the chatter of passing people from beneath your open window nearly consumes each syllable of his compliment, tone much too soft to be deciphered through the hustle and bustle of the city. a noise partnered with the all too familiar serenade of cicadas and the steady stop and go of traffic. the life all around you so loud that yushi, in all his gentle and tender words, is almost forgotten. washed away with the sudden strike of high tide, only to be resurrected by the lull in the surf and your significantly fine tuned hearing.

"yeah?" a question poised in the undertaking of an action as you pull your shirt from over your head, collar getting stuck on the angle of your chin. a problem solved as quickly as it had arisen with one harsh tug until the article of clothing is tossed absentmindedly onto the bed behind you.

he swallows softly, eyelashes fawning against his cheeks as his head tilts upon his shoulder. catlike eyes follow the curves of your naked spine, tracing over every muscle, every beauty mark, every imperfection and division. his answer is one made without thought, an immediate response that even he finds to be said much too instantaneously. "yeah,"

"thank you," you unbutton your jeans, shaking them off the bone of your hips with a few light steps and a yank at your beltloops. balancing on one foot as you slide them down your legs, kicking them off with a rightward snap of your ankle.

"have i ever told you that?"

you crouch down to one of your wardrobe drawers, sliding it open in a single, fluid motion. tongue caught in between your teeth as you sift through the clothing, fingertips slipping over the folded fabric once, twice, then three times over until you've successfully found the bottoms you've been searching for. "that i'm pretty?"

he nods, leaning against the doorframe as he watches you stand to your full height. a motion undertaken with little thought, one that he realizes you did not catch with the continued silence on your part. so instead, he offers you a hum of affirmation. one which stands out from the noise of your backdrop, a sound much too sweet too blend into anything else.

you pause, thinking for a moment before tugging on your pants. brows furrowed and nose scrunched as you button them, slender fingers dropping to the zipper. despite the thorough mundanity of the action, your red-haired counterpart gazes upon you as if you were dancing a pirouette la seconde. though, he supposes that he would watch paint dry if you were the one who had put it there. "i'm not sure,"

"well i do," he says, lips parted and tongue caught gently between them, expression tensed as if it were a matter of life or death, "think you're pretty, i mean,"

you laugh, eyes flicking upwards to meet his gaze. eyelashes upon eyebrows, the upwards curve of your lips obscured by the angle of your chin. your inflection is genuine, earnest. "so are you,"

despite the warmth which spreads throughout his chest at the register of your reply, your words are anything but. they're cool. refreshing and short-lived, like a breeze in the unrelenting gaze of the summer sun. one he wished would lay upon his skin for even a second longer, yearning for the chill which lays upon his spine and the sigh of relief which escapes his tongue.

your tone is nonchalant, an underlying hint of amusement evident in the ending intonation of your vowels. "really? did my failing grade in economics charm you?"

he shrugs, attempting to keep his tone every bit as casual as yours (it doesn't work, in fact, he sounds too much like a schoolboy with a crush for his replies to be considered anything but lovesick). "a bit,"

"glad it did something," you laugh, finally picking up your head to meet his gaze. a movement which encourages the sudden flight of a million and one butterflies, battering and banging against the walls of his stomach and sending his cheeks burning a shade of red most akin to his hair. "but now?"

yushi clears his throat, a last ditch effort for any sliver of composure (one which reaps no rewards). "what about now?"

arching your brow, you shoot him a incredulous look. as if what you were referring too was all but obvious (it was, but he's trying so desperately hard to wear an aloof facade despite the feeling of it unraveling with each and every glance in your direction). your words are spoken with a hint of haughtiness, a puffed up pride which sits upon your head like a golden crown. as if you had just gotten him to admit something you already knew and won the cat-and-mouse game which the two of you have been rattling between for the last year and a half. something that for all intents and purposes, you had. a trend which he was all but reluctant to continue. an unwillingness that lasts for just a fraction of a second. he huffs, rolling his eyes and crossing his arms in a show of faux annoyance. "i'm not giving you the satisfaction of using present tense,"

"but you would use it?"

"yeah," like the initial confession, the answer comes easy. slipping down from upon the tip of his tongue as smooth as honey. pooling in the roar of your heartbeat and resting upon the crimson blush of his cheeks. yushi's words are spoken with such an ease, such a natural lilt as if they are the only things in the world which he was ever meant to attest. The VAs answered three questions where Obari would judge who got the correct answer. The first question was Bravern’s 18th song on his karaoke list. Ryota Suzuki (VA of Ao Isami) got the right one with “Intention.” Oh, I realised, after turning on the auto-translate that it was Kenichi Suzumura’s first single, “Intention.”

