            it wasn’t often that she felt so emotional, and actually, she was quite good at suppressing such feelings. it was always said that the emotions of vampires were much higher than those of humans, but she could not confirm this at the moment. being human meant for katherine that she couldn’t suppress those stupid emotions and that they kept bubbling up.

           maybe it was the fact that she wasn’t just emotional, but also scared; maybe it was too much. nevertheless, she tried not to have these emotional outbursts in front of others, and so far she has done well and could prevent it. today, however, stefan had found her and she quickly wiped the back of her hand over her eyes.

           katherine was surprised by his words, for she had not expected them. the brunette also quickly wiped her cheeks with the back of her hand before finally turning her gaze to Stefan.

           "if...if you want?" her eyebrows had furrowed together, suspecting that there might be other intentions behind it. her natural paranoia if you so will. it was not good to be so vulnerable, and yet she could use a hug.

             stefan did not have to think long about which examples he had to give for questions he wanted to have answered. it made her wonder how long he wanted to know these things. "i don't really have a favorite color. i like jewel-toned colors and colors that have a certain depth. i like purple and blue and green and red. not a fan of yellow when it comes to clothing and pastels are only beautiful in the sky." she wore pastels in 1864 because they were trend chic but it's not really her vibe. "i like palačinka which are similar to pancakes but i also have a liking for sweet cherries and strawberries. in general i have to admit that i like sweet things. my favorite season is probably the transition between spring and summer. it's already warm outside but nature is still so fresh and luscious. it's also when the birds sing the loudest."

             katherine never did hesitate to answer his questions even though she wasn't sure if those were the things stefan really wanted to know. the expression on her features turned soft after @soulessavicr told her that he once thought that he had a chance at marrying her. he often talked about wanting to be with her forever but she never considered that he also wished to officially marry her. that is something new, an insight into his thoughts. "when i was human, a long time ago, i wanted to marry, yes. i even wanted a handful of children." her head tilted slightly, a slight frown on her features as she recalled her naive, foolish dreams. "but i fear i'm not that woman anymore. marriage … seems like getting shackles. i don't know if it's really a concept for a vampire."

             she noticed his reaction regarding her nod to their activity last night and it's interesting. for many reasons. her gaze follows his hand that left her wrist and found a way to her chest. "i'm certain that's a view not many men share." most would prefer sexuality over actually getting to know the other person.

             katherine bit down on her bottom lips after stefan stated that he thought about turning her. contrary to him, she already knows the truth. "it won't work, stefan. vampire blood doesn't even manage to heal me. i throw it up after seconds..." she can't keep it down long enough which was awful. a fragile human being with no way of getting healed if something bad happens. which, if she's honest, is incredibly probable. "i don't think you want to switch places. i need to pee. do you know how bothersome long drives are if one needs to pee? but you also have to stay hydrated because otherwise, you'll get wrinkles. and don't even start with all the sicknesses one can get. it's awful." katherine wrinkled her nose to underline her words. if she could become a vampire again, she would choose that without wasting a second.

"no. nothing like what your... favorite color is, or your favorite food, your favorite season. i don't know any of that kind of stuff about you. or even if you.... wanted to get married. because see... at the time, i would've thought i had a chance at marrying you. but now from the little i do know about you, i would assume you're not the marrying type. or are you? am i wrong or am i right. which is what i'm saying... i don't know you well enough to know the answer already." he chuckles, making a lighthearted joke out of it as emeralds perk up with a little happiness at the amusement of the way he lightly teases her. "yeah," another chuckle, this time a sheepish one. dare he say a shy one. "yeah i do." he agrees, smittenly. "but.." fingers uncurl from around her wrist, lifting his hand to tap her heart, "here is where is most important to me." meaning, sexual arousal isn't what comes to mind about knowing about her first.

"okay, i will." there's so many things he wants to ask, but a lot of those things... now that he has permission... make him halt on blurting anything out. things he wants to ask are things he'd have to ease into in fear of upsetting her. "i did almost think about that, but i immediately thought of what could go wrong because it seems too easy." definitely feels like something would go wrong and he's scared of that risk. "if i could take your place, i would. or just join you." something tells him he'd enjoy it a lot more, though. and it's not something he elaborates on... but he knows he certainly would love to be human again. @survivingpierce

       "i think this is a bad exchange. it would require trust and you wanted to drown me. so how am i expected to trust you?" katherine was suspicious about this whole deal he had proposed.

