her name is printed in big letters on the cover of the monthly issue, her face--smiling and excited--next to the centrepiece of her latest art collection: cupid and psyche. the painting is stunning, a riot of bold colours and patterns but the at the centre is a man, his face hidden, his jet black curls tousled. his body is relaxed, she thinks there's an air of carefreeness about him.

and she'd know that for sure, after all that day is etched into her memory.

when she feels a familiar pair of arms wrap around her, she smiles.

"you're rather proud of the feature, aren't you?" matty's voice holds a little teasing note. she's stared at the feature for close to thirty minutes now, discreetly pinching herself in the same spot on her arm. (it sports a tiny, barely-there bruise now)

"good," matty nuzzles his face into her neck, softly kissing the skin, "you should be. the exhibit was fucking gorgeous."

"mmm, because you were the centrepiece?" fondly, she teases back, but the memory flashes in front of her eyes--the bustling art gallery, matty in a corner, wearing a plain hoodie and jeans and a cap hiding half of his face, absolutely brimming with pride.

she remembers the journalists asking about the man in all the paintings, the one whose face no one can see. "he's my muse," she says every time, "this collection is dedicated to him."

"someone's going to connect the dots," matty walks around her, settling himself next to her on the sofa. instantly, they rearrange themselves into a tangle--her legs on his lap, his arm around her, her head on his shoulders, his head on hers. "if they looked carefully, they'll make the connection."

"matty, we have been each other's muse for years and no one's found out. i don't think they're going to start now. besides," she snorts, "i think the art world thinks i've made you up in my mind. won't be the first time an artist's gone insane."

matty laughs. "maybe you have. you always say i'm too good to be true."

when she can't think of a retort, she sticks her tongue out, shrieking away when he smothers her in kisses.

"seriously though, it's fun writing about you. singing about you. and i love seeing myself through your eyes." suddenly matty sounds all sober and serious. she thinks his voice even wavers slightly at the end. he blinks quickly though, and just like that the brightness in his eyes is gone.

"love it when you write about me too," she teases, "love being called a gemini and a sexy girl, such poetry."

"oi! i put my heart into that! it's a precious memory for me."

"the memory of us fucking in the new bath for the first time?"

matty giggles like a teenager, hiding his face in her hair. it's fun to rile him up like this, so she continues, poking him in the ribs. "or waking up the next day with a head cold because we stayed in the cold water for so long hmm?"

"you took care of me though, and so i think you deserve to have a song written about you. or a whole album works too i think." then matty tuts. "actually, no. don't wanna tell anyone it's about you, that'll ruin the magic."

"ruin the magic?"

"of being your muse and having you as mine. i think a hundred years from now, when people would see your art as the artwork of this generation, and my music as the tune of our times--"

"tune of our times..."

"yeah, quit laughing at me!" matty flicks her nose, quickly kissing it after. "so when my music becomes the tune of our times, i think people will see it then. they will make the connections."

secretly, she loves the idea--that their love might transcend time and space through their art. that decades from now their names might be whispered together, even though they aren't just yet.

"of course, we'll be buried together by then. same grave by the way, very romeo and juliet of us."

"that's morbid!" she laughs sharply, "what will the epitaph say?"

matty hums for a bit, thinking, his eyes flutter shut for a second or two almost like he needs to focus on the half formed thought until it's a complete sentence. then he excitedly clears his throat and gently holds her face between his hands.

"here lie the artist and the muse; inspiring each other in death as they did in life."

As a resident of a completely different country and from an outsider's point of view, at this point I honestly think US democracy is done for, no matter who wins. As much as I love the libertarian party & other third parties fighting for a recognition, they have absolutely no chance in this election or the next ten.

If Harris wins this one, that'll strengthen Democrats' hold on their voter base because look, we did it, we saved democracy ! It won't be as apocalyptic as republicans say, but it's gonna be much easier for them to win voters just by saying "After all we did, you're not seriously gonna go back to the orange guys, right ?", leading to a (multiple) decades long string of increasingly incompetent democrat politicians. After Biden, they have a lot of wiggle room when it comes to competency anyway.

If Trump wins, it won't be as apocalyptic as democrats say, but there's definitely going to be a lot of rioting, enough to bring significant economic damage and fun statistics to blame on Trump. Considering he's also kind of an idiot, he'll also feed the trolls like a 10 year old discovering online forums, so the media will make it sound exactly as bad as they said it would be.

Then you'll have republicans going full on contrarian no matter what happens, and you end up with an incredibly polarized country that's impossible to put back together. Probably not a Yugoslavia repeat, it's gonna stay one very dysfunctional country.

