Megumi wasn’t one to worry or panic that commonly. At least, not in front of you he didn’t. He was naturally good at keeping his composure, you know? Of course though, he had a weak spot. Everyone does. His happened to be his friends.

Actually, scratch that.

His was you.

So naturally, when you managed to get injured by a curse on one of your guys’s missions, he panicked—And he panicked hard.

You didn’t even get hurt that bad—it was just a slightly deep-ish gash on your shoulder. Shoko patched you up well, anyways. Did that manage to ease his worry?

Fuck no.

The mere sight of the crimson liquid tainting your porcelain skin was enough to have him terrified. if you had moved even an inch away from where you were standing, that would’ve pierced through your head.

The days following, you felt as if he was becoming more…protective of you. Or maybe affectionate? He was just always nearby you in some way, and would be doing the smallest little tasks for you, insisting that you should let him. It was a bit strange, really.

At one point, he even carried you to the car so that you wouldn’t have to walk

Eventually, you decided to ask him about it while you two were cuddling one night, and you noticed his hand lingering nearby your previously injured shoulder.

“Hey..Gumi..?” You whispered to him, your head resting on his chest.

“..Did you need something, y/n?..”

You hesitated for a moment, not really knowing how to word what you would tell him.

“..I-…why..have you been acting a bit..different lately..?”

He paused for a moment, his other hand ceasing its action in stroking your hair.

“..What..?”

“You’ve been acting different..since i’ve gotten hurt…Though im not complaining or upset, it’s just..different..why is that..?”

“..I just..- its-..” he paused, collecting his thoughts, before mumbling quietly. “i don’t want you getting hurt…not again..”

Your expression softened, and you pulled away slightly to cup his face.

“..Gumi…no, its—i’ll be fine, i promise you that..I’m so sorry I made you worry..”

You pulled him back into your embrace, having his face rest in the nape of your neck as you gently caressed his back.

“..y/n..?” He started, his voice slightly muffled by your skin

“Yeah, Gumi..?”

“..Promise me..that you won’t get hurt again…that you’ll—you’re gonna be safer..you could’ve died, and it was terrifying…I know you’re an extremely capable sorcerer, but please..”

You smiled softly, holding him just a little tighter than before, but not painfully. “..I promise, Gumi..”

You felt him finally relax, sighing quietly and pulling himself closer into you. That night, you both managed to sleep much more peacefully than normal, in each other’s arms.

OUAT rewatch: 1x21 - An Apple Red As Blood

This exchange always confused me.

I kind of loved the over-acting from everyone here. lol

Thank God when this situation actually arises, Henry's one of the first in line to protect Regina. Cause this is painful as hell!

She knew immediately that Henry was gone. Was it her motherly senses tingling or was it just her fear that he's gonna leave her any second of any day? Either way I'm crying.

Can we talk about how Henry doesn't just set up a blanket to make it look like he's sleeping. He sets up a blanket to make it look like he fell asleep reading comic books past his bed time with his little flashlight under his blanket. Because he knows Regina knows he does and let's him do it anyway.

But oh sure, Regina's just a strict parent with no connection to her child.

HENRY! Goodness you’re just as reckless with your life as your mother!

Henry: Please! Please, don’t make me go! We can’t go! Everything’s here… Me, your parents, your family. Please, Emma. They need you. Your family needs you.

Does the entire kingdom know by this point that David and the king were lying? Cause a public execution of your own son seems unwise if not.

Regina saving David's life. Is this payback for him saving her before he got captured? Aww these two.

Regina: My tree is dying. Why? Rumplestiltskin: Perhaps, it’s your fertilizer.

That little smirk. He's such a shit but I love it.

Rumplestiltskin: The curse was meant to take away Snow White and Prince Charming’s happiness. Perhaps, you giving up Henry is just the price to keep the curse unbroken. Regina: I think I’d rather just get rid of her.

He's got a point. Of course the important point here is that she doesn't care about anything but Henry.

And I love that the twist ends up being, instead of her giving up Henry to save the curse, her giving up her curse to save Henry.

