🧡Alice/017 X Imagnairy Reader🖤
You Worked at the Cabin Fever Labs before it all went to hell, You and your wife, Alice also known as 017 along with your child BeauBut when the Cabin Fever Labs did go down You were ripped apart by the Anti-drone sentinels causing Alice to go slightly crazy but now...after a few years She likes to pretend you are still there with her...
She walked into one of the operation rooms where she saw 'You' sitting on one of the hospital beds reading a book "Heya Dollface!" Alice exclaimed
"Alice!" You exclaimed putting your book away "Darling How was you're day?" You asked
"Grrreat Dear!" Alice replied "I killed some drones that came through the vents and cut 'em up! Even got some parts to make myself bigger!" Alice explained excitedly
"Now, come here Dear, I got some big ol' kisses for you" Alice said walking over to the bed before grabbing you and pinning you down and kissing you aggressively "I've missed you my dollface!
"You kissed back and smiled "I Missed you as well dear" you replied with a small blush on you're screen
Alice's kisses got longer and more passionate "So, what were ya reading about?" Alice asked "Some kinda depressing book?" Alice added "I hate depressing stuff...except when its me causing the depressing effects!" Alice joked
You chuckled "It is quite depressing! I believe its an Edgar Allen Poe book too?" You said glancing at the book "But seriously What's up with the guy and dead chicks?" You aughed
"Not a clue Love! But hey, at least its entertaining!" Alice said "I mean, its better than a lot of the lame sappy love books out there these days..." Alice said glancing at her wedding ring
You nodded but didn't reply for a moment "Alice...do you sometimes feel as if...you aren't real?" You asked randomly
"Huh? What are ya on about love? I'm as real as you are?" Alice said with a confused sigh "Sometimes you act...odd, love...." Alice said "I hope you're okay?" Alice said with worry and confusion on her face
"I just feel...well it's odd but I feel as if I'm not real?" You sighed "Odd isn't it?" You chuckled
Alice tilted her head "Well...I can assure you, you are very real" Alice said before thinking for a moment "Now, I got a question for ya, why do you think that?" Alice said before she started scratching and repairing one of her legs
"I-i don't know..." You mumbled "It's like-...it's like I'm not real and well...imaginary?" You said
Alice sat there trying to process what you said "...well, that's....kinda crazy talk, Sweetie!" Alice said while still sounding confused and concerned "Do you have any idea why you're even thinking like that Love?""No..." You replied "But It sometimes feels that way...Like i-" You paused "Like I'm dead" You muttered
Alice stared at you before putting her hand on your cheek "Darling....I'm not sure what could be the cause of these crazy thoughts of yours" Alice said lovingly "...I can assure you, you are far from dead, you're alive and I'm proud to call ya my wife" Alice said kissing your cheek
You leaned into her touch "Your right darling...I don't know what I was thinking" You smiledAlice kept kissing your cheek and smiling
"Hey, you can tell me anything ok love? I'm here for ya" Alice said "Now...why dont we watch one of those silly sappy romance movies? The worst ones we can find and just turn our brains off and watch some bad acting?" Alice said with a giggle "What do ya say?"
You laughed "Yeah" You replied "That sounds nice" You added
Alice smiled before standing up and offering her hand "Alright, well come on, Let's go pick something super sappy and cheesy to watch" Alice said "We'll just be lazy and cuddle in bed all night".....
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
Uzi unleashes her AbsoluteSolver to destroy the door buttons, thus opening the doors and giving the Sentinels more free roaming in the area
The Sentinels make their way to Alice's room However Alice slowly closes the door before the Sentinels show up "BEAU! HELP ME WITH-" Alice cried but It's too late As The Sentinels are here now
Alice is flashed and paralyzed as the Sentinels enter the room, crushing Alice under their feet, thus getting rid of her for good.....

@iloveitxwhenaplanxcomestogether (Amy Allen)
A man’s image can really take him far… so it irks Face to no end that his private investigator’s office is in an old apartment building situated over a little stationary store, and two doors down from a pizza restaurant. It also annoys him that he spends too much time in his day fighting off the urge to buy one of the pizzas that his neighbor offers. Flopping down in his chair, ignoring the way it squeaks and leans a bit too far under his weight for his comfort, Face runs a hand down his face. A meticulous man about paperwork, he has carefully filed the information about his last two cases, and made the proper notes in his accounting book. He always handles his own bookkeeping—Mena is good at greeting people in the front office and answering the phones, but they both know his head for numbers completely surpasses hers. Mena is still on her lunch though, and he suspects she will be on it for a while. She has a new beau. This one actually seems like a decent human being, and he should know because he did a background check already, so Face is in no urge to break this rendezvous up too quickly. Perhaps he should think about his own lunch… The process of reminding himself that he does not need another pizza is interrupted by the sound of the front door opening. Curious, since he has no clients scheduled to come in this afternoon, Face pulls himself out of his chair, and sticks his head into the waiting area. “Hello?”
