WuKong sneaked into the Weijing Cave and found that the Rat Spirit had a plaque for Li Jing, the king of the pagoda. She regarded Jing as her own father and offered a spiritual tablet. Legends of the humanoids
Reptilian humanoids (12)
Toyotama-hime – Wani (Dragon) Goddess disguised as a human
Wani was a dragon or sea monster in Japanese mythology. Wani is discribed as "crocodile", or sometimes "shark".
Toyotamahime (See) is a goddess in Japanese mythology. Daughter of the sea god Watatsumi, she was said to reside in a dragon palace. Their palace was as if made from fish scales and supposedly lies undersea. Her true form was “Yahiro no Owani (meaning giant crocodile, approx. 24 m long)”, and she was the wife of Hoori (See2), is known as the epitome of human–animal marriage tales. She was the mother of Ugayafukiaezu-no-Mikoto (See3), father of Emperor Jinmu (the first Emperor: See4), and sister of Tamayori-hime (See5), the Emperor's mother.
Toyotamahime makes a fateful meeting with the demigod prince, Yamasachi, also known as Hoori ("Fire-Subside"). They married and lived happily in the dragon palace. 3 years later, she and her husband Hoori, who missed home, went ashore to give birth.
She then warned her husband, "All people from other parts of the world give birth in the form of their native country when giving birth. So I will give birth to a child in my true form”, and requested Hoori not watch how she gives birth. Hoori, however, was pazzled and peered in on his wife as she was giving birth, and saw her crawling around as a giant crocodile of about 24 metres (79 ft) long. He then startled in shock and retreated. Toyatama-hime learnt that being witnessed her true form by her husband, "I have always intended to pass through the path of the sea," she said, "but I am ashamed that you should have observed my true form.” She blocked the sea path, leaving the child behind and left.

Art by Not A Starchild
PRINCESS OF RED SCALES AND HER GENDER FLUIDITY
(Tiếng Việt ở dưới)
Mediums weren’t the only ones who transcended gender binary; gods were as well. Deities within the Mother Goddess Worship could transform into men or women at will. In modern terminology, they were genderfluid. Since the holies could be either men or women, a person with both masculine and feminine characteristics would be considered more suitable for the mediumship ritual.
The Third Mother Goddess of Watery Palace (also known as Princess of Red Scales) was one of the four Holy Mothers of the Four Palaces, who governed the rivers, lakes, and all bodies of water.
Excerpt from the Mother of Water prayer: “I wholeheartedly offer to the Grotto Court Water Lady of the First Dragon Palace and ask for her imperial grace, with her magnificent virtue, her numerous transformations, through my limited mortal eyes, whether she be man or woman, as she observes while dwelling under the living realm.”
Excerpt from the Mother of Water prayer recitation: “I sincerely give myself to Lady Immortal of the Watery Palace within the left Grotto Court, the fairy who resides under the Watery Kingdom, who doesn’t belong to the earthly realm, who has numerous transformations, either as a man or woman; to the elegantly holy, the the charmingly virtuous, the finely pure Madam of Yellow Dragon, to the dragon princess of red scales within Lake of White Jade, Her Majesty of mercy.”

an instance of daoist transgender sorcery
there's this old paper by isabelle robinet i reread like half a year ago which around the middle of p. 46 mentions an early medieval daoist text yuanshi wulao chishu yupian zhenwen tianshu jing which contains instructions for talismans which transform your gender. obviously that's pretty cool so here's my go at a translation. (i figured i might as well share it) i will admit i'm only a private student of classical chinese but the language is Relatively easy to follow and i'm reasonably confident in the majority of my translation (nonetheless i beg indulgence for any errors...). not to mention the ctext edition (this is the original with the talismans proper, this is the punctuated version that's the base for my translation) is extremely accessible . so here, i hope you enjoy maybe someone vaguely in my internet circle will get something out of this .
(something of a sequel to that citation on gender transformation as an ill omen in han times)
The talisman of yang generation of the Great Simplicity in the Nine Heavens was handed down by the Primordial Commencement to the Old Man of the Most High; its text resided in the Red Writings. After an eon, it manifested the yang of the Sun Palace.
Tumblr media
According to the old rules of the Palace of Purple Tenuity in the Mysterious Capital, it is written in vermilion on white silk, five inches square. After pure fasting of a hundred days, enter the chamber and meditate on solar essence. Encompass and swallow it. One will share the same longevity with the sun, persisting together with Heaven and Earth — meditate on numinosity and think on perfection, and one's form will be able to fly of itself. If turbid qi is visualized in the mouth, then the talisman will leave and one will die. Another name is the certificate of generating perfection; another name is the dragon-writing of the Eight Majesties. After a woman swallows this talisman, they will generate a male body.