Yes, by democrats, and the groups of people the democrats whip up into hysteria.

I just think that the last chance America has of clearing house of some of the machinations of the deep state and military-industrial complex, as well as the blatant weaponizing of the legal system to try imprison the leading candidate for election... the only hope of any of these being challenged is for Trump to get back in. Regardless of how one feels about the man himself, he has a vested interest in directly challenging that corruption, which no previous president has ever had.

A vote for the democrats of today is just a vote for endless wars, division and hatred, globalism, gender insanity, population replacement, cultural destruction and an end to freedom of speech. Trump is the only plausible figurehead pushing back against all that, and, with America still being the world empire, the rest of the world is very much focused on what happens, as what befalls America will likely befall the rest of us, very soon after.

Every election someone says "this is the most important election of our lifetime", but I really think this one is, for all the above reasons.

ohhhhh no no no no no... that's a mis-reading of that moment, i think.

how i saw it was... Soul is now a symbol. a figurehead. he's the living symbol of that which they will NOT be returning to. Kid will keep his personal weapons, and that's fine cuz they don't need to be death scythes anymore. i also think Kid keeps Spirit as weapon/surrogate father/adviser. i won't go into it though because it's not what you asked about.

i'm gonna answer for immediately post-manga here, not far future. Soul will still be Maka's weapon. they'll take assignments hunting those on Shinigami's List as the assignments are given. there's just no witches on the list anymore.

also think there'll be a whole new type of mission everyone gets sent on, the more advanced meisters/weapons that is... and that'll be diplomatic missions. stopping skirmishes between witches and DWMA agents. stopping riots and various things as world politics have been upheaved and also witches are probably just...around more. no longer hiding.

additionally, it's possible some meisters and weapons would turn against Kid. to be suddenly told that everything they've been working for... the defeat of witches, to become death scythes (imagine those weapons who are so close) is all over?? there could be some civil war going on around the world there, at various DWMA branches... kishin's defeat ironically caused even more problems. the world is gonna be quite changed.

so Soul and Maka's relationship will continue to develop both professionally and personally. Maka will see that any worry she had about Soul drifting away is totally unfounded. he's simply becoming more confident in his identity, which will only make him stronger on his own and stronger for Maka.

and oh yes, yes i ship them. Soul will eventually make a move if Maka doesn't. they're both hesitant, and it's more likely she'd make the first move. the dude does everything except make a move for something more physical so it's like.... come on already. he just respects her that much, is what it is. she'd get impatient tho... i think it would be a mutual move-making, but she's really the one calling the shots if that makes sense. and then once he's sure like yeah this is okay with her. then they're golden

Update on the stuff going on in Brazil:

Thankfully the situation has calmed down a lot by this point. The damage to government buildings and stuff inside them was really big, but there are no reports of any considerable injuries at this point, thankfully - there were very few people in the area besides the rioters, as it wasn't a workday.

It took ages for the police to really act, and they were a lot kinder to those people than they usually are to many other groups. However, there have been around 200 arrests so far, and I'm guessing those. numbers are and will keep increasing

I imagine the next few days will be chaotic, but hopefully there won't be similar riots. I've heard that some people are talking about keeping it going, but I'm not sure that'll work.

Bozo hasn't said anything yet, if anyone's wondering.

Angstiest ending, you say. I'm kind of bad at sitting in a bad feeli- no, I tell a lie. It's absolutely A Fine Officer, A Good Soldier. Captain Appo locked inside his own head by the Order 66 programming, watching helplessly as his body advances on the Jedi Temple with a blaster in his hands...

I'd say my Episode IX but there is a big sad beat toward the happy ending, so really Fire Hawk, Snow Thrush carries the day here.

Luckily no. My shipping choices and maybe other elements make my fics pretty niche, but that also means that I'm not involved in shipping drama, and I don't seem to enrage anyone to the point of leaving angry comments.

You won't find any under this moniker, that's all I'll say.

10. Do you write crossovers?

I don't presently, although, a year after everyone seemed to be drawing Spider-loys there is a full-on "Horizon characters as Marvel comics superheroes" AU running riot in my head (with Aloy dating Ikrie, who's X-23 Wolverine, Talanah as Hawkeye, Erend Odinsson, Helis as Venom and Regalla as the Prowler). Not since my time in the Brotherhood of the Lost "alternate Horus Heresy" AU project, and that was fairly sparse too. I like collaborating more broadly, but when it comes to the writing itself, I prefer to fly solo.

Rey/Kaydel in Star Wars, and Aloy/Ikrie in Horizon. I can't choose between those two.

