Smooth Talker Part 2
Poe Dameron x Reader
Tumblr media
Masterlist - Part 1 - Join My Taglist!
Requested on Wattpad! I normally don't do Part 2 requests, but an idea for this one popped immediately into my head and I couldn't let it go :)
Summary: Through a truly ridiculous series of events, you've managed to become a *triple* agent for the Resistance, being sent back to your original base by the First Order as a trusted spy after spending time as a Resistance spy in First Order territory. You can't wait to be back home, and even better, to tell your boyfriend Poe Dameron just what level of bs you managed to pull off.
Word Count: 1,522
Category: Fluff, Humor
Putting work into an AI program without permission is illegal. You do not have my permission. Do not do it.
I tried to keep a smile off my face as I stood, back straight and hands behind my back, facing General Armitage Hux. He'd been my main point of contact for the past few months after he'd been the one to recruit me as a First Order spy, and the fact that I hadn't laughed in his face a single time that he'd been telling me all about what being a spy would entail was a true testament to my skills.
I'd been undercover for the Resitance deep in First Order territory when he'd come knocking with a bunch of soldiers because he suspected my apartment was a hideout for Resistance sympathizers and activity. And, to be fair, he was right. Poe Dameron, my boyfriend, had snuck in for a rare visit and left literal minutes before Hux and his friends showed up. But I'd done such a good job answering their interrogation questions that, instead of arresting me, they'd recruited me.
Now, after months of preparing, I was being sent on my way to find and infiltrate the Resistance's base. I'd need to be careful not to blow my true allegiances, but once I got out of range of the First Order and was only expected to make occasional reports, I couldn't help thinking this would be my easiest assignment yet.
"Are we clear on communication protocols and the kind of information we're most interested in?" asked Hux as I tuned back in to the end of his lecture. I nodded once, curtly.
"Yes sir."
"Good. Then best of luck to you. You're doing your Order a great service."
I saluted, fast and sharp, exemplifying the unshakeable, blind commitment they looked for in their recruits. I held it for a few moments, then Hux nodded and I let my hand fall back to my side.
"I look forward to hearing what you have to report."
The march through the rest of the ship felt like a dream. I was being dropped fairly far from anywhere the First Order suspected of being a Resistance base to make sure no one would be suspicious of me, but I was still closer to home than I'd been in a long, long time. I could swear I felt the latent tension of the past six months ease out of my shoulders as I watched the ship disappear without me on it.
I took a moment to enjoy the feeling, then quickly got my head back in the game. There was still a chance, however slim, that Hux was playing me. If I wasn't careful, I could accidentally lead the First Order right back to the Resistance base they'd spent so long looking for.
I spent the next week doing my due diligence, making sure no one was following me and that I didn't have a tracker on me anywhere that I didn't know about. I sent a brief update to Hux through the convoluted method we'd come up with for contact, telling him that I had a lead and was going to follow up on it, and then I finally started the trek home.
When the entrance to the Resistance base finally came into view another full week and change later, my heart leapt. It was vital to my cover that I didn't let myself dwell on how much I'd missed this place while living among First Order personnel, but now that I was finally safe, I almost starting crying at the sight of it. I hadn't really realized how badly I'd wanted to be back here until now.
I walked the rest of the way up with a massive smile on my face, scanning the crowd for anybody I recognized. I got some strange looks, largely from newer recruits who didn't know me, but then finally I found one of the people I was most hoping to see.
Poe Dameron stood just across the hanger with his back to me. I grinned and started walking towards him with purpose, and after a moment, the person he was talking to noticed me and pointed over Poe's shoulder. Poe turned around with a frown that quickly changed into a confused but beaming smile, then started rushing towards me. I sped up too, until we were running towards each other across the hanger. As soon as I got in reach, Poe picked me up and spun me around in a tight hug, then set me back on the ground only to pull me into a searing kiss. I kissed him back just as hard, wrapping my arms around his shoulders and tangling my hands in his hair. I ended up breaking the kiss as a joyful laugh bubbled out of me; finally we were together without the looming threat of a First Order solider at the door ruining the moment.
"What... what are you doing here?" he asked, still smiling and completely breathless. I laughed again, joy overflowing in my chest as I looked at the man I loved.
"You'll absolutely never believe it," I said with a crooked smile. He raised an eyebrow at me, so I continued. "I've been recruited as a spy for the First Order."
"...You what?"
I laughed as Poe stared at me, brow furrowed as he tried to figure out what was happening. I couldn't exactly blame him–I still wasn't totally sure how I'd managed to get here.
"It's the craziest story you'll ever hear, and I promise to tell you every last detail later tonight. But right now, I should really go and see Leia."
"Now hold on a minute," Poe said, grabbing my waist and pulling me a little tighter to him. As if I'd be moving away from him voluntarily any time soon. "You have to give me a little more than that, first."
I smiled. "Okay, but you have to promise not to freak out when I tell you the first part."
Poe frowned, looking incredibly nervous, but nodded anyway.
"Alright..."
"So remember the last time I saw you, when you visited me in the apartment where I was hiding out to spy on the First Order? Well that same night, right after you left, General Hux and Kylo Ren themselves came knocking with a whole host of troopers at their backs."
"They WHAT?"
"You said you wouldn't freak out! Just listen."
I could see Poe practically vibrating and fuming with delayed panic and about a thousand questions, but to his credit, he managed to hold them back with nothing more than slightly tightening his grip on my waist.
"Well, they asked me a bunch of questions because they thought a Resistance spy base was operating out of my apartment-" Poe winced, but I ignored him and kept going. "-and I answered the questions well enough that they decided I was clearly a loyal member of the First Order with a passion for them and their rule. So, instead of arresting me, they recruited me to be a spy! Of course I said yes, and now I'm here as a triple agent, so I can feed them a bunch of bad information, or information that comes just a little too late for them to do anything about it while still being correct, all while being here again, on base with you and everybody else."
Poe huffed a disbelieving laugh, just staring and blinking at me for a few moments while he processed. Then a smile spread across his face again, even as he shook his head.
"That is... incredible. I can think of about a thousand other things I could say about it too, but... just wow."
"I know," I said with a grin. I stepped back slightly out of his embrace, then took his hand instead. At some point we would have to go do separate activities on base, but I didn't plan on spending a second away from Poe right now until I had to. "Now, I need to go talk to Leia and Major Ematt about all this. Come with me?"
Poe matched my grin, still shaking his head but letting me pull him out of the hanger base with me.
"Of course. I'd follow you anywhere, you absolute maniac."