The talisman of yin generation of the Great Mystery in the Three Heavens was handed down by the Primordial Commencement to the Most High Great Lord of the Way; its text resided in the Red Writings. After two eons, it manifested the High Office of the Moon.

According to the old rules of the Palace of Purple Tenuity in the Mysterious Capital, it is written in black on yellow silk, five inches square. After pure fasting for a hundred days, enter the chamber and meditate on lunar essence. Encompass and swallow it — one will share the same longevity with the moon. Daoists who desire liberation from the corpse should write it in black on a wooden sword, embrace it, and go to sleep; it will take on your human form and die. When practicing this proper essence, if one has other thoughts of filth or turbidity in the mouth, the talisman will leave, and the body will die. Another name for this talisman is the certificate of transforming forms; another name is the numinous writing of the Nine Yin. After men swallow this talisman, they will transform into women.
With these two talismans—the Two Qi of yin and yang and the essences of the sun and moon—even if one does not refine one's own body or discipline the will, cautiously making light of clothing and deportment, and only engages in the ceremony of the pure fast, they will be able to be boundless.

Ryuuguu / Ryuuguu-jou
In Japanese myth, Ryugu (literally “dragon palace”) is the name of the palace wherein the dragon sea god Ryuujin resides, which lies at the bottom of the ocean. It is most famous for being the setting where the myth of Urashima Taro takes place.
Urashima Taro was a fisherman who saved a turtle from some playing children, and in return he was invited to Ryugu-jo by Otohime, the princess. He spends three days with her in Ryugu-jo, before he tells her that he must go back to the surface to see his ailing mother. Otohime lets him go but gives him a box, the tamatebako, which she tells him to never open.
When Urashima comes back to the surface, he finds that instead of 3 days, 300 years have passed. In his grief and shock, he opens the box, and suddenly a puff of white smoke comes out. When it dissipates, Urashima has aged 300 years to an old man.
Besides Urashima Taro and Otohime, the god Ryuujin who resides in Ryugu-jo is one of the most beloved gods of Japanese folklore, as Japan relies much on the sea and ocean. It is believed that when the Mongolians tried to invade Japan, it was Ryuujin who summoned a storm that sank all their ships.
Just some fun stuff I think is pretty poignant with this recent episode!

STAR RAIL AU: IMBIBITOR LUNAE
700 years ago, the High Elder Imbibitor Lunae otherwise known as Yinyue/Dan Feng accidentally created a draconic monstrosity in the hopes of resurrecting his deceased companion Baiheng who had sacrificed herself to save Jingliu, himself and countless others against the forces of Shuhu, an Emanator of Abundance. With the prodding and help of Yingxing, the Forgemaster of the Luofu, the Imbibitor Lunae and his companion went to Scalegorge Waterscape to preform the ritual.
In the chaos that reigned down upon the two wildly grieving men after the ritual was completed, Yingxing was killed and then resurrected, the Ambrosial Arbor using the flesh of the Emanator to grant him immortality as well as striking him down with Mara. Imbibitor Lunae tried to fight the draconic monster by himself but found that he was unable to control it, tame it and he couldn't even render its flesh from its body without it healing.
Sensing the trouble that had befallen the Luofu, what remained of the High Cloud Quintet as well as the Cloud Knights and General Teng Xiao rallied to Scalegorge Waterscape and helped the High Elder destroy the monster he had inadvertently created though at the cost of many lives. During this fight he found that the draconic monster had taken his ability to use the Abundance's healing powers that had been passed down through each High Elder in conjunction with the Destruction's combat abilities.
Once the mess had been cleaned up, Yinyue/Dan Feng had forcibly imprisoned by the Preceptors, a council of Elders who were his advisors. They tortured him for information on what he did, on where the dragon heart was as well as what he had done to the the symbol of the Luofu's High Elder: the Transmutation Arcanum. But he remained silent. He was soon imprisoned in the Shackling Prison, only visited by guards to give him food and water and Jing Yuan.
Before he underwent the molting rebirth, he with through with the selection processes to name a new High Elder in hopes that it would leave his reincarnation alone as he had abdicated for himself and any future reincarnations of his. And he chose the newest egg that been created after the destruction of the draconic monster. This egg would eventually birth Bailu. Though that failed to extent because he was not at full power. It would leave Bailu with the power to heal and his reincarnation with the power of Destruction.
When Yinyue/Dan Feng underwent the molting rebirth the Preceptors, despite half of them hating him, all participated in putting an exuviation charm on him/on his egg. Unwilling to let the Ichor line die out, the Preceptors all agreed that once the new reincarnation was born they would immediately crown him as Imbibitor Lunae even though he would only have HALF the power of the previous High Elders.
When the new reincarnation hatched from the egg 500-600 years later, the newly-born Dan Heng was soon proclaimed as Imbibitor Lunae be all the Preceptors and that despite being Yinyue/Dan Feng's reincarnation, they would personally make sure that he never treaded the path that his previous life did. Then they spirited him away to the 月龍宮 or Moon Dragon Palace.
For the next 200 years Dan Heng was nothing more than a ceremonial figurehead for the Preceptors who kept him under lock and key. He spent his time learning everything from governance to the arts. Though he was not in the Shackling Prison, this palace was very much a glided prison only appearing for special occasions, or when the Preceptors "needed" him and he longed for true freedom.
One day, a man with golden eyes and silver hair as fluffy as the fluffiest cat's fur came barging into his quarters. He called himself Jing Yuan, the Arbiter-General of the Luofu, commander-in-chief of the Cloud Knights and that he was there to set him free. Jing Yuan gave him Cloud-Piercer, a weapon that his predecessor used and watched as the weapon recognized him as its master. Then, with weapon in hand, Jing Yuan broke Dan Heng out of his gilded prison. He managed to get Dan Heng a ship out of the Luofu.
He told him to leave, to hide himself amongst the stars and that when he was ready he could return to the Luofu and seek justice for his imprisonment. Dan Heng agreed to this plan, thanking the General whom he equaled to the bright sun, and promising to restore the rule of order within the Vidyadhara one day and to get it out of the Preceptors' greedy hands.

