✿ After years of silly childish New Year's wishes, Minnie shares her New Year's wish with Kun who wouldn't want anything else but make that wish come true

“Five! Four!” The sound of multiple voices counting down to midnight filled the living room slash balcony of the dorm where members of WayV, staff and friends had gathered. Excitement and cheerfulness was audible in those voices and sensible in the mood everyone carried.

“Three! Two One! HAPPY NEW YEAR!”

Kun was quick to look at the younger girl at the railing of the balcony. Her eyes were big and innocent — something Kun wasn’t all too familiar with. Minnie usually had a rather stoic look to her. Even when she was around friends and family, she would never show her full emotions. Seeing her eyes sparkle as she watched the fireworks go off in the distance made Kun’s heart full.

As to not startle her, Kun quietly cleared his throat before softly placing a hand on Minnie’s shoulder. She turned towards him almost instantly, but her eyes lingered on the pretty colours in the sky. “Happy New Year, Minnie,” Kun told her softly.

A soft smile appeared on her face as she echoed the same words at him in response. “Isn’t it beautiful?” She pointed at the sky in a childlike manner. Her finger followed the fireworks that caught her attention and Kun could swear he heard her giggle.

In his trance, being completely fascinated by this different side of Minnie he had never seen, Kun forwent an answer. Completely unintentionally at that, but it remained silent on his part.

“It’s been a while since I saw fireworks like this.” She looked at Kun again who eyed her questioningly. “With Covid and being busy or tired on holidays like this, you know?” Kun nodded in response. “My dad and I always made New Year's wishes as we watched the fireworks on New Year where I grew up.”

Kun chuckled softly when he noticed the red tint high on the girl’s cheeks. She was a bit embarrassed to share such cheesy stories of her childhood, but she knew Kun always appreciated things like that. Especially when they came from her.

“Did they ever come true?”

Minnie laughed, thinking back of her wishes. “Yes. Yes, they most definitely did.” The man’s eyes widened in curiosity at her rather surprising answer. “Wasn’t really hard if I always wished for silly little things out loud so that my dad could make sure my wishes came true.”

Both the members laughed with each other for a moment before Kun asked her some examples of her wishes.

“Usually they were dance lessons. Or tickets to concerts. Sometimes just toys,” she told him. “The only time my wish didn’t come true was when I wished for a puppy… I got a dog plushie instead.”

Kun laughed loudly at the story, imagining a young Minnie asking for a puppy. “If that was the only unattainable wish you had, your father must’ve been really happy to have you as a child. Not wishing for insane things.” Minnie nodded with playfulness. She wasn’t exactly saying she was the perfect child, but admitting that her childhood wishes were overall very reasonable. “Any wishes this year?”

Minnie scoffed inwardly, casting her eyes on the floor for a second before looking back up at her leader. “I thought about one, but this might be the first unattainable wish I’ll make,” she told him with a bit of sadness lacing her words. “Minus the puppy, of course.”

She tried to lighten the mood, but Kun wouldn’t let the conversation end there. “Tell me, maybe I can make your wish come through?”

Minnie nodded mindlessly, carefully considering Kun’s request. She turned back towards the sky, but during their conversation, the fireworks had become more sparse. Kun took a step forward and took his place next to the girl. His arm rested against hers sharing some of his quickly decreasing warmth.

The newly shared heat between the two caused Minnie to relax. She didn’t realise it, but she needed the comfort and she gladly would lean into it.

Literally.

She rested her head against Kun’s shoulder. There was barely enough height difference for it to be comfortable though and the older of the two noticed this. He straightened his posture and placed his arm around her to accommodate her. Minnie smiled against his sweater, inhaling the scent that was so Kun. It was so warm and cosy and it made her lose all control over her will to keep things to herself. “I wish that this year WayV doesn’t have to struggle as much as in the last few years. I wish we can all be happy and perform in front of people again without worries. I hope we will have many albums and more projects to show our fans.

“And I wish we can all do it together.”

Minnie smiled and closed her eyes, leaning further into Kun’s warmth. She ignored how his body froze for a few noticeable seconds before he tightened the arm that was loosely slung around her waist. He was pulling her closer and then rested his head on hers.

