saw this comment on a youtube video and i wanna talk about it a moment.
ivor was never a villain. 💀
like i don't get what's so hard for some people to understand that. he never meant to cause the harm he did. i see some people saying he intentionally killed hundreds of people. uh no, he didn't. he literally made the storm follow the amulet because he wanted it to attack gabriel. but keep in mind that even during the scene where he spawns the wither storm he tells it to retreat multiple times. he made a potion to destroy the command block. to kill the wither storm. he studied the command block to the point where he made an enchanting book with the power of it, even to the point of having it be destroyed.
if you watch him in the later episodes, you see who he truly is come out. an excited man who just wants knowledge. he wants to travel and adventure and be a true hero.
"bUT CHriSTOphER hE LikES To stEaL aND shIT On pEOplE"
dude, okay??? have you not done something that isn't normally you when you've been deeply hurt? it is hinted extremely heavily throughout the first four episodes that the old order used to love ivor deeply. but then they started hating his fucking guts because he started calling them out for being cowards and liars to the world. so in turn, they shat on him left and right.
depending on the choices you make, you can dig yourself into ivor even deeper. he talks about how no one has ever made a decision to be on his side before, if you choose to get arrested with him in sky city. if you save him from dying in spleef, he thanks you for it begrudgingly. all of this to say that ivor hates being vulnerable and exposing his emotions. not only does he prove here that he's dealt with a lot of loneliness, but years of trauma and abuse as well.
of course he isn't going to be the same when all of that trauma is resurfaced because four people who he thought were his friends were actually pieces of shit all along. even more so if you believe in the theory that he was in a relationship with ellegaard/magnus. might as well be the piece of shit they want him to be, right? he's so angry.
and as five years pass, during season two, he has finally let that rage go. now on my blog in my canon divergency i make it so that if gabriel doesn't tell the truth he never really learns to let go of that bottled up rage, but putting that aside, he is genuinely opening up and becoming a happier person. someone who loves to help others, someone who longs to help others. someone who loves to be around people. someone who can be a true hero, a true friend. someone who wants to rekindle his old friendships, despite all the nasty shit they said to him.
happy and loving.
ivor is not a villain.
he is damaged goods.

🔹46% людей с депрессией и 57% пациентов с биполярным расстройством сообщают о жестоком обращении в детстве🔬 (Nelson J, et al., Childhood maltreatment and characteristics of adult depression: meta-analysis)🔬(Post RM, et al., More stressors prior to and during the course of bipolar illness in patients from the United States compared with the Netherlands and Germany)
🔹Жестокое обращение с детьми также связано с более длительными депрессивными эпизодами, повышенной тяжестью и высокая частота рецидивов ⚗️(Bernet CZ and Stein MB, Relationship of childhood maltreatment to the onset and course of major depression in adulthood)
🔹Кроме того, жестокое обращение в детстве было неизменно связано с плохими результатами лечения (после психотерапии👥, фармакотерапии💊 и комбинированного лечения) при депрессии, что оценивалось по отсутствию ремиссии или более длительному времени для выхода из состояния🧫(Nanni V, Uher R, and Danese A, Childhood maltreatment predicts unfavorable course of illness and treatment outcome in depression: a meta-analysis)

