion romance
I’m thinking we can’t expect any of these to end happy or be classic BL. They’re gonna be more slice of life-ish.
Tumblr media
Gossip - BL Outside of Thailand
Scholar Ryu’s Wedding Ceremony AKA Nobleman Ryu’s Wedding (Korean historical BL) got a legit teaser (eng sub here). @curriculumvtae reports that it’s releasing April 15th on WeTV (Philippines & Thailand) and Idol Romance (South Korea), while Will of Thai Bl says it’ll be on Viki too. It’s a short run of 8 ep built on a fake relationship trope (arranged marriage variant):
Ryu Ho Seon’s (Kang In Soo from You Wish) arranged marriage turns out to be with his expected bride’s brother, Choi Ki Wan (Lee Se Jin from Mr Heart). Ryu tries to undo the marriage, but his ill mother opposes this saying the scandal would be too much. Meanwhile, Kim Tae Hyeong (Jang Eui Soo from Where Your Eyes Linger), a senior at Ryu’s school, comes to congratulate him and falls in love with Choi. Then one day, the original bride disappears.
Okay it seems a bit twisty turny for ONLY 8 EPS, but oh my goodness how excited are we? Our first intentional historical BL out of Korea!
Tumblr media
We already knew Hong Kong was doing a remake of Japan’s Ossan’s Love under the same name (not my favorite Japanese BL but so very popular) but it’s now reported to be coming to Viu in June. Who knows how the CFA will take it. Depends on whether Hong Kong bows before the NO GAY KISSES regs or if they are going to use this as a political nose thumb... things could get cray with this puppy (the original has several kisses and s shower scene). Are we back in Addicted territory only with added comedy and civil unrest?
Speaking of Japan, Absolute BL (AKA Zettai BL ni Naru Sekai vs Zettai BL ni Naritakunai Otoko) dropped sooner than anyone thought, March 27. But being Japanese who knows how/when/if we get subs. Protag finds himself trapped in a world of BL, but being straight he fights against any hot guy that draws near, but the whole world (literally) is conspiring against him. It’s a parody adapted from a yoai.
What with Absolute BL from Japan plus Lovely Writer and Call it What You Want from Thailand, is 2021 the year of BL being ultra self referential? Sure feels like it.
Tumblr media
In Case You Missed It
Faded a gay micro film from Taiwan from 2017 deals with parental acceptance and serves up a ton of BL tropes (piggyback, forehead kiss, etc). I’m pretty sure this was a propaganda piece for legalization of gay marriage, and it’s an interesting nugget of BL history as a result. Yes, it ends happy. It’s cute.
Next Week Looks Like This:
Some shows may be listed a day later than actual air date for accessibility reasons.
Tumblr media
Upcoming 2021 BL master post here.
Links to watch are provided when possible, ask in a comment if I missed something.
Man there’s a lot going on right now! Spring has sprung... I suppose.
Tumblr media
P.S. I cannot believe I missed Absolute BL as a blog name. Numbnuts = me.

Bonus:
Tumblr media
Based off the fact Gojo canonically bought a ¥250000 (before tax) shirt.
____
Part 1 || Part 2 (you are here) || Extras (not ready yet deepest apologies) ||
Click on the images for crispy lines and legible text.
The main comic is split into two posts because the images were too big to fit into one! I have some extra stuff I am wanting to make, but they're not finished enough for human viewing. I've got many theories on how the siblings went from “If I go, will Tsumiki be happy? My answer depends on that.” TO “Don’t act like you’re my guardian. You gross me out.” (for reasons aside from the usual middle school phase of sibling conflict) AND I TRIED INJECTING THEM INTO THIS COMIC (which originally had a count of 9 pages but now is 13 pages + bonus content) BUT THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A JOLLY ONE ABOUT MEGUMI AND TSUMIKI’S ATTEMPTS TO ENTERTAIN THEMSELVES WITHOUT ELECTRICITY. SO NO PAIN
More ranting about the comic below the cut. Spoilers for the manga!!!
This comic was stuck in my head for a while because when I got to c138 I was like OH MY GOD TSUMIKI, Gege why, and I love sibling shenanigans. There’s not much about Tsumiki and her personality just yet (she’s kind, but kind isn’t a personality), but there’s this panel here from chapter 59 that for this comic, I based her entirely on:
Tumblr media
She just seems very fun.
Some context info for the comic:
This comic takes place a year an a half after the Hidden Inventory arc and 4 months after Gojo meets Megumi.
(random note: Megumi's age is a bit of a misnomer for me, because canon says Gojo met Megumi in his first year of elementary school in 2007. The events of the manga take place in 2018, 11 years later, when Fushiguro is 15. I'm a bit confused here because children in Japan start elementary school at age 6 (turning 7 by the time they move on to second grade in April), so Megumi should've been 6 years old when he met Gojo. In 2007 though, he should've been 4 turning 5 if he's only 15 (turning 16) in 2018. Did I misread something? For the purposes of this comic, Megumi is 7 and Tsumiki is turning 8).
In this comic, it takes a while for Gojo to gain custody of Megumi and Tsumiki due to the fact that he's still a minor (and has a few more hoops his influence has to jump through) and that he has to very carefully wheedle Megumi out of the Zen'in family's clutches. If he does it too persistently, the Zen'ins would figure out something's up and be more resistant, if not reluctant, to let him go without upping his price. Megumi's Cursed Technique is manifesting, but I think Gojo figured it out only because of his Six-Eyes. Gojo told Megumi to do his best to hide his wakening abilities (which Megumi took as being even less emotive than usual, much to Tsumiki's dismay). If the Zen'ins ever found out he had the Ten Shadows technique, Megumi's fate would've been sealed, and Gojo would have had no way of getting him out. Luckily, the clan's disdain for Toji clouds their judgement of Megumi. Megumi's also born in late December, so for the clan members who don't think he'd amount to much, this detail is easily forgotten, and when Megumi's six years old and nearing his 7th birthday, the clan members would assume he's already seven and passed the 'age limit' to manifest an inherited cursed technique. Gojo coming back to the apartment in 2008 after Megumi's 7th birthday suggests that he was successful in gaining custody of Megumi.
In the last panel of the main comic, you see there's a divine doggo on the roof top. Megumi accidentally summoned a divine dog during the spirited saga of Usa-Chan-Man, but luckily Gojo sensed it and subdued it, nullifying the exorcism ritual.
Speaking of Usa-Chan-Man, she is 1000% based on Lovely Usa-Chan Man from Oresama Teacher (same author as Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun). She's amazing. If you're interested, the manga's hilarious (even if Student-Teacher ain't your cup of tea, be rest assured----this manga is 90% humour, 8% drama, and 2% romance).
Some inaccuracies in this comic I am now aware of; please be gentle with judgement:
- The Fushiguro apartment is not a corner apartment, I know!! I just- I just didn't know okay, and I was committed to having a shot of Gojo chilling on the ledge of the roof
Tumblr media
- SAILOR MOON STOPPED AIRING IN JAPAN IN 1997. I DIDN'T KNOW THIS. I personally watched Sailor Moon on VHS tapes. I just thought Sailor Moon would be a show that could be rerun 1203 times and people would be ok with it. I am 100% guessing that anime airs on Sundays at 9PM. I didn't research this at all. I tried to envision leaving out the Sailor Moon part, but there went my Usagi joke and that joke was originally supposed to end the comic at 9 pages. I eventually ended the comic a different way, but Usagi had to be there to create the scene transition to the ending. Just.. Sshh..
- What bills and account books look like in Japan. Yeah, I have no idea. Especially what they looked like back in 2008!! Also, how much utilities costed in Tokyo 2008.. I just went with conservative prices typical of modern day Hokkaido in the winter.
- What the weather was like in January 2008. Was it cold enough that kids were wearing winter jackets? I tried googling historical weather data, but I got nothing (it was just like 10 minutes of googling though, so I wasn't trying that hard). In Tokyo though, January is generally considered the coldest month of the year, so I hoped for the best!
- Candles are not strong enough to cast sharp enough shadows for shadow puppetry. Y...yes... But you see, this candle is really, really big and has a very large wick.
I am done. This is all for now. Thank you for reading, if you've read up till this point!!! Happy Jujutsu Friday and See y'all crying on Jujutsu Sunday.

Trying to be better about responding to mentions/tags! So here we go!
rules: share five of your own fanworks (fic, art, etc.). then, tag five more people to share the things they’ve made.
