Tbh, Ilana is someone who should've been fleshed out more. Thanks to CN dropping the ball, we may not known where her story goes from here. Like rewatching the series again and I do like her introduction and the way she carries herself. I need to finish watching the series again.
[ok so its been a bit since i watched the whole series front to bottom as i've been occasionally been watching it out of order so take this opinion atm with a grain of salt]
ok for real i was so ready for the bigger Ilana episodes because she has some heavy survivors guilt, homesickness, and some balancing to do with being a selfless princess and being mildly overbearing sometimes and frustrated with her endeavors falling short.
i absolutely love the way she carries herself too and sbt has such a strong sense of personality for the m.c's that she has very good dynamics and never loses her place in the trio. she is fun and fascinating to watch.
but while the series does well in unwinding lance from thinking that he's useless if he isn't fighting at least by 50%[ developed by his strong relationship to the other 2 to help him get out of his own head and TRULY think of whats best for them all and WHEN to fight] , and octus growing into his own personhood has reached the nice middle point by the final episode with his face being the center instead of his metal core [and fresh unique dynamics with kimmy and meat to show how he can be more than whatever he was meant for], a lot of Ilana's stuff feels like it is in the seed and growing phase still. like more than them.
she wants to be the leader she is but its harder to do in this high school so...? how will this affect her arc because she is going to go back at one point because she's a princess? what is the more positive arc she's having by being here vs being at home?
she misses home!...something that will be handled in the future... but its middle ground atm is the ball with a galaluna theme that has her finding the homecoming committee to help her capture some peace for the moment
and again she remains an absolute unit of a character because even if some of the bigger questions are up in the air because she has such a strong personality and presence and does get some smaller problems worked on via group development because the group dynamic is strong <3
she feels like all she ever does is try with lance but they still work out their relationship due to octus stepping in and saying yeah... both of you keep trying but not by snipping at each other about how much you DON'T understand each other! and there is like so many points where its clear she's lost in interacting with him that feel like her status as a princess as a complication might be brought to the forefront later [like lance bringing up that he does feel that people "like her" could never understand him and Ilana does have his reputation at the ready in the starting episodes vs them being closer but being reminded that his job is to protect her]
as the series proceeds they HAVE become closer [stuff like the chill hangout/doing the project together/ and lance dancing with her because yes the princess misses her home/and close enough that ilana can try to be supportive of his passions like in disenfranchised...key word try.] they even are united in their love for octus. they have slowly been overcoming that idea that they could never have anything in common.
and maybe as a princess the war tore that one boy she liked away [ and the whole episode is even her turning into a monster against her will] but as a student she can try to have something low stakes and sweet [and again how is that going to measure to up to her having to return? what change has happened that will be more challenged by the return to galaluna or even just by who she used to be]
and again octus not just being a tool her father gave her but a true friend she loves
the minor "some rules are ok to break" episode and little moments like maybe her being demanding of lance's nightmare and then apologetic when she hears it or her leadership skills with announcing the phone number coming in handy even if lance does ask her to tone it down, all the support that octus gives her as her fellow bottom of the barrel pal
so basically its not like NOTHING is being done with her its just that the payoff to these developments isn't as super clear as octus and lance's atm [imo]...and never will be WHY CN?
partically because its easier to pinpoint why being on earth is good for lance and octus [again imo]
CN really did drop the ball because i heard somewhere the next 10 episodes were already written??! i want to seeeeeeeeeeeee T.T
i really do have to properly rewatch the series again.