the day has finally come. the day for me to finally talk about my Mortal Kombat OC that i DEFINITELY didn’t make specifically to be gay for my sweet darling thunder god (or wind god, depending on what i'm vibing with. it is not consistent. sue me.)
i'm trying to write a gay little fanfic about him but i can't get my sorry ass to finish the first chapter 😫
anyway here he is! the lad himself: Ryūjin!
Tumblr media
YES i used an online character maker to design him. i came up with him at like 2am, i was NOT drawing his ass that late.
things that aren't depicted as a result:
his eyes glow just like any other god's; they're a bright yellow
he has glowing tattoos (similar to Fujin's) all along his arms. a dragon surrounded by ocean waves winds around his right arm, his left depicts jellyfish, fish, and other sea creatures within the seas
anyway uhhh. detailed-ish explanation about him under the cut if you care.
Name: Ryūjin (龍神; "Dragon God")
Height: 7'2
Age: Eternal
Occupation: God of the Sea
Tumblr media
If you didn't guess from his name, Ryūjin is directly based off of the Japanese dragon sea god of the same name. In mythology, he is mainly depicted as a dragon that lives in his undersea palace, Ryūgū-jō (竜宮城, 龍宮城; "Dragon palace castle"), however in many myths he possesed the ability to turn into a human. If you want to know more about Ryūjin from the myths, look it up. I don’t think anybody wants me infodumping about Japanese myths on my silly little MK sideblog.
Anyway, I digress. Ryūjin (or just Ryū), the OC, is Earthrealm's god of the sea. He's a little bit older than Raiden.
Much like his origin, he usually takes on the form of a massive dragon within the sea, but will take on a human-like form when the want or need arises. His human form has long, unkempt, white hair (if you couldn't tell), glowing yellow eyes, and he either wears his armor (as above) or just simple red and black robes.
He prefers to live in solitude in his Dragon Temple, controlling the oceans and mostly staying away from others. Local legends say that disasters such as tsunamis are caused when he leaves his temple in anger to swim around the seas, and the thrashing of his body causes the water to act up. He...might also be the cause of the whole Bermuda Triangle problem.
Much like the other Earthrealm gods, he has a sworn duty to protect Earthrealm when the needs arises, and will do anything to do so. However, he is generally an abrasive individual to those that work with him, and is quick to disappear into the seas when his work is done.
He has a soft spot for both Raiden and Fujin, causing them to be the only ones that see the kinder side of him. Generally, he's written to have a relationship with one or the other (usually Raiden). Regardless, he enjoys visiting both of them in the Heavens, and is always happy to see both of them (even if Fujin has a habit of getting on his nerves sometimes).
He specializes in hand-to-hand kombat, specifically jiu-jitsu, but he also possesses a sword and dagger should the need ever arise.
As a god, any standard rules that may apply to Raiden or Fujin will also apply to him.
Before you ask: No I have not thought about his role in MK1. That's a WHOLE other can of worms, methinks.