They had fun with the appearance of Bravern cosplayer onstage that they were talking about their trembling groins and jiggly crotches. 😈

I have to add that when they showed the ED, both MCs talked about their exposed nipples. Moreover, Obari also mentioned that the black part on Bravern’s neck is the speaker, the one behind is where it shows its emblem. Not sure, if he was pulling the VAs’ legs and the public’s.

They also presented new Bravern figures including a Nendroid.

PS: Even the Japan Self-Defense Forces installed their PR booth at the festival. 😼

the term being translated into demon king is almost always 魔王/maou, but I've heard of people translating it to dark lord, overlord, and at least one example of it being translated as archenemy (this was in the context of it being paired with 勇者/yuusha, which is the accompanying hero archetype, so it's a pretty contextual translation)

The word yuuki [勇気] means courage, bravery and daring. Beware that it can also mean ghost or spirit [幽鬼] or simply something organic [有機]. It's an interesting word that can give a good meaning to a Japanese name. Unfortunately, it is also not usually written with the ideograms of courage [勇気].

愛喜] is a common way of writing yuuki which means love and rejoice. [優希] which means tenderness, kindness and hope and pray. In addition to [優輝] which means tenderness and brightness. 

Backstory: Yuuki grow up in an abusive household. Her mother died after giving broth to her and her father hated her for that. Her bother, Yuki, always be the one who protect her as those two were the only child in the Suzuki household. In my AU, the Suzuki is the second royal family after Ferid's. However, in one certain day, Yuuki went towards Yuki room, holding a novel. She know that Yuki like to read novel so she brought some from the school library. With a smile on her face, she knock on Yuki room before opening it slowly.

"Yuki-nii, I brought you a bo-" Her smile faded once she saw that Yuki was nowhere to be seen. His room were messy, book and paper scatter around the floor and his bed sheets were torn apart. She panicked, dropping the book. Her father, Leo, who saw this begin to smirk. She slowly looked at her father, asking him only for her to get such an unexpected answer. "Oh? Your big brother? How sad. I sold him. He sure having the interest of older woman. I got many money because of that."

She didn't expect her father, her own flesh and blood, to sold her own brother just like that for money. Leo smirk and slapped her hand on her cheeks before turning around and walked away. Yuuki started to cry silently, muttering "Big brother" over and over again as she hold the book close. After a month, Yuuki personality changed. She's no longer cheerful like before. She's now very cold, quiet and distant towards other. Even though her timid and shy self is still there.

At 12th of December, when she was 8, her father told her to get dressed. She did as she was told, changing her clothes. She wore simple plain blue shirt with black skirt and a pair of long white sock and black mary jane shoes. Her father drove her into his car, driving to an empty, cold, dark streets. He grab her by the arms and drag her off the car. He then let go of her. With a disgusted and cold look on his face, he spoke in stern voice. "I don't need you anymore."

With those last words, he turn around and walked away. Leaving Yuuki all alone in the dark and cold streets. And since then, she had a hard time trying to survive up until the manager of the Hyakuya Orphanage begin to notice her. They asked Yuuki if she wanted to stay with them so that she can have a place to live in. Yuuki hesitated at first, not fully trust them but nodded later. The manager took her to the orphanage, and this is when she begin to meet Mika before meeting Yuu a weeks later.

So, my oc also escaped with Yuu after Mika plan failed. Her cursed gear is the same like Yuichiro. A swords/katana. Her demon name is Adeline. Adeline have long blonde hair, red eyes, fangs, pointy ear and seraphic wings. She wore white dress and a pair of white leather boots.

Fact:

-Yuuki is still searching for her brother.

- Yuuki wear mask to hide her face. She is not good at expression her feelings so it might be very awkward since she had a very stoic and blank expression on her face most of the time without the mask on.

-She's inlove with Yuu and Mika, unaware that they also feel the same.

-Yuuki emotion died a long time ago from the abuse of her father.

-And now that she has her emotion returning slowly one by one, she's still lacking of it. And she still can't describe what she was feelings most of the time after a years of not having any emotions and feelings.

-Yuuki love cute things. Her room were filled with teddy bear and such things as plushie, doodles, and much more.

-Her favourite color is black. She didn't like bright color.

-The only color she allow in her room is: Black, white, cherry pink, blue, aqua green and purple.

-Yuuki find Shinoa personality amusing and interesting. Especially that smug grin.

-Yuuki think that Mitsuba deserve the right to kick Yuu since he is very stubborn and act out of order. Or before Shinoa command something.

