Think it's past time we started calling the "yuri is fetishizing lesbians for cishet men" argument what it is: misogyny. It's misogynist to say that women can't genuinely create or enjoy lesbian fiction
And it's also teetering on the edge of transmisogynist because that argument is like two hairs' breadths removed from "and therefore any trans women who say they like yuri must actually be men"
(also even if it's true and men like looking at lesbians: so what. Who cares. They're allowed to like it)
Just admit that you're homophobic and think porn is evil or whatever

main takeaway from certain fan reactions to the finale is this:
the final scene with ankarna was so meaningful to the bad kids' arcs and how they made peace with being wronged by people they loved, and if all you can focus on is that the rat grinders didn't get much screentime, then you don't love dimension20 and you don't love this world: you want to be playing your own hs themed dnd campaign and you're mad the oc versions of the rat grinders you made up in your head acted ooc. these are not your characters and this is not their story.

Thinking about Kafka’s companion mission. She was so excited to play the truth and lies game. We the player have so many evocative and lore-relevant questions we can ask her, and then her questions are literally like “do u like me?...” She’s INSECURE now that Stelle has lost her memories and is likely being fed the idea that the stellaron hunters are bad guys that she should stay away from. Kafka can’t help but worry that Stelle hates her now. But she also can’t bring herself to just ask the damn question outright, so she does it under the guise of a game. And she's confident she’ll know which of Stelle’s answers is true bc Stelle is a shit liar (at least my version of her is).
I just can't get over how clearly happy Kafka was to see Stelle on the Luofu. And don't even get me STARTED on the text messages she sends if you pull her... They're in love, your honor

Sadly, I entered this fandom quite late, I lost so much of the joy of it. But, this anime truly changed my life, it made me see my life and my experiences under a new light, made me fall in love once more with ice skating, taught me so much about love and life.
I got to know some amazing people thank to this fandom, people who truly impacted me. Not only friends or people I talked to, but every artist of any kind who created something that made me feel anything, every soul that intertwined with mine in this fandom has touched me deeply, and has taught me something new.
The fact that the movie has been cancelled isn't a surprise to me, nor it really saddens me. I've learned to be wary if sequels, they've mostly disappointed me in the past, and this story was too impactful to me to risk being disappointed by it. I'm not happy, naturally, but I don't really feel sad about it: I'm relieved I finally got closure, after all this time, and that we all know we can stop waiting.
I believe this isn't the end of this fandom. Sure, some people might leave, but that's not scary.
The next level, in my opinion, has been us all along: the story lives through us, through out love and passion, through the friendships we made along the way, through the marvelous fanfictions that keep the magic alive. Every author, every artist, every fan of this anime is keeping it alive, is building their own "next level" day by day.
So yeah, I know this is unpopular but I don't care we won't have a movie. We have each other, I know we'll keep the characters alive.

one of the most frustrating things to me with the mapleshade/birchfall situation is its like. the only time since into the wild where the books acknowledge queens don't have to reveal the fathers of their litters. when mapleshade tells beetail (? the deputy whats-his-face) shell be raising the kittens alone, he accepts it without question. this implies her lying about birchface being the father was unnecessary, but in Bluestar’s prophecy everybody immediately assumes thrushpelt is the father the minute bluefur is known to be pregnant, and bluefur not correcting this is treated as a reasonable decision despite it being the SAME situation! it's just the authors want mapleshade to be unreasonable so this time it's bad actually.
The in-universe Queen's Rights are so poorly defined and utilized that the BB!Queen's Rights are essentially an entirely original framework. They sometimes exist in the books and sometimes don't, depending on if the writer remembers them or not.
They actually seem to not be a thing in Bluestar's Prophecy, from what I remember. Thrushpelt offers to be the pretend-father as a result.
It seems to have protected Fallowtail though, until Reedfeather decided to kidnap his kids.
Featherstorm's first litter, Raggedpelt and Scorchwind, are bullied for being fatherless and face constant speculation.
Same with Flintfang, Blackstar, and Fernshade. They're not even actually halfclan, Blackpaw holds his tongue and refuses to reveal the truth to stop bullies.
Brokenstar faces open bullying from his adopted siblings for not knowing who his mother is (but also he stops Yellowfang from telling Lizardstripe about it because he overheard a conversation where she told her friend she feels like the baby is stealing milk)
StarClan pushed for Squilf to lie to Brambleclaw for this reason, because they assumed (correctly) that having HalfClan suspicion would make it harder for The Three to be accepted into ThunderClan
So if a queen has "a right" to not reveal parents, it's not very protective. Your kids are going to face bullying and discrimination regardless of how loyal you actually are, or who the dad is.
But yeah suuuure Mapleshade was evil and horrible for not correcting Frecklewish. I can totally accept that in this completely arbitrary situation that somehow it would have turned out better if she told her No and left the whole Clan speculating.