1. Something you absolutely adore:
'Til Winter’s End: I had been feeling stalled on my main series that took place over the course of the DAI timeline, so I allowed myself to change gears to this and it reawakened my enthusiasm for writing. From the very first to the very last chapter, this was a joy to write, and I am so pleased that I was able to stick it out so that I can now present it as a standalone and complete work. Yes, it’s only the first arc in an ongoing series, but it can also be read just on its own. I absolutely adore writing Theresa and Cullen as an established couple, navigating their lives after the Inquisition together.
2. Something that was challenging to create:
Lead Her Through the Darkness: This was my first attempt writing someone else’s OC for a gift fic exchange, and holy crap was I nervous!!! I fretted over this story and was so stressed the whole time I was writing it, wondering whether it would be good enough, whether the receiver would like it, whether I was representing their OC accurately and respectfully... I am so incredibly proud of this fic, and so beyond pleased at how well it was received and embraced. It remains one of my favorite things I’ve written.
3. Something that makes you laugh or smile:
Fiercely Perish: Started as a crackfic idea that spiraled until I spilled out an entire story about it. Still technically a crackfic I suppose, but also just a helluva fun story. It’s AdoriBull, but it’s also Die Hard, but it’s set in Thedas, and also an April Fool’s fic. If you like action/comedy, or if you like Die Hard, please give this a read! It was probably the most fun I’ve had writing any story lol.
4. Something that surprised you (how it turned out, how others liked it, etc.):
Blood in my mouth, and the bitterness in goodbye: Not necessarily surprising, but more of a revelation. This story was a beautiful window into Leliana’s POV for me, and I feel like every draft gave me more epiphanies about her character. It’s tragic, but it’s hopeful. Just like she is.
5. Something you want other people to see:
Swept Away: I forget when I first got the idea for this pairing, but the instant I realized that Josephine and Isabela would be the ultimate power couple and that they’d never actually met in the DA-verse, I set out to write this story. I’m finally publishing it after years of work, and I am so unbelievably excited for others to read it! This has definitely been a labor of love, and I adore these two as a couple. They’re a match - opposite sides of the same coin. I love them.
Thanks for the tag @theluckywizard! I’m tagging @exalted-dawn-drabbles, @bluewren, and @dalishkadan. Sorry if anyone got double-tagged!
Self-Recommendation Tag Game
rules: share five of your own fanworks (fic, art, etc.). then, tag five more people to share the things they've made.
Thank you for the tag @nirikeehan <3
1. Something you absolutely adore: The Boy Who Talked too Much was my first attempt at writing Alistair and gosh, I just LOVE writing that man. His brain may be my brain? I had such a great time being in his head and getting into his silliness and nervousness and the thinking and talking too much. It is a 'first kiss/first sexual encounters' fic, so definitely NSFW, but it's fundamentally just sweet reading along as bold Elissa melt Alistair's precious brain. WC: 2,373 Rating: Explicit (high school level smut antics) Ships: Alistair x Elissa
2. Something that was challenging to create: Pull Me from the Dark is a character study I wrote for Hawke from his POV when I was still getting to know him. I really spent the time to get his vibe right. I wanted to plumb the depths so to speak. He's a really goofy, silly guy and it would be easy for him to become a caricature so this was an early attempt at giving him some real depth and I'm still so proud of it. WC: 2107 Rating: Mature (oblique reference to sex, Varghest gore) Ships: Rose Trevelyan x Garrett Hawke
3. Something that makes you laugh or smile:
That would be Good Old Garbolg which I wrote in response to a Bottle of Thedas prompt for Garbolg's Backcountry Reserve. It's my OC's Hawke and Rose being absolutely silly goobers on an adventure to taste the mystery booze in a bottle they found in the Fallow Mire. WC: 1462 Rating: Explicit but probably more like Mature tbh (I err on the side of caution) Ships: Rose Trevelyan x Garrett Hawke 4. Something that surprised you (how it turned out, how others liked it, etc.):
The Assassin's Masque (or High Falutin Hawke and his Foxy Boss Try Subterfuge at Halamshiral) surprised me by how much I absolutely ADORED having Hawke at the Winter Palace as an Inquisition Agent. So much that I threw away about 70k words of my long fic to make it happen for real. It is the definition of shenanigans. Hawke is there to be a distraction and to help with the collection of information and, you know, breaking and entering as the case may be. He's also able to provide Inquisitor Rose with some sexy cover. ;) WC: 3745 Rating: Teen for some general sauciness Ships: Rose Trevelyan x Garrett Hawke
5. Something you want other people to see:
Well Did You Miss Me? is my flangst with a side of angst fic that has spawned an entire long fic. Hawke has been trapped in the Fade for over a year and Rose has learned to have a recurring dream to block out the nightmares of him staying there. Hawke breaks into her dream from the Fade to make contact with her. I poured my soul into this one. My blorbos deserve to be happy. WC: 5062 Rating: Explicit (sex) Ships: Rose Trevelyan x Garrett Hawke (sensing a theme here? lmao)
Tagging @rakshadow, @breninarthur, @agentkatie, @warpedlegacy, @kiastirling-fanfic, @crackinglamb, @about2dance and anyone else who wants to participate <3

so sorry if this exists and i just cant find it, but might you have a post or something similar where you list the specific songs you associate with each of the songs in your 3rd life playlist? i am listening to it right now and quite adore analyzing it, but i am curious about a fair few of the songs and what lens you viewed them with. you listed a couple on the playlist post reblogs, but i am not sure about the others.
ayy sorry this is a late reply, i kinda forgot to get around to it :P i know i talked about them somewhere but i’ll do a quick analysis. with some lazier than others. this got long lmao.
do it all the time - idkhow
where the playlist name comes from! now we're so young / but we're probably gonna die. it’s the vibes of getting stuck in a game you don’t want to play but embracing it anyway, and the selling lies/trust fund lines tie into the scamming themes
great vacation - dirt poor robins
this song is along the lines of a telling of the rapture. i associate with the idea of the 3L cast being taken from their home servers into a new world.
the other side - the greatest showmen
desert duo. need i elaborate
six feet - patent pending
a very 3L/LL song. ain't nobody coming when you make the call, cause every man's gunning for the first to fall // so it's left, right, left, down, the trail of the dead, and only six feet between me and catching my breath, only six feet between me and getting some rest. basically a hardcore minecraft song.
people i don’t like - upsahl
kinda associate this one with scott or etho specifically? but it’s the idea of disliking the players around you, ‘i’m surrounded by idiots who don’t know how to survive.’
it’s tough to be a god - the road to el dorado
early session renchanting. ‘nuf said
i can’t decide - the scissor sisters
your classic villain song. pick your fancy of who you like it to fit
the fine print - the stupendium
this is a scar song.
bang! - ajr
session 4 lmao
nicknackatory - mr b
early renchanting, again
crazy=genius - patd
desert duo
revolution - queenpb
ren song ren song ren song. start a revolution and watch your body decay from head to toe / start a revolution, and laugh as you think that you have control. the arc of the red king’s fall into blood lust.
anti-hero - sekai no owari
an etho song, imo
cops and robbers - the hooisers
blame simon, 'cause he said, you've got two lives down and one life left / blame simon, 'cause he said, you could think better with a hole in your head
wolf in sheep’s clothing - set it off
joel song!
the ballad of sara berry - 35MM
scar as sara and ren as julie, or swapped, depending on who you wanna view as the villain in the series (these two are morally gray parallels, which is the point of them swapping places depending on perspective)
brutus - the buttress
power hungry red lives.
the wolf - siames
red life vibes, specifically ren or joel for obvious reasons
misery fell - tally hall
the denial of early game, where it was supposed to be cooperative, and their was still hope they’d survive...
business man - mother mother
scar, again. he’s the most common character across POVs, what do you want from me? :P
come along - cosmo sheldrake
mysterious new world with a magical energy that comes with it of the lives system and blood lust vibes
off with his head - jack conte
ren, ofc
curtain fall - area 11
A11 PROPAGANDA!!! there are some ways to win, the primal games we’re in // cling to me and my scars that prove it all, don’t let the curtain fall
those who carried on - ghost
a 3L into LL song. the players are unique entities that will continue to be reawakened to play the game again.
i’m gonna win - rob cantor
fun fact, i said this would be a grian song if he ended up winning long before the finale. i was very right. i'll be bloody and bruised, i'll be breaking my bones /  i'll be paying my dues, i'll be laughing alone
send them off! - bastille
ren and martyn because i love crying
terrible things - april smith
about the unreliable narrator phenomenon in the series.
from the ground up - laura shigihara
if you watch the music video for this song, it’s about a couple playing in a hardcore minecraft world, living for literal centuries in it, and choosing to play again once they die. still gives me chills.
viva la vida - coldplay
damn i wish fallen kingdom was on spotify, anyways, ren
solider poet king - the oh hellos
a classic. you know the deal
two birds - regina spektor
red/green duos
skulls - bastille
when our lives are over and all that remains, are our skulls and bones, let's take it to the grave / and hold me in your arms, hold me in your arms, i'll be buried here with you / and I'll hold in these hands, all that remains
no children - the mountain goats
again, another one i don’t feel i need to explain.

