Despite what is shown in across all the series’, all duel monsters can talk. All subspecies have their own language – the Spellcaster archetype have the language their spells are written in, the dragons have the draconic of their ancestors, Kuribohs, Kuribons and the Kuri clans have their trills and calls with their own interspecies dialects – but there is one unifying language across the entirety of the Spirit World for all monsters to share.

There are dialects of it across the monsters – one cannot expect an Acorno to speak the same as a Blue-Eyes or the Crimson Dragon – but the language for the largest part is the same. Beyond the spirit language, monsters can speak English and Japanese – as well as any other languages their duelists might know. Conversely, there has only been one instance of a human learning to speak as a spirit: the Duel Monster Yubel. A human born long before the Duel Spirits were bound to cards, Yubel became a hybrid of human and Duel Monster, believed to be a Duel Monster entirely once the spirits were bound to the cards, in order to serve as the guardian of Yuki Judai’s ancestor and guide him in growing to control the Gentle Darkness. They are the sole example of a human becoming a Duel Spirit, though no spirit will speak of their heritage as a falsely engineered monster.

they are agender and, if given a human form, can present themselves in male and female forms. their commonly preferred pronouns are “they/theirs”, closely followed by “she/hers”.

if in a parenting role, they prefer to be given the maternal role. They are Bird Mum, even if they are physically presenting as male.

they speak with a scottish brogue, as seen here.

pearson will always be regarded as their first master, even though he wasn’t a signer.

they are a signer dragon, but NOT one of the ORIGINAL FIVE. they were the tertiary sixth.

the reason they did not appear in the battle against the earthbound gods 5000 years ago is because they were not one of the five chosen. they were busy protecting and escorting other duel spirits, notably the younger ones, to safety.

the mane of their dragon form is a mix of feathers and hair, with the predominant part being feathers.

in a human form, they always have feathers braided into their hair.

in a human form, they carry a staff with a raven’s head top, as seen HERE. although they do not necessarily need to, they like to use it as a conduit through which to focus their Noble Stream.

they adore children, and will do anything for them.

they refer to every child they adopt, no matter the age and even crow, as their nestlings

Power Tool Dragon, Life Stream Dragon, and Blackfeather Dragon are the only ones of their kind. As they have appeared throughout history, with Power Tool being the most recent emergence, humanity has given them several names, but all have been only one dragon.

Power Tool Dragon, as the youngest dragon, has only been known as either Power Tool Dragon or, in certain instances, Machine Dragon - Power Tool. Life Stream Dragon, as they have been dead for five thousand years, has only been known by the one name, with their name only uncovered when Rua awoke them and became the true sixth Signer.

Blackfeather Dragon, being as they are only a tertiary Signer Dragon alongside the original five and therefore being lesser known, have only been known by two names: Blackfeather Dragon and Darkwing Dragon - Blackfeather. All three dragons respond equally to each name they have been given, but hold true to their original, proper, names.

The Signer Dragons all came into being at roughly the same time, with some time between the oldest and the youngest. Stardust Dragon, Ancient Fairy Dragon, and Life Stream Dragon were created at the same time, closely followed by Red Demon’s Dragon, then Blackfeather Dragon, then Black Rose Dragon.

However, with Life Stream’s apparent death and the birth of Power Tool Dragon, Power Tool regards himself as the youngest signer dragon, even though he himself is not proven to be a Signer Dragon until he is reawakened as Life Stream Dragon. This only adds to Life Stream’s identity crisis, with two conflicting sets of memories where he is both the oldest and the youngest of the dragons adding to his confusion over which name and identity he should pursue.

All of the Signer Dragons are intensely powerful creatures. Duel Spirits can sense their incredible power and spiritual pressure and know well to be afraid if one of the dragons stand against them in combat. Humans, too, can sense the power of the spirits and are filled with a sense of massive awe as well as a sense of their own small significance in the universe. Although Stardust has never experienced it with any spirits other than the Crimson Dragon and the Blue-Eyes White Dragon, it has been told it is a similar sensation to that a child feels when they look up at the stars and the universe.

Although Red Demon’s Dragon is physically the strongest, all of the dragons are incredibly strong and powerful. They are not enemies to the universe and do not use their power for anything other than protecting it, but they cannot help the aura of raw power and something to be feared they project. The only exception to this, including the tertiary Signer Dragon Blackfeather Dragon, whose pressure and effect is slightly lesser compared to the original five dragons, is Power Tool Dragon. His Signer Dragon power and spiritual pressure is felt only as Life Stream Dragon, absent entirely in the form of Power Tool prior to Life Stream’s resurrection. A source of sorrow for Power Tool, as this is incontestable proof he is not a Signer Dragon despite his fervent beliefs Rua is the fifth Signer, he hides the fact he does not have the same effect on others from Rua in the hopes it will not let Rua down.