Yall looooooove to talk shit about women, especially cishet ones, not giving the same attention to wlw stories as they do with mlm ones and call it "internalised misogyny" (let's not even go into the whole "fetishization" debacle), but when it's the last time you read/watched m/f stuff?
Exactly.
The amount of yall claiming other women don't like wlw bc of misogyny but then turn around and hate/scoff at the mere idea of shoujos SIMPLY for being m/f is VERY high. So what, yall have internalised misogyny as well? Cause last time I checked both wlw and mlw had Women in them so if not liking wlw makes you a woman hater so does not liking mlw and that sounds insane. "Oh but I don't like shoujos cause I'm a lesbian and are not into men" well they're straight and don't like women so??? It's easier to like mlm cause it does not involve their gender and some people don't vibe with stories that involve their gender and another they're not attracted to. If YOU can get a pass to mlw stories so can they, you hypocrite🤨
As long as they aren't clearly lesbophobic I don't see a fucking issue man, also you know what? wlw stories are mostly fucking BORING and even as a lesbian myself I find more cool shit amongst the mlm ones but /I/ am trying to change that and write my own cool wlw stories, what are YOU doing beside bitching and throwing around big words against people simply trying to enjoy themselves?

riddle me this
do we think that people who called themselves fujoshi sometimes didn't know how to treat real life gay men with respect acted that way because the term was at the height of its popularity during the 2000s (a time of rather extreme homophobia), and was popular With a subculture that was largely considered fairly young and somewhat socially ostracized (who may find it more difficult to grasp boundaries because of a lack of experience)
Or do we think people automatically become homophobic predators by wanting naruto and sasuke to kiss because they called themselves a special word
fujoshi discourse is, to me, like if the jokes poking fun at "gamer" as a self identifier escalated to the point of making an unironic claim that anyone self identifying as A Gamer™ is an automatic bigot by default, that bigotry is inherent to the act of being A Gamer™, complete with callout posts and block lists and dnis for The Gamers™
it's ridiculous on the face of it, because it's an inherently silly stance to take with complete earnestness. but it's Also quite worrying, considering its function to justify treating people horribly by labeling them with The Bad Thing™
it does, for instance, stop being funny when we recognize the number of terfs and radfems that call gay trans men fujoshi Specifically with the intent of calling them straight women fetishizing "Real" gay men. the flaw in the mindset of demonizing attraction becomes apparent when we remember that demonizing attraction is actually quite common outside of the context of this little internet squabble.

guys, my dudes, girlies, fine people I am cupping your face in my hands and asking you to listen to me.
gay panic is a concept that is now at this very minute law in far too many places that allows heterosexuals beat the shit out of someone who they perceive to be homosexual and get away with it without repercussions. they say ‘this person was hitting on me and I panicked’ and they get out of any trouble or have a lighter sentence. it doesn’t matter if the person was actually hitting on them. it doesn’t matter if they were actually gay. they get to say ‘I panicked because homosexuality is sooooo scary’ and they get away with vicious and bigoted assault.
I trust you know this is not a good thing, and there is a reason lgbtqia+ folks and those who value human rights are fighting so hard to have these laws removed.
this is still at this moment an active problem, and for those of us who don’t have it around anymore it’s still very very recent and very very painful.
please, I’m begging you not to draw a cute picture of your favourite slash pairing and say one of them is having gay panic when they see the other person. because many people in your audience will read that as the character A immediately beating the shit out of character B (not in a homoerotic fashion) and maybe even killing them because they’re gay
gay panic is literally a legal defence for a hate crime
please don’t ruin your lovely artwork by using the term. there are other ways to say what you mean. just say oh no he’s hot or whatever. it’s a trope for a reason. we love oh no he’s hot.

So I marathoned the last season of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power today, and would have watched this years ago if I'd known about the badass canon enemies-to-lovers lesbians.
Why I actually started is because someone was complaining about Catra, in a way that made her sound cool and interesting to me. She is a glorious disaster in exactly the way I like. I'm exhibiting self-control by not reblogging 500 pieces of Catradora fanart in a row. And they have 12,000+ fics on AO3? I don't even know where to start with that. I feel like a starving peasant who's used to scavenging in half-dead fandoms, and someone's just sat me down at an overloaded banquet table and now I'm figuring out which cutlery to use. Decadence.
Have to admit, I do enjoy the Catradora / Rafalear parallel tropes too. Sunshine hero who was raised to be a warrior for the bad guys, had their mind messed up by an evil parental figure, rebelled to join the good guys and found sanctuary with a magical queen, had to unite a bunch of royals across the world, and conquers everything with the power of friendship x villain who was influenced by the same evil parental figure but found it much harder to break away, almost killed everyone on their world with their dramatic bullshit, tried to do One Good Thing without expecting any rewards, and is now throwing themselves into redemption while still being very spiky and tsundere about it?
Adora and Alear would be instant friends, while Catra and Rafal were side-eyeing each other dubiously and wondering who'd win in a fight. Nothing I like more than shaking fandoms together into weird crossover cocktails!