I've always wanted to draw a mermaid, as I'm fascinated by them. However, I've never been able to capture the mermaid of my imagination. This year, I suddenly felt inspired to draw an Eastern-style mermaid, reminiscent of the underwater palace of the Dragon King. This particular piece is an exploration for me. I tried out various experimental techniques, including color palettes that I'm not accustomed to. I'm aware that there are still many details that need improvement, but it feels like I've grasped a new approach to my art...I think... Next week, I’ll at number C09 in布穀, and I'm planning to print a RISO poster. However, the color reproduction on RISO might be different, so I hope I can manage to meet the deadline!

The series that has been occupying my mind lately is Sing! Great Dragon Palace (うたう!
This is a late stage iteration of the Toei Mysterious Comedy Series (東映不思議コメディーシリーズ), a programming block that is best remembered by Magical Girl fans for for La Belle Fille Masquée Poitrine (美少女仮面ポワトリン).
It ran for most of 1992, which puts it slightly over the line into the early Heisei (平成) period of Japanese period, just slightly off the core topic of this blog.
But there are two things that make it interesting to me. The first is that it's a live-action musical, which is genuinely pretty unique.
The second is the way it connects back to Japanese literary history. It's heavily patterened after the Urashima Taro (浦島太郎) story, which goes all the way back to the Nihon Shoki (日本書紀), the second oldest book of Japanese history.
I have generally considered three Japanese folktales to be the most important predecessors for Magical Girls -- the story of Amaterasu (天照大御神), The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter (竹取物語), and Urashima Taro (浦島 太郎).

