Fishing time

Today was not a lucky day for Y/N. The tide was calm on a sunny day, in the boat. A lot of trash had been picked up this week, no fish were in the area.

Y/N was desperate to catch something, otherwise she was going to get kicked out and the boat was not hers. Although fishing wasn't her thing, she just wanted the boat to see her huge sea friend.... None other than a blue, red and white whale.

Literally that whale had saved her life in a storm. He wanted to know more about her without exposing her to danger. Only the mere thought that Y/N would never see her again tore him apart.

-Let's go mince little fish....

Y/N cast the rod with the bait, only to see that it barely moved after a while he saw that something was moving. Y/N saw the opportunity to cast as hard as he could, "I'm going to get lucky" thought Y/N but as he pulled it out.

Another boot.

-Oh come on! I'm already going to wear a shoe store with so many boots! - Y/N said to himself as he cast the rod again.

This time the rod moved faster, Y/N smiled as he cast it looked like it was going to be the good one but he saw that it was too heavy.

-Come on, it's possible... Ah!

Y/N fell into the water because of the force that pulled the rod. He felt huge hands around him and pulled him out of the water.

To see Optimus somewhat surprised.

-Hello big guy! I didn't expect to find you here - Y/N smiling.

Optimus left me in the boat as he made a few small grunts and pointed to my fishing rod.

- Ah, what do I do? Fishing and I'm not doing so good," said Y/N.

Optimus noticed Y/N's face, which was somewhat frustrated and sad. He had told her to fish... Maybe he needed some help, the big guy dove down leaving Y/N confused, thinking maybe he was in a hurry, after a few moments with no luck he saw that Optimus had returned showing something big in his hands.

- Wait... that's a swordfish! -Y/N was startled as the boat wobbled a bit and she remained calm.

Optimus was confused the quality of the swordfish was a splendid specimen, something Y/N would surely help with.

- People would ask me a lot of questions about how I got it....

Optimus released the swordfish and dived again.

A while later he came back with something else. Y/N walked over to see that it was an octopus that had latched onto it.

Optimus was trying to get it off her. After a while he succeeded but Y/N was a little depressed.

- I'm no good at fishing! I wanted to dive and explore? But if I don't... I won't be able to go back - said Y/N as he sat down Optimus' face was in front of it and nuzzle to Y/N.

It was humid, it was nice especially in summer weather, she smiled a little at the gesture, Optimus purred a little.

- I should make it clear with the fish I want.... Look it would be something like this.

Y/N pulled out a log book of the fish in this area, showing Optimus which ones she wanted.

Those fish, most of them had gone to other waters the record was out of date.... At least since photo was still around the area and they were plentiful.

Optimus carefully dragged the boat.

Y/N did not know where Optimus was taking him as he was unfamiliar with this fishing area. It was a little different than what she was used to seeing until it came to a stop. Y/N heard Optimus grunting and pointing to the fishing pole. Y/N didn't have time to answer him as she had already submerged underwater. Y/N didn't know what he was up to but he took the advice to grab the fishing pole and get on with it.

She waited for a while until he saw that he was biting not trash but several fish! She was amazed as she caught a good amount of fish. Until she saw Optimus come out of the water.- This is great, Optimus with these fish! They won't throw me out are the amount I needed! Thank you so much," said Y/N as she jumped right into his hands and hugged one of his fingers.

Optimus on the other hand was happy to help her. He knew the difficulties Y/N was having with the job had, he met her by accident and seeing her go was not something he wanted her to go. Besides being one of the few beings that freaked out when she saw him.The presence comforted him, it was different....

Maybe next time she would take him to give lessons in something else.But at least they both got the big fish.

Tis time for Kyle 'Gaz' Garrick. Short story/drabble/whatever this qualifies as is under the read-more, along with a poll for who should be next!

