I am pro “benefit of the doubt” in situations where it’s like a bro in your 100 level poli sci class who said something a little problematic but genuinely wants to learn. I’m not pro “benefit of the doubt” when it’s a middle aged billionaire ceo with a proven track record of racist and antisemitic rhetoric making a Nazi salute at a national event
#talking#and EVEN if I were to entertain the idea that it was just an awkward gesture#that doesn’t change the fact that he is such a piece of shit that it’s completely plausible that he would be making a Nazi salute#look I am not here to stan or defend politicians but I’ve seen people post images saying like ‘oh look Kamala Harris looks like she’s doing#it’#like shut the fuck up that image is clearly taken from a gesture and if we watched the video it wouldn’t be an emphatic movement#AND ALSO SHE HAS NO PREVIOUS CONNECTIONS TO NEO NAZIS

+ @msmvrel asked: ❝ Look, I know I messed up, okay?! ❞
+ " I think there's a LOT of that going around . " It wasn't the FIRST time she'd seen some of the people she called her FRIENDS come back all TORN up from a fight they'd been otherwise CONFIDENT in . The number of times she'd BANDAGED Peter up to the point that she might as well have DRIVEN him to the E.R. was high enough she didn't want to try and COUNT. But beyond the PHYSICAL injuries ? There was no doubt in her mind that SOME of them had to be nursing some wounds UNSEEN .
" And you know what ? Everyone in that room ? They've done the SAME thing . I know that PROBABLY doesn't make it BETTER, but there's NO-ONE who can say you MESSED up and also say they're not a HYPOCRITE. "

i have seen people call chappell neutral over her statement on why she wont endorse kamala and that makes me particularly angry because she is ANYTHING but neutral.
these ↓ are not neutral statements
she did not tell people they shouldn’t vote, and a lot of her fanbase already knows the danger they are in so of course they’re going to vote. She’s standing for what she believes is right, and she’s not just sitting around either, shes making active donations to palestine and advocating for queer and trans people. She’s telling yall to use your critical thinking skills and yall are in fact not using your critical thinking skills. Her acknowledging problems on both sides is not her saying we should just give up! shes acknowledging an important issue and standing by her values and morals. I live in the south, i understand very well how politics effect queer people here and i know that my fellow southern queens understand that as well so we already know that in order to protect our rights we have to VOTE. Not only do i live in the south but i’m a trans person myself and ive seen a lotta people saying she doesn’t actually care about trans people, and i couldn’t disagree more. She has spoken more about trans people than ive seen in my entire lifetime. She stands for us, she talks about us, she dedicated her award to queer and trans people, she honors us and if she doesn’t care about trans people then yall need to take a look at a lot of the other artists or celebrities that yall stan. There are much worse people to focus on in the celebrity world right now, open zionists and transphobes and yall are out here ganging up on chappell roan out of all people. And as ive seen some people say, if you’re relying on celebrities to tell you who to vote for then you need to do some revaluation.

Look, here's why "Teen" CAN'T be Billy (and it'd make me extra pissed off if it is.) Spoilers for Agatha All Along and Marvel comics!
↓
↓
↓
Billy is a Scarlet Witch fanboy first and foremost. He's also a shameless nerd for all the Avengers, like Kamala Khan. Making his introduction be as an Agatha fanboy, even just as a con, is maddening. Why need her or help her get powers back when he'd know how dangerous she is to Wanda and himself by extension? He's already extremely strong on his own. Why nerf him?
For Billy to be here in search of Wanda, it means they would have majorly skipped his origin story. He had a new family he was born into and a team, adventures, love, all before he AND HIS BRO went to find Wanda. Hell, he thought she was dead like everyone else for a while.
Billy got Wanda back with FAMILY help. His brother Tommy. Uncle Pietro. Grandpappy Magneto. (I do understand the MCU won't let us have the last two.) A family quest to find family being turned into a Halloween Wizard Of Oz journey with an enemy would give me a migraine. They re-imagined House Of M so recognizably with Wandavision, so why would they fumble Billy's comics here?
There's no reason Billy's name or story would be forbidden to Agatha. Who would have made that spell? Why? Would she even recognize him when his last name is very different and family life has no connection to Wanda at all? I doubt he keeps blabbing to her that he's Wanda's son if he's really pretending to be Agatha's stan. (There's another theory of who Teen is that makes more sense for his name to be hidden, but his comics aren't in my wheelhouse.)
When Teen said a spell in the first episode, it was some Latin mumbling instead of his will. Billy in the comics, at least when he's still young, wills things to be in order to use his magic. He says what he wants like a mantra, out loud in plain words. I know the MCU might have nix'd this since he didn't do it in Wandavision either, but I still have hope they'll give it back. It shows how powerful he is, like his mother who could change all reality with an errant thought.