       "besides, it would involve allowing you to suck me dry, who guarantees me that i even survive this first step? because as far as i'm aware, humans usually don't wake up after they are completely drained." she couldn't even steal the damn gilbert ring to ensure her survival because she was still a doppelgänger, it won't work for her.

       "could you please loosen your grip? i'm human now, you're bruising me!" katherine hissed and tried to tear her arm away – to no avail – as she got dragged along with the blonde. "where are you even taking me?"

          "look, it's kinda my first day here–" at least katherine's first day here, apparently elena already had contact with this guy. is this going to sound weird? "– and caroline said you're a nice one and kinda grew up on this campus, so i was wondering if you could show me around? i'd be especially interested in the possibilities where to eat." and thanks to elena's wonderful meal card that shouldn't be any issue at all. which is pathetic if she's honest.

          "could you spare a few minutes?"

          katherine only shrugged and turned her attention back to the meal that she had intended to enjoy. well, she could have enjoyed it but now that she knows that her end is near, it's more like a final meal. her lifetime is now limited, she didn't want to waste the last bit she had with running. besides, she cannot outrun someone immortal so there's really no real choice.

          "even if i should believe you, what are you hoping for? i don’t know you, after all." which is strange because why did he know her?

          the mention of klaus made her blood briefly run cold before she continued her meal completely unbothered. at least unbothered to her counterpart. of course, all sorts of questions had set in motion in her head. who what that person? why did he know her? why did he know klaus? why would he warn her?

          “well. thank you for interrupting my meal but i really have no idea what you’re talking about,” denying everything is something the better method. who tells her that he isn’t one of klaus’ minions who only suspects that she’s katherine and was looking for confirmation before he goes running back and reporting?

        “if i believed that then i would believe anything.”  despite coming across as indifferent,  he knew what his brother’s name meant to some people and he was no stranger to her story.  but on the other hand,  if he was her then he would have been out the door already,  henrik believed that she was much stronger than him in that regard.

       “i’ve known them…that whole family since i was a child,  and believe me,  he won’t give up.”  he holds on tight to his coffee when it arrives,   he still liked to pretend that he was human,  he missed it.  “you’ll have a day or two at most…if you decide you know what i’m talking about.”

              "is that something you really want and regret or something you say out of pity because i don’t have eternity left?" because unfortunately, katherine wasn't sure what the truth was. stefan always had a big heart, these words could have been spoken out of pity, and because he knew he didn't have to follow through with them.

the receiver has told the sender that they haven’t slept for several days due to intense nightmares, and asks them to stay the night so that they might be able to sleep. send in “ i stayed. ” for the receiver to waken the next morning and find the sender to still be sitting by their bedside, having stayed the whole night to ensure they slept.

       there was an interesting, albeit frightening, thing that did develop after becoming human. her mental balance, her carefully built wall of strength, seemed to crumble, seemed to get weak points. things and memories she had suppressed a long time ago bubbled up again at night and manifested in very realistic nightmares. this, combined with her exaggerated paranoia since she was cured (and let's not forget her bad mental health), was a toxic mixture that went to her substance up to the point katherine refused to sleep. a health-endangering undertaking because humans needed sleep.

       she was so sleep-deprived that she mixed up dreams with reality and sometimes suffered from microsleep. probably the situation that accidentally caused her to express a wish that would never have come across her lips in a normal state.

       the next time her eyes (consciously) flattered open and her gaze slowly focused, she was surprised to find that she was lying in a large bed and tristan was sitting by the bedside, telling her that he stayed the entire night.

       she frowned before rubbing her eyes, realizing that she was feeling better for the first time in a long time. somehow more … energetic. but she should not be distracted by the actual topic.

       tristan had stayed, though he was already more than generous, he had taken her in and looked after her. a shelter where she could trust that she was not tortured to death, or strangled to death in her sleep.

