#my art#the x files#dana scully#fox mulder#alex krycek#i was talking about this on twitter yesterday but#i have a LOTTTTTT a lot of thought about this part of season two#mainly because i think that while scully probably realized she was never going to find peace ever again after emily#i do believe that the last time mulder ever thought everything would be okay was right before scully’s abduction#which is also kind of why i think mulder was closer to killing himself in ascension than in gethsemane#at the end of season four mulder is kind of resigned to his and scully’s lives unravelling#he’s more suspicious and slower to trust then he ever was#while ascension was the first time he was like. Oh okay. It’s over for us forever and ever#and the fact that he was still open and still kind of okay before that just kind of makes it worse#that he was just betrayed and left hanging and lost everyone he thought he had in one fell swoop#ascension jades the fuck out of him and you can see it. like through the whole series there are threads of it#his tendency to rely on skinner regresses for a while. he becomes even less functional when scully is gone.#he has far less patience for his informants and he refuses to rely on anyone the way he tried to on krycek#like it’s just. such an obvious shift in his character that you can tell his mindset about his and scully’s life has changed#and that’s a huge part of the show’s tragedy i think. there is no peace. there is no rest. it’s never going to be okay

#one of the most compelling aspects of black sails as an adaptation is that it absolutely plucks out these threads and weaves them#in an even clearer pattern#there is no merit in a civilisation that metes out humiliation to the ones it deems dishonourable and the connection between the two#and basic human kindness#same as i would argue there is no personal value to people that engage in the same type of behaviour on the interpersonal level#(as seen through dufresne)#disfigurement and disability as spectacle and spectacle as punishment and the system of values that upholds both#which leads to the weaponisation vulnerability in the face of brutality#(this among many other things extends to jack's character arc and his relationship with masculinity as represented by blackbeard)#but also in specific relation to disability#the imagery billy foists over silver's name without permission as part of his propaganda#has direct roots to the impact of the original material#to the one legged demon jim hawkins conjures up in his mind#and to the belief systems inherent to the success of chattel slavery#there is no ideological difference between a belief in racial purity and ableism#the two are always hand in hand#anyway look at the violence inherent in the system etc#black sails#treasure island

One of the funniest parts to me of threadverse Carrie Kelley initially being from whatever the equivalent of 1610 is that the DKR Dick Grayson is the Joker. She gets picked up by Tim in the main universe and is just giving Dick a vicious side-eye the whole time. Dick cannot figure out why she doesn't like him while Carrie's pulling Tim off to the side and being like "keep an eye on him in case he goes evil"
It gets even funnier when you factor in her meeting Gwen/Terry/someone from the universe Bruce gets lost in during Everybody's Gonna Hear Me Out because they also had regular Nightwing back in the day.
Basically I just think the idea of Carrie realizing that actually, her terrible universe was the outlier here is really really funny

Honestly, even without Art’s attempts at manipulation and sabotage, I don’t think Patrick and Tashi’s relationship would’ve survived anyway. Before they started dating, Patrick was criticizing her career plans and Tashi was never interested in entertaining his massive ego at her expense. Passion and chemistry are important to relationships, but if that’s the only foundation, it’s gonna crumble quickly.
The only difference between Patrick/Tashi vs Art/Tashi is that the relationship would’ve ending with a bang instead of a whimper.
#challengers#challengers spoilers#patrick and tashi need art between them#his willingness to submit even when done so with manipulative intentions does let tashi and patrick to indulge in their desire for control#the movie makes a point of saying that patrick is constantly shooting himself in the foot because he’s unwilling to humble himself#art let patrick get away with a LOT but tashi does and would not#but even tho patrick does get to the point where he can humble himself it’s still necessary for patrick to go off script and stir shit up#the way the film ends makes it abundantly clear that all three of them need each other to function#and that each person brings something different to the trio that each person needs#so i don’t buy that patrick and tashi could’ve worked things out on their own#tashi so clearly likes art’s dependence and loyalty to her#while also getting a lot from patrick’s passion and pushback#would also like to say that i personally love when art’s a mean little bitch#not only cause it’s fun but because it really seems born out of a fear of being left alone/behind#spreading my ‘art’s a greedy pillow princess that actually needs TWO tops to handle him’ agenda#and wrt the injury…sorry no one’s actually at fault for that#not only could no one could ever engineer something like that#it could’ve happened at any time because that’s life#in the film it’s meant to underscore the danger of disharmony between all three of them#and snap the tenuous thread holding all three of them together#and placing blame kind of misses the overall point the film is going for wrt the relationship between all three#hey is it just me or has this film broken my brain

