Tag list: @chanberrys @needyateez @marooneclipse @a-revolution-teez @choisanzsâ if youve reblogged the master list ill assume youd like to be tagged, you can also be asked to be added!
San (Lust 1) / Yeosang (Gluttony 2) / Seonghwa (Greed 3) / Wooyoung (Envy 4) / Filler Chapter (5)
âSanggie already saw here and thats not fair!â
Seonghwa twitched as he waited for San to open the door, ignoring Wooyoungâs yelling from the phone as he rose a curious brow, waiting for the boy to open the door. âWooyoung shut up.â Seonghwa ended the call and shoved his phone in his pocket as he leaned closer and knocked on the door harder. âSan!â
San growled lowly, wrapping his arms around your waist tighter as he glared at the door. He pulled away. âFinish cooking, please.â The âpleaseâ being tacked on as a last minute addition. San stood up straight before walking towards the door and swinging it open.
âCan i come in?â Seonghwa watched San, gold eyes watching red, not stepping foot inside the room. Seonghwa couldnt come in unless he had Sanâs permission, or you gave him permission. Sanâs lip curled as he shook his head. âNo you cannot.â Seonghwa make be older but San is stronger. âNo you can not~â San smiled widely before he saw you come around the corner. âSan who is this? Another one of the sins?â
This male was tall, caramel colored hair, sharp gold eyes (those have to be contacts right?) and a cunning smile once he saw you appear, gold eyes lighting up. âHello~ May i come in?â You frowned. âOf course why wouldnt you be allowed?â His cunning grin turned into a smirk as he pushed past San, automatically bee lining your way and gently holding your hand, kissing the back of it. âYou do smell delightful, Thats wonderful.â You blinked, not expecting the boy to appear as quickly as he did, San quietly closing the door.
âYes, this here, is Greed.â San came around and pulled you away from Seonghwaâs hands, a nasty look being sent towards Seonghwa as San stood behind you. Seonghwa stood up straight, lips pulled into a polite smile.
âYes, i am greed but my name is Park Seonghwa. Its a pleasure to meet you Y/n.â His smile was tempting in all the wrong ways, but the way San had a hold of you, an arm wrapped around your waist, tugging you into his side, said he knew what you were thinking. Of course he did thats the first thing he did when you woke up.
âUh...likewise?â You muttered, a questioning tone. âUh how did you get here- Wait did you said i smell delightful? Yeosang said the same thing.â Seonghwaâs eyes brightened at the mention of Gluttonyâs name. âSo youve met Sangie? Ah, indeed, you smell absolutely devine its a shame San got to you firstâŚâ A deep rumble next to your chest hold you that San had growled- Wait growled? You fidgeted, noticing the thick tension in the room.
âUhm...i need to finish cookingâŚâ You squirmed your way from Sanâs iron hold and escaped into the kitchen.
Taking a deep breath you thought back to the small conversation you had with San. âThink hard enough and you can summon himâ. You closed your eyes tightly, thinking and imagining the pretty boy infront of you, almost begging for someone sane in the current situation that is happening in your living room.
A familiar presence next to you made you relax, coming face to face with Yeosang. âOh thank you for showing up.â Yeosang cocked his head to the side, eyes darting to the hallway that led to the two sins. âSannie...and Hwa are here? Greed and Lust but heads all the time. But youâve been claimed so it shouldnt be this bad.â
Yeosang glanced at the kitchen then to you. â...is that chicken?â You giggled, nodding and plating the food and guiding Yeosang to a table. âSan said you liked chicken.â He giggled and nodded. âHeâs so cute, like a little brotherâ You smiled and turned back to the kitchen only to see Seonghwa and San standing infront of you. âI cant believe it actually worked, you summoned YeosangâŚâ Seonghwa mumbled. âSheâs stronger then you said.â He turned towards San, seeing the smirk on his face. âThats my angel, so full of purity and innocence, so strong and you dont even know it.â He grinned, San lifting your hand to his lips as he pressed a kiss against your knuckles. âEverytime you do something somewhat sinful you just smell that much better, youre so intoxicating.â He smirked as Seonghwa sat infront of Yeosang.
Shuffling closer to you he pressed his face against your neck, almost groaning. âYou smell so good~ Its so worrisome that no one has noticed you til nowâŚâ San tensed, head turning towards the door. âYou mustâve had a guardian angel, keeping you from us, hiding your scent, dulling it so we cant sense itâŚâ San purred quietly in your ear, eyes scanning the area. âBut where is he now? He must have been one of the strongest to be able to dull your scent almost completely.â
You blinked, confused. âIf i did...i didnt knowâŚâ Seonghwa chuckled. âOf course you didnt know, theyre supposed to stay out of sight, only guard you from death.â You threw a glare toward the sin who merely smirked. âHush, i didnt know you sins existed til this one introduced himself, quite rudely, this morning. And ive met two others in one day, so you can imagine how tired i am correct?â
He wiggled from Sanâs hold and placed a plate infront of Seonghwa then one next to Yeosang for San. âSit down and eat, both of you.â
âShe sorta smells like...Felix?â San stopped at Yeosangâs words. âFelix? Like The guardian angel Felix?â Yeosang nodded absentmindedly, chewing on his food. âWhat happened to Felix for him to leave her side...and how do you know Felix?â Yeosang hummed, swallowing a bite. âWooyoungie knows one of his mortal friends? Changbin? I think thats his name.â
San hummed quietly, thinking about why Felix could have disappeared from your side. âHeâs strong tho, what could have pulled him away like that?â San mumbled, eyes gliding towards you. âYou said i could summon Yeosang if i tried hard enough right? And i did, it worked...do you think i could somehow summon Felix?â
â...also i had a guardian angel? Apparently how youâre speaking of him he is...a strong angel?â San scrunched his nose but nodded, not sitting well with the feeling of talking about how to summon an angel, let alone a guardian angel. Especially with Felix being a higher being then just an angel.
âYes...Felix is a very strong guardian angel. He usually works alone but he has, two other angels he works with and mortal friends for some reason, but they arent important, what is important is, what happened to Felix. Even though hes an angel he was supposed to guard you, and its increasingly frightening the more i think about how he disappeared enough for me to find you and claim you.â
You nodded, backing up on your thoughts. âSo? Do you think i could try and summon him?â The three sins turned and looked at you. âYou want to try and summon an angel?â Seonghwa spoke, a mocking tone as he spoke. âLet alone a guardian angel? Who you dont even know what he looks like?â You couldnt help but shrink a little bit at his mocking.
âShe did summon Yeosang...and we do know someone who knows what Felix looks like, and one who knows someone he works withâŚâ San mumbled, looking around. âBut is it a smart idea to search for him? Maybe he doesnt want to be found? But he wouldnt just abandon the person he was sent to protect right?â Yeosang spoke up as he finished his plate, orange eyes locking on you. âBut summoning me seemed to drain you, so how about you eat then rest, the rest of us will look for ways to find him, this guardian angel-â
âI think this is a bad idea.â Seonghwa stood up.
âWhy would it be a bad idea?â
âHello? Yeosang? The two strongest sins are going to look for a guardian angel? Does that sound ok?â
You puffed your cheeks as you listened to the duo talk. âWhat if i want to find him? He should be around right? Do i need to put myself in danger for him to show up?â San blinked at your words. âLove, you smell like me now, i dont know if heâd come to save you. Im pretty sure, if he was still around he wouldnt saved you from me as soon as i appeared. Some low level demon wouldnt smelled Felix on you and bolted...but it was so faint i could barely smell it.â He hummed quietly.
âWe can try tomorrow ok? We can talk to someone who knows how to find him.â He sighed. âSince youre so persistent on it.â You smiled and nodded. âNow...can all of you leave so i can clean up and go to sleepâŚâ
âDont worry about it, ill clean up for you.â Seonghwa stood up, grabbing the plates and walking towards the sink, Yeosang standing up and stretching before nodding. âIâll leave, thank you for the food Y/n.â You smiled as the pink haired boy nodded, disappearing with orange smoke. You coughed a bit before hesitating to leave with one unknown sin in your kitchen cleaning up. The feeling of an arm around your waist guiding you to your room startled you. âSan-â
âDont worry, he will probably end up cleaning your whole houseâŚâ He snickered as he opened your door. âHeâs a clean freak.â Seonghwa hissed from inside the kitchen. âShut up San!â
He chuckled and closed the door behind you both, guiding you to the bed and humming. âChange. Maybe ill sing for you.â
You nodded and grabbed clothes before heading into your bathroom, throwing a glance back at San who grinned at you from the chair at your table. âGo on or ill come in to help you change!â You threw a glare before slamming the door shut behind you, letting Sanâs laughter seep through the door.