Kyle moves to town right at the beginning of spring, on a beautiful Saturday morning. Says something to Kent about it being the best time of year for it because he can rent a moving truck for the things he's keeping, and use his actual truck for all the crap he wants to take to the dump, all on a bright, sunny day. It takes more time than he expected, but a few days after buying his new property he finally gets everything sorted. Then he pulls out his to-do list:

Move shit to new house

Borrow Kent from Jodi and take moving truck back

Get rid of trash

Unpack essentials

Relax at saloon

Pretty simple. He knew there'd be more to do, but that could wait for tomorrow, so he sets out to finish the list. It's simple enough getting Kent to help, all he has to do is offer to buy him drinks later and they're good to go. Taking the trash to the dump proves to be much easier with the both of them cleaning everything out, and saves them enough time that Kent is able to sit down at dinner with his family once they get back to town.

The rest of the night passes smoothly, with Kyle having gotten most of his essentials unpacked and then spending a quiet evening drinking at the bar and asking Kent about the town. He mainly focuses on what kind of people he's neighbors with, and Kent mentions the farmer that lives north-east of Kyle's new place, just past Marnie's.

"Just the one farmer? I thought there'd be two or three with all that land by the forest."

"Just the one. Their grandpa passed away a while back and they inherited the land, according to Jodi. I'm sure they'll be by your cabin tomorrow morning with some welcoming gift, you'll get your chance to say hi then."

The next day, just as Kent predicted, the farmer is at Kyle's doorstep with a steaming plate of hashbrowns, eggs, and pancakes.

"Alright, alright, did Kent put you up to this? There's no way you say hi to me for the first time and already know my favorite breakfast." Kyle digs in while he questions the farmer, but they just smile and tell him that they just wanted him to feel welcome before waving a cheery goodbye.

This starts a contest of sorts between Kyle and the farmer, with both of them trying to be more helpful and friendly than the other (without overdoing it, of course.) All of it is for craps and giggles, but it gives Kyle something to do and it isn't hurting anyone, so they keep it up.

Kyle helps Evelyn with the public gardens while the farmer gifts her an iridescent-quality tulip. Kyle fixes up a big pot of pasta for dinner at Kent's house, and the farmer brings a salad full of freshly grown veggies. The farmer fishes up trash out of the lake for Linus, and Kyle is right there patching a few holes in Linus' tent and showing him some easy, nature-made ways to stay warmer during the cold months.

And as the game goes on, with the both of them becoming more beloved by the other townsfolk, they become close friends. Kyle starts helping the farmer on harvest days and by bringing fresh hay for their farm animals when they can't make it to Marnie's that day, and they start spending more and more time together. Their relationship blooms into a close friendship... until one day Kyle gifts the farmer a bouquet from Pierre's.

And the rest is history.

Since helluva boss fandom have favoritism toward stolas. Stella character get a lot hate and when any bad quality they pointing out to stella never stolas they can make excuses toward stolas but not stella. Beside that i see the fandom compare stella to amber heard even calling her amber bird, amber heard is an actual victim of abuse who get smear and hate campaign by her abuser. I started to see similarity between both of them they receive a lot hate because of misogny

Tbh, I dont know much about the amber heard x johnny depp trial, i know that it was a big thing that happened which was mainly on domestic abuse though i dont have much information to go off of there.

With stella herself however, there is definetly a double standard in the fandom where they demonise stella for being abusive despite coddling stolas, a guy who sexually harassed an imp, made a contract of the imp sleeping with him to get the grimorie, abuses his servants (like throwing him around when he argues with stella, which is also what stella does too ironically enough), literally calls blitzo his 'little imp plaything' (just straight up dehumanising him) and neglects his own daughter. Or shipping him with blitzo, a character that also sexually harasses/stalks his employees, abuses/mistreats moxxie/one of his employees, was a shitty boyfriend to verosika, stalked his sister even when people around him says that she wants nothing to do with him (and still treats her like shit anyway) and is just an asshole. Its an 'its always sunny' situation where were not suppose to pick the ones that are good and the ones that are bad, but of which flavour of trash we prefer, even if the narrative itself is more lenient towards certain trashy characters than others.

