So I was thinking about Claire Redfield (as you do) and how much of an insane badass she is for not only holding her own in Raccoon City, but also protecting a child throughout the entire nightmare, and specifically how, for all intents and purposes, Claire in Resident Evil 2 during Raccoon City and Ashley in Resident Evil 4 are the closest thing to peers that they have.

Both of them are college-aged girls with zero combat/survival experience who've been dropped into a zombie-infested hellhole and have to find their way out, but Ashley is so starkly different of a character to Claire.

From a writing standpoint, Ashley is a very literal damsel in distress character. She's young, she's inexperienced, and she does, in fact, need a man to save her (no shade, I'd probably need Leon and his rippling abs to save me too). Now, she does grow significantly as a character throughout the events of the fourth game, and even gets to save Leon a couple of times, but she's still very much a young girl in need of help

Now, in comparison, Claire Redfield is a damsel in distress in the same way Meg from Hercules is

Claire is actually canonically younger in Resident Evil 2 than Ashley is in 4, being only 19, but goddamn is this girl not going to let that stop her. And while Claire does have a bit more skill with self-defense, all that really adds up to is forcing Chris to teach her knife fighting and probably going to the shooting range with him a couple of times. Claire is very confident in herself, but she doesn't have much real world experience to back that up. Girl rode her motorcycle into a zombie-infested city with nothing but a gun (where did she get this gun? We don't know) to do a welfare check on her brother and came out less scathed than the literal cop she made friends with.

And then, there's Sherry. Claire finds a random child hiding in the police station, saying that she's looking for her mom, and makes it her personal mission to protect her at all costs. And when said girl gets taken by the literal chief of police? Claire grabs her grenade launcher and decides that's gonna be his problem because by god is she taking care of that little girl.

By the time they make it out of the city Sherry might as well be Claire's biological daughter, and she is not about to let anything happen to her (forthcoming events out of her control notwithstanding)

Which, in a way, honestly I think makes 19-year-old Claire Redfield actually a closer peer to Ethan Winters.

Ethan is a nearly 30-year-old man who works an office job (I think he's IT?) and whose wife went missing a few years ago. When he finds out she's actually alive he grabs a flashlight and hops in his car to drive to Louisiana to bring her home.

This man finds out that his wife has been possessed, and he doesn't give a shit. He loves her. He made a vow to care for and protect her, and by god is he going to test the limits of 'til death do us part. He takes on an entire family of fucked up hillbillies and literal mold demons to bring her home. And when he does? They have a daughter, and Ethan is ready to sacrifice the world for her too.

All of Resident Evil 8 is just him fighting a pantheon of demons to save his baby girl armed with nothing but a gun he grabbed off a dead guy (he's from Texas, so I'm not gonna question it) and his innate knowledge of how to make life-saving elixirs. And yes, he does save both his wife and his daughter

Idk, I just think it's interesting that Claire and Ashley are so similar in age and life experience, but Claire winds up having the most in common with the Awkward Suburban Dad in the end

Getting in the Mood for CleonWeek with a Leon Study: How Each Version of Leon Would React to Claire Asking for the D

It’s almost CleonWeek, which means it’s time to dive deep into our favorite couple—Claire and Leon! Now, while Claire’s been consistently badass throughout the years, Leon... well, Leon’s gone through quite the glow-up (and occasional glow-down). Depending on the game, movie, or platform, he’s either a fresh-faced rookie or a grizzled veteran with a questionable amount of hair gel and alcohol in his system.

So, let’s play a little game and imagine how the many different versions of Leon would react to the ultimate request:

Rookie Leon

Claire: (in a low, frustrated voice) “Leon… I need you to fuck me.”

(Leon blinks, caught completely off guard by the directness. His eyes widen, and his mouth opens as if he’s about to say something but no words come out. A flush creeps up his neck, and he runs a hand through his hair awkwardly.)

Leon: “W-Wait, what? You—uh… I mean, are you… serious?”

(His voice cracks slightly, his usual composure shattered. He shifts his weight from one foot to the other, looking at Claire like he's not sure if he's supposed to laugh, panic, or melt on the spot.)

Claire: (staring at him intensely, biting her lip) “Yes. I’m serious.”

(Leon swallows hard, his heart pounding. His thoughts race, the tension between them electric and undeniable. He takes a small step toward her, still unsure if this is really happening.)

Leon: “I… I mean, if you really… Are you sure you’re okay? I just—wow. Okay.”

(He lets out a nervous laugh, his voice trailing off, but there’s a heat in his eyes now as he looks at her, his uncertainty melting into something much bolder.)

Leon: “Because if this is what you want… I’m not gonna say no.”