âI hate sins...â
âDont lie baby you love us!â
âI only tolerate some of you, aka Yeosang!â

My Youth (Chapter 6)
Broken and miserable, Park Jinyoung returns to his hometown to learn that no matter how hard he falls, there are still people who think heâs a hero.

â-Mom, Iâm busy,â Jinyoung muttered into the phone. He had been sitting in a crucial meeting with the Finance Director of GOT Tech and representatives of the Financial Regulatory Board. Receiving approval for his company to go public was one of the most critical and risky steps in Jinyoungâs career.
His mother, however, had been calling him constantly for the last twenty minutes.
Mrs. Park sounded upset. âIâm sorry, Jinyoung, dear. I just needed to reach you-â
âMom, Iâm in an extremely important meeting right now. Do you know how it looks when the Managing Director of GOT Group keeps getting calls from his mother during business meetings? What do you want from me?â Jinyoung demanded in a frustrated whisper, running his fingers through his hair. He tried not to let his agitation show on his face; the other high-profile attendees of the meeting could still see him through the glass wall of the conference room.
âJinyoung, thereâs been a terrible tragedy in town,â his mother began nervously. âI donât⌠I donât know how to tell you this, but i suppose thereâs no easy way to talk about a death.  Remember I told you that Iâve been going to the hospital every day to meet-â
Jinyoung felt a burst of irritation. The clock was ticking. The Board members were waiting for him impatiently and he could see the disapproval on their faces. âMom, did you call me to tell me that someone died?â
âWell⌠yes, but-â
âMom, I have been preparing for this presentation for months. The future of my company depends on this meeting. This is absolutely the worst time you could have chosen to tell me something like this,â Jinyoung muttered through gritted teeth. He took a deep breath and tried to calm himself. âPlease donât mess up my focus right now. We can talk about this later. Do you need anything from me urgently?â
Mrs. Park hesitated. âYou always seem to be busy these days. I just thought⌠if we could maybe help out with the funeral expenses or the hospital billsâŚâ
Jinyoung closed his eyes. âMom, you can just call my secretary for that. Sheâll send you whatever amount you need. Send them flowers from me or something, okay? I have to go now.â
âTake care, Jinyoung, dear-â
âBye, Mom.â
Jinyoung hung up and sighed, pressing his fingers to his temple. His personal secretary had followed him out of the room and was watching him nervously. He hadnât even asked his mother who it was that had passed away. Was it somebody he knew? Maybe it was best that he didnât think about it too much for now.
âTake my Momâs call and ask her who died, send them money for the funeral and all those formalities,â Jinyoung told his secretary shortly. She nodded and made a note of it on her phone quickly while Jinyoung cleared his mind.
Focus. The presentation. The numbers. Â
Jinyoung took a deep, calming breath and plastered a rehearsed smile on his face before he turned to enter the conference room once more.
âIâm so sorry to keep you gentlemen waiting,â Jinyoung greeted all the well-dressed men with a bright smile. âI hope you can forgive me. Mothers seem to have a knack for calling at the most inconvenient times, donât they?â
The men chuckled politely. âThatâs perfectly fine, Mr. Park.â
âMay I begin the presentation?â
âPlease, do.â
--------
Jinyoung believed that to achieve something great, you needed to make certain sacrifices.
He had always known that the path he was embarking upon was not an easy one. Establishing your own business meant that you didn't get off work at 5 pm sharp, you couldnât spend your weekends at a countryside cabin or getting drinks with your friends. You needed to keep working until things got done. You needed to compete in the market. You needed to be strong enough to pick up after your losses and clever enough to make friends in the right places. People were depending on you.
Jinyoung hadnât merely chosen a career, he had chosen a life.
A very lonely life.
Whenever his mother would call him and try to have a casual chat, Jinyoung would find himself irritated. Who cared whether Mrs. Lee from the grocery store was giving a discount on strawberry bread? What did it matter if Mr. Cha had been trying to sell his little farmland? There was important work to be done. Jinyoung needed to talk to the advertising agents to make sure his products were being launched properly, he needed to negotiate discounts with suppliers to ensure he could meet the planned pricing goals. There were employees relying on him. There were investors who had trusted him with their money. There were quarterly goals that had to be met.
Every second of Jinyoungâs time was precious. Why couldnât everyone understand that? Why couldnât his mother stop thinking that her tiny little world in this tiny little town was everything, and understand the importance of what her son was doing?
There are a limited number of hours every man has at his disposal. We each make a conscious choice regarding how to spend each one.
It was only now, standing in front of your motherâs grave, that Jinyoung came a terrifying realization.
He had made the wrong choices.
------
âIt was heart failure,â Mrs. Park whispered.
Jinyoungâs hands clutched the cup of tea firmly. It was hot and uncomfortable, but not more than the sick feeling in his stomach. Every word his mother spoke made him feel more pathetic.
What had he been doing all those months while your mother was in hospital and when sheâd died? Preparing for his company to go public? Sitting in meetings and sucking up to corporate officials? Only to be fired and thrown out of the company. Only to have missed the death of somebody who had trusted him and cared for him.
âBut she couldnât have been that oldâŚâ Jinyoung muttered.
Mrs. Park shook her head softly. âSheâd always had a weak heart, Jinyoung. Her health was fragile and after her husband passed away she had no choice but to work to support her daughter. All those long hours and late nights for years⌠they took their toll in the end. She had her first stroke three years ago. She was in hospital for a few weeks and then she had the second one; the one that took her life.â
Jinyoung closed his eyes, remembering your mother in his mindâs eye.
âShe always looked tired. And worried.â
âShe was.â Mrs. Park reached out and placed a hand over her sonâs nervously. âIâm sorry, Jinyoung. I should have told you about it sooner. But you were always so busy in Seoul, always doing important things. It never seemed like the right time to tell you about something so devastating. Itâs my fault.â
Jinyoung let out a small scoff. âDonât take the blame on yourself. That doesnât help me.â
Mrs. Park looked upset. âJinyoung-â
She was interrupted by a loud knocking at the front door. Jinyoung closed his eyes and pressed his fingers to his temple while he listened to his father go to the door and yell at the person on the other side. The reporters had already found his home address. They had started arriving one-by-one since this morning. Each of them desperately wanted an interview with Park Jinyoung, the man who had lost his empire overnight. They wanted to know what he had to say about his dismissal from his own company.
Mr. Park re-entered the living room and sighed. âTheyâre getting more persistent. I think I should call the local police before they start trying to shove their way into our house.â
Jinyoung nodded and stood up. âIâll go down to the police station myself and ask them to send someone to deal with this harrassment. Mom, youâve told everyone we know to deny any reporters who request them for an interview, right?â
âYes, but is it really a good idea for you to be going outside now-â
âI think Iâll lose my mind if I stay indoors,â Jinyoung muttered. He grabbed the black hoodie that was slung over the back of the sofa and glanced at his parents. They were both looking at him with wide, worried eyes.
Jinyoung felt a sudden wave of guilt wash over him; why should they have to deal with so much because of his mistakes? Why was he always the one taking and yet never giving?
âIâm sorry,â he apologized softly. âIâll try and be back for dinner.â
------
Jinyoungâs legs carried him naturally towards the elementary school.
Perhaps it was a subconscious urge to see you, even though he had no idea what he would say if you really appeared before him. Anything Jinyoung could have said to help should have been said three years ago. Words like Iâm sorry seemed like an insensitive joke at this point; too little and far too late.
Jinyoung sat silently on the bench by the schoolyard with his face covered by his dark hoodie, and wondered how his life had brought him to this point.
Left with nothing with shame.
âAhjussi!â
By the time Jinyoung looked up, there was already a tiny figure running straight towards him at full speed. He flinched and braced himself for the impact; only to have the small boy stop centimetres away from him and throw his arms around him happily. Jinyoung stiffened.
âWhat-â
âAhjussi, you are Park Jinyoung!â Ki-woo cried delightedly. The boy was beaming. Jinyoung noticed for the first time that one of his front teeth was missing, but it was still one of the brightest smiles he had ever seen. âMiss told me yesterday! Why did you lie and say you weren't? I canât believe the King of the Playground walked me home after school and I didnât even know!â
Jinyoung couldnât resist a small smile. The sight of the little boy bouncing on his feet warmed him for a moment and he patted Ki-woo on the head. âIf somebody asked Clark Kent if he was Superman, he wouldnât say yes, now would he?â
Ki-wooâs eyes widened in understanding. âWow. Thatâs so true! Youâre so cool!â
âYouâll have to keep my secret.â
âOf course I will! Ahjussi, can you tell me how you did it? How did you manage to climb the oak tree?â Ki-woo demanded, grabbing Jinyoungâs arm and tugging on it eagerly. âYou have to tell me, you just have to! Were you really tall?â
Jinyoung blinked. âTall? Not particularlyâŚâ
âThen how? How did you do it?â
Jinyoung opened his mouth to respond but he was cut off by a loud yell. He had been so preoccupied with Ki-woo that he hadnât noticed the much larger man that was making his way across the school yard. Jackson Wang had a huge smile on his face and without greeting, he threw his arms around Jinyoung in a fierce hug.
