Look, this is all very unnecessary but I just really liked Natalie Erika James' direction (lots of real personality in those early shots and an old-timey vibe from then on) and Julia Garner is really good too. Hopefully that Madonna biopic starring her will get made and she'll get another chance to shine onscreen soon.

The only downside: that male "lead" has zero charisma, though. What a lifeless plank.

And I just wish they hadn't felt the need to do that in the end, you know, with the Farrow/Cassavetes "lookalikes" but oh well, can't stop telling people what this is, I guess.

2025 Media: 3. Happiness Charge Precure! (2014) - 6/10★ Thoughts under the cutoff as per usual lmao <3

This was difficult to rate tbh. It took me a long time to get through this season and I didn't exactly feel very excited to watch it HOWEVER I didn't dislike it either. I had fun, just maybe not as much fun as some other seasons. It felt like a love letter to the franchise which I appreciated but it also felt a little messy and wobbly? What I mean by that is, I guess, the start felt a little lost to me, it found it's way eventually but still had some issues. The combat for quite a while was unenjoyable to watch imo. Precure usually follows a pattern with it's combat and I like that they tried something new here but it was so busy and didn't feel good. Everyone had so many attacks from the get go. The form changes with the dancing CGI. I don't know it just felt messy to me, maybe because it was introduced too fast? (Though I want to point out I REALLY enjoyed Cure Honey's fighting style!) The animation quality varied vastly in parts too, normally I feel I don't notice stuff like that and there might be a valid reason for it but it was definitely something that jumped out to me. Things I DID enjoy a lot were the switch up in the formula. There being other cures in the world. The way we were introduced to the happiness charge girls was fun. I feel like the characters were balanced. Personally I LOVED Hime, I know a lot of people write her off as an Erika clone but they're two very different characters if you actually watch the season past first impressions. I think it was sweet that they had little nods to old seasons here and there. The villains were decent enough. I also really liked Seiji so shoutout to him! I think all in all I just didn't really feel invested enough. The opening song SLAPPED though. Fave eps: 4, 7, 20-22, 24-27, 31, 43-44 Fave character: Cure Princess

GARDEVOIR Illustrated by: Akira Egawa

The Champion's Chamber in Pokemon X and Y is gorgeously bright and still managed to be a spectacle even after the impressive chambers the other Elite Four members were found in. I think the surprising beauty was helped even more by you first walking into the Radiant Chamber and finding no one present, just an empty throne. Hop on the stained glass lift though and you move up into a truly radiant chamber, the curtains swaying as the light nearly swallows the details of the architecture!

I think this card made a good choice in not being quite THAT bright, a more subdued pink tint not only more appropriate for the Psychic/Fairy Pokemon's type associations, but it allows for the champion Diantha and her Gardevoir to both have more coloration to them. Diantha's nearly all white outfit looks much better with the light playing across it, and while Gardevoir has some green and red to break up her figure, her own dress-like parts also get some nicer shading to play off the light! Even the curtains are sparkling in a way that looks a bit like rose petals!

I feel like it would be a little hard to mess up making this image beautiful with such a good mix of subjects. The ornate architecture, the fashionable Diantha, the elegant Gardevoir, but I like that this is a more private moment too. It's not battle time, the champion has to do something while waiting for challengers, right? Gardevoir's close bond to its trainer is emphasized fairly often, so Diantha taking the time to sit with hers shows a great deal of care, but even more, I think it's nice what they've chosen to do together. Diantha wants Gardevoir to appreciate the light moving through the Key Stone in her Gardevoir themed necklace. I hadn't put together the little golden spikes are meant to mimic Gardevoir's "ear" spikes until this image!

Diantha already must appreciate the dazzling look of light through glass considering the way she's designed her chamber, so this feels like a fairly natural passion for her to share with her partner Pokemon. However, I have been talking a lot about Diantha rather than the Pokemon this card is actually about, huh? This is actually a part of a series of rare full art cards across multiple sets called Trainer Gallery which depict the Pokemon with an associated trainer, Diantha an obvious choice for Gardevoir, but I think she steals some of the focus from her ace here. It's not unexpected for the trainer, especially a champion, to command the scene more, although many other of the cards in this theme either have the Pokemon as the focus of the action, on equal footing, or dwarf the trainer to remind you whose card it is. It's a nice card no doubt, a demure Gardevoir still feels appropriate for the Pokemon itself, but I feel like the art would be better served on a card with a name similar to Erika's Kindness or Giovanni's Charisma. Diantha's Radiance, maybe?

Still, a very lovely card no matter what you call it!

2024 Media: 60. HeartCatch PreCure! (2010) - 9.5/10★ First of all... I am sorry for the WALL of text incoming asdfghj, I'll put it below a spoiler line

When I first saw the designs for this season I hated the artstyle and thought I wouldn't enjoy the season because of that but as soon as I started episode 1 that worry went away because the artstyle was so full of character and life. I think the designs are pretty basic but not bad (I'm not the biggest fan of Cure Sunshine's hair though) but the bright colours did help a lot. The fairy designs too were cute, though I HATED them pooping out the heart seeds every episode (what a sentence.) Potpourri was SOOOO cute though, one of my fave fairys so far!! I didn't care too much about the villains, they weren't boring and had their own distinct personalities but they didn't stand out that much to me either. The villains' whole turning the world into a desert thing didn't really make sense to me and I think it was one of the weaker villain plots so far imo. But omg the characters, their development was done so well!! Tsubomi: I LOVED LOVED LOVED that our lead cure wasn't the genki stereotype, it was SO refreshing. Not only that but I loved that she became more confident in herself and willing to go outside her comfort zone whilst keeping her core personality traits and not becoming an entirely different character. It was nice to see essentially the celebration and acceptance of a more timid and introverted character! Erika: She was by far my fave of the show, whilst she barely had any development imo and the bit she had was very lackluster, I find her character to be super interesting and I love that she says exactly what she means and I think she was the perfect character to give the comic relief trope to. Itsuki: Imo I really liked Itsuki's development and to me it at least felt as if they handled the gender nuance fairly well. I like that it wasn't "I want to accept my femininity but I'm made to be masculine bc I fight" and instead Itsuki accepted all of her hobbies. Yuri: Super interesting character, I do wish she would've had more time to shine and more lines but her character arc was darker than I thought would be included in precure honestly and I LOVED that. I think her character was written incredibly well and everything she said and did held significance. This season kinda reminded me of shugo chara in little ways which I'm a big fan of. I think the heart flower was interesting and I liked how they always included the meanings of the flowers too. Overall a pretty solid season. I feel it had a bit of a stagnance in the middle for me but the last few episodes went SO hard. Fave eps: 8, 14, 16, 18, 19, 25, 26, 28, 33, 37, 38, 41, 44-49. Fave character: Erika