How many kingdoms and realms exist in JTTW, could you give us a short explanation of these please? I understand there are like three realms according to Chinese mythology
Tumblr media
How many kingdoms and realms exist in JTTW, could you give us a short explanation of these please?
There are many kingdoms that are visited in Xiyouji on their path, but I cannot say how many were during the Tang dynasty in general, you might wanna do some personal research for that case
The dragon prince was spared from death and banished to Yingchou Stream (鷹愁澗) in Shepan Mountain (蛇盤山), in the region that belongs to the Hamil Kingdom of the western barbarians.
Zhu Bajie found in Gao village and find that a daughter kidnapped in the the territory of the Kingdom of Qoco.
Yellow Robe Demon (黃袍怪) is based in Moon Waves Cave (波月洞) on Bowl Mountain (碗子山) in the Kingdom of Baoxiang (寶象國)
The Lion-Lynx Demon (獅猁怪) is actually the Azure Lion (青毛獅子), the steed of the bodhisattva Manjusri. He drowns the king of Wuji Kingdom (烏雞國) and took his position.
The Immortal of Tiger Power (虎力大仙), Immortal of Elk Power (鹿力大仙), and Immortal of Antelope Power (羊力大仙) are three demons who disguise themselves as Taoist magicians to deceive the ruler of the Kingdom of Chechi (車遲國).
The Ruler of Women's Country (女兒國國王) is the ruler of a nation in Xiliang (西梁) in Western Liang Kingdom with an all-female population in Women's Country (女兒國).
The Wansheng Dragon King (萬聖龍王) is based in Emerald Waves Lake (碧波潭), Rocky Mountain (亂石山), Kingdom of Jisai (祭賽國). He marries his daughter, Wansheng Princess, to the Nine-Headed Beast.
Sai Tai Sui (賽太歲; literally "Equivalent to Tai Sui") is a demon king based on Qilin Mountain (麒麟山) in the Kingdom of Zhuzi (朱紫國). He is actually the Golden Haired Hou (金毛犼), the steed of Guanyin.
The White Deer Spirit (白鹿精) is actually the mount of the deity Old Man of the South Pole (南極老人). He stole his master's staff and escaped into the human world. He accepts the White-Faced Vixen Spirit (白面狐狸精), a female Fox spirit, as an adopted-daughter, disguises her as a beautiful maiden, and presents her to the ruler of the Kingdom of Biqiu (比丘國).
The Ruler of the Kingdom of Miefa (滅法國; "Miefa" literally means "destroy dharma") hates Buddhists and once made an oath to slaughter 10,000 Buddhist monks. He realizes that he has done wrong in persecuting Buddhist monks so he repents and renames his domain "Kingdom of Qinfa" (欽法國; "Qinfa" literally means "respect for dharma").
The Grand Saint of Nine Spirits (九靈元聖) is actually the Nine-Headed Lion that Taiyi Jiuku Tianzun rides on. The lion seizes the opportunity to escape. He builds his base at the Jiuqu Panhuan Cave (九曲盤桓洞) at Bamboo Links Mountain (竹節山) near the Kingdom of Yuhua (玉華國).
The Jade Rabbit Spirit (玉兔精) is actually the moon rabbit that pounds a mortar and pestle in Guanghan Palace (廣寒宮) on the Moon. The fairy Su'e (素娥) once hit her and she bore a grudge against her. Su'e was later reincarnated as a princess of a Great Kingdom of India (天竺).
Su'e hid in the Monastery of the Anathapindika Garden in the Kingdom of Sravasti.
Honorary mention: Surya Kingdom is the place where the sun sets, and that's why its popular name is 'The Edge of Heaven.' During the time of late afternoon each day, the king will send people up to the battlements to beat the drums and blow the bugles, in order to dilute and weaken the sound of the sea boiling. (mentioned by Bajie)
Honorary mention: In years past, barbaric tribes of all four quarters came to pay us tribute: to the south, the Yuetuo Kingdom, to the north, the Qoco Kingdom; to the east, the State of Western Liang; and to the west, the Benbo Kingdom. (mention by Kingdom of Jisai).
Honorary mention: The state, Flowing Sand, was my ancestral home. My father was Flowing Sand Kingdom's king. Illness plagued me at the time of youth, A victim of a baleful natal star. (mentioned by Yellow Brows Demon).
Honorary mention: The spot releasing black vapors over there is the Lion-Camel Kingdom. (only called kingdom once by Sun Wukong).
Honorary mention: Master, my home is located in the Bimbana Kingdom, some two hundred miles from here. (mentioned by Lady Earth Flow.)
Tumblr media
I understand there are like three realms according to Chinese mythology
There are three domains in the cosmos — Heaven, Earth, and the Underworld — and each domain is populated by a host of important gods and goddesses. The Heavenly Domain is ruled by the Jade Emperor, who presides over a court of important deities who are worshipped throughout China. Three Realms (三曹) – the belief that Heaven, the living and the deceased exist side by side; heaven is a place for saints or rested souls, the Underworld for the criminous deceased. Three wun seven pak (三魂七魄) explains a person's existence. The three realms is where a person exists, and the seven states are what makes a person exist.
Also suggest reading JTTW's article with just how Xioyuji uses these domains in regard to the 36 heavens and the 18 hells as well.
accompanied by my realms question, are the six realms something canon in JTTW or are the six realms something completely separate from JTTW and considered a different religion than the three realms mentioned in JTTW?
The Six Realms in Buddhist cosmology are the six worlds where sentient beings are reincarnated based on their karma, which is linked to their actions in previous lives. These paths are depicted in the Bhavacakra ("wheel of existence"). The six paths are
Hell (地獄道)
The Hungry Ghosts or pretas (餓鬼道)
The Beasts (畜生道)
Humans (人道)
The Titans or Asuras (修羅道)
Heaven, or the realm of the gods (天道).
Above these lie the four holy states: the Śrāvaka (声聞), the Pratyekabuddha (縁覚), the bodhisattva (菩薩) and finally completely enlightened Buddhahood.
Tumblr media
We know that the wheel of reincarnation is very much real in Xiyouji and that the novel has Hindu and Buddhist mythology it wouldn't be out of the question that they have this specific cosmology, even if most of the time the novel is within more Easten heaven and dealing with Taoist gods.
There is a more modern take that is seen more fantasy novels where these 6 relams but that is far more used for the sake of fantasy where they are Gods (神界), Immortals (仙界), Spirits (妖界), Demon (魔界) Mortal (人界) and Ghosts 冥界(鬼界). Again this are more used for a fantasy setting in modern terms so this is a far more modern idea.
(heaven, mortal realm and diyu), like, the Demon realm and spirit realm are a thing in JTTW?
Demons and yao do not have their own realm. Demons are rather animals, plants, or other spirits that they to escape Hell (地獄道), The Hungry Ghosts or pretas (餓鬼道), or The Beasts (畜生道) and move on the human form. Or even celestials that abandon their posts and turn into demons as well. It is because they don't have their own realm that they are considered unnatural and going against the laws of nature.