âPark Jinyoung! Look who finally decided to grace us with his presence!â Jackson cried happily. He pulled back and noticed the blank look on Jinyoungâs face. With a frown, he pointed to himself eagerly. âRemember me? Jackson! Jackson Wang! You used to pass me all the answers in History class!â
Jinyoung swallowed. âUhâŚâ
âMr. Wang, youâre friends with Park Jinyoung?â Ki-woo asked, his mouth gaping open.
Jackson blinked and looked down at the boy sheepishly. âAh, Ki-woo. I didnât see you down there. Didnât your teacher tell you to wait inside until someone came to pick you up? Go back indoors now.â
Ki-woo pouted. âBut-â
âNope. Back inside. Now.â
Jackson waited until Ki-woo began to slouch back towards the school building and then turned back to Jinyoung. âMan, youâre pretty much the celebrity around these parts now, eh? We had a couple of reporters come by the school this morning, asking for anyone who used to know you. You have nothing to worry about! I scared them off. These babies arenât here for nothing,â Jackson beamed and flexed his bare bicep.
Jinyoung didnât really know how to respond. âNice.â
Jackson narrowed his eyes. âYou do remember me, right?â
âYeah, yeah, of course-â
âWe should get drinks sometime and catch up now that youâre back in town! Man, I really owe you. You did me a solid one that Christmas before you left, remember? Iâll buy you a couple of beers at the pub. Whatâs your phone number?â Jackson demanded.
âI donât really have a phone right nowâŚâ
âDonât have a phone?â Jackson looked confused. âWeird but okay. I guess I can always ask Miss First Grade to get in touch with you. I canât believe she didnât tell me you were back in town!â he cried, slapping Jinyoungâs arm playfully. âHold on⌠youâre here to see her, arenât you?â
Jinyoung cleared his throat. âNot exactlyâŚâ
Jackson chuckled knowingly. âNo worries, man. Iâve got your back. I need to go inside and take care of the kids now, so Iâll tell her to come out and meet you here, yeah? Let me know if any more of those reporters come around. Iâll take handle them for you!â
Jinyoung forced a smile. âThanks-â
âNo problem, man. Itâs what friends are for. Weâll catch up soon!â
âSure.â
Jinyoung watched Jackson half-run back to the school building, letting out a sigh of relief. Each person he came across in this town seemed to remember something about him and the one who possessed the most dangerous knowledge was Jackson Wang. In addition to having been the resident supplier of inappropriate magazines and the one whoâd convinced Jinyoung to try his first cigarette behind the park back in high school, Jackson simply knew a little too much about everybody.
Jinyoung sat down on the bench and took a deep breath. He just realized that Jackson had said he would send you out to meet him. Why hadnât he told him not to? He wasnât prepared to face you. Idiot.
It was a few minutes before you emerged from the school building and walked towards Jinyoung. There was a pleasant smile on your face as you approached, and it made Jinyoungâs stomach turn. How could you smile at him like that? How could you be so calm about everything?
âJinyoung,â you greeted him, confused. âShould you be roaming around out here? There are reporters buzzing all around town.â
Jinyoung cleared his throat. âUh. Yeah, I know. Jackson said he drove them away...â
You rolled your eyes. âThat idiot Jackson Wang? He was fully prepared to seize his five minutes of fame by telling them how you used to help him cheat in History class. I had to step in and force him to deny the request for an interview,â you muttered. Jinyoungâs eyes widened and you gave him a reassuring smile. âDonât worry. I sent a message to the principal of the middle school and the high school. Nobodyâs going to give any interviews about you.â
Jinyoung felt small.
âThanks,â he muttered.
âDid they find your house?â
âYeah. Theyâve been knocking the door all day. Itâs really starting to bother Mom and Dad.â
Your expression was sympathetic. âShould I call the police?â
âDonât worry. I was going to go down to the station myself and ask them to send someone to get rid of the reporters,â Jinyoung reassured you. He felt his heartbeat thump wildly as he looked at your gently smiling face. Should he say it? Should he talk about the elephant in the room? Even though he hadnât prepared what to say?
âAbout⌠about last nightâŚâ
You blinked. âYeah?â
He sighed. âAbout your mother. Iâm sorry. I didnât know. I know thatâs no excuse, but I should have been there and-â
You cut him off with a forced smile. âJinyoung. Itâs okay. Itâs not like you could have done anything for her even if you were here, youâre not a doctor. Everyone did the best they could.â
Jinyoung swallowed. âI might not have been able to help her. But⌠I should have been there for you.â
The smile dropped from your face. What could you say? Jinyoungâs eyes were filled with shame but it wasnât the right time for him to be offering condolences. That time had long passed.
But you still remembered his words from last night as heâd hugged you. I donât feel as alone when Iâm here. Jinyoung had been through so much. How could you say anything to such a broken man except for itâs okay? How could you offer him anything but comfort when he had nobody but you?
How could you not be the bigger person when he was suffering?
âItâs fine, Jinyoung,â you promised him softly. âYou donât need to worry about it.â
âHow can I not-â
âSeriously. Please. Itâs in the past and nobody was to blame. It happened around the time your company was going public, so I can only imagine how chaotic your life and work must have been back then. I donât resent you.â
Jinyoung looked up at you in disbelief. âHow can you not?â
âI just⌠donât. Itâs fine.â
âDo you really mean that? Do you really mean that?â he demanded.
âI do,â you insisted firmly. You glanced at your watch and sighed. âWow, itâs getting late. We have a PTA fundraiser at school tonight so I need to start setting up. Oh! Did you bring my bicycle by any chance?â you asked him hopefully.
Jinyoung shook his head. âUh, no. The reporters were in front of my house so I slipped out through the backâŚâ
âCan you drop it by the school later? Iâm going to staying back pretty late because I have to wrap up after the event is over. It might even take till midnight and the buses stop running at 9 so I need a way to get home. Itâs not too much trouble, is it?â
âNo, thatâs fine. Iâll drop it off here later.â
You gave him a small smile as you turned to go back indoors. âBye, Jinyoung.â
âBye.â
---------------------------
The PTA fundraiser left you drained of energy.
You would much rather have dealt with a hundred kids at once than with a handful of parents. At least kids could be made to see reason, they could be convinced with a little bit of logic (however flawed). Adults, on the other hand, believed that they knew best and that things had to be done exactly the way they wanted. Adults were unreasonable. Adults liked to throw around their authority.
You had never wanted to get into bed so badly.
You stayed back late to clean up after the fundraiser was over. It wasnât required of you, but it was something that you somehow ended up volunteering to do. All the other teachers had families to go home to and kids to take care of. You only had an empty apartment.
Asking them to stay back instead of you felt selfish.
You slung your bag over your shoulder and trudged out into the parking lot to see that the bicycle racks were empty. Shit. Had Jinyoung forgotten to leave the bicycle behind for you? Where was he?
You pulled out your cell phone and then sighed. Damn Park Jinyoung. He didnât even have a stupid phone. It was far past the time that Mr. and Mrs. Park would have gone to bed and you didn't want to wake them by calling them. But your apartment was too far to walk and you would have to pass by the pub; you had no interest in meeting the townâs drunkards alone in those narrow alleys  at midnight.
You sighed and dialled another number.
âJackson, hey. Iâm so sorry, I know you just left a little while ago, butâŚâ
-------------------
It was 1am when you heard a loud banging on your front door.
You had just finished taking a shower and were getting ready to slip into bed when the noise began. Your heartbeat racing, you grabbed hold of a kitchen knife quickly and then slowly approached your door.
âWhoâs there?â you yelled out, voice shaking.
The voice that replied was muffled. âJinyoung!â
Jinyoung? At this time of night?
You opened the door carefully. The first thing that hit you was the awful smell; Jinyoung stank of sweat and cheap beer. His eyes were red and his face flushed as he looked at you almost wildly.