So I’m still toying around with my ideal version of a fourth season of DuckTales.
Say Webby’s origins were saved for that fourth season. Say that she was a clone of Beakley, or Pepper’s lost daughter, rather than Scrooge’s clone because either of those personally make more sense to me than what we got.
Say that Daisy’s nieces get to be their own characters rather than clones of Webby, and by extension clones of Scrooge.
Here’s what I’ve got so far.
The way I saw it working was like the lyrics in the theme song.
Season 1 was “Solve a Mystery” – Dewey finding the truth about the boys’ mother; running parallel with Magica’s return.
Season 2 was “Rewrite History” – Louie learning how to be successful; running parallel with the invasion from the moon.
Season 3 was “Danger Lurks Behind You” – Huey searching for the Missing Mysteries; running parallel with FOWL’s attack.
Season 4 would have been “There’s a Stranger Out to Find You” – Webby learning her origins; running parallel with the season villain’s plot.
Episodes in the season would include the ones I’ve already suggested in previous posts:
“The Second Adventure!” – The episode where Scrooge babysits the OG quartet of Donald, Della, Gladstone, and Fethry all at once.
“Gosalyn’s New Best Friend!” – Honker’s introduction episode.
“Fethry the Scientist!” – Fethry episode continuing from “The Depths of Cousin Fethry!” based on his desire to science, likely marine biology.
“The Ghoul and the Hero!” – Morgana’s introduction episode.
“Percival Peppington and the Pep Factory!” – Louie gets an exclusive visit to his favorite soda’s factory, and befriends the company’s heir, Percival Peppington’s nephew.
Dickie Duck episode – leave ambiguous if Dickie is Scrooge’s blood granddaughter or not.
Poe episode – reunite Magica with her brother, because if Donald and Della get each other back, it’s only fair in a show about family. Credit to @maeo-png for reminding me.
McQuack family episode – reveal reboot Launchpad’s family. Credit to @the-flying-mcquacks for reminding me.
The above suggestions would all definitely be included. The below suggestions would be maybes.
Djinn episode – he was supposed to do something according to s3 poster.
Bubba and Tootsie return episode – they were supposed to come back for something according to the s3 poster. Maybe an extended McDuck family episode including Hortense and other family members.
Sabrewing family episode – explore Lena and Violet’s sister dynamic plus giving dads’ personalities.
Fenton episode – reveal his father. Fenton was said to be the result of an inventor and an officer together, and since M’ma is an officer, he would be an inventor.
Mark Beaks comeback episode – Didn’t like how he was reduced to a nobody in “Beaks in the Shell!”. He’s smarter than Glomgold, but yet he lost his company while Glomgold didn’t? Let him gain his spot as a rich villain back, and maybe tie in his ‘Coach Dad’ since we saw his mother.
Daisy and nieces episode – allow April, May, and June to be their own characters and actually related to Daisy rather than clones and blood of the McDuck clan.
And an episode or two showcasing what happened to the fractured remains of FOWL’s board - Steelbeak, Phantom Blot and Pepper, Rockerduck, see where they ended up.
The rest would be dedicated to the season’s villain arc. Whether that’s Negaduck or Merlock, the two most popular guesses, or someone else. I’m leaning towards Negaduck because the crew really wanted to do something with him and do the character justice. Perhaps he would form the 2017 version of the Fearsome Five, the same way they did with Darkwing Duck, Gosalyn, and Bulba. I was disappointed when the Fearsome Five in “Let’s Get Dangerous!” were sent back to their reality, but I realized this could be to let the reboot versions have their origin stories. This arc would run parallel with Webby learning her origins, ending with what started the series- a family mystery.
Gizmoduck, Darkwing, and Morgana would found the reboot Justice Ducks, Storkules could probably serve as a replacement for Stegomutt, and maybe Penumbra for the last one.
Those are my thoughts on an ideal season 4, before the series finale came in and pulled those twists.

To Those Who Say “I’m not gonna catch up on One Piece until it’s finished. Why would I watch/read 1000+ episodes/chapters when I don’t even get to know how the story ends?”
Now for the past few years, when I came across somebody who said this, my rebute would be something like “Well the series is great already. It doesn’t really matter if I don’t know how it ends, because the journey itself is enjoyable.” or “Man if that’s your excuse, who you gonna explain why you read/watch stuff like Berserk, Hunter X Hunter, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and My Hero Academia? Newsflash, they aren’t done yet.” But it came across my mind that I can now apply a completely different approach:
“If you start watching/reading at this pace right now, it will be over by the time you catch up.”
If you’re a fan of the series, you’ll know that for awhile now Oda has been saying that he plans to end the series in just 5-4 years. Now he’s made lots of claims in the past that turned out to be ridiculous. However, many One Piece researchers have compiled his claims and found out that they only get more accurate as time goes on, with the most ridiculous claims being found to be myths. And with the most recent claims of ending the series in less than 5 years, even his editors who are usually skeptical have started to trust that he can do this. After all, he has officially set there to be only one more saga (which isn’t necessarily one arc, but it’s either going to be 1-2 major arcs or an anthology of 5-6 shorter arcs). And now that we can trust this claim, we can essentially extrapolate how many chapters/episodes are left and what pace we have to binge to catch up at just the right time.
If you plan to read the manga (black and white):
The manga in black in white is a perfectly fine way to enjoy One Piece. It’s what Oda draws, it’s how he intends it to be viewed, and best of all, it will be the first version of publication to finish.
Out of the 1223 weeks since the first chapter published in July 19, 1997, 1000 chapters have published, meaning on average he publishes 42 chapters per year, or in other words, there are only 10 hiatuses per year (including holidays where WSJ does not publish). Now if I wanted to be more accurate, I’d only look at the chapters published this year, to exclude outliers like how he had no hiatuses for the first 200 chapters, or how he had a 4-week hiatus during the timeskip, but 2020 has been a bit crazy, so we’re not doing that for this or any of the others.
Going off of this, the final chapter would be chapter 1212 in December 28, 2025 (yes, the 28th would be a Sunday again.) So here’s how you’d calculate the pace in which you need to read One Piece, and really this is how we’ll calculate it for every version)
Tumblr media
Now I know math is boring, but the reason I’m showing this to you is because the amount of weeks until One Piece ends will vary based on when you start this binge. Chances are you aren’t going to start the day you see this post, and there’s an even greater chance you won’t see this post the day it’s posted. For every example I’m going to assume you started binging on December 28, 2020. Now let’s try to use it for this example.
Tumblr media
And there’s your answer, just read 4-5 chapters per week. By the end, One Piece should be nearly over or have very recently ended. To put that into a different perspective, you could purchase and read just two volumes per month and you’ll be at prime pace. Or you could read one chapter every day, but only on weekdays.  If you want to, you can see this calculation in action in graph form.
Tumblr media
While this is a very rudimentary graph, it’s a basic visualization of what we’re calculating here. We’re calculating what speed we need to binge to catch up at exactly the right moment. I say exact, but ultimately no one can predict how many chapters there will be exactly, nor how many hiatuses Oda will go on during it. It will be important, as you’re nearing the end, to find a spoiler-free way to keep up on how close One Piece is to ending. To know whether you ought to speed up or slow down.
If you plan to watch the anime (subtitled):
For years now people have hated on the anime “terrible animation!” “terrible pacing” but at the end of the day, it’s the more popular version. Or the more viewed version I should say. And personally, I think that once you acknowledge its problems and learn how to deal with them, it’s a perfectly fine experience. There’s enough good voice acting and enough good storytelling that you’re easily able to ignore the problems. Plus, the animation has substantially improved since Wano.
