대립군은 조선시대 군역(현재의 군대) 문제를 다룬 역사영화이다.

명량을 비롯한 이전 영화들이 의병이나 수군에 초점을 맞춘것과 달랐다

이 영화는 특이하게 임진왜란이 전후로 군역을 대신하는 대립군이라는 제도를 다루었다.

���화 속 토우(이정재역할분)의 대사를 통해서 대립군이라는 제도가 생겨난 것이 사회적 차별에 근거함을 알 수 있다.

영화에서는 대립군의 운영과정에서 대립군들이 거둔 전투결과의 공은 대립군을 관리하는 관리들이 독차지 하는 것으로 보여준다.

이러한 부분들은 현재의 한국의 상황과 매우 유사하다고 할 수 있다.

리뷰를 통해서 1) 대립군이란 소재가 가진 현재와의 연결성과 2) 영화 '대립군' 제작진의 의도를 짐작해보고(?)자 한다.

1) 대립군이란 소재가 가진 현재와의 연결성

거주지역 및 출신지역으로 인한 차별

영화 속에서 토우(이정재 역할)는 궁녀에게 자신의 삶을 담담하게 소개한다. 나라의 편의를 위해서 이주를 시키고 차별하는 부당함을 오히려 담담하게 설명하여서 그 씁쓸함이 더 크게 다가온다. 조선 중앙정부의 지방지역 차별은 세 차례의 전쟁(임진, 정묘, 병자전쟁)을 겪으며 더 심해진다. 이러한 차별은 결국 1811년 홍경래의 난과 같은 민란을 촉발시키는 이유가 되기도 한다.

2) 영화 '대립군' 제작진의 의도

어디까지나 추측이지만 대립군이란 영화의 제목은 동음이의어를 노린 나름의 고뇌가 담긴 제목인 것 같다. 다만 이 부분이 영화의 이야기 전개과정에서 지나치게 소략하게 다루어진 것은 아쉽다.

代立軍 - 이정재 역할분 / 군역을 대신 감당하는 사람

자신의 정체성인 대립군이라는 역할에 시종일관 충실하며 현실적인 선택을 한다

정말 이런 전형적인 케릭터가 있을까 싶다. 흡사 자신을 희생하여 다른 사람을 살리는 모습은 진부하지만 여느 성인군자와 비교해도 손색이 없다.

代立君 - 여진구 역할분 / 임금을 대신 감당하는 사람

개인적으로 이 영화에서 가장 효과적으로 묘사한 케릭터이다.초기의 나약하고 우유부단한 모습이 점차 변화하여 분조를 이끄는 스스로의 정체성을 확립해간다. 사료를 근거했지만 광해군이 대립군 및 백성들과 겪는 일련의 사건들은 픽션이다. 그 설득력이 탁월하다.

부족한 부분들도 존재하지만 그동안 주목(?)받지 못했던 지극히 평범한 소제(인물)가 영화의 제목으로 선정되었다는 것은 조선시대를 다룬 역사영화의 지평을 넓혀주는 효과를 주었다고 할 수 있다.

TV drama The Crowned Clown 왕이 된 남자 (2019 tvN) is the remake of Korean blockbuster Sageuk movie Masquerade 광해 : 왕이 된 남자 (2012) which broke 10 million admission mark in 2012.

The story can be described as Sageuk version of The Prince and the Pauper (1881) by Mark Twain set in the mid-Joseon time period (around early 17th century). The king puts a clown, who looks exactly like him, on the throne in order to escape those who plan to assassinate him.

The movie was focused on King Gwanghae 광해군 光海君 (1575~1641), the 15th ruler of Joseon dynasty who was deposed under a false accusation by a coup, but this TV drama declared that its protagonist will be an imaginary king who happens to be similar to King Gwanghae. For reference, Actor Yeo Jin-Goo already played the Crown prince version of King Gwanghae in Warriors of the Dawn 대립군 代立軍 (2017 Korean movie) [English subbed Trailer].

One thing I love about this TV drama is that the director and the writers are all women. I’ve seen many Sageuk dramas written by female writers, but I’ve never seen any of Sageuk drama/movie directed by a woman. I hope it will get good ratings in the future. Good luck.

if ur interested in jingoo u should check out 대립군!! he plays the same king from the crowned clown except he’s a depressed emo loser (my fav type of role for jingoo). the trailers make it look like a block buster type historical action film, but it’s more of a slow burn character study if ur into that :-)

it’s super underrated, but probably one of his best roles. he’s just so good at being sad lol.