âAre you okay?â he demanded, grabbing your shoulders to look at you properly. His hands were trembling and he seemed unaware of how loud his voice was. âAre you all right? I was looking for you everywhere!â
You raised an eyebrow at him. âWow, youâre drunk.â
Jinyoungâs eyes widened. âIâm sorry- Iâm so, so, sorry-â
âHow about you come inside before you bring my neighbours running over with all of your noise?â you snapped. You had little patience for drunks, and knowing that Jinyoung had been out getting drunk instead of returning your bicycle did not please you. âWhere have you been?â
Jinyoung stared at you helplessly, his arms waving around as he spoke. âI-I was just going to get one drink, I swear. But it led to another and I totally forgot about your bike and I was so scared that you might have walked home because I know that path passes by the pub and itâs not safe-â
âRelax,â you told Jinyoung as you guided him gently towards your couch. âI didn't walk. I called Jackson, he drove me home.â
âJackson? Wang? Why? Are you guys close?â he asked, plopping down heavily on the couch.
You shrugged. âHeâs a good friend.â
Jinyoung paused for a moment and then hung his head quietly.
âWe used to be good friends.â
You looked down at Jinyoung properly. He was a wreck. His dark hair was a tangled mess and the light blue dress shirt he was wearing was wrinkled with a beer stain on it. There were even large sweat stains under his arms; heâd probably cycled all the way here in a panic.
And heâs one of the Most Eligible Bachelors under 40. If only the magazine had seen him like this.
âWeâre still friends,â you told him lightly. âAlthough it wouldnât do any harm to return my bicycle when I ask for it. Do you want a glass of water?â
Jinyoung blinked at you dazedly. âDo you have beer?â
âAbsolutely not. Havenât you had enough?â
His lower lip pouted slightly as he stared down at the floor. âIâve been drinking all evening but I havenât reached the point where I feel good or forget about my problems yet. In fact, I keep thinking about them even more. How about a cigarette?â
âYou will not smoke in my house,â you told him with a firm glare.
To your surprise, Jinyoung suddenly smiled. It was only a gentle curve of his lips but you spotted it and frowned at him with your arms folded across your chest. âAre you feeling proud of yourself right now? Do you think your behaviour is something to laugh about?â you demanded.
Jinyoung looked up at you softly. âNo.â
âThen why are you-â
âBecause this is the first time youâve given me that look since I came back,â Jinyoung admitted quietly. His voice trembled. âThis is the first time you got angry at me. You donât seem to get angry at me anymore.â
You didnât understand. âWhy would you want me to be angry at you-â
âBecause you have to be angry with someone before you can forgive them. You have to first admit that they hurt you or that they did something wrong, and only then can you begin to repair your relationship,â Jinyoung whispered. He looked up at you and you could see the tears brimming in his eyes. âSo tell me honestly. Have you forgiven me already?â
You swallowed. âI was never mad at you to begin with-â
âYouâre lying.â
You clenched your fists as your heartbeat thudded. âIâm not lying. Youâre drunk. You should drink some water and you can sleep on the couch-â
Jinyoung looked up at you, his eyes bloodshot yet surprisingly clear. âYou are lying. Either youâre lying or youâre not the same girl I remember.â
âWhy would you say that?â
âBecause the girl I knew wouldnât have pretended to forgive a friend to spare his feelings. She would have grabbed me by the shirt, looked me in the eye, and said Park Jinyoung, youâre an absolute bastard for leaving me here when I was having a hard time. She wouldnât have spared my feelings. She would have expected me to be there for her because thatâs what friends do. They count on each other.â
You closed your eyes. How had Jinyoung seen right through you? Even after 10 years, how could he see through you like you were made of glass?
âIâm not angry,â you tried to tell him slowly, even though you werenât sure who you were convincing anymore. âBecause I never expected you to be there. You were busy and I had no expectations-â
Jinyoung scoffed. âYouâre lying again.â
âIâm not-â
âYou are. Friendship is when you help someone, because you trust that they would do the same for you. What youâre doing for me isnât friendship. You donât trust me anymore. If you have no expectations from me, then thatâs charity!â Jinyoung spat out. Tears were brimming in his eyes and his voice was choked. âIs that what I am to you? Charity?â
You clenched your fists and let out a small, humourless laugh. âI canât believe Iâm hearing this.â
âWhat?â
âWhere the fuck do you get off accusing me of treating you like charity? After what you did?â you snapped.
Jinyoung stared at you blankly. âTell me.â
Your throat closed up. You didnât want to talk about it. You didnât want to drag yourself back to what had been the lowest point of your life, especially not in front of Jinyoung. You didnât know who he was to you anymore. How could you open up to him?
âI canât,â you muttered. âI donât want to talk about it, Jinyoung.â
âPlease,â Jinyoung whispered. âPlease. At least tell me I was a terrible friend for not being there. Tell me I was a terrible friend for not even knowing about your mother.â
You took a deep breath and sat down, your knees feeling weak. You had never imagined that you would have to sit next to Jinyoung and say these words to him while he was drunk. Yet, as his dark eyes pierced into yours, he looked more sober than ever.
âIt was my fault she died,â you whispered, shakily. âI know how hard my Mom worked to raise me. I know how much she struggled after my Dad passed away. The doctor told me her heart attack was probably caused by stress- years of it. She was growing old but sheâd never even gone for a health check-up because we couldnât afford it.â
Jinyoung stared at you silently.
âI needed someone to say this to back then,â you admitted quietly. âI needed someone who would listen to me and who wouldnât try to convince me that it wasnât my fault or that I didn't do anything wrong. Thatâs what everyone kept doing. They kept trying to comfort me but I just wanted someone who would listen. I wanted you,â you mumbled.
Jinyoung only nodded. His hands reached out to take both of yours. He grasped them tightly.
âI knew you were busy, but I always had this hope that maybe you would come to the funeral,â you whispered. âI thought⌠surely, whatever I did to make you cut me off, it wasnât so bad that you wouldn't even turn up to my motherâs funeral. But the truth was that I couldnât grieve properly because the hospital was hounding me about the bills, IâŚâ
You took a deep breath. You hated thinking about those moments. You had felt so helpless and alone, backed into a corner. âI donât think it even sank in that my mother was dead until a few days later,â you mumbled. â I spent the first day wondering how the hell I was going to pay the hospital bills instead of thinking about her. Your mother tried comforting me, she told me it would all be fine and that she would call you for help.â
Jinyoung closed his eyes; tears were clinging to his eyelashes.
âShe did,â he mumbled.
You felt the walls around you come crashing down as you looked at the broken man in front of you. You remembered how badly youâd wanted to see him then, how much youâd craved his comfort. You remembered how furious you had been when you realized that Jinyoung had abandoned you.
âI thought you would call,â you mumbled. âI didnât want to disturb you but at the same time I trusted that you wouldnât leave me alone at a time like that.â
Jinyoungâs voice was soft. âIâm sorry.â
âIt would have been better if you hadn't done anything at all,â you mumbled. âMaybe then I could have forgotten about it in the mess that I was going through. But you didnât. I got a call from your secretary the night before the funeral.â
Jinyoung lowered his head. His hands were trembling even as they held yours and you could hear his soft sniffle. âShit,â he muttered, his voice thick with tears. âShit, I canât believe-â
âI thought youâd finally called. But it wasnât you. I had to hear some strange woman tell me over the phone that Park Jinyoung is sorry he canât make it to the funeral but he sends his condolences,â you choked out. You smiled humorlessly. âAs if I was some distance acquaintance you barely knew. You sent me your condolences through your secretary.â
âI didnât- I didnât know it was youâŚâ
âAnd then she told me that if I would just email her a copy of the hospital and funeral bills then all the expenses would be taken care of,â you mumbled. âShe said that she could send me as much as I needed, no limit. I was so embarrassed. I wanted-I wanted to tell her that you could go fuck yourself and that I didnât want your condolences and your money. I wanted to refuse so badly, butâŚâ
You hung your head in shame. âBut I couldnât,â you whispered. âI couldnât say that to her because it was true. I had no other way of paying those bills. So I sent her the details and I let you pay for them. Whether you know it or not, you paid for all my motherâs hospital bills and funeral while I sat here and wondered how I had become such a worthless daughter.â
Jinyoungâs hands clasped yours so tightly that it hurt. His shoulders were shaking and you could see the sobs racking his chest. âI didnât mean to-â he sobbed. Jinyoungâs tears landed on your clasped hands. âI didnât mean to, I swearâŚâ
You slowly removed your hands from his. âI have the accounts,â you muttered. âIâve been saving up to pay you back. It might take me a few more years but-â
Jinyoung flinched. âDonât say that.â
âItâs not open to discussion, Jinyoung.â
âDonât say youâll pay me back, please-â
âI will pay you back,â you said firmly. You took a deep breath. âYou know why? Because I might be able to forgive you for not being there when I needed you. But I will never, never forget how cheap I felt the moment I ended that phone call. So donât talk to me about charity; I know how it feels to be on the other end of it.â
Jinyoung closed his eyes. He felt light-headed and blank as he thought about everything youâd said. No wonder you didnât consider him a friend. No wonder you couldn't bring yourself to be honest with him. No wonder there was something fake and forced about your every smile.
