Coming back to one of my favourite novels!! Yu Hua I missed you. Yu Hua my beloved.

Destroyers are invading the world for the first time in 15 years, alarming the Protector Agency. You Zhengping, captain of the Xueyang district and in the possession of a spatial power, is unable to take charge when his husband Yu Hua is implicated. Not only is Yu Hua the only 'normal' person in a studio set up by the first Destroyer they detained, he seems to have... Completely suppressed the Destroyers sent to the studio.....

Yu Hua is the only person to have 'cleared' the System, coming to a truce with the slave driver that occupies countless worlds 15 years ago. He settled in a world devoid of the System's control, and used half of the System's own power to supress the power he accumulated from over 3,000 worlds. Although he was initially planning to live a peaceful final life and die, everything changed the second he met You Zhengping.

Everything changed.

You Zhengping is adamant. Yu Hua can't be a Destroyer, he hasn't changed at all! He's a completely ordinary human!

This is a novel I will always come back to with great glee (because I get to read it again, heh). I love pretty much everything about this novel. Its translated extremely well and has an incredible story with fun characters and interesting worldbuilding. I want a million more novels with this kind of setup. Its fun~

Yu Hua is very.. complex. He has an intense desire to rule and control, and its especially bad when it comes to his husband You Zhengping. He restrains this well for the most part, but ends up acting petty about some little things because he feels aggrieved. He's domineering within his workplace, but cute with his husband. His sense of orderliness borderlines compulsion, but You Zhengping somehow manages to add chaos and color to his life. Yu Hua is thousands of years old, lonely and weary. His Xiao You makes his ordinary life worth living, even if it disrupts all his carefully laid out plans. Peacefully living one last life, peacefully dying? No, his husband deserves better than that.

You Zhengping is really interesting. He is *absolutely* smitten for Yu Hua. A total wife guy. He's so concerned with Yu Hua's mood, and worries over keeping him safe especially as the plot begins to ramp up. You Zhengping is stubborn, has a huge sense of responsibility as the captain of the Protectors in Xueyang, and won't take failure as an option. He wants everything, and won't sacrifice anyone for the greater good. Its this attitude that creates a situation where everyone can be saved, and You Zhengping thrives on being able to protect those he's in charge of. He is quite the opposite of his dear husband, but in a way that complements him quite well.

I don't have a brain right now, so bear with me on my rambling.. I think the plot and misunderstandings are executed flawlessly. I really liked the double 'misunderstanding' that their husband is completely ordinary. Zhen Li dancing around the revelation that Yu Hua is the Clearer with the other members of the studio is incredibly fun and as each person comes to find out, it gets funnier each time. Yuan Luori in particular struggling to not do a complete 180° in attitude towards Yu Hua is really fun. I like the mutual struggle of the husbands as they try to figure out if they want the other to know or not. I like the subplot of Lian Yufan's hatred towards Luo Huai and I love each of the Destroyers who end up as part of the studio. Yu Hua smacking Huan Zixu down because he 'uses the rules' and walks in grey areas is also great (and Yu Hua likes causing others despair. what a great personality). I think the literal only downside to this novel is that there's no female characters at all, but this is also something I didn't realize until Joelle mentioned it when he read it ~forever ago. Also contacts don't work like that.

Anyways, go give it a read!! If you're going to read anything I review (besides the Nian Zhong novels), this would be the one I point to!!

How is the translation? Perfect. I think there were maybe 3 typos the entire time, E. Danglars always does an incredible job. Chapter 33->34 pagination is broken and you need to navigate to 34 using the ToC.

Would I recommend this novel? Absolutely.

Would I reread this novel? Yes. I will always come back to my favourite guy Yu Hua 🥺

Book of the Week: Devil Venerable Also Wants to Know

Author: Cyan Wings/Qing Se Yu Yi (青色羽翼)

My Synopsis: When a book detailing future events falls from the sky and lands into his hands, Devil Venerable Wenren È becomes curious about how his life could possibly become so entangled with some random female cultivator with terrible, terrible taste in men that he would give his life for her. Yin Hanjiang, his totally-not-in-love-with-shizun disciple, would also like to know.