    “Daeripgun” (대립군), ou “Warriors of the Dawn” pour la distribution internationale, est un film historique datant de 2017, co-écrit et réalisé par Jeong Yoon-cheol, à qui l’on doit également “A Man Who Was Superman” (2007). Les acteurs principaux sont Lee Jung-jae, qu’on a pu voir dans “Assassination” (2015), Yeo Jin-goo, qu’on a pu voir dans “1987: When the Day Comes” (2017), Kim Mu-yeol, qu’on a pu voir dans “Illang: The Wolf Brigade” (2018), Park Won-sang, qu’on a pu voir dans “Miracle in Cell No. 7” (2013), Lee So-young, qu’on a pu voir dans “Man on High Heels” (2014), Bae Soo-bin, qu’on a pu voir dans “Memories of the Sword” (2015), Kim Myung-gon, qu’on a pu voir dans “Steel Rain” (2017), Park Hae-joon, qu’on a pu voir dans “Jo Pil-ho: The Dawning Rage” (2019), Oh Kwang-rok, qu’on a pu voir dans “Countdown” (2011).

L’histoire proposée par “Warriors of the Dawn” nous plonge à la fin du XVIe siècle, alors que les forces japonaises envahissent la péninsule coréenne, le roi Seonjo fuit vers le nord pour trouver protection auprès de l’empire Ming, abandonnant son peuple dans ce processus. À sa place, il laisse le Prince Gwanghae (Yeo Jin-goo) diriger ce qui reste de la cour royale et affronter l’ennemi. Pour le protéger un petit groupe de soldats par procuration dirigé par To-woo (Lee Jung-jae). Ces soldats sont payés pour servir dans l’armée au nom des autres, seul moyen pour eux de subvenir aux besoins de leurs familles.

“Warriors of the Dawn” est donc un film historique, l’histoire se déroulant en 1592, à la frontière Chino-coréenne. Les récits se déroulant à cette époque se font souvent au détriment de ce que l’on appelait communément le petit peuple, entraînant dans son sillage un lot de drames. Dans le cas présent, les paysans sont opprimés par leurs autorités et massacrés par l’ennemi. En outre, ceux ayant développé des compétences dans l’art de la guerre sont enrôlés dans l’armée comme substituts d’autres soldats, œuvrant sous l’identité de ces derniers, en échange d’une solde permettant de faire vivre leurs familles. Bien évidemment, le film peut être considéré comme un film d’action et/ou de guerre, les principaux protagonistes ayant maille à partir avec l’envahisseur japonais.

Il y a un super travail au niveau des personnages. Le scénario concocté par Shin Do-young et Jeong Yoon-cheol met deux personnalités opposées en situations extrêmes. D’un côté, nous avons le Prince Gwanghae (Yeo Jin-goo), jeune homme peureux qui n’assume absolument pas son statut de prince héritier. Il n’a qu’une formation littéraire, et encore, relativement incomplète. Progressivement, son humanisme va le pousser à prendre position en faveur de son peuple. De l’autre côté, nous avons To-woo (Lee Jung-jae), guerrier téméraire, moyennement enclin à respecter la hiérarchie, et prêt à passer la main, dès lors que ses engagements sont remplis. À son tour, il va faire évoluer son état d’esprit, et revenir sur sa décision pour finalement venir en aide à autrui, et même au-delà.

Les éléments de production sont, comme c’est souvent le cas pour les films historiques, vraiment excellents. Le travail sur les décors, les costumes et les détails tactiques et stratégiques, sont admirables. La photographie proposée par Byun Bong-sun est superbe, essentiellement tournée en extérieur dans des endroits montagneux et boisés. Mowg fut chargé de la bande originale qui vient superbement s’intégrer dans l’histoire. Une grosse équipe fut diligentée pour diriger les chorégraphies des combats et autres batailles. L’édition nous offre un métrage de 130 minutes bien structurées, alternant les scènes grandiloquentes et les scènes d’action.

La distribution est importante, mais ce sont essentiellement les prestations de Lee Jung-jae et de Yeo Jin-goo que l’on retiendra ici. Le premier offre sa grande expérience au service d’un personnage fort, courageux, pour ne pas dire téméraire. Le second, bien connu des dramavores, livre un personnage craintif, à la limite du pleutre, qui du jour au lendemain se retrouve à la plus haute fonction du royaume. Le message du métrage peut se lire comme quoi un homme peut se désolidariser de son destin supposé en choisissant lui-même sa destinée. Le tournage a eu lieu du 5 septembre 2016 au 10 janvier 2017. Le titre anglais a évolué de “The Proxy Soldiers” a “Warriors of the Dawn” que l’on pourrait traduire par Les Guerriers de l’Aube…

En conclusion, “Warriors of the Dawn” est un excellent film historique disposant d’une histoire simple, d’un récit fluide et d’une narration linéaire. Le rythme est modéré, ponctué par des scènes d’actions parfaitement orchestrées. La photographie et la bande originale sont plaisantes. La distribution offre de très bonnes prestations, mais ma préférence va à Lee Jung-jae qui n’est autre que l’un de mes acteurs coréens préférés. L’ensemble est un superbe divertissement qui saura agréablement vous occupez pendant deux bonnes heures en cette période de confinement.