Jinyoung hadnât just messed up.
He had destroyed something precious to him without even realizing it.
âItâs late,â you mumbled after a brief silence. âYou should go to sleep. Here, just; make yourself comfortable on the couch and Iâll get you a blanket and some pillows.â
Jinyoung swallowed. âI-I canâtâŚâ
âYouâre not going anywhere at this time of night while youâre drunk,â you told him. You pushed him lightly so that he leaned back against the sofa. âStay put. Iâll be back. I think weâve talked enough for tonight.â
âCan you just promise me one thing?â Jinyoung asked quietly.
âWhatâs that?â
âEven if you donât consider me your friend anymore, even if youâre just being nice to me because youâre that kind of a caring person⌠donât give up on me completely.â Jinyoung looked up at you desperately. âPlease. Tell me that I can fix things. Tell me I havenât broken our friendship and my life beyond repair.â
You looked down at him. Lying on your couch in his crumpled dress shirt and the beer stains, Jinyoung looked pathetic. Perhaps it was because youâd finally let out all the resentment youâd been bottling up for so long. Perhaps it was because, looking into Jinyoungâs eyes now, you could see that he did care. But you suddenly didnât feel so hollow anymore.
You didnât feel so lonely in your pain.
âEverything can be fixed, Jinyoung,â you told him softly.
âEven us?â he mumbled.
You nodded. âEven us.â
âEven me?â
âEspecially you.â
Jinyoung slowly closed his eyes and you went into the other room to get him a spare pillow and a blanket. He let you place the pillow under his head and snuggled into the soft blanket. You turned to switch off the light when you heard him mumble.
âYou know something?â
âWhat, Jinyoung?â
âI thought that the most unbearable thing about being fired from the company was all the effort Iâd put into it. I thought I couldnât bear it because Iâd done so much for it for the years,â he said slowly.
You blinked at his curled up figure under the blanket.
âBut itâs not?â you asked.
Jinyoung shook his head. âItâs not how much Iâve done for the company that I canât bear. Itâs how much I sacrificed for it.â

{{ Book Talk: The Boy Who Sneaks in My Bedroom Window
This question on Goodreads sums up my thoughts.
I donât know what to say about this book or why I started to read it. I just did when I was looking for The Raven Cycle âcause I have a ridiculous crush on a character I donât even know yet. Ronan.
Anyway, this fucking book. I thought it was like, fanfiction at first. It is certainly written that way. There is such a huge overuse of âhe smirked/smirksâ and âshe smirked/smirksâ and other cliche phrases, Iâm going to throw up. Thereâs also an over abundance of the main character, Amber Something, calling other girls whores and sluts and basically slut shaming them for dressing how they want to dress--FOR WHICH THERE IS NO DRESS CODE AT SCHOOL, I GUESS. One of the instances of Amber describing a girlâs skirt was that it fit like a belt or something. Another instance is her putting down other girls for being loose, for wanting to have sex with her brother and his best friend. For being bimbos and hoâs and having no self-respect because apparently this author wrote every fucking woman in her school like this. EVERY WOMAN AT AMBERâS SCHOOL (EXCEPT FOR AMBER) WAS A THIRSTY SLUT OR A BITCH OR A HO after her brother and his best friendâs junk. They literally threw themselves at them, were incredibly bold with their flirtations like touching and grabbing them all the time. Like, these ladies were written desperately thirsty, I felt bad for them. All because the author wanted to portray Amber in a more angelic light or what?
Speaking of, her main love interest gave her the nickname Angel.
Oh, by the way. She slut shames her main love interest, Liam James, too. I only know his goddamn name because everyone calls him by his fucking whole name, like constantly. Donât get me wrong, I guess heâs some sort of man-whore because he openly flirts with these girls right back so I suppose if sheâs going to be calling the women sluts and whores, Iâm glad she also calls Liam out for acting the same way??? So does Amberâs brother, Jake, and heâs known to have slept around, etc, etc. Basically everyone but Amber is a big olâ slut.
Donât even get me started on how Amber decides to take part of this stupid ass bet to ânailâ Liam because he announced he had a girlfriend and ALL THE OTHER GIRLS IN SCHOOL WANT HIM. His fucking pot was raised to 4,000 dollars or something outrageous like that. 20 bucks per girl. They put in 20 dollars EACH into the pot to see who can convince him to virtually cheat on his girlfriend. Which, at this point, is Amber. 4000 dollars. 20per girl. i suck at doing math but is that like 200 girls??? IS THAT RIGHT? DID I DO MY MATHR IGHT? 200 GIRLS ARE AFTER LIAMâS ASS.
I honestly donât know where to start with this.
I mean, I can start with how it feels incredibly juvenile. Amateurish. Half-finished? There seems to be a lot of details missing in between scenes and the scenes themselves are short as fuck. The transitions are incredibly sloppy, one second Amber is in her bathroom and the next sheâs in school.
Can I also note how her eight year old dialogue was incredibly strange. It felt like an older person was talking.
A few more points:
1) she doesnât want to tell anyone theyâre dating. she makes liam wait like 2 weeks to break the news to her overprotective big brother (by two years because theyâre both 18 and sheâs 16).
2) her best friend magically finds this out because i guess she just does. and all of a sudden she went from thirsty ass bff to supportive ass bff and stops trying to nail Liam AND jake. wait no, sheâs still trying to fuck amberâs brother.
3) sheâs somehow emo. idk. she wears dark clothing and all the other âslutsâ at school call her emo. and how liam will never be into her.
4) liam went from biggest fucking vagina humper to absolutely cult-like dedicated to amber like as soon as they shared their first kiss. i guess thatâs sort of sweet if he werenât a total fuckboy. he said he had been in love with her since he was six??? (which was make her 4 or something) and only slept around with all those women because he figured heâd just fall in love with someone else. he couldnât have a chance with her because her brother forbid it.
5) brother eventually finds out and comes around like in a manner of minutes. found out because liam and amber have some sort of special technique he uses whenever amber has some sort of anxiety attack about her dad.
6) SPEAKING OF, HER DAD ALMOST RAPED HER when she was like 13.. or idk. something like that. sundays were usually reserved for âspecialâ times when heâd touch her or whatever. basically dad is an abusive assfuck. jake and liam came home early from some kind of hockey game, saw the scene and apparently beat the shit out of the dad.
7) dont even know the extent of how far she was molested because she never fucking talked about it. im opting to believe it was that one instance and she was just milking it. idk.Â
8) for as much as she went around in the first few chapters of the book saying how much she hated liam, how much she called him a man-slut, etc etc and being mean to him because oh he annoys her sooo much, heâs sooo mean, etc etc, sheâs absolutely in love with him even though sheâs finding reasons ...not to be. thinking he might cheat on her, get fed up with amber wanting to wait because sheâs not letting him have sex yet. mainly because no one else but her mom, jake, and liam can touch her, ever, without her freaking out about it. but in the span of these few chapters ive read, two strangers have kissed her twice now.Â
8a) first time, liam had to save her because she was drunk and blah blah blah. second time, she was openly flirting with a guy who was all, âi bet if i kiss you i can change your mind about wanting to go out with meâ and she was all âi bet you 20 bucks you canât and also i will kick you in the balls if you tryâ and what the fuck happened? he kissed her. she kicked him in the balls. liamâs like âthatâs my girlâ as the dude comes back limping into the room and hands her a 20.
9)Â âIâd wanted her for so long that I was a little worried that if I ever did get her, that she would never be able to live up to what I had imagined.â CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT THIS MEANS because to me, Liam saying this about Amber makes me feel like this can almost be an insult lmfao.
10) AND THIS IS THE SEX SCENE, FINALLY BTW:
âYou are so beautiful, Angel,â I whispered. She smiled and gripped her hand around the back of my head, guiding my mouth back to hers. I felt my heart swell as I kissed her passionately, showing her just how much I loved and cherished her before I prepared myself to make love to her for the first time.
I smoothed her hair away from her sweaty forehead. She was grinning at me and looked so happy it made my heart skip a beat. âI love you, Angel.â We laid there trying to slow our heart beats. I pressed my face into the crook of her neck kissing her, feeling her rapid pulse under my lips. I felt happier than I had ever felt in my life. After a minute or so, I pulled out of her and rolled to my side. I tightened my arms on her, pulling her close to me, trailing my fingers over her naked, sweaty body, lingering on her breasts. âIâm sorry I hurt you,â I said quietly. I felt awful that I was the one to have to cause her pain, but I guess every girl had to go through that the first time.
Did this author really write âafter a minute or soâ? I was like, whereâs the penetration? I had NO idea they were fucking until he pulled out... A MINUTE LATER.