Now for this we’re going to have to change a lot of variables to get this right. We’re going to have to adjust when publication started, and recalculate when One Piece will end by looking at how slowly the anime adapts the manga, and how behind it is. The anime aired on October 20, 1999, and has aired 956 episodes since then. This means on average they air 44.9 episodes per year, meaning there is pretty much only 7 breaks the entire year. With these 956 episodes, they have adapted 955 chapters, making the pace almost exactly one chapter per episode. However this is really inaccurate, considering all the better-paced arcs earlier on in the story. Looking solely at episodes 2012 and onwards, the anime adapts at a pace of 0.65 chapters/episode.
Knowing that there are roughly 212 chapters left, and Toei adapts at 0.65 chapters per episode, we can assume that there are going to be roughly 324 episodes left. That sounds like too many, but keep in mind that there will be several, several instances where the manga will be on hiatus whereas the anime will keep on airing. Knowing there are approximately 324 episodes left, and that the anime only takes about 7 breaks a year, we can assume that it will take 7 years, or 374.49 weeks before the anime will end. So now we have the information we need to do the math again.
x = 1280/374.49
x = 3.417 episodes/week.
It may seem like a more relaxed binge, since you get a whole 2 extra years to binge, and you only have to do 3-4 episodes per week, compared to the 4-5 chapters. But keep in mind that these episodes are 24 minutes each. Still not at all bad, but you will be spending more time on it overall.
If you plan to watch One Pace:
One Pace is a fan project that edits the anime so that filler and padding is cut, other edits will be made to make the anime more manga-accurate, such as reorganizing scenes, or adding title cards where absent. Originally only used by a niche number of One Piece fans, One Pace has grown in popularity, and has tried to improve its quality to accommodate more fans, such as making their episodes Dual Audio (meaning you can switch between the dub and original Japanese audio tracks), and including Spanish subtitles.
You’d think we’d have to adjust for when One Pace began, how slowly One Pace catches up, and the works, but there’s not much to calculate. Fortunately for us, no matter how far behind One Pace is on editing the current arc, they always like to wrap things up just a few weeks within when an arc ended, if not the very same week. So really all we have to calculate is how many One Pace episodes there will be by the end of all this, so that we know how many you’ll need to watch per week.
Looking solely at what they’ve covered so far, One Pace has taken 573 episodes and condensed it down to 259 episodes. That’s a pace of 2.21 anime episodes/ paced episode. Earlier we calculated that there would be 324 episodes of the anime left, making for 1280 episodes total. This would mean that there would be around 578 One Pace episodes by the end. And One Pace would probably wrap up in, let’s say 376 weeks, because as I said, they’ll probably finish editing the final arc a week or two after the last episode airs.
x = 578/376
x = 1.53 episodes per week
Now that’s a relaxed pace. 1-2 episodes per week? That’s so slow, I’m not even sure if I’ll remember what I watched last week next time I watch some episodes. The only problem is some of the pre-timeskip still haven’t been edited. They’ll probably be done by the time they finish the final arc, but that’s not gonna work out fast enough. You’ll hit your first roadblock about 7 weeks in when you need to watch the Baratie arc and it’s not done. And don’t even get me started on how many arcs aren’t done in dub or Spanish sub yet. Hopefully you could just switch to the anime or manga when you hit these arcs, readjusting how many episodes/chapters you need to watch/read when you do. But that’s a bit of an excessive amount of math for something that’s supposed to be fun. So yeah, if you’re still convinced you shouldn’t get into One Piece until it’s ended, maybe this is the option for you.
If you plan to read the manga (Colored):
Since 2012, Shueisha has made a colorization of One Piece. It’s not a fan coloring, it’s as official as it gets. Many consider the color schemes portrayed in this version as the most canon, as the majority are pulled straight from whatever colored illustrations of Oda’s they can find. And quite frankly it makes the manga at least 10 times more beautiful. It’s especially great if you have trouble interpreting dense, small black and white panels.
This one is a doozy. You’d think all I gotta do is calculate how far behind the colored manga usually and just adjust from there, right? Wrong. Because how far behind the colored manga is, or how frequently they release volumes in full color, is one of the most inconsistent things I have ever seen. You wanna see what I’m talking about? This is how they’ve chosen to release each volume since 2012:
Volume 1-12: July 15, 2012
Volume 13-23: September 28, 2012
Volume 24-63: December 4, 2012
Volume 64-65: April 4, 2013
Volume 66-68: December 20, 2013
Volume 69-70: August 25, 2014
Volume 71-72: September 16, 2015
Volume 73-75: October 4, 2016
Volume 76: December 2, 2016
Volume 77: March 3, 2017
Volume 78: July 2, 2017
Volume 79: September 4, 2017
Volume 80: December 4, 2017
Volume 81-82: March 3, 2018
Volume 83: October 4, 2018
Volume 84-86: August 2, 2019
Volume 87-92: September 16, 2020
How I am supposed to find out how long it will take for Shueisha to colorize the final volume of One Piece is beyond me. I guess the first step would be to look at how far behind the manga each release was on average, but I’m going to ignore all the ones before 2013, because those were clearly just Shueisha catching up really fast cause they just started and didn’t want to be dozens of volumes behind forever. So of the 14 publications between 2013 and now, on average the last chapter of the last volume they colored was 97.78 weeks after that chapter had published in Weekly Shonen Jump. This means that if the final chapter of One Piece is chapter 1212 on December 28, 2025, then you can expect the final colored volume to publish November 14, 2027.
x = 1212/359
x = 3.37 chapters/week
So if you prefer the manga but don’t want to read 5 chapters every week for 5 years, this might be a better option for ya. But yea, I have no doubt my prediction is at least a little off for this one.
If you plan to watch the anime (dubbed):
Unlike the 4KidsTV and Odex dubs of One Piece, the FUNimation dub is a perfect way to enjoy One Piece. The DVDs come with enjoyable commentary and a marathon mode, great for binging.
FUNimation’s releases of the dub are inconsistent, although not nearly as erratic as the colored manga release. However, there was recently a 2-year hiatus we only just got out of. Since Episode 1′s dub in May 27, 2008, the dub has gotten as far as Episode 614. But that’s only looking at the DVD releases. If you’re willing to stream on FUNimationnow, the dub is as far as 641, and if you’re willing to digitally purchase it from an e-shop such as the Microsoft store, it goes all the way to Episode 654. With that being said, that would mean that on average, FUNimation dubs 1.004 episodes per week. Although if we go back to before the two-year hiatus so as to exclude it from the average, it’s actually 1.10 episodes per week. Not a huge difference, actually. And then if we look solely after the two-year hiatus, it’s actually 2.25 episodes per week, which is insanely faster. It’s hard to tell what the future of the dub will be. I can’t assume they’ll go this fast forever, so I’m just going to take the average of all 3 and say it’s 1.45 episodes per week. Don’t know if that’s the best mathematical approach, but the number seems about right.
So knowing that the dub is at Episode 654 and looking at our previous guesstimation that the anime will be 1280 episodes long, we can predict that it will take 431 weeks before the dub catches up and ends. That would be in 2029! Sounds quick at first until you notice it’s 4 years behind!
x = 1280/431
x = 2.96 episodes per week
Looks like it’s almost exactly 3 episodes per week. Not as much less of a workload as I expected, compared to catching up to the sub. You know, I figured those 4 extra years would make you binge a lot slower.
Final Thoughts:
There’s a lot of my math that was estimation, approximations, extrapolations. Feel free to correct me or fact check me, especially if you plan on using this. I figured this would be a fun thought excercise. There’s also a lot of smaller variables I simply didn’t want to take into account because of how long this is already. For example, reading the black and white manga. The calculation can vary slightly depending on if you read it the day it’s published (which I assume would have to be a fanscan unless you can read Japanese), reading the weekly publication legally on Viz.com, waiting for the physical volume release. The dub can also vary depending on whether you buy from Microsoft, wait for the FUNimationnow release, wait for the DVDs, or wait for the Collection sets. So feel free to take this into account.

Top 10 Personal Favorite Hit Songs from 2020
Tumblr media
You know, when I finished my latest list and realised every decade had the same pattern and that we were slowly going towards a series of great years for pop, I didn’t realise how good that year would be.
What’s at the top? Am I boringly predictable because I already said I loved that song all the way back in January 2020? Let’s find out.
Disclaimers:
Keep in mind I’m using both the year-end top 100 lists from the US and from France while making these top 10 things. There’s songs in English that charted in my country way higher than they did in their home countries, or even earlier or later, so that might get surprising at times.
Of course there will probably be stuff in French somewhere on this post. We suck. I know. It’s my list. Deal with it.