My Actual Review: If "girl, stand up!" were a novel, this would be it. A great deal of it is humor from Wenren È tryna psychoanalyze why Baili Qingmiao has such terrible taste in men—because all the other women around him are also like “we don’t know wtf is wrong with her either” 😭 Wenren È also has a personality that reminds me a little of Tianlang-jun from svsss (minus the deadbeat dad part). Moments of angst do show up, but they are mostly around character backstory, so be prepared for that when we get flashbacks. I feel like this book has a similar payoff style to 2ha, in that certain details of some characters' backstories are presented early on in a very matter-of-fact way, only to have those details turned on their heads later in the story with the addition of some withheld information. Easily one of my favorite narrative structure styles.

Yes there is an age gap in this romance. No it is not grooming. Wenren È picks the child Yin Hanjiang up out of a corpse pile and drops him off at a waterfall for ten years to basically raise himself lmao. They don't get together until they are both adults. For real content warnings, because the plot of this story is the revision of a stallion, male power fantasy novel, all the scum behaviors of the (previous) male protagonist are shown to be addressed, so yeah.

河野太郎が、「年末調整を廃止して全納税者が確定申告する税制にする」とXで宣言して炎上や賛同やらされている問題。これはずっと以前から理想的な税制として語られてきたもので、別に太郎が急に閃いた事ではない。 https://x.com/konotarogomame/status/1830737429361504665/photo/1 https://nordot.app/1203999108206085074 　 シャウプ勧告 元々はGHQが戦前の日本の旧弊で反民主的な税制を是正せんとした税制改造（シャウプ勧告）に端を発する。つまりは民主的税制案である。 戦前の日本では納税単位がイエ単位であったり、戦時増税として物品税が多く設定されている為に市場じゃなくて個人売買した方がお得とか、税務署自体もやたら威張っているなどの問題があった。イエ単位の納税は個人がイエに縛られている事を前提とするので反自由、反民主的であり、会社員世帯が税額の面で不利になる。戦前は資本主義が未発達で会社員は限られたエリート的な身分だったが、これが大衆化して給与も下がったら不公平は看過しえないものになる。また地方自治体の税収源が少なすぎる為にを国家中央が握る地方交付金に依存しすぎているのがファシズムの浸透の原因にもなった。 　 こういう判断でアメリカ型の税制の更に理想的な形を日本で施行して、根幹から民主的資本主義国家の骨格を持たせようとした。 それで導入されたのが、法人税、青色申告と複式簿記、固定資産税などだ。戦前では土地の税金は地租、家屋の税金は家屋税で、共に国税であった。これを廃止して地方税の固定資産税として納税先は自治体となった。 　 で、問題の源泉徴収、年末調整だが、これも廃止して個人の確定申告にする事がシャウプ勧告に入っていた。だが困難という事で見送りされてしまったのである。 それはまず取りっぱぐれの問題。税務署も会社を押さえておけば効率的に所得税は見逃しなく徴税出来るが、社員個人の確定申告のみとしたらバックれる奴が出てくるに決まってるし確認作業も大変だ。 もう一つは社員が確定申告に来るのが大変だという問題。確定申告の為には一日休まなきゃならない。そして税務署で���々並んで…というのをやらないといけない。当時産業が殆ど吹っ飛んでしまって生きるのも大変な時期に金を払う為に一日休めるか、会社も社員がごっそり来ないという状態を是認できるか。 こういう反対意見に押し切られて天引きの源泉徴収と年末調整のままになってしまった。 　 総確定申告の理想性 シャウプ勧告には有ったのに見送られてしまった総確定申告制だが、その後も理想的税制として導入を訴える声はあった。 