I just laughed as Poe fell into step beside me, our hands still held tight as we marched through the base. By no means was this war over; we still had so much work to do, and being back on base didn't even come close to putting me out of danger. But now I was in danger and fighting alongside Poe and all the people I cared about, while still putting my skills as a spy to full use. It was the best of both worlds, and in the middle of fighting back against an Empire that just didn't want to stay down, victories like this alongside loved ones were the things most worth fighting for.

Not your fetch droid
A Star Wars drabble featuring Defector!Hux after the battle of Exegol. Prompt by @the-herdier here.
CRASH.
The sound was louder in his head, the shattering of ceramic more pronounced and it kept going on in his mind much longer than it had in reality.
In Resistance base’ outdoor kitchen on Ajan Kloss, Eremos had lost his balance while carrying a cafeteria tray and the mug had slid off, spilling its contents on the wooden floor. Even as the man looked down, unable to take his eyes off, the liquid slowly trickled through the cracks between the planks, to seep away into the ground. All he could do was stare.
For “Captain Eremos” really was Armitage Hux, a former General of the First Order, former secret ally, former very briefly prisoner of war, but in the end just that: Armitage. Hux. And especially the latter was a problem, for the Hux family’s child rearing techniques had been… Well, by imperial standards they would probably have been called “tried and true”. But for the young boy never knowing whether apologizing after a misstep would lead to him getting left alone or get taken as a sign of weakness, him sometimes getting punished for cleaning up the mess and then again for not doing it, had been confusing as heck. If either could lead to negative effects, then deciding between the two actions was impossible and so young Armitage had tended to freeze up, a reaction he hadn’t been able to train himself out of even as an adult. Hux/Eremos being known as an arrogant person had helped cover up this flaw of his for the longest time: his non-reaction was simply read as utter disdain by the other officers. Well, that wasn’t working anymore in an environment where ranks mattered little.
Hux felt something brushing his arm. No, someone! Or rather a someone/-thing, because that what/who had elbowed his way past the Gen… the Captain just now had been an alien.
“Ey, what’s the proud bastard thinking”, C’ai Threnalli complained to the female pilot walking alongside him. “That we clean up after him?”
Bastard… There it was again. Momentarily captured in his personal hell, Hux didn’t understand the word as an insult in general, but very specifically a stab at his backstory. As a result he froze in place even more tensely; only his nose wrinkled and his upper lip came up, baring the row of teeth. But then he shut his eyes, that had narrowed in the process, completely, seeing nothing and nobody anymore, while the long faded noise of the mug getting smashed on the plank kept ringing like a bell in his head.
“Hey, Remy!”
A familiar voice. And even if his ability to identify the voice had been impaired, there were not many people who were using a name other than “newcomer” for Eremos, let alone the friendly “Remy”.
Finn stepped around Hux, stood in front of him and looked up.
“What’s the matter?”
From the man came no verbal reaction. Only the tip of his left foot, the one on the bandaged leg, tentatively kicked the debris on the floor.
“Yes, I see? So what?”
When no reaction whatsoever came, Finn knelt down next to the mess. He noticed that it had been a standard ceramic mug, nothing personalized, and smiled. When had “Remy” opened his eyes again, that he was able to notice that smile? He couldn’t tell. But he was back now, processing visual input again (even though he still stood stiffly). The Resistance’ kindness, a strange trait to find in such a battle-ready bunch, especially in a former First Order kid like Hux himself, always did that to him.
“It’s not a big deal”, Finn said after having gotten up again.
The words sparked a curt nod of acknowledgement – the closest the former General was even now able to get to thanking people. He only wanted to step away from this spot, find a place somewhere outside the canvas-ceiling, crack the roasted crustacean open over his noodles and eat his fill. As for drinks, there were plenty of ponds and creeks in the forest. Finn had provided "Remy" with an opportunity to escape. Already Hux was feeling his legs again (especially the bandaged one), his muscles were twitching to start the walking-away-to-avoid-further-attention process, when Finn spoke up again, overtly in the same supportive tone, while in reality throwing down the gauntlet:
“We aren’t that strapped for resources that we couldn’t replace a mug and a little fruit juice. You can always go back to the kitchen and get more.”
Get more? Get MORE? From the KITCHEN? What was this man thinking?! Sending Hux to the kitchen to wait on the Resistance like a prisoner of war? He had JOINED the rebels, he wouldn’t serve them hand and foot!
A low growl escaped Hux’ throat, but seeing that he had spent the morning in the dusty workshop with Commander Tico, the man’s throat was dry and the sound died quickly. Hux coughed, while Finn doubled down on his challenge:
“I said you can get more?”
Go… get… more… Go… kitchen… fetch… drinks… for us... Because that’s all you’re good for, kitchen scullion’s brat.
Not even in the slightest intended to get taken in this way, this was what Finn’s words got heard as by the former General. What even did that mean, “former”? There was no substance yet to “Remy”, that could have filled the void his corrupted by the Sith First Order had left. There was only Armitage. Short one empire, but still in possession of all his mental baggage.
Hux glared at Finn, then sidestepped and made haste to leave the “room” that was defined by several poles and the canvas ceiling. And now everyone could forget about the incident – had anybody other than Threnalli, Wright and Finn paid attention to it in the first place, that was. To most it had never happened at all.
*
In the afternoon Poe Dameron found his friend/rival by the provisions crates, where Hux had put a pot of paint onto one of the larger crates and was moving a small brush around. Whatever he was doing looked like precision work, not surprising for a part-time engineer.
“Hey. What’cha doing?”
Poe found the other responsive to his question. With a true craftsman’s pride, Hux presented a set of upturned thumbtacks, that were drying on thin leaves. Every single one had gotten painted in the specific shade of red, that Poe recognized as his boyfriend’s favorite color.
“Why are you painting the tacks burgundy?” Poe asked.
“Because Finn’s chair in the conference room is burgundy, and if the tacks are of the same color, he won’t notice them before he takes a seat.”
“Wait, wait, wait, you two have a feud going on now? Wouldn’t you say you should have cleared that with me first? You know? Poe Dameron? Boyfriend of one and nemesis of the other?”
“Words to the effect of No.”
Hux picked up another thumbtack with a pair of precision mechanic pliers with one hand, then dipped the brush into the paint with the other. For a split second it occured to Poe that with the pliers it would be a lot easier to just dip the tack into the paint can. Was that too messy for Remy's taste or not satisfying enough?
“Finn’s going to get watery eyes", Hux promised. "One way or the other.”
“Oh, c’mon, Remy… You’re being childish!”
“Nice. You all never stop telling us that we have a childhood to reclaim, Finn and me.”
“Reeeeeeymeeeeeeee… Uh, say, you don’t look like someone who’s doing this for the first time?”