I mean I’m obsessed with crash landing on you because it’s like if a hallmark movie was good and that is fascinating to my brain and healing to my heart.
#I didn’t think such a thing was possible#I’ve been living very much in a world of extremes lately re: Art#like. on the one hand all the great works I teach just taking OVER my brain#and my knowledge of them deepening at a very rapid pace#(sometimes in a too terrifying way so I feel like I’m hurtling down a hill. it’s actually really hard sometimes and I think part of how)#(my anxiety is manifesting itself. like. I just. I don’t feel like I’ve taken a deep breath in a year)#(I’ve just been in. motion.)#and then on the other hand finding new ways to find shows like Bridgerton dead#and Bridgerton helps with that because it is emotionally hollow. because it is fundamentally embarrassing#because Anthony snarling at Kate about how his honor is hanging by a thread isn’t sexy at all#so my mind has kind of just been living in those two extremes and there hasn’t been a lot of room for gentleness or nuance#but cloy is very healing 😭 and it just doesn’t#push the buttons in my brain that immediately need to analyze and#to some extent—destroy! tear apart! with fierce and savage energy.#it just lets my brain and heart exist.#and also there is something so sweet and pure and real about so much of it#I think it’s cause it’s true love 😭 and it’s that simple.#(I’ve also outgrown/moved on from some of the more mediocre things I used to love. Like I just needed something new) but yeah.#it has been very hard in my brain lately even though it’s also been very good#like. teaching is just a lot these days. because it takes sooooooo much effort and work to get the kids going intellectually speaking#and one of the only ways I know how to reach them. or at least the lane I’m really driving in right now#(I know there are more ways)#is simply speaking to them above their heads. with passion and energy and a certain degree of expertise#and it’s WORKING#because it wakes them up and makes them want to engage#but I am also moving so fast and so vulnerably for all of my certainty. that it’s just hard.#I need to relax but I can’t. I feel like the devil is behind me every second#this is dramatic. and as Lewis said in surprised by joy it’s only one layer of what’s happening#but it is what happening#a lot of things are unfolding/growing and also the anxiety is terrible

#rat rambles#I feel like Ive mentioned them before but Ive been rotaing them in my head so hard today#jacob dexter besties arc <3333 and also piper ig :/#they're all friends I just have favorite children (even tho Im pretty sure piper is the one whos been around the longest)#theres nothing super deep going on with them they're just bros who like to hang out drink and have game nights sometimes#but I likes them. they're silly :3#I need to dexter post more often yes they basically do nothing but be their friends supply guy but I love her sm#I used to be painfully neutral on him until I started lor at which point she grew on me hard and its only been getting worse#shes a mess who is squeamish and easily grossed out (rip bozo) and also an alcoholic (rip bozo) and also loves gambling (rip bozo)#hes surprisingly not doing as bad as youd think theyd be considering the everything tho#mostly because theyre good with tech and also are very good at breaking rules without getting too punished#but also because of their friends ig. eyeroll.#jacob also has a lot of bullshit going on as he is one of the poor souls who for a time caught yuri's attention but hes managing#and by managing I do mean on the verge of a breakdown at all times and holding on by a thread because he does not need to have juliet's#wrath added to his ever growing list of problems and traumatic events#again having positive relationships does also help but hes easily the least stable of the crew#to be clear theyre not like. super close? they hang out and play games and shit but they generally treat their hang outs as escapism so#they rarely talk much abt themselves on a personal level with eachother#which is fine they still value eachother a lot and genuinely enjoy eachothers company#although they are a bit recklessly fond of eachother considering their situation Id say. thankfully they dont get punished for it tho.#if one of them Had died and not instantly got brought back I do think the other two would fully lose it#the closest this ever got to happening in game was me not realizing dexter (level 5 employee btw) had gotten eaten by the wolf#and almost moving to the next day before realizing she had died#and do note this was like at the point in the game where I was just about done preparing to start the last 5 days this was Late late game#but autism be damned my boy can fuck up one of the easiest waws#(not a boy tbc)#honestly its kind of a miracle I never let piper die I Really didnt care abt him before the other two boosted him by proxy#well tbf he was for a good while one of like. two ppl I had in training. and they also are in little red gear. so they Did have value. ig.#piper comes from category of nugget I had in my early game that I liked to call bodyguards#basically I had one or two guys per department who actually did work and then another guy or two to be extra fire power