If the boyfriend calling was Teddy, that means they also skipped the couple growing closer on their team and the whole Skrull/Kree prince thing by this point in the timeline, and I'm just already so mad it's taken this long to even get one HINT of Teddy in the MCU, so if they really made his introduction be a neglected phone call I'll scream. He did stay home and worry and cover for the twins while they searched for their mom, but that's AFTER they'd established themselves as heroes and Teddy had his own family crisis. (They should have introduced him in The Marvels, I'm—)
No red in Teen's color scheme nor any resemblance to young Asgardian or Wiccan costumes. It's the weakest argument but the wardrobe dept usually gives us something. Billy had the color scheme in Wandavision and got to mimic his Wiccan costume besides (not the ugly galaxy pajamas they have him in nowadays). There's a promo poster that DOES have Teen in red with a headband, but it still seems off to me. Seems like a trick.
Granted, if Teen is really who most suspect to be another character close to Agatha, he doesn't have that color scheme either and I'd completely understand why...
Now stop making such smartass posts in the tag casually calling Teen "Billy" until we know. Because not only are you raising my blood pressure, but it's disrespectful to people who like to avoid untagged spoilers and you may just be setting them up for no reason. It's rude.

HEY CHECK IT OUT
what the fuck.
if you're out of the loop, there's been a TON of activity in political tiktok, specifically in the leftist space. an obvious talkie has been attempting to spread the lie that they were paid $15,000 by the DNC (which turns out to be a lie; it was $10,000 from a third party group called Vocal so the content creator can make content about Project 2025) & then made the claim that any content creator speaking well about Democrats were all getting paid to do so, which was also a lie & even if it wasn't, who cares? people put in a ton of work & don't often get paid enough.
the next big issue: this tankie, who is a white woman that lives in California, made an outrageous claim that Angela Davis wasn't a true member of the Black Panthers & now the explosive & entirely valid conversations about racism & white supremacy exist even in leftist spaces are taking that area by storm.
black women have been talking about it quite a bit & by now they're annoyed because it sounds like they're defending Kamala Harris even though they may not like her or her policies even if they may be voting for her anyways or not.
the input & knowledge from black women is important & we all need to listen. the fact is that as white people exist, we're living in a system founded on & upheld by white supremacy & what's worse is in leftist spaces, because people believe they're the ultimate ally, they don't need to put in anymore work.
but then things get sticky. things get uncomfortable. they have to be white saviors & once again, black & indigenous folks living here will pay the price.
certain leftists can claim they're anti-genocide as much as they wish but they're only partially against a specific one going on. i don't blame them for caring because everyone should give a damn about people going through something so horrific. that said, whatever horrors have been going on to our fellow man here don't seem to bother them as much. there may be some compassion here & there but nowhere near the level of devotion to people across an ocean from us.
then you get the shit in the above screenshot. a chaos agent. a putin puppet, who is stanned by the likes of Kshama Sawant, an accelerstionist as far as i can tell as well as Hassan Abdel Salam, both of whom have admitted they know they can't win but they want Harris to lose ignoring the fact that trump wants to deport them & others like them no matter how long they may have lived here. you get jill stein, someone who can immediately call netanyahu & Biden war criminals but when pressed about her precious putin suddenly she has a problem with "name calling" (the KGB should have trained her better). she's received money from Republicans for her campaign. she's getting help from trump lawyers. trump personally thanked her by name in a speech earlier this year because even he knows she's another tool for him.
it's wild how green party voters call those voting for Harris "blue maga" but they themselves are behaving more like original maga than they will care to admit let alone see. i'm not saying that there aren't those who think Harris is perfect, but i hardly see such blind devotion the way i see people have for trump & stein. both are cult leaders. they say things their followers want to hear.
stein's response?
oh no you don't. this was from 2016:
she's full of it. a KKK leader felt safe enough to endorse her & i'm now seeing her cult followers defending her, such as believing that he was paid by Democrats to do this & that we're apparently celebrating Dick Cheney's endorsement (i saw one comment saying people think Cheney is "brat" lmao) even though there had been zero celebrating & mostly trepidation & astonishment. he's clearly not voting for Harris because he has a change of heart; even if it's for selfish reasons, he & a bunch of other old Republicans see the danger that trump possesses. they're not agreeing with policies from Harris because she's "far right" (a bullshit claim anyways); they're agreeing that any extremist takeover is NOT GOOD. leftists refuse to see this perspective.
so like i mentioned earlier, it's white supremacy. jill stein has taken a once noble party & bastardized it to the point that white supremacists & antisemites feel safe in her space (i'm not saying that being pro-Palestine means you're an antisemite. i'm pointing out that Duke is also an antisemite). it's disgusting & disturbing. she's a wealthy white woman who won't be harmed by Project 2025. she wants trump to win & she & her rabid followers are working to make that happen.
third party voters, you aren't safe. you are accelerstionists to me now regardless of reason. your voting this way or not voting at all isn't brave or impressive, it's selfish, a surrender, cowardly. you don't want to get your hands dirty but when things go to shit you will refuse to take any responsibility for your part in it. the revolution you want so badly is nothing more than your version of the Rapture & the only revolution that will be happening is a fascist one because Republicans know how to play a long game to get real results unlike you leftists. they love that your tunnel vision self-righteousness makes you stupid & willing to throw your fellow vulnerable Americans under the bus so you get to feel morally superior.
you're monstrous. i'm not bothering to try to beg or play nice with you lot since you're no better than trump's maga. a former KKK leader endorsed your precious savior & nothing you say will change that. to make excuses is to make your space safe for white supremacy. you're unsafe.