“I’ve had some success with the method with the Allegiant General”, Hux replied with the merest hint of a smile.
“You put upturned thumbtacks on Pryde’s chair in the First Order's Supreme Council chamber?” Poe uttered, dumbfounded.
“In spirit only. The actual distribution was performed by a confidante.”
Poe started rubbing his forehead, moaning. Leading the Resistance certainly was different than he had imagined. No matter how close they were to victory, now, after the battle of Exegol. But truth was, they had destroyed only the First Order's additional forces. All previously existing star destroyers hadn’t miraculously went poof now and the citizen’s fleet, motivated as it was, was still very much the underdog. Hux’ expertise as a strategist (albeit not necessarily as a commander in the heat of an actual enemy encounter) was a valuable asset. Even if they hadn’t developed a bond, it simply would have been Poe’s duty to preserve this man’s sanity as well as possible for the Resistance’s benefit.
“Look, Poe, it’s not that difficult to understand”, Hux said. “Everyone else would meet a tragic accident rather sooner than later, had they said to me what Finn said today. But… He’s Finn. Sort of my little brother. Granted, the kid brother who never listens, but in any case the result of the same parenting I got subjected to. I cannot arrange Finn’s of all people’s death! So I had to get creative in my revenge.”
“Revenge.”
Hux sighed.
“You two and Rose, you… You didn’t exactly change me, but with you around my options broaden. It’s as if I could access spaces on the Dejarik board now that were formerly blocked and found new units in my roster. But if you treat me like a stray that you brought in and think you can teach tricks to, then you’ll find that this HURTS.”
Finn has done what exactly? Poe wondered. Must be some misunderstanding. I’ll need to get at the root of this.
“Alright. You and me, we’re now going to sit down like the adults we are. And you’ll tell me…” Poe momentarily considered his next words, then finished with: “…all about Pryde sitting on those tacks.”
You had to take small steps. Start on a positive note. (And subtly let the tacks disappear.)
---
Note:
My goofball nature immediately zoned in on the “get more” in the original post and I knew I had to exploit that. I hope you don't mind!

Hux was looking at white and gold make up of Kylo Amidala.
"Golden tears ? It's over dramatic even for you, Senator"
"These are tears of my people, general. People you want to violate and enslave. People you want to use so your pathetic military regime not collapse. I will not agree to that. And be aware that on my planet i am not Senator. I am a monarch. Respect that if you want to get anything from Naboo."
Hux was silent for few seconds. Then he bowed his head slightly.
"Apologies, your majesty."
"My, my. Much better. You are not that stupid, aren't you?"
"I believe we may have common needs, your majesty."
"Do we? How my peaceful and neutral planet can have common needs with... what are you calling yourselves these days?"
"First Order, your majesty. Is it true that Naboo doesn't have an army?"
"Knights of Ren are more than enough. Have you met them?"
" I have heard. But for how long? There are lots of dangers in Galaxy. Can your Knights of Ren stop battlecruiser attack? "
" Do not threat me, general." Kylo hissed. "Or i will show you of what my knights are capable of."
"Yours? So rummors are true? You are their leader? Isn't it dangerous for a monarch to fight like that?"
" Keeping my people safe is first and most important of my duties."
"It is. And i only want to help you with that"
Kylo laughed.
" You are clever... " He tilted his head "But i will not let you build factories here. Nor take my people. And i will not be threatened. You're less scary than you think you are" he smiled. " If i may you are rather... lovely."
Hux blinked.
"Excuse me?"
"No need. Alright. Let me tell you something general. I don't care about Republic. But I care about Naboo. I know what you need. Money, support, resources... Your army is indeed impersive. You can have my support and credits. Not all of them of course... but i am sure we can negotiate a fair terms. Be aware that i will not let you drain my planet to nothing. And that i have one condition."
"Yes?"
"My support and my money will be my wedding gift for you."
"Wedding gift?"
"Yes. " Kylo smiled.
"I... don't have any matrimonial plans, your majesty"
"Well. Now you have. You will get my support only as my husband."
Hux's eyes went wide.
" I don't think that high command... "
" I think they will be delighted. Getting my money and getting rid of you. Ah... i can see on you face that i am right but... we can kill them later... "
Hux felt immensely uncomfortable under Kylo's gaze. He looked around.
"it's... treason. "
Kylo shrugged.
"Only if we fail. And i never fail. Take my hand general and give me one year. You will have not only me, not only Naboo, not only First Order. You will have entire galaxy." Hux wanted to say something but Kylo interrupted "There is no catch. I am just securing my position. I am sure that you understand. What do you say?"
"Why?"
" Didn't you listen ? You are rather lovely. " He winked and laughed. "Armitage... Do you have something to lose? You bowed and kneeled before so many people to get where you are. But this time they will kneel before you. Before us. Treat it like... another war agreement. "
And Hux took his hand. Telling himself that he can kill him any time. Its just... for some time. Securing Naboo was important. More important than his own comfort. And high command was indeed delighted. Especially Pryde. Till the wedding.
Hux was sitting on the throne looking at the blood on the floor. Looking at knights who were tearing apart members of high command. Like savage animals.
"Enjoying your gift Armitage?" Kylo smiled glancing at him from another throne.
"Brute." Kylo laughed. He put a hand on his back.
" Don't be mad. I promised that First Order will be yours. Now it is."
"Is it?" He snorted. " Clever of you. Bound the last high ranking officer to yourself. Knowing that i will not be able to get rid of you because of your... force thing. Killing everyone else. Keeping me on the planet and...
"You are free to go you know that right?"
"What?"
"I have no intentions of imprisoning  you. You are my husband not my slave. " He laughed. " Stop seeing me as your enemy my dear. We are equal now. Lead your army. Call me when you will need help." Hux moved back when Kylo leaned closer. " Not even one goodbye kiss?" He smiled. Hux glanced at him and stood up. He left the room leaving bloody footsteps behind.
" Master? Should we follow him?"
"No. Galaxy is a lonely place." Kylo smiled " He will call."

Chapter Summary
The Knights of Ren visit the Kuat Drive Yards; young Dade navigates the decrepit streets of Coruscant under the First Order’s oppressive rule; Chancellor Hux and the Supreme Council meet with the Warlord Cabal...