15. What’s the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Probably one of my Sequels-era fics, set between The Last Jedi and Resurgence and Reckoning. I have some WIPs that threaten to be very plotty and I just don't have as much spare time as I used to. Also I have some OC apprentices for Rey and Finn, whose stories I really want to begin telling and promise to let me move the older characters forward as well.

16. What’s your writing strengths?

Probably my action writing. I read a lot of action and films and tv influence my prose a lot. I think a lot about rhythm, dynamics and all that stuff, and I just enjoy it, which probably helps.

17. What’s your writing weaknesses?

Mystery? I'm yet to really try to write one tbh, but I look at something like Glass Onion or Silo and just struggle to imagine coiling my brain into those shapes.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I've only used it the once, I think, and very much for comic effect. It depends very much on how long a scene is, and how much I want to emphasise a language gap.

First I have to preface this by saying that the reason I know this isn't because of any personal affiliation with them, but because part of my specialty in uni was political extremism and I wrote my final dissertation on why groups like qanon were an inevitable consequence of America's current political climate emerging in its culture of fundamentalist evangelicalism. I focused in on qanon for it for the sake of brevity. That failed, it was still 20k words long, but I got an A and a shout out from the department for it!

Anyway, you won't get this from every qanoner because there's been a bit of an ideological split under their umbrella. Its all based on the same base of pizzagate adrenochrome storm-is-coming Q-clearance patriot shit, but some camps take it more extremely than others, and have different interpretations of Q's cagey and poorly-written 8kun posts. If you don't know, they have this concept they call "the storm," which is supposed to be this great big society-upending event that'll lead to all the "corrupt elites" and "kabal members" getting arrested, leaving only morally and intellectually pure americans who know the truth (read: that Q was right all along). The january 6th riots were supposed to be that storm. As you can imagine, the massive failure of it to change american society to any significant extent and the resulting silence from Q did not bode well for the longevity of the movement.

January 6th led to an inner schism of sorts. More moderate members have since lost their passion with many admitting that they were scammed before leaving qanon altogether. The more extreme members tended to double down, too drowned in cognitive dissonance to accept that they lost or that they were simply wrong. Camps started emerging believing in things like advanced underground civilizations, societies of nazis on the moon, that certain phrases and spelling mistakes must have hidden codes alluding to Q's real intentions, that Canada was annexed by America and we're secretly led by a new queen (which... isn't how a constitutional monarchy works, but go off I guess?), and, recently?

That JFK Jr. is still alive and going to be Trump's new VP in his next term after the betrayal of Mike Pence.

oh thank u <3 so the worm fantasmagoria one..... oh boy. so, I'm writing my fix-it ww undeath thing and realize more and more how I wanna write a post-canon maxi in this au. it just has so much potential: vash finally getting a chance to deal with his trauma and grief, the polycule getting together (with vash being aroace ofc)... but the aftermath of trimax also gives me so much to wander plot-wise! the things that I wanna explore are

politics of earth newcomers vs no man's land population, bc they sure aren't gonna welcome an authoritarian state in their outlaw wild west society

worms! lots of 'em!! and how they, in the form of zazie, are interested in humans and don't mind sharing a planet with them, but the rapid renovation and plans for terraforming are threatening their existence and boy oh boy the bugs will riot

so this story is gonna tackle all that and vash will be in the center of it, trying to set things right between all sides. now jaded and powerless, but with three most important people by his side. his ideals will be changed for real this time around, like, he'll actually have to admit he was wrong about a lot of things and I think that'll be so hard for him... but essentially for the best

the "pls don't write this" refers to the fact that this thing will be MASSIVE and I know that for the foreseeable future (like, at least half a year) I won't be able to consistently write this. but I rlly wanna! so far the only big post-canon fic I read is "The end" by gingermosaic and it's great but I wanna tell my own story and go in completely different directions and explore WORMS

"in the ruins of our childhood" is set in the same au, takes place right after the fight in Octovern and before vash is found by meryl&milly. it's about wolfwood and livio (and razlo and some other alters bc it's actually pretty rare to have just one alter as far as I know) rebuilding the orphanage. that they pretty much singlehandedly fucked up in the vol 10.

they rebuild the walls and their relationship alike, getting to finally reunite as brothers and discuss their shared traumas. it's a heavy angsty one for sure, but hopeful. ww is still pretty bad at talking about his feelings but at least livio gets proper help and they get their several months of peace at the place they can once again call home. uhhh... fuck I actually started crying a bit while writing this it's gonna be gut wrenching innit

to add in support of this theory: also the meta-perspective -- they wouldn't release a poster of his final form if the VGU isn't out yet or they haven't finished his arcane. why keep everything hush-hush and then put out official media that doesn't capture that'll happen in Act 3?