I don't even care what spn stan twitter does about spn drama any more. Whatever helldrama going on over there to do with the election, a few might as well be Russian bots trying to throw the election to Trump for all that they're doing anything helpful, and yes there's accounts from each of the J2M lane who need to STFU and stop treating this like a canvas for their personal fandom wanks or using a celebrity as the punching bag canvas for all their fears, and get down to dealing with the actual issues and give more attention to supporting Kamala Harris than to their petty standom lane grudge slapfighting or over parasocializing or anti-parasocializing of Misha Collins.
It falls into a few categories at this point. We can't make them stop. Nobody can make spn stan twitter stop. My goal here is to raise some awareness to avoid the traps, so if people come across it, they can shut it out.
lack of critical thinking and not thinking for themselves about endemic issues in the US political landscape all to avoid comprehending why Misha's comments were a problem for many people. His good intentions doesn't make that not be a thing.
or people in such a panicky doomspiral they went for his throat inappropriately, including some who are deluded enough to think they can tell Misha what he can/cannot post about, with joy-banning rhetoric. This enables/spreads the panic vibe "the Democrats can't win," and is an undermining narrative
grudgewankers who already hate Misha just for existing due to petty spn shipwar reasons and any excuse will do, so they went for his throat concern trolling and virtue signaling and performative rage-baiting, screaming that Misha should be harassed and blackballed for the rest of his life
Ironically doing all this while shrieking about how he'd better get down to work supporting Kamala Harris...while they're running doomspiral election interference narratives and not getting down to work themselves.
Twitter may be sinking, but it still has influence. Knowing this is going on is another stone on the pile of my anxiety. Oh you're anxious? Scared? Wow I have no idea what that's like!!!! But I have some self awareness and wariness of the impact of doomspirals in online political discourse.
*Cher voice* Snap out of it!

Have you heard about the latest Ms. Marvel news? I'm a little conflicted with Iman writing but still disappointed (but not surprised) about the whole X-Men thing
I assume your referring to this? Because was very confused at first by what you were talking about...until I decided to check my twitter and saw this on my timeline. And instantly, I felt like this:
youtube
Because are you fucking kidding me???? MCU didn't need to actually prove all of us right that they basically killed Kamala off just so they could revive her on the X-Men's cult island and make her into a mutant, JUST TO MATCH THE DAMN MCU!
I- I- I just am so sick of this with Marvel/MCU. MCU didn't make her a inhuman because a, they incapable of waiting to introduce the inhumans and b, if Miss America wasn't a warning sign, MCU will change the heroes if they feel like it for some bullshit reason. And MCU has done this before! Because when they introduced Wanda and Pietro, guess whose rights they didn't have? X-Mens, mainly Magnetos- so of course, they not mutants but instead, a result of HYDRA experiments and also not the kids of Magneto (and for some reason, MCU decided that means they can't be Romani and Jewish (their mom being romani in the comics)). But that doesn't mean the comics will- oh wait, they did, they decided to make the twins no longer mutants but instead, into humans who got powers via experiments (not hydra but High Evoutionary in comics case...but still, sound familiar?) and also, no longer Magneto's kids.
Just, can someone tell Marvel they don't have to match the MCU???? The MCU started off as an adaption, but now it feels like the comics are starting to become the adaption instead, and given in this case, it required Kamala to be fridged for Spiderman's angst just so they can revive her on X-Men's cult island and make her into a mutant, it is beyond shitty.
And...yeah, I'm not sure what to say about Iman writing this, I have no clue how she writes so I can't pre-judge her writing, but like, ignoring how I hate this bullshit, she does seem to know comics at least since while Kevin Feige was out here trying to claim the MCU is Earth-616 (at this point he may as well not be wrong but), Iman in an interview debunked this and we have no choice but to stan her for that.
#anti mcu#mcu critical#obviously this isnt a marvel issue#dc is a lil weird in this area as well#but not as bad as the mcu

Who’s Gwenpool’s favorite superhero? Has it been said?