Excerpt
From his cushy office in the Capitol, Chancellor Armitage Hux watched with some satisfaction as the crowds below dispersed. It would be a quiet few days thanks to their swift action on Kuat. An execution always the best means of control, for a fearful populace was a compliant populace-- something his father both knew and appreciated. If only Brendol Hux could see him now. Armitage had accomplished more in his life at just thirty-six years of age than his father ever did during his accursed lifetime. Hux caught a glimpse of himself in the transparisteel and scowled. Premature grey streaked his once flaming red hair at the temples, giving him a resemblance to his father that was both uncanny and unwelcome. Still, he refused to dye it and he even smoothed it back, making sure it was presentable. He considered himself the true leader of the First Order, and a good leader led by example. The pit of Hux’s stomach churned with hate for Kylo Ren. Ren’s hair was the furthest thing from regulation. A small detail, to be sure, but details mattered, and this one represented everything Hux hated about Ren. He was the exception to everything. Outside the rules. Disordered. While Ren and his mongrel Knights gallivanted across the galaxy in search of the Jedi and their assorted kin of conjurers and soothesayers-- wasting the First Order’s time and resources-- Hux remained on Coruscant, keeping order and administrating. Their rebirth as an Empire had been achieved according to his design, not that overgrown man-child with a laser sword! When Hux finally took his rightful place as Supreme Leader, the first thing he’d do was make Ren cut off his hair. Or simply remove his head with the hair still attached. Boot heels clicking against the polished floor alerted him that he was no longer alone. “Chancellor? The Cabal requests a word with the Supreme Council," came the voice of his second in military command, General Enric Pryde. Hux’s face crumpled in distaste. Still, he followed the general down the hall to the War Room. "I trust the mission to Mustafar went smoothly, General Pryde?" asked Hux with a hint of sarcasm in his voice. Pryde's lip curled. The older man had arrogant blue eyes and a high hairline that seemed immune to perspiration. "Yes, Chancellor. Leader Ren had opted to take the last leg of the journey to Exegol alone, however." Hux scoffed. “He’s gone mad,” the Chancellor said, the contempt in his voice obvious even to his own ears. “Flames of rebellion burn across the galaxy, and Ren chases a ghost.”

I absolutely loved this beautiful Fanart of the Star Wars Reyux ship of the characters of Armitage Hux and Rey Skywalker together especially because in this fanart they both look very, really very beautiful together in addition to the fact that I love the uniform they put on Armitage Hux also because I like to think that if Rey Skywalker had been able to enter and infiltrate the First Order as a "deserter" of the Resistance then it would have happened that during her mission she would have fallen very much in love with Armitage Hux and that he also made it of Rey Skywalker and then it happened that later they both discovered that Armitage Hux was also a Sensitive Force just like Kylo Ren (Ben Solo) and Rey Skywalker then it happened that even after Armitage Hux discovered the truth about the mission of his beloved Rey Skywalker despite that Armitage Hux would still have decided to go with her instead of staying in The First Order with the others
Tumblr media
By the way, this beautiful fanart of theirs is not mine and the credits are not for me but I warn you that right here I am going to leave you the link of the true creator of this beautiful masterpiece on DeviantArt

We Always Love the Things We Cannot Have - Part 3/3
Armitage Hux/Reader, on AO3, check my masterlist for more (including the previous parts).
Armitage Hux, General of the First Order, Destroyer of Worlds, regretted few things in life… but this? He regretted this very much. He had not meant to fall for his strange savior, a woman who claimed to be nobody, who disappeared with just as much ease as she appeared. They were bound to meet again… after all, the galaxy works in mysterious ways.
Warnings: it's like two inches to the left of smut. 1530 words.
A/N: I dropped off the face of Tumblr for three years but this has also been in a google docs for three years so I present: the long awaited, maybe much anticipated part three. i'msosorry.
As was their recurring habit, General Hux encountered his scarred savior for a third time when he was attending an admittedly very frustrating fundraising party in a Canto Bight casino. He was aware that the Resistance might show up, but he hadn’t expected to be cornered by her in a casino elevator following a successful business deal. He’d gotten in alone, assuring his troopers that he would be fine alone – which, at this point, he should know is not really true. He’d gone down two floors, and then the elevator had stopped with a beep and in stepped her. Her, in a shimmering red dress, her eyes like bright orbs, framed in perfect eyeshadow, her silvery scar on full display, her hair twisted in an ornate updo. Who knew the Resistance had money for such a look?
“Hello, Armitage.”
He murmured her name in greeting as she stepped into the elevator car. “What brought you here?”
She stood next to him, now. “The General wanted me to make friends with my mother again, so that’s what I did. And my mother wanted me here.”
He nods, recalling her story from the first time they met. It was not Resistance business at all, then, not really.
“What about you?”
“First Order fundraising business.”
“Ah. Sounds like fun.”
“It’s not.”
She giggled. “Do you want to have fun?”
He looked over at her, at the mischievous glint in her eyes. “I’m not entirely sure.”
She smiled, reaching forward and stopping the elevator car, fiddling with the buttons on the screen and sending the car rocketing back upwards, towards the floor she came from.
“They’ll notice I’m gone.”
She shrugged. “I’m sure you can come up with a clever fib, Armitage.”
He flushed, and watched as the car slowly approached her floor, coming to a stop with a ding. She grabbed his hand and pulled him out of the car with her and down the hall to the door of her suite. She pressed her hand to the panel on the side of the door and it slid open with a mute, satisfying whoosh. She pulled him in, the door closing behind them. They stood in the foyer of the suite now, and she spun to face him.
“Well? What do you think?”
“About what?”
A conniving glint passed through her eyes. “About fun, Armitage.”
Hux shrugged, noncommittal and stiff. He had a feeling he knew what she meant, but he couldn’t help but want to make her spell it out for him.
She huffed, stepping towards him, her hands going to thread her fingers through the hair on the nape of his neck. Her perfume swirled around him, wrapping him in her aura once again. Slowly, he moved his hands to rest on her hips. He pulled her into him and she fell into his chest with a surprised gasp.
“Armitage!” she breathed, teasing.
He smiled, looking down at her. “You’re the one that started it, darling.”
“Darling?”
“Would you prefer a different pet name?”
She grinned. “No, not at all.” She pushed herself forward, her lips meeting his. He could faintly taste her red lipstick as their lips parted and their tongues met. After a moment, she pulled away, breathless, and extricated herself from his grip. She stepped away and beckoned that he follow her down the hall that broke away straight from the foyer, and he did. It was only but a moment before she snagged his hand in hers and dragged him into what he presumed was her bedroom – and then she wrapped him up in her arms and their lips were connected yet again. One of her hands separated from him, reaching for her own hair and pulling out the ornate pins that held it in place. She reached to one of his hands and brought it to her hair, tossing the pins haphazardly on the dresser a bit away from where they stood. Hux curled his fingers into her locks, pushing himself closer to her.