11) everyone must be a goddamn cat or something because thereâs a lot of seductive purring. and I ran into this hilarious count in a review:
Wink count: 48
Purr count: 37
Smirk count: 74
Flirt count: 38
Ass count: 91 (this one was the most annoying...everyone calls each other "hot ass" "sexy ass" "fine ass" nonstop throughout the entire book)
there is plenty more i can say about this train wreck but i think, above all, i was just... surprised it was like... PEOPLE LIKED THIS?? it even had this little thing at the end of the summary:
The international bestselling novel, and finalist of the Goodreads choice awards YA fiction 2012.
like... what... how can people pump out novels like 50 Shades and this mess and I canât fucking finish a chaptered story? some of the answers answering that question i had tacked on above surprised me too. people were calling it ârealisticâ -- i had to roll my eyes. there has been no realistic part of this story since i started reading it.Â
if it were, vampires would exist and theyâd sparkle in the goddamn sunlight. frankly, weâd all have our Christian Grey by now, too.
and every time he called her Angel, i just imagined this:
youtube
thank you and goodnight.

Chapter 31 â Calm after the Storm
-Lestâs POV-
After the battle, Kane managed to find us in the castle after he had gone to the cave to escort the Guardians out safely. Frey explained everything to us, about how the Guardianâs corruption could affect even Venti, and we also told everyone about our relation to Ethelberd and Halwell. The news was a surprise to them as much as it was a surprise to me. After all, we donât even look like the Sechs emperors by the outside and inside.
Two weeks have passed since that day. I canât tell whether the corruption is completely gone or not, but all I can tell is that Venti is doing a lot better than when the corruption was still at large. Frey isnât staying in the castle with us anymore, but she still visits us at least once every two days. She still has duties to attend back in the capital, so she canât stay longer than a few hours.
Iâm starting to feel that she is a close sister to me, but on the other side I can still tell that sheâs not telling us everything. None of the Guardians or Kane actually paid attention to Freyâs wound back then, expect for Dolly and Pico. She looked like she was aware of something about Frey, but for some reason, sheâs keeping it from me. I canât actually force her to talk about it, but the fact that sheâs hiding something from me is bothering me somehow. Why canât you just talk to me about it if itâs actually bothering you?
-Third Person POV-
âSweetie, will you stop staring at me?â the sound of his wife snapped Lest out of his trains of thought, realizing that Dolce was standing in front of him.
âOh, sorry,â Lest shook his head to make sure that he was completely awake before putting his hoe over his shoulder, âWell, Iâll be working in the fields for the time being so let Frey know when she drops by to visit.â
âI will,â Dolce nodded before giving him a peck on the cheek, âWork hard, okay?â
Dolce watched as Lest left for the fields before Pico popped in front of her, âAre you sure about this, Dolly? Shouldnât you say something about it to him?â
âNo,â Pico followed Dolce closely as the two of them headed for the kitchen, âI need to be certain about the facts first. What weâre thinking now is just the conclusion we come into after we looked at her wound.â
âYouâre scared, arenât you milady?â Picoâs words made the Guardian stop her activity, âYou know how it feels to lose a family⌠well, both of us do.â
Dolce let out a sigh as she turned to Pico with a frown, âHeâll know the truth sooner or later. I donât want him to think that Iâm hiding everything from him.â
Pico let out a sigh and smiled, âI think youâre worrying too much, Dolly. A bit more than usual, I guess,â Pico watched her friend working in the kitchen, âI guess I can see how much your love for Lest had changed my Dolly!â
A blush appeared on the Guardianâs face as she continued cooking, âS-Shut up!â
Lest let out a tired sigh before he admired his handiwork on the field, which was completely clean of garbage from the storm two weeks earlier. Crop seeds were planted on the tilled field and they had already been watered. His job on the field was finished and it was time for him to do his work in town.
Just as Lest was putting down his tools at the edge of the field, a scroll fell out from his pocket. He picked up the fallen scroll and the emblem of the Sechs Empire was visible on the scrollâs paper. A frown came to his face as he remembered the scrollâs contents when it was first given to him.
-Flashback-
âSoâŚâ Lest spoke up to Arthur and Kane as the three of them were in Arthurâs office, âThe empire is requesting me to be the acting emperor?â
âYes,â Kane nodded as he rolled the scroll he was holding and handed it over to Lest, âLord Halwell still hasnât awakened after a week of recovery even after getting help from the best doctors.â
Arthur turned to Lest, âIt would be sad to see you go, but I will not force you to go if you wish to stay.â
Lest turned back to Kane, but stared at him for a moment before speaking up, âIâm sorry, I canât.â
âNo, I understand,â Kane responded with a smile, âThe higher ups only requested for you because of your relation to Lord Ethelberd, but they never forced me to take you back.â
âSpeaking of which,â Arthur interrupted, getting Kaneâs attention, âHow is the empire doing currently?â
âMuch better than when everyone was corrupted, thatâs for sure,â Kane replied with a shrug, âEveryone remembers what happened, but they donât really know why it happened. Other than that, the corruption in the empire seems to have disappeared without a trace.â
âI see,â Arthur nodded in understanding, âIf there is anything else we can do to help, please let us know.â
âOf course,â Kane nodded, âMy main purpose for coming here is to deliver the scroll, but Iâll tell the higher ups that you canât take Lord Halwellâs place.â
âOkay, Iâll see you later,â Lest waved the soldier goodbye as he left the office.
-End of Flashback-
âThe acting emperor?â Ventuswill asked as Lest showed her the scroll in the dragon room, âHey, I guess Iâm right about you being royalty after all!â
Lest let out a laugh, âDonât be too proud on it, Venti. You need to remember who my father was.â
âI know,â Ventuswill paused for a moment as she stared at the wall, âSpeaking of Ethelberd, I think I recall hearing something when I was still in the forest. I know that I recognize that voice, now I remember that it was him.â
âWait,â Lest looked at the dragon god in surprise, âYou met him in the Forest of Beginnings?â
âNot exactly meeting in person, though,â Ventuswill put her claw under her jaw as she tried recalling the encounter, âI can only hear his voice saying that he wonât surrender until all Earthmates perish.â
âCan he still be alive in there? And corrupting people into doing things they shouldnât do?â Lest asked.
âNo, Â that wonât be possible,â Ventuswill shook her head, âHumans canât stay and live in there for a long period of time. If a person stays there for longer than they should have, their body will soon break into runes. Even so, the soul would still remain in there forever unless thereâs a special case that theyâre resurrected.â
âJust like what happened to you,â Lest added, âBut if his soul is still there, can he do any harm to the world?â
âHmâŚâ Ventuswill went back to her thoughts, but nothing came into her mind, âIâm not sure, but I think itâs very unlikely.â
âI hope soâŚâ Lest let out a sigh, âThis corruption thing just happens to come and go without a reason and a trace. I just wish that thereâs a clue somewhere so that we can prevent it in the futureâŚâ
âAnd then, he ran around the house in panic while yelling that there was a deadly scorpion in the house!â Frey and Pico broke out into laughter while Dolce simply chuckled as she sipped on her tea.
The three girls were hanging around at the castleâs balcony with Frey telling stories about the siblingsâ daily lives in the past. Two plates of flan were sitting on the table untouched as the three were busy talking. Pico was completely taken into the conversation, but Dolce had noticed that her guest hadnât touched either her tea or her flan.
There was a single question she had been meaning to ask Frey and her observation prompted her to pop the question right away, âBefore we hear more of those stories, thereâs something Iâve been meaning to ask you.â
âSure, we can talk while you have your flan,â Frey responded as she simply looked at her share of flan.
âOkay,â Dolce took her share of flan, but the scent of her favorite meal suddenly made her feel weird in the stomach, âUghâŚâ
âAre you okay Dolly?â Pico saw as Dolce put a hand on her mouth before shaking her head.
âIâm fineâŚâ Dolce uncovered her mouth before taking a spoonful of flan, only have the weird feeling on her stomach come back, âNot againâŚâ
âAre you sure youâre okay?â Frey asked worriedly as she took the flan from Dolceâs hands, âYou look kind of pale.â
âIâm⌠okay⌠ughâŚâ Dolce quickly rose from her seat and ran inside, heading straight towards the bathroom.
âIs she sick or something?â Frey turned to Pico.
âThat would be my best guessâŚâ Pico turned to the barely touched desserts, âDolly really loves sweets like flan and cakes, but sheâs been avoiding them for the past week for some reason.â
âHmâŚâ Frey tapped her chin as she was thinking, âI donât think sheâs suddenly become bored of eating her favorite dishesâŚâ
âThatâs impossible. Thereâs no way sheâs going to give up on her all-you-can-eat cake routine every-â Pico was silenced with a single talisman landing over her mouth.