🔵 When I was younger, my life revolved around studying, playing Pump It Up, and hanging out with friends, and it was very peaceful. That timeline doesn't have the drama of Thunder Dragon Associate, it doesn't have the drama of Phoenix Palace, and it doesn't have the drama of stupid companies. There were people in my class at the time who I liked, and there were also people who liked me, but I ran away because I was afraid that it would affect my studies. When I was young, I didn't know anything, and when I got to my final year, I just thought that I had to concentrate on studying in order to graduate, which was really stupid. Now that I think about it, scores are meaningless. If I had played naughty more, I might not have had anything to regret.

Inazuma Lore: A Series Part 2/?
Part 1 was about historic setting, part 2 will be very long, about one of my favorite characters and her beautiful lore.
As we all know, Kokomi is the Head-Priestess of Sangonomiya Shrine and, I haven’t actually seen anyone saying this but, the people of Watatsumi Island are supposed descendants of the people from the Enkanomiya following Orobashi’s purpose of creating human-like serpent, so she should be descendant of Orobashi and the serpent creatures/vishaps.
“ The ancient people of Enkanomiya co-worshipped Orobashi, the coral serpent, with Ouroboros, the scaleless imaginary serpent. Its influence led to the end of the worship of the Dainichi Mikoshi and many of the corrupt practices established by the Sunchildren regime. Orobashi brought with its newfound rule drastic changes to Enkanomiya society, including changing from the ancient Watatsumi language to the Narukami-style language. Following a certain prophecy, it prepared the people of Enkanomiya to return to the surface world and had them become acclimated with Narukami and Inazuman conventions.“ [source]
Enkanomiya’s story is way more elaborated but I’ll focus exclusively on Orobashi first.
Tumblr media
He is a serpent, he gets addressed as Orobashi no Mikoto (オロバシノミコト), like Gods are usually addressed, and his name comes from the word “orochi”, which means serpent.
In Japanese Mythology different type of serpents exist, one of them is called  Yamata no Orochi (ヤマタノオロチ, also 八岐大蛇), or simply Orochi (大蛇), who’s a eight-headed and eight-tailed Japanese dragon/serpent. (besides the ancient orochi reading,  大蛇  is read daija, "big snake; large serpent").
Japanese Myths can be founded in two books, Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, the first two ancient books in Japanese language, which tell the stories of the Japanese Gods and creation of Japan.
In both versions of the Orochi myth, the Shinto storm god Susanoo, God of Thunder, is expelled from Heaven for tricking his sister Amaterasu, the sun goddess.  After the expulsion from Heaven, Susanoo encounters two "Earthly Deities" weeping because they were forced to give Orochi one of their daughters every year for seven years. When time came for Orochi to get the eight daughter, Susanoo helped them by getting Orochi drunk, intoxicated by the drinking all his heads lay down and slept and Susanoo killed him with his sword.
Tumblr media
The parallel in-game for this myth would be Raiden Shogun killing Orobashi,  just like Susanoo kills Orochi, during the Archon War, creating the Musoujin Gorge on Yashiori Island, and Serpent’s Head being Orobashi remains.
In the Myth, Susanoo makes Orochi intoxicated with a rice wine (sake) called Yashiori no Sake (八塩折之酒/八醞酒 "eight-fold refined liquor").
Tumblr media
This being said, Orobashi can be linked to another dragon/serpent God because of his purpose of creating a human-like serpent creature and dream of living above surface.
Ryūjin (龍神), which in some traditions is equivalent to Ōwatatsumi (大海神 “great sea god”), was the tutelary deity of the sea in Japanese mythology. In many versions Ryūjin had the ability to transform into a human shape. Many believed the god had knowledge on medicine and many considered him as the bringer of rain and thunder.
Ryūjin lived in his palace under the sea built out of red and white coral, pearls, crystal, and sea creatures like jellyfish, turtles, fishes are his servants.
There’s several Shrines dedicated to this particular god in Japan, the model for the  Sangonomiya Shrine (珊瑚宮 "Coral Palace") whose Kokomi is Head-Priestess, is located in Okinawa, Shuri Castle.
Tumblr media
The Ryūgū-jō (竜宮城 "Dragon palace castle") in myths, is also palace of princess Otohime (乙姫), second daughter of the Dragon King (Ryū-ō). [see folktale of Urashima Tarō for the story]
In conclusion, all of this is what brings me to believe Kokomi is a descedant in human form, of Orobashi.