The brunette is the room’s sole occupant, so he figures catching her attention will not be hard. “Did you have an appointment? Or did you see one of my ads in the paper?” Face steps fully into the lobby, always happy to see a beautiful woman, and hopeful that the ad he placed in the LA Courier’s classified section is finally gaining some traction.

For the movie asks: 1, 4, 18, 19 :)
Yay, thanks! I love thinking about movies.
1. Your favorite movie released this year: Beau Is Afraid weakened in the last act, but built up so much good will before that I forgive it. It was definitely my most interesting new film of the year and the surreal comedy elements were very good.
4. A movie you like but wouldn't recommend: Maybe Croupier? I sincerely enjoy it, but it's about a morally bankrupt guy reveling in his amorality. I'm also not sure if it's really good, or just okay and scratches a narrative/tonal itch I have.
18. A movie you never wanna hear about again: Mirror Mask is a pretty bad film, but despite warnings from me, my friends insisted we watch it. Seeing it twice was two times too many and I don't want to live that again. And on a darker note, any Woody Allen film. I hate even typing his name, but when I was a little kid I thought it was cool to see this Jewish director who was very present in his films recognized as an auteur. I used to be a bit of a fan. :(
19. A movie you look forward to watching (could be an upcoming release or not): Deeply buried in my back pocket I am always hoping to watch A Face in the Crowd. I bought it as a gift for someone who said it was excellent, but we never got to watch it together. I don't know a thing about it. In terms or more current films, I would like to finish watching The House. I only got to see the first story.

Cops: Mother Swung Her Baby “Like A Batâ€
Daytona Beach – Swinging her five-month-old son like a baseball bat, a Florida woman yesterday struck her boyfriend with the infant before dropping the child face first into the sand on Daytona Beach, police charge. Cops allege that Tatyana Allen, 18, initially hit her 19-year-old beau “several times in the face with a closed hand†before using her baby “as a weapon.†Allen, witnesses said, swung the infant “like a batâ€before “the baby was dropped in the sand, face down.†Allen’s boyfriend, the child’s father, quickly flipped the infant upright since he was unable to turn over on his own. Witnesses told cops that Allen subsequently “snatched†her son from the man’s arms and walked away with the child “dangling,†without his head being supported. My Review: This is the third novels in this entertaining series, and it can be read as a stand-alone as there’s a lot of backstory, you will surely want to read the previous novels and I guarantee they’re as likeable as this one. I found the Santa Fe setting intriguing as there’s a lot of info about the history, the places, and the people. There’s a mix of historical and fictional characters and the mix works well. If you want to learn more about the Fiesta or the artists there’s a bibliography at the end of the book. I enjoyed this book as I like Maddie and the cast of characters, there’s a lot of world building and we are introduced to the characters, their relationship, and the atmosphere of the city before the Fiesta. I enjoyed this part, but I think that some less details would have helped and start the proper mystery part sooner. The mystery is solid, twisty, and full of surprises. I couldn’t guess the culprit and enjoyed the storytelling and the story. This is a lovely series, and this is the best instalment so far. I read it as fast as I could, and I can’t wait to read the next story as there could be some big news. Highly recommended Many thanks to Amanda Allen, Severn House and Rachel’s Random Resources for this digital copy, all opinions are mine.
The Author: Amanda wrote her first romance at the age of sixteen--a vast historical epic starring all her friends as the characters, written secretly during algebra class (and her parents wondered why math was not her strongest subject…) She's never since used algebra, but her books have been nominated for many awards, including the RITA Award, the Romantic Times BOOKReviews Reviewers' Choice Award, the Booksellers Best, the National Readers Choice Award, and the Holt Medallion. She lives in Santa Fe with two rescue dogs, a wonderful husband, and a very and far too many books and royal memorabilia collections. When not writing or reading, she loves taking dance classes, collecting cheesy travel souvenirs, and watching the Food Network--even though she doesn't cook.

WIP Wednesday
Did you ever wonder how it all began? How Rey Skywalker met the future President of the United States? How they fell in love? Well then you’re in for a treat....
The Governor
(A Mr. President Prequel)
Coming to the Archive on March 31!
Click below for a sneak peek!
“Come out to Yavin,” said Uncle Han as soon as she picked up the phone, no hello, no preamble. He’d never been one for small talk. It was one of the reasons why he was her favorite relative. “I’ve got a hot new candidate for governor.”