My musical tastes have always been terrible and I’m not a critic, just a listener and an idiot.
I have sound to color synesthesia which justifies nothing but might explain why I have trouble describing some songs in other terms than visual ones.
So. Uh. How was your 2020?
Mine was actually surprisingly good, considering. I’m lucky enough to have a job that I can partially do from home, and I was extremely paranoid from the get-go and nobody got sick under this roof so far. Turns out I’m even better at my job from home and I got permission to work from home one day per week even after the health crisis is over! My first name was also finally officially approved and I can’t tell you how happy I feel about that. I almost feel bad to have had such a good year considering the circumstances. I feel like an asshole just because I’m happy, haha.
The only frustrating part was that I was supposed to see Hatari in concert in Paris in early April which, as you can guess, was cancelled. I’m not too mad about it though, since their tour was called “Europe will crumble” and the message saying the tour was cancelled started with “since Europe is actually crumbling due to Covid-19″ and that’s hysterical.
Good or interesting albums that came out in 2020 now, let’s see.
Nightwish released Human/Nature, which was a huge letdown compared to their previous album, but I will relisten to it at some point to make sure I wasn’t just in a bad mood that day.
The Birthday Massacre released Diamonds, which might be their weakest album since their debut, but contained some real gems (I listened to The Last Goodbye on a loop, it floored me. Flashback and Enter are also very good).
The 1975 released Notes On A Conditional Form, and let’s be real, it’s a f█cking mess. You could cut half the tracks and end up with an excellent album, but as it is it’s like, yes, a collection of notes ; however there’s some truely excellent shit on it (see unelligible songs).
Thanks to a friend on a discord server I was exposed to Dorian Electra’s music and I haven’t been quite the same ever since. I’m so happy to be alive to see other enbies making such great music with an insanely good aesthetic surrounding it and asking so many interesting questions about gender. Also the arc the ‘gentleman’ character goes through over the course of the entire tracklist of the 2020 My Agenda album is absolutely hilarious, don’t @ me.
I also discovered 100 Gecs this year. Why are most of you guys saying it’s unlistenable garbage. It’s just as abrasive and over the top as industrial music is, but with none of the edginess or drama. I love it. What the hell. But yeah Tree of Clues was released this year. Good.
Speaking of industrial, in March 2020 Nine Inch Nails were like “hey remember when we released Ghosts I-IV a decade ago entirely for free and how amazing that was? Well we’re all in lockdown and bored as hell so here’s Ghosts V-VI and it’s also free. Enjoy” and I f█cking died instantly. And it’s even better than I-IV. What the hell was that year
Jonsi released Shiver. It’s strange and highly experimental. I’m pretty sure it’s a good thing I was into hyperpop this year, otherwise going from his previous material straight to this album would have been brutal.
Yadda yadda yadda After Hours by the Weeknd good yadda yadda.
I’ve joked about that already but if you had told me in 2019 that 2020 would have fires, a pandemic, riots, monoliths appearing and disappearing, and also a super good Machine Gun Kelly album, guess which part I would have found the most ridiculous. But yeah uh. Tickets to my Downfall good
So uh this year I tried to listen to some hyperpop and liked it a lot, and I also dipped my toes timidly into screamo and listened to Svalbard, who released When I Die this year, and the entire album was a very beautiful, very intricately decorated punch to the face. It sounds like God Is An Astronaut except with a shit ton of yelling. I love it. Open Wound is my favorite track on it.
But no, despite all of this, my album of the year was from a band I had never even heard about before that year, called Spanish Love Songs. The album is titled Brave Faces Everyone and it’s line after line after line of extremely relatable generational angst but yelled with complete sincerity and it’s so propulsive and energetic you can’t help but feel both exhausted and ready to fight the entire universe. I don’t know how it works, but it’s incredible. The entire album is wonderfully brutal, so it’s kind of difficult to pick my favorite songs on it, but Beachfront Property and the title track stand out.
Tumblr media
Unelligible songs, now, and there’s, uh, quite a few of them too so I’m also gonna use bullet points. Good lord this post is gonna be long.
First, let me say I have literally no idea why Midnight Sky by Miley Cyrus wasn’t a bigger hit. It’s not on the year-end US top 100 and it feels extremely wrong. Would have made it to #4 on this list otherwise.
I still entertain the vague hope that stuff from Machine Gun Kelly will chart higher in 2021 but I doubt it will happen so I might as well tackle it now and say that Bloody Valentine and especially Forget Me Too are both excellent and that it’s a shame radios aren’t playing them more often.
Heaven by the late Avicii featuring Coldplay should have charted in 2019 and still didn’t chart in 2020 and that’s a real shame.
If the world was a bit less unfair, Lovesick Girls by Blackpink would have been a hit rather than the awful Ice Cream.
One day I will stop complaining about my bafflement concerning the lack of mainstream pop charts success of The 1975. Today is not that day. I just love how they keep making songs about extremely awkward relationships full of weird details, and I haven’t grown tired of that yet. So yeah If You’re Too Shy is about a guy who’s crush is asking him to get naked on Skype in his hotel room and he’s, uh, not too sure about that idea.
And Me & You Together is about a guy who never finds the right moment to tell his best friend he’s in love with her, and he manages to do so at the end and it’s cute as hell. My fave part is “I'm sorry that I'm kinda queer / It's not as weird as it appears / It's 'cause my body doesn't stop me (Stop me) / Oh, it's okay, lots of people think I'm gay / But we're friends, so it's cool, why would it not be?”. Relatable as f█ck.
And now for an international hit that should have been bigger in the US and/or in my country but wasn’t: Head & Heart by Joel Corry and MNEK.
I’ve heard Nos Célébrations by Indochine extremely often on French radio for months now so I was very surprised to see that it didn’t crack the local year-end list. What happened.
I can finally hear the appeal of Bring Me The Horizon. It took me ages. And also Death Stranding. The song Ludens isn’t in the game per say, but it’s among the ones you can pick to broadcast briefly when people drive by your constructions, and long story short it's been living rent-free in my head for months now.
Phew.
It’s time for a round of Honorable Mentions for elligible songs, containing a couple of guilty pleasures, which is saying something considering the kind of shit I put on some of my previous lists.
Ne Reviens Pas (Gradur et Heuss lEnfoiré) - Heuss is a French artist that kept baffling me while making my lists for the previous years, and I was like “??? ok, that’s it then, I guess I’m getting too old to get what teenagers find funny”. This one worked for me, though. And the music video doesn’t hurt. Really dumb and really fun.
Adore You (Harry Styles) - Perfectly good little pop song, very pleasant to listen to, never outstayed its welcome for me.
Mood (24kGoldn) - This doesn’t sound like a very good relationship, my dude, but that’s still a super pleasant song.
WAP (Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion) - This song is absolutely hilarious and I will hear no argument from any of you.
Control (Zoe Wees) - Was clearly a hit here. Should have been even bigger though. What a powerful but comfy voice. If I had better taste it would be on the list.
Hot Girl Bummer (Blackbear) - I. Uh. Listen. I keep saying I have bad taste and nobody believes me. Do you believe me now. But yeah. “F█ck you, and you, and you~, I hate your friends and they hate me too” is gonna pop in my head every single time someone is being a jerk anywhere near me now. It’s been happening all year already. Someone trashed my documents at work? Someone isn’t wearing a mask in public? That guy has filled his car with rolls of toilet paper? Brain goes “F█ck you, and you, and you~”. Every. Single. Time.
Come & Go (Juice WRLD & Marshmello ) - Damn, that’s a pretty good little song. I’ve seen plenty of people saying it’s ruined by the drop, but may I remind you I’m the person who loves Blue by Eiffel 65 with all my heart. If the song was ramping up consistently until the end instead of ending like that, it would have made the list, definitely.
And now, the actual list. This one actually feels pretty solid, I genuinely like everything on it, there’s no filler here for once.
10 - The Box (Roddy Rich)
US: #3 / FR: #23
Tumblr media
Now this is a weird case, because for the longest time I couldn’t figure out why this song was so popular and I was completely neutral about it. Then, one morning in September, my mental jukebox (which always, always puts a song on a loop in my head when I wake up) decided to play it. And I was like oh wow?? I never noticed the atmosphere in that song before? It’s so great. And that hook too. Let’s listen to it.
So yeah, I don’t know what happened. It just clicked one day and everything fell into place, I guess.
9 - Alane (Wes & Robin Shulz)
US: Not on the list / FR: #93
Tumblr media
Come on. You can’t do a remake of one of my previous #1 songs and let it chart in 2020. That’s cheating. Even with this subpar drop, I have to put it on the list, now.