Beware, incoming ramble!
For the time period question I always saw MC as purely medieval, at least when you as the player pop into the world.
Either by nature or because of post apocalyptic consequences. Each explains the hordes of zombies/undead, structures, old strongholds, etc. Either created by old magic and ancient wars that created those old bastions and constructs (blazes, guardians, irongolems so forth) or simply leftovers of a greater civilisation that has vanished now.
While the world of minecraft itself is purely Medieval, humans/players bring knowledge and technology with them! We know how to mimic big skyscrapers, tele communication, modern structures and such because we have seen them before and know how things work already! Knowledge that is lacking in the other "native" inhabitants of the world.
Humans/Players (and I guess the mods they might bring with them) are the varible that determines how advanced the time setting and technology can be.
Or I suppose in case of MCSM- where humans act merely like any other inhabitant of the world- the admins. They determine what experience the server should offer, after all. They just mod the world themselves and give the tools needed if they just want to. Maybe they even go out of their way to remove possibility of modern features if they like to keep it fantasy like, or bust all doors open for people to create their own modern utopia. Fancy thinking. Much theorising.
Opinions, thoughts, counter arguments?
ANONYMOUS SENT AN ASK .
sorry if this isn't 100% because my benadryl is kicking in super hard atm but i 100% agree with you. especially since in mcsm there are actual mc youtubers put in there but they still act the same as other humans inside the universe there. their world was just a lot more modern as seen that they have modern clothes on, act a little different, and reference making things for people to watch.
it does make me wonder though. i have always thought the admins to be the gods of mcsm. they have the power to create things and to delete things. what about the other worlds? did fred, xara, and romeo all make those other worlds? did they make the old builders to see how they would fuck around with shit? romeo has obviously tried to find a new "champion" and/or people he can simulate into an admin without making them an admin to try and replace the old friends he fucked over. i mean if you think about it, they had to have right? because of all the technology that these other worlds have compared to jesse's world. but then again maybe not because the old builders did that all themselves. the mcyters in mcsm made everything themselves as well.
sometimes i wonder if the admins were the first actual people to spawn in the underground. the world below the world. like they are the humans that are playing the game yet they're absolutely forbidden to talk about it. or perhaps they were humans that were teleported into the mc world by force and they haven't had the ability to come back out. idk. just something i've thought about.
another theory i have is that romeo put the command block in the world to see how people would react to having true admin/god power. and it was all just a huge test before giving jesse the gauntlet to see if anybody would be worthy or capable of becoming friends with him / being the next new champion. obviously the order of the stone wasn't capable of destroying it, but jesse was. and that's what made him reach out to him.
i don't personally know much about the lore of base minecraft other than that there are several stories woven within a world you make yourself. like saving the end and the endermen. the piglins are a hostile mob protecting their home. villages with everyone having their own life to deal with. the illagers and their dark culture. the alchemist who was in the igloo trying to figure out how to heal zombification. though it is strange that you and your friends are the only humans left in this world.
to me it almost seems fair to assume it was some sort of amnesia thing. the character spawns in and is so fucking lost and confused but gradually figures out what to do along the way.

can i talk about how much i love this line???
"Nothing sadder than an unimportant man on the world's tiniest power trip."
like it just hits you in the face. like he fucking stabs you deep and fucking hard. i LOVE that about him. i ADORE that about him. when he gets pissed off that means that he will hit you right where it fucking hurts the most. it proves my points that he's super analytical and can read people super, super well.
it shows he's been through abuse and has seen it with his own eyes. and that makes me feel great about my backstory!!
but also it's just so RAW. paul did such a great job voicing that's bit. angry ivor is so good!!!

WHAT TAROT CARD ARE YOU ?
THE STAR .
there is something wonderful stirring in the depths of your being. something within you– something latent– is sleeping there, in the cradle of your mind. creativity comes naturally to you, just as breathing or blinking. you have the capability to extend yourself through art. but are you afraid of it? creating something– terribly afraid that it will never be as good as you hope? it will never be made unless you use your own hands.

i absolutely adore how ivor is my favorite tarot card omg?
at first i was iffy about this one even though i answered everything in character but now it makes total sense to me. i see this as who he used to be. the part of him he was hiding for so long because he was so afraid of showing his true self. so engulfed with rage and a lack of trust, he couldn't show his true emotions. he was afraid to, because how the hell can he trust the people who lied to him? now that jesse and the new order has let him be him, he can let his true self run free and he doesn't have to hold it back anymore. it's very nice.

Someone gotta tie some braids into Ivors hair, hear me out-
ANONYMOUS SENT AN ASK .
let me tell you this man would look fine in some braids. i'm not all that into hairstyling but that one style where the braids surround the sides of the head and then fall into one that goes down the middle? ivor with his hair down in that style??? scrumptious! but no -- it depends on the timeline and who's doing it! if it's in season one, ivor is very finnicky with touch. not that he's against it, it's just that he lacks trust at the moment and isn't really used to it. he wouldn't really enjoy it and would probably try to push them away. maybe even throw in a comment about them staying away from his precious locks, or something of the sort. there are very few he would let do it at this time. harper, for sure. jesse, definitely. maybe the other members of the new order depending on the situation. any child that got him swept up in their business. but otherwise he would definitely tell them to back the fuck off. in season two though, he would be all for it!! he would absolutely adore that someone wants to play with his hair! he would ask what they're making, talk about his hair routine, talk about how much he loves his hair, and all that. he is very much more open to touch. i don't think he would necessarily instigate it unless someone needed a shoulder to cry on or a hug or something of the sort, but he is very open to affection from anyone and everyone by this point. he has opened himself and his emotions and doesn't hide who he truly is anymore.