Rey rolled her eyes. Typical. No hello, but a demand to drop everything and chase him nearly 2,000 miles across the country. She settled onto the bed in her childhood bedroom for what was surely going to be a trying call. “Uncle Han, I can’t just pick up my life and move halfway across the country.”
“You graduated like two weeks ago, of course you can.”
She took a deep breath, sending a quick prayer to the universe for patience. While she loved her uncle, once he got his mind set on something, the devil himself couldn’t make him change his mind. “No, I can’t.”
There was a pause. “What, that boy of yours not want you to go?”
Her cheeks pinked. She’d been with Beau for nearly two years, and still her uncle referred to him as “that boy.” Come to think of it, Aunt Leia hadn’t warmed to him either. Or her dad for that matter.
“No,” she said far too quickly to be believed. She could almost imagine the smirk on Uncle Han’s face. “But I do have a job here. You know, a paying one.”
“You have a job in Yavin, too. And I can guarantee it pays better than that crappy job in Jakku.”
“You got me that job!”
“I know. So I’m well aware of how crappy it is.”
She closed her eyes and leaned back against the pillows. She was going to murder her uncle. There was just no other way about it.
Of course, he wasn’t about to give up. “Come on, you were my best student. I saw your recommendation from Senator Murphy after your internship. We need someone like you on this team.”
It was tempting. Han Solo was the absolute best where it came to running political campaigns. He’d seen three candidates all the way to the White House in his career, not to mention all of Aunt Leia’s campaigns that he’d run in his spare time. But for the past few years, he’d been semi-retired, teaching as an adjunct at the same university as her father. To learn from him (out of the classroom) would be a boon to anyone’s resume. But she still wasn’t buying it.
“I thought you were retired. We threw you a big party and everything.”
“I am retired,” came his gruff reply.
“Could have fooled me,” she shot back.
He barked out a laugh. “You got me there.” There was a pause, and Rey was almost certain he’d hung up on her, conversation over, when she heard a deep breath on the other side of the line. “He’s the real deal, kiddo. The one in a million. I wouldn’t have come out of retirement for anything less.”
She sat up. “Really?”
It was rare to hear praise from Uncle Han, even faint praise. A hundred percent on a test in Professor Solo’s class might earn a “not bad,” if you were lucky. So to hear him speak so highly of someone was rare indeed.
“Really, kiddo. He’s gonna go all the way one day, I’m sure of it.”
Rey took a deep breath. Now she was only dragging her feet for show, and they both knew it. “What’s his name?”
“I knew you couldn’t resist!” There was a gruff laugh. “You’re just like me, a political animal, through and through.”
Though she knew he was right, she’d had more than one fight with her father to that effect, she couldn’t help but be a little annoyed at his smug evaluation of her. “I never said I was taking it. Name?”
“Poe Dameron. Spelled how you think it was.”
“And how do I think it’s spelled?”
“P-O-E.”
“As in, Edgar Allen?”
“As in, Poe Dameron, future president of the United States.” There was some shuffling, and Rey could hear someone murmuring in the background before Uncle Han said, “Listen, there’s a lot going on here, so I gotta go. See you Monday?”
She nearly dropped the phone. “Monday? As in, less than a week from today?”
“Yeah, you got a problem with that?”
“I can’t move across the country in less than a week!” She had research to do, outfits to buy. Hell, she didn’t even know what she’d be making or where she’d live.
“Who said anything about moving? It’s six months and we’ve got a house we’re renting for staffers. Back a bag and get your ass here.”
There was a sharp voice in the distance that Rey would have sworn was her Aunt Leia.
“I mean, Rey, oh favorite niece of mine, please join me at your earliest convenience. As long as that is no later than next Wednesday.”
She sputtered something, which Uncle Han took for agreement.
“Excellent. I’ll send the contract and flight information. See you Wednesday.”
At that he really did click off, the three beeps leaving Rey in disbelief. What the hell had she just agreed to?
See you in a week!

TOO MANY HUSBANDS
April 21, 1947
The Gulf Screen Guild Theater present Wesley Ruggles’ Too Many Husbands, which was a 1940 Columbia Pictures release.
Produced and Directed by: Bill Lawrence
Music by: Wibur Hatch
Synopsis ~ Vicky Lowndes (Lucille Ball) loses her first husband, Bill Cardew (Bob Hope), in a boating accident in which he is presumed drowned. The lonely widow is comforted by Bill's best friend and publishing business partner Henry Lowndes (Frank Sinatra). Six months later, she marries him. Six months after that, Bill shows up, after having been stranded on a uninhabited island and then rescued. Vicky has a tough choice to make.