(His hands move to her waist, hesitantly at first, before pulling her close, the tension between them snapping like a thread pulled too tight.)

Vendetta Leon

Claire: (Her voice low and breathless, eyes dark with desire.) “Leon… I need you to fuck me.”

(Leon pauses mid-movement, his sharp blue eyes locking onto hers. There’s a flicker of surprise, but it’s quickly replaced by something darker, more primal. He straightens up, rolling his shoulders slightly, that familiar cocky smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.)

Leon: (voice low and gravelly) “You sure about that, Claire?”

(He steps closer, his presence intense, radiating heat and confidence. His hand brushes along her arm, almost teasingly slow, as he leans in, his lips inches from hers. He watches her, his gaze hard and penetrating, waiting for her to give in completely.)

Claire: (She holds his gaze, unflinching, her voice almost a growl.) “Yeah, I’m sure.”

(Leon’s smirk deepens. He grabs her waist with a sudden roughness, pulling her against him. His breath is hot against her ear as he speaks.)

Leon: “Good�� because I don’t do anything halfway.”

(Without another word, he kisses her, hard and hungry, all hesitation gone as he pushes her back against the wall. His hands roam her body with purpose, his grip firm, and his movements decisive—like a man who knows exactly what he wants and how to get it.)

Death Island Leon

Claire: (Her voice low, a mix of frustration and longing.) “Leon… I need you to fuck me.”

(Leon freezes, his usual stoic expression faltering for a second. He stares at her, processing the words, clearly caught off guard. His eyes narrow slightly as if trying to gauge if she really means it, the weight of everything between them hanging heavy in the air.)

Leon: (in a quiet, serious tone) “Claire… are you sure?”

(There’s no smirk, no cockiness—just raw intensity in his eyes as he steps closer. He’s cautious, almost hesitant, like he’s fighting the tension in his own body. His hand hovers near her waist, not quite touching her, waiting for her to confirm what they both know is about to happen.)

Claire: (She steps closer, her eyes locked on his, unwavering.) “Yes. I’m sure.”

(Leon lets out a slow breath, his face softening, though his jaw tightens with the restraint he’s trying to maintain. He moves in, his hand sliding to her hip, firm but careful, as if he's trying not to lose control too fast.)

Leon: (his voice low and husky now, eyes searching hers) “Alright… but this isn’t just some moment we’ll forget about. You know that, right?”

(He pulls her closer, his grip tightening, and the intensity between them spikes as his lips brush against hers. He holds back for just a second longer, searching her face for any doubt, before finally giving in, his kiss deep, desperate, and laced with all the emotion he’s been holding back.)

Leon: (murmuring against her lips) “I’ve wanted this for a long time, Claire…”

There was something different in his face, something off and without thinking about it, Jill tilted her head and studied him for a moment without answering.

The silence that lengthened between them was oddly peaceful while she thought.

He still had on his sunglasses, which was an oddity for him in his own home. Even the office only had one domed light within the space, and it cast shadows across both of their faces.

"What is it?" Wesker asked as he leaned forward slightly and brought his right hand to rest along his thigh. He still wore his black gloves and ever so gently, his four fingers rubbed against his thumb in a circular motion while he watched her.

"Captain, as impeccable as you are with reading silences, you do have some of your own tells," she answered next.

"Do I?" he mused before his thumb and forefinger paused. As if he already knew.

"Mhm," she continued, daring to reach her hand forward to grab his. "They used to train me to hunt men like you, you know."

The button to his right leather glove popped gently in her fingers while she lifted her eyes to where she thought his were behind the sunglasses.

With her fingers pulling the glove off slowly, she continued, "Men who yell, threaten, and make noise either go for distraction or display." Her smile was a closed envelope "Either suits me. If I could hear them, I could find them." The glove dropped to the floor.

"But you, captain?" The button for his left glove came undone. "I have to find you, and when I do, I simply watch." The skin of his palms was calloused as the pads of her fingers trailed after the material. "And what I see is sometimes the loudest of them all."

His fingers enclosed over hers before she could pull it back.

They sat facing one another in their chairs. Captain Wesker leaned forward further, and she didn't think she imagined the husky tone that came next.

"And what do you see?"

"You're in pain," she answered before her hand pulled from his and she slowly reached up for the sunglasses.

When he caught her wrist, she flinched from the speed but relaxed when she heard his exhale.

"Don't." He lowered her hand from his face. "Full marks for perception. You've found me at a disadvantage, but surely a headache isn't all you've figured out."

"No," she agreed with a pointed look that flashed his way. "But I'd rather see your eyes when I tell you that."

"I'm sure you would," he obliged in a drawl before he released her arm. "Let me see your reports."