What is your headcanon to Ivors hair? Is it slick and oily, or preened and silky? Does it depend?
ANONYMOUS SENT AN ASK .
you know it's actually hilarious you ask this because i was talking to an rp partner a couple weeks ago about this. if you compare season one ivor to season two ivor, they look completely different. obviously taking away the ninja thing, he looks a lot more put together. a lot less rough and tough. let me make a comparison bulleted list for you.
extremely slick hair with a horrible case of dead ends and uneven cutting
an untrimmed beard that isn't well maintained and cared for
dark, baggy eyes
longer eyebrows
shorter eyebrows, probably trimmed
hair not so slick, up in a manbun
beard is a lot more kempt, properly trimmed, even
not so dark of bags under his eyes
i used to believe ivor was the type to care a lot about his appearance. not necessarily to the point of vanity but he would be aware that he has good looks. after all, the portrait that cassie rose made of him was perfect to his standards and he absolutely adored it. i believed that he knew his worth and wouldn't let himself get too far gone. but now that i look at the comparison, i genuinely believe ivor was under so much fucking stress from the fact that his friends betrayed him, started treating him like shit, and the remorse of what he did that he let himself go over the years. he lost his hygiene routine, stopped doing self care, and everything like that. he still kept his confidence in himself because all he's ever had is himself in the long run. the fact that he's told jesse twice how hard it is for him to express his emotions and how people don't really route for him, he knew he had to stick to himself because no one else would. so it makes perfect sense as to why the people he thought would route for him suddenly start shitting on him and it tears him apart. he thought he wouldn't have to be alone anymore. but what do you know. fuck the order, honestly. 💀 so yes, he has greasy hair! in season one, anyway. in season two it is nice and fresh and brushed and beautiful and luscious!!

i am coming back for a moment with some insight about another reason why i hate season 2 ivor.
they made him oblivious to some potion-crafting must-knows. the biggest being this one:
youtube
first of all, it's ooc because ivor offers up his last potions to jesse all the time in season 1. up in sky city and in crown mesa. so to hear him keep them and be so selfish is very disappointing.
but primarily, the fact that he doesn't know these potions are long lasting boggles my mind. he is the best brewer in the world. THE WORLD. and he wouldn't know how to make them long lasting? 💀 be so ffr rn.
if you put redstone in a potion, it makes them last 8 minutes. a minecraft day is 10 minutes long. that means these potions, if used with redstone, would last 8-12 hours.
there is no way in hell ivor wouldn't know how to make a potion last that long. not if he is a successful brewer.

going a little more in depth with the illagers, i think ivor would have a general negative opinion on them. he knows they go around hurting people just because it's in their culture to, and he wouldn't exactly find that the most pleasant or benevolent thing to do. not to mention he is typically a more judgmental person than most. considering his comments he made on the witches, and considering how quick he is to change opinions about people depending on what they do, i.e. the whole entire plot of the game because they all lied.
i also believe his mentor gave him this flaw. 💀