“I’ll do everything in my power to make your wish come true.”

The girl smiled, but shook her head against the warm sweater of her friend.

“Leader-nim,” she said in a stern voice, but giggled right after. Kun turned his face so he was just able to see the smile on her lips and he hummed softly against the crown of her head.

“You already do more than enough.”

Minnie joined SM in 2018

She was casted after participating in an international dance competition

She revealed she never had aspirations of becoming an idol, but when she was casted she wasn’t pursuing a career and wouldn’t mind trying to see what being a trainee was like

Eventually she said she fell in love with dancing in another way than she did before competitively and her members helped her decide that she wanted to debut with them

She joined WayV during the groups debut

Minnie grew up in China for most of her life after her Korean parents divorced and her father moved to China for his career

She got back in contact with her mother when she was a teen and has a good relationship with both her parents and their new partners

Minnie thinks her Korean name is a bit awkward, but she likes that she has one because she only got back in touch with her Korean roots when she joined SM

Minnie’s Chinese name was given by her Chinese childhood friends and step-mother

She likes her Chinese name, but she prefers people calling her Minnie

With all the videos of her dancing pre-debut, fans had wished for her to debut as a soloist or in a new girl group

She got wind of this and even apologised for her poor Korean skills in a well written letter and a spoken message on her bubble account

Kun and Ten shared their disappointment with the fans that Minnie had felt the need to apologise and later with the permission of Minnie, they shared her slow progress was caused by her dyslexia

Ten shared that Minnie and him took Korean lessons together and she felt bad that she had to sit in a class as the only Korean person

He said that she tried really hard to learn quickly which was hard because of her dyslexia and caused her stress, which in turn caused her progress to slow down even more

Later, Yuta, another foreigner member, shared that he spoke to Minnie plenty of times and that she wasn’t lacking whatsoever, but that she was very hard on herself and the hate caused her stress which made her too nervous to talk

He wished fans wouldn’t talk badly about her skills and rather wanted them to praise her, because she did improve from when she first joined SM

She also got backlash for not speaking much during interviews, especially when they were Korean interviews, but Kun made sure to let people know that each member had their roles to fill and that the other members agreed to take the word during interviews more

There were rumours Minnie wasn’t as close to other female members, but Subin dismissed the rumour saying that they were close, but Minnie just had very different schedule which is why they aren’t seen together much

Eunjae’s Relationships with: NCT Dream

Mark:

You can’t tell by how close and comfortable these two are now, but it took a while for Mark to get close to Eunjae

When Eunjae was still a trainee she had many high highs↗ but also many low lows ↘ and everything in between

She was very hard for Mark to understand and it definitely took him a second to even approach her

One day Eunjae noticed Mark having a hard time explaining something in Korean to another Korean trainee, so she walked up to them and told Mark to tell her whatever he needed to say in English so she could relay the message in Korean

Ever since Mark grew somewhat curious of Eunjae

She was weird to say the least, but it wasn’t a bad kind of weird at all

So Mark decided it wasn’t too bad of an idea to get to know Eunjae a bit more and he was happy he did because when SM told them she was debuting in NCT they were already close pals

Eunjae sometimes takes his role as the “group’s leader” too seriously and she looks at him as some kind of mentor

Mark had to reassure her that “hey, we’re friends, I’m not more or better than you. I’m just here to make sure things don’t get too chaotic.” Looks at Jeno holding Haechan in a choke hold “Well, I’m trying at least.”

You know how some idols are just weirdly in sync with random things they do?

That’s Mark and Eunjae for you

Eunjae also genuinely laughs at Mark’s dumb jokes (they both laugh super easily) and Dream’s just like: ??? “That’s funny to you?”

Mark’s super proud when he makes her laugh so soft

Talking in English in front of the dreamies to tease/annoy them? YUP! They understand them more now, so they don’t do it often anymore

All in all, super soft, cute, adorable relationship 10/10 would recommend

Renjun:

Renjun didn’t really like Eunjae that much when he joined SM

She was very outspoken and sometimes it came across as rude to Renjun

He felt like she was using her “seniority” to command other trainees around, but she was just trying to help out

When Eunjae realised Renjun didn’t seem to like her, she felt a bit hurt, annoyed and even confused, because “What did I ever do to him?”