The Screen Guild Theater (aka The Screen Guild Players), was one of the most popular drama anthology series during the Golden Age of Radio. At this point it is being sponsored by Gulf Oil. From its first broadcast in 1939, up to its farewell in 1952, it showcased radio adaptations of popular Hollywood films. Many Hollywood names became part of the show, including Bette Davis, Bing Crosby, Clark Gable, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, and many more. The actors’ fees were all donated to the Motion Picture Relief Fund, an organization that provides aid to retired actors. Screen Guild Theater was heard on different radio networks, beginning with CBS from 1939 to 1948, NBC from 1948 to 1950, ABC from 1950 to 1951, and back to CBS until its last episode on June 29, 1952. Throughout its run, a total of 527 episodes were produced.
The radio show brought movies to radio for thirty minutes each Monday evening on CBS. The show aired for 242 programs beginning with “Yankee Doodle Dandy” starring James Cagney and ending with “My Reputation.” In between were all time classics such as “Casablanca” with Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, “Sergeant York” with Gary Cooper and “Holiday Inn” with Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire, and Dinah Shore.
The Screen Guild Players previously broadcast an adaptation of “Too Many Husbands” on March 8, 1942 starring Hedy Lamar, Bob Hope, and Bing Crosby. On September 4, 1944 yet another version was aired by the Players, starring Donna Reed, Frank Sinatra, and Bill Goodwin.
Too Many Husbands (1940) was produced and directed by Wesley Ruggles, with a screenplay by Claude Binyon. The film stars Jean Arthur, Fred MacMurray and Melvyn Douglas, and is based on the 1919 play Home and Beauty by W. Somerset Maugham, which was retitled Too Many Husbands when it came to New York. The story is a variation on the 1864 poem Enoch Arden by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. In the UK, the film was released as My Two Husbands. The film was nominated for an Oscar for Sound Recording. Too Many Husbands was remade as a musical, Three for the Show (1955), with Jack Lemmon and Betty Grable.
Two of the film’s background players, Bert Stevens and James Conaty, were later seen in as extras on “I Love Lucy.” Sam McDaniel (brother of Oscar-winner Hattie McDaniel of Gone With the Wind), plays a porter, just as he will do on “I Love Lucy,” becoming the first black actor to have lines on the series. Star Fred MacMurray will appear with Lucille Ball in “Lucy Hunts Uranium” in 1958.
RADIO CAST
Lucille Ball (Vickie) plays the role originated in the film by Jean Arthur. In April 1947, Ball was awaiting the release of two films: Lured and Her Husband’s Affairs.
Bob Hope (Bill) plays the role originated in the film by Fred MacMurray. Hope had just released the film My Favorite Brunette. Hope and Ball would do four films together, staring in 1949 with Sorrowful Jones.
Frank Sinatra (Henry) plays the role originated in the film by Melvyn Douglas. Sinatra had just released the film It Happened in Brooklyn on April 7, 1947. Primarily a singer, this is the only time he acts opposite Lucille Ball.
Truman Bradley (Announcer) was selected by Henry Ford to be the announcer for the “Ford Sunday Evening Hour”. With his distinctive, authoritative voice, he soon became a radio actor as well as a narrator in numerous movies. Bradley was the radio announcer for shows by Red Skelton, Burns and Allen, and Frank Sinatra.
Peter, the Butler is played by an uncredited performer.
‘TOO MANY’ TRIVIA!
The title is easily confused with the title of Lucille Ball’s radio series “My Favorite Husband,” and her films Too Many Girls, and Her Husband’s Affairs.
Lucille Ball also appeared with Screen Guild Players in “Tight Shoes” (April 12, 1942), “Nothing But the Truth” (May 3, 1943), and “A Night To Remember” (May 1, 1944).
From late 1942 to July 1947 Lady Esther Cosmetics sponsored the show which had been previously sponsored by Gulf Oil. It was first known as the “Lady Esther Presents the Screen Guild Players” and then became "The Lady Esther Screen Guild Theater.”
As is his penchant, Hope ad libs during the script. While hugging Vickie upon his return from the ‘dead’, he says “Let’s just stay like this till ‘Take it or Leave It’ comes on the air!” “Take It or Leave It” was a radio quiz show, which ran from April 1940 to July 1947 on CBS. It switched to NBC in 1947, and in September 1950, the name of the program was changed to “The $64 Question.” Hope often flubs his dialogue, but covers with comedy.
Bill (or maybe it is Bob ad libbing) mentions Dorothy Dix. Author Elizabeth Meriwether Gilmer (1861-1951) was widely known by the pen name Dorothy Dix. As the forerunner of today’s popular advice columnists, Dix was America’s highest paid and most widely read female journalist at the time of her death. Her advice on marriage was syndicated in newspapers around the world with an estimated audience of 60 million readers.