and additionally, viktor being a sort of listless, mind-controlled arcane puppet doesn't make for fun gaming. iirc the new names for his skills include "concuss" or "anomaly" and since some folks on the subreddit seem to be worried he'll end up as support/a healer, neither of those two skills seem very support-friendly.

bear in mind all main characters who are also in-game champions are meant to Be FIGHTING so it stands that the show should give some lore backstory as to WHY they are fighting (even if it's convoluted in game lore). we don't see viktor up at arms fighting, we don't see a weapon (yet), etc. a lifeless, unmotivated character who's being pulled along by others is very boring, and Riot makes money off of skins so they need people invested in the (fighting) character.

all this to say, I agree with these theories, and am adding the business decision evidence or theory to support why viktor will end up closer to the machine herald than Jesus!vik is. in the same way we know that the champion characters have plot armor (we know jinx/vi/cait won't die for example because they are champions) we can extrapolate some comfort that season-end viktor needs to have some motivation to be a champion to the same extent as all the other champions.

Viktor's Sequence in S2's Opening, What It Symbolizes & What it Means for the Rest of S2

So Act I dropped and it's great—Lots of plot points to go over in the future—but for now I want to deep dive into some interesting things I noticed about the intro, particularly found in Viktor's portion of it.

The opening is full of interesting symbolism and representations of Arcane's characters in their clearest, "purest" form (pure as in lacking impurities, not as in morally pure).

There's a lot of neat tidbits hidden in the opening, but I particularly want to dive into Viktor's segment because i am biased as hell his shots have some potentially incredible depth to them that I'd like to dissect.

A lot of that potential comes from what exactly the mask represents, which I'm arguing is not a symbol of Viktor's Machine Herald identity.

Hear me out.

Starting off with his first shot: we see Viktor reaching for the mask. Instantly after he makes contact we cut to a shot of Viktor holding the mask and considering it. He even turns it a little as he looks at its face, as if he's not quite sure what it is.

These shots are telling the story of S1 Viktor's experimentation with the Hexcore, particularly the research Viktor conducted AFTER his blood mixed with it...and yet, the mask does not represent the Hexcore itself, so how can it be telling that story?

I've seen a lot of theories of what exactly is the catalyst of Hextech's corruption into the Anomaly, and the most popular one at the moment seems to be that Blood + Hextech + Abuse of Magic = Anomaly/Angry Arcane. This theory seems to stem from the fact that not only did the Hexcore react to Viktor's blood, but so also did the Hexgates themselves.

Corruption found on the base floor of the Hexgates. There's a ceiling to this room, so there's very little chance that this is literally where Viktor's blood landed, but I do think his blood's presence in the Hextech-charged room triggered a chain reaction with the rest of the Hexgate. We may even see this happen in a flashback.

So, assuming these intro shots are representative of the moment when Viktor reached out and touched the Hexcore, and later when he's examining it more closely/experimenting with it, why don't these shots represent the Hexcore itself?

Because Viktor isn't making a move to put on the mask. He's just looking at it, thinking about it, considering what it is. Viktor absolutely made a move to use the Hexcore in S1—and killed his assistant in the process.

So what is he "looking" at?

I believe the mask is representative of the Arcane itself, and, by extension, its hold on Viktor's mind.

He's examined the Arcane and played with its properties—unsure of what to really make of it, but he never had the chance to take on the full potential of it. Once Sky died he realized that something was very wrong. Maybe he didn't realize how wrong, but he definitely concluded that this form of magic needed to be destroyed—thus the "Promise me" scene.

If the Blood + Hextech + Magic Overuse = the Arcane lashing out theory is true...then the moment that Viktor's blood mixes with the Hexcore is the moment it crosses the line from a mindless device to a tool of the Arcane.

This idea is only strengthened by Viktor's next shot—the mask being held to his face.

Viktor himself is not holding the mask—Jayce is. This shot depicts how Jayce used the Hexcore to save Viktor's life—very much against Viktor's will on multiple fronts—replacing Viktor's identity with a false one.

Jayce is putting the mask of the Arcane onto Viktor's face, hiding his true features, his emotions, his personality. The mask wears a flat, serene expression, reflecting Viktor's forcibly suppressed emotions in this Act—as we see with how Viktor interacted with Jayce when he woke up. As cathartic as that scene may have been, Vik was acting wildly out of character, and I sincerely think that was on purpose.