It occurred to him that there were many things about this that were inherently wrong – namely: he was an officer of the First Order, she of the Resistance. But, as she pulled him with her towards the bed, he couldn’t really find it in himself to care about the little things like that. Slowly, his fingers wandered to the clasps of her dress, and he undid them, one at a time, feeling the fine fabric slide through his hands and down her body like water. In likewise form, her fingers wandered to the buttons of his dress uniform, undoing them with oddly practiced grace.
Hardly but a moment later, he found himself on his back, on the bed, with her straddling his lower abdomen, a shining smile on her face as she leaned forward to kiss him again, and again, and again.
They seemed, as cliche as it sounded, to fit together like puzzle pieces. Hux was mesmerized as he watched her rise and fall above him, head thrown back in ecstasy. He held her hips, tighter and tighter, as if to hold this moment in time forever. Her little gasps of pleasure were music to his ears, a sound he would cherish forever; the warmth of her around him a sensation unlike any other. The sheets wrapped around them in a warm embrace, cocooning them in a moment unto their own, far away from the trials of the galaxy. In what felt like no time at all to Hux (but was, in fact, surely longer), they were separating, laying beside each other, breathing heavily. With his heart thundering away in his chest (whether from exertion, or love, or both), he pulled her closer to his body and held her for a moment, dreading the approaching instant that they would separate, again, for who knows how long.
After a while, she pulled herself free of his grasp, and sat up in the bed. “I’m sure they will be missing you by now, Armitage.” She looked sad even as she said it, so Hux bit back his snarky response and nodded reluctantly – already beginning his evolution back into a stiff military man.
She watched him with sparkling eyes as he redressed, as he stood in front of the mirror and fixed his hair, as he straightened his cuffs and pulled the wrinkles from his uniform. At some point, she got up from the bed, wandering over to him in nothing but the sheet – held loosely, at that – and quietly slid one of her ornate hair pins into the interior pocket of his uniform jacket, gently kissing his cheek as she did so.
“I’m sure I’ll see you again soon, Armitage.”
He nodded, turning to her and pressing a kiss to her hairline. “Likewise, darling.”
And with that, he was walking out of the bedroom and down the hall, out of the suite and to the elevator, out to the casino, to the First Order fundraiser, back to the stuffy Senators and businessmen – and away from what he’d decided was the most beautiful thing in the whole galaxy.
<>
He did not see her again soon. In fact, he did not see her again for a year, and for that entire span of time, he found himself desperately wishing he’d found a way to keep in touch with her – but today, he came to the startling realization that she had somehow found a way to keep in touch with him.
Today, he received an encrypted message from a far corner of the galaxy, with the sender merely listed as “Darling.” He knew who it was, of course, he remembered everything. It was a message of five lines, five sentences that had managed to turn his entire world upside down.
The first informed him that she had left the Resistance shortly after their last meeting.
The second informed him of why.
The third informed him of the name of her reason why: Amarante.
The fourth informed him that mother and daughter were in a place no military, no enemy of his would ever find them.
The fifth was three small, meaningful words. I love you.
And so, when Kylo Ren found General Hux later that day, he was precisely where her message had left him – standing in front of a glass viewport on the Finalizer, staring into deep space, wishing he knew which stars they could both see.
“General.”
“Commander.”
“You look… surprised. I had not thought such a thing was… possible, for a man like you.”
Hux could feel the fingers of the Force rifling through his mind, finding what was wrong in only an instant.
“Ah.”
Hux merely grunted in return.
“Well, at least they are safe.”
Hux wanted to smack the Commander, make him understand that there was so much more to this than safety, but he didn’t.
“When the First Order succeeds, I’m sure she will find you again, General.”
For the first time ever, Armitage Hux found himself genuinely afraid of losing – the war, her, Amarante – all of it.
Armitage Hux, General of the First Order, Destroyer of Worlds, regretted few things in life… but this? He regretted this very much.
Another A/N: I like to think this is what made him spy for the Resistance in the end. Some sort of misguided prayer for redemption, hope to see her, I dunno. In a perfect world, he lived happily ever after with his Darling and Amarante. But, well. We know how this story ends… if anyone is interested I could definitely write an AU epilogue, though. I have many thoughts (including, but not limited to, Poe x Darling, platonic or romantic). In my head a lot of this happens beginning before TFA, and pushing a bit into it but not far. Come TLJ and TROS, I’m feeling Darling and Amarante have been estranged from the galaxy for at least a few years, and Amarante is no longer a toddling baby.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anne V’Torr grew up along side the young Jedi Knight Ben Solo. At a young age she would often do tasks for her mother. In a hurry she ran into the young Prince, knocking the times from her small arms onto the floor. Ben Solo chuckled and told her everything is okay and helped her with gathering her things and helping her back to her home.
Ben would often spend time with young Anne, finding excuses to use her Force to do little tricks to make her smile. Years passed and Ben comforted her in the loss of her parents when they were out working as Resistance Fighters. She would spend most of her remaining days quiet and with Ben. It wasn’t until the day he left for Jedi training that she felt like she lost everything.
It wasn’t until years later when she joined The Resistance to get revenge for her parents. There she met a young pilot by the name of Poe Dameron who encountered a similar fate of losing his parents. They bonded together as pilots and the burning fire that raged within them to get the revenge they craved so badly. Every night a man in dark robes plagued her dreams. Something was familiar about him. After a few years of being with Poe they decided to stay friends, allies in the Resistance. Work became their main priority after all.
Years after joinign the Resistance a bit after her 23rd birthday she encountered the very man who plagued her thoughts and dreams at night. Before she could call for backup the man placed his hand up and forced her into slumber, carryign her limp body onto his ship.
When she woke she struggled against her restraints, panic taking over as she noticed her surrounds were of not Resistance but First Order. The sound of the door wooshing open made her freeze in place as the masked man stepped foot into the dark room.
“I finally found you.” He spoke sending chills up her spine.
“Who are you and what do you want from me?” She snipped.
“A friend.” He answered softly, stepping closer to Anne.
“I am no friend of The First Order. You’re a monster!”
“That may be true but there is no denying that you easily let me into that head of yours, Anne”
The man before her moved his hands up to his helmet, a wooshing sound as the front plate moved upward before he removed it, revealing who he was to her.
“Ben?” Tears filled her eyes at the man she thought she would never see again.
“Not anymore. Ben Solo is dead. I am Kylo Ren and I am going to show you how to embrace your powers so you dont have to hide them anymore. Let me show you that path.” A smirk appeared on the dark haired prince’s face as she nodded. “Good... From this day forward you shall be known as Rayvin. My apprentice.”
Part Twelve
Thalia, the young Twi'lek woman who served as Rose’s secretary, popped her head around the open office door.
“Sorry to bother, but the General is calling again.”