Bill (or maybe it is Bob ad libbing) wonders why Vickie married Henry: “Did you lose a question on “Truth or Consequences?” “Truth or Consequences” was a game show originally hosted on NBC radio by Ralph Edwards (1940–1957), although it also was later seen on television.
Bill (or maybe it is Bob ad libbing) says that the mattress on the bed that he and Henry have to share feels like it has been stuffed with Grape-Nuts. Grape-Nuts is a breakfast cereal developed in 1897 by C. W. Post. Post originally developed the product as a batter that came from the oven as a rigid sheet, which was then broken into pieces and run through a coffee grinder to produce the "nut"-sized kernels.
The first commercial break advertises Lady Esther’s four-purpose face cream. In these live commercials, the spokeswoman in known as Lady Esther, although she was not the actual Esther Cohen that the cosmetics line was named for.
Bob Hope ad-libs about his “Pepsodent contract”. Hope hosted “The Pepsodent Show” from September 1938 to June 1948. The program also featured Jerry Colonna along with Blanche Stewart and Elvia Allman as well as a continuously rotating supporting cast and musicians which included Desi Arnaz and his orchestra.
Henry tells Bill he should leave and join the Foreign Legion. Bill replies that he’ll meet him halfway by going to the library and reading Beau Geste. Beau Geste is an adventure novel by P. C. Wren, which details the adventures of three English brothers who enlist separately in the French Foreign Legion following the theft of a valuable jewel from the country house of a relative. Published in 1924, the novel has been adapted for the screen several times: 1926, 1939, and 1966.
Henry asks Bill (Bob) if he can spell “pithecanthropus" and defines it a the missing link between man and ape. Bob (Bill) replies “C.R.O.S.B.Y”! Bing Crosby was a singer that partnered with Hope on dozens of films, particularly their “road” films. In April 1947, Crosby had just appeared in a cameo role in Hope’s newest film, My Favorite Brunette. By the end of 1947, The Road to Rio will be released. Coincidentally, in the 1942 Screen Guild production, Crosby played Henry, the role taken here by Sinatra.
Just before Vickie breaks it to Henry that she’d rather be married to Bill, Henry (or maybe it is Crosby) sings “Time After Time” (1946), a romantic ballad by Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne, written for Sinatra to introduce in the 1947 film It Happened in Brooklyn, which had premiered two weeks earlier. In return, in the very next scene, Bob Hope warbles a few notes of “Thanks for the Memory”, his signature song.
At the end, Lucille Ball thanks the Motion Picture Relief Fund and it’s country house. In 1940, Jean Hersholt, then-president of the Motion Picture Relief Fund, found 48 acres of walnut and orange groves in the southwest end of the San Fernando Valley to build the Motion Picture Country House. The dedication was on September 27, 1942. The Motion Picture Hospital was dedicated on the grounds of the Country House in 1948.
The final commercial, once again delivered by ‘Lady Esther’ is for Lady Esther Bridal Pink Face Powder.
‘TOO MANY’ CLOSING CREDITS
The announcer (Truman Bradley) promotes next week’s program, Stork Bites Man, starring Jackie Cooper, Anita Louise, and Gus Schilling.
Stork Bites Man was a United Artists film that would not be released until June 1947. It also starred Cooper and Schilling.
Columbia Pictures is credited as the producer of The Guilt of Janet Ames, starring Rosalind Russell and Melvyn Douglas. Coincidentally, Douglas starred in the film version of Too Many Husbands.
The music was arranged and conducted by Wilbur Hatch, who also did the same for “My Favorite Husband” and “I Love Lucy.”
Lucille Ball appeared courtesy of Metro Goldwyn Mayer, producers of The Sea of Grass starring Spencer Tracy, Katharine Hepburn, and Robert Walker.
Bob Hope appears through the courtesy of Pepsodent, and can currently be seen in the Paramount picture, My Favorite Brunette.
Frank Sinatra appears through the courtesy of Old Gold cigarettes, and can currently be seen in the MGM musical It Happened in Brooklyn, also starring Katharyn Grayson, Peter Walker, and Jimmy Durante.
The announcer reminds listeners that part of the country goes on Daylight Saving Time, and that the show will be heard one hour earlier.

Chapter 81 - SBT
Here it is.
"Oh man, maths is so hard…"
"I know! But Prof L's nice."
"Yeah, makes it almost easy."
Lunch time came and Mundy smiled. He was on soup duty that day with the poor, and the kids were rushing out of their class with none other than Prof L.
"Hey, M!"
"Hey, guys. So how was it with L? Borin' again?"
The kids laughed as they lined up and took a bowl each.
"Non, it was not." Lucien went behind the counter and lent a hand to Mundy. "Was it?" He asked the children.
"Nah!" They answered as they were served by either Lucien or Mundy.
"You see, M? My classes are never boring."