Him leaving her to deal with the repercussions...Again, how is this not a broken deal?

Regina: I’ll give you anything. 

I love seeing Regina’s tough exterior falter here.

Mary Margaret: So, you don’t want people to rely on you, but you took your son? Now, that sounds like a stable home for him. What the hell is wrong with you?

There’s something funny about the image of Charming freaking out over Regina revealing... an apple. We know it’s poisoned but he doesn’t so it ends up looking like Charming’s just like “*gasp* An apple?! YOU MONSTER!”

...which in retrospect, you may appreciate later, Charming, when you find out who Snow ends up shacking up with.

Lana face appreciation moment.

This is here for no other reason than because I love the aesthetic of these two in this setting sharing scenes like this.

Regina: Back to our land. Where there’s a solution to a very delicate problem I have… How to get rid of the one person who could break my curse. Jefferson: Emma. And why shouldn’t I let her do just that? End the madness and go home. Regina: To your hovel? Selling fungus at the fair? Why? When you could just stay here in the mansion I gave you?

I can't believe this line still works on him after everything. A life “wanting for nothing” has only lead to him losing everything.

Regina: My problem, Jefferson, is the same as yours. It’s family.

Another moment of appreciation for Lana’s acting. The underlying pain on Regina’s face throughout this entire scene. The teary eyes, shaky voice, the panic she’s trying to mask-- it’s clear she’s unraveling slowly and coming apart at the seams.

This must have been so satisfying for Henry. And Jared was great here. His mix of fascination with sympathy was really well played.

Let me just ask you a question – with this war raging on, who really is getting hurt here? Emma: I know. Henry. But isn’t it a good thing that he’s spending time with me? I’m his mother. Archie: Yes, you are. And so is Regina. And l-look, the court is going to come in and look at him and see how he’s been since you’ve come into his life. Emma: And he’s been happier, right? Archie: Maybe. I mean, objectively? He’s skipped school, he’s stolen a credit card, he’s run off, he’s… He’s endangered himself, repeatedly. And so, in the eyes of the law, it’s not so-

Emma: Do you think that she would ever hurt him? Archie: NO. Never! I mean, everyone else, but not him.

Archie: Look, right or wrong, her actions have all been defensive. I’m not judging, but… In many ways, your arrival has woken a sleeping dragon.

People want to use Archie and his therapy as a weapon against Regina being Henry's mother, and yet ignore everything he's ever said about Regina and her situation with Henry.

Regina: I just had to stop you. I have no interest in cleaning tongue marks off my mirror.

I can’t even tell you guys how hard I laughed at this line the first time I watched this episode.

Regina giving up her last piece of Daniel for Henry. And to think, people still doubted that she loved him by this point.

So was Regina’s original plan to just go back in time and get a sleeping curse? Because if she’s capable of that, it seems like she’d be more than capable of going back and doing other things.

Regina: Do you remember when I ran down your runaway horse, Snow? Do you remember when I saved your life? Snow: Of course.

I love the way Ginny delivers this little line. You can still hear the childlike adoration in her voice.

Snow: Is that… Regina: A grave. Daniel’s grave. Snow: Daniel? I thought… Regina: He ran away? I told you that to spare your feelings out of…kindness.

I really wonder what Snow thought she did to Regina if she didn't know about Daniel. She’s admitted multiple times this season that she’s responsible for Regina’s unhappiness. Was it about Regina’s marriage to her father? And if so, was she aware of her fathers treatment of Regina?

Regina: What you did. You promised to keep my secret. You promised, but you lied. Snow: I was very young, and your mother- Regina: She ripped his heart out because of you. Because you couldn’t listen to me.

I love how childlike Regina sounds here. Like a young girl fighting with her little sister.

Which is actually a great reminder that, just as Snow was a child making an innocent mistake, Regina was also a child dealing with the consequences of it. Regina blaming Snow wasn’t the right thing to do, but if Snow can be allowed the excuse of being too young to understand the consequences of her actions (which she should be allowed because she was just a child!), Regina should also be allowed that same excuse for handling the ramifications poorly (BECAUSE SHE WAS ALSO JUST A CHILD).