それはまず、太郎も言っている��税の仕組みが判るようになり、使われ方にも分解能が上がるだろうという事。 ブクマページなどでは「この機会に簡素化して控除も無くそう」みたいな事言ってる人がいるが、逆だよ逆。どういう行動の支出に控除があるのか、自分はどの控除が掛かっているのかという事を知る事が出来る。「控除も無くそう」というのは天引き以外の納税を知らない意見だ。「所得税」の欄の数字が所得額から単純に出てると思ってる。だがこの数字は会社が控除額を計算して算出しているのだ。 控除がどこに掛かるかを知れば、現在の国が不公平を是正する為に会社員のどこの負担を認めて差っ引いているかが判るようになる。 もう一つは利害の誘導。国がどのような行動をして欲しいか、というのが控除に現れる。マイホームを買ってローンを組んで欲しいか（見かけ上通貨流通量の増加→インフレ）、子供を産み育てて欲しいかなどだ。これは法人税や青色申告だともっと鮮明に意図が見える。 　 納税者意識は確実に高まるしその使われ方にも興味が行き易い。 今までは確定申告の為に一日休んで税務署に行くというのが負担だった。年度内で転職したのに確定申告に行かない（行けば取り過ぎ分還付されるのに）人も多かった。 でも電子納税なら夜でも出来るし時間も掛からない。税務署で並ぶ必要もない。負担にならないのだ。テック万歳である。 　 という事は増田は太郎の意見に賛同していると思うじゃん？残念だが反対なのだ。 　 ネオリベラリズム残滓の問題 太郎の意見ではこの施策が 所得情報を迅速に把握できるので、必要な人にピンポイントでプッシュ型支援を行うことができる としている。だが「所得情報を迅速に把握」と「ピンポイントでプッシュ型支援」は繋がるのだろうか？ この二つは別の問題じゃないのか？ 更に現在でも源泉徴収の為に社員のマイナンバーは必須となっている。総確定申告化で何か変化があるのか？何もない。 因みに自治体によっては低所得者向けに交通チケットや給付金、買い物券などの支援をやっている。現在でも納税額を見てプッシュ型でそれら申込書を送ったりしている。「ピンポイントでプッシュ型支援」されているのだ。 但し地方自治体が所得額を把握するには、国税が所得税確定→それを基に自治体が住民税確定と段階を踏むので、時期は6月辺りになる。太郎はそれを前提に「所得情報を迅速に把握」としたのだろうが、白色申告時期の3月から3か月程度でしかない。この文章を読んで「たった3か月じゃん」と思えないのはダメである。 　 だが問題は何故こういう力点と作用点が違う事象を言っているのに通ってしまうかという事である。 それは2000年代前半の日本でネオリベが流行した為なのだ。 　 日本でのネオリベ流行には特徴があり、支持者に経済音痴が大変多い。商取引での慣行や法制度、更には経済事件は非破廉恥罪で社会の善悪感情と異なるという常識すらない者が多い。 また「メンバーシップ型会社から自由な」個人を謳っているくせに経済事象を給与所得者の延長で考える事が多い。多いというか専らだ。つまりはB層の問題だ。 賛同する政策というのは何かを壊す（入力）というものが多く、その結果は任意の好ましいものになる（出力）という根拠がないものだ。 例えば郵便局を株式会社化して上場させるという入力に、サービス向上という出力が発生すると素朴に考える。だが普通に考えれば配当が欲しい株主が離島や過疎地でのユニバーサルサービス継続に賛成する筈がないよなぁ。 また、賃貸の家賃を安くする（出力）為に土地建物の相続を廃止（入力）して不動産会社が取得すべきという意見も見られた。これは既得権益者の地主などにも諭されていたが、物件取得費を家賃で回収する必要があるから安い物件なんて無くなるわなぁ。 太郎が今言ってる解雇自由化（入力）で雇用流動性という出力が得られる論も同じで、入力と出力が結びついていない。それを結びつけるのにはどうするか？という設問が出ない言論空間をアテにしているのだな。 　 こういうややこしい社会制度を解体したら望ましく自分が得する結果になる筈！というのは90年代まではリベラルがやっていた。自分が抑圧されているのは社会のせいだ、と。また海外出羽守も同じことを言っていた。 2000年以後になるとリベラルは退潮し、代わりにネオリベが流行した。これは市場を喰われたって事である。 だが実際に導入されてみるとこんな考えだったB層達は解放されず、勝者はノウハウを集積出来る法人であった。 また単に市場をシュリンクさせ余剰を無くして全体の賃金を縮小させデフレを進行させただけだった。日本からはGAFAMは現れず、Ankerも現れず、3Dプリンタなどの新しい技術を売る会社に日本企業の名はない。成長してLGサムソンになる会社もいなかった。 これらが出来なくなる基盤だけを提供したのである。日本のネオリベと米韓のそれは性質が違うのだ。 　 ところがそんな入力と出力の間を繋げる努力も無しに任意の入力すれば任意の出力が得られると言って憚らない連中は残存している。彼らが持つ社会へのルサンチマンが入力と出力の必然性を彼等の中で担保しているのである。 そんな連中に向けた言葉を語っているのが太郎なのだ。 今回の太郎の表明に「複雑な税制が無くなって控除が廃止��れる事」を望んでいる意見が寄せられているのがその証拠である。天引きサラリーマンから見たら控除の必要性なんて判らない。それでそれを敷延して判り易い世界が来る事を期待してしまうのだ。もうこういう支持のされ方をする政治家は落とした方がいいだろう。 　 太郎のアカンみ 太郎はかなり面白い来歴の人物だ。Wikipediaにもあるがアメリカの大学で政治学を学んでいるしその途中でポーランドに留学している。