# PEARLNOBLE : an independent original character SHEI YUHAN from gennedy tartakovsky's animated show -- SYM BIONIC TITAN. governed by moe.
𝙸𝙽𝚃𝚁𝙾𝙳𝚄𝙲𝚃𝙸𝙾𝙽. my name is moe (she/her) twenty-three. I am black and cherokee indian. I am undiagnosed with ADHD and so that means that my activity on this blog is medium to low, especially since I have multiple blogs for other canon and original characters.
𝚆𝚁𝙸𝚃𝙸𝙽𝙶 𝚂𝚃𝚈𝙻𝙴. my style of writing will vary throughout my storytelling on this blog but what will remain is the icons and small text. My mutuals are not required to use icons with their replies or even match my choice of text size -- all I ask is to make the replies easy to read and understand.
𝙼𝙰𝚃𝚄𝚁𝙴 𝙲𝙾𝙽𝚃𝙴𝙽𝚃. this blog will feature dark and triggering content not suitable for the easily triggered. The following content goes as said: death, parental death, murder, political corruption, espionage, child death, pregnancy / childbirth / miscarriage, genocide, massacres, blackmail, numerous war crimes, etc. Everything will be tagged accordingly.
𝙵𝙾𝙻𝙻𝙾𝚆𝙸𝙽𝙶. I don't always follow everyone back, it's absolutely nothing personal. I just don't see how our muses could interact. If you want to plot with me please come with an idea of some kind -- otherwise I won't be interested.
𝚄𝙽𝙵𝙾𝙻𝙻𝙾𝚆𝙸𝙽𝙶. I usually soft block if I don't want to follow someone anymore or they make me uncomfortable. The same is applied for me, block me if I make you uncomfortable or you don't have an interest in following me anymore, there won't be any hard feelings.
COMMUNICATION. That being said however, I am a strong advocate for communicating with my partners. You need to tell me upfront if I've done something that made you uncomfortable. Otherwise, I won't know and therefore can't correct myself or maturely address the issue.
Before she became the imperial wife of Emperor Shang, Shei Yuhan started out as a war orphan stricken by poverty like many others. Taken in from the cold and harsh elements of the planet Ethora, Shei underwent intense training in the art of being an assassin a female teacher that would later be revealed to be the Late Empress Yan Qhe -- the mother of her future husband, Shang Qhe.
From palace servant to an imperial guard, a tenacious and quick witted Shei grew close to Prince Shang during the years they spent together and gained a praised favor from his father, Grand Emperor Don Xhao who trusted her enough spy between his imperial wives for any ulterior motives and scheming out of concern for the safety of his son. Ethora and Galaluna secured an alliance between their respective planets and their military. Prince Shang has known Princess Ilana since they were young children and he has a great deal of respect to the princess.
coming soon.
Coming soon.

hey ilana, did you know that there's other teens out there kind of like you and lance? saving the world, having to deal with their evil parents and school, all the while having to deal with an extreme amount of stress every day? any thoughts?
“ Wait, really? ” the blond blinked several times. Other teens saving the day on a daily basis….she gasped out loud.
“ Wonderful! Do you know any in particular? I would love to talk to them!” This was amazing. She had to find these people. Maybe even ask them what’s it like for them individually, knowing they aren’t alone on this. And to think that her own family was the only ‘abnormal heroes trying to blend in’ amongst the general norm. It was nice to know that.

