I’m trying to understand the style and inspirations for Flowers for Princess Fischl, and ended up looking for allusions in its title in the original text and across some of the translated versions.

It is said that those who are highly skilled in the magical arts will possess their own unique domains of consciousness. Their loves, hatreds, yearnings, jealousies, adherence, and passions of the soul will be stored here. In the fictional tales of other novels, this space is called Summerland.

Fischl's father is undoubtedly not a mere shade. He is majestic and mighty, and helps Fischl to dispel her confusions.

In the final volume, Fischl's mother had already faded away, and so this volume, naturally, did not have this preceding line.

But as the universe entered its denouement and all things within it flowed into the Immernachtreich, she spoke another line of enigmatic intent—

"Find meaning somewhere. The night deepens."

What’s the rationale behind the name Flowers for Princess Fischl if it doesn’t really relate to the similarly named sci-fi Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes…?

The title in Chinese is 《菲谢尔皇女夜谭》, (Fēixiè'ěr Huángnǚ Yè Tán) or literally speaking, “Nighttime Stories of Princess Fischl” (Genshin Impact Wiki).

🤔夜谭, the word transliterated to “Nighttime Stories”, is part of a Chinese idiom 天方夜谭 (Tiānfāng-yètán) which refers to wildly fantastical and bizarre views (if I’m understanding the Chinese definition correctly).*

The idiom originated from… a Chinese name for One Thousand and One Nights.**

…which is a frame story/narrative, which matches how Fischl’s domain is presented and how the team needed to enter the domain’s layers through books. Oh.👀

*Maybe it was misunderstood to be a flower name in the English version, hence Flowers for Princess Fischl? I mean… Telosma cordata, one of its common names being Chinese violet, is known as 夜来香 (lit. “night-induced fragrance”) in Chinese… so 夜谭 might seem like a flower name or something? Though the Chinese violet apparently means “noble soul” in flower language which is a phrase used to describe Fischl various times, but this is probably a coincidence.

**According to the Genshin Wiki, the Korean title for the in-game novel is “피슬 황녀 야화” (Piseul Hwangnyeo Yahwa) which is “motivated from one of Korean translations of One Thousand and One Nights.” I don’t speak Korean, so I can’t verify this claim…