âYouâre saying too much,â Dolce had just returned from the bathroom, but her face told the other two that she wasnât feeling that much different than before, âSorry for that interruption.â
âI donât mind, but I donât think you look well at all,â Frey replied worriedly, âIâll tell Lest about your condition when I see him, so why donât you two just stay home until he gets back?â
Dolce let out a defeated sigh, âThat⌠might be the bestâŚâ
Lest let out a tired sigh as he pushed the castle door open while carrying an extra paper bag with him. With Dolce taking her temporary leave from her evening shift, he decided that it might be best for them to eat dinner at home to let her rest at home. With the ingredients in the paper bag put in the kitchen, Lest left for his room to check on Dolce.
Lest had expected the female Guardian to be asleep with Pico watching over her, the scene he saw was Dolce knitting on the bed with a terrified Pico at the edge of the bed, âIâm⌠homeâŚ?â
âOh, welcome back Sweetie,â Dolce put her knitting aside and greeted Lest with a smile as she approached her, âHow was work today?â
âMore or less the usual, I guessâŚâ Lestâs attention was focused on Pico as he let Dolce took his backpack off him, âMore importantly, what happened to Pico?â
âJust a simple argument between us,â Dolce replied, completely ignoring the fact that Pico was still in the room, âAre you going to prepare dinner tonight?â
âYeah,â Lest nodded, âI was planning to make your favorite cake today, so-â
âI want⌠something else, if thatâs okayâŚâ the attention of the other two in the room shifted to her, âI want⌠some fried veggiesâŚâ
The room became completely silent with Pico hovering in front of her with the look of disbelief, âDid I hear that right? Dolly, you never liked eating any kind of vegetables!â
âIâm kind of surprised too,â Lest added, âBut if thatâs what you want, I guess I need to head out to buy the missing ingredientsâŚâ
âAlright,â Dolce nodded, âSorry for the trouble.â
The two watched as Lest left before Pico turned back to Dolce, âAre you sure youâre fine milady? Do you need Jones to check your condition?â
âIâm perfectly fine,â Dolce let out a sigh before she went back to her knitting, âYouâre being a lot more stubborn today. Do you want to be wrapped in talismans again?â

As Destiny Has Its Eyes On You Chapter 8/?
All the thanks to @artistic-writer for making this lovely pic.
Summary:
Princess Emma Swan of Misthaven has been prophesied as the Savior since before her birth. Now with the help of a Lieutenant from her past she is going to take her destiny into her own hands, to defeat the Evil Queen.
A/N:
This story is inspired by âDestiny has its eyes on youâ by the lovely @seriouslyhooked (EmilyBea on FF). With the overwhelming support and love from EmilyBea and @ilovemesomekillianjones (who has graciously agreed to be my beta on this entire project, she can also be found on: AO3, and FF), I am presenting this to the public.
This story is rated âMâ. I hope you enjoy, and if you havenât read the works from these lovely ladies, I highly recommend you do so. Chapters 1-4 are based on chapters 1&2 of âDestiny Has Its Eyes on Youâ
AO3  FF.net  Prologue/Chapter 1  Chapter 2  Chapter 3  Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7
Chapter 8
About a week after the attack Emma is lounging on one of the barrels near the helm.
âKillian?â
âYes my love?â
âWhat is the date?â
âWhat?â
âWhatâs the date? I know itâs November, but Iâm not sure the day.â
âI do believe itâs the thirteenth, why?â
Emmaâs eyes widen, without a word she gets up and heads to the stairs leading to their cabin.
âEmma, is everything okay?â When she continues below deck without answering, Killian has Smee take over and follows her to their quarters. Walking into the cabin he sees sheâs pacing and chewing on her bottom lip. âLove, is there significance to the thirteenth?â
She startles at his question. âWhat? No! Why?â
âWhen I told you the date you got quiet and pale, then proceeded to run to our cabin where you are currently pacing. Whatâs wrong? You know you can talk to me.â
âItâs not the thirteenth thatâs significant, other than being this far. Youâre sure itâs the thirteenth, not say the fifth by chance?â
âYes love, I double checked my chart, why? What is so wrong with it being the thirteenth? Whatâs so important about the fifth?â
She takes a couple shuddering breaths before sitting down on the bed. âKillian, you love me right? No matter what?â
Now heâs even more concerned for Emma, still not quite grasping whatâs going on. He sits next to her, and taking her hands in his, he looks straight into those beautiful, but worried emerald eyes of hers before he speaks. âNo matter what, good or bad, always and forever, I love you, Emma. Now what is going on? Iâm worried about you.â
âThe date of import is the sixth, itâs the day I always start my⌠you know... my monthly.â
He notices that Emma is blushing furiously as she speaks. Oh! Killian is stunned by this revelation, and Emma continues on before he has a chance to respond.
âWhich Iâm sure, due to our more enjoyable daily activities, youâve noticed I havenât had my monthly since being with you.â She lets that hang in the air between them for just a moment before continuing. âKillian, I think I know whatâs wrong with me. The fact that Iâm no longer intact makes it possible. Itâs a full week after the sixth, Iâm still getting sick almost a week after the attack, no one else is sick but me.â She finally looks him in the eye, still holding his hands. âIâm fairly certainâŚâ Emma pauses a moment to gather her courage before finally revealing her life altering realization. âIâm certain Iâm with child.â The tears that have been pooling in her eyes spill over, afraid of his reaction, terrified heâs going to push her away, even though rationally she knows he loves her, and would never do that to her. Damn hormones.
âEmma, youâre certain?â Sheâs too choked up to answer so she just nods. âDonât cry, my love. I know this wasnât something we had planned for, or even thought to take steps against for that matter. Nor is it something we had thought to talk about yet, but I think weâll make damn fine parents.â He smiles brightly before wrapping her in a hug, kissing her senseless. When they break apart for air, he looks her straight in the eye. âMarry me? Iâve wanted you to be mine since the day we met. I would follow you to the end of the world, or time, and I will do everything in my power to make you happy. My life without you was hollow and dark, and now that youâve come back into my life it feels like Iâm seeing the sun for the first time in years. I will love you and our child with every fiber of my being.â He pauses for a moment so he can get down on one knee, then taking her hands in his he asks her again, âSo, what do you say love? Will you marry me?â
Emma is stunned into silence, this is not the reaction she was expecting from him, though she really should have. When she notices the tips of his ears are pink from embarrassment and his smile starts to fade, sheâs able to find her voice again. Emma gets down on her knees with Killian, and gathers him up in the strongest hug she can muster. âI would love to be your wife, Killian! Iâve dreamt of it for years, but the crew thinks weâre already married.â
âWe can do a small ceremony for now, just you and me, under the stars, and do a larger, grander affair later if you want one. Maybe with your family thereâŚâ Killian helps Emma stand back up while theyâre still entangled in their embrace, and he perches them back on the edge of their bed.
Her smile falters a little at the thought of her family, but she responds nonetheless, âThat sounds perfect. When?â
âTonight, if youâre feeling well enough for it.â
âTonight then.â
With a quick kiss he gets up and walks over to his hidden floor safe, opening it up, he pulls out the simple jewelry box he keeps in there. He is looking for something that he has held on to, hoping for just such an occasion. His motherâs ring. Itâs a beautiful silver band woven to resemble interlocked vines with a gorgeous two carat stone the same shade of blue as his eyes, the eyes his mother passed on to him and Liam. Sitting next to his motherâs ring is Liamâs ring, the last piece he has of his brother. He has never been able to bring himself to wear it, now it seems meant for this moment. Itâs a large silver ring with a rather large emerald set flush in the band, the stone matching Emmaâs eyes perfectly. How fitting. The stone in my ring will remind me of Emmaâs eyes every time I look at it, and the stone in Emmaâs will remind her of my eyes. ⌠Hopefully. Killian takes out the two rings, then places the jewelry box back in the safe and closes it back up before walking over to Emma, whoâs still sitting on the bed.
âSo what do you think my love? Will they work?â He hands her the two rings to look at.
âTheyâre perfect. I can tell theyâre well loved, who did they belong to?â
âYours was my motherâs ring, passed to Liam when she died, then to me when he died. Mine⌠used to be Liamâs, I got it when he died.â
âOh Killian, Iâm sorry. If itâs too painful you donât have to wear it.â
âI actually think he would like me wearing it like this, I know he would approve. He always liked you.â
âSo, weâre really going to do this?â
âOnly if you want to Emma, Iâve said before, I want you to be happy, and I will do anything in my power to ensure it. Do not mistake my words though, it would make me the happiest man alive to call myself your husband, and you my wife. But Iâve no wish to hurt you, or sully your reputation-â
Emma quickly cuts him off. âNO! I do want this; I think I always have. Granted this isnât how I imagined it coming about, but it doesnât change how I feel about you, or the fact that I want to be your wife. I want to be able to claim you as mine, and mine alone, as much as I am already yours and only ever was yours.â
âââ
Much Later That Night
Killian and Smee are the only people on deck, having dismissed the night crew from their watch a few hours early, which Smee will finish for them after the ceremony is completed. Smee is to act as their witness and officiant even though technically the Captain is the one with the power to perform marriages. Killianâs nerves and excitement are rearing their head in the form of him pacing.