It hasn't been explicitly stated as far as I'm aware, she's supposed to be a general super fan kinda reader which gives her an advantage over all characters because she knows everything, but we can make a couple guesses about who her favorites are
For one, we know it's not Deadpool, she actually doesn't read any of his comics which I think is a hilarious little detail
This is her room in the real world and we can see she's got a thor plushie and poster as well as a spider-man plushie and poster. There's also iron man, wolverine, hulk, and captain America stuff. Fair to say she's problem more of an avengers fan than an x stan
and then this is her room in 616, still pretty avengers heavy, but it's got heroes that she's met already (except Captain Marvel and She-Hulk). Gwen was reading a Miles comic in her universe so obviously, she liked him before, but I do think she picks her favorite heroes currently by how willing they are to hang out with her
She also just is so dedicated to getting Miles to hang out with her. Peter Parker was in unbelievable Gwenpool for one issue and Gwen didn't even try anything. But with Miles, she really wants to be on a team with him, he's a major player in her first solo series because she's always seeking him out
If she's shown reading a comic, it's always a spider-man comic the one she's reading here is Spider-Man double trouble with Peter and venom
Given this evidence I think it's safe to say she's biased towards Spider-Man, valuing both Miles and Peter just in different ways. This makes sense with her first attempt to get superpowers being her trying to get Peter to bite her so she gets Spider powers.
That being said...there's your favorite hero and then there's the hero that's your favorite because you've got a crush on them. It's pretty obvious that Gwen has no romantic feelings toward Miles...but there are other heroes who she's kinda weird around
There's a theory that Gwen has a crush on Jane Foster because of the whole wall shoving thing and how flustered she was. I personally like this idea and you know she's got a picture of her in her room
She is, unfortunately, a stucky shipper which like...girl you're a comics fan get it together. She also mentions wanting to see the winter soldier movie when in the pocket dimension working at the movie theatre so I think it's fair to assume she thinks they're hot
now you might be saying what about Reed Richards, she's canonically kissed him and to that I say, it was literally just a scheme to stay relevant. Check out Gwenpool strikes back #2 if you don't believe me (also check it out because it implies that Johnny isn't into women at all which... okay)
but my final answer is
Kamala Khan! Gwen literally calls her best girl and you know what Kamala is one of the only heroes that is consistently kind and compassionate with Gwen, often being the only one to explain the rules of this world and recognize her as perhaps mentally ill. I don't think Kamala was Gwen's favorite before entering the superhero world, but I think just being around her and the other heroes has shifted her perspective
#asks#tl dr it's probably one of the spider-men but I think her best friend is kamala#she also wears a power pack t shirt#she does imply that she's willing to date America chavez but I don't think that's a crush so much as a ploy to get a love interest#long post

Ok, spoilers for this year hellfire gala. This is going to be an overall gush, probably barely coherent. I’ll try to intercalate positive and negatives?
What in the actual fuck?!
First of all, the Kamala resurrection was exactly as meaningless, corporative and boring as expected. I just can’t wait to see what stupid power they come up with as her mutant gift (supposing of course that the terrigen/x-gene incompatibility will be solved trivially on an artificially convenient moment [like her whole death and resurrection was]). Also (and I’m jumping the horse a little, but this is a really meaningless nitpick that just stayed on my mind) how does she know the X-men red triangle psychic resistance thingy?
Scott wearing his old Champions suit? Complete flop. He can’t sell it at all. But I do find it cute and endearing, and this is exactly the pathetic Summers behavior that I’m here for.
The G.O.D.S. cameo was really clunky. I mean, I know nothing about those people, apart that they didn’t help at all on the whole thing (and maybe they have a reason for that. I wouldn’t know) and that Wyn is hot. I may give it a chance for more Wyn.
Speaking of hot, David? Slay. Emma? Slay. Jubilation? Slay. Kate? Omega slay. Like, if this is the last hellfire (and I don’t mean this on a “wow, this could have everlasting consequences” way, but a “yeah, I don’t think they should try to sell this idea again for two or three years”), at least they could serve until the end. Imagine how funny all the Charles drama would be if he was wearing his stupid baby pope atire from the first gala?!
The avengers? As pointless as expected. Nothing new under the sun, and I actually appreciate that they are useless on X-titles.
About the New York Arbor Magna thing, can we please have Cyclops leading the team on a wheelchair for like… this whole phase? It would be so weird, and fun, and iconic! Like, having Charles walking around (or, I don’t know, dying alone on that freaking beach? I would enjoy that.) and Scott brooding on a chair? Absolutely fantastic. I do think Emma and Scott leading again could be a nice echo to last time.
Because… we are having a new (supposedly) mutant genocide again. Imagine being resurrected from Genosha, or Decimation, or the Terrigen stuff, and immediately dying again? Lol. The concept is so so overdone at this point. It doesn’t preserve the impact at all.
On the other hand, you know that post about how every queer person has a universe-appointed C tier X-men character to love and cherish? I do think my baby Explodey-boy is dead know. Absolutely homophobic behavior.
I do enjoy Stasis and Nimrod very much. At this point, I would devour an orchis tittle if they promised me absolute lack of Moira and Feilong (as they are, in fact, shit). When Stasis said that Charles understood powers of ten? And the dancing? Send me shivers. Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping (…).
I also think Jean stole the scene a little bit. I’m not usually a Jean stan, but god dammit she is so strong. And like, not only in the Omega Telepath Phoenix way, she has so much presence and name, inside and outside the world, that so much can be supported by her. I feel like the whole story is hanging by her absoluteness of a character. And Maddie holding her??? Aaaaaa
That’s it, I guess… just wanted to do my overall first impression. I do like the Krakoa era very much, and the last decade or so have taught me to take apparent big status quo changes with a grain of salt (I mean, Emma is supposed to marry flop Stark in four or five chapters, right?! Things should probably be relatively stable by them), but I can see myself enjoying the change of pace a little.
