+ Considering just how FAST she was capable of DRIVING her motorcycle, it was a MIRACLE anyone would agree to ride with her . But then again, MJ suspected there weren't MANY who could claim they'd gotten as many trips WEB-SWINGING as she already had in so short a time . Perhaps it was the RUSH she got every time from BOTH that kept her coming back for more . Although she couldn't deny that in BOTH cases , having Peter's arms around her did make her feel like she could take on the WORLD .

" Why, funny you ask , MR. PARKER , but I thought maybe we could SPLIT a pizza . Long as you're alright with my HALF being Hawaiian. " she teased with a SMILE , even though she was completely SERIOUS about that condition . Some of her FRIENDS would surely have thrown a FIT about her choice in topping . But anyone that had spent more than FIVE minutes in a room with Mary Jane already knew the EASE with which she could be BOLD .

" Besides, it's CLOSE enough to an ALLEY , in case ... you know , you have to change . " she added, voice dropping a touch in VOLUME . Truthfully, the POSSIBILITY of a certain ALTER-EGO being needed was something she had taken into account with PLANNING . If one could even call the IDEAS tumbling around in her head about the evening a proper PLAN .

For a moment Peter wasn't sure what she meant before blinking, the surprise of the question threw him off more than he'd expected, "Motorcycle, right. Yeah, that's fine with me if you wanna drive." he sure wouldn't have any idea how to drive it anyways, and didn't have a reason why it would bother him. Riding behind MJ wasn't an issue either, it wasn't like keeping his balance had been a problem for Peter for a while now. Web swinging was of course an option too, it wasn't like he'd never used that mode of transport to get to a date before. Back when he actually had them, it felt like a whole other life ago by now. One of the parts he'd been avoiding, one of those Peter Parker things he'd kept trying not to let himself have time for now staring back at him. Smiling back at him and lit up like it was the best news given all week.

He'd expected himself to be more scared at the idea. To be terrified of it, and just like the kiss up on the roof he was. Of the what if questions making up the background noise, of letting this pass by, or taking the plunge, or what kind of trouble it would bring Mary Jane if he did. If he had any right to put her in that kind of situation, knowing exactly how bad it could really get. It was loud and overwhelming and Peter kept waiting for that moment to come where he thought twice, pulled back, tried to put distance between them and let her find something better. Anything better. Anyone better.

It didn't come, no matter how many seconds kept passing it didn't come. Just like when they'd been out on the roof outside of his window. Instead he found himself smiling back and it felt just as real now as it had all those nights ago, found himself looking forward to it, and excited. Happy. Peter pulled the other strap of his backpack on and shrugged, "So, does that mean you have a place in mind for dinner already? And just as importantly does the place have a dress code I should know and panic about? My options are kinda limited to what can be shoved in a bag without worrying about it and...you know...spandex."

+ Things in her life had never been PERFECT . As much as she had wished and wished for them to be . At times, she'd felt like she could have WRAPPED herself up in those fantasies , where everything worked out just right and the sun never FADED . Sometimes it had been so close that she swore her FINGERTIPS had brushed against them . Only for REALITY to quickly send her CRASHING back down to Earth . Because as much as she would have LOVED to live those images of a PERFECT life, Mary Jane knew ultimately they were just that .

Fantasies that would never be .

" I shouldn't have said that . " she answered, shaking her head as she continued to stand in the DOORWAY . Part of her expected rejection ; to have finally hit that point where there could be NO RETURN . Somehow, she ALWAYS managed to hurt the one she loved . Even when she didn't KNOW it . But the GUILT she felt now made it clear enough that it almost felt like she couldn't BREATHE .

" Peter , I ... " she started, suddenly feeling her mouth go as DRY as a bone . " I don't want to do this anymore . This CYCLE we're stuck in . I'm tired of RUNNING every time things get tough . "

Something halfway between a SOB almost made the ESCAPE from her lips as she shook her head. " I NEED you , Peter. I'm sorry I keep MESSING that up. "

He hadn’t been expecting her. Not after another one of their messy breakups that had led to MJ demanding he leave her home. This argument in particular had gotten heated pretty quick, harsh words exchanged by both parties, leaving Peter once again single. Yet here MJ stood a few feet away from him, wearing the same defeated look on her features as he did. ‘I do need you. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t.’ That’s not what she’d told him earlier. The complete opposite, actually. And as much as Peter knew words could be spat in the heat of the moment? That didn’t make the impact of them hurt any less.

“Earlier you said you didn’t wanna see me again. Changed your mind?” His voice was devoid of frustration. If anything, he sounded dejected.

They couldn’t keep doing this. It wasn’t healthy for either of them. But Peter knew he wouldn’t ever be the one to walk away from her for good. He couldn’t. Because despite all of their bad days? They had plenty of good ones. Plus, Peter loved her. “Look, MJ.. I don’t wanna fight anymore. I’m actually really glad you stopped by.” It was as Aunt May and Uncle Ben had told him many times before — if you want to make something work, you have to keep at it. No relationship was perfect, and that was okay as long as you give it your all.