I’ve already said my piece about the original, so I’m just going to send you back to my 1997 list.
8 - Kings and Queens (Ava Max)
US: Not on the list / FR: #76
Tumblr media
[BBC documentary voice] After Lady Gaga decided to make piano balads and left her musical niche vacant, Ava Max quickly took her place as the top predator pop diva. Even after Lady Gaga was re-introduced to her natural habitat in 2020, she still hasn’t fully recovered in Europe, where Ava Max still reigns supreme on the charts -
(tldr I think it’s hilarious that this isn’t on the US Billboard while Lady Gaga isn’t on the French year-end top 100)
7 - Roses (Saint Jhn & Imanbek)
US: #19 / FR: #3
Tumblr media
What an earworm. It doesn’t even bother trying to have an intro or an outro, so it loops almost perfectly. It’s like entering a party that started long before you arrived, and it will go on long after you leave it to go back home. Kind of hypnotic in a way.
And yes, my mental jukebox was very fond of using it to wake me up this year, so this is another song that’s here almost solely because of that.
6 - Physical (Dua Lipa)
US: Not on the list / FR: #69 (hehehe)
Tumblr media
“Hey I’m not that old” says the guy who’s definitely a sucker for this kind of retro throwback that was so popular this year. Oh well.
I don’t have anything interesting to say about this one, though. Apart from the fact that everyone seems to have a different fave song on that album. Guess that’s quality for you.
5 - Rain on Me (Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande)
US: #48 / FR: Not on the list
Tumblr media
That is far from being Lady Gaga’s best song, but it was a joy to listen to everytime it was on the radio anyway. Also Ariana Grande has surprisingly good chemistry with Gaga! This year was full of strange duets mostly made for commercial reasons, and this one isn’t an exception, but unlike a lot of them, it really, really works.
4 - Dynamite (BTS)
US: #38 / FR: Not on the list
Tumblr media
I’m still not 100% sold on k-pop even if a ton of it sounds super good, but come on. Even if some bits of this song (especially the beginning of the second chorus) sound a bit like they were made on autopilot, it still sounds just as happy and fun several months after I first heard it and I never got tired of it. That’s quality. You hear it and you can’t help but tap your feet and smile.
Actually, I’m sure there’s people somewhere that don’t smile when they hear this song. And they must be avoided at all costs.
3 - Godzilla (Eminem ft Juice WRLD)
US: #62 / FR: Not on the list
Tumblr media
What are you doing so high on this list, old man. Why are you still here in the year 2020. I thought we left you in the previous decade. Who gave you the right.
I’m gonna tell you who did, and it’s actually Juice WRLD. Because that chorus is incredible, and like a lot of people I’m pissed off because the guy died super young and this shit shouldn’t happen to anybody. No, his early material wasn’t great, but I’m sorry I’m gonna say it again: have you heard this damn chorus? It’s suspenseful and dark, it’s got this lowkey menacing quality, it’s an earworm and a half, and it’s more convincing in like six lines than Eminem’s own flexing is in the entire song.
The beat is extremely good as well, and the flow, obviously, impressive. The weakest link is Eminem’s writing, which is as usual full of puns and weird wordplay, except here a lot of it isn’t great, and that last ultra fast part at the end is technically impressive but it also drives the song up a cliff and stops it dead in its tracks once it’s over. But frankly the lines fly by so fast it’s difficult to be too annoyed by them.
Can I sincerely put this extremely flawed song so high on my list? A better question would be “did I spend hours trying to learn how to sing this shit without choking on my own spit?”. The answer is yes. To both.
2 - Heartless (The Weeknd)
US: #28 / FR: Not on the list
Tumblr media
I’ve said it on my 2015 and 2016 lists already, but just for the record I’ll say it again: it took me ages to like The Weeknd, mostly because I found most of his songs fairly boring, or disliked the lyrics, or both. Also I never really liked the general vibe of his “sexy” songs like The Hills, they felt dark but in an unpleasant creepy way. Felt like miserable hedonism, if that makes sense.
So, because I’m a person with extremely consistent and logical tastes, here’s the exact same shit he was making before, except that this time I absolutely adore it.
What is he doing differently that makes the whole After Hours album click for me whereas almost all of his previous material failed to do so? Is it the energy? Is it the reverb? Is it the fact that the narrator sounds properly unhinged and, frankly, scared to be spiralling out of control? Why are the colors so beautiful yet full of anxiety? Why is that bridge so fantastic? How can you make your voice look like a glowstick in the dark?
I give up. I have no clue. At least I’m done talking about-
Tumblr media
Oh.
1 - Blinding Lights (The Weeknd)
US: #1 / FR: #1 (listen sometimes something’s just that good, ok)
Tumblr media
Surprise. Or not.
Wow, look at that, Johannes has put this year’s number one pop song at number one on their personal playlist. The audacity. The edge. What a hot take.
I discovered that song when it first came out at the end of 2019 and I adored it instantly. And I was so scared it wouldn’t be a hit. Which means I’m a f█cking dumbass considering it ended up breaking all sorts of records in 2020. But what can I say, overplay can be a blessing when you love a song that much.
Like every single song I put at number one on one of my lists, I will draw this one at some point and you will understand how incredibly satisfying it is to listen to a song called Blinding Lights, talking about city lights looking blurry when you’re driving at night, while looking itself like a bunch of blurry city lights passing by super fast. Perfect in every way.
Also it sounds exactly like A-ha, and that never hurts.
See you next year! Pretty sure it will be even better music-wise.

April Progress Update, and May Goals:
*bear with me this is gonna get long.
I’m going to first just look at April goals and see if I did them, then afterward summarize everything I did this month (cause it was a lot more than I planned ToT)
Chinese study plan from April:
1. Read anything
Well, I did read. However my goal to read hanshe to chapter 80 and Zhenhun to the end of the sundial arc never happened. I did read a lot though. I ended up focusing mainly on extensive reading.
Chinese chapters read: 62 (I counted graded readers/小王子 as 1 chapter for every two that I read, but this number is probably still inflated... compared to my normal 20-pleco page chapters I probably read 31-40 of those-kind-of-chapters length wise).
Chinese stories finished: 4 (Pleco Graded Reader Butterfly Lovers, Chinese Short Stories, Mandarin Companion Journey to the Center of the Earth, 小王子 - you can tell this is where my attention went this month).
Chinese Listening Reading Method chapters done: 14.5 (4.5 Silent Reading, 2 Chapters of A History of Humankind, 1 chapter hp, 1 chapter Alice in Wonderland, iffy but like 3 chapters 小王子, iffy but like 4 chapters of the Xiao Mao cat story - I should note that for Silent Reading, 小王子, Xiao Mao I only looked at the chinese mostly so more step 2, and for the others I did step 3 as recommended). Also I realize... I should probably count this with hours instead of chapters, because hours are where the original poster about LR mentioned when milestones are hit. However, being realistic, I do not do things in hour segments so I’m not sure any tracking will be as easy as this way...
A cool thing potentially about L R Method? I found some resources recently that will make this a lot easier (Bidiread is a site that can make parallel texts for you, which made silent reading MUCH easier since the audio doesn’t perfectly match so you NEED to see the chinese even if only doing step 3, to make sure you can keep track of where you are in the text when the audio skips paragraphs). I also found Francais Par Le Methode Nature as videos on youtube with audio and the text visible (is that not simply L R method step 2 but its all comprehensible, i love that book). And I found a few files on youtube of audiobooks with english audio and chinese/english parallel text on screen (a bit backwards in process but i’m curious to test it), one youtube channel who does chinese audio with parallel texts on screen (phenomenal!), and I remembered the site bilinguis exists which is excellent for French if you wanna try L R Method (it has a few french audios with the parallel texts). Also in the case of A History of Humankind - the audiobook for once is very closely synced to the actual chapter start/ends, so it was just easier to do L R Method with.
2. Listen to Chinese Spoonfed Audio, shadowing when I can
YES I did this! I was on 11 last month, now I’m on 15. (so 4 audio this month) Yes I realize that wasn’t a lot of improvement T-T. What can I say I am not very good at being disciplined. However I did learn something interesting this month ABOUT listening to these so I think I might do it more - I listened to some in the background while playing games, then later listened to them again (also why I only got through 4 - I was replaying audios maybe 2 times). And when I listened the second time I could understand nearly all, whereas obviously when playing my game I only caught parts of it. So I suppose what this showed me is partially listening and partially focusing still may have some benefit in helping to learn the info - and well obviously its easier to make time to play audio when u don’t need to focus 100% on it.
