🩸BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA (1992)🩸
Not a favorite Dracula movie of mine by any means, but a must-watch movie for a lot of non-Dracula related reasons. This movie is an absolute visual treat, the sets and costumes are stunning throughout, and is filled with excellent actors including Gary Oldman as Dracula and Anthony Hopkins as Van Helsing. It really isn’t a horrible adaptation either as it follows the sequence of events in the books fairly accurately, and features narration from the characters in the style of diary entries which I really enjoy as a reference to the epistolary structure of the original novel. This move is also one of the rare few that features the entire cast supporting characters, however I have mixed feelings about their portrayal, particularly Mina Harker’s odd romance with Dracula (another dead-ringer reincarnated wife romance subplot—completely uninspired) which I find to be a distasteful treatment of her character even with her original personality still being somewhat intact in other ways. Ultimately this movie is worthwhile only if I don't actually think of it as a Dracula movie haha.
My favorite scene in this, which I based my little illustration off of, is when Dracula’s shadow is moving behind Jonathan, I love the way it starts out subtle enough that you might not be sure you’re seeing it right, gradually getting more out of sync up to the moment it begins moving completely independent of him. I think it’s brilliant.
Anyway, happy Halloween everyone, and I hope you’ve enjoyed both my artwork and my movie chatter this month :)
#dracula#bram stoker's dracula#dracula 1992#keanu reeves#inktober#hannah’s dractober#I feel like I should have tried harder to make lil keanu actually look like keanu instead of like the way I drew Jonathan in#jonathan harker's adventures in castle dracula lol but honestly that's the way I envision him when I think about this movie. he brought#such little dude energy to jonathan in this lol#while rewatching this I forgot that#one of dracula's brides bites jonathan's dick when they're like accosting him and man I screamed lmao. the sfx like dear god she BIT him#it like crunches asjfhds poor jonathan lmfao#I have such mixed feelings about this movie making Jack Seward do drugs. on one hand Im like ew it's just to make him seem gritty which is#cheap but on the other hand Jack Seward self-medicater teetering dangerously on the precipice of becoming an addict does actually feel very#in character. I think that's a good and interesting direction to push his personality in#very Stephen Maturin of him actually hahaha

And that is the end, I can now say that I read all of Dracula 🦇🩸.
This little final note is so heartwarming after all of the horrors that the crew of light experienced. They fought an unexpected evil that suddenly came into their lives, they left Transylvania with horrible memories, and the death of a really good friend. And yet... All of their lives move foward because that is what we humans do, we continue living.
I remember that I wrote about how Jonathan and Mina should try to visit Transylvania in a few years to see everything in a new light. When the scars have healed but not dissapeared, maybe to heal a little bit, and they did. Jonathan and Mina went there, with all of their memories, and saw how time is always moving, the castle is still there as the remains of a forgotten era of history, yet it changed like everything else. Both of them know what kind of evil resided there, and yet, Jonathan and Mina saw how everything changes yet stays.
An all round of congratulations to everyone, to Mina and Jonathan for having a little boy Quincey (who they named after everyone in the crew of light). To Van Helsing for finally having a family again, and being able to enjoy life. To Jack and Arthur on their recent marriage (yes I know that they probably married women off screen, but consider they are gay married). I hope that all of them live happily for the rest of their days.
Maybe in a few years, when Quincey Harker is older, he will read the novel that his mother keeps and reads from time to time. Or maybe he will ask his father to tell him a scary story, just how mom does sometimes. Who knows, but this little boy will know someday how brave his parents were, to what they fought against hand in hand. Quincey will know about kind lady named Lucy, about a grand cowboy who has his name, about an old man who tried to save his mom. All of the people who did not deserved that fate.
Only time will tell, but for now, even with all of their loses, the last members of the crew of light will continue living happily and ready to take on anything that life throws at them. Because if they could defeat an ancient powerful vampire with the combination of ancient knowledge, and modern humanity.. then it means they can do anything.
#It has been a blast#I am going to listen to re: dracula next year#And still reblog stuff from the tag#Just because it's over doesn't mean you have to throw it away!#To the people who want to read something after this the strange case of dr jekyll and mr hyde stars in november 15!#dracula daily

Drácula: el icono gótico por excelencia
Drácula - Bram Stoker
calificación: 5/5 ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
detalles: EN LA RESEÑA ESTAN LOS DETALLES