Rose looked up from her datapad, catching the woman’s grin.
“You don’t sound very sorry,” Rose muttered, unable to hide the flush in her cheeks as she set the tablet down. The report from Finn and Poe could wait. Ever since they’d finalized the normalized trade agreement, the Grand Marshal had become more and more comfortable ringing her up out of the blue. Sometimes he had business to discuss, trifling matters that any number of underlings could sort out themselves, but more often than not his holocalls were casual in nature. Half the time, Rose wondered if he was simply bored and had no one else to talk to.
“What’s he like in person?” Thalia pressed as Rose reached for her holocom.
She gave the Twi’lek a look. “He’s a dangerous military mastermind. A killer, /and/ a criminal,” she said matter-of-factly. Even if he was fine to look at...
Thalia shrugged a shoulder. “He’s had the Order share a lot of their new farm tech. Been a big help on my brother’s farm. So, can’t be all bad.”
Fantastic, Rose thought sourly. Already winning hearts and minds. Hux was turning out to be quite a capable politician.
“Yeah, he’s a true altruist,” she drolled. “Now can I get some privacy maybe?”
Rose rolled her eyes at the suggestive waggle of Thalia’s eyebrows as the pneumatic door swished closed. Rose depressed the answer button on her coms. There, Hux’s face came into focus. A pleased, catlike smile spread across his lips. Rose tried to tamp down the pleased little flip-flop in the pit of her stomach but utterly failed. Dangerous military mastermind, she reminded herself. Killer, criminal, and *really good* at pushing all her buttons in ways she couldn't help but enjoy, deep down.
“Ah, Commander,” he purred. “How good it is to see you.”
“Armitage,” she quipped in greeting, trying to sound professional when in reality she’d put down all her work once again to take his call. “How can I help you?”
“I simply wanted to inform you that my personal shuttle will be passing through Syris space tomorrow evening. We will be resupplying overnight before continuing on our journey”
“You don’t need to let me know every time you fly through my sector,” she reminded him, feeling a bit hot in her normally very comfortable office.
“Ah, perhaps not.” Was she imagining it, or did he seem a bit nervous just then? "However," he continued, “I am not merely calling to inform you. I was hoping you might join me. For drinks. A brief reunion of sorts. I’ve just come from the Senate, as you know. I’m sure we'll find important matters of state to discuss.”
Rose swallowed. What was he proposing? Not some kind of candlelight dinner, surely. Say ‘no’, the rational part of her brain warned immediately. You can’t just go galavanting off to have drinks with General Hux, Grand Marshal of the First Order; killer, criminal, and dangerous military mastermind. Even if he does have a massive crush on you.
Then again… she’d been approving reports and missives and signing legislation and wrangling politics for /weeks/ now without so much as an afternoon off.
A drink sounded so, so tempting…
“You better have brought that expensive, Core World... whiskey with you,” she said before she could stop herself. Hux’s sly expression turned smug.
“Of course. I'll see you tomorrow then, Miss Tico."
"Uh-huh, bye." Rose rushed to cut the comms call before her heart could leap out of her chest.
Stars, what was she doing?
Who should befriend the Emperor?
This is for a quest in my sims game, but everyone can vote.
The time is five years after the battle of Exegol. The Emperor was disembodied and weakened, but cannot return into the Force because of all his darkness.
The following candidates are available:
Rose Tico - Because she leads the post-war Resistance as a political alternative to the New Republic and is very keen on redemption and reconciliation.
Armitage Hux - If I go this route, I'll make true on the crack-idea of Brendol being Palpatine's son (due to both their red hair). The whole damn story so far focused on redeeming Hux, so him doing this would be counter-productive, but maybe dramatic.
General Agnon - The npc from Galaxy's Edge currently serves as Palpatine's right hand man, so it would be a natural plot progression. but also the boring choice.
Captain Phasma - A little spicier than Agnon, because she is currently serving Finn in the reformed First Order. She'd effectively give up on redemption and become a mole.
Mark Ren - The new leader of the Knights of Ren (who have degraded to a neighborhood thrill gang). The Knights aren't keen on serving anybody, though.
Rey Skywalker - Yay, family time! Rey and Ben currently have twin children, infant Jacen and Jaina. Palpatine might be interested in one of them as his new vessel.
Whoever does this, of course faces (temporary) corruption.
No such thing as luck @huxloween
"There is no such thing as luck Armitage! There is not! Either you are capable of something or you are not! They were! They stole a ship under your nose and you did nothing! And now you are talking that it was luck!? You are useless! A pffasking never-ending disappointment. There is no some magical force around that decide who will win there is only... "
Hux observed with satisfaction how Pryde gasped for air and fall down on the ground desperately trying to breath. Every member of the Supreme council found another place to look at. Kylo didn't move from his chair. There was certain smugness at his face and for once Hux could share it. He turned around to face Kylo.
"Unfortunate choice of words."
Kylo smiled.
"Indeed." Pryde went almost blue now, tears running from his eyes "However." Allegiant General caught his breath and touched his neck "You did nothing. That is true."
"Indeed. I did nothing. Care to hear my explanation? "
"Yes."
"I put a tracker in Dameron. A microchip. We can find him anywhere. In a few hours we will have a knowledge where is their precious base. And we will crush them. For good." He moved past Pryde and stood next to Kylo. "Did i do well? Supreme Leader?" He asked.
Ren laughed looking at him.
"Yes. Very well, General. Oh. Apologies. I forgot to reveal what is a purpose of today's meeting. I wanted to present to you new Grand Marshall of the First Order. Armitage Hux. The official ceremony will take place in a few days but you should start addressing him accordingly. Congratulations."
"Thank you, love" everyone froze again and Kylo chucked. "What?"
"He thinks that you are lucky bastard" Hux laughed and kissed Kylo shortly. Ren made dissatisfied sound when Hux moved away from him and kneeled down next to Pryde.
"Oh Enric. Just as you have said. There is no such thing as luck."
Hi I love your fics so much you can tell me I'm a fan of yours. I can't even count how many times I read screaming colour it's so good I can't stop it
Can you rec me angst fic like that ❤️
I really appreciate your effort 💕
Thank you so much for your kind words, darling! I'm so glad that you love that fic so much!! It's the highest of compliments that someone goes back and re-reads your fic!
Here are some more angsty fics for you to enjoy:
- Flicker in the Void by MargaretKire Hux watched in silence as the light swept over his body. The power stunned him, as did the bright jet of flame as it licked its color into his eyes. This was not the calm brightness of last night in the presence of Kylo Ren. This was a different sort of light altogether, massive and deadly. It overwhelmed him. For a moment Hux felt an aching regret deep within himself, the sob of someone he used to be, bubbling up from the cold.