Like I have seen people say that she was retcon which isnt true, she was never retconned. You cant retcon a character with little depth, thats the issue with her character. She lacks depth that wouldve make us care for what shes gonna do to the other characters along with creating more intriguing stakes. Depth doesnt equal sympathy which is what many fans dont get when people want stella to have more further characterisation. You can still an abusive character have depth, in fact that should be a good thing because abusers themselves have depth that makes it hard to recognise that their abusers, its one of the reasons why abusive relationships are hard to leave. And you can argue stolas is also abusive/terrible, just towards other people (like his servants or blitzo who is also abusive/terrible) yet he's clearly meant to be percieved as a 'complex' character so it would really be hypocritical to frame one as one dimensional because their abusive and the other more complex, even if their also terrible too. Its not to say 'dont frame stolas as a victim' because he still is a victim of abuse, victims arent perfect and can even be terrible people themselves, just to others and should still be recognised as victims regardless. What i am saying is to not pick and choose which terrible person is good or bad, their all bad in their own way and should be held accountable and face the consequences of such.

Does he have a wife? Does he have over 10 murderer boyfriends? Etc

part of what makes columbo so fun to watch is that the showrunners essentially wanted you to make headcanons about columbo. much of the intended fun and mystique of the character is thinking about his personal life and what makes him tick.

now as for me, i'm completely nuts, so asking me about my columbo headcanons is like opening pandora's box. it's overwhelming. i have headcanons about what the man wears when he begrudgingly remembers to take out the trash at 11 pm. so i'll try to keep it short with my more sane and general ones:

his name is francesco

his wife is real. it's fun to imagine him single, but the wifeless theory doesn't hold much water. as time went on, the writers made a conscious and overt decision to make columbo's wife a real entity. between private phone calls and cruise trips, it becomes an active effort for one to ignore her presence, despite the fact that you never see her. in fact, they came close to showing her:

my headcanon for them is that they're like most interesting couples: similar in important ways, but complementary. e.g. columbo clawed his way out of high school, she finished postgrad summa cum laude. he's messy, she's clean. he loves gourmet cooking, she burns water. she's a techie, he couldn't hack his way out of a paper bag. she has her series 7 license, he kind of knows what a stock is. etc.

he reads. constantly. even if it's just the newspaper

he's more refined than he lets on. columbo may be a self-proclaimed chili-eating mark twain louis armstrong cream soda kind of guy who confuses HVAC ductwork for art installations, but i think he's someone who cares about the integrity of the things around him. he has taste. he's realistic, he values simplicity, but he's not a rube. he appreciates quality items, good food, good music, and fine traits in people.

he's more introverted than he lets on. he can be garrulous and friendly with strangers, but lots of times we find him silent and/or lost in thought. he largely works alone and we often see him alone off the clock.

his job affects him more than he lets on. i mean kind of a given, right? he's seen it all, but he's still human. aside from being perpetually tired and hungry because he's hyperfixating on his work, i imagine he has some degree of post-traumatic stress. in my head columbo wakes up sometimes in a cold sweat thinking about the girl who jumped off a balcony or the guy strangled to death at the gym

he was a troublemaker as a kid. i love imagining him as an agent of the law born out of his chaotic, delinquent upbringing. i sometimes entertain the theory that he's killed or had someone close to him killed as an impetus for the sheer drive he has for his work. i also think he was definitely the most annoying motherfucker on the block as a kid and his brothers bullied him for it so hard he turned it into a strength

his fashion sense is actually good. more of a gripe i have than a headcanon. it irks me when people diss columbo's fit. young columbo clearly knows how to dress, and stock standard columbo changes subtly throughout the show. but the basics--the tan raincoat, grey/reddish/brown suit, white/creme button-down, dark green tie, brown chukka boots--are very well-coordinated in color and material. they're baggy out of necessity, not sloppiness. he moves around constantly and thus prioritizes comfort in a job and milieu that require a suit and tie in sunny southern california. it makes perfect sense that he'd eschew a sharply tailored worsted wool getup and opt for roomy linen! he dislikes overly tight clothes. which leads me to...

...he's a certified Freak and he gets "weirder" with age as he grows less and less concerned with how he comes off to others--"masking", so to speak. related to this is that the raincoat is his safety blanket, as he's sensitive to textures and levels of pressure/constriction. just look at him trying to think in the Wrong Coat:

sometimes he'll swing by the grocery store at 10 pm to pick up something for the wife and when nobody is looking he rides his shopping cart through the store like this

he has a strategy when he goes to buffets. the little old lady in front of him may be piling noodles and rice onto her plate but columbo's got so much steak and shrimp on his that they're about to ask him to leave

While their mom had been willing to let them out for a 'talk' with their grandma, the grounding still stood, and the next day was beautiful and sunny and crisp and they were stuck inside. With enough pestering, she finally agreed to let Blake and Emily into the backyard, under the condition that they rake the leaves and clean the gutters.