"Pfff, of course you'd say that…!"
When the soup was served to everyone, Lucien and Mundy helped themselves and shared some bread together. Winter was gone and now was the time for spring.
"How was it with the kids this mornin'?" Mundy asked as they both sat on plastic chairs not far from the tables that had the pots.
"Someone said it was boring." Lucien answered with a smile.
"So I've heard, eh."
"Pff…" Lucien nudged him with his elbow playfully and they both chuckled.
"Nah, seriously, how was it?"
"As usual. I think some of them at least will become very good human beings, and maybe even more. Seeing them everyday fills me with joy."
"Alright then, I see you don't need me, eh?"
"Don't be jealous. I need you, you fill me with another kind of joy…" Lucien winked at his lover.
"Not so loud. The kids are gonna hear you…!"
"They are far away and busy." Lucien answered with a chuckle.
"Still have some classes this afternoon?" Mundy raised a bit of bread to his mouth.
"Oui." Lucien bent on his side and bit in the bit of bread before Mundy had the chance.
"Oi!"
Lucien chuckled and left a quick kiss on his lover's cheek.
"Someone told me that I looked like a thief."
"Whoever that is, they're right!"
"Ages ago, a lifetime ago. I was a different man back then, and I had come to meet with a scruffy - some would say dirty - hunter."
Mundy raised an eyebrow.
"Back then, I used to have short hair and a clean shaven face."
"Now you're the scruffy one, eh?" Mundy joked and Lucien chuckled.
"I guess so, oui. And back then, I used to wear a mask."
"Ah, yeah, the balala-thingy. I remember."
"Oui. And the hunter said to me that I looked like a thief with my… balala-thing."
"Balala-thingy, not balala-thing, Professor Ski."
Lucien's eyebrows jumped and he turned to look Mundy in the eye.
"That's how I called you when we met, remember?" The Aussie asked.
"Of course, I do."
They finished their soup together and the time had come for afternoon classes.
"I shall go."
"Yeah, don't wanna be late for your own classes, eh."
"It sets a bad example for the children." Lucien answered.
"Ooh, listen to you now, an example you are, eh?"
Lucien smirked proudly.
"You should take notes, mon amour."
"Pfff, yeah, well, too late to change anything in me, eh."
Lucien stood up and took Mundy's hand.
"It is never too late." He put Mundy's hand on his lips and left a kiss. The Aussie stood up and pulled Lucien's hand to his own lips.
"Go ahead, Prof L." He kissed it and Lucien blushed.
"Fine, I shall. Take care and see you tonight?" Lucien headed away.
"Yeah, see ya. And uh, Lu'?"
The Frenchman stopped and turned.
"Je t'aime." Mundy said, with his own Australian twist to the pronunciation.
[I love you.]
"Moi aussi, mon loup."
[Me too, my wolf.]
Mundy spent the afternoon going through donations. Clothes, toys, sometimes even pieces of furniture. Of course he wasn't alone and other volunteers helped. He took a break at some point and took a walk around the few blocks. But curiosity won over when he saw the silhouette of a man in his late forties with long, silver hair through a window.
Mundy got closer and watched. Lucien was too absorbed explaining whatever bit of maths was on the blackboard for him to notice that he had an extra student outside, shyly observing him. Mundy saw him go to the kids, boys or girls, from one table to the next. He would crouch down to be at eye-level with them and spend a few seconds there. Sometimes he would take a pencil and scribble something on their copybook. But each time, he would finish his explanations with a smile and a pat on the shoulder or ruffling the blond or brown hair of the child he was addressing.
Mundy smiled. The cold-blooded snake of a spy did have something of a father's instinct. And even if his past job had tried to strip him off of his emotions, Lucien's heart always won.
"Such a ball of repressed romance you are…" Mundy whispered to himself and chuckled before turning and heading back where Maurice needed him.
The afternoon flew by at the speed of light.
"M, you can finish this tomorrow, it will start to get dark and L has finished classes a long time ago now. He will wonder why you come back home so late…!"
Maurice came to Mundy who was busy trying to repair a toy. He had a screwdriver in his hand and an allen key behind his ear. The king of beggars removed the allen key and tapped Mundy's shoulder.
"Oh, hey, Maurice."
"How is it going?"
"Alright. Just a few tweaks and a new battery ought to do the job on this little car."
"Great. Now, please, go back home or L will tell me off." Maurice chuckled.
"Yeah, true." Mundy put away his tools and tidied up his working bench before standing. "Alright, thanks Maurice, I didn't see the time fly."
"It is alright. I should have a clock installed in this workshop. But yes, please, we'll see each other tomorrow."
"Yeah, see ya."