- lover of the devil by selenedaydreams “I worry about you.”
His fingers tighten around the blanket until his knuckles turn bone white. “That’s not your job.”
“Was it my job to find you almost dead with snow clinging to your wounds?”
- Hunger of the Pine by Darthhux After the destruction of the Starkiller base, Kylo Ren retreats to the planet Felucia to recover and finish his training with Supreme Leader Snoke. But with his shocking new curiosity for General Hux growing rapidly, he finds himself dangerously distracted. Determined to fulfill his destiny, Ren enlists the help of the famed Knights of Ren, a dangerous league of force users with a thirst for blood. Although, memories previously thought forgotten begin to resurface, causing Kylo to rethink everything he once thought to be true.
- A cup of tea for the general by Koprix & SeiG Hux is sick. It all starts with Kylo Ren coming to bother him and ending up trying to make a cup of tea for the general. And it goes straight to hell from there.
-Lost to the Night by Kittens After being visited by Anakin's ghost and shown a vision of the future, Kylo realizes that the only way he can save Hux's life is to destroy the First Order. Hux might hate him for it, but Kylo would rather have him alive and angry than dead. At least, that's what he thinks. What he's not prepared for is the way Hux takes his revenge.
- Dawn Is Coming, Open Your Eyes by loserchildhotpants General Hux makes several mistakes; his first, existing on the same plane of reality as Kylo Ren. His second; saving Kylo Ren from certain death. His third; striking a deal with the beauty-marked, raven-haired devil himself.
- Regretful Message by Sweets_Thief Hiding from the Resistance should be easy when they already believe they've killed you. But when you're General Armitage Hux and you can't seem to recall becoming Emperor to the entire Galaxy, it becomes a little more difficult.
- Before I Wake by Anorlost During a mission gone wrong Kylo Ren and General Hux are captured by bounty hunters and sold to a vengeful Hutt. Forging an uneasy alliance with his General, Kylo figures it's best he works with Hux if he wants to escape... and to keep Hux from killing him should the opportunity present itself.
This one is a Medieval/Fantasy AU but it's brilliant:
- A Song of Crows by Ficlet-Machine (Wordsmith) Warchief Hux has just buried his trusted Crow, and, if the Gods still favour him, a new one will find their way to his lands. Hux may be young, but he is a good leader for his people. He is ready for the commitment, the responsibility, the changes that come with a new child of the Gods at his command. The clan needs it, needs it spiritual leader if they are ever to claim ownership of all the lands from here to the Core Kingdoms. Raised a warrior, he is more than ready to paint the world red in honor of his gods. He may, however, not be entirely ready for what he will feel the first time he meets the haunted and tormented eyes of the young Crow called Kylo Ren.
(fanfic announcement) COMING SOON...
Tumblr media
It’s 35 ABY. The First Order is on the cusp of galactic domination, and only the ragtag fragments of the Resistance remain in their way. With victory so close he can almost taste it, Supreme Leader Kylo Ren is confident the Order will soon become the next true Empire.
Just one problem: there’s a spy in their ranks, and they aren’t working alone. It’s up to you, the F.O.’s chief corporate investigator, to sniff out the traitors before it’s too late. The clock is ticking, and Leader Ren is an impatient man.
But be warned. Nothing about this case is what it seems.
I absolutely loved this beautiful Fanart of the Star Wars Reyux ship of the characters of Armitage Hux and Rey Skywalker together especially because I love that in the Armitage Hux and Rey Skywalker they have the same clothes of Star Wars The Rise Of Skywalker but what I especially liked was the fact that in the Armitage Hux and Rey Skywalker they are staring into each other's eyes while Armitage Hux gently takes Rey Skywalker's chin…I honestly like to imagine that if Rey Skywalker managed to infiltrate The First Order but then it happened that Armitage Hux discovered it in it. I sincerely like to imagine that if Rey Skywalker thought that he was going to betray her to keep all the credit then that suddenly instead of doing that Armitage Hux will bow to kiss her then suddenly it happened that he and Rey Skywalker will begin to kiss without thinking about it forgetting and will forget for that very moment who they were themselves, their status and on which side it was on which both were of the war all because both had realized at that very moment that both had fallen deeply in love with each other
Tumblr media
By the way, this beautiful fanart of theirs is not mine and the credits are not for me but I warn you that right here I am going to leave you the link of the true creator of this beautiful masterpiece on DeviantArt
Note
can we perhaps get a lil fic where the reader used to be a first order medic who crushed on Hux and used to treat Hux’s injuries when he was thrown around, but has now defected to the resistance. Hux survives TROS with injuries from, well, everything that happened, and is rescued by the resistance and taken to the reader (now the resistance medic) to be cared for. Cue them remembering eachother, and perhaps lots of touch starved hux who isn’t used to being looked after, and the two finally admit their feelings for eachother?? Sorry if this is so long and confusing, you can change or shorten any bits you don’t like or understand 😅💕
Hello friend! Thanks for the request. I’m sorry it took me a thousand years to write it; I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I hope you like it!!
Requests are open ✨
Armitage Hux x Resistance Medic! Reader (GN)
Warnings: Language, an injury, angst and some medical care! (and non-canon compliance if anyone cares about that)
It’s the middle of the night cycle when Poe’s voice crackles through the speaker on your comm link, calling for you. Lurching from your doze, you search for it with both hands, brushing through the piles of records and empty caff cups before you spot the little cylinder.
“I’m here,” you hold the comm close to your mouth, using your other hand to gather up needed supplies, shoving them in your medkit haphazardly. Poe never commed you before a landing—not unless things were bad. You push the panic away, steeling yourself for the worst case scenario. It wouldn’t be the first time you had held a friend’s life in your hands, but it never got easier; you just got stronger. You could be stronger now. “What do you need?”
“Don’t worry, it’s nothing too bad this time,” he clarifies, and you let out a shaky breath, offering your thanks to the universe, “we picked up a, uh, new recruit. He’s pretty banged up, having some trouble walking. I know you can get him feeling better; can you meet us at the landing pad?”
“Yeah, I’ll be there,” you shove the comm in your pocket, brushing a hand over your hair. There’s a soft hint of disquiet resting on your shoulders, a crawling over your skin. Poe wasn’t usually this cryptic. Something big must have happened.
You decide to leave your medkit—since the mystery patient’s injuries don’t sound too serious — walking swiftly through the sleeping base. Your footsteps echo quietly against the stone walls until the sound is swallowed by the night melody of Ajan Kloss. The warm humidity kisses your cheeks when you step out into the open, a gentle breeze pushing it away before it can linger.