"Switching yard time for manual labor," Emily muttered, but she was smiling. She was just glad to be in the sun, too. Ever since the Fair Folk had followed them home, they'd both been itchy indoors, twitchy and jumpy, like static electricity wouldn't stop cracking underneath their skin. With Tassie's help, it had been a little easier for Blake last night, but Emily was still struggling, and she was everywhere once they went outside: on the roof cleaning one gutter, running into the garage to get trash bags, raking a small patch of grass and then abandoning it to clean the next gutter. Blake knocked at the lower hanging branches of the backyard trees with a stick to knock off any excess leaves as Emily ran around. Tassie was still with them, flitting around in the falling leaves, dancing off the streaks of sunshine filtering through. Her singing was lilting and beautiful, much like the Merrow's, but without the eerie quality that had drawn Blake to him in the first place.

Blake knocked the last of the branches and picked up the abandoned rake.

"So, Tassie, do you live near where... where we were last week?"

Tassie stilled momentarily, then lowered herself to a low-hanging twig. It bounced in the breeze. She glared at Emily. "You mean where your sister desecrated our portal?" she barked. Emily flinched and looked back to the gutter she was cleaning.

"Yes," Tassie continued. "I live just on the other side. I like to come into the human realm, though. I like your mushrooms. And you're lucky I do, because if I hadn't been there that day the rest of them probably would have killed you."

Life in Hanoi

Hanoi is different from any other city I have ever been to, and it is even distinct compared to other places I have been in Vietnam. I could post many photos and write many paragraphs but one truly cannot understand what it is like to be here without experiencing it firsthand. You have to experience the feeling of a motorbike grazing within an inch of you as you walk along the side of the road because the sidewalk has too many restaurant setups, vendors, parking, and other obstacles to navigate. To hear the sound of aunties singing karaoke in the middle of a park at night (karaoke is very popular, especially among older women who will gather in groups to sing their hearts out). To have a random dog come up and beg for your banh mi as you sit and eat on a plastic stool in an alley. To inhale smoke from a random bush that is on fire while on the way to class (true story, there are many controlled fires for cooking and trash burning but this particular unattended bush fire on my morning commute stood out). To drink Vietnamese coffee in a cafe decked out with communist decor (there’s actually a cafe chain here, Cộng Cà Phê, that’s famous for being communist-themed and it is not uncommon to see communist decor and flags in general, which can seem a little weird for Americans). To look across the street and see a goat grazing in the middle of the city. I could go on for ages listing random experiences I have had however, as I mentioned, you really have to come here and experience things for yourself to get the full picture.

Some things aren’t that different. I have found that the human tendency to forget how to drive when it rains is universal; it happens in every city in the world. Another universal human trait is sharing love and bonding through food. I have to gotten to know some of my Vietnamese classmates recently by joining them for meals where they ensure that I am well-fed. I previously raved about some bún chả I had in a restaurant, but the best bún chả I have had so far was from a stall tucked away in an alley with seating underneath a tarp that some of my classmates took me to. Befriending locals is 100% the way to the best food in Hanoi.

While I love Vietnamese food, sometimes I do miss home and seek out western food. There are a decent amount of western food options around the city. Pizza is actually fairly popular in Vietnam. Children like to come up to me to practice English and many have told me that pizza is their favorite food. This may be due to pizza and other western food being special for them. My friend who lives here said that McDonald’s is for special occasions, as it is more expensive than local restaurants. Eating locally is definitely more economical; a banh mi for breakfast usually costs around $1USD while an “American” breakfast I had the other day was about $6USD.

Another random thing that reminded me of home was Valentine’s Day, which was celebrated the same as in the US. Last week stores sold roses, chocolates, heart balloons, and gifts, and couples went out on dates. I do not have a Valentine so the only thing that I had was a restaurant serving me a cucumber heart on that day.