Considering Minecraft Dungeons, the vast majority of artifacts and magic weapons work on souls! Like actual souls gathered from slain enemies.
It is hinted that Illager magic probably also vastly rely on souls, especially since they work with spirits (vexes) and try to find a way to inmortality (totem of undying)
Would Ivor really mingle with the undead, the nether soulvalleys and such? Souls souls souls
Meanwhile tool/weapon/armour Enchantments do work with lapis lazuli and- Experience! In case of the player anyway.
Do you have any headcanons what Experience entails? I've heard theories from being literally experience as wisdom or experience as in life force (considering skulk can save exp from things that died and fallen foes also give exp, yet sinole things like growing/harvesting crops also give exp) Upon death we lose all exp even.
ANONYMOUS SENT AN ASK .
i want to start with experience. in minecraft story mode, i don't really think that applies. i do believe it can take energy away from you, making you exhausted and tired, but i don't think it necessarily takes wisdom or life away. otherwise i think ivor would only use it in extremely serious circumstances. and he doesn't. he does it all the time.
though in my personal headcanons i do believe that it steals your lifeforce. kinda how like there's "energy" everywhere in people who believe in spirituality. positive and negative energy, energy vampires and all that. i have a hunch that that energy is used as mana, as is similar to the magicks in real life. the ones pagan and wicca use and practice.
but to move forward with whether or not ivor would, i most certainly think he would, with exceptions. i believe that once ivor learned he must go to the nether to actually be a brewer, he knew he had to do perilous things to achieve his dreams. he accepted that fact rather fast, considering he much enjoys going on journeys and learning new things. ivor has this insatiable desire just to know stuff. and the lengths he would go to test the limits of these and create something new are rather extensible.
though i don't think he would kill anyone directly to get the souls, i do believe he would try to steal someone's soul before it is "passed on," so to speak. ensnare it and keep it so that he can utilize it and study it. i mean, considering the wither also needs souls to be crafted, it's clear he would already mingle with that sort of stuff to prove a point and show the world the truth. and that was just cause he was pissed off. he gets even more excited when things are sincere. when things are done on his own terms. to expand his source for knowledge, he would do almost anything.
i also get the vibe that the illager magic is a very closed practice. sort of how like voodoo, tribal, and brujeria are closed to the general public because of race. you can only do it if you have been invited in. i can see ivor either wanting to get captured by illagers to sneak into their labs/libraries to learn all about it. or, if given the chance, coerce an illager into inviting him in so he can learn all about it.
i can see ivor being respectful and disrespectful. it all depends on how it's played out. how the story he's having is going. ivor is a very much go with the flow sort of guy, until it comes to things he's passionate about. and this situation is definitely a mix of the two.

META 001 : > does anyone else notice how ivor's eyes change?
SEASON 1 :
SEASON 2 :
TL ; DR --
season 1 ivor has BIG ASS BAGS! season 2 ivor has a much more bright vibe to him. if gabriel tells the world about the true nature of the order, ivor finally changes and can let out his rage! he doesn't have to be exhausted anymore! he realizes he can let out his emotions and be happy while also being the best brewer ever! he's no longer tired.
FULL META UNDER THE CUT .
they appear lighter in season 2. not as dark. not as baggy. i'm sure in season 1 he was so tired and exhausted from all the stress the order gave him. the fact that he believed he could trust them, that he could be himself around them, and then having everyone turn around and break his trust like that is horrible.
i had a talk with @ellegaard about this -- considering ivor's past, i'm sure ellegaard and the other members have heard about ivor and his outstanding brewing ability. what with him being the best brewer in the world. but because of his backstory with his mentor and the chaos that ensued from that, i believe soren would have been afraid of ivor and his abilities. i'm sure he would have fed the order a lot of his own personal agenda about what to feel about ivor, and to be scared of him.
the way i told ellegaard's mun:
of course when ivor began his role in the order he was helpful. he made them enchanted armor, potions, everything of the sort to help them through all their adventures. but because of the past he has and because of soren being so scared of him and shoving that agenda onto others, they reacted with anger. and anger is always a secondary emotion, usually to fear.
ivor can get very, very vengeful. though the backstory is just my personal headcanon ( whether you take that or not as your way of seeing ivor is up to you ) , if you include it that is one time he's been vengeful. canonically, the wither storm is proof enough that he can be an extremely vengeful person. i'm sure that when he would get upset at the members after realizing what soren was doing, it was more so with revenge than it was healthy communication.
especially after everyone started saying he was evil, that they expected him to do awful things, and that he wants nothing but to hurt them. he never wanted to. that's why he stepped in when magnus/ellegaard dies. because he never actually wanted to hurt any of them. he was just so exhausted of how he was being treated. no trust at all because of his history, and then lying to him this whole time about being a hero. when really it was all a fraud.
a huge part of the reason ivor wants to be a real hero is also in my backstory. again, whether you take it as your own canon or not is up to you but i'll explain it a bit here. his mentor forced him to do things he really wasn't up to doing. killing creatures for their magic, pushing away empathy for others, stealing and thieving and the like. his mentor taught him how to be a machine that has no emotions so that he could focus on nothing but potion making. ivor never wanted to be someone like that. so the idea of being a true hero is astounding. only to have that taken away is absolutely heartbreaking. of course he would be upset. of course he would be stressed!
but then in comes jesse and the new order. they don't let his history hold him back. except petra, but petra's a young woman and ivor knows he fucked her over. he dealt with a whole lot of emotions that he hadn't settled before. especially with his mentor telling him that emotions aren't exactly something to accept. anger and exhaustion make someone do regrettable things.
the new order don't judge him. they enjoy his excitement, his knowledge. and this time, they can be real heroes! he doesn't have to hold back or anything! and it feels amazing to finally let his true self free. and he can finally have people to let his intelligence rub off on. he wants to teach any of the members his brewing, his knowledge, his wisdom.
and depending on whether gabriel lets the truth out or not depends on the true change to happen. if he doesn't, ivor doesn't really change. he doesn't let out that rage. he doesn't feel any different. sure, jesse and the others help him feel like himself, but they've all moved on and have done their own thing. he is left alone again, selling enchantments, potions, and advice like he was before the order. back to stage one.
but let's just say gabriel admits the truth. ivor can finally be free. he feels like a huge weight has been lifted off his shoulders. the rage is gone. he doesn't have to be exhausted. he finally learns that he can be a true hero, show empathy, be happy, and let his emotions out all while being the best brewer the world has ever seen. he doesn't have to hold anything back. the shadow the mentor has cast over him is finally gone and he can live freely now, without the worry of being less than.
ivor can rest assured that he can be himself. and it was all thanks to jesse and the new order.
finally, this old man can get some much needed psychological rest.

