It's been a LONG LONG time (quite literally a year and a half) since I really drew something, but I've been trying to get back into bc omg I miss it so much, and posting. Anyways here's my attempt to reteach myself with Jack and Crutchie (bc who else) I love them ugh. Anyways Idk I hop nobody sees this bc it's awful but I miss them.

so in the 1890s dating language was a lot different from today…

so the newsies could say they were going on dates… but it would more likely be referred to as a public courtship.

and the terms Boyfriend and Girlfriend wouldn’t exist until the 1910-20s but they did have

beau- male partner /boyfriend (pronounced bow)

belle- female partner /girlfriend

unfortunately there’s no gender neutral because uh pre modern era and all, but I think Partner or Courted would work

Other common pet names include: angel, baby, beloved, darling, dear, dearest, honey, heart, love, lover, precious, sweetheart, treasure