While I love Hanoi, there are some downsides that I cannot neglect to mention. The streets are very dirty and waste management is lacking so there is trash everywhere, leading to many areas smelling pretty bad. This coupled with generally poor air quality means, while masks are no longer required for COVID, it is sometimes nice to wear a mask outside. The skies are gray and foggy most of the time, especially since it has been winter. Since I am used to sunny South Carolina, it is sometimes sad to go an entire week without seeing the sun. Public transportation is lacking and infrastructure is very motorbike-centric. Owning a motorbike is necessary for anyone living here long-term, but since I am here temporarily I get by on foot or using Grab (Uber for Southeast Asia). Also, being a foreigner is a little hard. While I think the people on my street are getting used to me being around, I generally get stared at a lot. Touristy areas like the Old Quarter are the only places that are accustom to foreigners, but because of that there are many people around aggressively selling. I much prefer a quiet walk with stares over getting harassed. Although most places have fixed prices listed, there are still many places that will try to up-charge or scam foreigners. This is mostly an issue in the touristy areas as well, I have found the businesses around FTU and where I live to be honest.

Overall I have had a great experience so far and I have learned to appreciate things like seeing the sun when it does make an appearance.

Good morning everyone. I hope everyone’s woken up just a bright and chirpy as I have! And if not, don’t worry - you can always try again tomorrow!

I love sunny mornings, they fill me full of optimism and joy. I feel more productive if the sun is shining in on our home and the bright light naturally makes me feel so much happier.

It’s been a very busy week in our house. I started my new job! I am back in the industry I love, in a more senior role and I have been enjoying every second. I get to walk to work which gives me time with nature and time for reflection as well as getting my steps in.

As I had a half day on Friday, my house work is all done meaning so have time for myself this weekend. This means time to read, play my switch and do some much needed self care. Maybe even watch some trash TV or a good film? And of course, spend some quality time with my partner and dog!

Definitely, when they fall they fall hard. They’ve experienced it three times, once in their first life (although it was definitely not a healthy relationship), once in their second life (honestly only somewhat better), and now in their fourth life with their wife Amara.

41. Are they married? Do they want to be?

They have married three times, first to an orcish woman named Lok’rus during their second life. Upon returning to find their wife had died of old age and remaining family wanted nothing to do with them, they focused on their work and married for status (the poor fool was not aware of that fact), marrying a drow man named Yazloth within the Kryn Dynasty where they served. Upon their death and displacement into Shadycreek run they met an Oni by the name of Amarath, or Amara, but they just call her “Sunny” they married not long after. They don’t care much for weddings but anything to make their person happy

42. If they have siblings, do they like any of them? Would they rather be an only child?

While they have had many blood siblings throughout their lives no bond ever stuck, in their first life especially they had to sacrifice their kin for Lolth’s favor, which didn’t help them with the whole sibling bonding thing. Siblings forged in combat held more value, but orders are orders.

43. What do they think is their worst quality? What is their actual worst quality?

The fact she let her people down.

She’s self aggrandizing, manipulative, selfish, and has a terrible martyr complex and the list could go on.

44. Do they lie often? Are they good at it?

Yes and yes, chances are you wouldn’t be able to tell the lies from the truth.

45. Are they good at keeping secrets?

Very, it was her job for a very long time.

46. How do others see them? How accurate is it to how they really are?

They definitely try to play charming, and once that falls they get very aggressive, once you get past all the nonsense they really are just a dumb little guy who wants to do magic and hang out with their people though so, take that as you will.

47. What kind of first impression do they usually make?

They try and come off as a magical benefactor often to try and charm young adventurers into dropping some good information on where to find loot, they’ve definitely lost that spark in their age though.

48. What are they most afraid of?

That they can’t fix or change any of what they are, that they’re truly stuck as this monster, although their mother in law is a close runner up.

49. Would they ever kill anybody?

With no hesitation and very little provocation.

50. Do they have original characters of their own?

Probably although it’s the most Mary sue, edgy brother of some old legends they heard as a kid, definitely not very original, and nothing they would ever share, not even with Amara.