My Talk: Sym-Bionic Titan
To form as the giant robot named Sym-Bionic Titan, they must unite with heart, body, and mind. This is the reflection of Sym-Bionic Titan.
I was aware of the show because of its cancellation which I'll get into later. However, this is a Genndy Tartakovsky project. I was interested to see what else Genndy has done besides Samurai Jack. Thankfully, Netflix allowed the show to stream for a while, and I got a chance to see it.
Plot: We follow three people who escaped their home planet, Galaluna, from a war. They live on Earth and fit in as high school teenagers. Whenever danger is near, they form as Sym-Bionic Titan and defeat any enemy who threatens harm against the world.
Characters: The main characters are Lance, llana, and Octus. They crash landed onto Earth to avoid the villain who caused the war on Galaluna. Lance is a solider who was ordered to protect Ilana. Ilana is the princess of Galaluna, and Octus is a bio-cybernetic robot who assist with Lance and Ilana. They all live together as high schoolers while Octus also disguise himself as the father when they're not in a social, high school setting. The other characters in the show either are classmates, enemies, and possibly allies.
Animation: The thing I love about the show is the animation. It is gorgeous to look at, the action scenes were executed perfectly, and the style resembles the likeness of mecha anime. Genndy always puts a lot of effort into the way his shows look, and Sym-Bionic Titan was wonderful. I love it for its colors and distinctive style.
Cancellation and why I’ll never get a conclusion: I didn't give a lot about the show because the show wasn't able to finish. Cartoon Network decided to cancel the show due to its lack of making toys. The excuse for canceling a show because you couldn't make merch off of it is one of the stupidest decisions a network can make. I know business is money, but oh my gosh! That was absolutely disheartening. I get more and more upset about it because of the potential we could have got. Genndy even said there was 10 episodes written for the show before the cancellation. I wish Cartoon Network didn't write the show off as a tax loss because I would have love for Sym-Bionic Titan to conclude their story. The show doesn't end on a cliffhanger, but there are many questions left unanswered.
Sym-Bionic Titan came at the wrong time. I bet if the show was pitched to streaming sites or Cartoon Network took better care of their shows that Sym-Bionic Titan would have run a little longer. Despite the cancellation, the show was still cool to watch.

“ You look like a kind robot guy- I’ll take it. ” Ilana grinned, hugging the taller mech.
Gently sets a card that says ‘free hugs’ on the desk in front of him.

On this day ten years ago, Cartoon Network premiered what could have been one of the most iconic series of the decade. It was called Sym-Bionic Titan, and featured a rebellious teenage soldier named Lance (left), a shape shifting robot named Octus (middle), and a teenage princess named Ilana (right). They escape their war torn home planet of Galaluna, but the force that overtook that finds them on earth. So the three battle the alien monsters with the fusion of their armor and conciousness called the titan (in the background). The show was truly unique in how it made the daily life of the main characters the driving force of the story, and Genndy Tartakovsky (creator of Dexters Laboratory, Samurai Jack, and director of the Hotel Transylvania movies) made the series as a tribute to mecha anime of the 60's and teenage dramas of the 80's. It also felt ahead of its time, as some stories wouldn't have felt out of place in Steven Universe and Voltron Legendary Defender.
Unfortunately, Cartoon Network cancelled the series after just 20 episodes because it didn't meet the same popularity as Ben 10 and Star Wars The Clone Wars, a fate that would befall other shows in coming years. Though the series didn't end on a bad note, it did leave multiple questions unanswered.
Now that it has been 10 years, fans still hope that the series could find new life again. Genndy stated that he hopes to continue the series again, saying that he "learned to never say never" in the animation industry, and give the show another season on Adult Swim. If you get the chance, give Sym-Bionic Titan a look on Netflix. You will be hooked, I guarantee it.

Some more drawings of Galaluna’s favorite princess!
I am convinced that Ilana is a sucker for cheesy romances novels. She was hooked on that teen-drama show after all.

I get why Ilana likes Sherman. I mean, she's a princess back in Galaluna. Which means people around her must've been very formal and appeasing with her. She's probably never been in an environment so full of people that consider her an equal. So I can see why she's happy to receive honest feedback about her.
On the other hand, I also feel for Lance. I mean, think about it: he spent god knows how many years rotting away in a dog eat dog academy but finally, he graduated only for shit to immediately hit the fan and before he knows what's going on he's back in school. Only now there's no combat training. Yeah, I'd be pent up and fed up too.