They exited the workshop and Mundy locked it before heading home. His walk back home wasn't too long but as he put his hand on the front door handle, a noise surprised him. He leaned his ear on the wooden door to listen better.
"Is that…?"
Yes, it was. It wasn't any odd noise. That particular kind Mundy could recognise anywhere. He unlocked the door and pushed it open as silently as possible before slipping in. He walked to the living-room and peeked through its door.
The flames of the fireplace made the Burgundy walls glow in warm shades of red and orange. Perle and Soot brushed themselves on Mundy's legs before slithering in the room. Lucien was sitting in the middle of it, on a piano. He had tied his hair in a messy bun but some locks of hair fell beautifully around his face. Mundy's heart swelled in his chest and he didn't even wonder where the piano had come from.
The halo of the dancing flames cut Lucien's black silhouette poetically. He was playing with the ivory keys confidently. Mundy removed his aviators to see him better.
{To the reader: the song is "Star Triste" [Sad Star] by Juliette Armanet. Some of the lyrics have been changed.}
"Accoudé à mon piano,
[Leaning on my piano]
Je fais le beau
[I play it cool]
Je veux qu'on m'aime,
[I want to be loved]
Qu'on m'aime dans la peau."
[To be so loved.]
Lucien was dancing on the piano, his hair followed the movement of his head that he swung in rhythm.
"J'voulais pas devenir chanteur,
[I didn't want to become a singer,]
Lady crooner,
[A lady crooner]
J'rêvais d'une vie plus claire,
[I dreamt of a more simple life]
Peut-être plus sincère."
[Maybe more true.]
Perle and Soot jumped on the piano seat and then on top of the piano itself and they laid there, spooning each other. Soot bathed the white cat and no doubt they were purring, even though Mundy couldn't hear them.
"J'sens que je vais finir en idole,
[I feel I'll end up an idol]
En bourreau des coeurs,
[A heartbreaker]
Le king des baby dolls,
[The king of baby dolls]
Le bureau des pleurs."
[The bureau of cries]
Gosh, what a sight. Mundy had almost forgotten that Lucien could sing that well. It was gentle, delicate waves of air that he blew between his thin lips. It was sensual and soft to the ear.
"Je cherche des yeux
[I look with my eyes]
Quelqu'un pour que le monde s'écroule
[For someone to make the world crumble and fall]
Quelqu'un pour être deux
[Someone to be two with]
Et là parmi toute la foule
[And there, amongst the crowd]
Je n'en vois pas deux
[I can't see two people]
J'suis seul pour lui tout entier
[I am alone for him entirely]
Seul sur la scène
[Alone on the stage]
Juste pour lui"
[Only for him]
Lucien raised his head off the black and white keys and looked at the door. Nothing. Hm. He could have sworn he felt as if he was being watched.
"Il n'y a qu'un seul moyen de le savoir."
[There is only one way to find out.]
Lucien dived back in his bubble of concentration. He knew what he should play next, to lure his lover out of the shadows.
He placed his fingers on the keys and took a deep breath. Lucien started much slower than the original version. But he needed to remind himself of the chords and arpeggios. Ah, oui, it was coming back to him now, his fingers knew what they were doing and he started to sing.
"Time can never mend
The careless whisper of a good friend.
To the heart and mind,
If your answer's kind,
There's no comfort in the truth.
Pain is all you'll find.
I should have known better, yeah."
Lucien looked at Perle and Soot. They were sleeping peacefully, their limbs were intertwined in a beautiful mix of black and white fur.
"I feel so unsure
As I take your hand and lead you to the dance floor.
As the music dies,
Something in your eyes
Calls to mind a silver screen,
And all is sad goodbyes."
A breathy line of saxophone resonated from the corridor and Lucien smiled. He went on with the music, nothing shall interrupt them!
"I'm never gonna dance again!
Guilty feet have got no rhythm!
Though it's easy to pretend,
I know you're not a fool!
I should have known better than to cheat a friend!
And waste a chance that I'd been given!
So I'm never gonna dance again,
The way I danced with you!"
Mundy had entered the living-room and was now playing that oh so famous saxophone tune from the well known 'Careless Whisper', by George Michael. He joined Lucien and leaned on the side of the piano.
One tapped ivory and ebony keys while the other played with gold. The flames of the fireplace lit the black varnished, grand piano and the golden saxophone beautifully.
Both improvised on the piece and it lasted much longer than it should. The piano answered the saxophone and the saxophone answered the voice. Hammers hit strings more passionately as Mundy blew in his golden dragon, the flames of what his voice couldn't sing springing vividly to Lucien.
After a length of time that none of them knew precisely, they stopped. Mundy had ended up sitting next to Lucien on the piano seat. He put the saxophone on top of the piano next to the cats and took a deep breath.