They were both stuck between their own awful parents and far too young to be able to handle what resulted of it.

Regina: It won’t kill you. No, what it will do is far worse. Your body will be your tomb, and you’ll be in there with nothing but dreams formed of your own regrets.

I love Regina being aware of how conveniently timed Emma's visit was.

Emma: This… What we’re doing is a problem, and I’m going to go, but I have conditions. I still get to see Henry. I get to visit and spend time, whatever.

This wasn't a bad deal Regina.

Regina: But he’s my son.

I think this line says everything we need to know about Regina’s head space. She’s desperate to have it acknowledged that her own child is actually her child because she's spent so much time having to fight for people to remember that little fact.

Which makes me wonder if Regina would have changed her mind here if Emma had answered this in a way that actually convinced Regina she wasn’t going to spend the next 10 years fighting Emma for that respect as Henry’s parent. Was putting Emma under a sleeping curse the right thing to do? No. But I also kind of don’t blame Regina for choosing the route that gets rid of the constant custody battle and disrespect that she’s gotten over whether she’s actually the mother to the child she single parent raised for 10 years.

Red: She sacrificed herself… For true love.

Regina: It would appear sacrifice is overrated.

Rumplestiltskin: A sleeping curse. Might I ask how you managed to obtain one here in Storybrooke? Regina: By sacrificing the last bit of magic I had left.

I loved the connection between these three scenes and how much it shows the change in Regina’s mindset from Evil Queen to a mother with a child she loves.

This was a good move on Emma's part and I'm super proud of her for making this decision. For seeing things objectively from Archie’s perspective and trying to do the right thing against what she wanted.

Emma: This is how it has to be right now. I made a deal, and I used my superpower. She’s telling the truth. She’s going to take really good care of you. Henry: Yes, but she wants you dead.

There’s no doubt from either of them that Regina will take care of Henry, and I do love that that’s acknowledged

...even if Regina is also royally fucking up here.

Henry: You’re the only one that can stop her. Emma: Stop her from what? All she’s ever done is fight for you.

I fucking love this line. And that when you look back through the season you can see how true that is. And that this builds into the finale where the second it becomes a choice between Henry and the curse, she chooses Henry.

Emma: See? You want to have some ice cream with that? And then we can go back to talking about…

Sasuke didn’t understand. He knew that you were a capable shinobi, hell, if his pride allowed it, he would even say that you were better than him.

So why did he feel this need to protect you?

After team seven’s latest mission against a particularly strong opponent, you had managed to be rendered unconscious after a deep cut to your waist, already being previously vulnerable by exhaustion caused by other enemies.

Your injury led you to get put into the hospital for a few days, which is something that, I kid you not, has never happened to someone as strong as you.

Sasuke convinced himself that was the reason for his panic. It was just..unexpected, that's all. Nothing else. Why would he worry for someone, anyways?

But he just couldn’t beat that gut feeling of needing to protect you.

Not so surprisingly, you were eager to be discharged from the hospital and continue to train. You can’t fall behind, that’s not even an option for you. Sasuke respected that, of course. He would’ve done the same, after all.

However, the sight of you struggling to even stand on your own—that shook him in a way far more severely than he should’ve.

“..Hey- uh..take it easy, (y/n)..”

You raised an eyebrow, the slightest smirk on your normally monotone expression—Now that was not normal of him to do.

“You should watch your tone, Sasuke. If I didn't know any better, I would think you were worried about me.”

“Wha- no, i’m not worried!” He stammered, feigning nonchalance. “You’ll just…drag the team behind if you’re injured. You’ll never heal if you keep working like that”

“..Ah..sure..” You remarked sarcastically

After that little interaction with Sasuke, one that should’ve made him calmer, it made him just feel even more scared. The way you struggled to even stand without wobbling—it seemed wrong for someone as strong as you.

With this sense of dread growing in him for your safety, he knew he should do something. (for him of course totally not out of worry for your well being or anything)

So what better than to just be a bodyguard for you and follow you around?