I also did some other misc listening to random stuff without any plan: 6? audio 1 of DeFrancis Beginner Chinese Reader, 1 audio of FSI Chinese, 2 condensed audios of Guardian (which was so cool?? also so cool i can follow along so well now??), 1 dracula chapter audio (don’t even ask i don’t know either), tian ya ke audio drama ep 1.
Chinese show episodes watched: 28 (You can see here is where my time went listening wise lol - Two Souls in One is GOOD u might wanna check it out, is all I’m saying, especially if the taiwan drama Bromance was ur thing, or the anime Ouran Host Club, or even Bureau of Transformer to a degree. I watched up to ep 25 and once its all aired to the finale I’m gonna finish it.
Optional going through my hanzi book: I burned out on this, but it was a good use of my time when I felt like writing. I only wrote/studied maybe 30 hanzi, and maybe 50 hanzi+radicals in my Radical-Specific hanzi book. If I continue, I think my goal will be to just continue the Radical-book to completion. Realistically, longer term, I need to go through the freaking Alan Hoenig’s Chinese Character’s book just to get the hanzi and their rough meaning to stick in my head (and learn the pronunciations through well context and vocab how I normally do). Right now I just learn through reading, but its an issue of sometimes I just end up associating one hanzi with the new word I learned but then as soon as I see it in a new word I don’t even remember having seen it before. If I paid a bit more attention to distinguishing I might notice when I’ve seen them before or they’re new, and have more starting info to relate to the character to attach the word info onto. (its a convoluted way of me saying if I have things to connect to each other I remember better even if it makes little sense to connect them - if I know car and pet, carpet’s easier to remember even though it has nothing to do with cars, cry in french ‘pleurer’ was easier to remember once my brain thought ‘plume of tears’ even though that makes no sense. i just remember things better than seeing pleurer and having no idea what to attach it to at all - even if i heard it means cry, if i don’t have a thing to associate it with i’ll forget easier. or melancholy - i had to associate it with melons, and cholly - reminds me of words for sickness so heavy-sick +sad is how i started finally remembering that word cause wow did i look it up over and over as a kid).

Japanese study plan from April:
1. continue through nukemarine’s memrise courses.
Okay I did do this!! Congrats! In March I had completed LLJ 3 - Kanji, 289/318 finished in LLJ 4 Tae Kim part 1. As of April, I have completed: LLJ 4 Part 1, LLJ 4 Part 2 51/365, LLJ 5  Core Vocabulary 420/1020. So yeah! Going quite well, in that I consistently did it - I realized for me the best time to do it is playing video games oddly enough, or watching youtube - just do it in between areas, or ep scenes/videos, as a short 5-10 minute break. Since I like taking breaks from things anyway. Like audio, its hard for me to find ways to get myself to do stuff like this (except worse cause I don’t vibe with flashcards).
My goal for May will probably be finish LLJ 4 Part 2, LLJ 5, and start LLJ 6? I can dream right...
Also, a cool note: I found audio-flashcard files that people made of the Japanese Core 2k vocabulary deck and sentences, with english-japanese audio. (If anyone wants a link just let me know). So now if I DO eventually get burned out on flashcards, I could switch to using those. They would work about as well as the Chinese Spoonfed Audio files I have (which work extremely well for me - audio flashcards I just listen to are so much more suited to how I study lol). However, I’d like to stick with Nukemarine’s decks as long as possible while I can focus - they cover grammar explicitly which helps me a lot, and the reading practice COMBINED with constant audio really helps me learn the readings of words. Which is something I need for japanese a LOT more than chinese.
2. continue reading Tae Kim’s grammar guide
Ahahahahaaa hahaaa... did not do it. Nope.
What I did do that was grammar related:
Watched Cure Dolly lessons 1-5 (and will probably watch more as I seem to click well with those explanations)
Read 24 pages of Japanese in 30 Hours while transcribing actual japanese into it (and will probably continue to read it, its so short I should just DO IT in a couple days, it also fulfilled my desire to write stuff)
JapaneseAudioLessons.com - read the wa vs ga explanation, reading the portable japanese grammar notes document right now (its 11 pages I’ll finish it today). I’ve said it before but i really LOVE this resource, and they have so much for free. I absolutely recommend if a beginner wants Pimsleur or Michael Thomas or some other paid resource etc, to just go to this site, download their full lesson grammar guide (its like 311 pages like a real textbook) and go through all their free audio lessons. You will cover a lot of ground (more than Pimsleur or Michael Thomas), and all for free. In addition, I’ve bought some of their kanji teaching books and they’re overall my favorite for remembering kanji specifically (yes more than Heisig’s RTK by far, and more than KKLC - although the Kodanshi book is a good reference to have around). I’m not kidding at all when I say just try this site’s free resources if you’re trying to use free stuff, its the closest I’ve found to an audio only teaching method, or an audio/textbook-like combo, that’s this much stuff and free. (For non free, I actually liked Genki if you do everything in it).
Other misc things done in japanese:
Watched Dracula the Musical in japanese with no subs. It was super hard, but also not so hard. It changed my life. 1000/10 would recommend watching it if you even remotely like dracula OR vampires - featuring a lesbian Dracula/Mina, and more importantly a story change about who kills Dracula, and Dracula and Mina’s agency and choice being the driving force of the ending. These story changes I LOVE and I now want them in more adaptations moving forward, its what I always craved of the ending of Dracula and never got - Dracula as a person (not monster), Mina as a person (not prey), and their choices influencing how the story ends and by whom (versus Van Helsing/the establishment symbol regaining control through annihilation of the ‘threat’ to that norm). Also it gave me a new interest in Japanese plays which is cool. I did not expect to love them this much! Also gave me a boost in japanese confidence, in that I no longer feel as “scared” to try immersing in japanese or in some kinds of content that seemed ‘harder’ - and that was a big hurdle I was too afraid to do, in the past when I studied.
Watched a few more lets plays (lets guess maybe 3-5 sections of 20 minutes?). Persona 2 innocent sin (cool to see me follow along despite not knowing the game), Final Fantasy IX (this one I saved, and could definitely pick up words from since I know some of the story and the lets player read everything - I should look up FFX), random stuff.
Tried to play some games in japanese! I’m going to go with this was about 3 hours. I tried crisis core’s opening to the first save point - it was playable (I can read most of the menus), and I can follow enough text to get the overall gist - however it was draining as so much is text only (I FORGOT how much reading is in this game). Great for reading practice I suppose. Also great in that it definitely reset my expectations about what is ‘doable’ for me - however I do think KH2 is probably still the easiest game i should start trying games with (since I have so many of the controls/menu memorized and can waste less time re-reading the tutorials), and since I know so many words by memory I’ll be able to focus more on grammar (whereas in CC I was glancing through kanji trying to keep up with the live action scenes). A bit too much reading for me to tackle again for a while, it was draining lol. Then I tried persona 3 for psp - first, i like the ps2/ps3 version better ToT. Second, also somehow I could read enough to survive - but the reading again took time, a lot isn’t voiced, and there are not frequent save points. So again I just played to the first save point. That one I may try again before CC though, because a lot more of the language is daily life stuff I could glance through and speed-read-guess lol, or could actually use if I learned it. Also occassionally p3 reads out loud which is nice. I suspect the Visual Novel I got will actually be best for practice (despite me not knowing the plot at all), because I’m guessing more of the lines will be voiced. All this reading would help me more if I could hear it voiced - and I may want to watch more Lets Plays, and Audiobooks on youtube, mainly for that fact: subtitles that i can read WITH audio so i can practice listening and reading together.
Tried reading a bit! First, some mangas I had (though I only read a page of each) - mainly it was just nice to see mangas are more accessible now. they’re about as readable to me rn as manhua were in chinese at 6-8 months in. I can just about follow the main gist, more if I use a dictionary for details. Also thanks to @yue-muffin telling me, learned I can look up words on iphone in the web browser just by highlighting words and clicking “look up.” Life changing. That in combination with me finding some japanese scripts of Final Fantasy games online (and I’ve always been curious what localizations changed), and this has been a little reading I found myself doing just because i felt like it. I didn’t read much - the equivalent of several dialogue boxes (the games i played made me read a LOT more lol). but I liked that i could see their kana when i looked them up, sound the sentences out to myself, contemplate them (so intensive read). Also if you have Speech tools enabled on your phone, you can swipe down with 2 fingers and it will read the page aloud - I used to do that a little with chinese on dual chinese-englist mtlnovel pages since it WILL read both, but Pleco reads chinese better so unless i’m only-listening i switched to pleco for that. But for these scripts it works great! (occasionally it will read all-kanji titles like chinese though lol - not once its into japanese sentences though). I thought it was really cool I could basically emulate what I do in Pleco for chinese, in a normal web browser for Japanese. (Also, for websites, Idiom app seems to work ok for reading Aloud as well - possibly better - but ios iphone “Look up” dictionaries are MUCH better than Idiom app’s).