-Yuuki feel a twinge of jealousy when she see how close Shinoa is with Yuu.

according to hananokotoba, baby's breath flowers is "everlasting love, purity of heart, innocence", while sunflowers mean "adoration, false riches" in JP language of flowers; a check on wikipedia's hanakotoba page suggests that sunflowers mean "respect, passionate love, radiance" (nothing for baby's breath, unfortunately).

googling the chinese name of baby's breath (满天星) suggests that baby's breath represents "i love you, more than i love myself, and it's a love that transcends love itself" (我爱你，胜过爱爱情，更胜过爱自己), while sunflowers (向日葵) represent "faith, radiance, disdain, loyalty, adoration [...] [it could also mean] silent love [or] the courage to pursue the happiness that you want" (向日葵的花语是信念、光辉、高傲、忠诚、爱慕，向日葵的寓意是沉默的爱，向日葵代表着勇敢地去追求自己想要的幸福。) (source: huayu)

Vibes-Based Compression

LLMs often weigh in at 6 GB of information at the minimum, with more powerful models weighing in at a lot more. My personal favorite, Nous Capybara 34b, comes out to about 24 GB, while models based on Llama-2 70b might easily be 36 GB or more.

On a previous occasion, I was asking a model about Tanya Degurechaff, the main character from Youjo Senki, an anime series, and some of the answers were wrong.

User: Please translate the term "Rokka no Yuusha". llama-2 13b: Sure! "Rokka no Yuusha" (六羣の勇者) is a Japanese term that can be translated to "The Six Braves" or "The Six Heroes." It's a name used in the Youjo Senki series to refer to [...]

Llama-2 13b (~9GB) was 'thinking' of the character Togame, from the series Katanagatari, who has a number of similarities to Tanya Degurechaff. I had never heard of Katanagatari before in my life.

Recently, I asked Nous Capybara 34b a classic question:

hey, i love your blog!! i read your translation of kubo's episode 9 commentary and it made me curious about something: during the scene where yuuri asks viktor to please take care of him until retires, both the subs and the dub on crunchyroll translate the line as "be my coach until i retire" instead. do you have any idea why this might be? i'm not fluent in japanese but even i'm pretty sure yuuri isn't saying anything about being his coach in the japanese dialogue, and kubo's commentary makes it very clear that she meant to have yuuri ask viktor to take care of him. it just seems like such a strange mistake to make, and especially to have it that way on both the dub and the japanese subbed version.

That dialogue goes like this:

Victor: 勇利、コーチとして 俺—　これから何ができるか考えてたんだ。Yuuri, koochi toshite ore... Kore kara nani ga dekiru ka kangaetetanda. Yuuri, I've been thinking... about what I can do [for you] from now on, as a coach.

Yuuri: 僕も考えてた。引退まで 僕のこと—　お願いします！ Boku mo kangaeteta. Intai made boku no koto... Onegaishimasu. I've been thinking too. Until I retire... Please take care of me.

Victor: フッ… プロポーズみたいだね。Fuu... Puropoozu mitai da ne. Hum, [it sounds] just like a marriage proposal, doesn't it.

So you're right, Yuuri doesn't say "as a coach", so if we talk about accurate translations, it was unnecessary to add that.

Looking at the whole dialogue, you can sort of see, where that came from - Victor starts by "as a coach", so the translator probably decided to stay in that context.

In the context of the whole scene though, what Victor says sounds like Yuuri is proposing to him, is this "~made boku no koto, onegaishimasu", "Please, take good care of me until~", and also how serious and determined Yuuri is when he says that line. How this line really sounded like to Victor, only Sayo and Mitsurou know, but it's pretty clear that Yuuri didn't mean to propose and it's more "I want to enjoy my time with you as long as I can" sort of message.

With that sub/dub translation however, Victor's "marriage proposal" line doesn't make sense, or it turns it into more "by marriage, I mean we are always going to be coach and student" like dialogue. In Jp, on the other hand, the simple "Please, take good care of me", "Is it a marriage proposal?" exchange without specifying what they really mean, makes the whole dialogue really "representative" of their relationship - as a viewer you simply don't know for sure when they mean their professional relationship, when they mean they private relationship and when they mean both at the same time. It's exactly the same with "Let's end this" line in ep. 12. We just eavesdrop on their private conversations, so we naturally don't know what's going on to a certain degree 😂

The gist of that "as a coach" translation is most likely that the translator understood Yuuri's "I've been thinking too" as "I've been thinking about the same thing, what you can do for me as my coach in the future, too. Please, take care of me until I retire!". It's certainly a valid interpretation of Yuuri's line.

I personally understood the "I've been thinking too" as "I've been thinking too [about us from now on]", because that is what we see Yuuri is thinking about during his FS, during kiss&cry with Yakov, and before Yuri gives him pirozhki, that is: whether he is going to retire and when etc. - e.g., he says in his monologue, still in Moscow, that he is going to retire after GPF, no matter what. He then clearly wanted to talk with Victor about it ("There is so much I want to tell Victor. What I should start with?"), but in the end, the only answer he managed to give to him is "take care of me until I retire", and not "I'm going to retire after GPF", so for me this line was always about Yuuri focusing on "being with Victor as long as he can" (in his opinion), instead of the (in his opinion) inevitable moment when he will need to let him go.