       "i – " what did she ask him to do? that he stayed with her because she couldn’t sleep? how embarrassing. geez, keep yourself together. but despite the embarrassment and the light blush on her cheeks, the brunette straightened her back slightly (and ignored the quiet crack of her bones).

       "thank you. i hope you didn't feel obligated to stay. you really didn't have to do this."

         katherine narrowed her eyes because she definitely wasn't in the mood to be called out like that. yes, it would have been smart to act with more foresight. on the other hand, however, katherine hasn't expected that things will go downhill. "i have money. i have money and wealth in different forms. locked up in safes or in places i currently can't access anymore. did it ever occur to you that a vampire doesn't need money on hand if they can simply force you to do whatever you ask them to do? gosh, i miss compulsion." so no, she hasn't done it the wrong way. that's … silly. katherine doesn't say anything about liking the coffee. she knew she should be grateful although she's not really the coffee type. "you know that i officially don't even exist? how can you open a bank account for me if i don't have official documents?"

   he had to blink a few times, never mind the fact that it sounded like something he would say. “ I’m sorry.” head leaning to one side as his hand came up and started moving with with his words. “ you don’t have money? you’ve been around since banks were invented and you don’t…I don’t mean to tell you how to do the whole–you know–immortal thing. but…I think you’re doing it the wrong way.” his teeth bit into his lip, digging into his pocket to get some money for the coffee and handing it over. “ alright, so here’s what the rest of the day is looking like for me. I’m gonna finish this coffee, and you better like yours. and then I’m gonna go by the bank and open up a savings account. even if I only put a dollar in it. because, I don’t think I’ve ever been motivated enough to open one until now.”

          katherine slipped onto the free spot in the suggested diner, her 'date' already waiting. without paying tristan any attention, she first picked up the menu and scanned over the offered drinks and foods. only then, her brown eyes settled on the one who again knew too much for her taste.

          "i'm not pleased to see that your little birds apparently swarm around me", she stated without any word of a greeting. in all honesty, katherine is pissed that there are apparently spies watching her which is why she doesn't grant him any courtesies because she's sure they are his spies. where else would tristan have gotten this information?

          "i already have a partner in crime when it comes to the delicate matter you probably want to speak with me about, so i don't see why you want to meet."

      "it's surprising how elijah got to have actual manners…" given that heritage? mikael is just as horrible as klaus. "anyway, i'm no longer a vampire and i remember clearly that you don't feed on humans." a painful lesson. "i am no longer bound to klaus' life and need him to be gone, so what do you need to achieve this?"

       "but 'liney....." somehow katherine swallowed the first two syllables of caroline's name, although she didn't really notice it. apparently, that devilish liqueur really kicked in. katherine giggled, her eyebrows raising. "you were talking about klaus and that twisted thingy you have." she shot the blonde a grin, not really realizing what she had just done. and who she just called after she managed to guess caroline's pin and found klaus’ contact. "communication is the key. i was doing you a favor. so you two can continue canoodling," she winked. "and it's not nice to just hang up."

“They hurt you, didn’t they?”

          "i...." katherine was tempted to say something sassy or come up with a lie to dispel his suspicion. of course elijah has noticed her different behavior, despite her best efforts to hide it. he knew her better than anyone and he had the comparison of how she was when she was still a vampire and how she's now after she had been cured. she had changed before he managed to find her. she didn't like to be touched at certain spots, mostly her neck which was covered by that awful bite-scar that she kept hidden under tons of makeup and her curls. it hadn't healed completely after damon fed her to silas and she just didn't want elijah to see it, although it was the only remaining visible evidence of the violence she endured over the summer. she cheated death many times in the last couple of months.

          katherine gulped, her eyes focusing on some spot on the ground. "it had been a rough summer", she explained absently, not wanting to earn any pity nor wanting to admit that he was right in his statement: she had been hurt. physically and mentally. but she managed to make it somehow. the brunette finally raised her gaze and rested it on elijah.

          "i love you, elijah," she's not the type of woman who often says these words and mean it but she does when it comes to him. "i'm incredibly grateful that you found me."