In summary basically I surprisingly enjoyed reading and might keep trying to do it just because its interesting. However in general, first: I really want 2k words done in Nukemarine’s LLJ courses (LLJ 7 would put me at 1k common words, LLJ 12 would put me at 2k so...), and I’d really like a better grammar foundation (Cure Dolly, or japanese audio lessons grammar, Nukemarine LLJ also obviously fits that task with the grammar portions, really anything). While I want to play games, again I just really realize... how much easier my life will be with a better basis of knowledge first lol. Reading I can do in bite size if I want, but playing games is Draining in between saves right now lol. While i CAN do it right now, unless its a game i really can tune out with (like KH2 maybe) then its just too intensive right now for me to tolerate too much of.
Also, again, I think doing Nukemarine’s LLJ decks as breaks while playing games/watching stuff is working great, going to keep doing that. And listening to audio flashcard files while I have dead time (like level grinding). I have been listening to the Chinese Spoonfed audio, but other options could be: the english-japanese Core 2k audio files, the Japanese Audio Lessons files (which once years ago I’d listen to while excerising). For now I’ve focused on Chinese Spoonfed audio because I know I need to FINISH something before jumping to something else lol.
---
French stuff I did in April:
Listened to 6 chapters of Francais Par Le Methode Nature (and read some of them - oh i missed this book its my fave way to learn and it finally has audio!!)
listened to some bits of audiobooks (i don’t even know why, i don’t know - dracula, frankenstein, carmilla, sherlock)
read a little of Le Petit Prince (idk 3 chapters? browsing my book after finishing in chinese and... ok my heart is still a bit ;-; ... i’m gonna need to recover from this story...)
read a bit of dracula (again... idk why... also it was kind of a L R Method step 2 attempt in that I listened to audio too, but really I mainly just... read)
L R Method: 2 Chapters of Alice in Wonderland (step 2, because I have not tried step 3 yet).
What is funny as hell to me is both how many words I look up when I contemplate intensive reading (again life changed by the fact i can just highlight words and click “word lookup” on my phone). But also how I already... know I can thoroughly read without doing it. Like... yes I can look up a word I fuzzy-know to get clarification, but even my phone auto-gives me french-french dictionary first and sometimes only (is it because my google is in french), i’ve been used to french definitions only for years.. and also like... i know when i read a whole paragraph i get whatever words were fuzzy before? just read some of dracula again today and its fine. its fine. again informational texts are easier for me - but dracula being a lot of letters ‘describing what happened’ suits me quite easily (and somehow manages to be less annoying to me than the english version). like... alice in wonderland was probably the harder for all the quick adjectives/verbs used in just one or two paragraphs when i was still re-remembering vocabulary i used to know lol. Like... in a dream world i’d love to test L R Method and see HOW MUCH it can teach a person. But like... while french would be the easiest to test it with? I kind of realize i’m also at a point in french where i have more benefit just continuing to read in french and listen in french (to fix my poor listening skills). referencing the english is not really... particularly necessary, it just usually slows me down. while i’m missing a LOT of words for fluent speaking/grammatically ok speaking - i don’t think listening reading method would really help me with that, since reading sure hasn’t. if any readng material might it’s francais par le methode nature just because it drills simple correct grammar construction, and reinforces it, and teaches grammar through context. but all my other reading materials... are more comprehension...
Anyway in SUMMARY wow i did a lot more than i expected this month!

Next months goals!
Chinese May Goals:
***Read anything. Great plan, has been working great. Ideally I would like to: finish Xiao Mao book one, and then either continue another Xiao Mao novel or start one of the other stories rated 2+ ease. I am considering  许三观卖血记 because its about as easy as the little prince, I’ve read an excerpt and its historical fiction so generally practical. Or  流星·蝴蝶·剑 by Gu Long if I want to work on a base in wuxia words from an easier novel. Or  他们的故事 by 一根黄瓜丝儿 if I’m ready to return to it - although this one is longer (the other stories being more like 12-20 chapters) so I’d prefer to save this for later. For any of these - look words up as desired since I’ll read them in Pleco. Ideally as my ‘harder’ reading I would like to either continue hanshe (intensive reading), or continue guardian (extensive reading) - so its a matter of if I want to look words up.
***Continue listening to Chinese Spoonfed Audio (please can i Finish it please ;-;)
Optional: experiment with Listening Reading Method. With the finding of those videos on youtube, I’d like to make my life literally as easy and streamlined as possible and literally just TEST L R Method by doing it with a few of the videos I found. It literally cannot get easier than premade videos with audio.
Other optional: listen to misc audio (I would love the time to watch the tian ya ke audiodrama WITH its subtitles then listen without again), watch shows, read Alan Hoenig’s Chinese Characters (i doubt this will happen), do some of my Radical-hanzi book.
Japanese May Goals:
***Continue: Nukemarine’s LLJ courses - ideally finish LLJ 4 Part 2, LLJ 5, and start LLJ 6. (this truly can be basically my only study method if I can’t do more). THIS IS THE PRIORITY. The quicker I get ALL of this done, the more of a foundation I will have to do Anything else.
Hopefully: Continue some kind of grammar explanation beyond Nukemarine’s stuff - either Tae Kim (unlikely but i was at chapter 10 before), Cure Dolly (i’m on 6), Japanese Audio Lessons Grammar, Japanese in 30 Hours while writing japanese in (I’m on page 24). Again this is a higher priority as it will make anything else easier.
Optional: Reading in any form - so video game time, lets plays, audiobook youtube with captions, actual reading as desired (like scripts). Including this because I know I will eventually try again lol.
Optional: listening in any form - so another musical! maybe listen to japanese audio lessons, or the core 2k audio, or a lets play, etc. I find I’m probably less likely to listen to something but it might happen!
French May Goals*:
*aka if I feel like doing it because french has no real goals at the moment! -3-)/
***Continue watching Le Francais Par Le Methode Nature videos. (There’s only 33, they’re like 10 minutes long or less, its about basics, PLEASE). I remember this book took forever to read 1/3 of when i was an upper beginner, well now surely its less slow going? especially because read aloud its as fast as the speakers voice! so it is not time consuming and i’ve wanted to finish this book forever! i could at least finish it up to where the audio files match to!
Read???? Read??? Honestly I’ve just been wanting to read Dracula and Carmilla in French its a vibe I’ve been in. Its not high priority or anything but hey it might happen. If it does happen, ideally I’d like to listen to an audiobook too around the same time (maybe after, or have the page read, idk). Just because while reading refreshes my vocab, what I really want to build up is listening/pronunciation. To get to a point where I can listen and shadow would be nice.
Tied to above, try L R Method? Not a high priority, though it would be super easy to test! Just because I already started testing it with Alice in Wonderland... but that basically amounts to just reading practice with audio again, for me.
I found Merlin in french so THAT is a thing.
Honestly the only thing I really want to do ‘study’ wise in french is finish that freaking book, especially now that I can listen to audio with it. It’s a nice foundation and I’d really like a refresher/fill in any big gaps in my learning. Anything else about french written here is mostly a reminder to myself to LISTEN to audio when possible, and try and improve that skill a bit if I go and read.
---
Real fast CORE SUMMARY:
Chinese: READ easier stories rated 2+ and keep getting through some, in combination with reading the harder hanshe and Guardian. Also listen to Chinese Spoonfed audio whenever u remember! Attempt some L-R method with the youtube videos you found. Immerse as desired.
Japanese: continue Nukemarine LLJ courses. Also do some grammar study somewhere, and immerse as desired.
French: listen/listen-read to Francais Par Le Methode Nature. Also read/listen as desired - ideally combining the activities.
*in all cases, where possible, combine listening-reading or try to practice both skills. (So reading in Pleco - play audio afterward to practice, play Guardian condensed audio in down time, with audiodramas follow subs when possible, when immersing with anything try L-R like strategies to add practice with both skills).