What would you describe your time period to be for the Minecraft world Ivor lives in? If you take away mods, the world only has very limited technologies beside redstone contraptions and constructs. Modern seems to be out of place, except player/human made builds that may reference or mimic proper technology, or something completely new in technology based on redstone. The world seems rather medieval in the games, small villages all around the place, feral (even if docile/neutral) animals/mobs mostly hostile everywhere, raids, nature all around. Uh. Magic! Undead! Potions! Literal Hell! (nether)
Let's forget the dimensional portals for a sec. I just wanna hear your headcanons/opinions for a sec. Just the "base world".
ANONYMOUS SENT AN ASK .
it's a very interesting point because you are correct. unless there is redstone involved, there isn't much that can be done that involves any sort of modern technology. especially if you take away the portals that can take you anywhere. and even if you do include them, they don't really use anything modern to be built. they still use things that can be considered magic to have the traveling actually work. but i don't necessarily think it's entirely medieval. because look at the clothes people wear. yes, most of it could be considered old-timey but then you see people like stella who wear a literal modern suit and a fucking microphone in her ear, and ivor who has extremely modern undergarments. literally a wife beater tanktop and striped boxers. also lukas and the ocelots or adrian and the blaze rods. they have modern clothing as well. reuben's clothes are modern too; t-shirt and shorts. so it's obvious that somewhere along the line, something more modern had to have been constructed for their culture's sake. also the implications of stella and her ear microphone sort of make me wonder if they have more technologically advanced stuff than just that. with ellegaard getting better and better at redstone and the involvement with harper i'm sure that technology boomed after ivor brought her to his world. so in a way, i would say it's almost retrofuturistic. except instead of retro it's medieval. and the futuristic is very... up in the air. 💀

Too bad vexes dont last in the overworld. The evoker literally just summons them, and once there's nothing to attack, they just idly float about and just die after a minute or so. Vexes aren't meant to last. Literally just mean spirited... well... spirits that are there to attack but too unstable to last long.
Evokers are already such a high ranking illager for their powers, you think Ivor would even be able to garner more skill or knowledge than the native users? Could he figure out how to stabilise vexes? Or summon jaws just like them?
ANONYMOUS SENT AN ASK .
oh i absolutely think he could if he put his mind to it. he had the power to harness the command block into a book, i'm sure he can learn how to do the magic the illagers use. and he wants to learn it so much it hurts. it's one of his biggest projects, no matter what part of the timeline it is. of course, if it was post season 2 and gabriel admits the truth, he would be much more calm, gentle, and respectful about the illagers and their magic and beliefs and want to garner it in a much healthier, happier, and positive way.
but in any other case he would do whatever it meant to get that knowledge. there is nothing better than learning to him. and i'm sure that since soren could create blocks that didn't exist, ivor could do magic that doesn't necessarily exist. stabilizing vexes being one of them.
never underestimate what ivor could do. he is pretty tenacious, and his intelligence knows no bounds. when he gets excited and passionate, he shows it not only in his body language but his actions. remember, he wanted to find the eversource to use it for himself. he would do the same with illager magic and whatever it is that gets them to do it.
