[KOR/ENG LYRICS] Boy In Luv (상남자) (Demo Ver.) by BTS
Demo songs are an early step in the music making process used to present the general idea of a song.
The lyrics may not always make sense as they are often just placeholders for the artists to reference flow or melodies before the actual recording.
I want to be your oppa*
I hunger so much for your love
I want to be your oppa
I’ll make you mine, just watch
Why are you shaking up my heart?
Why are you shaking up my heart?
Why are you shaking up my heart?
Shaking it up shaking it up
Dad, exactly how did you
confess to mom?
Should I write a letter?
What is this, before you I’m nothing but dust
Because of you I‘m ticked off, gasping for air, and whining for no reason
I’m usually serious but you make me start petty fights with you
Why do I care so much? You turn the grown-up me back into a kid
But I’ll turn things around, from fate into lovers*²
Even when we get to university, if I’m there with you I think it’ll be okay
Ga na da ra ma ba sa*³ hakuna matata!
It’s the exact same profile picture but why do I keep checking it?
But don’t underestimate me because I’m not an easy guy
Fretting, I’m fretting
Who do you think you are? Are you the only smart one?
Why am I being teased teased?
너 이제 그만 hol’ up hol’ up
Stop now, hol’ up hol’ up
Hold on tight, before I pounce on you
Before my heart lets go of you
Say what you want
Say what you want
What do you really want?
Hold on tight, before I pounce on you
Before my heart lets go of you
Say what you want
Say what you want
What do you really want?
Why are you shaking up my heart?
Why are you shaking up my heart?
Why are you shaking up my heart?
Shaking it up shaking it up
겉으론 bad bad girl, 속은 더 bad bad girl
On the surface a bad bad girl, on the inside even more of a bad bad girl
If you miss out on a guy like me you’ll only regret it later on
Your habit of checking your messenger notifications but not clicking on the message
As the “1” disappears*⁴ I burn with impatience
Maybe I should buy a GPS*⁵
(Fast fast fast)*⁶ I try to appeal to you
I keep on (trying trying trying)
(I got ‘em) 뒷심? (I got ‘em)
Sincerity? (I got ‘em) Endurance? (I got ‘em)
The one thing I can’t get a hold of is your (beau-beauty)
How should I change to make this work, hol’ up
Play hard to get? Lead you on? I don’t know about all that
But if you’re hurting, call me instead of 119*⁷
If you want me to cry, I’ll cry
If you want me to laugh, I’ll laugh
If you want me to roll, I’ll roll
Fretting, I’m fretting
Who do you think you are? Are you the only smart one?
Why am I being teased teased?

Say what you want
Say what you want
What do you really want?
Hold on tight before I pounce pounce pounce pounce pounce on you
Before I let go go go go go of you
what you want
Say what you want
Say what you
Say what you
Say what you want want want want
Hold on tight, before I pounce on you

Translators’ Notes:
* Oppa is an honorific term in Korean that females use to address older males. In its most basic form, the word is used to address your actual blood-related older sibling. However, the word has also become rather loaded as it indicates a degree of closeness with the person, and can be a marker of romantic affection.
2. ‘인연/in-yeon’ meaning ‘fate/destiny’ and ‘연인/yeon-in’ meaning ‘lovers’ are made up of the same letters, just in reverse order.
3. The first few letters of the Korean alphabet.
4. In Korea’s messaging app called KakaoTalk, a ‘1’ beside a message serves as a read/unread receipt. Once someone has read your message, the 1 symbol disappears.
5. The Korean lyrics use the word ‘navigation’, which is the Konglish term for GPS.
6. The word used for ‘fast’ here can also sound like the revving of an engine.
7. 119 is the number for emergency calls in Korea.