Why is Visual Basic not compatible with Visual Basic for Applications!!! And why did none of the documentation mention this!!!!
#I've spent like two hours slamming my head into an incredibly basic wall.#ha ha ha basic. Ugh.#Literally I was copying lines of code out of examples and pasting them in and getting compiler errors.#so like I knew I was missing Something fundamental#But for fucks sake could the VBA walkthrough I started with not have put in some kind of fucking disclaimer???#I started trying to look things up and got into the VB documentation pages and then. Problems forever time.#And of course none of the stack exchange threads I found were helpful because no one on stack exchange thinks you could possibly#make such a mistake as to not know what language you're coding in!!#And the stupidest thing is that now that I've fruitlessly read a bunch of VB documentation VBA seems really clunky#fffffff#Anyway back to the spreadsheet mines

"IV."
Ryouga greets IV with a curt, unimpressed voice, and lips curled into an irritated glower. In other words - everything is just the same as one would expect... or at least, it should be.
But in reality - things couldn't be further from that truth. Because Ryouga knows something that IV doesn't... that no human knows, in fact. And that's Ryouga's true identity as the Barian Emperor Nasch; the enemy to Yuma and Astral and the Astral world along with them.
He hasn't told anyone. Soon, the war will begin, and Ryouga knows by then it'll be too late to play pretend any longer. But for now... he's made the decision to act human for a while more - all in the name of collecting information and forming a plan that'll defeat Yuma for good. Of course, that means he'll have to pretend around IV, too - that nothing's changed, that they're still on the same side together against the Barians...
Does it hurt, to take the place of a traitor? To turn his back on the people he cares about so much? ...More than anything. But he can't let it stop him - so he'll drown out that pain with another, worse pain, and keep moving forwards. Luckily... he doesn't have to act all too differently around IV compared to the others - after all, they never really got along.
"You're looking as obnoxious as always. What do you need from me, anyway? Want me to kick your ass again?"

IT'S A LONG-ABANDONED WIP WITH A STEEL CHAIR!!
#so two days ago i was looking back at some of my stories i like and thinking that they were all garbage#well then yesterday (actually at 3 am shh don't tell) i was looking at some things i liked less and found that they were surprisingly good#(my imagination kicked in during the interim and supplied some really nice mental movies that made the stories come alive)#and guys that arateph princess and the pea retelling has me going feral#both povs have fantastic conflicts#the fairy tale gets to tie in perfectly with the politics and philosophy issues in this world#and now i really really want to get to the core of this story and try to figure out how to finish it#because there's a ton of thematic and internal things happening#but how to realistically tie it in with the need for action is logistically difficult#i've got at least three threads here and the 'assassination attempt' thing is the most concrete possibility but also the hardest to fit in#i may just have to open a new doc and rubber-duck it to see if something comes together#incidentally the fact that this kind of thing regularly happens with my backlog of seasonally-specific ideas is why i rarely finish anythin#ah well what do you do?#adventures in writing