âSir if I may. If you keep pacing youâre liable to walk through the deck.â Killian just gives him an unamused look. âI must admit sir, I never thought this day would come. I am glad though. She makes you happy. We are all happy for you, both of you.â
âThank you Mr. Smee. All it took was finding the right woman, and she is the right woman. There is no one her equal, she exceeds every standard. She is the standard. Now we just have to hope the in-laws take the news well. But you and the crew should not expect any change in your Captain, just because I have found my Emma again.â
âNever sir, we would never try to take advantage like that.â
âI know you wouldnât Smee, but Murdoch and Walsh definitely didâŚâ
âHave you decided what to do about them yet?â
âI⌠no punishment I come up with feels like it fits their crime.â
âIâm sure you will come up with something sir, and they will be more than deserving of it. Is the Princess feeling better after that traumatic situation?â
âShe seems to have put it past her completely.â
âI am very glad to hear it, sir.â
âââ
Emma is putting on one of the two dresses she thought to bring, itâs her first time wearing a dress since her birthday. Sheâs thankful she thought to grab this dress and bring it with her, itâs perfect for tonight, she thinks. Itâs a beautiful silvery grey, silk off-the-shoulder dress, form fitting, hugging her curves in all the right places, hinting at just the right amount of cleavage, while still being comfortable. Killian wonât know what hit him. Emma smiles thinking about Killian, and what tonight means for both of them. The three of us, she thinks happily. Wondering how long it will be before she starts showing, she rests both hands on her still flat belly, and takes a deep breath, âWell, I guess itâs time.â
She smiles as she exits the cabin to head for the stairs and her future. Both men turn hearing her approach, theyâre stunned when they catch sight of her as she ascends the stairs up onto the deck. Killian strides over to escort her across the last expanse behind the helm where theyâll become husband and wife.
âYou look radiant my love.â
Emma blushes as Killian presses a gentle kiss to her palm. âThank you, you donât look so bad yourself.â
âCaptain. Princess. Shall we?â
Killian quickly looks at Emma before answering. âYes Mr. Smee, please.â
Smee just nods his head, beaming at his Captain and his beloved. âWe are here on this beautiful, starry, early morning, aboard this magnificent ship to join these two souls as husband and wife, until the end of time. Captain, you may proceed with your declarations.â
âEmma, my love my words are failing me now that we are finally here. Darling, Iâm beyond grateful. Iâm honored that you love me and have chosen that from this day forward we will walk through life as partners. As husband and wife. I promise to do everything in my power to make sure you know that you are loved and cherished. I will move heaven above and earth below to ensure that you are happy and never want for anything. I love you. And from this day forward know that I am yours body, heart, and soul.â Once he finishes speaking he reaches up with his thumb to brush away the tears rolling down her cheeks.
Smee clears his throat, sounding a little choked up with emotion. âBeautiful, Captain⌠now Princess, if you will.â
âKillian. My Killian, you were my first love, my only love, my true love. You had my heart from the moment we met, never once did I lose hope we would make it here. No one ever realized I was a girl who just wanted to be loved for being me, not for being the princess, but you did. I will never know how you saw the girl behind the princess, but you did, and I am grateful. Now that I have you back, I canât imagine a life without you in it, and Iâm glad that now I wonât ever have to. I love you. I will do my best to make you happy and ensure you feel my love, from this day forward I am yours body, heart, and soul.â
âVery touching, milady⌠now the rings. Captain, repeat after me please. With this ring, I, Killian Jones, pledge myself to you, body and soul, from now until the end of time.â Â
As he slides his motherâs ring on Emmaâs finger Killian repeats the sacred words. âWith this ring, I, Killian Jones, pledge myself to you, body and soul, from now until the end of time.â
âPrincess, please repeat after me. With this ring, I, Emma Swan, pledge myself to you, body and soul, from now until the end of time.â
She slides Liamâs ring onto Killianâs finger, trying not to cry. âWith this ring, I, Emma Swan, pledge myself to you, body and soul, from now until the end of time.â
âWith the exchange of rings and declarations of love, with the power provided to me by the Captain, I pronounce you husband and wife. Congratulations, Captain and Mistress Jones. You may kiss your bride, sir.â
Emma gives a watery chuckle as Killian sweeps her off her feet into an earth-shattering kiss filled with every ounce of their love. After a few moments Killian reluctantly breaks the kiss with his wife. Emmaâs my wife, Gods above I love this woman, Killian thinks in awed disbelief.
âThank you Mr. Smee, I think we shall retire for the morning. Be sure to get some rest when the morning watch comes to relieve you. Are we still on schedule to make Oldstown tomorrow afternoon?â
âIt was entirely my pleasure, I am truly happy for the both of you. And, yes Captain, we are still on schedule. Should I expect to be in charge of the ship up until we dock, sir?â
âYou know Smee, I would say that is a very good idea. But if there is something that needs my attention, know that you can come get me.â
âI will, sir. Again, many congratulations Captain, Mistress Jones. Enjoy your day and a half until we make port.â
âThank you Mr. Smee, the Captain and I both appreciate your help in taking this special step that weâve both been waiting for. And I appreciate everything you do for the ship, the crew, and my husband. I hope you have a pleasant rest of the morning.â She walks up hugging him, surprising him, before returning to Killianâs side.
âGood day Mr. Smee.â
âGood day Captain. Mistress.â
âShall we? Mistress Jones.â
Emmaâs heart stutters with happiness. Mistress Jones⌠weâre married. Finally, he is mine as much as I am his. And to think a month ago I was worried he wouldnât remember me.
âWe shall, Captain Jones.â
Gods above how did I get so lucky? Is this another dream? I will never take Emmaâs love for granted⌠she and our children will never doubt my devotion.
Arriving at the doors to the Captainâs cabin, Killian lifts Emma to carry her across the threshold of their cabin, kissing her thoroughly in the process.
âKillian, you donât have to carry me, Iâm not far enough along that I canât walk.â
âLove, it is tradition that the husband carry his wife across the threshold of their marriage suite. You donât want to invite bad luck now do you?â
She playfully swats him in the chest, shaking her head. âNo. I guess we wouldnât want that. Now are you ever going to put me down?â
âNever, love. Never. Now that I have you, I never intend to let you go. And as soon as we get to Oldstown we will seek out the doctor to make sure you are okay.â She starts to interrupt him, but he just raises a hand to stop her, allowing her legs to settle on the floor while keeping his other arm wrapped around her back. âNo. You will not fight me on this love, we will have you looked at by the doctor to make sure there are no surprises. After we leave Oldstown itâs still another week, good wind and weather permitting, before we make it to Arendelle. I will not take any chances with your health and life, nor the health and life of our child.â His tone brooks no arguments.
âKillian. Even though we are now married, and even with me being in my condition, neither one negates the fact that I still have to face the Evil Queen.â
âThat may be Emma, but we will not take any unnecessary chances and risk you or the baby. I will not try to keep you from your destiny of taking on the Evil Queen, but we will do this the smart way, which does not include charging off half-cocked.â
âAye-Aye, Captain,â she says. Emma knows he is just concerned for her, but if he insists on orders then she will answer accordingly.
âNow, now, darling, I am not trying to upset you, nor do I wish to control you. Perhaps I need to work on the words I choose?â
âPerhaps,â is her only reply.
âWhen we arrive in Oldstown I would like to seek out the doctor so he can make sure you and the baby are well. We still have a ways to go before Arendelle, and I think it is better to have you both checked now. Would you agree?â
âThatâs better, pirate.â She smiles at him to let him know she does appreciate the sentiment.
âAye, I thought so,â he replies cheekily, ânow letâs get you off to bed, it has been far too long since I have ravished you.â A shiver of anticipation runs up her spine at his words. âI like the dress darling, itâs very becoming on you.â
âI thought you might like it.â
âI think I might like it better on the floor.â
Killian made good on his promise of ravishing her, well past dawn, and every moment they werenât sleeping until Oldstown came into sight.
âââ
A/N : If anyone is curious, Oldstown is the Southernmost town within the borders of Arendelle.
Also, fun fact, I've had this chapter written and queued up since February, and I think the similarities between mine and the shows proposal is adorably funny.
All the thanks to @hollyethecurious for making this lovely aesthetic/collage.