By far the worst gala? Yeah. For sure. Like, criminally bad chapter. But I do see some things planted that could end up being really fun.

You know what's funny is I've warned against some of the shit this site shills as OK. It was so enraging like 6 or 7 years ago when I posted something like "yeah never leaving someone alone after they fuck up is probably bad actually" and got called... IDK the word at the time, but something like an apologist.
And again, I'm gonna point this out: Seeing everything in black and white with no greys in the middle IS THE PROBLEM. Not just "A" problem, but THE problem among leftists.
I'm gonna go ahead and use Arin Hanson as an example again, because there's drama about him on Twitter again, but people still want to "remind" his fans about the stupid shit he did in his life ten or more years ago. You don't have to do that, I fucking promise. You don't. You don't have to like him or be his biggest stan if you don't want to, but CHRIST. Shut the fuck up. You HAVE to give people room to change and grow, or what is this all for?
"But what if ______ said something racist?"
Are they actively doing it now? Are they doing racist things? Are they causing harm? No? Then SHUT UP. You don't have to tell everyone who posts about _______ that they said something stupid 10 years ago.
I also follow someone on Twitter who fucked up in a huge way and JUST posted some racist shit. It was unintentional and came from a place of severe misinformation, and he apologized as soon as he realized he fucked up and even RT'd the people who corrected him, but there are STILL PEOPLE commenting on his posts with "are you going to address this" and... just fucking SHUT UP. There is a really clear line between holding someone accountable and harassment. You HAVE to learn to tell the difference.
And I can't believe I have to say this because someone will misconstrue this, but holding people accountable is good. It is. I get it. You want to point things out and demand better. That is good for society. But if you see people have already pointed it out by the dozens, or sometimes hundreds, you can just... not support that person.
There's this thing on the internet where if you don't explicitly state that you DON'T support something, then you MUST support it. And those people also need to shut the fuck up. Sometimes it's the dogpiling that pushes people away from reflection, especially when there are also a ton of comments that say things like "don't listen to them. If you ever need to talk, I'm here."
Who do you think that person is going to for help? The person calling them horrible, or the person offering them comfort?
I fully expect to get asshole asks like "oh so you support racism" and here's a pre-emptive "fuck you" for deliberately misinterpreting what I'm saying. Unfollow and block me rather than sending me dipshit asks.
I'm done with all of you.
I'm especially done with the pissants who saw me say "Kamala Harris is probably better for the country than Donald Trump" and sent me asks saying I was a fucking genocide apologist. You see what your bullshit got you? Fuck you. Now we have someone who'll not only support the Palestinian genocide, but will likely do other terrible shit, as well. And even though Palestinians begged you to vote for Kamala Harris, you just had to virtue signal to the world that you were just so gosh darn progressive.
I am saying this all from the bottom of my heart. Stop pushing people away. Stop seeking perfection in every person on the internet. You will NEVER find it, and not only will you spend your life angry, but you'll spend your life fucking things up for everyone else.
posts about the alt-right pipeline being compassionate towards young men while radical leftists shun and shame them are not fucking saying "the men are becoming violent because feminists are too mean!" and if that is your takeaway you need to get off tumblr until you've better honed your critical thinking skills.
those posts are talking about how effective the language and approach you take in your activism can be. this is literally cult deprogramming 101. if someone is being taken in by a violent or dangerous group, that violent or dangerous group is usually offering them compassion and solace while working hard to convince them everyone else in the world is their enemy. you are under no obligation to coddle or act compassionate toward these men and their violent ideologies, but if you have the means to try, it is something that you can do to make a tangible difference.
radicalized people are often only one loving friend or family member or external voice away from being de-radicalized. of course that is not always the case, but it very often is. a lot of y'all rightfully understand that you do not carry the burden of being that voice, but a lot of y'all also have a lot of internalized ideas about morals and punitive justice and have simply written off these people as deserving of only the worst and not worth saving.
ten years ago, my grandmother was a fox news watching republican who voted red in every election and very well could have fallen down the qanon rabbit hole if not for me and her daughter challenging her compassionately, walking her through hypotheticals that validated her feelings & proving why they were false, & being patient with her despite our extreme division in political ideology. it was frustrating fucking work! but i decided i wanted to do it, because i could see the horizon and i could see me making a difference!
"misogynists have been saying feminists are too mean for years, get new material" that is not the fucking POINT. the point is that you, feminist, can be the compassionate voice that guides your brother, your father, your cousin, your grandfather away from fucking becoming or staying a nazi. you can show them compassion and companionship. you can be the woman they think of when their alt-right bros try to convince them that women are the enemy. and you can choose to crystallize that image of yourself so wholly in their mind's eye as worth protecting that they may very well choose to reject those harmful ideas.
it's not saying you HAVE to do it! it's saying you CAN do it! don't you 'firebomb a walmart' people all love taking change into your own hands? where the fuck is that energy right now, huh?

