I’m going to be completely honest, it’s so frustrating to be a person of color in this community. I always see white shippers mainly interacting with white/light skin shippers then see a black or brown shipper being interacted in every blue moon or the bare minimum. it really says a lot on them as a person especially them being the same people who rb poc racial struggles/psas but just never take action. And even when someone gets vocal about their racial insecurities, some people would still miss the point and take offense. I know discrimination can’t be erased but this is the only community I’ve been that’s so casually racist and it’s just so tiring to see it get repeated. I’m genuinely so tired of white people talking over poc’s voices and make it about them. I’m tired of poc shippers and characters not treated like people whether they’re treated like animals or some sort of trophy for being respectful. Bipoc especially dark skin self shippers deserve so much better and I seriously wish for the better in the future or at least people doing better at actually listening and learning.

Solar Return Observations #1

🔆Sun in 1st house: You might feel a strong urge to express yourself more than usual this year. There's a desire for you to be seen by others. You could also just generally find yourself feeling more optimistic about life than usual. When I look back on photos I've taken of myself during these years, I feel like I notice a glow in my appearance.

For example, a year when I had Capricorn ascendant with Saturn on my ascendant, I was dealing with so many obstacles and put into situations where I was forced to mature and grow constantly and I now consider it one of the hardest years of my life. 🔆📝 HOW TO KEEP YOUR LIFE ORGANIZED 📝🔆

1. The 3 most important tasks. Write down the top 3 tasks you need to do during the day. Start your day with them, and then you won't have another day where you've managed the small things and there's no time left for the important things.

2. Make a task list. Every morning, make a list of tasks that you need to do during the day. This list will help you stay on top of your scheduled to-do's and make you more organized.

3. Do only one thing at a time. When you focus on just one thing, the work progresses a lot better than if you do several things at once, jumping from one thing to another.

4. Do it now. If something needs to be done, do it right now. Don't put it off for a minute, because then you'll find other reasons why that action needs to be postponed or not done at all.

5. Clear your workspace.Remove from your field of vision all unnecessary and superfluous things that can distract you.

6. Simplify, simplify, simplify! Find methods to simplify your actions so you can get your things done in less time with less effort.

7. Keep things in order. You don't want to throw things around your apartment or office. Put each thing in its place and then you will not need to spend time looking for them.

8. Sign up for a time planning service. Nowadays, there are many different services on the internet that help you plan and do what you have planned. You will be able to keep your to-do lists under control, work on them through your phone, get reminders on your phone or e-mail and more.

9. Examine your daily routine.Analyze your days. What takes up the most of your time, what you are often distracted by, what activities do little good. Try to remove habits from your life that interfere with your life.

Jedi Survivor Photomode Tips: Portrait Lighting!

There are four lighting features that impact Survivor’s photomode: the environmental light, Cal's lightsaber, the exposure slider, and the three spotlights. Let's use them all 🔆

Environment

The environment/lighting teams at Respawn have designed incredible locations across all these different Star Wars planets. Pay attention to how the already-placed lights impact your portrait: I have a running shortlist of favorite locations that I often go back to when creating a specific look.

Environmental lighting also includes effects like fire particles, weapons, Merrin’s magick, etc. If you get your timing right, these can add extra color and visual interest to your photo.

Lightsaber

Cal’s lightsaber! It’s made of light! While everyone has their own color preferences (ginger saber supremacy) keep your color choice in mind when using the saber as a key light.

Bonus tip: Cal’s saber can also be used to help light NPCs 👀 Photomode allows you to toggle Cal’s visibility on and off, but the ambient glow from the saber will remain. It’s pretty easy to tell when I’m using this trick: just look for a bar-shaped catchlight in the character’s eyes.

Speaking of catchlights - they’re a great way to add life to your portrait. If the environmental light doesn’t hit the character’s eyes, I’ll often use the first spotlight as a key (main) light to try and create that reflection.

Spotlights

I’m often using spotlights in two ways, either intensifying the environmental light or pushing the image with stylized lighting. The first creates more interaction between the character and their surroundings, while the second adds drama and visual interest. My favorite portraits are often a mix of both.

Here’s a breakdown from a recent photo: the unlit photo (1), a yellow spotlight as a key (2), a red rim light that connects to the neon sign in the background (3), a green rim light for stylization and repeating color (4), and the final image (5)

Other spotlight tips: play with moving them closer/further away from your subject, along with the intensity of the light itself. Some colors (white, yellow) are more powerful than others (red, blue). If I can’t get the color I want from one light, I’ll place two in the same location and drop the intensity to blend them - blue and green make turquoise!

If you want to be a nerd like me (though I'm in this industry so it's kind of my job) study lighting that’s used in real life portraiture and cinematography. Techniques like short lighting, three point lighting, butterfly lighting, etc.

Exposure Slider

The exposure slider in photomode is a helpful option when the entire scene is darker/brighter than you’d like. It’s also a good way to isolate your subject from the background: drop the exposure down, then use spotlights to add light back to your subject. Note that the spotlight brightness is impacted by the exposure as well, so you’ll need to crank the spotlights up to compensate.

Photo editing

Survivor’s visuals have a beautiful dynamic range and photomode does a great job protecting its highlights and shadows, though that often means less contrast. So if it’s a favorite portrait, I’ll add some contrast back in and often push complementary color into the shadows (yay color theory!)

Lighting is such an important part of photography, both IRL and virtual, but it's not the easiest tool to use. This is more theory than a practical how-to, but hopefully some of it is helpful?

I. Golden crown

This card, I feel, is referring to your own sens of Justice. There is a situation bothering you & you feel you've been cheated. You know the Wheel turns & what is due will eventually come back to you. Yet you seem to get a little impatient & feel that, as a practice of the physical plane, you can create your own justice if you take the matter into your own hands. While it might be validating & satisfying to do so, you cannot see all the events involved in this situation. The Universe has already planned an outcome. It might not be the play you expected, but the Stars only deal the cards you really need.

It's truly up to you if you decide to fix things on your own, or wait for the natural Justice to work things out.

II. Silver crown

The work you've completed so far in a great start to a much bigger project. I see something work related. You might still be thinking about how you want to do things, but trust you've done everything right so far & you are ready to spread your ideas. I see more of a worldwide audience (or the goal to have this wide an audience) for your project.

The work is not done, but this is the green light to go to the next step of your adventure.

III. Golden crown & head

As you welcome change into your life, you are easily able to tell the situation that are good for you from the bas ones. You don't mind saying things like they are even if you might be a little harsh. You trust the right people will understand. This confidence & state of mind is perfect to adapt to any new environment while staying true to who you are. Keeping clear boundaries is important as other people might make it hard on you. They might not have ill intent, but it's best you don't take any chances. Remember who you are & what relates to your values. Don't hesitate to pause & evaluate a situation to be sure to react according to what's dear to you heart.