Webcomics Focus: "Chroma Key"
Chroma Key tells the story of five teenagers who are chosen to save the world from an imminent invasion by aliens.
Reprinted from The Geekiary, my History Hermann WordPress blog, and Wayback Machine. This was the twenty-fifth article I wrote for The Geekiary. This post was originally published on January 12, 2022. Also, this post has been slightly changed from the original.
Chroma Key, by Brandon Dumas, is a LGBTQ drama. It centers around five childhood friends, Kim Koizumi, April Robinson, Fuchsia Simmns, Parker Flores, and Emily Ivanov, who love a live-action superhero show. They are recruited by an alien refugee named Luna, who tells them to defeat a bloodthirsty monster and work to defend the Earth- all while reconciling their friendship with one another.
As a warning, this review discusses some spoilers for Chroma Key! Also, please note that this review discusses trauma, transphobia, and child abuse.
The story begins with Kim, April, Fuchsia, Parker, and Emily watching a live-action superhero show, Super Fighting Mighty Fighters, as kids. Years later, something brings all of the protagonists (who haven't seen each other for years) together: a set of rings. The story goes on from there as they try to deal with this newfound responsibility and suit up to fight aliens after meeting a sympathetic alien named Luna.
April and Kim are able to stay together due to the power of friendship
Chroma Key has compelling characters and storylines. I especially like LGBTQ stories, especially those with characters with superpowers such as Steven Universe, Young Justice, and The Hollow. This story has similar elements, with the characters thrown into having to use their powers, unsure if they even want to use them or not, and a being trying to guide them in using those powers, a bit like Light Hope in She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, but also having similarities to the Japanese Tokusatsu tradition.
It's funny that this guide, Luma, is a fan of the childhood favorite show of the protagonists. She shapes their powers and suits like that, around a substance known as chroma. I liked how she gave them a choice and didn't force them to become heroes, saying she wouldn't blame them if they walked away. They all agree, although some obviously agree more willingly than others, later testing their powers.
This is supported by wonderful illustrations and backstory. It makes me think of the royalty who fled Acardian 5 in 3Below, or Ilana, Lance, and Octus who flee their homeworld of Galaluna, or even of the cloud city in Empire Strikes Back. It was interesting to see Luna be inspired by a fictional show to fight back against the invading bloodthirsty monsters, the Uorari. This is not the typical reason that some will fight against villains.
It's also mysterious she had a dream of the protagonists, although the reason for that dream is not explained. The monsters remind me of the Nemesi in gen:LOCK, although these probably aren't digital copies of someone like in that show.
We do get a look at the mysterious Black Ranger, also known as Edgelord. We see a being that looks like Luna saying everything is going as planned. If the comic continues it will be interesting to see this revealed in the future. If not, it will remain an intriguing mystery!
There are several diverse characters in the main cast. For instance, 17-year-old Kim is aromantic and asexual, Emily is a deaf person who uses sign language, and April is a lesbian who has a crush on an older woman. Emily has a crush on Adrienne Oladipo from early in the series, who has progressive hearing loss and can also use sign language. Both are bisexual or pansexual and shown in a clearly romantic relationship.
Emily was born with Type II Waardenburg syndrome which is characterized by moderate-to-profound hearing loss. Her hearing loss is moderate. This means that, according to Dumas, "with a hearing aid she can follow conversations reasonably well, though not perfectly, especially when the person speaking is not facing her," and can engage in verbal speech but prefers sign language.
There is continued tension between Kim and April, as they fight with one another, and she has issues with anger management. Kim, who comes from a family with abusive parents, bonds with her.
There are two trans main characters. Parker describes their gender as the beginning of the Guns & Roses song, "Welcome to the Jungle." They deal with transphobia and have a snake. Fuchsia is a trans woman with pink hair, who is also affected by transphobia and has an abusive father.
Parker and Fuchsia undoubtedly experience trauma from their near-death experiences, as do the other Mighty Rangers. Even so, they unite over their shared experiences as superheroes of sorts in this sci-fi coming of age story.
While Kim helps bring the group together, she begins to lash out against Fuchsia, who is also non-binary, by using the wrong pronouns for them. The group begins to fall apart. Hopefully, future parts of the comic, will also expand upon the relationship between Emily and Adrienne, with Emily thinking of inviting Adrienne into the group.
Chroma Key, is written by non-binary writer Brandon Dumas and illustrated by Laura Reyes (also known as BioAtomic), a non-binary Mexican-American character artist. The series has over 130 episodes. Reyes also has a young adult LGBTQ sci-fi drama webcomic named Don't Worry Teri!, while this series is the first published work for Dumas.
Chroma Key began being posted on Line Webtoon in April 2018 and is in a book format. It is not to be confused with the electonica, ambient, and trip hop band of the same name. It references other series, like Transformers, the Power Rangers, the new She-Ra, Steven Universe, and Adventure Time.
The series has been on hiatus since June 2021. Dumas said it will not "return for a while" due to personal circumstances. Dumas discussed the subject at length in a May 2021 interview with Estaban, a lover of queer comics.
Emily and Adrienne kiss each other in the third chapter. It is the last issue of the comic which has been posted to date.
Chroma Key is available to read on the Webtoon Canvas and Tapas.
You can find Reyes on Twitter, Instagram, and Tumblr, and Dumas on Twitter, Tumblr, and Tapas. You can also check out the official Twitter for the comic and support the comic on Patreon. You can also buy volume 1 of the comic on IndyPlanet or ask BioAtomic for commissions.