It's difficult to tell in this lighting but Vik's eyes are also their typical golden-amber in this shot. That would only make sense if this is symbolic of Viktor's true character being concealed by a false identity. It would make no sense to use Vik's amber eyes in a sequence meant to symbolize his new identity being concealed by the literal Machine Herald mask.

The final shot is not much different from the last one, but really drives home this comparison and the idea that the mask represents the Arcane, not Viktor's MH arc. The same mask is worn by numerous others, all slowly fading into view.

These faceless people are the Church of the Gloriously Evolved, all represented by the same exact mask that Viktor is poised to take on.

And yet, the mask is never fully put onto Viktor's face, unlike Viktor's followers. He can still back away. He can still hesitate.

So what does this all mean for S2?

It means that this ^ is not Viktor. This is a man either heavily under the influence of (or being fully controlled by) the Arcane.

And it also means that this trancelike state is not Viktor's endgame. I sincerely doubt this husk of who Viktor used to be will end up being the calculating antihero that is the Machine Herald.

Another point for the theory that Viktor's mental humanity will come back to him is the fact that Vik's in-game MH mask has golden eyes, mirroring Viktor's real eyes, not the lifeless—albeit shifting—gray of Viktor's current irises. Assuming Riot will be keeping this iconic part of Vik's design, that signals a change back from the emotionless puppet Viktor seems to be right now.

But I suppose we'll know for certain by the finale.

I don't know what it is, but I firmly believe that now Hazbin has finally got some news and seeing how the fanbase has reacted to it, Hazbin Hotel is fucked. I hate being pessimistic, but I also hate being a liar and not being honest on where I truly stand on the matter. It's no longer on the internet (where it should've stayed, and I'm saying this for Viv's sake). The audience is most certainly gonna change because Hazbin Hotel is more out in the open and it's gonna gain a lot more criticism, not just from viewers but from the same company that got it greenlit in the first place, especially when it comes to the show's production. And because Viv's apparently still in charge of it (Correct me if I'm wrong) that just screams bad news, mostly for her. Because we all know Viv can't criticism to save her own life and her writing.......speaks for itself.

And when it comes to the audience, her little ass kissers like Saberspark's "critique" won't save the show's image cause Hazbin's no longer a web show where only a small portion of the world could see it. We'll have legitimate "professional" reviewers that'll come in and rip this show to shreds and they will not hold back just to spare Viv's feelings.

And the redesigns for Charlie and Alastor are okay, I guess cause they're not much different from how they were before. Charlie now looks like Hell's version of Ellen Degeneres and Alastor is the still the same old Alastor, shark teeth and all.

Now that I'm mentioning redesigns, I don't even wanna imagine what the hell will happen when Angel's is revealed. The fandom is so unheathily attached to their "uwu femboy spider boi" that simply his pilot VA being booted caused them to riot. So god knows what a simple design upgrade will do.

But overall this is just a bomb waiting to go off for her.

Alright. Sonic Frontiers. Buddy. Pal. Chummy chum chum buddy pal. I'm on the final island. About to get the 6th Chaos Emerald. I've paid attention to the main story. Done all the side quests. I feel like I know what direction this is gonna go in.

Don't. Do. It.

I swear to god, if you decide to follow that dumb ass trope where the friends split up at the end, all because of dumb ass reasons you made up on the spot, some of which contradict their characters... I'm gonna lose my mind. I'm gonna scream. I'm- not actually gonna hurt anyone or break things... BUT I'LL IMAGINE IT IN MY HEAD! Just like how I'll have to imagine a better ending to a game that has some of my favorite Sonic gameplay in the series.

Just don't. You don't have to. It's not even worth it. It's pointless. If SEGA doesn't bring them back anytime soon, that'll be a stupid idea that makes fans riot. If they do bring them back anytime soon, splitting them up would've been pointless. It would be identical to how they do their own things between games anyway. The only purpose would be a cheap and temporary gut punch to make the people not actively thinking about the writing choices cry.

The dialog has been stilted in many places. The characters won't stop making pointless references. The story has been nothing but a vector for lore dumps and lore clarifications. Please. Just don't make me sit through another poor usage of this trope. Nothing substantial about these characters exist to warrant this ending. It's just entirely unnecessary. I can't say it would ruin the story because I was already getting sick of it by the tail end of the 2nd island, but it would still be better not to include it!

If this does happen, the worst part will be everyone defending it because it made them tear up. It would be blocked from criticism because people would've been too emotionally invested to accept anyone telling them to look at it from more analytical perspectives. It would have made them feel things, and because it made them feel things, that would mean it is inherently good to them. I saw it with HtTYD;THW, I don't want to see it here.

Just spare me from this agony. Don't make it worse than it already is.