Wendie Renard OL Feminin Contract Extension Interview (September 2, 2024)
I'll save the fucking van de Donk nutcase stans the time and say Renard does not talk about van de Donk in this interview. For the life of me I do not understand frothing at the mouth over a player to the point of inserting yourself into conversations between two individuals you don't even know. To paraphrase Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, it's weird and creepy. So for the love of god please step outside, take a nice long deep breath of fresh air, and contemplate being a normal person who doesn't stalk football players. I refuse to believe it is that much of an ask.
I could write entire dissertations on why Renard is my favorite Bad Catholic such a good captain. I also find the dynamics between Renard and Lyon players, past and present, absolutely fascinating. It's cool! It's interesting! And you get it by watching them play instead of stalking them on social media! Renard is the only person in the world who can look at Hegerberg and say "don't" and Hegerberg backs down immediately. How can you not find that cool and interesting? Lyon, the story of a dynasty built by a ruthless tyrant and her loyal mercenary only to be destroyed by academy players.
Blah blah standard disclaimers apply; as the song goes this heat wave IS freaking me out @OL Comms pls save me and my AC bill; the way some of you refuse to practice basic social etiquette honestly concerns me; y'all know the speech by now.
Interview was posted on Youtube but I am still transcribing it because what is love if not avoiding doing the dishes self-loathing?
WENDIE RENARD CONTRACT EXTENSION INTERVIEW
Renard: "I feel good. After, my contract wasn't ending either. The decision to extend for one year was made for various reasons which will stay between the club and myself because that's the way it is. We keep things confidential even if the ownership has changed. I know what this club has given me. I know where I've come from. Beyond that, the ambition is still there, it's to remain at the highest level and at the top. So the adventure will continue for one more year. It will have been 21 [years.]"
Renard: "This is home. The balance has shifted. I left Martinique at 16, I'm going to be 34, the balance has tipped. It's even reversed. Beyond that, I've already said it, I'm the person that I am because of the values my parents have taught me. I'm someone who is very thankful. It's why there have been a lot of discussions with the club for a while. I've always been honest and open with them. And the objective was - in any case, I know that for me I know where I came from. I know it wasn't easy and that if it hadn't been for my first coach, Farid Benstiti who said yes to taking a chance on me, I would be in Martinique and I wouldn't be sitting here in front of you. So yeah, it's a good story. But obviously there were others. I met others who were exceptional people, people who work here, President Jean-Michel Aulas, practically his entire team, even staff, players who have left. We created a real connection, it's a family. I'm far from my family myself. There is more than 8,000 km. So at a certain point when you arrive and you find a new family here, it allows you to develop even more as a player and to grow even more."
Renard: "There was a new owner coming in, we didn't know her ambitions, we didn't know what her expectations were for the women's team. We heard a lot of things in the press about us. So there was bit of unease. Then after having talked with the new boss [Michele Kang], she put forth the project she wanted for us. She's an inspirational woman, she's someone who wants to give women a chance in various domains. So it's important. It's important. Beyond that, the project is long-term. I don't think I will be a part of it as a player. It's important for me as a player to keep that identity of always wanting to win, to always show the values this club has. So that's also why the contract extension happened."
Renard: 'Even if the ownership changed, we have a new boss, it's important for me to keep the [Lyon] DNA. It's that DNA which has allowed us to win this many titles, no matter the players on the field, no matter the staff. I've shared a lot on the field with a lot of players. So for me it's important to continue. Beyond that, I'm more towards the end [of my career] than the beginning. I'm also in a transition phase with the new generation coming up, even if I have always done that. But beyond that - well, the adventure continues. And we mainly have to win titles."
Renard: "I hear a lot of things about myself, when they talk about Lyon they also talk about me. But it's not me - I didn't make Olympique Lyonnais Feminin. We already had a president, I know I said this before, but he was someone who really believed in us since 2004 when he merged the women's section with what was FC Lyon at the time. So the story started back then. Then there were different generations, different players who left a mark for this club. I'm still here, I can't leave. [laughs] But it also shows my consistency in terms of me as a person. I've always been someone who has talked about the team because I play a team sport. It shows my consistency. I think that it's been like that for while. It's still a business, it's become a real business. You have to perform well because results are expected of us. If I wasn't performing well I wouldn't be sitting here in front of you today."
Renard: "No, like I said, it's nice to have extended. As I said, there are a lot of projects coming up in the upcoming years, as much for the new generation and making them understand, well, it's not just because we're at Lyon and that we have won this many titles, that doesn't matter. What matters is what we have to go win. You have to throw yourself into it, you have to fight. You have to work hard because it's not handed to you. You don't win just because."