And so he did. Even though it was a bit weird at first, it was also funny to see the ever-prodigy so protective. No matter how much he tried to hide it, you could always tell what he was thinking.

“I'm not worried! it's so that you heal quicker and stop burdening the team.” (no it wasn’t)

“You’ll probably just end up working yourself to the bone and get worse, and you’ll bring us all down, I'm not worried.”

“I was just told by…Kakashi sensei to watch you, I'm not worried, he is.”

It was funny, actually. He was in a world of denial, but it’s Sasuke, what did you expect?

Of course, you wouldn’t be injured for too long, but you still found it odd that he continued to follow you around even after you became more mobile. So, one day, you decided to ask him.

“Hey, Sasuke?”

He turned to you, hands in his pockets as he turned to face you.

“What do you want?”

“Why do you still follow me around? I’m perfectly capable of doing these things myself now, y’know.”

He just about stopped in his tracks.

“I- uh..We just can’t have you getting hurt again and drag us all behind. Knowing how clumsy and weak you are, it’s probably gonna happen again.”

“Ah..alright then.”

He turned away embarrassed, and you subtly smirked. What he truly meant to say was ‘I was extremely worried about you being hospitalized, and I would rather die than witness that again’.

But you didn’t need to tell him that.

Being a teenager is hard shit. Being one with countless expectations placed on you is harder. You had to be the best at everything given to you—whether it’s education, extracurriculars, anything that you did.

Right now, you had a research paper due for biology, a song to practice for your (instrument) class, two pages of statistics homework, a writing assignment for english, and it was fucking hell.

As you sit at your desk, staring at all of the work, you could feel your hands begin to tremble and breathing quicken the ever slightest bit.

For the first time in a bit—you were scared.

How would you get all of this done? It’s all due soon, and if it’s not all perfect then your grade is going to be affected, and every detail must be paid attention to, but there’s no time to do that, and all of a sudden you’re all pathetic and panicking, and crying, and-

“Hey.”

—an arm on your shoulder. Upon realizing that someone is in fact there and saw you like this, you wipe your tears almost on instinct, composing yourself enough to turn and see who it was. It was Megumi. How pathetic! Your boyfriend had to see you like this and now he probably hates you for it-

“I need you to calm down, yeah? just breathe, follow my breathing, it's alright..”

Megumi was never good at these kinds of things. But for you? Oh, he would learn to recite 6.19k digits of pi backwards for you if it made you happy. He may not admit it, but he is so smitten with you, and so you being in this state is not okay.

Your thoughts were racing right now. Why is he not upset? Why is he helping you? Why is he not mad?

“I-“ You stammered, your words stuck in your throat.

“No.” He chided, his tone firm yet soft.

Megumi kneeled in front of you, lightly grasping your hand with both of his and placing it on his cheek.

“Listen to me. You aren’t going to argue back, and you aren’t going to continue to panic like this. You are not in danger, and I will and always will be here. Just breathe, please..”

You took quick, shaky breaths as you tried to calm yourself, your trembling hands beginning to settle in his touch. With his free hand, he guided you to the floor with him, having you sit on his lap in his embrace as he stroked your hair.

He sat there with you for a while, waiting for his actions to mollify you. With your head buried in his chest, he glanced at the amount of work on the table— God, how much did they give you?

Once you had eventually managed to pull yourself together, you uttered the first things that came to mind.

“I-I’m sorry….It’s just- i have a lot to do right now, and I don’t know how I can finish it all, and it has to be-“

“That’s enough.”

Megumi silenced you, his hold on you tightening slightly.

“You’re doing it again—overthinking it.”

“..What..?”

“You’re overthinking this situation. Listen, you don’t have to over analyze all your work like you always do. Not everything has to be planned to a T. I can help you finish some of this, okay? Just rest for a bit—you look like you need it.”

You chuckled softly, a slight smile forming on your face.

“..Thank you, Megumi..”

After spending a bit of time resting with him, you both got to work and managed to finish in about three hours. You were certainly in a much better mood than when you began.