Renjun is also known for not having the most patience some times, so when Eunjae started training with them and was struggling with basic dance moves his patience would run out a bit too quickly and Eunjae would catch him rolling his eyes multiple times at things she did wrong

It actually took the other members telling him he should be more patient for him to actually give Eunjae a chance

He’d start to see how much she actually practised and realised her lack of progress and skill wasn’t because she was lazy or slacking off

After that he felt really bad for judging her so quickly and even though he was just stressed sometimes because of his trainee life, he knew he couldn’t blame his previous behaviour on that

Even though the side glances and eye rolls stopped after that, it took until just a few months before Dream’s debut that Renjun and Eunjae started being actual friends

Now they’re the perfectly balanced duo

Renjun’s directness contrasts Eunjae’s naivety very well

When Renjun runs out of patience, Eunjae either tells the boys to hurry up or she stands by Renjun to “calm him down” or just keep his mind off things until the rest are ready

EunJun/JaeJun: A solid “started from the bottom now we’re here”/10 & a “shipname still pending...”

Jeno:

Out of all the members, Jeno and Jaemin probably understand Eunjae better than she understands herself

While the other Dream members kind of let her do her own thing while looking out for her, Jeno keeps Eunjae in check

You’ll see Jeno motioning to her to calm down (politely) when she (often with the rest of the maknae line) is getting too rowdy, or tell her to pay attention when she doesn’t notice someone else is talking

If necessary Jeno will carefully pull or push her around when they are in busy places to make sure she doesn’t get lost in the crowd

Overall Jeno and Eunjae are pretty chill

They enjoy having calm conversations and love “complaining” about how the other members never help in the dorm

Old grandparents vibes coming from these two and it annoys the other members to the core, but that just more fuel for those two to continue

When the members say that the way Jeno acts sometimes makes him look like he’s the maknae, it’s a 100 percent true

He usually denies it though, but when it comes to Eunjae he secretly loves being babied by her👀

He won’t go out of his way and act cute for her or anything, but he won’t push her away when she coos at him, ruffles his hair or squishes his cheeks

As long as she knows he’s still older than her at the end of the day he’s fine with it

Haechan:

Food is was 100% their love language

They’d sneak out during their trainee and early idol days to get dinner or just snacks

However once she got a lot of hate for her appearance her relationship with food was never the same

Her relationship with Haechan though ;) Still as strong as ever

Outside the usual teasing (which surprisingly he doesn’t tease her that much) he has a huge soft spot for Eunjae

He won’t be too clingy or touchy on camera (because some fans be tripping sometimes yk -_-) but he’s always keeping an eye out for her

During the time that Mark wasn’t in Dream, he, Jaemin and Jeno shared custody of Eunjae

“I’m not a child. I’m only a year younger than you.”

Eunjae is old enough to take care of herself, the boys know, BUT she just has a lot of small little things she does that make the boys Haechan worry about her

Like when she gets nervous and absentmindedly shakes her legs, or when she tries to bite at the skin around her nails, or when she pulls at the loose strands of her hair, or... I think you get the point: A LOT of nervous habits

Haechan is always the one to reach out for her hand or hold her knee so she’ll stop shaking it (They sit together during interviews)

If he didn’t she’d continue without noticing what she’s doing

She reminds him of Mark (a bit too much sometimes) and we all know how Haechan looks at and treats Mark ^^

He’ll purposely say and do things to confuse Eunjae because “she’s so cute when she looks lost”

This is a “I didn’t know Haechan could be so soft for someone”/10

Jaemin:

Let’s her be her natural weird self

He’s not “normal” either so it’s only fair

Jaemin treats Eunjae the same way he treats Chenle and Jisung

With utmost adoration in his eyes

They have this thing were Eunjae stands in front of him and he only has to slightly tiptoe to rest his chin on the top of her head, or she’ll just stand with her feet a bit further apart (that’s 10 cm of difference for ya)