Renard: "I don't forget my role as a player either. As I said, you have to perform well because that's the only way you will get the respect from your teammates, and everyone's respect. But I've always been - even when I arrived here when I was really young - I learned from others. I've always been someone who watched, who observed. Because as I learned from older players when I was starting out, it's become natural both in my role with the team, I became captain under Patrice Lair. Obviously that allowed me to grow as a person, as a player and especially as a woman. So it became natural for me. And I also think it's logical. As I said to the younger players, if I can help you grow up 2-3 years, that's non-negotiable."
Renard: "We often talk about the highs but there have also been some defeats which really, really hurt. But in any case Lyon's achievements, like I said, many, many players have come through Lyon, a lot of staff. We didn't do it by ourselves, we did it together. You need the team as a whole to win. The season is very long. There are highs and lows in a season. We've seen that the last few years. Injuries, a lot of things can happen. It's really important everyone stays focused on the objectives we fix for ourselves at the beginning of the season because - and I keep repeating myself - that's what we work for. And at the end, when you started from zero and you manage to win trophies, well you can only be happy and satisfied."
Renard: "Yes, it's become harder and harder. But we've wanted that for a while. But it's become harder and harder because the teams are becoming stronger especially in terms of the staff, the physical preparation. Before - and I'm thinking of a few games - by the 60th, maybe 70th minute we were really overpowering the other team. But today they can hold their own. Women's football has progressed, it has really moved forwarded. It's good news for the future. It's all we want. And that's why individually as well you have to do everything to change shall we say the "method of working" as an individual because while we do the team work together, we can't just rely on the practice sessions at the club anymore. It's that simple. There are so many demands [on your body] around the sport that you have to do everything possible to be ready physically for whatever challenge you face."
Renard: "In any case you always remember what happened in the past, especially when it hurt. The past can make you come back even stronger. But then, even when it's going well, there's always things to change. But you're experiencing euphoria so you're savoring it. But there's always something to change because from one season to the next, well, it's not the same thing. The intensity grows. And for me as an athlete, I've always aimed high, I've always set the bar high in terms of expectations. First for myself, I'm someone who is very demanding of myself. For me it's really important to keep that, it's something that you need to improve on a daily basis. There's always areas, you're always learning no matter your age. Sometimes I hear "well at a certain age-" No. You're always learning no matter your age. Because - well once again, we have a new coach, new staff. So this year I am going to be learning a lot [mainly how much the academy kids suck] because the expectations are different, they might ask things of us which are different from previous years [like letting fucking academy kids play competitive games]. So you learn no matter your age. It requires a lot of self-reflection, it requires a lot of analysis from my part. From everyone as well. But in any case I am someone who is very demanding so I try to put myself in the best position to perform individually and then the team follows the example."
Renard: "I find it really interesting, the fact that there is a structure really focused on taking care of women's bodies. Because once again all the studies, everything that was done in the past, was done on men. Of course even at the time I think it helped, for me personally it really helped because when I arrived here, well, Patrice [Lair, former head coach] was doing everything like with the men. Now I was young so it was okay, but today, with all the years that have gone past, you say to yourself maybe there were things that we did that have consequences on our bodies now. So to have structures which are really focused on development, on research, focused on women, on things like our periods and the affects those have on injuries, shoes, analysis, etc. I think that's really informative. And me, I - I'm really eager to see what happens next because she [Michele Kang] is really someone who wants to given women the opportunity in various domains and we'll see what happens next. For the moment I think it's more the board who is in charge of the project. There's the academy project, wanting to have our own pitch, wanting to have a facility just for us. I don't think there are a lot like that in the world. I don't there are a lot of presidents who would do that, even if we couldn't complain here because President Aulas wanted to give us the opportunities as the men. And we have the same opportunities as the men. So those are things which are in the continuity of women's football."
Renard: "Yeah, it's Michele [Kang]'s project. We can see it in any case with her desire to have several clubs on various continents. So, yeah. It's a project. It's her own project. But in any case today at Olympique Lyonnais, I think what we need to is maintain the high standards on an individual and collective level to win titles but especially compete for titles. We have to win. We have to win and I think - last year we won one title out of three [won French league; lost UWCL final; lost Coupe de France semi-final]. It's - it's a review. We won some titles, but I think we could have won others. Now, it's like I said earlier, you have to ask yourself the right questions regarding the defeats we've had and why we didn't win the titles: "Why?" "What was missing?" So many questions. Obviously it's up to the technical staff as well, but also there is a new staff who came in. So some questions will be different. But I think as a player, you have to analyze what happened in the UWCL final, why didn't we win? Those are all things we need to do in order to move forward and come back stronger. Why not win more titles this year?"

When you rb posts which are anti-Kamala and seem to be urging US citizens not to vote for her unless they are happy to stand behind the USA's occupation of other countries/war, what is your preferred outcome? Do you want people to abstain from voting at all in November? Or to vote for Donald Trump who is much more pro-military than Harris and the Dems? I don't mean to slander you here. I am just curious of the intention of someone (who appears to be liberal) reposting things like that close to such a contentious election. Thanks.