"That… was epic." He said and leaned his head on Lucien's shoulder. The latter chuckled.
"We should do this more often."
"What? Play Careless Whisper for hours?" Mundy asked as he dearly held Lucien's arm in his.
"Playing together. After all, that's all we've ever done, hm?" Lucien put his hand on Mundy's thigh and brushed it gently. He leaned his head on Mundy's.
"Yeah… Playin' together weird games, eh?"
"Oui, but I wouldn't change anything."
"I'd change the bit where you made me believe you were dead." Mundy teased.
"Ah, oui, that. I almost forgot about it." Lucien found Mundy's hand and laced his fingers around his.
"I didn't. It felt awful."
"To this day I am surprised that you did not beat me up for it." Lucien said.
"To be honest with ya, I couldn't. It didn't even cross my mind."
"How come? I thought I was your favourite punching bag." Lucien kissed his lover's head and leaned on it again.
"Ha, yeah, 'course you are but…"
"But?"
"But I was so happy to see you. I was over the moon…!" Mundy answered. "And uh… If you think about it, coming out of your hidin' is like refusing to lie. It's like you had the choice between continuing to lie or coming to me, and you chose to take the risks and come to me. Means a lot to me."
Lucien smiled, albeit sadly. He wished he had met Mundy much earlier in life.
"Now, the more I think about it, the more I… Uh… I mean I love you."
Lucien bit his lip. Something was gnawing him on the inside and had been for days now.
"Mundy?"
"Yeah?"
"I have something to confess, yet again."
Mundy straightened his back and looked at his lover next to him.
"What is it?"
"I fear you might want to beat me up after all." Lucien lowered his head.
"Why?" Mundy took Lucien's hand in both of his. He looked him in the eye but Lucien was staring down at his thighs.
"Because there is a lie that I need to clear up."
"Go ahead."
Lucien took a deep breath.
"Tomorrow I shall take you somewhere, if you agree. But you shall face it without me."
"Face what?" Mundy raised an eyebrow.
"The lie that Maurice has been nurturing for years and that he shared with me for days now."
Mundy frowned.
"Alright… Uh… I must say it doesn't explain much but I guess that's all I'm gettin' for tonight?"
"I am sorry." Lucien hid his face in his hands.
"Hey now, it's fine." Mundy hugged him.
"Non, it is not. You will hate me when you find out!"
"No! I can't hate you, luv', whatever it is, I won't hate you. I can't!"
"Mundy… Please…?" Lucien removed his hands off his face and looked up at Mundy. The Aussie saw the flames of the fireplace dance in the guilty pupils of his lover.
"Yeah?"
"I promised to stay with you and I will." Lucien said. "You will need to face this lie and look at it right in the eye. It will be painful and it will shock you beyond what you have lived so far."
Mundy's breath accelerated. His body was tense as he started to measure the seriousness of Lucien's words.
"I will not be with you because you have to do this alone. But I will be nearby."
"Lu', you're startin' to scare me…"
"I will be nearby but…"
"But what?"
"But I will understand if you don't want to talk to me for a while, if looking at me hurts because I have overstepped the mark and did something wrong to you, again."
"Lu', don't talk nonsense, I love you too much for that."
"Mundy…" Lucien headbutted Mundy's chest softly and buried himself there. "In my defense, please understand that since the day Maurice told me the truth, I have been unable to sleep soundly, I felt like I was lying to you and God knows that I never want that to happen again. It pained me so much that… I sometimes even found it hard to look at you in the eye because each time I did, I would hear a voice in my head screaming that I was lying to you. It was unbearable!" Lucien clawed Mundy's jumper on his chest.
"Whatever it is, it's gonna be fine and I won't be mad at you. Don't find excuses like this. I… I'm sure that if you lied, you had good reasons to, eh?" Mundy cupped Lucien's face and made him look up. "Ok?"
"Non. I was just too cowardly to tell you the truth, and too afraid of your reaction." Lucien answered sadly. "And now I am ashamed."
"Luv', there's no harm done, ok? I love you way too much to hold a grudge or anything."
"You say that now, but tomorrow shall test your love for me brutally."
Mundy hugged Lucien again.
"Whatever it is, we've fought worse." The Aussie said. "We've fought worse and we made it. Every bloody time, however hard it was, we made it together. Now I don't know what you've been hiding from me and why you're so terrified of my reaction when I'll find it out. But I can't afford to lose you, not again. I know how hard it is to be without you. So don't worry, I won't let go of you."
"I fear that you might reconsider everything tomorrow."
"Don't. There's nothin' in the world that'll change the fact that I need you in my life."
"So do I, mon amour, so do I…"
Lucien closed his eyes and clung to Mundy. That hug lasted for minutes and to the Frenchman, it almost seemed as though it would be the last.
