【かいわいの時】明治四十五年（1912）7月3日：大阪土地建物株式会社、新世界ルナパークを開業。初代通天閣開業（大阪市史編纂所「今日は何の日」）

明治44年（1911）9月、当時としては珍しい一大レジャー施設「新世界」の建設に着手し、翌45年5月に竣工した。新世界は芳五郎も参加して設立された大阪土地建物会社が、第5回内国勧業博覧会跡地の払下げを受けて建設するもので、工事を当社が受注した。天王寺公園に隣接して面積は2万5,000坪（8万2,500㎡）に及び、ここにコニー・アイランドを模した遊園地「ルナパーク」を設け、その周囲に鉄骨高塔、映画館、食堂などを配した盛り場をつくる計画で、この種の施設としてはわが国最初のものであった。鉄骨高塔は勧業博当時、当社が独自に建てた木造150尺（45ｍ）の「大林高塔」の考えを踏襲し、脚部を含めて地上64ｍとし、「通天閣」と名付けられた。通天閣は大阪南の一つのシンボルとなり、後にその名は全国的となった。このほかの遊戯施設にはスケート場、ロープウエイ、ドリームランド、失笑館などがあり、小劇場を兼ねた映画館は13号館まであった。新世界は庶民的な盛り場として、戦争が近づく昭和初年まで多くの人々に親しまれ繁盛した（『大林組百年史』）。第2章　全国規模の事業へと飛躍　2　全国に名を馳せる　■―新世界「ルナパーク」より。

老婆の名は、たしかアグネス・クラムボンボン。一見ごくふつうのシニアだが、本当の姿は人々の幸福を嫌う悪魔である。なぜなら、人々の幸福を願って日々邁進する私に、このような行いをするのは悪魔以外あり得ないからだ。

私は、すぐさま悪魔を倒そうとしたが、あまりにも相手の力は強く、その日の戦いには敗れてしまった。

しかし、私は諦めなかった。ドリームランド（魔法の国）に赴き、魔法使いの賢者に弟子入りをし、修行を重ねた。それが、大学の試験前だろうが、卒業式の日であろうが、いいかげん就活しなければならないときであろうが。

そしてとうとう、その実力は、師匠から「究極の魔法」を教えてもらえるまでに至った。