Yknow I really want to take this in good faith but you folks make it so fucking hard. Believe it or not your options aren't "Trump, Kamala, or Abstain", and acting like they are is the whole goddamn issue. If as many of you whiny "but trump!!" fucks got your good senses about you and voted for someone with morals like the Jill Stein then we could stand half a chance of breaking even a little out of the fascism that we find ourselves in. A country with two choices thst are ultimately the same with a different face is a country with no choices.
And really, is it Anti-Kamala to share videos of her on her campaign trail where she explicitly says she's gonna add more funding to the military? Is it anti-Kamala to share her campaign promise to make the already stupid idea of a border even more concrete? Is it anti-Kamala to share when she shuts down any dissent even from her own party because the idea of serving the people is ridiculous to her when she could be serving the nebulous idea of the Democrats?
I share this shit cause if you want a republic like we have, and yes it's a republic not a democracy, you deserve a well fucking educated voting populace. Not one that acts like its fucking stanning for a pop star. I'd prefer Kamala win over trump, much like I'd prefer losing 4 of my toes to 5. But we cannot let the shit happen like in 2020 where all of you dumb fuck Vote Blue No Matter Who assholes were suddenly fine with kids in cages cause your guy was doing it. Were fine with forgoing science while a pandemic raged on cause it seemed like a victory for your guy. Were fine with pretending any attack on biden was just cause he was old and not cause he was a barely functional racist fuck who was and is actively funding a genocide. You dipshits talked so much about pushing him left but as soon as he was elected you decided any criticism was psyops and election interference because you can't stand the idea that maybe you're complicit in the empire you're a part of.
If you genuinly think my distaste for Kamala means I support TRUMP of all people when every issue I have with her is that she seems to agree with the guy on far too much , then buster I think you might just not be worth the fucking time of day. Go sit on that for a bit and grow a goddamn spine

This is why I came to dislike Gwenpool being turned into a mutant. She was easily ignored by everyone in charge of the X-Office and Marvel itself. There are just too many mutants, too many big names, too many characters both A-list and cult favorites to ever truly focus on all of them! Gwenpool as a result has gotten lost in the crowd, literally, as her biggest X-Books appearances have ALL been cameos or background shots. It was just easier to force her into limbo by making her a mutant. "We didn't kill her off or get rid of her," Marvel can say. "She's just a mutant now! And we got plenty of popular mutants, so we don't have to use her."
Now Kamala is facing the same problem, the same threat of being lost in the crowd and forgotten. Once everyone has absorbed the initial mutant shock, she'll fade into the background amid the mass of mutants that the X-Stans care more about than her anyway. They only wanted Kamala initially because they hated the Inhumans and wanted to claim her. Now the Inhumans are all but extinct in the Marvel Universe, and no one is rushing to save them it seems.
At the very least, Kamala will have company with Gwen when she's shuffled into the background as just another mutant among their multitudes. They can share FanFics off-panel, at least until someone comes to their senses and retcons all of this stupid crap. Maybe they finally get the team-up book they deserve.
Hey, I have to have some kind of positive outlook here!
One of the many things that suck about Kamala becoming a mutant is the fact that I don't really trust most of the current regime of writers doing X books right now to write Kamala well. Though it doesn't matter who writes her cause once she's a mutant and the whole resurrection thing is done she'll get maybe 6 months to a year of focus as the hot new mutant in the club before Marvel goes back to focusing on the A list mutants they always focus on and Kamala goes back to being given nothing and this whole death/resurrection just to anger fans is just going to look even worse than it already does

Hi! So with America Chavez being a featured character in MoM, that got me to wondering - did she and Stephen ever team up in the comics? Or is this purely an MCU thing? Thanks, and have a great day! :)
Greetings and thanks for asking!
No, I don't believe America has ever interacted with Stephen. Her connection is definitely cosmic instead of mystic in nature.
[Rant mode on]
Truth be told, I think America is here just to be a key to explore the multiverse, and this bothers me a lot because, well, can you see the MCU actually giving America an accurate background? With her mothers? With her own sexuality to be openly explored? She's completely isolated from what makes her the hero we know from the comics.
I could be wrong on that regard but... *sigh* it's already twice as problematic not casting an afrolatina actress to play her, and portray her as Mexican when she's actually Puerto Rican. I'll leave a thread on that and why this is important.
So yeah... America and Stephen belong to complete different worlds, and although this can work since Stephen is very good with young heroes in general (Kamala, Riri, Lunela, for instance), I'm quite worried about America and her identity on this movie.
[Rant mode off]
With that being said, I'm always eager to see Stephen teaming up with all kinds of heroes, and he's often used in many occasions because he can work as a support in any narrative, honestly. This is why he can work as a Defender or a member of any other team. Perhaps in future comic books since the movies kinda have a certain influence on them (but it has to be for the better, not for the worse, because yeah... This America is not cutting it, sorry).
Also apologies for the rant, there are many problematic things going on regarding this movie and I cannot pretend they're not happening. Which is sad for a Stephen stan but well, that's just life.