Jaemin loves holding her in his arms whenever they are doing a live stream together with the dreamies

Like they’ll be completely silent, sitting on the far side of the screen just minding their own business

They don’t necessarily have to be talking, but every once in a while, Jaemin will whisper something in Eunjae’s ear and she giggles and then they continue playing with each other’s hands/fingers and... NOW EVERYONE IS JEALOUS OF THEM (＞﹏＜)

He’s biased, but Eunjae is the prettiest girl in his eyes

It’s not even about her looks (though she’s stunning), but he just loves her personality, flaws and all

They can gush about each other for hours

However it’s usually Eunjae cooking, since Jaemin gave up after the boys didn’t appreciate his cooking enough

They all seem to love Eunjae’s cooking, so she cooks almost everyday when they don’t have schedules, and Jaemin is her assistant

Her weakest point was always dancing, so Jisung wanted to help her

Eunjae Facts:

Eunjae was one of the first NCT members to join SM as a trainee

She auditioned at the age of 9 and joined SM in 2011 at the age of 10

Eunjae got in through a weekly audition when she was visiting Seoul with her mother, she wasn’t prepared but decided to try anyway and got in because of her vocal potential and her passion (K-pop Daebak w/ Eric Nam)

Similarly to Johnny, she would only attend training over summer break and other schoolbreaks until she was 13

She graduated high school, but this caused her to miss some of Dream’s schedules

Eunjae’s interested in song writing and producing

Information leaked that SM was planning on letting Eunjae graduate from NCT Dream despite her age with Mark in 2018

According to the leaks it was said that Eunjae would graduate because “She graduated NCT Dream’s concept” (SM alleged official Statement) and it would be promised that she would be put into a new unit (in the future) that would fit her image better

SM has not elaborated on the leaks, but fans speculate they were planning to put Eunjae in WayV who debuted 2019

Instead Minnie debuted with WayV

During Eunjae’s first year(s) of being an idol, she received a lot of negative attention from (mostly Korean) fans for her weight and her visuals

She seemed to struggle to manage her weight and her appearance would change visibly between different promotions

She was never overweight, she just carried most of her weight in her face making her overall look chubbier, yet the harsh beauty standards in Korea/Asia made her the target of many online malicious comments

K-netizens criticised her a lot for her a lot for her appearance along with being a girl in a boy group, giving her the title of least liked member of NCT in Korea which definitely seemed to hurt her confidence on stage

In 2018 she lost most of her baby fat and the hate towards her seemed to lessen significantly

When NCT 2018 visited Weekly Idol the hosts made a very unnecessary comment after during the ‘Cover Dance Battle’ segment

Eunjae didn’t participate in any of the dances until until the girl group songs came up and she got coaxed into dancing by her fellow members

She knew all of the dances and did them really well, earning a lot of cheers from the members

Once the segment ended and the win went towards Haechan and NCT 127, the host Connie (Defconn) said: “Eunjae-ssi. You were very good at the girl group dances,” to which the other host, Donnie (Jung Hyung-don), added: “Haven’t you thought about debuting in a girl group? Looks like you’d do well.”

Eunjae, visibly uncomfortable, just thanked the hosts for the compliments, avoiding the question and they all moved on with the show

During the rest of the show Eunjae’s energy seemed significantly lower than earlier in the show, but she stayed professional and kept smiling while participating in the last segment

Her fellow members also seemed a bit uncomfortable after the comment and some would even stay by her side for the rest of the episode

Quickly enough, Subin felt the grip on her wrist loosen a little, but Wendy was still holding onto her securely so that she couldn’t flee. “What—”

“Oh, Wendy? What are you doing here?” A deeper, male voice sounded from just around the corner. One that Subin did recognise as familiar, but didn’t know who it belonged to. She must’ve just heard the voice a lot because the boy or man either was a trainee or worked there, but besides that Subin couldn’t say much about it.

The younger of the two girls could see Wendy grin and look up quite significantly. He must be taller. Subin noted mentally and she also clocked in that he spoke English.