The landing pad is dormant, rows and rows of sleeping x-wings keeping you company as you watch for any sign of the Falcon, and soon enough you spot it, tracing its path through the night sky.
You spy Poe's boots at the mouth of the hatch as soon as it opens—Rey must have been piloting, which meant Finn would be in the cockpit with her. Strange. Poe doesn’t usually give up control of the pilot’s seat so easily. A shiver travels up your spine despite the warm night air.
"Hey, sweetheart, can you give us a hand?" he calls out to you, and you're about to tear into him for being so fucking cryptic, stomping up the loading dock. That's when you notice the shiny pair of boots near Poe's, blacker than the night around you.
You can't move anymore, frozen mid-step half-way up the ramp, heartbeat pounding like a warning siren as your eyes trace up the boots, the battered, black uniform and you don’t need to see his face to know that you're not dreaming this time. It’s him.
You keep your eyes on Poe—only on Poe—and your distress must show in your features because the look he gives you in return is full of concern.
"Everything alright, sweetheart?"
You glare at him. "What the hell is this?"
It has to be a joke. Poe is trying to be funny, calling him a recruit instead of a prisoner—but the general isn't handcuffed. He has an arm slung over Poe's shoulder, leaning heavily against the pilot. There’s a tear in his pant leg, white skin stained red with dripping blood, the wound sore and angry. Out of the corner of your eye, you notice the purpling bruises along his cheeks. It’s sad how familiar he seems when he’s broken, more recognizable to you now than he ever was in any holovid.
“See, Hugs, I told you,” Poe clears his throat, voice light with humor but he watches you carefully, a warning in his eyes. You can see enough of the general to know he’s not looking at you, his gaze fixed on some point in the distance, his jaw set.
You cross your arms over your chest, letting your expression settle into a scowl. “Told him what?”
“That you hadn’t forgotten him.”
Damn him. He had asked about you? Your heart softens in spite of yourself, and you turn automatically to Hux, the last shreds of your anger falling from your chest. He still won’t meet your eyes, shoulders slumped, his breathing a little labored and you’re sure it’s not just from the pain.
How many times had you been with him, just like this? Hidden together in forgotten corridors or tucked away in his quarters, the threat of his father looming over you while bandaging wounds and feeling for breaks and ignoring the way his chest heaved underneath your fingers. There was no word for that kind of despair, seeing someone you loved so quietly and so desperately wrecked so completely. It snakes under your skin again, finding it’s old favorite cracks left unhealed; if you’re not careful, it will swallow you whole.
There’s only one thing to do in a situation like this: fix what you can.
You shift your weight from foot to foot before heaving a sigh, “fine, let’s go.”
“Yes! You’re the best; I owe you one, sweetheart, really—” he’s already moving out of the general’s grip, waiting for you to take his place and you look at him in alarm, stepping back.
“Wait,” your adrenaline spikes, and you have to force yourself to take a breath, “you’re not coming with us?“
He shakes his head, “Rey, Finn and I have some, uh, unfinished business. We only stopped by to drop him off.”
Well shit—you take a few steadying breaths, hoping your anxiety doesn’t show too plainly on your face. You hadn’t thought you’d be alone with him so soon. You don’t want to think about why that makes a difference to you.
“Oh, okay.” You nod, force an unconvincing smile to save face. Poe wouldn’t leave if it wasn’t important. He furrows his brow—not yet convinced.
“You’re gonna be alright?”
“Yeah . . . yeah. I’ll—we’ll—be fine.” Your smile tightens at the corners but still doesn’t reach your eyes, and he squeezes your shoulder reassuringly before walking past you to the cock pit.
And now you’re left alone.
“Let’s go,” you slide into place under his arm where he’s propped himself up against the wall, gripping him tightly around his waist, fingers holding him steady at the ribs.
He flinches, pulling away slightly, and you loosen your grip.
“Did I hurt you?”
He shakes his head, eyes examining his reflection in his boots, and you place your hand with a little more care, hoping he can’t feel the way your heartbeat echoes through your body.
It’s been too long since you’ve last touched him; it still makes your heart race.
The trip back to the medbay is slow and arduous. It’s not just the gash in his leg that’s impairing his movement—his ankle is very clearly broken, based on the way he winces whenever it makes even the slightest contact with the ground.
He’s certainly not heavy, by any means, but supporting his weight gets more difficult with each step, and you’d rather not see him sustain any more injuries if your grip on him doesn’t hold.
“We can rest here for a moment.” You stop near a pile of rocks by the entrance to the base, lowering him down into a sitting position before finally taking the chance to catch your breath.
It's a dead night, a still one. Any breeze you'd felt earlier had faded long ago, and the air sits heavy on your skin and heavier in your lungs.
The general doesn't seem to mind, taking long deep breaths. If it weren't for his furrowed brow, you might believe he was asleep.
“How did you know I’d be here,” you whisper, and when he looks at you, there's hurt in his eyes.
“The Order always keeps track of their defectors—especially when they run away to join the Resistance.” His tone is bitter and biting, and it hurts you more than you like.
“I didn’t run away to join the Resistance," you respond, trying to tamp down a sneer, angry at yourself. For letting him get to you so easily, for caring so much about what he thinks.
For missing him every day since the last.
Still, it was true, what you said. When you left, you only wanted to get away from the Order—it didn’t matter where.
The Resistance was the only place you were welcomed.
You had wanted it to feel like home, and parts of it did—eating late dinners with Poe in his quarters, watching over your patients, celebrating with the rest of them after every success, the same belief that they had for the cause beginning to burn in your chest.
But something was missing, in every one of those moments. And now that he's here, you wonder if the space you'd left empty for him is too large to be filled.
"Did you—" he shifts, groans, and your veins flood with anticipation, hanging on to some foolish idea of what he might say next, "did you ever . . . think of me?"
He looks at you with half-lidded eyes, surprisingly earnest; the pain must have gone to his head.
"We should get you to the medbay," you move again, no longer comfortable with staying still, "I'll go find you something to lean on while you walk, I'll be right back—"
His fingers wrap firmly around your wrist, pulling you back with surprising determination.
"I thought of you," he says, and you're looking in his eyes, so dark they're almost black in the low light, "every cycle since the last, and every cycle before that."
Your breathing grows shallow as he fits his hand against your waist, without pulling you closer or pushing you away.
"If you want me to leave, after . . . when it's all over, I'll do it. But I—"
He jumps when you press your lips to his, shaking like he's scared, but he leans into you as best he can.
"Neither of us are leaving again," you demand, and you think you might feel the ghost of a smile against your jaw, feel the slight grip of his fingers at your waist, "not if I can help it."