その間に後に初代ポーランド大統領になったワレサ「連帯」議長を訪ねている。当時はまだゴルバチョフのペレストロイアの前で、連帯は反体制運動と見做されていて太郎も公安警察にしょっ引かれている。 連帯は自由主義寄りだったユーゴスラビアの自主労組のような組織で、共産党独裁が前提のソ連勢力圏では「修正主義」と見なされて弾圧されていた。だが後の東欧の自由化の先陣を切った運動であった。 その連帯のワレサ議長に、ゴルバチョフ以前に会いに行くというのはすごい行動力だ。筋金入りのリベラルといっていい。 　 だがこういうリベラルが保守側に転向した際に最悪となるエピソードというのは多い。一番判り易いのがアメリカのネオコンサバティブで、その中心人物はスターリンに左翼偏向と詰られたトロツキストだった。 『国益』誌でソ連崩壊をアメリカ的民主体制の勝利（歴史の終わり）とする一派を押しのけて軍拡競争の為と総括した連中が911の衝撃に乗じて共和党内の穏健派を追い出し、宗教右派と手を組んで共和党ジャックしてしまった。その結果イラク戦争を起こし、イラク国内を平定出来ずにISISの活動を許し、中東を戦乱の渦に巻き込んでしまった。責任を問われて失脚し、穏健派をパージしていたので今の共和党は宗教右派と陰謀論のトランピアンに乗っ取られた、アメリカの覇権の内なる脅威みたいなもんになっている。 太郎の場合も実効性や結果のフィードバックを取り込んで行動していない。設計→実行→修正の行政組織の行動葎を取り込まずに、設計しっぱなしなのだ。イージス・アショア配備で断念する旨の報道が出たのに「自分は知らないから誤報」と言って後で泣き言言っていたのを覚えているだろうか？防衛省内の報連相サイクルからパージされていたという事だ。 ワクチン担当でも残数ショートで産業医接種を突然停止させ、その余波で通常の大規模接種も長く停止してしまったのに、それは外部の問題だと言って憚らなかった。自分の行動が及ぼす影響��考えず、自分の設計は正しいと言うだけだった。 どうも安倍菅時代に初入閣してそれが通ると覚えたようである。 　 Xのブロック問題も初めは「変なネトウヨ」（本人談）をブロックしていただけだった。紅の傭兵の息子だから中国のスパイだろお前は、的なものを相手にする必要はない。だが入閣後は自分の行為を評価している人全てブロックになって、マスコミの質問もブロック、となるとただ設計があるだけで、それが適切な出力となって社会に作用するか？という事を問われる環境に居た事が無い。 　 そうすると源泉徴収年末調整廃止と総確定申告化が如何にシャウプ勧告に基づき、ずっと議論されてきた理がある方策だとしても反対するしかない。 しかもこれが「ピンポイントのプッシュ型支援に繋がる」と、入力とまるで関係がない出力が得られる、と言っていれば猶更だ。これは20年遅れのB層に設計しっぱなしの政治家が語っているというだけの下らん話である。それは騙しがデフォルトのコミュニケーションをしているだけに過ぎないのである。

Devil Venerable Also Wants to Know (魔尊也想知道) by Cyan Wings (Qing Se Yu Yi / 青色羽翼)

Devil Venerable Wenren E receives a romance novel set in the world he lived in and features him as a fan-favorite character. Left with a mandate to fix the plot and a lot of questions, he sets off to pull the lead female off her doomed path and keep his loyal subordinate, Yin Hanjiang, from going mad at Wenren E's possible future death.

It's quite good, with both genuinely horrifying and genuinely funny moments and characters. It goes into the power-leveling that a lot of cultivation novels get bogged down in (who is at what stage of what level, who is stronger, leveling up at critical fight scenes, that sort of thing), but it devotes just as much, if not more, time on the more philosophical aspects of cultivation. Wenren E points out multiple times that cultivation means hording and stealing energy, and a major plot point involves causing a minor disaster to hold off an apocalyptic one, and how the mortal world flourished while the cultivators fought and culled themselves.

I love it when a story has something to say.

Oh, and the danmei romance is good, too.