“I train here, am I not allowed to be here?” she answered with a teasing tone, but before the other person could answer Wendy pulled Subin towards her and hid behind her taller frame. She held onto Subin’s shoulders to make sure she didn’t run away. “This is Subin! She’s also from Chicago!”

Subin’s eyes widened almost comically as she finally made eye contact with the tall man. His brows furrowed as he started to believe the girl wasn’t too happy to see him, but when she suddenly smiled at him, his expression softened. “Hi, I— Well, unnie told you already. I’m Subin,” she introduced herself in a mix of English and Korean and stretched out her hand welcomingly.

“I’m Johnny,” he said as he reached for her hand and gave it a quick but soft shake. “And you’re also from Chicago?”

Subin smiled sheepishly, but answered with confidence, “I lived there until I was 8, but… It’s been a few years since I was 8 so I’m pretty much just Korean.” Johnny laughed along with her, slipping in a quick compliment on speaking both English and Korean well.

“You’re still from Chicago! It doesn’t matter how long you lived there! I’m trying to find a common ground here so you can become friends!” Wendy commented with fiery excitement about two of her friends meeting. “OH! You’re both the same age!”

Johnny and Subin quickly turned to each other and confirmed their birth year, falling into more laughter afterwards. “That’s such a weird but cool coincidence,” Johnny said and Subin nodded her head. “You are a trainee here as well?”

“Yes, I just joined a few weeks ago,” she answered.

“Oh! I think I heard about you before…”

As the conversation went on, Wendy stealthily slipped away from the two new found friends, feeling that the two clicked instantly. And she was right. Subin and Johnny continued to talk for hours in the middle of the hallway — granted it was one that was only really frequented by trainees so they weren’t bothering anyone.

After a while Johnny had noticed Subin leaning against the wall and constantly readjusting her standing position. “Are you tired?” he chuckled as she let out a sigh.

“My feet are killing me,” she groaned before she smiled brightly at him. “I had a 4 hour practice before this.”

“Oh my god! Why didn’t you tell me? We could’ve gone somewhere where we could sit down to talk,” he told her with a slightly worried tone, but still Subin could only laugh and smile at him. “Do you have to be somewhere now? We could go to the cafeteria to eat, or—”

“I’d love to, but I have singing classes soon.”

Johnny nodded, helping Subin off her leaning position against the wall. “Next time?”

In response Subin nodded excitedly, earning another smile from Johnny who had found her bright disposition insanely charming. “Next time. I’m not denying a free meal for making my feet suffer for hours!” she told him as she headed towards the staircase.

“Free?!” Johnny yelled after her, but couldn’t help but smile. Even if it wasn’t a joke, he didn’t mind.

“Yes! Now I’ll see you next time!”

Without being able to say “bye”, Johnny watched Subin disappear behind the door towards the stairs. To his side he could hear a little shuffling, causing him to snap his head towards the sound. Behind the door, a pair of big eyes peered out the room. “Who was that?” A hissed whisper sounded from behind the door.

Johnny laughed before going inside to find a few other male trainees. “Subin. The new trainee,” he told them and Taeyong’s eyes widened.

“Subin? Is she like… scary like people say she is?” Yuta’s question made Johnny laugh and the thought of joking around with them crossed his mind for a second, but Johnny didn’t want to do that to Subin. It was true that when Wendy brought Subin over, he thought she’d be more like the rumours. Stiff, cold, but really good at singing and picking up dancing and rapping really fast. However, when he started to talk to her, his view of her immediately shifted. He personally didn’t want to believe the rumours, but meeting her and actually getting to know her showed how false the rumours were. Even after the first few seconds they met, when he smiled at him, he saw someone he wanted to get to know better.

“She’s nothing like the rumours. You should talk to her one day,” Johnny simply stated, causing the boys to eye each other nervously.

“Maybe… Let’s just focus on practice first,” Taeyong mumbled, trying to change the subject. He had seen Subin before. She was really pretty, though she did have a cold presence. He wanted to believe Johnny, but somehow he thought a nice trainee, who was good at everything and that pretty, was too good to be true.Johnny chuckled as he watched all his friends and co-trainees gather back in the middle of the room. “I don’t know. I have a feeling we’re all gonna be really good friends.”