Symbionic Titan AU idea
Ok so imagine Ilana was sent to earth as a baby. She grew up like earthlings, no idea of her lineage. Just knows that she is adopted. Lance is trained for the day he is to go retrieve her and prepare her to come back to Galaluna. On his way there along with Octus, Modula strikes the kingdom then but a stress beacon managed to get to octus telling them to guard the princess and stay out for now First Lance and Octus have to locate Ilana, who is trying to make more friends in high school but is still quirky Then Lance and Octus have to reveal and explain to Ilana who she is (which she doesn't believe until the first mutraddi attack) So then! Ilana has to learn how to use her Corus Armor and get on the same level with Lance and Octus

"My word...! Excuse me young miss, but may I ask about your outfit? It's so beautiful!" Inquisitive about the fashion sense of humans (or what the techno-organic believed to be a human), the unknown heir to the Decepticon reign knelt on both legs, peering down at Ilana with such genuine fascination. "I believe Mistress Sari would ever so love such a design, and I'd like to gift something like your outfit to her this holiday season!" [Jeloxa]
The Galalunian princess gasped in awe, the sight of the tall pink fembot…it looked…robotic but mostly…organic. It was truly a wonderful sight. Ilana blinked a few times, trying to find her words. This was her first encounter with another sentient robot.
“ Oh my gosh, thank you! It’s my traditional royal gown. you see, I’m a princess, from a faraway planet called Galaluna.” She inspected the other’s attire, or well, it looked like clothing on them. “ I love your dress too! Are you an ocean princess? ”

Blood-red optics stared down the alien royalty, denta bared at the woman for only a brief moment, before merely kneeling down on a single knee, continuing his ceaseless gaze. Though a creature of habit, Cobrator knew organics far too well, and this girl's eyes, they reflected his own sister's pure, vibrant soul. Seeing such a delicate sight set off the beast's protective instincts and so, Ilana promptly had been scooped up in large servos. "These woods are not safe, not by oneself, little one."
This was already such a lively day, but it only took another encounter that truly astounded the Galalunian princess. She gasped, in sight of a large…serpent-like mech. How many of these sentient robots roamed the earth? Were they human-made? Aliens? Earth inhabitants?
She yelped as the other large mech had picked her up. She was now a few feet in the air. Not sure it was a good time to activate her armor. This mech…creature, wasn’t exactly being a threat. But, giving her advice…
“ Oh–I, I’ll be fine…but, thank–you.” she gawked. Okay, she should get used to this already. They faced giant beings all the time for Galaluna’s sake. Why was this any more different?
